Kalen LeRoux, Camille Severin's late father mentioned in the webcomic Muted, is in a romantic relationship with Abrielle Severin and has children with her, before his death. He's implied to be a trans man through stating that he used to perform magic before he realised he is trans(something in-universe where only women/girls, and trans people who are in the closet/don't know they're trans yet but are seen as women for now, can use magic otherwise the ability just doesnt work for them and to some extent nonbinary and other not binary people have limited use of magic) and it's implied that Abrielle gave him a wish that she was supposed to make as per her family's tradition, so that he could physically transition, and also sometimes the use of color schemes alluding to the trans flag, and the creators confirmed that he is a trans man.

while I've been opening up more, allowing myself to be vulnerable and rejecting shame, I still find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, as a chubby trans man, to imagine someone loving me. The lack of media and artistic representation of trans men being loved is not insignificant to this. I cannot name a single book, movie, tv show, song, or other form of media (except visual art such as paintings) that explicitly depicts a trans man experiencing love. If there is clearly a lack of romantic sentiment towards trans men, why should I think I would be privy to such experiences? Why would I look at myself, someone who I am trying so hard not to hate, and think another person could look at me and see someone worth their heart?

Hello, I’ve been reading your comic in webtoons, and I really like it. I’m following with interest. There is something I don’t understand though. There is this concept that mixed family children are a Bad Thing. But since men do not (as far as people generally seem to think) have magic, why is this an issue? Do men still carry some latent Wrong Bloodtype Magic gene into the child, or can two women have children with magic in this world? I know cam’s father had magic, but that wasn’t known?

Everyone in a witch family has the gene for magic it is just dormant in men! 

So if a LeRoux had a daughter with a random non-witch lady then the kid would still be a LeRoux witch because the gene was would be passed to her. 

And if a LeRoux dude and a Severin woman have a kid - they both have magic in their blood. Magic is a dominant trait in women so it would be two very different kinds of magic completing. Where as with a non-magic partner the magic doesn’t have anything else to complete with 

Plus the reason why Kalen specifically used magic is because he’s a transman and there was magic involved to make his body capable of having kids with Abrielle.

is there any specific reason why camille and chloe's names are likened to kalen's name and rowena's name is like rowan?

camille and chloe are subtle-y plant related to nod to LeRoux stuff (camille like the camellia flower and Chloe means ""young green shoot" or blooming in some sources)

Rowan is a type of tree - Rowena is named after him in his memory after the car accident like one would name their kid after a grandparent!

After rereading Muted for the third time (Kalen will forever be one of my favorite characters in Muted despite his limited screen time), I realized that it's never revealed how exactly Kalen and Abrielle met each other in the first place. So how exactly did Kalen and Abrielle meet? And what did Kalen do to make Abrielle fall in love with him? Because Abrielle did mention that he showed her how messed up her family was.

an episode of them meeting was one of the things that i had thought about but wasn't really sure where it would fit in with the story! so the closest you got was an image of young Athalie seeing kalen and abrielle talking in the swamp - which is basically where they would meet up.

The first time was just Abrielle when she was about 9 or 10 stomping off into the swamp to get some peace and quiet away from her family (not unlike how camille tends to walk away from things when she's upset) and wandered far enough to find Kalen there.

The relationship was tense at first - mostly her looking down on him because she'd been raised to look down on other witch families and him just kinda being like "?? lmfao what is your problem" and by the end of the first meeting of her kind of begrudgingly being like "okay i guess leroux aren't that bad..."

So then they kept meeting more and more in the swamp and mostly it was just a time for her to relax without the stress of her mom breathing down her neck and actually getting to have fun like a kid and laugh without anyone judging her + getting to learn more about the leroux and other witch families and starting to understand just how closed off her family is in a way that she hadn't really realized before.

years and years of this (eventually turning into him actually inviting her to hang out at the orchard sometimes) until they were old enough that Alette started talking about them getting married off more which leads to her confessing to him that she doesn't want to get married to anyone else because she likes him so he gives her a smooch vuv (when they were around 17-18 probably)

Hi! I love Muted an am fascinated by the plot and families! But I was wondering something. Do the witch families have there own symbols. Like the Severin’s all wear the wings. Then Kalen LeRoux drew a rose symbol in his journal of spells. What do you think the rest of the families would use to symbolize themselves?

I tried to have all of them have symbols but ... then I'd forget to draw them or couldn't think of anything that i liked enough for them LOL

but yeah LeRoux have roses (you also see Jazmin has rose lapel pins in a similar way that camille has wings)

The Eloi - if you see their style of fashion- often have crescent moons on them. (all of them did at one point - even Diana had a necklace before taking it off later) The Lacour don't really use a symbol necessarily so much as gold jewelry, but if they did use a symbol it would likely be an alligator skull

Hi! I love Muted so much and I’m so glad it’s back for season 3. I have a rather stupid question, but what colors are the main casts eyes? Are there any eye colors specific to certain witch families? I hope you’re having a good day!!

if you see eyes that are dark like Camille's or Avalines- that basically means they are very very dark brown to the point of basically being black. Sophia and Silvia have very pale blue eyes though which is less common in the severin family. Usually they are that dark brown/black the Dupre tend to have more "neon" colors, like nyra's green or sloane's blue. But all have cat pupils that can become slits or dilate to the point of making them look almost black.

the Leroux is very common to have sage green eyes (harriet / Kalen) but that isn't the case for all of them. The most common trait of that family is some shade of red hair.
