where i watched it. the comfort of my own couch.

first thoughts, i liked it. i've always had an interest in the tudors and english history, so this was easy material to dive into. admitedly i've been more invested in anne bolyn and elizabeth than all the other women in henry viii's life. i knew little about catherine parr, and while i know some of this film has been fabricated, like the events surrounding the ending and henry's death, the liberties the director took make sense. however false i feel like the film told the story, it ended up being a reality i bought.

the costumes were everything. the attention to detail completely transported me into the 16th century. it even made me want to actually try on a corset.

my favourite fun fact about the film is during filming jude law chose to wear a scent that smelled of "blood, fecal matter, and sweat" to emmulate how henry viii would've smelled due to his rotting leg. i could physically see just how repulsed the actors were anytime they were in a scene with him.

i will say moments between henry and katherine were intense, and their chemistry was amazing. i believed the tension between them, the fear katherine had, and the percariousness of henry's temper.

that being said, there were elements that fell flat. the pacing of the film felt right, but at times there was no gravity or weight during certain scenes when it was obvious there was intent to do so. the 'world' felt small and i felt a lot of left out that could've made it seem much bigger. but one could argue that was intentional to show just how trapped and isolated katherine was as queen. she was cut off from the outside world, escorted everywhere by her ladies in waiting and the king's guard.

all in all, it was worth the watch. was it amazing, historical accuracy aside? not particularily. i also could've gone without seeing jude law's bare ass(just trust me on this one).
