THE WORKSHOP #2: Third Party Kamen Rider Figures - Follow Ups and New Announcements

Welcome back everybody! We have quite a bit of new figures to go over as well as some quick updates on previously mentioned figures! So let's not waste any more time and get straight to it!

UPDATES

Toys Battalion: Fox Warrior CANCELLED

Starting off with some unfortunate news. It seems that the Toy Battalion "Fox Warrior" has seemingly been cancelled. Most websites claimed a Q2 release for the figure and while delays are to be expected, it seems Toy Battalion has had no issues keeping up with their MMPR movie line of figures. When the figure was initially announced I preordered mine from Onesixthkit, who I have heard a lot of positive reviews from, and on early September I got a refund for my down payment and an email. The email read as follows:

It seems that Toy Battalion might have gotten cold feet with making a Kamen Rider figure and instead pivoted towards a different audience that they were more confident with. To say that I'm sad this amazing looking figure was cancelled would be an understatement, but if anything it did make me massively respect Kit. OSK seems to be the only website that mentions the cancellation while others still have the item up for preorder, so from here on out I have OSK high on my list on websites to buy figures from.

SooSooToys: The Sun Warrior (Released)

On to some more positive news, SooSooToy's "The Sun Warrior" released and I find him to be absolutely fantastic! The feeling of the suit's material really feels as if I was holding a miniature version of the actor's suit. I find the possibility to be pretty alright just wish that it had more leg range so we can get cool Rider kick poses a bit easier. Found it a bit tedious to open the henshin belt and put the batteries in it since it's so small and I was having issues trying to open it up without feeling like I was going to break it. Other than that I am very very happy with the figure and absolutely looking forward to all of SST's future Rider releases!

VTS Toys: Shadow Rider (Released)

Another big recent surprise is that it seems VTS Toy's Shadow Rider is finally being released! From Lionrocktoyz we can see the box of the final product and the item is out of their preorders and ready to order. Hopefully we will be seeing videos of the figure soon as people start to receive their orders. We've already seen a YouTube short showing off the figure, so reviews are sure to be coming real soon!

Now that about covers it for the most recent developments on previously mentioned figures, so let's get onto the newly announced ones!

Announcements

Zero Toys: Malicious Knight

Kicking off the list with a newcomer to the 1/6 scale game is Zero Toys with their "Malicious Knight", aka Ark One! This design has always looked so clean, so to get a highly detailed scaled figure of it is absolutely amazing! He comes with his iconic briefcase sword. He's slated for an April 2025 release and with this being a new company it's going to be exciting to see the quality of the final product!

It looks like Zero Toys is really wanting to dive deep into the Kamen Rider franchise. They posted their current line up after their Malicious Knight, so we can hopefully expect a whole lot of Riders from Zero-One!

Two Ten: Black Devil Dangerous Warrior

Next on the list is yet another newbie, Two Ten Industries with their take on Kamen Rider Build's Black Hazard form. The Black Devil Dangerous Warrior figure seems to be packed with features and awesome accessories, you can even rotate the handle of the Build Driver! Currently scheduled to release around June 2025.

It's great to see new companies throwing their hat into the ring and making 1/6 scale Kamen Rider figures. Hopefully this is a sign we'll be seeing a lot more this upcoming year. Personally, I'm hoping for quality figures of the early Heisei Riders!

SooSooToys: Kamen Rider + Super Sentai

Now we have a whole bunch of announcements coming from a familiar face. SooSooToys is really going all in with Kamen Rider and Super Sentai/Power Ranger scale figures. An interesting one they've teased is the civilian form of Kotaro Minami himself! SooSooToys have not followed up on the tease yet, but they have a good track record thus far. My guess is that this one will take a while longer compared to suited figures as the likeness of a young Tetsuo Kurata will need to be sculpted. If it comes with a unique base as other SooSooToys do then that would add to the wait time as well. Regardless of all that, this announcement was incredible and I'll be looking forward to more information in the future.

SooSooToys: Supreme Commander

This one felt a bit out of left field since I would assume SooSooToys would want to focus on main Riders, but I guess they want to make as many as they can for Black RX. We have the very recently announced Supreme Commander aka General Jark and he's looking real spiffy! Coming with a couple weapons and few set of hands, he's going to look great with their Sun Warrior for sure!

SooSooToys: The Rage Warrior

Continuing with their line of Kamen Rider Black RX figures, we're getting another one of Kotaro's form. The Rage Warrior, aka BioRider, is slated to release around December of this year alongside their Despair Warrior, aka Roborider. Just like all of the Rider figures from SooSooToys, he'll have magnetically activated LED lights in the helmet. Having all of Kotaro's forms + civilian outfit + General Jark is going to be an absolutely insane collection!

SooSooToys: The Century Warrior+ The Century Knight

These two were my most wanted and I was absolutely stunned when I saw them go up for preorder. Seems that after tackling Kamen Rider Black RX they'll be taking a crack at the original Black! Not just Kamen Rider Black, but also Shadow Moon!

Kamen Rider Black is pretty light on the accessories since in the original series he didn't really utilize any specific weapons unlike his RX counterpart. Despite that, he is looking absolutely incredible and it seems that SooSooToys has heard the community and stated that certain aspects of the figure will be updated for the final release.

Now Shadow Moon on the other hand. He is absolutely loaded with some sick accessories such as his iconic Satan Saber and his Shadow Sabers. With these you can easily use this one figure alongside both Black and Black RX. On top of that Shadow Moon has a limited edition release based on a lesser seen form of Red Shadow Moon. Pretty identical to the regular release, but in a very gorgeous looking red. And yes, seems that Shadow Moon will have a stomp mechanic like he did in the show!

Then SooSooToys did something pretty crazy. We've seen their take on Sentai/Power Rangers before with their collection of Sixth Rangers, but now it's time for the Red Rangers to have their time in the sun. Yes, they have announced a wave of 5 Red Rangers to be their next big release!

This announcement came as such a massive surprise and it is glorious! It's a great variety of Rangers too since ThreeZero are releasing whole teams in chronological order, so might take some time before we see their take on seasons past Turbo/Carranger. With their track record of previous Rangers it's safe to say that these will be an incredible addition. I'm left with only one question, where's TimeRangers/Time Force?! Hopefully they'll do another set of 5 more after these are released.

BONUS

Time for a bit of a bonus round on here. While not 1/6 scale figures like the rest of this list, it's still some third party Kamen Rider releases and I just liked them enough that I wanted to share them with everyone. These are 1/12 scale model kits from a company called Yu Bo Wen Chuang and while not carrying any names related to Kamen Rider, it's very plain to see just how inspired they were with the designs.

The first one on this list is Sako, the shark Knight Mecha Girl, and it looks like she must have gotten her gear from SmartBrain too. Yes, she is very much the Kamen Rider Faiz of this line. With her motorcycle even turning into a robot that shares a striking resemblance to Autovajin. She's up for preorder on sites such as Gundamit and it looks like the preorder bonus are an extra face plate and rubber chest piece if you want to lewd up the figure a bit.

Next up we have Lia! She's the Kuuga inspired one even coming with her own Gouram and Trygouram bike.

Personally, I feel like it's a downgrade from what was initially shown off. Their original design really wore the inspiration on its sleeve and the little details made for great references (such as the facemask being the same as Kuuga and the Arcle wrist morpher design being more overt).

The new redesign still has a chance to impress, but there's not a whole lot of info out there at the moment. So we can't tell if we're getting 3 figures + the vehicles, or if it's additional armor sets to represent Growing, Mighty and Amazing Mighty forms. Hopefully the rest of the line isn't afraid to be legally distinct with their designs.

Safe to assume she'll have a similar preorder bonus like our shark friend here, but what I'm more concerned about is if she'll have an alternate thumbs up hand!

So while I was writing this up, it seems some more model kits were announced! The new line up consists of the initial 3 plus some very welcomed additions! The first line up of silhouettes ended with a Geats lookalike character, but now we have an additional two. After Geats it seems we have Kabuto and quite possibly a model kit of Orga. Which is super surprising. I would assume they would be doing main Riders for a bit before delving into secondary Riders, let alone movie exclusive ones. Although I'm not complaining one bit! In one of Sako's (Faiz) promotional pictures they slyly teased at a Kaixa figure too! This line of figures is really intriguing and pretty cute all around! Now we just have to wait until next year to find out how they'll compare to other model kits on the market.

taking off the mask: kamen rider’s affect on my life

tw//mentions of dysphoria, self harm, suicide, quarantine, depression. part 1: 2019 it's almost scary to think that i've been into kamen rier for four yearas now. all things considered it's been a decent run of it. no matter what it's been a constant through so many hard times and so many ups and downs. honestly, it's kinda grown with me in some regard. Starting with a Round Zero, I got into kamen rider right at the end of zi-oh and im now ending off high school at the beginning of GOTCHARD. so many things happened in this time i never thought would happened and i'm honestly really baffled by how much has changed. Kamen rider was originally something that i found because of DXtokusatsu's 10-20 minnute long kamen rider dx toy videos where he would speedrun though the different 4th riders. another video being the all final forms runthrough going up to build's genius form. from there i began to look into kamen rider as a series. I liked how ghost’s driver looked, I loved how it opened, i liked the sounds it made, I especially loved the eyecons. so cool, so simple. In fact, my first few kamen rider purchases were ghost related. I had yet to find out about the google doc or drives, so i was unable to watch kamen rider, instead sticking to AMV’s and dxtokusatsu videos as well as henshin compilations. It was a feeling of pure ecstacy I had never felt before as I devoured every piece of media i could find regarding kamen rider. I was honestly obsessed. Instead of watching kamen rider, i just rewatched mystic force for the millionth time. classic. I distinctly remember believing kamen rider was just a continuing show where there were tons of seasons you had to watch in order and every so often we’d get a new rider who would interract and help the other riders. a connected multiverse moreso than the kamen rider universe already is given the sheer number of crossovers. Finally, something caught my ear. Burning my soul, Kamen rider cross-z’s final (yea fuck you muscle galaxy) form. It instantly became one of my favorite songs and i listened to it on repeat CONSTANTLY. That being said, i wasn’t all that big of a fan of most other kamen rider music. It was mostly a slow burn on a lot of songs like double action sword form and the classics. I’m still not exceptionally fond of No Fear No pain if i’m being completely honest. Eventually, and i’m not really sure how, but I started watching ghost. Yes, i know, terrible start. I was unenthused, as one would assume, but i stuck to it for a decent few episodes, until an online friend of mine reccomended build. at this time I had been saving up money and had bought a handfull of eyecons. this was my introduction to a long and unhealthy addiction to candy toy candy. I had always been a little too anxious to order shit online, though kamen rider soon changed that as I became almost attached to ebay like a parasite. even now friends come to me to ask me to keep an eye out for ebey kamen rider deals. My first real transformation device... or set of devices were the transteam and nebula steam guns as well as the steam blade. I was planning to buy a ghost driver with the money to go with the items, though that never came to fruition, and even now, four years later, it remains one of the white whales of my collection along with but not limited to: W/lost driver, buggle driver, gamer driver, hyper muteki, hazard trigger/fullfull bottles, and 01 driver. despite having a hilarious ammount of stuff from ex-aid, w, and ghost, I have never owned anything to use them in. i’m honestly not sure which is worse not to have though, considering i’ve got every other 01 main rider driver other than the ark driver.  I remember distinctly watching kamen rider in school with my table mates, we’d sit in the back of the class, and though they never understood what was going on, they enjoyed the fight scenes. School at this time was stressful to say the least. Going on 3 years now of severe depression and beginning to question my gender identity, kamen rider became a safehaven among the various fights with parents, bad nights wrought with dysphoria, hidden wrists, and reddit rants sprinked in with my various kamen rider themed posts. Kamen rider remained something I could rely on when things got tough. From finishing build, i immediately (regrettably) moved right on to zi-o of all things. a decision that, even to this day i question. zi-o got me into looking at zi-o related items, specifically woz’s driver, which would soon become my first driver (mostly because at the time it was the cheapest driver on amazon). Waiting for packages in these times, and even now, was something that kept me going in the lowest points I went through. Even though My mind was filled with all these dark thoughts, even though I felt I had nobody, I still had kamen rider to keep me sane. I was going through my own personal transformation that felt even more important when looking at the transformations the characters were going through. in november i finally got to go to therapy, and it was frankly one of the best things i’ve ever done. Finally getting clean, finally getting better, and honestly just feeling really good. Getting better was definitely a process. one I don’t really remember, but one i was doing with the help of kamen riders. It may be strange, but I started developing an ideology about kamen riders that kept me sane during this time and even now i still follow it. “would a kamen rider do this?” something that frankly only applies to the heroes, but even so is a reminder to do good if I can help it, both to myself and for others. Kamen riders in my eyes are not the suits, but instead the people wearing them, it;s an ideology more than it is a type of armored warrior bug man. It’s a willingness to fight and die for what you bellieve in. A sentiment I carry with me everywhere,  as 2019 came to an end, I began to grow more comfortable and things regarding me mental health settled down a bit. Christmas was in the air and a new issue arose, a very strong embarassment towards kamen rider as a whole. I had a christmas list of various kamen rider things I was interested in, though I was embarassed to admit I liked this childish japanese kids show. I didn’t want my family to think i was a wierdo or a nerd, or any of the other things I actually am. I came to the realization I was wearing a mask and that I wasn’t the person I wanted to be and i had to Be the One to change that. So i sent out that christmas list of various kamen rider things. did i get them? nah. but that’s alright, I had christmas money I could use specifically for that within the safety of my ebay account free of the judgment I got from my family. This embarassment for who I am still lingers to this day, and especially as a self conscous 14 year old, this worry was soul crushing. I had nobody to talk to about kamen rider, and I couldn’t just talk to new people about it. Sure my friends would listen to me talk about it, and comment about how hot all the boys were. But i was isolated, completely alone with my love of this karate bug man show, Living alonw with my own personal Devils. My parents grew especially tired of it. the near constant sound of me sitting in my room, doing transformation poses in the mirror with a stupid grin on my face. I’m 14, I shouldn’t be liking this Kids show. I should start acting like an adult.  an adult... man, that was some shitty advice. when you’re a teen, it’s always, “you’re gonna be an adult soon, so you better act like it” but then when you’re an adult it’s always “well you’re only 18, you’re still a child honestly”. Most of the people I found online who liked kamen rider WERE adults.  I should mention that i’m an only child and I’m not exactly a talkative person, especially at school I would keep to myself. It wasn’t that I wanted to talk, moreso that I had nobody to talk TO about the things that were on my mind. I wanted desperately to tell people about kamen rider, and I wanted desperately to share my interests with people in a way that mattered. I didn’t have exceptionally deep friendships until quarantine. I spent most of my time alone, and if I wasn’t alone, I was with my parents, and when I was with my parents there wasn’t much I wanted to talk about because it was all fairly negative. So I talked about the positive things in my life. Kamen rider. I talked INCESSANTLY about kamen rider to them and they hated it. They didn’t understand it, and frankly didnt care about it. it was distracting me from my studies, god forbid keeping me alive. I don’t want to say my parents were abusive during this time, but frankly, they were pretty damn close. They didn’t actually realize how badly I was hurting, and didn’t realize how bad it really was. Figures, that mask was good for a lot more than hiding my love of masked bug men. though I was on a rollercoaster of good and bad, It was the end of the 2010s, and as I completed my Journey through this Decade and moved into the next, I was filled with Excitement at reaching the Climax of the year, ready to Jump into the next one. Progress isn’t always linear after all.

"Be The One” Arc Analysis: Kiryu Sento and Oscar Pine

Kiryu Sento(aka Kamen Rider Build):

Past Life: Katsuragi Takumi 

He is a 26-year-old physicist who transforms into Kamen Rider Build to uncover the truth behind his mysterious past.

Oscar Pine:

Past Life: Ozpin

Formerly a farmhand from Mistral, he has decided to help protect the world from Salem.

1.Not Knowing Who Your Are

Similarity: 

-Both at the start of their debut lack memories regarding their past

Differences: 

-Sento lacks his due to alien powers wiping his memories 

-Oscar lacks his because they are from a life as an immortal wizard/headmaster at beacon academy

2. Being Shaken Up By Learning More About Yourself

Similarity:

-Both as they learn more about their past become shaken but continue to fight for what they believe in despite the harsh reality within himself

Sento dealing with his mistakes as Katsuragi

Oscar dealing with his past mistakes as Ozpin 

Thus resulting in both of them feeling self-doubt 

1. And having to deal with anger from characters like Jaune and Banjou, who immediately acknowledge Oscar and Sento are not their former selves

Difference:

-Sento isn’t able to talk to his former self thus cane only blame himself

3. Having to Rely on Your Inner Demon 

Similarity:

-Both undergo failures in trying to be themselves in the face of adversity due to having to rely on powers from their former selves 

-Sento’s Hazard Form and Ozpin represent the idea of innocence in the face of hardships 

-Berserk Forms in general for Kamen Rider represent primal instincts connecting to Oscar using Ozpin’s magic without needing to think about it too much 

-The harsh reality of the current situations also affects other characters in the process such as Banjou and Ruby who would normally push through but can’t due to feeling guilty for their weakness 

-This is signified by having black covering their original colors 

Difference: 

-Sento’s Hazard Form bring out more of beserk stateand results in the harsh reality of killing someone

-Ozpin’s magic brings forth longest held memories memories while Oscar deals with the failure of not being able to stop Ironwood 

4. Accepting Hardships 

Similarity:

-Accepting the consequences of Ozpin’s actions to trying to save the world like he is right now, Oscar uses it as the basis to to become a stronger and more resolute version despite the harsh reality of the outside world

-Essentially building ontop of it to form who he want to be 

Difference:

-Sento’s is more literal by creating a device to work alognside Katsuragi’s 

5. Betting on Your Future Self

Similarity:

Both states represent the perfect balance of:

being who you wanting to be  and  while not forgetting the hardships you will face 

-These hardships both being in regards to being betrayed by other people

6. Having Faith in the Support from Close Connections

Rabbit Dragon represents Sento’s True Final Form, resulting from the faith in all of his friend’s support, being completely unwavering when fighting by himself and not having the opportunity to cope with reality after the deaths of Kazumi and Himuro

Oscar despite having gained support from others still likely has self-doubt in regards to how he will deal with current hardships regardless of how much the merge has progressed 

However, this state was foreshadowed in that despite Blue Shirt Oz being hesitant to fight because of his family, his souls become one when going into battle from the okay he got from that family

A quick doodle of my idea for a custom omnitrix I’m making I call it the Omni driver heavily based off a Kamen rider driver

the alien forms are stored in bottles that are placed in the driver to transform into the selected form also having suit for the human to wear that enhances strength speed and such and is just a rider suit I figured out ultimate's could instead be implemented via a separate trigger akin to the hazard trigger from kamen rider build ultimate forms while more powerful if used to long can cause the user to enter a berserker state

Build Hazard gives me all of the Rider monstrosity vibes I like

With the way the Hazard Trigger completely overwhelms the consciousness of the user and replaces it with the need to destroy everything in sight, I’m surprised Sento isn’t suffering from brain damage.

We actually see its influence traveling through his neurons and impacting his brain, and he uses it pretty frequently; why hasn’t it affected him outside of the suit?

I guess you could say that the writers didn’t want their protagonist dealing with brain damage on top of everything else, but they haven’t exactly been holding back so far. They could make it work.

I mean, I can’t say I’m an expert on the topic, but even smaller moments showing Sento having some processing issues would go a long way. Of course, this could just be my sadistic writer tendencies coming out, but I still think it would make sense in the context of the show.

This episode was the worst.

It was ironic that the moment Sento demanded Ryuuga to return to his sense he lost his. I thought Fang/Joker and Type Dead Heat were dangerous but Hazard Form really took the whole plate of cake.

In that one week Sento in Heroic B.S.O.D, did he remember to take care of himself? Has he eaten anything yet? He looked worst than my dirty rug…

Was that Aoba’s ghost or Sento’s hallucination?
