day 9 » there’s a certain taste to it
Last week Elsa had spent a good hour lecturing them about how they couldn’t eat pizza and coffee forever, and how skinny they both looked. She guessed it was a “mother's thing”, but she wouldn’t know, her own mother always encouraged Gwen to be as thin as possible and always look pretty in the political events her father would attend. So she wasn’t used to being so… cared for, but she was doing her best. Even trying her hand at cooking.
“So, how’s it?” Gwen was looking at Kai with those huge and colorful eyes full of expectation, and he couldn't lie to her even if he wanted to. First because she could tell right away, and second because he wasn’t good at it. So it’s time to compromise with a half truth.
“Well… there’s a certain taste to it.” The words sounded strained even to his ears, and immediately her bottom lip pouted out. “Oh don’t make that face.”
“It’s awful isn’t? Oh god, i’m the absolute worst!” She stomped her feet like a child, letting Kai pull her into his arms and between his knees in an easy embrace. “Can’t do anything right.”
Kai had learned, according to Vivi, that Gwen was a virgo which means she was extremely self critical and couldn’t stand her own failure, even with simple trivial things. Most times he found it endearing, but sometimes it was worrisome how much she wanted to please everyone around.
“I’m not listening any of it. Yes, you can’t cook to save your life - le-OUsh don’t hit me let me finish. BUT it doesn’t matter. You’re smart, and beautiful and magnificent in every way that matters.” Gwen had a hard time accepting compliments, always quiet and defensive, even from Kai who was the most trustful person she knew. It wasn’t the first time they had this conversation, but for now, she would let him win this argument. “So…” Kai squeezed her hips a little, morphing her pouting lip into a smile.
“So…”
“Pizza?” They said at the same time. What Elsa didn’t know, didn’t hurt.
