One Piece Fairytale Collaboration
Peter Pan! Kaku x Fem! Reader
Tumblr media
This is my piece for @boa-h's Fairytale collab! Be sure to check out @simpforroses, @starrybrujita, @the-witch-of-one-piece, @lucciluvr, @hollyberryfairy, and @cherryblossom-chopper stories because they're all amazing! Thank you once again for letting me be a part of this collab. Also shout out to @one-piece-aus for helping me finish the story.
This story is roughly based on what I know of Disney's Peter Pan, some elements of OUAT's world-building of Neverland, and of course mixed in with One Piece characters and references uwu
(Click “Keep reading” to read the story)
There once was a boy with a long nose who could fly, he lived on an island where magic was real and anything was possible if you imagined it. It was a wonderful place, the boy was free to do whatever he wanted and not have to worry about responsibility. He crafted many things and his talent was spectacular, but what enjoyed most was flying around his island feeling free.
However, as time passed, the boy grew lonely, unable to share this joy with others. So he flew into other lands, finding children and inviting them to come to his island so they could run around and play. While the boy did make lots of new friends, none of them wanted to stay on the island, they had families they wanted to return to. The boy became sad at this but he came up with a solution. At night he would let the children visit him on his island in a dream, and by morning they would wake up in their bed.
The island was then named Neverland, for it was a place children never had to worry about, about growing up or about responsibility. It was a place where you could run around and enjoy being a child.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Woooooow!" the children exclaimed, beaming with wonder after hearing the story.
"I... I wanna go to Neverland!" [Name] spoke up for the first time since reading time.
"It's just a story, it's not real," a boy scoffed at her which made the other kids laugh.
"But..." [Name] couldn't think of anything to say, feeling discouraged.
"Of course it's real!" Her friend Usopp declared standing up and pointing at his long nose. "For I, Usopp, am the boy who can fly!"
"Really?!" Some of the kids fell for his lie, but he continued once he saw [Name] smile.
"Yes! I fly around my island every morning before fighting some wild animal in my forest! And [Name] comes there all the time!" Usopp gestured toward her, and she smiled.
"Yeah, I- I do."
"Can we visit the island too, Usopp?"
"I'll have to think about it." Usopp pretended to be thinking hard. "Maybe I will if you give me your cookies at mealtime."
"I'll give you my cookies if I can stay on the island!"
"Yeah!"
"It's better than staying here!"
"Alright children, that's enough," the lady who was reading the story said. "Or there won't be cookies for anyone."
"Yes Makino-san," the children responded in unison.
"Besides, here's not so bad," Makino optimized, clapping her hands and giving an encouraging smile. "And I know all you will find wonderful families soon."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Name] brushed her hand over the cover of the fairy tale, recalling the memory of when she first heard it ten years ago. How, after Makino read it, she said they'd all find families, but as the years passed, it never came true for [Name]. She would only see the others find parents and have a place to go home to, even her friend Usopp.
Since then, she would read the story, over and over again. She thought maybe if she read it enough times she could meet the boy who can fly and go to his island. There were even a few times when [Name] would dream of flying across the ocean toward what she believed to be Neverland but she would wake up before she landed.
[Name] looked toward the twilight, finding the first star. She got lost as she stared at how it shined despite the day not having been fully consumed by the night. [Name] placed her hand on the window and closed her eyes.
"I wish I could go to Neverland," she told the star. "I wish it was real, and then..." She paused, tears building up in her eyes. "And then it could be my home."
She smiled yet her teary eyes showed how her heart wept in sorrow. As the water dripped from her eyes, her smile faltered until it was washed away completely. She stayed there, crying until sleep overtook her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wind shook [Name] awake, her eyes widening when she saw the window was blown open. She got up to close it when-
"Is that how you welcome guests?"
[Name] jumped hearing the voice, she spun around to see a long-nose boy her age floating above the ground.
"Although I do appreciate the gesture, it is rather chilly out there, brrr." He shivered, briefly burying his mouth in an orange handkerchief he wore around his neck.
[Name] blinked, "...Usopp?" She wasn't quite sure if it was her friend, he had the long nose but he acted differently, yet his presence felt ever so familiar.
The boy laughed, holding a hand on his forehead. "Sorry, but no, that's not who I am." Lowering his hand, he swooped over to [Name] and held out his hand to her. "The name's Kaku."
"Uh- [Name]," she responded, shaking his hand and taking time to notice his nose is square.
"I know who you are, [Name]," he told her, giving a friendly smile.
"You... you do?" [Name] questioned, her expression mixed with confusion and surprise.
"Of course I do," Kaku confirmed after [Name] let his hand go. "I remember everyone who comes to my island."
"I... what island? I mean- I don't- uh- recall..."
"I don't blame you." Kaku scratched the side of his cheek. "You've only been to Neverland once-"
"I've been to Neverland!?" [Name]'s eyes widened with stars.
"Yes, you've visited once in your dream," he nodded as a matter of fact, but then frowned. "It was a while ago... That's probably why you don't remember." He gave a reassuring smile.
"Oh..." The excitement disappeared as depressing thoughts floated back into [Name]'s mind. "I guess this is a dream too, one I'll also forget..."
"Is that what you're going to believe?" Kaku rose a brow. When [Name] didn't notice his gesture he flew around her three times, letting pixie dust fall on her. "Then, let's prove that wrong."
[Name]'s eyes became wide as she felt herself beginning to hover above the ground. "Woooh!" [Name] waved her arms, trying to balance herself.
"Having a hard time?" Kaku laughed and then began flying circles around her. "Why don't you try to imagine you're swimming?" He slowed down, mimicking how frogs swim. [Name] tried to copy him but wasn't able to do it as smoothly. Kaku chuckled at her attempt and then took her hands into his. "Here, let me give you a hand."
Kaku guided [Name] around the room, one could call it a dance with the way the two swayed in the air. [Name] acknowledged how gentle his hands were as if they were made to be held, and she took note of how her hands perfectly fit in his like a glove. She smiled, enjoying this warm feeling. As if the heavy weight of her downness had been lifted off her shoulders, [Name] began flying around on her own.
"I see you got the hang of it," Kaku commented as he watched her fly. A few moments passed while he stared at her in awe before [Name] went to hover in front of him.
"This is amazing!" she exclaimed, twirling around to emphasize her statement.
"Just wait until you see the rest of what Neverland has in store," Kaku told her as he gestured to the window that magically opened. "Follow my lead." The boy moved to fly out the window but got pulled back by a timid hand. "Hm? What seems to be the trouble?" he inquired, not sure why he was stopped.
"I... What if I lose sight of you?" [Name] asked. "What if I get lost?"
Kaku chuckled and place his free hand on top of the girl's hand. "Don't worry, only the lost can find their way to Neverland."
Wonder filled in [Name]'s eyes, she hasn't even stepped foot on the island but Neverland is already welcoming her with open arms. Even if this is surreal, she wished this dream would last forever. The warm feeling returned and she radiated joy hearing Kaku's words.
Once the boy saw her brighten, he took a running start and flew out the window. "And we're off to Neverland!"
The two rose over the village [Name] had lived in all her life, from this height she saw how small her world had been. Gazing at the mid-stary night, was a reminder of how massive the world is. However, she never imagined she'd be able to see up close until they flew above the clouds and she was greeted by the moon. Her eyes became filled with the stars that danced around, they twinkled and sped across the sky. [Name] couldn't decide what to look at for it was all so breathtaking.
"We're coming to my favourite part," Kaku told her as they flew by the last of the clouds.
[Name] glanced down to see the large vastness of the ocean reflecting the stars in its waves. "Woooooow!" This view was better than going to any candy store a child desired to run around in.
The two dived down until they were mere inches above the water. Curious, [Name] ran her fingers through the blue sea, feeling the coolness hugging her skin. Lifting her hand out of the ocean, [Name] saw how some droplets of water stayed on her skin. She laughed in delight as the two flew back up to the sky.
"There it is, Neverland!" Kaku announced once the island came into view as they soared toward their destination.
It is a large aquatic island. Giant pieces of coral stuck out making the island appear to be a wildflower. Water flowed through the island on multiple different channels, some settled into a pond, others run as rivers that'd become waterfalls. The most spectacular sight was the enormous fountain acting as the cherry on top.
"This is the most amazing dream I've ever had!" [Name] exclaimed just as they set foot on Neverland.
"Who says this was a dream?" Kaku asked walking around.
"I'd assume so, I mean..." [Name] glanced around feeling surreal. "This place is too beautiful to really exist."
"Heh, just wait until you see this place in daylight," Kaku told her jumping in the air and flying a loop. "It may be beautiful now but the difference really is night and day," he explained, rubbing the tip of his square nose.
"I'll get to see it in daylight!?"
"You bet your boots you wil-" Kaku was interrupted but cannon fire coming from the distance. His playful self became serious, turning to where the sound echoed from, he frowned.
"What was that?" [Name] worried, not used to the sound of bombs.
"It's those pirates again," Kaku stoically stated. He temporarily softened his eyes when he looked back at [Name]. "Hang tight here for a bit, I'm going to a gander at what they're up to."
"Will you be okay?" [Name] asked out of concern, something in her gut jabbed at her that misfortune would come.
"Don't worry I'll be back within two shakes of a lamb's tail."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Name] patiently waited on the sandy shore, drawing squares in the sand, it brought her comfort since they reminded her of Kaku's unique nose. A few crabs came by, bringing her sandwiches and juice so she could keep her energy. It was at this point [Name] knew this wasn't a dream. If it was, she would've woken when Kaku left to see what the pirates were up to, whether because she was scared of what might happen to the boy or the returning feeling she gets when she's left alone, it would've woken her up. However, this was reality, not just a dream, she couldn't wake up to rid herself of the fear wrapping around her mind.
After finishing the sandwich a crab had given, she got up to look for them, not wanting to be alone with her worry. She wondered around the shore, not straying too far from the squares she drew in the sand. To no avail, [Name]'s search for crabs seemed to be a lost cause, that's when she spotted a large amount of what appeared to be pink cotton candy coral sticking out from a rock. Finding it to be strange, [Name] walked over to try and take a piece from the rock when-
"Ow!"
[Name] jumped, she wasn't expecting to be someone. Going around the rock, she discover the abundance of pink actually was hair that belonged to a tall boy who looked a few years older than her. Some might even call him a young adult but he could still be called a kid in [Name]'s eyes.
"Oh sorry- sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you," [Name] apologized, a bit distressed since she was afraid she hurt him.
"YO-YOI, NO HAAAAAAAARM DONE," the boy responded. [Name] had to cover her ears because he spoke really loud. "BUT WHAT, PRAY-TELL, ARE YOU DOING HERE, YO-YOI? ARE YOU AN ANGEL FROM HEAVEN WHO HAS COME DOWN TO DELIVER A MESSAGE FROM MY DEAR MOTHER?"
"I'm- um- I'm waiting for Kaku to come back."
"KAKU? YOU MEAN THEEEEE PETER PAN OF THIS IIIIIISLAAAAAAAAAAND?"
"Yes?" [Name] was unsure if there was anyone else named Kaku here. "He- uh- he went to see what some pirates were up to, but he hasn't back yet..." she trailed off as she glance over to the direction where Kaku went, becoming worried once again.
"PIIIIIIIIIRATES?! YO-YOI, THIS ISN'T GOOD!"
"What? What do you mean?"
"THE PIRATES WHO SAIL NEAR THIS ISLAND CONTROL PEOPLE'S SHADOWS! IF KAKU HAS BEEN GONE FOR THIS LONG SOMETHING MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED TO HIM!"
"What can we do?"
"WE CAN SAVE HIM, YO-YOI! WHERE DID YOU SEE GO?"
"This way."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"There they are," [Name] whispered to the boy, who she found out was named Kumadori. The two of them were peeking over the coral you hid behind, analyzing the situation. "Oh no, they have Kaku!"
A giant man that looked like a squash dressed as a vampire, held Kaku captive in his giant gloved hand. One could visibly see the boy struggling to get out of the squash's grasp. The man only laughed watching Kaku struggle while some other strange people wheel over a large spotlight and a grand pair of sheers.
"This Isn't Good, Yo-Yoi!" Kumadori told her in the lowest voice he could manage, though it was still louder than how a normal tone would be. He pointed at the sheers. "Moria Going To Use Those To Take Kaku's Shadow, If They Manage To Get A Hold Of It, The Pirates Will Have Control Over Neverland."
The area seemed to turn into a graveyard as [Name] felt unease crawl onto her and whisper the worst outcomes into her ear to haunt her mind. Panic disrupted her breathing, increasing the speed and cutting it short before pushing on to the next breath. Her temperature decreased as chills swarmed every inch of her skin.
Why? Why now of all times?
Just when [Name] finally was able to come to this oasis that she longed to be taken to.
Just when [Name] felt she finally had a place to call home.
Just when [Name] was able to meet her long-lost friend again.
Just when [Name] had found joy.
Pirates.
Pirates were going rip that away from her weak timid hands. Irritable depression swirled inside [Name], and she felt tears rise to her eyes. No, clenching her fist and fighting back her tears, [Name] turned to Kumadori for help, not wanting to idle by and let this happen.
"How can we save Kaku?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Kishishishi! At last, I'll finally have control over Neverland!" Moria declared as the spotlight flicked on.
Kaku winced at the blinding light, doing his best not to stare at it. He wasn't amused by this, he found this whole thing boring and had better things to get to. Kaku thought dealing with these pirates would only take a moment like it always had, but he fell into their trap and they seemed to learn how to keep him contained after last time.
Moria grabbed hold of the sheers, positioning them just below Kaku's feet where the boy's shadow began. The pirate grinned sinisterly as he snipped off the shadow. With satisfaction written all over his face, Moria dropped the boy to drop the prized shadow.
"KAMI SHIBARI!"
Long strands of pink hair wrapped around Moria, preventing him from grabbing the shadow.
"No!" Moria growled as he watch the shadow escape out of his sight.
"YO-YOI, NOW'S YOUR CHANCE [NAME]."
[Name] swooped in and grabbed Kaku, flying him away from Moria. Not knowing the entire layout of the island, [Name] headed to the shore where they landed when they first arrived. Carefully she let Kaku set his feet on the ground before she settled herself on the surface.
"You came for me?" Kaku spoke in surprise, cutting [Name] off guard.
"I- uh- I had some help," [Name] bashfully told, knowing she couldn't take all the credit.
"Ah right, you had Kumadori help you out. I thought I recognized that pink hair," he muttered the last bit to himself.
"What happened to your shadow?" [Name] asked looking for it. "I thought Kumadori said the shadow would fly back to you if no one was holding it."
"That's what I reckon most would do if they were in my shoes, however, it's a foolish move on my part if I did that."
"What do you mean?" [Name] inquired, tilting her head.
"I simply told my shadow to hide someplace on Neverland," Kaku explained.
"You can do that?"
"It is Neverland, anything is possible." Kaku smiled and booped her nose.
[Name] returned the smile, feeling at ease in Kaku's presence.
~~Bonus~~
[Name] hummed in contentment seeing her child snoozing away. She set the storybook down and then tucked her child in bed, planting a kiss on their forehead before standing up and heading to turn off the lamp when she felt strong arms snake around her torso. Glancing behind her, [Name] smiled when she was greeted by Kaku's soft expression.
Kaku gave [Name] an Eskimo kiss before glancing over to the little one sleeping. "Finally fell asleep?"
"Mhm."
"I wonder how long it'll be before they wake up," Kaku whispered to [Name] as he turned off the lamp, letting the stars glow in the room. "Quite the hand full job being a parent is." He turned to [Name] giving her a confused expression. "How can kids be so all over the place?"
"You say that like you didn't act like that when you were a kid." [Name] playfully poked his cheek.
Kaku chuckled, hugging [Name] closer. "Well, you certainly helped me grow up."
[Name] hummed dearly, nuzzling her lover's cheek. Her eyes settled back on their child.
"Did they like hearing our story?" Kaku asked.
"They fell asleep again," you informed him. "It must seem like a dream to them."
Kaku hummed, a smile tugging on his lips. "But we both know it's not just a dream."
