“No, we don’t. It’s summer, Em. Folks travel all the time while school’s out. The humans wouldn’t find it strange if we went on vacation for a bit,” Jasper pointed out. “The question is, where do we go? Sure, we could go up to Denali an’ have ta deal with our wives gettin’ angry at us because the girls were flirtin’ again. Oooorrrr, hear me out, we could head down to the Southern hemisphere where it’d be winter an’ hide out there instead.”

"Yeah just to be stuck in the house until it rains." Unless they moved back to Alaska for the Summer of course. "Just feel like sometimes there are more restrictions when there will be more humans out in the forest." he shrugged a little. More chance of being caught if they weren't careful. Because unlike during the school year where the bulk of humans were working or in school, a lot like to go camping in the summer. "You think we'll head to Alaska?"

Sometimes I think Tumblr shows some of the best of humanity. Not everywhere, obviously - there are always assholes - but ... I mean, come on. Our daily lives demand that we be ... flat. Incurious, unmoved by anything but the need to survive. To those who run the world, we're cogs in a machine and the only time we should appreciate anything that isn't "I have a job so I won't starve this month" is when they want to sell us something, and we should appreciate that without question. It's the worst bits of Brave New World and the worst bits of 1984, all in one.
But here? Here we tell each other stories. We create art just because. We watch the wonders of the natural world through digital windows, and we are awed and fascinated and our brains are alive for a minute. The adorable, the desirable, the awe-inspiring, the sexy - they're what we decide they are, not what someone wants to sell us.
We teach each other. We entertain each other. We inspire each other. We cheer each other on. We remind people all over the world to take their meds, to hydrate, to hang in there because there is beauty in the world. We live in a world where there are adorable little octopi and baby horseshoe crabs and little frogs that sleep in flowers. We live in a world where someone in another country wants to teach us how to crochet, or cook, or do home improvement stuff. We have experts - qualified or not - in every field, willing to teach us what school systems won't.
Yeah, of course there are assholes. Unfortunately, there always are. But I read through your posts, all of you, and I see a world that doesn't just want me to work until I die. I see a world that wants me to live, and most of all to enjoy living. I honestly hope the weird and funny and beautiful things I fill my own queue with help you all do the same. Everyone deserves to remember that the world is more than work-eat-sleep.
So thank you for the beautiful art, and the awesome writing, and the flowers, and the "It's Gonna Be Okay" posts, and all the trivia (even the kangaroo penis thing). Thanks for reminding me how much bigger the world is than some people want us to realise.

504. The Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, 1981, part 2
(part 1)
A sleepy Superman.
I love Regis saying "Hi, Mr. Hooper, you look great!" to the Sesame Street float.
FINALLY. Something interesting happens. Two actors from Hill Street Blues got out of their cop car and sang a song about NYC and dance with Ed. This is what I'm talking about. This is why I watch these old parades. This is my favorite part of that parade.
Ed says gruffly "Who are YOU?!" to Strawberry Shortcake. He shows her a parade from the past in super fast motion. Because? I don't know why. She said the parades where she lives are short?
Aw, its Stephen Nedoroscik.
Wait, I think I need this little girl toy that shows you where to put what eyeshadow where.
Here we go, flying too close to the sun with the microwave. Are those persimmons in with that chicken?
I am just not feeling the vibes of this parade yet, I had to climb in bed and take a two hour TikTok break about thirty minutes in. They're giving Regis nothing to do, he's just standing on the other side of town going "oh, there's smokey the bear. Across the street is the natural museum of history where I went a lot as a boy".
"Hey Reege, can't you see that I'm on my coffee break?" Nah, it's just the cast of the off broadway musical Pump Boys and Dinettes. They made it to Broadway the following year! There was also a TV pilot filmed but it didn't go past that. Aw, they only sang their theme song.
I found a screw up! Susan and Bill Hayes from the soap Days of Our Lives was supposed to sing a song about the parade, well they either missed their queue, or the music messed up, something. They had to restart their performance! I've never seen that happen with the parade. Susan is wearing Strawberry Shortcake's hat.
I love that Gregory Hines is having fun and singing directly AT the camera. This is almost a Quik Bunny "Try to Remember" situation from 1990. Seriously though, Sophisticated Ladies might me my 2nd favorite part.
Ed sings again! I think this is the same song he sang last year, but this time he sings it with Kaleena Kliff from Love, Sidney.
D0nny Osmond (he was only 24!) was the star on the turkey that year.
I don't understand why NBC is making their TV starts sing SO.MUCH. Even Kim Fields and Nancy McKeon from Facts of Life had to sing. Tootie had to sit in a kangaroo! Dave Winfield the baseball player sang too?!
Ann Miller sang to a teddy bear while on a dollhouse float that was leaning a lil. DonMcClean's float was shaking pretty wildly too.
Kermit made it! He looks good!
and then Kermit and Fozzie nearly committed car terrorism.
Underdog almost knocked some people out too.
There was an Opera rendition of Hansel & Gretel, which wasn't too great, but we got this witch!
Kool and the Gang came in on a giant butterfly!
Ok, so the good copy from New Orleans runs out at 2 hours, so if you wan to see the rest of the parade you have to watch the meh copy from Richmond, VA. You guys are welcome to watch the rest of the parade, but the video quality and sound quality is really bad. I can't even enjoy the old commercials they're so fuzzy. If anybody can find me a full copy that is in ... viewing condition? put it in the comments. If its before Thanksgiving, I'll watch it.

G'day mate, reckon if Straya was a bloody country-dragon, it'd be a ripper, breathin' fire like a barbie, and sportin' a snazzy set of scales, I reckon! But what do you reckon it'd look like? Is this request a mighty fine one? Cricket!
Ok, so it's not quite what you were requesting, but the OC I used as my mascot before Nix (the purple dragon in my pfp) was supposed to originally be an unironic, really stereotypically Aussie dragon lol, but in all the worst ways.
This is a drawing of her design after I toned most of that down, I don't have any of my really old art showing her from back in those days (which I'm honestly kind of grateful for lmao) but this is Kiesse. She was originally named Chrissy, She was green and gold because that's the Australian national colours when we compete at the Olympics/Paralympics (something I was working towards going to at the time, hence the obsession), her markings (not present in this version) were a reference to a popular style of tattoo among the surfer guys in my home town and she markings on one of her shoulders, I don't remember which, that were supposed to resemble the Southern Cross Tattoo a lot of dickheads people here have. It's kind of the Australian version of getting the American flag tattooed on you, with all the questionable implications that also tends to have (the only people I met who were an exception to that were the Paralympians I used to play basketball with).
There was one particular artwork I did of her though, I think it was to celebrate Australia doing well at the olympics or some other major sporting event, that was more or less exactly what you were asking for lmao. Again, completely unironically. I think she was wearing one of those cork hats everyone thinks we wear, at a BBQ on the beach. I remember trying to draw a kangaroo in there somewhere too, but I was like 13/14 so it probably didn't look much like anything honestly 😂.
I still draw Kiesse sometimes (I think there's some art of her currently in my queue) but she looks nothing like that anymore other than the green and yellow colour pallet (becuase honestly I just like the combo lol)
With all that being said, I won't be able to do this request. It brings back too many painfully cringy memories from my childhood😂I'm sorry.

What does it mean that they're non-placental? How do they reproduce 🥲 I'm confused
okay, so non placental just means they don't have a placenta (the organ that encases the fetus in the womb).
edit: ofc i totally forgot to answer your other question, they reproduce like other mammals [or us humans], engaging in coitus :) lol
so we got two types of non-placental mammals:
those that lay eggs aka monotremes. think of a platypus (which na'vi don't cus look at neytiri and ronal)
those that give birth to premature/immature babies and continue to nurture/grow them in an external pouch aka marsupials. think of a kangaroo
so i do remember watching a video/reading an article where james cameron said that they give birth in their second trimester, and the baby stays attached to their mother for the third trimester through their queues/tsaheylu.
but since i can't find that article/video, so now i'm really second guessing my sanity lol and i'm unsure if i should include this in my upcoming fic. so far i'm approaching it as a regular human pregnancy [minus the placenta] plus the known-things that come post birth [their communion + bonding w/ mama]
but this makes sense if they really are non placental bc they obviously don't have a kangaroo pouch but they do have a queue, which could transfer nutrients to the babe.
sources: na'vi being non placental non placental mammals

Saturday 11th February 2023
It is definitely a truth universally experienced that when you pick up a rental car undoubtedly the desk you want will be the one with the long queue. Europcar - no-one, Hertz - no-one, Budget - no-one, Enterprise - no-one, Avis oh look, loads. So 1 hour later we are bouncing our way out of Sydney Airport in the general direction of North and Shoal Bay in a very new Nissan X trail. Silver/grey. The day thus far had started well. We almost got up on time and the remaining clutter remarkably found a small space in the available suitcases. We have left a large one behind with Jill as I'm sure we don't need such an assortment of wardrobe in the outback! We managed to cadge a lift to the ferry and we were on our way for our latest adventure.
We instructed the Google lady with the task of finding our digs for the next three nights and she immediately chose the quickest route up the M1. We differed in this approach, preferring the coast and across a series of spits and peninsulas. She fought this all the way but we eventually won, mainly because she ran out of available left turns. In a way, I think she had a point because despite travelling on the Pacific Highway, we couldn't see over the sand dunes for the most part to actually enjoy a view. In all the journey to Shoal Bay is about 250km but because we took the tricky route it took about 5hrs. For any keen navigators, to arrive safely in Shoal you should plan to pass Woy Woy and Kurri Kurri, and Newcastle of course and you will be almost there. Roadsigns to make you aware of kangaroos and koalas are a very welcome sign.
Driving north, we were reunited with fly. We handed him back when we left Australia in 2019 but now we are away from the City we are allowed the fly back. I should explain that all visitors to Australia are allocated their own fly.

South Melbourne Market
A market patronised by both tourists and locals; this is certainly more upmarket. The usual fare of antipasti, nuts, fruits, veg, meats are all present. But add to that, little boutiques selling artworks, pottery, clothes and artisanal bread and chocolates. Famous pastry shop, Agathe, resides in this market. Be prepared for the snaking queues!
Your relatives and yourself, head over one Sunday for brunch. Yes, they drove all the way into town for the market. You have been here before, but its worth a revisit. Your first stop is a pie shop – you purchase a chicken and camembert pie. Laden with so much cheese, it truly befits its name. Problem is that is a bit too rich to eat the whole thing at one go. Luckily, you have your cousin who can polish off the remainders for you.
Next stop, OYSTERS! Pretty much every market would have a fishmonger selling them. Some markets more appealing than others. South Melbourne’s are appetising with a huge variety of oysters and a high table laden with sauces from Chipotle to Tabasco to homemade Thai chilli sauce. You procure a dozen Kangaroo Island’s oysters. They are on the smaller side but not as briny as others. You give a few sauces a try, but ultimately, you are a lemon and tabasco fan.
Your cousin’s girlfriend professes not to enjoy seafood very much. Her experience with it being overcooked and fishy. You and your cousin encourage her to give it a taste and she approves! She soon adventures to trying scallop sashimi as well. The scallops weren’t bad, but the oysters were definitely the highlight of the visit.
The meal is polished off with some borek which you aren’t much of a fan. But you never quite liked eating minced lamb…or red meat for that matter. You appreciate the bread with the thick Greek yoghurt though.
In between eating, you wander about the shops. You find some amusing trinkets, decide against queuing for a croissant at Agathe and turn down more food. You’re stuffed and ready to head to Dandenong Mountains for a bit of a walk. For those wondering, Dandenong Mountains is pretty much in the opposite direction. But that’s Australia for you, you must drive to really enjoy it. Thankfully, your cousin does!
