Abelas raised an eyebrow at Karme's protests, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. "Smart, huh? Sounds more like an excuse to me, Trouty Mouth. But that's okay, not everyone is cut out for the front lines. Some people are just better at... watching Icarus for me :3" He knew that Karme had insecurities, which made sense because he looked like a strong wind would give him pneumonia and die. Mortals were so sad and pathetic, but at least Karme was fun and fish-like.
He patted Icarus affectionately on the side, earning a soft hoot from the creature. "Besides, Icarus here is a vital part of our team. He needs someone to look after him, to make sure he's comfortable and safe. And who better than the captain of the Athena's Hand?" Abelas leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with vibrant eyes, he laughed, straightening up and looking around the ship. "It's okay Fancy, you can leave the combat to brave warriors like me. I'll protect you." He clasped that massive mouth between his palms and smiled further, "And when we're done here and everyone down there is dead," the humans were supposed to be alive but he was none too worried about that, "we can go see that dragon together." Abelas blushed at that last comment.
Karme supposed it was his own fault for not delivering a schedule to Abelas. He couldn't play dragon with the elvhen whenever the other wanted, especially not in the heat of a battle.
"Abelas!" Karme whined when Icarus and Abelas got inside and finally stopped threatening his ability to cover. "I'm not a coward, not really. I'm trying to be smart here. I don't want to get in the way..." He also didn't want word to get back to his grandmama about how during a siege Karme essentially let the Athena's Hand become a floating daycare without any pushback. "I'm an Olympian too, you know. And keeping out of the fray so stronger witches can do their thing is important work. I mean, not everyone has to have a stomach for war, right? I'm not running this time," Karme continues to protest, knowing that the only reason he isn't fleeing is because he's afraid of being yelled at.
