Usually an Enigma, he rarely expresses himself. But in G Rev he does express himself during his intense battles.

This is one such scene where Kai got so worked up over something. Such as in this episode when Kai fights Brooklyn for the first time and Hitoshi taunts Kai about his intention to join BEGA. Kai evidently regards Takao's and his battle as something akin to a treasure and valuable.

He goes absolutely ballistic when Hitoshi casually comments on his and Takao's battle calling it a "mere obsession". Hitoshi's choice of words ticks him off successfully. His expression twists and his voice gains an edge. His words and expression ooze dislike at Hitoshi's non chalant words.

It's like he's questioning Kai's thoughts feelings and his dedication he put forward in his pursuit of Takao. It's outright disrespctful towards someone's hardwork and feelings.

Unpopular opinion: I think is super weird that Mao calls Rei “Brother” (Rei-nii) in the Japanese version, considering she is suppose to be in love with him. I feel their relationship is more natural as brother and sister (since she is always looking up to him).

i hope you don’t mind me publishing this ask but that’s probably a question a lot of people want an answer to (me: [sweating profusely in the background]) i can’t give any date or anything but my fall semester in university is crazy busy and one of the courses includes subbing a whole-length movie so i just haven’t had it in me to continue my beyblade subs, all i can say is i’ll get back to it as soon as i can.... which hopefully is before this year ends lmaoo ah i hate it myself too, i don’t know why i didn’t just finish the subs during summer.. (laziness, probably, it’s a lot of work to do just for fun in the end)

I always loved how Kai and Takao think the world of each other, yet neither seem to truly realize it (it's funny in an exasperating kind of way!) Despite officially having the title of Champion (and he does not let anyone forget about it either lmao) Takao considers Kai to be the epitome of what a true Beyblader is, the absolute best of the best. On the flipside, Kai is obsessed with Takao as 'the final hurdle', the peak of the mountain he's trying to conquer. Everyone else is just a stepping stone to his rematch with Takao (very few Bladers have the honour of being considered a true opponent, Max and Rei being two). They consider the other as the ideal to strive for. But even when they've had that battle, they just...do it all over again. They work to prove themselves to each other over and over. Personally I've always felt that Takao's 'goodness' from Kai's perspective is how he always manages to have fun in his battles, to befriend any opponent, and especially his capacity to reach out and forgive. Kai's 'goodness' to Takao is his sheer willpower, his respect for the game and how he puts his whole heart and soul into it.

This is obviously Takao's feelings about Kai whenever he leaves, particularly the Russian Arc and G-Rev. But it does apply to Kai in some capacity, too. Remember when he 'accidentally' nearly took Hiro's head off with Dranzer when Takao wasn't present at a match?

Again, this is all about how both boys hold each other in such high regard, perhaps sadly to their own detriment. Despite their apparent pride and confidence, they can both be worryingly self-deprecating. They're so afraid of somehow letting the other down when it comes to Beyblading. It's easy to attribute this verse to Kai's betrayal in Russia, I don't think Kai has ever forgotten Takao and his friends reaching out to him in forgiveness on the frozen lake. But it applies to Takao as well. He can be full of himself, but you can't deny he doesn't work hard to defend his title when push comes to shove (though maybe it's not so much to defend his title a continuous attempt to justify it, which strikes me as deeply sad). Before their battle against BEGA, Takao was the one training for hours on end without stopping, even when the others were calling for a rest. When Takao loses in G-Rev he takes it hard. (I've covered this before in my 'essay' regarding my feelings and headcanons around Takao's mental state in G-Rev). This would be something I think they would have to work on in future if they did become a couple. It's great to admire and respect your partner, but not if it makes you feel like less of a person in comparison!

This verse is a nod to the future. I think Kai and Takao's attempt to 'do right' by each other could, at first, potentially lead to a few misunderstandings! Since they think the other is 'so good' they might think 'I don't deserve him, he should be with someone else'. But once they get their act together (and actually get together!) I can see theirs being a relationship where they inspire each other to be a better person and really learn how to love each other in a way that doesn't result in tearing themselves down, like I said before.

At first all I could think about for this verse is the scene in G-Rev by the river at sunset when Kai rejoins the team to take on Brooklyn (Takao even tells him 'you're late'). But I think it could also be the moment where they finally admit their feelings for each other. I can just imagine their expressions when they realize, not only is it mutual, but they've had feelings for each other for a long time! Why did it take so long for them to admit it?! A good kind of 'shaken'.

It's more far more intense than Rei/Mao match in season 1 where Mao confessed her feelings for Rei.

It's far more deeper. Imagine feeling for someone so much and so intensely and that being mutual that the bit beasts create an alternate dimension. Since the dimension created is the materialisation of the inner thoughts.

Look at them! Is there any heterosexual explanation? Kai's expression! His gaze! Not him looking at his rival like he's enamoured! It's like their own private little world.

Do they need any confession?

I'll admit, this is sort of an AU fave of mine. I tend to imagine Takao singing this song, at home in the dojo with an acoustic (or bass) guitar. It's just a song he's been working on in his own time, but some of his real feelings start to bleed through, especially in the latter half and final verse. Because really, isn't it just Kai's attention and admiration he wants at the end of the day? He enjoys fame but I don't think it would mean even half as much to him if Kai wasn't watching. Takao misses him when he isn't around.

In the end, in canon and AU, it's all about the yearning.
