the bear, kai havertz
genre: fluff, domestic fluff.
summary: kai struggles more than your son does on his first day of primary school.
warnings: none.
this fic is a repost of my old previous work on 808heartz.
"I can't believe this is happening today," Kai murmured to you, for the fifth time, while his eyes fixated on the road. He let out another deep breath, one that was riddled with an unshakable anxiety.
Your hand took his into yours, intertwining your fingers as the pad of your thumb began to rub his knuckle. You couldn't stop the slight smile that curled up your lip, trying to bite it away before you let out a laugh. Your eyes met his gaze, a quick look he gave to you with an annoyed eye roll while he murmured about the severity of the situation.
"Kai, look at him," You shook your head with a soft smile as you motioned to your son, who sat in his car seat quietly while he played with his bear—a gift from Kai that he's never been apart from, his favorite source of comfort. "Devon's gonna be fine, honey. We've prepared him for this day for a while now." Your words were reassuring, but not enough to settle the nerves that tickled underneath Kai's skin.
"I'm just worried about how he'll adjust."
Your mouth opened to speak, a rebuttal brewing— wanting to ask if your fiancé if he was really worried about Devon or rather how he was going to adjust to Devon's absence—but the gentle jerk of the car being placed into park had stopped you from speaking. You turned to Kai, who had already been looking at your son with a slight pout, and you squeezed his hand to get his attention; he turned to you and sighed, nodding that he was ready.
He had no choice but to be.
The click of your seatbelts undoing had made Devon perk up in excitement, and he was quite eager to get out of his seat, which Kai couldn't even pretend that he didn't notice. He opened the backseat door, unable to contain the smile that rose onto his lips from the sight of his son, his little clone at that, and undid his seatbelt to scoop him into his arms.
Kai sighed as he grabbed the little Bluey book bag, that contained nothing but his lunch and other necessities, and slung it onto his other shoulder.
He looked down at Devon, who was completely content in his arms as he held his little bear. "Are you excited, vögelchen?" Kai asked softly, smiling when his son had only responded by cuddling into his arms more while he hid his face. He pressed a gentle kiss against his temple, rubbing his son's back. (little bird)
As relieved as Kai was that you were near now, he wished that you were still in the car, rummaging through your purse for a document that the school needed; anything to prolong dropping off Devon, wanting to savor the little minutes he had with him before he worried about him for the rest of the You ruffled your son's brown locks, beautiful strands that resembled his father's, while smiling up at Kai. "Alright, baby, it's time!" You cooed lowly, trying to remain as calm and collected as you possibly could, not wanting to stress out Devon and Kai.
Despite the short walk from the parking lot to the front of the school, Kai was reluctantly to let go of Devon, and carried him the whole time.
Even inside.
The walk to the classroom made goosebumps rise along his forearm: hearing the laughter of excitement from the older children, accompanied by the cries of terror that got closer with every step to Devon's class, and when the three of you reached the door, the warmth from his son's teacher still wasn't enough for Kai. He felt as if the sound fizzled out, unintelligible as you spoke to Devon's teacher, when he looked down at his son, and he could feel his lips begin to quiver when those big brown eyes stared back at him. The gentle wiggles of his soft body trying to get out of his grip made it too real for Kai, watching as Devon grabbed your hand when his teacher kneeled down to his level to speak to him.
The sound restored when Devon turned back to look at him: the laughter, cries, and footsteps came back to hit Kai like a freight train. He kneeled down and opened his arms, gnawing on his bottom lip to hold back his tears as he engulfed his son into a little hug. He murmured reassuring phrases in German to him, and before he let him go, he pressed a gentle kiss onto his forehead. "It's gonna be a good day," Kai whispered, holding his hand while his eyes watered. "I promise."
Devon nodded shyly as he clutched his bear in his hands, afraid to let go of it, and though he didn't have to, he did.
"Daddy's," He murmured, holding the bear out for Kai to take; shocking you, along with Kai, who had to blink back his tears an insurmountable amount of times, when he took the bear into his hands.
Kai kept a tight grip of the bear, wanting to make sure this was real, even after the final goodbyes for the day and the blurry walk to the car from all of his tears. He sat in the passenger's seat, unable to drive now as his head rested on your shoulder, and he held onto the bear for comfort; trying to stop himself from looking at the school that Devon would be in for the next six hours-which felt way too long to Kai.
He completely underestimated his emotions.
"It's a good thing I didn't go to training today."
"I don't think you would've survived the day if you went," You teased, trying to lighten up his mood as you looked down at him. His smile was small, but still as bright as ever, and you pinched his cheek after wiping away his remaining tears: murmuring about how you missed his smile. "Only five and a half more hours, Kai. He'll be with us again before you know it," You spoke quietly as you ran a hand through his hair.
Kai sighed and nodded in agreement: the two of you could only wait, as agonizing as it may sound for him. He looked down at the bear, keeping it close to him as he thought about how he couldn't wait to hear about Devon's first day later, and it made him laugh almost-worrying about how Devon would adjust, when really, Kai should've worried about himself.

Unrequited love (& other clichés) — Kai Havertz.
Pairing: Kai Havertz x Fem!Reader
Summary: Kai must’ve looked too hard into whatever you two had going on, because you didn’t seemed to feel the same.
Word count: 650+
Disclaimer/s: Angst I fear.. all angst.. maybe a little bit of hope at the end though ..
A/N: This is for @ar4ujos and @hrts4havertz specifically.
Kai breathed quietly while you two walked along the winding brick roads. He knew you haven’t been having the best time lately, so he wanted to show you he was there, that he cared. He’d showed up at your house, offered you his hand, told you to go on a walk with him, he even felt his heart squeeze at the sight of your smile.
Now, you two walked along a random road in the outskirts of the city. The roads clearly decaying with decades of use.
The moon lit up the sky, casting a welcoming glow over the two of you. His hand intertwined with yours, a light hold to keep you beside him. You didn’t say anything as you walked, you simply observed the buildings around you silently.
It wasn’t so late that the shops were closed, but the moon had come out already, and the streets were quiet. He heard a quiet gasp leave your lips when you walked past a flower shop, his attention quickly turning to it.
“Do you want to go in?” He asks, gaze drifting to your wide eyed face.
“Yes.” You reply, instantly.
He chuckles, giving your hand a quick tug before opening the door and letting you go in first. Inside the shop, you browse the array of bouquets. Commenting on the ones you like and don’t like, you don’t seem to notice the way Kai had plucked one flower from the ones you liked.
By the end, he’d had a full hand of flowers. You turn around to ask if he was ready to go, when you notice. You let out a laugh, “seriously?”
“Dead serious.” He nods, “let’s find the cash register?” Trailing behind him in disbelief, with a small smile on your lips, you make your way to the cashier.
Once back on the street, you sniffing the flowers and Kai watching you with a fire growing in his stomach, you continue your stroll about the town.
You walk and talk for hours. Kai asking you about various topics, your family, job, the things you liked, and vise versa. You found the both of you had more similarities than you’d ever thought. The watch on your wirst read half past eight, but neither of you were ready for the night to end.
You only stop when he spotted a bench to sit at so you could both rest your feet. “I’m surprised you don’t have a boyfriend,” Kai adds subtly.
“Not really looking for anything romantic.” You shrug in response, “it doesn’t interest me.”
He felt disappointed shoot throughout his body, straight to his heart. He knew he shouldn’t have gotten his hopes up, but you were too perfect not to feel hope for.
You give him a warm smile, “if I were to though, you’d be a prime candidate.” It could’ve been a joke, but it still stung. But, supposed it was better than nothing. “Unfortunately, now is definitely not the time for me to start anything in that way.”
Double sting.
He had a chance, but he’d have to wait. And Kai could do that. For you, he would. Then you looked up at him, a hidden emotion deep within your eyes that he wished so badly he could decipher.
You made him feel a mess, he didn’t want to be just friends, but you didn’t want to be.. anything. Not right now. For a while, he believed the feeling may have been reciprocated. Clearly he was just a fool.
You noticed the shift in his demeanor, your body tensing slightly. You felt guilty, you wanted to let him know how much he meant to you, but you couldn’t. It was simply for the better that he didn’t get involved with you right now.
“Walk me home?” You ask, “it’s late.”
Kai nods, standing up from the bench and offering out his hand. Always a gentleman, even when you’d broke his heart in two.
likes , comments , and reblog’s are all appreciated. lmk if you’d like to be tagged in any of my posts.

fiery red - Kai Havertz
Y/N x Kai Havertz Theme: Smutish (teasing, touching, slightly explicit) enjoying alone time in the arsenal locker room on Kai's first day x word count: 1140
It's summer, and for every football fan, that means one of the most exhausting, thrilling, exciting, and heart-breaking seasons begins, Transfer-season. Many players are switching to another club, another country, basically another chapter in life. The same happens to your longtime boyfriend, Kai. When he told you a few weeks ago, that Arsenal was interested in him, you couldn't hide your excitement. Even though he played for a London-based club before, every club and every team is different, with different styles, traditions, and fans. Kai asked you, and invited you, to join him for the announcement photoshoot in the Emirates Stadium.
You're standing at the sidelines while he's the center of attention. Not his most favorite position, being a little shyer around new people, but he actively looks for your support, just by looking at you, his beautiful eyes shining so brightly. You smile comfortingly, and you can tell it helps him a lot. Kai is wearing his new jersey proudly, and it flatters his upper body extremely well. He strikes a few poses before it's time for a little interview, for their fans to get to know him. You're supporting him from behind the scenes, being proud and happy. Then, it's time for a little tour through the tunnels, the stadium, and right into the Arsenal locker room.
You're entering the iconic room first, with Kai following you closely. Even though you've been to multiple locker rooms before, this one feels a little different. Maybe it's the history behind it all, or just the wooden smell hovering in the air. No matter what, Kai approaches you from behind, gently grabbing your waist while pulling you into him, to whisper into your ear. "How did I do?" He says quietly, and you feel his warm breath burning on your skin, giving you goosebumps right away. Embracing his body against yours, you lean back. "You did so well, babé." You smile comfortingly, turn your head and kiss him softly.
"So, that's the locker room." The guide says behind the two of you, causing both of you to turn around to meet this older man, who's smiling warmly. "Yeah," Kai says nervously, and they exchange a quick look. "Just like we agreed to, you've got 15 minutes." He nods, and you just raise an eyebrow. Confused, you look at Kai who's blushing heavily. "Thank you." He says as the guy leaves the room, closing the door. "What was that about?" You say, one of your hands running up and down his arm before he intertwines his fingers with yours. "Oh, uh, I asked if we could get a little moment for ourselves."
He shrugs, his face still flushing with color, as he runs a hand through his nicely done hair. "Is that so?" You tilt your head, knowing very much what he's up to now. Kai nods proudly, and he turns his body to meet yours. Instantly, he leans into you, kissing you lovingly. Once your lips meet, you get drawn into him, melting into a more passionate kiss. You kiss him once, then twice, while he starts to purr contently. "Mhmm." Kai breathes into your mouth, before he pulls back, his eyes locked with yours now. "I'm so nervous." He exhales, and his body grows a little stiffer than usual. "That's okay." You say quietly, placing a hand on his chest, the other at his neck, gently tracing his jawline with your thumb.
He embraces your hands on his body, and at the same time, his hands stay on your waist, with his thumbs moving up and down your body. "I just wanna do everything right," Kai says, and his expression softens slowly. "You're doing so good, and.." You say, thinking about how to say what you're about to say. "They want you for their team. They need your talent, your style, and your soft personality." Your eyes meet again, and you can tell he's feeling a little better already. His eyes are shining even brighter, his body relaxes and a coy smile forms on his lips. "You think so?" He smiles warmly, while you nod approvingly.
"Of course!" You say, stroking his chest now with your hand while caressing his cheek with the other. "And to be honest, you look damn fine in red and white." Licking your lips, you smirk, before your eyes wander down to his jersey, and his chest fills it fully. A mischievous grin spreads all over his face once his eyes follow your gaze, and you feel his muscles tensing slightly underneath your hand. "Oh, I do know that," Kai smirks now as well, causing you to blush slightly. "But thank you." He purrs, enjoying your gentle touch all over his chest and neck.
You keep on stroking him, while smiling happily, before you lean in again, to kiss him. Right away, you can tell he's getting more and more into it, with him now using his tongue. Enjoying himself even more, he pulls you into him, so your bodies are just mere inches away from one another. Still, you steady yourself against his firm chest, exploring his body with your fingertips. You can tell his nipples are pressing through the jersey hard, his muscles are as sensitive to your touch, and right then, you take in his familiar scent breaking through the smell of the locker room all around you.
Taking a deep breath, you embrace all of him, as his hands wander around your waist to stroke the small of your back tenderly. "Kaiii." You giggle into his mouth, causing him to hum happily again. A tingling feeling spreads through your body, while he kisses you again and again, when his hips start to grind on yours. Just by that you know his desire is slowly but steadily building up inside him, and it shows inside his tight track pants. "I need you." He moans softly into your mouth, as he opens his mouth to pull away. Gasping, you feel the same.
However, this is not the time nor the place to strip down, so you steady yourself against his firm chest, to look into his eyes. "I think we gotta wait a little longer." You smile, looking around you, making him aware of your current situation. Kai sighs deeply, closes his eyes, and regains his composure. "I know." He says, opening his eyes to meet your gaze once more. "It still sucks." The two of you giggle quietly, with your hands wandering all over his chest, drawing circles on his jersey. He lowers his head, following your every move closely, while you keep going.
You spent some more time cuddling, touching each other, while exchanging longing looks. Time flies, and the door opens again, with your guide smiling warmly again. "We good to go?" He says, and the two of you nod.

I’m home
Pairing: Mason Mount x mom!reader
Warnings: none, just cute stuff
Summary: Mason comes home for his girls after being away for a while.
I had been away for a month now, I had a few games in a row and a lot of training.
And now I was coming home missing my wife and my daughter.
Sophie Isabel Mount was the sweetest little girl of all, she was daddy's little girl for sure.
Y/n and I have been dating for four years, after two years of relationship we found out that she was pregnant.
At first it was terrifying, we were certainly not prepared for it.
It was something that we wanted eventually but not at the time it happened.
The first few days it was strange, Y/n did the pharmacy test and it was the only result we had at the time, so until we actually went and saw the ultrasound it was like it wasn't real.
Y/n by the time she saw the ultrasound immediately started to cry, I was still ecstatic and it didn't really hit me until that same day, but was in the middle of the night.
I was rolling around in bed unable to sleep, I spent most of the night imagining myself being a father, how my sister always told me that I would be a great father, especially if it was a girl.
The good thing about my sister having Summer was that I could practice changing diapers and get more or less a sense of what it would be like.
And that's where I burst in tears, Y/n woke up scared by the fact that I was crying at three in the morning and that's where I told her it was because we were having a baby.
As soon as I opened the door to the house, I took off my sneakers and changing to my flip-flops and putting my training things on the floor.
“I'm home” I said out loud and then I heard fast footsteps running through the house.
“Daddy” she screams and I bent down to her height taking her in my arms “I missed you”.
“ I missed you too sweetheart”.
“You took a long time to come back”.
“I know baby, sorry for that” she hugs me tight.
“I don’t want you away never again.” She says.
“I know baby and I’m sorry for that, your going everywhere with me now. I’m putting you in my suitcase.” She starts laughing.
“And what about mommy?”
“We can bring mommy with us.”
“Ok then.” She says and kiss my nose with her nose “Can we go to the park with Malcolm?”
That is the name of the golden retriever we gave her when she was a baby, they are best friends.
“Yes we can, where's mommy?”
“She is outside, we are bathing the flowers.
Sophie and Y/n had a garden in the back of the house where they took care of the flowers, there were many flowers and even some vegetables.
It was one of the activities my girlfriend does with our daughter, she made a whole schedule of activities for the week to develop her creativity, and also because it is one of the few things that keeps her mind off from thinking too much about me since when I am away she cries a lot because she misses me.
“Let's go see mommy then" I took her in my lap and we went to the back.
And there she was, barefoot on the grass, wearing a loose flowered dress and some waves in her brown hair.
“Hi love” she dropped the hose on the ground and came to me “I missed you so much”.
“I missed you too” I kissed her.
“Ew” I laughed with my lips still close to hers.
“Ew what, young lady” I said, patting her belly “Let's finish helping mommy to bath the plants and then we can go to the park and walk with Malcolm.
“And then pizzaaaaaa”. We shouted in celebration and went to bath the plant.
And I was more than happy to be home.

Say that again. Part 2. —Mason Mount
warning: a little of angst, curses.
words: +3k
#sexynote: thank you sm for the support <3 More is coming soon ;) xoxo
8 months later.
Returning to London was a difficult decision to make. Especially when you had left everything behind, with thousands of doubts and uncertainty, not knowing what would happen.
It was no secret that what hurt you the most was leaving Mason, after that night of your goodbye, you never saw him again. And you could still feel your skin crawl at the memory of his confession and his wish for you not to leave. But it was your decision and you were as eager as anyone to leave England to start a new life in Norway.
Every day that passed, you were convinced that you had already forgotten Mason and after so many months, he would have forgotten you too. It was obvious that his was a whim, as it had always been.
The flight home was pretty smooth and quick, excited to see your friends again. Sophia would be waiting for you at the airport and the anxiousness made you shiver as you walked through the gate carrying your things, expecting to see your best friend on the other side and just as you imagined, there she was. You ran to her and grabbed her in a big hug when she opened her hands to receive you, wrapping you in a big, warm embrace.
"I missed you so much," she squealed happily, still turning in her embrace.
"Me too, darling" you kissed her cheek softly.
"What about me?" you heard someone's manly voice speak. Of course he had come. He never let his girlfriend go anywhere alone.
"Mr. Havertz"you greeted with a laugh, jumping into his arms.
"Hi, little bug" you whispered, slipping into his embrace. "I almost didn't recognize you".
"It's only been eight months, Kai," you tapped his shoulder gently.
"It's been a long time since you left, bug". You smiled a little, nodding.
"Well, we're leaving now," your friend took your hand, leading you to the exit. Her boyfriend snorted at having to be the one to take all your stuff, and don't lie, it was kind of funny.
You arrived at his house after a trip full of questions and answers from both of you, especially Sophia, who wanted to know everything about your trip and your new life. You were very excited to see your friends and your parents again, who you missed like nobody else.
"Tomorrow is the game, will you come," asked Kai when they were having dinner. "I'll see my parents," you said, denying. "Maybe I'll see you later"
Sophia gave you a glimpse of complicity. Kai didn't know what had happened with Mason, you never told him and you really hoped Mason hadn't told him anything. You knew Kai was protective, he wouldn't choose you or Mason, but putting the pressure on him to know what happened between you wasn't something you wanted for their relationship, as Kai and Mason were good friends and work colleagues.
After dinner, Kai went upstairs to take a shower while you and Sophia stayed after dinner, drinking a last glass of wine.
Your friend didn't broach the subject and you were grateful she was so empathetic to you because coming back home had already upset your stomach and talking about Mason would make everything worse.
So you stayed up late chatting, trying to hide the urge to ask about him that you had. You'd only seen a couple of news stories about the club and that he was dating a famous girl, but you never inquired because you didn't want to go back to your past.
(...)
The next morning you woke up and had breakfast with your friends, still talking about so many things that had happened since you had returned. You were waiting for your mother's message that she would pick you up, but after a while, you were still waiting.
"We're leaving now," Sophia announced from the door of your room.
"See you later," you waved. "Try to score a goal for me," you squealed to Kai when he stuck his head out.
"I will," he said proudly, making you smile. -See you later, right?
You nodded, raising your hand to dismiss him. You went back to lie in bed waiting for news from your mother, so after a while you decided to call him.
"Honey!" she squealed happily.
"Hi mom, I'm here waiting for you for lunch" you said quickly.
"Oh, honey" she said somewhat disappointed. "Your father had forgotten we had a golf game and I didn't let you know."
"Really, Mom?" you snorted.
"Honey, we talked on video call yesterday and you'll be staying for almost two months. We'll have time to catch up and cuddle a lot" I commented amused.
You smiled as you heard your father's call from afar.
"It's okay, Mom" you agreed. "Call me when they're done."
"Peter, honey, T/n on the phone!" she shrieked towards your father. "He's about to play, see you honey!"
You laughed with a laugh as you heard your dad say something to your mom that you couldn't understand. You really missed your parents and it was true, you still had a lot of time to catch up. Going back to London had really made your head a mess, full of nostalgia.
You snorted, dropping the phone as you stared at the ceiling. Now what would you do? You closed your eyes trying to think.
I need you. I've always liked you.
Mason's words echoed in your head and the memories of that day came back to your mind.
You brought your hand to your chest as your heart began to pound. Don't think so hard, your subconscious said.
And just as you thought, you got up and grabbed your bag quickly, heading out to the street. You called for a cab and it didn't take you long to get to the city party. The streets were decorated in that tone blue you liked so much, people walking in them wearing club shirts, you could even read a few with your name on them.
Everything was just as you remembered.
You called Sophia and told her what had happened, so she quickly came for you at the entrance of the stadium.
You didn't even know why you had come. You just wanted to feel again what you had felt a long time ago. Your ears filled with the chorus of the stands at full volume, while the screams could be heard for miles. Your skin crawled as your eyes focused on the field, trying to find the one person you had come for.
That's when your eyes found him.
Number 19 in the center of the field.
You sighed settling into your seat as Sophia's hand took yours squeezing it, as your friend could see how you were somewhat distant from the new feeling.
The match was quite intense for both, hopefully the match would end with a victory for the blues. Your eyes hadn't stopped following number 19 since you had arrived, trying to meet his gaze but you knew he wouldn't look at you. He didn't even know you were back in London, not even that you were in the same stadium as him.
When the referee blew the final whistle, you stood up from your place, ready to go to the car to wait for your friends. Among the people you tried to walk, when a premonition echoed in your chest. Out of the corner of your eye you turned your head slightly, meeting those eyes for the first time.
Those deep black eyes staring back at you from the center of the court, recognizing you in the crowd. Mason stood static for a few moments and though you did too, you lowered your head to keep walking. The heart in your chest was beginning to pound as the urge to cry came over you.
You ended up in the aisles of the stadium on the verge of tachycardia for remembering what had happened that night. His lips on yours, his words, his touch. You hadn't felt anything like that since you left and you were sure you'd never feel it again, but you couldn't let him win this fight.
The hustle and bustle of the crowd began to die down as you moved deeper into the corridors, you picked up the phone to call your friend, trying to find your way out, you had forgotten how to escape this place. A jolt to your body made you stop, someone else had bumped into you as you were trying to read the exit signs.
"I'm sorry" apologized the other person.
And suddenly, you stopped breathing.
There it was. The one person who was capable of taking your breath away. The person you were most afraid to meet. Was the universe against you?
Why didn't you stop, why didn't you apologize and act like a normal person, why didn't your body seem to connect with your mind, why didn't your body seem to connect with your mind?
"Y/n..." he whispered.
A shiver ran down your spine.
Slowly you began to turn around, seeing him standing there in front of you. He was still wearing his team outfit, his hair damp and his face somewhat exhausted.
He looked so gorgeous.
"Hello, Mason" you greeted simply. You waited for a response but he didn't say anything else, he just stood static as he had a few moments ago.
"I have to go, it was nice to see you again" you forced yourself to smile a little, masking the ache in your chest.
All this time you thought you were over him but deep in your heart you knew, you could never forget Mason. Every day that passed you tried to move on, but leaving him that night hadn't been easy. And seeing him again wasn't either.
You turned away from your spot again, starting to walk slowly away from Mason. You were surprised to hear nothing more from him.
Why wasn't he saying anything? Wasn't he going to stop you? Had he given up on love?
Had he given up on you? Your heart shattered.
Maybe Mason had forgotten you, maybe he had found that person. He didn't love you anymore. Maybe he never had.
You had come back just for him.
You wanted to stop lying to yourself and your friends or family. You had come back to London just for Mason.
You wanted him back. But you lost him.
You were tired of running away from him and you wanted to tell him everything... but it was too late. Mason had forgotten you.
He had moved on.
You quickly turned to see him and your eyes filled with tears as you saw his back receding down the hallway.
Now it was he who was running away from you.
"Mason!" you screamed at the top of your lungs.
Please stop. You wanted to scream for him.
A tear spilled down your cheek when he wouldn't stop.
"Stop, Mason!" you begged again. "Please"
And when you least expected it, he stopped.
Your steps were giant as you walked toward him, charged in courage and bravery.
You weren't going to run away again. Head held high and heart pounding, you weren't going to let him go.
You reached Mason in a matter of seconds, who still had his back turned but as you sensed behind him, he gently spun around. His face was uneasy, his gaze dull, a sad grimace in his expression
"You won't say anything?" you asked.
Mason lifted his shoulders dejectedly.
"All right, I'll do the talking."
You didn't mind standing in the middle of the hallway cause you had so much to say. You wouldn't stand another minute with so much on your chest.
"I'm sorry" you started. "I never wanted to leave, Mason. But I had to" you said sure. "I couldn't stay when I didn't know what I felt or wanted but I know I hurt you and maybe you hate me and that's okay."
You sighed to find more courage than you already had.
"I should have called or even said something but I didn't know if what you had said that night was true, we were drunk and you had always played with me, I was scared..."
You loved Mason. You love Mason. More then anyone.
You had realized that since you had run away from him that day. While you were taking the flight, when you met your new friends, when you went to your new college, even when you were with other men. You had always loved him.
"I love you, Mason" you confessed to his bright gaze. "I know it's late, but i don't want to leave without telling you."
The words had come like a song from your mouth and now you felt the emptiness in your chest. But the pain was still there.
Mason hadn't said a word other than to look at you with his lost gaze and droopy eyes.
It's okay. You thought holding back tears, you didn't want a show in the middle of the halls of state.
You deserve it. You thought again.
Determined, you turned to, this time, leave the place for good.
But you couldn't.
The gentle touch of his warm hand stopped you by the forearm and memories took you back to that night.
That night that had changed everything.
You even went ahead of him and desperately your lips impacted with his, joining us in a perfect kiss. His lips felt just as you had imagined a million times when you were far away.
Soft, warm and delicious like the first time you had kissed them.
His large hands settled on your waist pulling you as close to his body as possible while yours embraced his muscular back, squeezing it as you felt the comfort of being in his arms again.
The rhythm of the kiss had gained intensity as the minutes passed, your lips seeking no rest as they needed each other more and more after so long. It was as if their bodies had become glued together from the electricity that coursed through them in their reconciliation kiss.
"Say that again" you asked as he did that night. "Say you can't let me go, Mason and i won't leave" you begged in a whisper remembering his words.
"I can't let you go, Y/n" he said against your lips. His forehead resting against yours as his nose nuzzled yours.
Because you didn't plan on leaving again. You knew the moment you saw Mason Mount again, you couldn't leave him.
And you were sure that this time, you would stay by his side.
PD: 2:30 in the morning and here i am writing for you. I hope you enjoy it, thanks for your support!!!!!

VIII.
Sumer fun in the sun (and a lil spice)
You join your best friend on a summer all expenses payed trip to spend some time on a fancy yacht in the Mediterranean sea. What you don't account for is her boyfriend's hot friend also being there.
Word Count : 2.6k
The Mediterranean sun burns hot, making the deck of the yacht smell of dry charred wood mixed with the salt from the sea filling the air. You walk out of the safe cool shade of the cabin hissing the moment your bare feet reach the burning surface of the deck. Your eyes scan the space for a comfortable seat, to read your book while catching some sun rays - to work on your tan. As you move you let yourself stretch the muscles of your body, still feeling the lingering feeling of last night, and the man who you spent the night with.
You get comfortable on one of the deck chairs and let yourself get lost in your book. Your mind wanders back to just a few hours ago, when you were engulfed in the touches of the man, his soft, laboured breaths in your ears. Your fingers touch the space where your collarbone meets your neck, where only hours ago he worshipped you like you were a goddess, only for it to now become a measly patch of soft, pillowy skin. The feeling of his strong hands on your hips - now only a memory. You shake your head trying to rid yourself of the memories - after all this is what you wanted. You asked for this when you let yourself give in to his smile and gorgeous eyes. “Good morning beautiful.” The sound of Mason’s voice brings you out of your thoughts.
“Hey you!” you smile shielding your eyes from the sun with your book.
“Did you sleep well?” he asks, sliding into the chair next to you, the warm summer breeze playing with his hair making you chuckle.
“Yeah pretty decent,” you flash a grin at him. “What about you? Had a good night?”
“Oh yeah me, Ben, Grealo and the girls stayed up playing beer-pong and shit… You should have stayed with us!”
“And have you fight for my attention?” you tease. “I had to give the girls and beer pong a fair chance.”
“You wish!” Mason laughs.
“It’s just because you and Sasha are boring old hags.” Ben’s voice ringing from behind you startles you.
“Who are you calling a hag, bro?!” you swat your book at him as he sits at the foot of your chair making Mason laugh loudly.
“No but for real,” Ben says, glaring at Mason. “It was really great! I’m glad we did this.”
You chuckle, about to say something when Mason interrupts you. “Kai! My boy!” he shouts wolf whistling “You absolute dog!”
You look over your shoulder to see Kai Havertz emerge with one of the instagram models the boys dragged along, by his side giggling about something he must have said. You thank the stars that you are wearing sunglasses so the others don’t see you roll your eyes.
“So that’s why you were not at beer pong last night!” Ben exclaims, wiggling his eyebrows.
The german shoots them a cheeky smile which makes your stomach churn into a knot. You glance at him, not meeting his eyes.
“Good morning,” he says, letting his palm graze your shoulder, making something bubble inside your chest.
“Hi Kai,” you say coldly “Sleep well?”
“Fantastic.” You don’t need to face him to know he is giving you a lazy half smile.
“Good to know.” You return your gaze to your book, trying to act unimpressed by the addition of an instagram girl at his side.
“How about you?” he asks.
“Decent, nothing to write home about.” You shrug and finally look at him expecting to see a reaction, but all you receive is a polite and friendly smile. You can’t lie, there is a certain part of you that feels hurt and angry at his coolness. You clench your jaw to not show any semblance of emotion.
“Anyways,” you bite back a reaction, not wanting to give him even an ounce of the satisfaction he just robbed you of, “I’m gonna leave you guys to catch up I need some water… See you later." You ignore the protests of your friends making your way back into the cabin. Truth be told you need to get a grip, away from Kai and his girl.
The coolness of the kitchen in contrast to the heat of the deck covers your skin in prickly goosebumps. You lean against one of the counters rubbing your face, a desperate attempt at trying to remove the heat from your cheeks. The quiet that surrounds you allows you to finally let out the breath you have been holding in for the last ten minutes. You open the tap and rub your hands under the running water as if trying to wash off the memory of his sweaty skin against your palms. You bite back tears of frustration at your own stupidity. You shut off the water bringing your cool hands to your face once again as if trying to cool off the mess of emotions bubbling behind your eyes and in your head. Memories of you and him come rushing back to you instantly. You bite back the sour taste of remembering how your limbs had been intertwined on this same counter not even a day earlier, the same one your lower back is currently pressed against. You can almost feel his body pinning you against the cool marble once again, his lips on yours telling you how hot and perfect you are. The slow rocking of the boat mimicking the way he would guide your body back and forth to feel better. You bite your lip remembering the feelings that he had made you experience, almost being able to map him out again just by standing here. You let your fingers trace the curves of your body the places he had touched, throwing your head back feeling pleasure creep up in your stomach again. As you slowly let your fingers run from your hip to your inner thigh, biting down your lip and closing your eyes you hum his name to yourself.
Suddenly you hear the sound giggling approach and you quickly straighten up pretending to be interested in the contents of the fruit basket, that you had already become familiar with when you knocked it over the night prior. Within seconds two girls appear around the corner. You have barely had time to talk to them as they have been circling the boys like fruit flies, although you recognize the tall brunette as the girl Kai had shown up with this morning.
You’ve agreed to come on this trip as Sasha’s friend, after Jack dragged her with him on his “big lads on tour summer break bonanza” or whatever they call it. You and Sasha have been friends from way back when Jack had barely broken through first team ranks and she was still an up and coming model, but since then you have been an inseparable duo. Sasha and you had always spent a girls holiday away together with your other friends, but this year Jack had practically begged his girlfriend to tag along and so she had dragged you along as well citing “What bad could happen on an all expenses paid holiday on a yacht with a couple of close friends?”. Then of course the close friends of your close friends had invited a few girls they had met and here you were, surrounded by a bunch of football players and instagram models. Of course you weren’t complaining as Sasha had made sure you were treated like a queen, besides you had already been pretty chummy with Ben due to social functions at Sasha and Jack's, and you and Mase had clicked instantly from day one. The boys had treated you like one of the gang quick enough, probably because you were Jack’s VIP for the time being. The only one who you had not instantly become friends with was Kai.
The two of you had spent the first few nights sharing glances and exchanging lingering touches disguised as something purely accidental. Then one of the days you had caught him watching you from the safe shadow of the cabin door, while you and Sasha were sunbathing on the front of the boat - the laser sharp focus of his blue eyes slowly untying the loose strings of your bikini bottoms making you feel your skin tingle with shivers that felt like pure fire. You had smiled at him, excusing yourself, saying you wanted to quickly give your mom a call. Once you made it inside you had pulled him into one of the bathrooms.
“What do you think you are doing?” you asked looking up at him, which was a huge mistake because the moment your eyes met you felt something in your stomach drop.
“I was just looking at the sea,” he smiled down at you a lazy grin on his face.
“Yeah sure that’s what you were doing,” you breathed feeling his fingers slide up and down your side.
“You didn’t like it?” he asked quietly as he tugged at the string and it came undone.
“I never said I didn’t like it.” You smiled letting your nails slowly run down his arms feeling him flex under your touch. “Kai.”
“I like it when you say my name like that.” His lips were on your neck.
“Like what?” you pressed against him feeling him against your stomach, “Kai.”“You accent,” his breathing was unsteady. “Say it again.”
“Kai,” you purred, “please?”
He didn’t answer, just gripped you so your legs were around his waist within seconds and his mouth was roaming every inch he could get to. Your voice hoarse from whispering his name over and over again by the end of it. And then you would move along without a second thought, two ships in the night, a relationship built only on meetings in secret when it was convenient, leaving both of you panting and your heads spinning. And then you would always go back to Sasha and watch Kai have other girls all over him. But it was okay because you would never fall asleep next to him, in his arms. You never let it get that intimate. Until last night.
“Eyo!” Sasha's waving hand in front of your face brings you out of your daydream. “You here?”
“Yeah,” you blush, unaware how long you've been zoned out looking at the fruit basket. “Just zoned out.”
“You okay?” Her face full of concern.
“Yeah… just got a bit hot in the sun I think," you brush it off. You hate lying to your best friend, but you don't know how to tell her the truth. You don't want to admit spending the night with Kai has made your head all a mess. And you don't want to admit that seeing him with the girl just a pair of hours after you were the one curled against him practically ripped your heart out.
“Oh babe didn't you wear a hat?” she asks, her voice sounding dangerously close to that of a mother hen.
“Yeah love,” you say “I went out to read this morning and I think I forgot to get some water, that's why I'm in here."
“You feeling better?” her eyes are still full of worry.
“Yes!” You smile. “I was actually heading back outside! Let's go relax and enjoy some fresh air!”
The suggestion seems to take away all the worry from her big doey eyes and replaces her face with excitement. Seeing her happy like this momentarily takes away all the worries plaguing you for a moment.
The two of you make your way back to the deck where everyone is already celebrating the holidays. You see Ben chatting up a leggy redhead a little bit away while Mason and Jack are having what you would best describe as an idiot-off by the edge of the boat, but judging by the group of girls around it's very entertaining. The only person you cannot seem to get your eyes on is Kai. You breathe out a sigh of relief at the realisation that you can avoid the german.
Your joy however soon ends when you see movement at the end of the boat. Soon Kai's body appears on the ladder, water dripping from his black hair. Your eyes follow the droplets as they map out the smooth curves and angles of his perfectly chiselled chest and then move lower down to his abdomen. The water making his shorts heavy, sticking low on his hips. You bite your cheek trying to keep your eyes off his hips, you move to look at the way the veins pop on his forearms where he grips the ladder, every muscle bulging as he moves. By the time you realise you are staring and Sasha's been talking, it's too late. You meet Kai's eyes and you feel your breath hitch at the way droplets cling to his lashes.
“I'll be right back, Sash,” you panic, all you know is you need to get away before the tears in your eyes spill. “I'll run and get a hat."
“Okay,” she smiles, “I'll go make sure Jack doesn't get hurt with this wrestling match-on-a-ledge.”
“Okay see you in a few.” You pray she didn't pick up on the way your voice broke at the end of the sentence.
You practically run to your bedroom praying no one will bump into you, see the tears currently adorning your cheeks. You reach the room and fall into the bed gasping for air between sobs. Why does this man have such an impact on you and your feelings. Why couldn't you be like other girls and let yourself enjoy a summer-holiday-no-strings-attached moment like other girls had always done?
You hear the door open and turn around expecting to see Sasha, already trying to come up with an excuse she would believe, but instead you are met by his ocean blue eyes. The eyes that make you feel like every inch of your body is made out of poison, poison that only he can suck out and make you feel okay again.
“Hey I- Are you crying?” He looks at you concerned, shutting the door behind him.
“What do you want?” Your words come out harsher than you intended, but good, he deserves it.
“I wanted to talk!” His defences kick in.
“Talk about what? Or do you mean - quick blowjob?” Your voice is soaked with resentment and anger as you wipe tears from your cheeks.
“What has gotten into you?” he asks, his face contorting with anger or is it disgust? You don't reply, only watch him from where you are sitting in your bed.
“You've barely talked to me today. I almost feel like you are avoiding me.” He says.
“Oh you noticed I'm not in a mood to talk to you?” You know you have no right to be this way but you need to get the hurt out, before it tears you apart. “Thought you were busy with the model girl… the one you must have fucked after I left your bed.”
“Why are you bringing her up? You jealous or something?” He spits in anger. “What do you want from me?”
You don't reply but look away, shame clouds your features, tears threaten to spill again. The clump in your throat hurts against your windpipe.
“At first I wanted you to just fuck me,” you confess still not meeting his eyes, digging your nails into your own shoulders “but then I got greedy… and wanted you to love me. I wanted to be yours and no one else's.”
Silence falls across the room. You finally meet his eyes, trying to get a read on his emotions.

the beach / kai havertz x reader.
🌀 summary: you’re having a bad night but your boyfriend just knows how to make everything better.
🌀 yap!: double post! reader isnt implied as anything so imagine her as you wish! based on the song by giveon my favee. dedicated to my lover @ar4ujos because she is the ceo of kaisenal<3. also to the girliess @szalovebot , @halfwayhearted , &&. @planetpedri. i love you 💙
“Come on… pick up,” you sighed as the phone rang. You were calling your boyfriend, needing a support system after an altercation with your annoying coworker. Kai was always the person you went to no matter what. In your defense, he made it clear that he would always support you and listen whenever you needed to talk. He was a good guy, and your year long relationship proved so.
“Hello?” His voice sounded from the other line.
“Hey, do you have time?” You asked him, making sure he wasn’t busy first.
“Of course I have time for you, baby. What’s up?” His response got a smile out of you, already making what just happened seem like a distant memory.
You explained to him about how your coworker wasn’t doing the right job, inevitably ruining what you had already done. He had the nerve to argue with you about it, even though he was wrong. “I’m just kind if stressed out right now because I only have thirty minutes to fix it.”
“Hm,” Kai replied. He said that whenever he was thinking, so you knew he was coming up with a response. “Okay, hear me out. Make him do it and complain to your boss about him. This isn’t the first time he’s fucked things up. Just don’t let it ruin your day.”
You replied with a hint of playfulness in your tone, “I fear it already has.”
“Okay, I’ll make it better. What are you doing after work?”
“Going home. Why?”
Kai responded, “Just curious. I’ve gotta go, I have training. But I’ll talk to you later, okay?”
“Okay, bye, I love you.”
“I love you.”
You got home at around 5:30, showering immediately and getting ready to relax. As 6 p.m. hit, you got a text from your boyfriend.
As promised, Kai arrived at 7:28 on the dot. You didn’t know how he did it, but it was funny nonetheless. He came to your doorstep to greet you, you opening the door to a bouquet of roses.
“You look beautiful, baby,” Kai smiled, wrapping his arms around your waist and locking you in a warm embrace, still being careful not to crush the flowers. You melted into his touch, throwing your arms around him.
“Thank you, handsome,” you smiled back, holding him out with your arms and taking his outfit in. “This gave me absolutely no hint as to where we’re going, but I love it.”
“You might wanna change your shoes,” he completely disregarded what you said, grabbing your hand and bringing you inside. You thought your heels complimented your pink ruffled ‘jellyfish’ dress, but maybe not then.
“Still no hint?” You asked one more time, hoping that he’d give up a tiny detail.
“Unfortunately no. You should wear your sandals, though. That’s your hint,” he shrugged, finding a vase to put the bouquet in.
After a thirty minute drive, you finally arrived to your destination—the beach. Of course it was night time, but you had always told him that no matter the time of day, the beach would always make you happy. He clearly remembered this conversation, bringing it up as he pulled into a parking spot.
“Flowers, the beach, what’s next?” You inquired with a smile, being unable to hide your excitement for the night.
“Just wait and see.”
He walked you to a specific spot hand in hand, leading you to a picnic blanket set with food, wine, and a candle on it. It was surrounded by rose petals and accompanied with a small speaker softly playing romantic music. “I had this guy bring the food out here like ten minutes ago so I’m hoping it’s not cold.”
“Kai…” you trailed off, feeling overwhelmed with adoration. “This is so sweet, I love you.” You wrapped your arms around him, hugging him tightly.
He smiled and hugged you back, his arms making a way to your waist. “I love you. Okay, let’s sit.” He sat on the blanket, bringing you down with him.
The candle continued to burn and the music still sounded in the background under your voices and satisfied comments on the meal.
“Did I tell you you look beautiful?” Kai looked over at you with a bright smile. He was clearly proud of what he had done and even prouder that it hadn’t failed to brighten your day.
“Yes, you did,” you chuckled. “How did you plan all of this in two hours? I thought you had training.”
“A little white lie never hurt anybody,” Kai replied with a sly smirk. You smiled in response, not at all surprised by his sneaky antics.
You looked over at the water, sighing with endearment. You stared off into the ocean, the smell and feeling of it all trapping you. Kai pulled you out, scooting closer to you and wrapping his arm around you.
“Pretty, isn’t it?” He said softly, his words barely above a whisper.
“Yeah,” you responded, your voice reaching his volume.
He looked at you, not catching your eye until he said, “It’s got nothing on you, though.”
“Is that so?”
“If I had to choose between you or the ocean, I’d pick you,” he gave you a kiss on the too of your head. He added, “Never really liked sand anyway.”
You giggled, then lay your head on his shoulder. “Thank you for tonight, Kai. Really, I don’t even know how you did it.”
“I told you earlier I was going to make your day better.”
“That you did.”

hair too long / kai havertz
summary: when your boyfriend comes back home after training, he doesn't know why you're acting strange all of the sudden.
wc: 880 words
author's note: referencing a song by the vamps bc i didn't know what to title this. first time writing for kai jaksjsj kinda nervous ngl. had a bit of writers block lately so that's why it's short 😭 dedicated to @oh-saints bc they're the devil in my shoulder convincing me to not let the idea go. hope you like it either way 🫡
it was fairly early to start on with your day, so that's why you were still laying on the bed, too lazy to actually get up and start ticking things off your to-do list. you were about to get up to make breakfast, after becoming quickly bored of your social media feeds, until, a video with your boyfriend's face graced your screen. you smiled at the chance of seeing him, even if you had seen him through sleep filled eyes before his departure to train. he was about to come home either way, but you still missed his presence in the house, and hearing his voice always made you feel giggly inside: even after all this time together.
"oh, i need to go to the barber again," kai joked when the video started, passing his fingers through his dark wavy locks to rearrange his hair to look good for the camera. he then continued talking about his last goal scored, gushing about enzo, amazed at how easily he seemed to have gotten the ball onto his feet: so easy that your boyfriend had initially thought that he was offside.
truth is, you weren't really listening after he had joked about cutting his hair. you liked his current hairstyle too much, longer than the last few months when he had kept it rather buzzed. it's not that you disliked it before, because to you, he was handsome either way, but you preferred it a tad bit longer: enough to run your fingers through his locks, gently caressing them.
the thought almost didn't leave your mind during the morning, thinking about ways you could convince him of keeping this hairstyles a bit longer while you got through the things in your list. you knew that the main reason he didn't leave his hair get this long was to keep things practical and avoid it from annoying him during the games, but you were hopeful that you could find a middle ground.
eventually, your boyfriend came back home, and although you were dying to be on his arms again, you tried to play it off when he started to wander through your shared home, looking for you. it didn't take long for him to find you, already drawn to the kitchen by the noises that the utensils you were making lunch with made.
kai got a hold of your figure, embracing you from behind while nestling his face onto the crook of your neck, leaving a little kiss there that made you squirm under his touch. "what's wrong?," he said, his characteristic accent lacing through his words. he was tilting his head slightly, confusion clear in his features when you didn't turn your head to give him a proper kiss. he made you turn around, gripping your hips a little bit tighter, and trying to find your gaze to see what had gone wrong while he was at cobham. "you don't love me?" you asked seriously, keeping the smirk from forming on your lips. if he got to see even a glimpse of your smile, your lie won't be believable, and you wanted to make him suffer, even if it was just for a little while.
"why are you asking that, liebling?," kai asked, confused about your change in demeanor. he remembered you kissing him goodbye before he went to training, and everything seemed to be fine between you two. "of course i do," he reassured, kissing your forehead lovingly. eventually, you decided to put him out of his misery, only when he lifted his eyebrows in question when you weren't emitting any sound. the smile betrayed you at the end, before your lips confessed the truth. "you tell me, mr. 'i need to go to the barber again'".
kai tilted his head back, laughing in disbelief at your antics. "you like it like this, then?" he asked, one hand departing from your figure to get his fingers through his hair, at which you smiled while nodding. "yeah, it makes you look cute," you pointed out, scrunching your nose while smiling cutely at him. he grinned at your reaction, planting a little kiss on your nose. the words seemed to have sink in a bit after, because when he lifted his head back up he changed his soft expression from before. "cute?" he frowned, clearly dissatisfied with your answer. "i was expecting hot, handsome, not cute".
smirking, you nonchalantly commented, "well, i'm sure it would be hot if i get to pull it when you're between my legs, you know?". kai seemed to get your hint, dropping his head back down to capture your lips into a kiss. it was slow and soft at first, confirming the love he had for you, even if he knew your doubts were only for the joke. eventually, your hands went from his neck to the top of his head, slightly tugging on his hair. he intensified the kiss then, deepening it and biting your lower lip eliciting a moan to fall from your lips. "do you always have these dirty thoughts when i'm not here, schatzi?".
"why don't you figure it out?" you smiled devilishly, and he gripped your waist a little bit tighter before starting to step backwards until you reached your bedroom door.

any kind of life - k. havertz
pairing: kai havertz x female!reader | a, f | ex-lovers, second chance | wc: 3,084 | warnings: none | note: slightly inspired by “any kind of life - lewis capaldi” | 🖊: ella
welcome post!
In that small moment between songs, watching guests on the dance floor, Kai Havertz felt like a miserable man. Although, he had more reasons to feel glad with his own life than to feel okay with this kind of unhappiness. His career was at its peak; he got the ideal apartment in the neighborhood he wanted, his mother finally moved in closer to his sister, who recently gave birth. Small things that were slowly coming together.
Still, it seemed like something was missing. The incessant emptiness was constantly present during his lonely nights, Kai lost count of how many times he went to sleep staring at the ceiling of his bedroom, restless body rolling side to side on his bed. It was too big for just one body, but he never went for another company, because no one would ever replace yours. What’s the point of having his life together like he wished but not having you? Didn’t make any sense.
“So…” A voice brought him back from his own thoughts. Kai turned around to find one of his friends holding a glass of wine, staring at him with a mix of emotions that he didn’t quite get. “How long are you going to stand there?”
Kai took a sip of his own drink, a cold alcohol-free lemonade, since he didn’t feel like getting drunk, even if he had real reasons for that.
“What are you talking about?”
The other man, known as Ben Chilwell, his friend and co-worker, laughed. Ben pointed discreetly to the dance floor, specifically to a woman. He didn’t need to explain much about you, because Kai knew. In fact, every guest in that party was aware of your relationship and how it ended. You had a lot of friends in common.
Kai shrugged.
“I’ve got no choice but to stand here,” he answered.
Ben pushed him with his shoulder. Kai gave the older man a dirty look.
“Don’t be so dumb, you dumb man,” he nagged. “It’s about time you take a step forward. Did you know she’s back in London?”
“For now?”
“No,” Ben said, shaking his head. “For good.”
Kai gulped with the information. His heart missed a beat, making him hold his glass a little tighter, affected by the news. Around him, people were laughing, he could hear the music echoing all over the place. You were laughing about something, joined by two kids about ten years old — they were relatives of the bride. It was the first time he saw you laughing after a while with no contact at all. The wedding brought you together because of your mutual friends, yet he felt stuck in the memory of when he watched you walk in as one of the bridesmaids about an hour ago.
At first, you didn’t notice him. You were there with your glowing smile, eyes bright with tears, a sky blue dress covering your whole body, matching his eyes. When you finally noticed him, your smile froze, your steps faltered; your heart felt like it would go out of your mouth at any second. Your hands feeling sweaty and tingly at the same time.
In that moment, both of you got locked in each other’s eyes, neither having the courage to look away. It made the two of you realize that no feeling had been gone. You got caught by a foolish hope when you saw his smile growing bigger, his blue eyes staring at you like it was the first time he ever saw you. Not only that, but as if it was the first time he understood you’d be his.
“Kai?” Ben called.
Kai blinked a few times, gulped and turned to his friend.
“How do you know that?”
Ben shrugged.
“She told me,” he replied. “To be honest, she told Mount, but you know how much of a gossiper he is, so…”
That was supposed to be a joke, but Havertz didn’t laugh. He was still processing the news and his lemonade didn’t seem ideal anymore. He wished he wasn’t sober to deal with that, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be nice to get the news while being drunk.
Two years. Two years later, you were back.
The break up wasn’t chaotic. It wasn’t scandalous nor resentful. You didn’t break up because you stopped loving each other, it wasn’t for common reasons such as jealousy or anything. You broke up because you two had different purposes and goals in your individual careers. You were accepted into Doctors Without Borders, Kai was about to move to another city for work. Both of you didn’t believe in long distance relationships and were aware that love couldn’t save everything.
You and Kai broke up thinking it’d be great for both sides, even if two years later none of you had forgotten the other for one single night. That’s why Kai Havertz considered himself an unhappy man, even though every aspect of his life was doing well. He didn’t feel whole without you.
“I thought she would stay there a bit longer,” Kai said, his german accent showing up stronger.
Ben sighed and watched you, who had stopped dancing and were now at the table of sweets with the kids. He wondered if he should tell Kai what he knew, but well, why not? He watched his friend trying to get over this relationship for two years, always avoiding meeting other women, or even dating, choosing to face one more lonely night in that cold apartment. On the other hand, Mason was the one who watched you feeling satisfied with her career, but a failure in your personal life.
“She finished the mission,” Ben answered. “She had the option of staying a little longer, of course, but Mason said she didn’t want to. Seems like she wasn’t feeling really happy, that’s why she decided to come back to explore other options, something like that.”
The german nodded. He took the chance to get rid of his — now cold and abandoned — drink when a waiter passed by. Kai rubbed his face and gulped, thinking of every text he typed but didn’t send. He never had the courage to tell you how much he missed you, how much he still loved you and how his life felt incomplete without the glow of your eyes or your melodic laugh.
You, on the other hand, tried to call him a lot of times, but the connection would never complete, since the mobile coverage was always terrible where you were. Sometimes, you were thankful for it, you wouldn’t know what to say if he picked up, to be honest. When the connection succeeded, you’d just text Mason and your parents.
And Mason didn’t talk about it. He’d never tell you anything about Havertz, unless you asked. He’d never tell Havertz anything about you as well, unless he asked.
“Havertz?” Ben called, once more. Kai sighed and turned to him. “You should take her for a dance.”
The german got shaken up by the idea. He wasn’t ready enough to say a simple “Hi”, let alone take you for a dance. He let out a nervous laugh, shaking his head.
“Don’t think it’s a good idea, man,” he admitted.
Ben smiled. He just smiled, then took another sip of his red wine. His body language was of someone who was up to something.
“In fact, it’s a great idea.”
He pointed to where you were, and when Kai followed, he saw Mason getting the kids to take pictures with the newlyweds. You were, finally, alone. Mason glanced at the men, displayed his best grin and winked to them before turning his attention back to the kids. Kai answered with a confused frown, then felt Ben giving his left shoulder a light tap.
“Go get your girl,” he whispered and left.
Kai muttered a cuss, fixed his suit, checked if his hair was in place and, at last, let loose with a long sigh. It was ridiculous the way he was feeling nervous before the chance of talking to you — well, after not hearing your voice for two years. His stomach jumped with the idea of watching your smile from so close and his fingers became restless to touch a bit of your skin.
You didn’t leave your table, letting the kids go with Mason and took the opportunity to enjoy the sweets. You got rid of your heels, feeling lighter without them. Dancing was still your favorite thing, but two kids jumping around all the time wore you out two times faster; you weren’t that familiar with high heels since you moved away to be part of humanitarian aid, so your feet hurt easier now.
“Hi.”
You were about to try out a soft looking sweet when you heard his voice. This time, it didn’t come from a dream, but reality, for real. You didn’t need to turn around to be sure it was him right there, behind you. It was his voice and his perfume, always unmistakable. Kai waited, and while he did, he noticed your bare feet, high reels set aside. He almost laughed at the scene, but that’s how you were.
You cleaned the sugar on your fingertips and got up. You gasped lightly when you faced him; his blue eyes so close made your heart skip a beat, but you didn’t mind. No matter how many times you saw him, you never got used to the overwhelming emotions that consumed you.
“Kai,” you whispered, your voice wavering.
“Y/N.”
The smile he gave you brought back the butterflies, just as a teenager realizing her first crush. Still, the sound of your name on his voice made you crack a genuine smile. It was like no time had passed for either of you.
“You look stunning,” he pointed to your dress.
“Oh, yeah.” You looked down at your own dress and touched the fabric with both hands. Your strands of hair that got loose from the braid were falling over your face. You turned to him again. “Thank you. You look just as gorgeous.”
“I’d say I’ve always been, but…” he joked, shrugging.
You laughed. You stared at each other’s eyes for a moment, no words being said, and even with music playing in the background, you couldn’t care less. It was completely silent, except for your own heartbeat ringing in your ears. Without much thought, you impulsively threw yourself on his arms for a hug; with your arms wrapped around his neck, you felt relief after so long, causing your body to instantly relax against his.
Surprised, Kai didn’t react immediately. He held you by instinct, his hands on your waist. When he finally realized what was going on, what you just had done, he hugged you back. The first thing he did was inhale your perfume, wondering if it was still the same one — it was. A delicate lavender fragrance, reminiscing him of a garden full of flowers, which suited you perfectly.
Your skin was still as hot as the sunlight. You used to say that, in that sense, he had the cold contrast of the light. You were fit for each other.
“Missed you,” you confessed.
Kai breathed that statement. He’d wished to hear that for so long that it didn’t sound real. It sounded like his mind was playing tricks on him, but his touch on your skin made him understand it was real. You were right there, he was holding you. Kai didn’t even mind you could feel his racing heartbeats.
“Missed you a lot more,” he muttered back.
You smiled, even if he couldn’t see it. You could stay there for hours in his arms, didn’t feel the slightest need to let go. In that moment, oblivious to the eyes watching you, both felt like they were free of any emptiness. That hug fulfilled everything.
You stepped back, licking your lips. Kai wasn’t able to take his hands off your waist, so you didn’t move that much. Your bodies were still very close, a silent exchange of looks, irises burning with strong feelings, lips glowing with excitement, uneven heartbeats, hands tingling for a more intimate touch.
How’s that possible? Two years have passed and you still felt like you were his.
“Please.” He held up a hand, the other still on your waist. “Would you like to dance?”
That made you look at your own feet.
“I’m barefoot.”
Kai laughed. The sound of his laugh sent waves of serotonin to your brain. You took his hand so it wouldn’t be hanging in the air, then had to hold your breath when you felt an electrical surge through your body after entwining your fingers with his. It felt like falling in love again, despite already being in love. Too late, you watched him take his own shoes, keeping the black socks. You shook your head and squeezed his fingers.
“Kai!”
He seemed unbothered.
“We’re even,” he said, smirking. “Can we go?”
Covering your mouth with your free hand, you giggled. Shaking your head in shock, you still followed him. Both barefoot, you joined the people on the dance floor, ignoring the prying eyes. Another song started playing, a romantic one, so you went for a spot in the middle. Your hands wrapped around his shoulders, his hands firmly on your waist.
Starting with slow steps, you didn’t break eye contact once. On the other side of the room, Ben and Mason watched their friends dancing like there was no one else but them in the world. Mason believed they still had a chance, they just had to admit that to each other. He was tired of seeing his best friend miserable, resenting the future she would never have with the only man she had loved — the only one she kept on loving, even from afar.
“I learned about your new contract,” you started, feeling the need to say something, anything, although the quietness didn’t bother you. “Congrats.”
“Mason gossiped to you?”
“No,” you replied. “Instagram.”
He laughed.
He used to be active enough in that network specifically, so he ended up giving the news there; like the contract closure with a new club, for instance. He thought it was possible that you’d see it, although he wasn’t quite hopeful, since you barely showed up online with the limited access to the internet where you were living.
“I also learned that you’re back in London,” Kai said, noticing your smile faltering a bit, but you kept your posture.
“Yeah, I…” You sighed, biting your lip. “I think I finished my mission.”
You carried on with the slow dance. You took in that moment, trying to hold on so it wouldn’t vanish. All your feelings were still there; being in his arms felt so right that you didn’t know how you managed to stay away from him for so long.
“And how was it for you?” Kai asked, genuinely interested to know more.
You thought about it. He made you do a little turn, then when you were back into his arms, you answered:
“Awesome and bad at the same time. I saw a lot of things I wish I hadn’t and that I’ll never forget. On the other hand, I also learned a lot of things that wouldn’t be possible in a club or a hospital. Somehow, it was a quite unique experience.”
Kai couldn’t help admiring the amazed expression on your face while you talked about it. Leaving you was the hardest thing he’d ever done, but at the same time, it was the best.
“What are your plans now?”
You weren’t able to answer immediately. Looking over Kai’s shoulder, you saw Mason and Ben with the kids. The first one caught your eyes and sent you an encouraging smile, to which you returned the same.
“I don’t know.”
The german caressed your bare back, sending shivers through your body. You smiled, almost feeling your breathing trying to betray you after the knowledge of still loving him so much that made you want to try again. He wasn’t acting like he had forgotten you, quite the opposite. The smile, the racing heartbeat you could feel through his chest over the suit, the touch of intimacy. All of him suggested that he wasn’t able to move on without you as well.
When the song ended, neither of you let go.
“I was an idiot,” Kai muttered.
You got surprised and moved your face away just to frown at him.
“What?”
“I was an idiot to let you go,” he explained. “I’m not saying that I should’ve stopped you from going after your dream, I’m just saying that I shouldn’t have let you go without knowing…” He paused to take a deep breath. “Without knowing that I don’t want any kind of life without you here, Y/N.”
You opened your mouth to say something, but nothing came out. Instead, you did what you dreamed of doing for a while, whenever you went to sleep in that cold lonely bed every night. You brushed your lips against his, no kissing happening at first. Just a slight brush. Lips touching one another, bodies hugging, the empty dance floor watching you. Another song started, but no one bothered to dance.
Finally, Kai moved his lips and kissed you slowly. It didn’t last long, until you moved away with a smile on your face, eyes bright with a genuine hope. For God’s sake, you also didn’t want any kind of life without that man by your side.
He forgot to add sugar and milk to his coffee every morning, never enjoyed binge-watching scary movies and always slept in the middle of a rom-com. Every weekend, he left a new book over your bedside table, nourishing your reading habit and your love for new and unknown books. He liked to wake you up with kisses all over your face and always beat you on FIFA.
“What are you doing now, Kai?”
The german opened the prettiest smile and touched your cheek with his thumb, the answer on the tip of his tongue, as if he always knew what he wanted to do. He grabbed the moment and pushed away the emptiness he felt for almost two years. Now that he was aware how complete he felt with you, there was only one answer to be said.
“What I should have done from the start, Y/N,” he states. “I’ll never give you up.”
