Sanctuary The Karlapat Sanctuary is a sanctuary in the Kalahandi district of Odisha. Tourists come from all over India to enjoy the natural beauty of this tourist destination. The district headquarters of Kalahandi is 35 km from Bhawanipatna.
Transportation and accommodation facilities-- October to May is the best time to visit Karlapat. It is possible to reach Bhawanipatna by rail and highway. There is also a passenger lounge called Raipi. There are also hotels and government guesthouses in Bhawanipatna for overnight stays. The sanctuary also has a guesthouse. There is also the option to book a night out in advance. Nightlife is also available.
Animals and forests-- The sanctuary covers an area of ​​255 square kilometers. The eastern part of the eastern plateau is inhabited by dense forests. Firewood is also abundant in the forest, with the consent of various valuable trees. Its forests are home to tigers, leopards, deer, blue-tailed deer, and many other birds and reptiles.

Persons who have forcibly encroached the Gochar (cow-grazing) land at Chausathipada under Jenapur block of Jajpur district are being provided security by BJD’s Dharmasala MLA Pranab Kumar Balabantaray, alleged queen of Karlapat from Kalahandi district, Purnima Singh Deo Wednesday.Addressing a presser in Cuttack, Deo further alleged that the land grabbers have attacked a member of the royal family Debprasad Deb.“The goons of Pranab Balabantaray have encroached Gochar and government land and are carrying illegal activities on it. Debprasad had filed a case against it in the Orissa High Court aggrieved on which the legislator has launched a scathing attack on the former,” said Deo.Balabantaray has also influenced the police and witnesses in connection with the case, she added.On the other hand, Balabantaray has denied to comment on the allegations.The Odisha TV : 31st. Odisha, the land of Oriyas, was known as Kalinga in ancient days. After the death of Ashoka, Kalinga regained its independence. In the second century BC, it become a powerful country under kharavela. In the fourth century AD, Samudraguptainvaded Odisha. In 610 AD, Odisha came under the sway ofKing Sasanka. After Sasank’s death, Harsha conquered Odisha. Odisha had its own rulers(Ganga Dynasty) in the seventh century AD. In 795 AD, Mahasivagupta Yajati II came to the throne and with him began the most brilliant epoch in the history of Odisha. He united Kalinga, Kangoda, Utkal and Koshala in the imperial tradition of Kharavela. The CPI has called for a bandh on November 23 in three blocks of Kalahandi district protesting against Karlapat police encounter in which three local residents were killed.
In an audio tape, the secretary of Basadhara-Gumsara-Nagabali division of Maoist, Umakant stated that no exchange of fire from the rebels’ side during the encounter.
Police, in order to terrorize local residents, opened fire randomly in which the locals residents were killed, he alleged. He also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the families of the deceased.
Three villagers including a ward member were killed and two minor boys injured after being allegedly caught in a cross-fire between security forces and Maoists in the Karlapat forest in Kalahandi district on Sunday evening.
