Is there a mission or NPC that really gets/got under Kanan's skin? Did they overcome it? And if so how?

Oooohhhh. Ron Hope. Definitely.

Kanan meets him during the Freestar Ranger questline and from the beginning, they do not like him. Even with Ron Hope's whole spiel about wanting the best for his workers, Kanan can't help but feel a little icky while talking to him, and their gut feeling is confirmed toward the end of the questline when it's revealed that Ron Hope was the one instigating attacks on small farms in Freestar space.

Kanan knows all too well how greed can destroy people. As a veteran from the Colony War, they are very aware of how those in power will use those less fortunate as cannon fodder. Ron Hope just reminds them of how petty it is to keep continuously going after each other's throats when there's a whole goddamn galaxy out there to explore. There is plenty of space to go around.

The Ranger questline as a whole has Kanan reflecting on the things they've gone through. But dealing with Ron Hope is quite cathartic. Kanan felt pity for Paxton Hull. Absolutely 100% disagreed with his methods, but Kanan understood. Ron Hope manipulated this broken man that was Paxton Hull into doing his dirty work. So when Kanan turns down Hope's bribe and he tries to kill them, Kanan finds no remorse in pulling a bullet in him. Like I said, cathartic. Kanan is just one random space dude who explores and finds strange hunks of metal for a living, they can't change the systemic issues within the Settled Systems. But putting an end to just one corrupt man's schemes helps put Kanan at ease. In their mind, Kanan feels as though they have begun to right the wrongs they committed during the Colony War (even though Kanan is absolutely not at fault for any of the violence - they know they're a victim of war all the same, but they cant help feeling guilty sometimes).

Kanan is someone who tries to use their charm to talk people down, though they're not afraid to use force. But if Kanan had to go back in time and deal with Ron Hope again, I think they'd still kill him. God knows someone as wealthy as him could just easily pay his way out of the consequences of his crimes.

Thanks for the ask! The Ranger questline made me think a Lot about Kanan's character and their past so I'm so happy to yell about it.
