ok but the question is not even how much kaeya actually knows, but how much hoyo is actually retconning

bc like if we’re going by watsonian, in-universe perspective, no fucking way kaeya knows nothing about khaenriah except his last name. like no way. the line about “nothing left, but sinners”, with the current reveal about “Sinner”??? come ooon. the hidden strife letters from his bio dad, casually referencing that Alberich is the bloodline that picked up pieces of the fallen kingdom and the fallen royal? the line about if you have trouble with abyss order, tell him. hello. more obscure hint, like the owl of dragonspine, that connects to nation eradicated by celestia, whose survivors fled to what is hinted was khaenriah. etc etc

from doyalist perspective, it’s possible that they first planned to have him be in the know and just like used him to drop the lore hints bc he was their only direct connection to khaenriah, but later they changed their minds, which like. makes sense. i think they always planned that kaeya didn’t know his purpose, hence mona’s line about him thinking he made a  clean break, but i DO think he was supposed to know about abyss order heritage. 

the question is, is he lying in game or hoyo decided to take a turn and covering for their earlier decisions

This isn’t just Genshin, but I think I also notice PARENT or MENTOR figures in particular get criticized harshly sometimes, in what looks to me like a pattern. My guess is folks projecting their own issues with their parents. Which I personally understand, but uh lmao hc isn’t canon. Personally I think Crepus tried his best, but he probably had a bit of baggage that meant he had flaws. Sideeyes his delusion. But overall he probably earnestly loved Kaeya and Diluc as much as he could. It’d be nice if we got to know more about him, but getting personal details from Diluc and Kaeya is like pulling teeth.

I'm not gonna talk about the projecting part.

But I personally usually see Crepus and Kaeya's bio dad to be in the same boat sometimes. Crepus I go easier on cause we have some evidence of how he loved his boys and how much they loved him.

Kaeya's father is a little more difficult and yet sooo?? Easy to see? What we know of him comes from the perspective of a scornful child who grew up with this single and stagnant view of his father

But yeah, you're right. Getting anything about their dads from those two is,,, basically next to impossible because the daddy issues run DEEP

if Pierro ever goes to Mondstadt, he’s fucking dead. Not because he’s the first of the harbingers or anything, but because everybody will see him and assume he’s Kaeya’s bio-dad who abandoned him and they’ll kill him on sight. They like Kaeya, so seeing the asswipe who just fucking left him??? Kill. Pierro might have been able to survive the cataclysm but he cannot survive a united Mondstadt which unilaterally agreed to go apeshit in service of killing the guy who neglected their Cavalry Captain. If Pierro is capable of death, that man is dying.

Ok so I actually had this dream a while back but I never shared it so I figured I would cuz I feel like itd make a cool fic (I'll leave out some details cuz at one point it went from genshin to FMAB but whatever)

Anyways so I had this dream where kaeya's dad and a bunch of people from khaneria had escaped to the surface, but not like in an "evil plan ready to destroy teyvat" sort of way but just like escaping the confines. Anyways so Kaeya sees his dad, and somehow his dad managed to have 2 more kids. Now unlike kaeya the kid raised as a spy n shit, kaeyas dad takes care of them. Then kaeya calls him by an affectionate term he used as a kid and his dad slapped him.

That's when it started turning into an FMAB situation so I'll leave it there but yee.

Like if I were to turn this into a fic I'd have Diluc spying on kaeyas convo with his dad then have kaeya just spiral downwards cuz his step dad dead, his bro dont like him, then his bio dad dont care no more. I'd probably have diluc try to say something comforting to kaeya but also mostly berating his dad which sets kaeya off since he dont think diluc care no more in shit (I'd probably make them fight inside Angel's share). Then I'd end it with a big ragbros hug n shit. Badda bing, badda boom the end.

People that are too smart in different fields/ways often are at each other's neck.

Kaeya's father is political smart, I think, Rhine is science smart. I don't think they'd get along at all. Science smart means looking for the truth and knowledge at all times vs politics smart involves a whole lot of lying.

Also they are both two people who DESPERTATELY need some sort of psychiatric/psychological help. No offence, they just do.

They met in uni and hated each other. Had insane beef with each other for no reason at all. Slapped the fuck out of each other on multiple occasions. One time they were caught trying to fling each other off a window. No reason. Just a lot of anger.

They only agree to be civil after their kids start taking a liking to each other. Because at least both of them are Khaenri'ahn and from important families EVEN IF IT'S THAT DAMN ALBERICH/RHINEDOTTIR!

It's not like Kaeya's father has lots of alternatives. Dain is there but he hates Dain more than the idea of Rhine being his son's mother-in-law. Because Dain's a traitor, Rhine may be a person he fundamentally disagrees with but at least she's someone that cares about Khaneri'ah as much as him.

hi, welcome to my headcanon about their little immediate family situation (ignore that I forgot to add Jean, she’s roughly a smidge taller than Kaeya we love a tall queen)

These are just my headcanons, but:

-we obviously have older brother figure Albedo. He’s our certified older brother that looks tired but can pull two consecutive all nighters. A couple grey hairs, tired eyes, dark circles? Absolutely. Also? Short king, iconic. He would fight Celestia hands down for Klee. Is the type of person to let Klee figure out stuff on her own, then help when she asks.

(Evil!Albedo and Flower!Albedo have tired eyes, but lack the grey hairs and dark circles)

-Klee!! Clueless younger sister figure, she’s just here to have fun and cause chaos, we know this. She doesn’t mean to cause so much trouble, it just happens. Kaeya’s handmade notes on how to evade trouble are well read and the paper has definitely seen better days.

-Sucrose is giving middle child/babysitter. We forget she’s here sometimes, but she’s reliable and likes showing Klee what she’s working on. She just keeps to her bio projects and zones in while Klee is watching. “Wait, Klee, don’t touch that. That flower is the control subject. See, these ones have been modified by—“.

-Older sister Mona. After the quest with her and Klee, Mona hangs around Albedo to keep an eye on her subtly while discussing astrology and alchemy. Other than Kaeya, she’s the most qualified to watch this kid (please give her money before she takes Klee out for lunch). Lowkey tries to impress Klee with her astrology skills, she wants to be her the favorite sibling figure.

-Kaeya is actually Klee’s favorite uncle, thank you very much. She loves all the knights, but Kaeya? He has her back at the drop of a hat. Jeans coming? Hide behind me. You want treasure? You can’t tell anyone… but I have this treasure map. Hangs around Albedo constantly, Klee is always wanting his attention so he can make Albedo take a break and play.

-Jean is a wonderful aunt figure. I’d say mother figure, but Alice actually isn’t replaceable in Klee’s eyes, that’s her mom, no one else holds a candle to her. That said, Jean is more than happy to be her favorite auntie. Yeah, she’s the enforcer and ‘bad cop’ to Kaeya’s ‘good cop’, but Klee doesn’t mind and Jean knows it. Let’s Klee play and design new Jumpy Dumpties draw in her office when she’s working. Absolutely thanks everyone else for watching Klee when she can’t. One big found family <3

-Let’s be real, all of Mondstadt is looking after Klee, but this is her immediate family after Alice and her dad. Also, the traveler is definitely that family friend/relative that comes in for holidays (events), randomly and drops gifts and mora on Klee, then dips again after a couple days.

My home city in Natlan is something i scripted in

My main friend group consists of: yoimiya, hu tao, venti, wanderer, ningguang, beidou, diluc, kaeya, rosaria, navia, fischl, albedo, layla, faruzan, and myself

Primogems are actually used in jewelry to symbolize romantic interest!

Parents sometimes make heirlooms out of their primogem jewelry! Not exactly common because they're not exactly numerous in number

Natlan is a lively place with lots of art and the 'war' is moreso in fighting competitions between tribes/villages

Tighnari doesn't handle spices well and can smell them from a mile away so you have to make his food with special spices made for his species or you have to use only a pinch of anything spice related

Cyno has good jokes but most are simply lost in translation

Venti is touchy with some friends but is usually simply playful with people

Kaeya has trauma and baggage but hides it rather well from those who don't know him...people will try to sleep with him sometimes but end up realizing they cannot handle what comes with his love

Donna is known to diluc...he just avoids her and ignores her weirdness

Donna can be sweet but she makes my guys and gals uncomfy sometimes

My mother is an idol from fontaine

My father is a hunter and mechanic from natlan

My brother is a mechanic like our dad and he made me a music box based on our parents love story

My bio parents were involved with the moon sisters

My bio mom and aunt are part of the hexenzierkl

Alice (klee's mom) tried to 'adopt' me like she tried to 'adopt' diluc and albedo

I can tell albedo and dorian apart!

I can purify 'corrupted' or 'tainted' things...like the traveler

There is a festival in Muse (my home city) that has a cultural dance where the dancer walks/dances on water

I have visions

There is a vision each person in Muse has a few days after they turn 18 about future romantic choices we have
