how did you get into making kandi? it looks cool & i want to try but idk where to start
honestly my best advice is to just jump into it. the supplies i find best for beginners and bascially what i use is:
-standard size pony beads (beadtin.com has the best prices if you’re making a large order or need a lot of a specific color but they’re easy enough to find as it is, dollar tree has some, not of great quality, but its how i started out.)
-cloth covered elastic stretch cord, i use 1mm. as tempting as it is, avoid ‘stretch magic’ or other clear stretch cords or uncovered elastic, the first dry rots over time and the second snaps easily. i know its annoying that it’s not clear but your peices will benefit from it. alternatively, if you are making a mask or bikini or a strap for a bag or something else that does not need to stretch, use fishing line, it’s very strong and stiff so it will make your rows look way neater and not get stretched out with wear. (again, only do this with peices that do not need to be stretched, if you use fishing line on a cuff you will regret it)
-yarn needle (plastic or metal, i use a metal one. make sure its small enough to fit through beads but large enough to be able to fit your cord.) you dont technically have to use one but it is a lot easier when you’re doing stitches
- scissors + a lighter for burning ends if needed
and then it’s youtube tutorials.. theres just about everything you need on there but i reccomend learning the peyote (odd and even variations), x-base and multistitch stitches. more complex tutorials expect you to know how to do those stitches so they’re a good place to start.
while all of these stitches are very versitile, x-base is most commonly used as the base for 3d cuffs. peyote is often used for making flat panels seen in purses and bikinis, and multistitch is often used to make cuffs. kandipatterns.com has a ton of free to use patterns for peyote and multistitch, though it took me forever to learn how to read a pattern effectively. there are more stitches ofc but those are the ones you see most. good luck and have fun!
i personally got into it in highschool, around the beginning of my sophmore year? my early cuffs were not great quality, but it’s cool to see how i’ve grown since then!
kandi is a community that is extremely friendly and encouraging to beginners and theres guides and tutorials for just about everything, and plenty of people willing to answer questions.

hi, i have had to make a switch from regular dog food to digestive care dog food for my pup juliet. for just a week's worth of food, it's $100+ and i need a bit of extra help with making the payments less severe on my bank account. additionally, i've had to add this to groceries, fuel money, medication money, and a doctor's visit for some scripts (and a doctor's visit is ~$80).
if anyone has any money to spare (all prices are in USD), i offer:
tarot readings - pay what you want, minimum of $3, 1-6 cards
oracle readings - pay what you want, minimum of $3, 1-6 cards
demon identification readings - pay what you want, minimum of $6.66, 3-6 cards
deity identification readings (for hellenic and kemetic deities): pay what you want, minimum of $8, 3-6 cards
channelling readings (for demonic, hellenic, or kemetic deities): pay what you want, minimum of $10, 1-6 cards.
charm casting readings - pay what you want, minimum of $8, 1-3 throws
art commission - pay what you want, minimum of $10
devotional art - pay what you want, minimum of $10
prayer beads - pay what you want, minimum of $20 + shipping
(NEW) kandi bracelets - pay what you want, minimum of $5 + shipping
(NEW) flower-style kandi cuff - pay what you want, minimum of $7 + shipping
(NEW) kandi multistitch cuff (must have an original design) - pay what you want, minimum of $15 + shipping
(NEW) kandi choker - pay what you want, minimum of $15 + shipping
(NEW) mini-rotator style kandi cuff - pay what you want, minimum of $30 + shipping
(NEW) UFO-style kandi cuff - pay what you want, minimum of $30 + shipping
(NEW) carousel-style kandi cuff - pay what you want, minimum of $60 + shipping
kandi prayer beads - pay what you want, minimum of $15 + shipping
custom sigil - pay what you want, minimum of $3
custom cross stitched sigil on a keychain - pay what you want, minimum of $10 + shipping
i have some books additionally that just aren't safe to keep in my home. please consider buying them:
book of the fallen by martin mcgreggor, used - $10 + shipping
the infernal gospel by rev cain, used - $10 + shipping
the goetia devils by rev cain, used - $10 + shipping
the satanic philosopher by rev cain, used - $10 + shipping
the goetia hymns by rev cain, used - $10 + shipping
i try to keep shipping as low as possible. if you live outside of australia, it will be anywhere between the $10-$40 mark to ship. if you live inside of australia, it will be around $10 to ship. regardless, if you are interested in a physical item, please contact me so we can discuss shipping costs and i can give you an accurate total. items can be combined for one shipping cost, additionally.
payments will be made through paypal or ko-fi.

Note
is kandi allowed as an art form? (like themed cuffs or multistitch with designs of characters for example)
Unfortunately we are going to say no as this is a gift exchange and you would be unable to give that to the person youre assigned

trying to plan out how im gonna make the base of the gunslinger out of kandi and ohhh man. i have no clue what i'm doing [ramblings under cut]
Tumblr media
i've already got the hand bits thanks to @/practicalsolutions' 3d print models so the hardest part is out of the way. my current thoughts are uhh. lemme make a drawing
Tumblr media
like a 2x base with the extra layer on top right. like my hot topic cuff
Tumblr media
but the issue is there's also this piece here;
Tumblr media
that grey bit with the buttons(?). if i do a 2x cuff that'll be harder right. so my next thought was to make the whole thing a multistitch built on a bumper base- like my sun and moon cuff but just. yk. Longer. but the issue with that is that's gonna be SOOO fucking bulky. my next best guess is combining the 2x style with the multistitch bumpers which will probably work. but at the same time i'm still kinda nervous about it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i can handle those yellow wires and stuff with just some single strands probably. that'll be fine.
so that piece i'll have connected to the gunslinger umm. somehow. theres a hole in the base i can run a string through and maybe make a chain stitching them together.
but then we have The Bullshit with the other piece
Tumblr media
i think it's kind of an octagon? on the front there's this keypad, wires, and a light (i think). the wires have a tab they stick out from, which has a smaller light on it.
Tumblr media
here's the back, an elastic strap. this part makes me mad.
Tumblr media
so it looks something like this from the bottom. if anyone complains about the quality of this drawing i will kill you.
i think i could do something like peyote stitch for the base of this piece, but after that point i think i'd need to learn how to do shape cuffs for the octagonish spots. i can probably make the lights & keypads out of perler beads?
Tumblr media
this would hug the inside of my arm nicely & i could switch colors midway for the elastic strap. the main issue i can foresee is stitching on the shape cuff bits so they don't look awkward. engineer tf2 i love you but this is a wack ass design to translate.

oop makin a kandi post becuz reasons lmao
i get all my beads from beadtin but if youre just starting out (or just prefer it) bead kits and such can be found literally anywhere (my favs are dollar tree, walmart, and joanns)
i use 9mm barrels (pony beads) and 1.2 millimeter string, as well as any fun beads i find for accents or singles
some youtubers i recommend are vickymuffins, mood.kandi, and kanditoybox. vickymuffins has great tutorials and has super chill streams. mood.kandi also has awesome tutorials and just good vibes all around. kanditoybox features a lot of kandi culture and has most if not all of her old kandi from the 2000s, great learning source!
START WITH SINGLES! sorry dandy i started u on stars lol. singles help you learn how to maneuver the string really easily and get used to the feel of making kandi. then the stitches i got into after that were multistitch, peyote, and then x base (xbase is a lot easier for me, but thats just a personal opinion)
once you get a project/style down, challenge your brain and work on something harder! never give up and remember you can never really fuck kandi up. when i got a ufo cuff down i tried a mini rotator, when i got a mini rotator down i tried a slinky cuff, and now im on to shoes and ive fucked up and started over twice! ill never give up learning new things in kandi.
thats all for now! hope this helped get you started and if not i hope it was still interesting!

WAIT WAIT I SOLD PRIDE KANDI AT AN EVENT LAST YEAR!!
one of my fave designs i did was the word pride spelt out with beads in a pride flag (like one with the trans flag where the p was blue, the r was pink, the i was white, the d was pink and the e was blue)
i did some multistitch and peyote cuffs with sparkly rainbow beads and a multistitch cuff with a nonbinary worm on a string that i found on kandipatterns and did pronoun singles in different pride flag colours too, and brought my beads to make custom flag and pronoun singles for people who wanted them
hope this helped a little!! :]
