Gajin Fujita (ガジン・フジタ, born 1972) is a graffiti artist from East Los Angeles. He is a member of LA graffiti crews K2S(Kill 2 Succeed) and KGB (Kids Gone Bad).
Fujita's work has been widely exhibited at galleries and museums such as Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art (Kansas City), L.A. Louver Gallery and several international venues in Switzerland, Greece, Australia and Belgium. He is represented by L.A. Louver in Venice, CA.
Fujita blends Eastern techniques (anime, partitioned screens, ukiyo-e), and elements (geishas, warriors, demons), with Western, urban imagery (Latino graffiti, U.S. pop culture imagery) in a way that is stunning and vibrant, yet harmonious. His works embody the cultural and class contradictions that are an integral part of urban Los Angeles.
His paintings are really a collection of symbols, both contemporary and ancient, as he holds a funfair mirror up to the outside world, juxtaposing the old and the new, the traditional and the modern, the West and the East. “People still call me a graffiti artist, but I’m not any more,” he says, with a slight edge to his tone. “I’m not doing stuff on the streets, I’m painting in my studio, and that cannot be graffiti. I just want to be known as a painter, an artist.” He likens this mix-and-match approach to hip-hop, sampling the past in order to build the future, forcing the traditional to bend to the unconventional.
“Fujita’s art has everything to do with hip-hop, butoh dance and the Dodgers,” wrote LA Weekly in 2007. “It is the embodiment of the LA experience if it were processed by an Old World shunga painter who doubled as a member of the [graffiti gang] K2S graf crew. His style is a dizzyingly beautiful visual collision of East and West, old and new, legal and illegal. Serpents, goldfish, chrysanthemums, geishas, warriors and sports logos – painstakingly applied by hand – all come together on backgrounds of gold leaf and foil, tangled with layers of graffiti, supplied by Fujita’s crew.” The Los Angeles Times was equally euphoric, describing his paintings as, “The mean streets of an anonymous metropolis, where silhouetted palm trees, tropical foliage and shimmering moonlight provide the theatrical backdrop for dazzling explosions of spray-painted tags and single words dolled up like customised low-riders.” - https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/culture/article/gajin-fujita-art-los-angeles
Fujita’s art plays heavily with the idea of street culture and the juxtaposition between this and the ancient and cultural. He uses symbolism as repeated symbols in his work which have loaded meanings. His artwork is bright and eye-catching, with slogans, symbols and instantly recognisable subject matter. These concepts are very similar to what I am trying to recreate with my art, and I find how Fujita does this very interesting and inspirational.

Tradition, textiles and tagging: Gajin Fujita’s “Xing the River Styx”
In his new work “Xing the River Styx” (2018), Gajin Fujita makes reference to a woodblock print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) titled “Kishin Omatsu Shirosaburo o Korosu Zu” or “Picture of the Demon Omatsu Killing Shirosaburo.” The work dates back to 1886 and depicts the 14th-century legend of samurai Shirosaburo at his moment of death. According to folklore, the woman responsible for his killing was a ghost of his deceased wife. It is believed that she was murdered by the samurai, and here she reemerges to seek revenge. Posed as a maiden needing assistance across the river, she manages to lure the samurai to carry her to the other side. Fujita has long admired the work of Yoshitoshi for his realistic depictions of people with emotive qualities of expression. The tension in this scene is palpable. While adhering to Yoshitoshi’s exact figural composition, Fujita removes the characters and supplants them into his own picture plane. On wooden panels, finished with white and gold leaf, they float amongst graffiti-style markings written by himself and longtime friends and members of his graffiti crew K2S (Kill 2 Succeed), Defer, Prime and 382.
The garment patterns are either slightly altered from the original, or completely rehashed. The red sunflower textile that trails behind the female figure is true to Yoshitoshi’s composition, but which Fujita graphically enhances with sharper forms and deeper contrasts. However, her blue kimono is completely derived from his own imagination. To characterize her as a ghostly apparition, Fujita drapes her in Halloween motifs that connote trickery, witchcraft and the supernatural. Because all color is applied with spray paint through cut-out stencils, patterns can often pose a challenge in the artist’s process. For the Halloween pattern, the artist created two stencils for the pumpkins and two for the bats. By alternating the stencils, he multiplied the imagery across her clothing, while paying special attention to the creases and folds. Executed in an indigo palette of blues, the artist makes reference to traditional Japanese shibori textiles. In the male’s garments, Fujita adheres closer to the original with a traditional woven-like Japanese pattern, but in a different color palette of greens and golds. To achieve a seamless repetitive pattern, Fujita designed a specialized vinyl stencil of a small section of the pattern. Through repeated application, he strategically executed the overall design, carefully comporting to the clothing’s drapes and folds.
The crow in the lower left-hand corner is a Fujita addition, placed as a portent of the scene at play.
While the work’s title “Xing the River Styx” makes reference to Greek mythology, Fujita was also inspired by the ’70s cult classic samurai film series “Lone Wolf and Cub,” particularly the second in the series titled “Baby Cart at the River Styx.”

Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #1286
(By Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184) Mountain Climbing Mecha Combat #1286
Brought to you by ANN
Highlighting the May 3361 Point Mech Panic
As expected, the Gaming Authorities had prepared an PointMech event for us after the end of the war.
Commanders (such as myself) who had had most of their Mechs destroyed in the last stages of the war, therefore only had to somehow get a single ride into working order.
My chief Tech, -Bruno, did manage to put together a franken Mech from the various piles of scrap that had been hauled back to the remnants of the base. Consisting of about 25% Humbaba parts, 30% other BFM parts and 45% unknown parts, it was tentatively classified as an Humbaba, and sprayed by red paint to sneek it by the gate officials.
Not that they cared what model one brought to the arena. If you coluld pilot it, it was legal. If you blew yourself up due to lack of skill, was blown apart without reply by others due to a lack of armor and armament, or whatever befell you, their responsibility was to steer you to the correct top.
We were sent to K3 where all the regular contenders would have Licences higher than mine, some perhaps as much as seventy higher. A quick look at the opponents confirmed my fear. We were once again on the bottom of the heap, and the number of Commanders present ment we started way out on the plains.
However, as the only way to a prize went through said Commanders, we had better try crawling to the top on a pile of their wrecked rides. The initial stages was not too bad. We managed to claim a spot in the foothills after just a few losses.
Then it was time to pick some opponent we might beat to get a shot at the slopes. After some failures the spot was taken, and we put the crosshair over Tim Williams from M&L Black Cats. His Spectre outmassed my Humbaba by 10%, but as Spectres have a somewhat weak targeting routine, it was possible he might miss us a couple times and let us land a telling blow. It took a couple tries, but finally we were on the slopes, and the way foreward was problematic to say the least.
As there was no real point in trying for another slope position, the only spot worth fighting for was the top, -held by Mike Rodenizer of the Unicorns. But his Fext had thicker armor, higher speed and more weapons than my franken Mech, so after a while it became prudent to reserve the remaining attacks in case we were dragged back from the slopes.
It was a pretty long wait for the event to finish, -and intercepted by some half-hearted strikes vs Rodenizer, the time was spent recording the wild action on the other tops.
So when the light finally flashed, it was clear that those who had won mew Nephilax`es this time were.
Div 1 352+ (35 Commanders): Jeff Haas, Warlocks HQ (Cyberdon)(31s) 2: Ben Rail 3: David Buchanan 4: Mk Mathews 5: Justin Verret 6: Jaime Beltran 7: Claude Poirier 8: Sal Vezzosi Jr 9: Roy Cheah 10: David Sifford Div 2 -351 (16 Commanders): George Warren, B.o.A.D. (Cyberdon)(15s) Div 3 -262 (25 Commanders): Mike Rhodenizer, P.F.U.D.o.R. (Fext)(2h,20m) Div 4 -189 (19 Commanders): BobOstby, T.B. BlackWatch (Boreas)(11s) Div 5 -146 (45 Commanders): PloyPloyGunpat, Mad Scientist.7 (Fext)(2s) Div 6 -102 (23 Commanders): Dale Smith, t&t (Guardian)(2h,7m) Div 7 -76 (22 Commanders): MissPsycho, T.B. 1st K.H. (Boreas)(26m,9s) Div 8 -49 (11 Commanders): Twiki_, Deaths Hecklers (Frigis)(2d,2h) Div 9 -32 (21 Commanders): RobertGoetz, Jagdstaffel 2 (Dilophos)(20h,42m) Div 10 -19 (24 Commanders): Iaskottely, RED AXE (Orcus)(18m,9s) Div 11 -12 (18 Commanders): Iorvailu, RED AXE (Orcus)(12m,15s)
Total Contestants: 259 Total medals claimed: 161 (of 165 possible)
Compared to the mid-war, frontline event, the number of Commanders present rose by eight. But even this influx could not guarantee that all the prizes were claimed, -especially not when the imbalance between the tops was such that the most popular top had as many contestants as the three least popular combined. Therefore, four Bronzes from K8 were returned for resmelting after the award ceremony.
The award for the mostwinning Mech model was split in a four-way tie this time. The Cyberdon, Fext, Boreas and Orcus all claimed two Golds each. None of the Crystal Mechs managed to land even one Gold to their name.
The last half-hour saw seven Golds changing hands at least once, four of them not decided until the last minute. The other four Golds were all held for at least two hours, one of them for more than a day. So some pretty wild fighting, and some strong winners this time around. But how close were the fights for the lesser prizes? Best way to find out is to take a look at the number of medals held for more than 30 minutes in this event:
.............Silvers......Bronzes
Div 1 ....0 of 4.........2 of 10 Div 2 ....0 of 4.........7 of 10 Div 3 ....1 of 4.........7 of 10 Div 4 ....0 of 4.........6 of 10 Div 5 ....0 of 4.........1 of 10 Div 6 ....3 of 4.........7 of 10 Div 7 ....2 of 4.........8 of 10 Div 8 ....1 of 4.........2 of 6 Div 9 ....3 of 4.........7 of 10 Div 10 ..2 of 4.........8 of 10 Div 11 ..3 of 4.........8 of 10
There was at least some fighting on all of the tops, and on five of them (Mount Olympus, K2, K4, K5 and K8) the majority of the medals changed hands at least once.
The only clan to claim a double Gold from this event was RED AXE whose Orcus`es stood tallest on both K10 and K11. None of the unaligned Commanders rose to the top this time, and the sole repeat winner was The Brotherhood BlackWatch`s BobOstby on K4.
Upcoming event: 35 Alive Chrono
Here we get a Chrono for the lighter part of the medium tonnage range. No Mechs heavier then 35 tons will fight, so bringing any to the arena is a waste of formation space. And as it is a Chrono, signing up ASAP is close to mandatory for those who want some of the (good) prizes.
Event ends July 18 between 2200 and 2230 New York Time

With the explosion of products containing hemp-derived CBD in the last few years, many less-than-honest players found ways to flood the market with “CBD oil” that is a modern-day equivalent of snake oil—not necessarily dangerous but definitely ineffective. In some cases, a bottle labeled as CBD oil is just a few crushed vitamins and supplements mixed with olive oil.
It seems impossible but there are some companies out there selling CBD oil, promising improved health, less pain and the myriad other claims they make, that is actually synthetic CBD oil—no different from the potentially lethal forms of synthetic cannabis sold on the street.
In November 2018, Consumer Reports (CR) published an article about dangerous chemicals found in popular over-the-counter (OTC) CBD products. Based on testing conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University, CR reported that Diamond CBD, with locations in England and the U.S., sells CBD products made by three popular companies over the Internet that contain a compound called 5F-ADB, which is a synthetic form of cannabis also found in K2 and Spice.
Drug Overdoses in the U.S.
The Centers for Disease Control tracked all fatal drug overdoses from 1999 to 2017, and in that time it reported a four-fold increase in ODs. In addition to tracking the number of deaths due to overdose, the CDC keeps tabs on which drugs are responsible for them. Unheard of in 1999, overdoses from synthetic cannabis—both marijuana and CBD—is now keeping pace with ODs from benzos and opioids. Stories abound of swaths of people—most between the ages of 12 and 30—being rushed to emergency rooms, suspected of overdosing on synthetic cannabis.
Mainstream media began reporting more widely about the increase of synthetic cannabis use in 2015, with an uptick between late 2017 and mid-2018 as usage really took off. However, the National Institute on Drug Abuse says synthetic cannabis use dates back to 2008. In fact, it claims 11,406 visits to emergency rooms in the U.S. during 2012 were the result of synthetic cannabis.
What Is Synthetic Cannabis?
Synthetic cannabinoids are created in a lab and bear no chemical resemblance to the cannabis plant. It’s a group of chemical substances that are supposed to mimic the effects of the natural cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. These synthetic products have been cleverly marketed as safe or harmless products, or even as safer alternatives to real cannabis.
No two types of synthetic cannabis are the same, and in most cases the chemical makeup is unknown. It’s estimated there are hundreds of compounds that can potentially go into creating these synthetic products. To the untrained eye, it’s easy to see how someone could be fooled into believing a synthetic is the real deal.
Synthetic cannabis is generally a mixture of different plants, spray painted green. Four telltale signs that your cannabis is fake include:
The package has what looks like ground-up plant material rather than cannabis buds.
You’ll notice a chemical smell. Cannabis—regardless of the strain—has a distinct smell and it smells like something you’d find in nature.
Real cannabis has a stickiness to it, thanks to naturally occurring resin. After handling the fake stuff, your fingers won’t be sticky.
Synthetic cannabis is one or two shades of green. Conversely, natural cannabis is green with hints of yellow, red, orange, blue and purple.
What Are the Risks Involved with Synthetic Cannabis?
Although the goal is to have these chemical substances mimic the effects of cannabis, the synthetic versions are highly dangerous and can cause many serious health issues. Because the list of possible chemicals can vary from one street-level manufacturer to another, the risks also vary and are ever-changing. Some health risks include:
Severe anxiety, agitation and paranoia
Tachycardia (in excess of 100 beats per minute)
Hypertension
Muscle spasms and tremors
Nausea and vomiting
Severe bleeding due to blood not clotting
Poor coordination/gait
Seizures
Hallucinations
Disorientation
Psychosis
Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
Coma
Death
In addition to being sold in “flower form,” synthetic versions of cannabis are also sold as e-cigarettes and extracts for vaping, such as waxes and oils.
Common Names for Synthetic Cannabis
You’re probably familiar with the names K2 and Spice, but there are other names for synthetic cannabis, and they may vary depending on the region. In some cases the street name may be the same or very similar to real cannabis strains:
24k monkey
Ace of Spades
Amsterdam Gold
Atomic Blast
Atomic Bomb
Berry Blend
Big Bang
Herbal Incense
Blue Berry Yum Yum
BrainFreeze
Buzz Haze
California Dreams
Cowboy Kush
Cobra King Kush
One Love
Orange Kush
Pandora’s Box
PEP Spice
OG
Potpurri (sic)
Purple Diesel
Purple Haze
Synthetic Cannabis: Just Say No
If you’re concerned about synthetic CBD, check out the below tips before making a purchase. As always, consult your doctor before introducing CBD to your wellness routine.
Buy from a Dispensary
The safest way to ensure you’re getting real cannabis is to buy from a dispensary. Dispensaries are required by law to sell extracts derived from cannabis plants. Dispensaries can lose their license to sell cannabis and face huge fines if caught. Manufacturers caught making extracts with anything other than cannabis are subject to prison time—even if no one was harmed.
Request the Product Lab Report
No matter where you purchase CBD, you have the right to request a lab report. If the company is unwilling to provide one or insists the information is proprietary, that’s a big red flag.
If you or someone you are with has consumed synthetic CBD, don’t wait for symptoms to appear before seeking medical attention.
