I think the yandere in that game is pretty interesting. The game isn't long, and it's a finshed one as well.

Yup no worries, I have the game recommendation for that locked and loaded inside of my drafts. I'll probably release it this week. I will say I really liked the aesthetics of it and just the general story overall. Very well made and it had a good story as well.

300+ Follower and Holiday Event!!

Hello everyone!! It’s finally time to celebrate 300+ followers, with a little holiday twist! We’re gonna play a mystery game! Each word in this list represents a secret prompt. Only I know what the prompts are, but they cover a wide range. There’s quotes, questions, reactions, etc. All sorts of things which will be written into either a headcanon or a scenario (of varying length, I can’t promise they’ll all be super spectacularly long haha). All I need from you is 1 prompt word and 1 character! Taylor Swift Reunites With Katy Perry in Star-Studded, Pro-LGBT ‘Calm Down’ Video

Following the release on Thursday of her pro-LGBT song “You Need to Calm Down” and a surprise performance at New York’s gay landmark Stonewall Inn on Friday, Taylor Swifthas tripled down on her Pride Month activity this morning with the release of the video for “Calm Down.”

She promised in a social media post last week that “there’s a lot going on in the video” and she wasn’t kidding: The vibrantly colored, surreal video features her reunion with Katy Perry (with the two of them dressed as french fries and a hamburger) along with appearances from Ellen Degeneres, Ryan Reynolds, Dexter Mayfield, Laverne Cox, Karamu Brown, Rupaul, Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Justin Mikita, Bobby Berk, Tan France, Billy Porter, Adam Lambert, Todrick Hall, Hayley Kiyoko, Chester Lockhart, Adam Rippon and more.

The setting is a pastel-colored trailer park, with anti-LGBT protesters being faced down or ignored by the flamboyantly dressed stars; the clip culminates with a massive foot fight. And if Swift’s meaning weren’t already clear enough, it closes with the message: “Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally. Please sign my petition for Senate support of the Equality Act on change.org.

In the video, Ferguson, who hosted Swift’s Stonewall appearance on Friday,  is shown kissing a man in a mock-wedding ceremony.

The song’s lyrics make her intentions clear, Come verse 2, she’s getting socially conscious in a way that will surprise only anyone who slept through the celebrity news cycle in the first two days of Pride Month, “Why are you mad when you could be GLAAD?” she asks, echoing the last phrase for good measure. “Sunshine on the street at the parade / But you would rather be in the dark ages / Makin’ that sign must’ve taken all night.”

For anyone who wasn’t clear on her intentions from the mere acronyms of the previous verse, she gets more explicit with the “shade never made anybody less gay” line in the pre-chorus. A possible (probable?) Billy Porter mention comes up in a different iteration of the refrain: “Can you just not step on his gown?”

In a statement reacting to the song on Friday, Anthony Ramos, director of talent engagement at GLAAD, said: “Taylor Swift is one of the world’s biggest pop stars. The fact that she continues to use her platform and music to support the LGBTQ community and the Equality Act is a true sign of being an ally. ‘You Need to Calm Down’ is the perfect Pride anthem, and we’re thrilled to see Taylor standing with the LGBTQ community to promote inclusivity, equality, and acceptance this Pride month.”

There's nothing really risque in the answers (pretty tame overall), but putting it under a tag just in case!

Actala:

Sei: Panics. Tries to fumble on his clothes as the door is opening. By the time the door opens, his hair is still a mess, his pants are barely on, and his vest is buttoned incorrectly. He's standing in front of Shizu like he's trying to protect her from a Nightmare (her clothes are perfect).

Liam: The person tries to open the door to the office, but it's locked? That's strange; these doors shouldn't lock. The handle is also strangely cold. They jostle the knob a few more times before it comes loose. When the door opens, Liam's standing on the other side, completely composed. He complains about how old the building is - the doors really need to be replaced. Unbeknownst to the intruder, there are a few chunks of ice lying on the ground.

Rowan: Stands up, makes sure his pants are in order (he doesn't really care about the shirt), and then sidles over to the door, opening it before the person on the other side has a chance to. He tells the intruder that he's busy and to come back later (making sure to hide Shizu's presence from view).

Faye: When the person enters the room, they're surprised to find it empty. They could have sworn the Aegis and the Elder Mage were in here? Confused, the intruder leaves. Moments later, Faye undoes the illusion spell, relieved that the person didn't think to look too closely.

Hugh: As the person enters the room, they are hit by a wave of dizziness. When they come to their senses, they find Hugh and Shizu, sitting on opposite sides of the couch, sorting through papers. The papers are unnaturally orderly, and their clothes are pristine, with nary a wrinkle out of place. Their faces are a bit flushed, though. Maybe they got into an argument?

Karamu:

Raku: Continues his business without caring who's around. He has nothing to hide. (Nelli has a VERY different opinion.)

Kanau (Kinetic Novel)

Kanau is the prequel to Karamu and man is it as amazing as the first game, if not more so. I actually think I like this one better because of how it builds more from the first game and the fact that we get to essentially see the origin story for Raku as a yandere. There is one more game to this trilogy that is currently being made, so I can't wait to see it when it comes out. If you like this game, be sure to see more at @chattercap.

The story starts out with a college boy named Carter who is lost in the woods. While walking, he meets a young boy named Raku who promises to help him out of the woods. The two of them talk to each other for a bit, with Carter asking him why he's in the woods in the first place. Raku seems hesitant, but talks about how he wants to get away from his family, how his mother is especially harsh to him, how she favors his sister and how he really doesn't want to partake in the family traditions that he now has to accept. Carter listens and offers him advice on how he should set boundaries with his parents, even giving a story about how he would fight with his dad sometimes when he was Raku's age. He talks about how he has to pick up his 17 year old sister later and how he spent two months of his paycheck to get his dad something expensive. Raku seems to have a change of heart and tries to lead Carter elsewhere before being suddenly confronted by his mother. His mother expresses great disappointment in him, lamenting at the fact that he was trying to let his prey escape. Raku tries to set his boundaries as Carter had advised them, but to no avail. Raku attempts to protect Carter from his mother, but ultimately fails as she knocks Raku out and drags Carter back with them.

Upon waking up, Raku finds himself in the basement, with his mother watching him over a the dead body of Carter. His mother has prepared his meal, breaking open Carter's ribcage and takes out his liver for him to eat. Raku refuses despite how delicious looking it looks, still traumatized by the once alive Carter, dead on the floor. His mother talks about how she expected better of him, that she shouldn't have kept him alive if he would act like this. We learn that his family or species, I suppose, only really care about the females in the family, with them mating with a random human only to eat them if they need to reproduce. As such, males are generally killed after they are born. However, his mother states because she loved him so much, she kept him alive, even at the expense of having the other families shun her. When Raku continues to refuse, his mother basically rips out almost all of his monster spider arms and locks him in the basement, forcing him to eat before he can leave. Raku knows that if he eats he could very easily heal from his wounds, but when he tries, he vomits it back up after seeing Carter's face.

After a couple of days, Raku's little sister, Mayu tries to look for him in the basement. After hearing that his mother said he was being bad and not eating, she decides to bring some of the halloween candy that he got for her, despite their mother not wanting them to eat it as it's tainted by humans. She is able to sneak in and give him the candy, allowing him to at least restore his wounds. After she leaves, Raku is able to sneak out of the basement by turning into as spider and runs away from home. After a couple of days of running, he becomes so tired that he can only maintain his spider form. He ends up in someone's yard and almost gets killed by a cat, batted inside the house. There he meets a young girl named Nelli. Nelli is kind to him, noticing his missing legs and puts him in a jar to take care of him, giving him dead insects. For a while, Raku is taken care of by Nelli who watches his health every day and feeds him. Nelli also recounts how she used to have a cat, but was scared that her father might do something to her and ended up giving it away to a friend, and wished that in the future she could become a vet.

We get to know more about Nelli's home life, with her mother constantly at work and her father being a deadbeat. Nelli likes playing games, not only as a hobby but as a way to avoid dealing with her father. As time goes on, Raku notices that Nelli often seems less lively, with screaming and yelling becoming more of a constant in her household. She comes home crying one day and talks to Raku, about how she witnessed one of her friends and her dad's relationship and that she wished that she had parents like that, as neither of her parents came to the parent teacher conference. She later hides in the bathroom later to avoid her father who seems to be trying to find a reason to punish her, quietly playing her favorite game while Raku watches. Things get even worse one day when Raku witnesses her father come into her room to look for something to blame her with, only to find Raku. When Nelli gets home, her father scolds her for bringing a disgusting spider into the house, smashing the jar on the floor. He tells her to kill Raku or else before stomping off. Here Nelli prays that someone will kill her father, as she never wants to see him again. Raku, hearing her wishes and being mostly healed, turns back into his human form to confront her father. There he kills him without hesitation.

He is able to bring his body back into the woods, eating it to gain substance before finally returning home to gift his mother. His mother is overjoyed that he was finally able to kill and devour someone, before he finally is able to return to his room.

A couple of years later, in college, Raku while waiting in line notices the keychain of the game that Nelli plays, and finds that the two are in the same high school. They end up greeting each other and this is how the game ends.

I think I've said this before, but I really liked Karamu and this game is just so great. I like the artstyle a lot in this game, the way the sprites animate to look left or right in the beginning, the backgrounds, framing and all of that. It's absolutely gorgeous and I like how the picture book style story is connected in game as well, despite being coded in a new engine for the creator. The story in this one is pretty solid as well, and I think I like it more than Karamu in this regard since we get to see a lot more about Raku and Nelli's childhood- how they both do have pretty rough childhoods though in different ways and how Raku at least meets Nelli. The idea of Raku's species being more matriarchal and how males of their species are basically nonexistent is so interesting, it makes me genuinely wonder what his mother saw in him to keep him alive. While it's still horrible, I can see why Raku's mother pushes Raku so hard into eating humans, given her own biases against humans and the fact that she kept him alive despite the fact that she should have killed him, he just wanted him to be worth keeping. Nelli on the other hand lives in an abusive household, with parents that either seem to ignore her or outright abuse her, so it's no wonder she clung so hard onto Raku as a spider, as she wanted to take care of something. The fact that Nelli's father is already extremely terrifying to the viewer makes you feel sorry for Nelli who is even younger at the time. Both Raku's mother and Nelli's father are fairly terrifying in their own way and all the voice actors did a really good job in conveying that feeling.

Raku as a yandere is really built up here as his reluctance to fulfill his family traditions is eventually overtaken by his desire to protect Nelli. It's no wonder Raku falls for Nelli so hard considering that she basically not only saves him but nurses him back to health. The two of them are very similar in many ways and Raku really does seem to want to want to protect and take care of Nelli just as much as she takes care of him. We can really see why Raku ends up being so protective over Nelli as he actually lives through part of Nelli's life and sees just what kind of life she lives and how difficult it is for a lot of it. It's no wonder later on Raku is so willingly to literally eat and hide the evidence in Karamu and how he seems so very protective over her. I do think perhaps its a bit strange that Raku didn't come to look for Nelli later on down the line (or maybe he did and then gave up), but I do think that them meeting up is very poetic.

Anyways, I can't wait for the last game in the triology. I think Chatter really improved on their stories and games since last time and I can't wait to see what other games they'll make. I know that they're making a shorter game with a green color scheme that also has a yandere in it so I need to look for that as well in the future.

Celebrating Kwanzaa with Kidney-Friendly Recipes

Kwanzaa is a winter holiday created in 1966 by Dr. Maulana Karena. The celebration honors the African American culture. It is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st each year. The word Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili phrase “matunda ya kwanza” meaning “first fruits of the harvest”.

The Seven Principles of the Kwanzaa Celebration

Kwanzaa is based on seven principles or “Nguzo Saba” representing aspects of African American culture. The principles are Unity “Umoja”, Self-determination “Kujichagulia”, Collective work and responsibility “Ujima”, Cooperative Economics “Ujamaa”, Purpose “Nia”, Creativity “Kuumba” and Faith “Imani”.

Celebrations include songs, dances, African drums, storytelling, poetry reading, and celebratory meals. Each night during the seven day holiday, a family member lights a “mishumaa saba” (candle) which is placed in the Kinara (candleholder).

Celebration Symbols

The Kinara represents ancestry and the seven candles (one black, three red, and three green), each represents one of the seven principles. The black candle representing unity is the center candle. This is the first candle lit on December 26th. The red candles representing Kujichagulia, Ujamaa, and Kuumba are placed in turn to the left of the black candle and the green candles representing Nia, Ujima, and Imani are placed in turn to the right of the black candle. Each night a candle representing the principle being discussed is lit. The number of total candles burning represents the principle that is being celebrated.

Mkeka

Other traditional Kwanzaa symbols include the Mkeka, which is a placemat symbolizing the historical and traditional foundation. It is believed that today stands on yesterday. All of the symbolic items are placed on the foundation – the Mkeka. Mazao (the crops) is represented by fruits, nuts and vegetables and symbolizes work. The Vibunzi (ear of corn) represents fertility. One ear of corn is displayed for each child in the family. Children are believed to be the future because they are the ones who will carry cultural and family values on to future generations. If there are no children in the family two corn ears are displayed on the Mkeka because adults are responsible for overseeing the children in their communities.

On day 6 of the Kwanzaa celebration, the Karamu feast is held. The Unity Cup or “Kikombe Cha Umoja” is used to perform a ceremony where each family member drinks from the cup to promote unity.

There are no rules for food that must be served during Kwanzaa feasts and menus vary based on family traditions. Having kidney disease doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy delicious food during your Kwanzaa feasts. Kidney Diet Concerns

While there are no specific foods that are eaten to celebrate Kwanzaa, celebratory meals are often higher in potassium and phosphorus because there are more foods available than at a typical meal. Select the fruits and vegetables that are lower in potassium. If nuts are included at your Kwanzaa feast remember to limit your intake (and take your binder) because of the phosphorus and potassium content. When in doubt about a particular food, use the 25% rule to modify recipes or portions. Ask your dietitian to help you determine if more phosphorus binders may be needed at your celebratory meals.

On the seventh and final day of Kwanzaa, Zawadi (gifts) are exchanged with immediate family members and guests. It doesn’t matter how you celebrate the holiday season as long as you share the time with family and friends.

How do each of the boys act when they're sick? Anyone have a strong case of the man-flu? (Actala & Karamu)

Sei: No matter how sick he gets, Sei acts tough. He tries to go about his normal daily life even with a sky-high fever and a nose that's running like a faucet. It takes Shizu and Liam's combined efforts to get him to lie down for even a little while, but when they manage to do it, Sei passes out in seconds. (Note that this is mainly hypothetical, since Sei doesn't really get ill on account of his constitution.) Liam: When he gets sick, Liam acts needy for a little while, asking Shizu to make him food and feed him. However, he's the type to get bored/fed up with staying in bed VERY easily, so it only takes him an hour or two to decide to sleep so that he can get better as quickly as possible. Later that evening, he's up and about, ready to practice his swordsmanship. Faye: Faye doesn't get sick often, but when he does he has a surprisingly weak constitution. Any illness basically knocks him out so he's either passed out or completely incoherent/delirious throughout the entire thing. However, after one or two days' rest, he's right as rain again. Rowan: Rowan has too much work to do, so he tries to carry on as normal. However, he knows when he's too sick to do his work properly, so he begrudgingly goes to rest. He only accepts help with some very intense wheedling from Shizu, and even then he acts miffed (though he's secretly pleased by the pampering). Hugh: Hugh has a generally weak constitution, so he gets mildly ill easily. Because it happens so often, he has learned to continue working through the sickness. He tries to reschedule his work so that he doesn't have any meetings or public appearances, though. He doesn't want people to see his weakened state. (When he's more seriously ill, he tries not to accept any help, although he's not as stubborn as Rowan is.)

Raku: Raku has a pretty hardy constitution, so he rarely gets seriously ill, but when he gets moderately sick he definitely plays it up, trying to get Nelli to do all the things that she doesn't do for him normally. He mostly wants attention. He's very interested in cuddling and getting Nelli to feed him. (When he's SERIOUSLY ill, he doesn't show his face until he's well so as not to bother her.)

Sei: Sei would panic. Seeing Shizu so hurt, he wouldn't know what to do. He's not skilled in healing magic. He puts pressure on the bleeding until someone else arrives that can stem it; he's shaking from anxiety and fear the entire time. After that, Sei turns his blade on the being responsible, making sure that there's nothing left of them by the time he's finished. Liam: Even though he knows that he shouldn't, Liam breaks formation when he sees that Shizu has been injured. However, despite his anxiety, he's experienced in combat, and he handles the situation calmly, stemming the bleeding until a more experienced medic can arrive. Then he ensures that Shizu is transported to a safe location before returning to his duties. Faye: Faye's heart stops when he sees that Shizu has been injured, but he stays calm. It's been a while, but he's experienced in combat situations. Moreover, he's adept in healing magic. He appraises the wounds quickly before administering first aid. A full recovery will have to wait until they're out of danger, but at least Shizu is stabilized for now. Rowan: In an instant, the entire area is filled with flames. However, in the next moment, those flames are gone. Their enemies have disappeared, incinerated into particles so small that they're no longer visible. Rowan cradles Shizu in his arms, shouting for a medic. It's difficult to tell whether he's furious or anxious. He doesn't stop shouting until he finds someone to help. Hugh: When he sees that Shizu has been hurt, Hugh tries to keep a level head, but he's trembling. He supports her, half-dragging her until they're out of danger. When they're safely out of range, he turns his attention to the wound. He has studied healing magic before, but he's too afraid of his inexperience to use it. He can't mess up on Shizu; he would never be able to forgive himself. Instead, he puts pressure on the wound and fashions rudimentary bandages of his clothes, trying to remember the contents of the medical textbook that he studied a couple of years ago.

Raku: (Apologies for the short one, but I can't really answer this properly without spoilers) Raku is strangely, eerily calm. At first Nelli's attacker is relieved as Raku exits the scene, prioritizing Nelli's safety above all else. However, three days later, the attacker disappears, never to be seen again…Raku doesn't forget, nor does he forgive.

Sei: As soon as Shizu tells him, Sei's eyes light up. He puts his ear to Shizu's stomach. When he does this, Shizu laughs and says that he wouldn't be able to hear anything yet. At first Sei is disappointed. He seizes Shizu's hands and looks at her with bright eyes and says that he'll protect her and the baby from all harm, and she'll want for nothing as long as he's around. Liam: When he hears the news, Liam jumps up. He picks Shizu up bridal-style and starts spinning around her around until Shizu yells at him to stop because she's getting dizzy. When he lets her down, he kisses her and starts babbling about what they're going to name the baby. Faye: At first, Faye is ecstatic. He wants nothing more than to have a family again. But as he thinks, the anxiety grows. How long would a half elf/half-human baby live? Would there be any health complications? However, he doesn't let it show on his face. He hugs Shizu and holds her hand, and he tells her that he wants to start making preparations. Rowan: When Shizu tells Rowan the news, he looks shocked. Then, after a moment, he looks away and starts chuckling. Shizu is surprised; Rowan NEVER laughs, not like this. She is irked by his reaction, and she demands to know what he finds so funny. He ruffles her hair and kisses the top of her head, still laughing, and he says that he doesn't know. Maybe it's because he's so happy? (Shizu accepts the answer, but she still feels annoyed.) Hugh: Initially, Shizu is a little taken aback by Hugh's lack of enthusiasm. She knows that he isn't one for showing his feelings, and he doesn't seem UN-happy, but she had hoped that he would be a little more excited. However, later that evening, she spies on him in his study, poring over a dozen books on parenting. As he takes notes, he smiles giddily to himself, though when he notices that he's doing it he quickly tries to compose himself.

Raku: When he hears the news, Raku gets very quiet. At first Nelli is uncomfortable; she thought that Raku would be excited to hear the news. After a few minutes he hugs her tightly, and Nelli can hear his heart trembling. Raku is happier, happier than he's ever been in his entire life. But he's also deathly afraid. Afraid that he'll mess up. Afraid that he won't be able to be a good dad. And most of all: he's afraid of what his family will do when they find out.

What was your most and least favorite part of the process behind making Karamu? It turned out awesome, and I loved it!

Hmm, overall Karamu's production went pretty smoothly! It's difficult picking out a favorite part. I enjoyed doing the writing (the scriptwriting was SO fast and smooth, it only took around a week), and I did enjoy the art too (I shaded Raku's eyebags with love and care). I'd say that my absolutely favorite part was probably working with voice actors! It was my first time, and it was such a new and pleasant experience that really elevated the final product.

My least favorite part was definitely debugging, particularly working out the kinks on the Mac build. I don't code on Mac normally, so it was just a very time consuming and stressful process trying to debug the issues. Other than that, backgrounds are always tough for me, although I do think I improved while doing them!
