Earth Shatterin!
(Or, What the ContainAtrocity muses are up to post Event.)
DUCK has been restricted to bedrest and is doing his level best to recover, with his kids, Claire, Z, and Lucy visiting and sticking around to keep him company, he's gotten in touch with his hobbies a little more than he was willing to over the last while, working on a DND campaign, playing music, and getting back into his favorite video games on his dusty old playstation, to name a few. He misses work, and feels like a burden- but slowing down has done him some good. He can walk short distances, but this has to be supplemented with a cane and his knee brace.
RUSTY has similarly been forced to stay home, largely looked after by Sissy and Cyan, he's agitated with his inability to function as he normally does, making him more snippy/argumentative than he'd like to be. He spends his free time practicing his marksmanship now, much to the chagrin of his niece and Cyan, and has a tendency to push his luck, trying to go back to work, or make his way to help with Reggie's injuries.
ABSINTHE has found himself at a crossroads, untrusting of Raziel and his intentions for the commune he convinced Ondine to take Joei and leave for town, after coming clean about his true nature: He's Abel Fulci, an exorcist, a priest- a weapon, not an unfortunate wanderer. Temptation and anger paint his hours at home, and he's spending a notably larger amount of time at the chapel and the site of his fellow priests' deaths to try and organize thoughts- and avoid the ghost from their past.
CYAN Has been doing his best to restore the intranet around the town between looking after the Boone house and keeping Rusty from running off, and helping Sissy ready up for the winter. He has similarly been working on convincing G to calm down about the earthquake, when Unnamed Garage Band gets back together for a few hours of normalcy.
KB Has once again retreated into the safety of the radio station, but this fact is largely because his home was damaged, some structural issue inside causing the rune to be dysfunctional. As he tries to puzzle out what's going on there, he's thrown himself back into trying to integrate into town- terrified instead that he might die alone, instead of at all. He's returned to doing children's puppet shows and book readings at the libraries on specific weekends.
GABE has retreated into one of his his more harmful beliefs, that he is physically incapable of suffering any harm. He is regularly scratched, bruised, or banged up in various regards, largely from spills and foolishness he could have avoided. Despite this minor backslide, he's doing his best to help with rebuilding efforts, keeping in touch with the weirdlings, Unnamed Garage Band, and Declan between attending to the apartment he shares with Edgar and assisting his roommate with his recovery and looking after the rats, as his hands are still recovering.
MERCY Having a terribly out of character change of heart, he's thrown himself into assisting with the construction efforts around town, and has proven particularly knowledgeable about making the best of minimal, or damaged supplies. While his attitude seems to remain largely self-serving, the earthquake seems to have shaken something less cold loose within him- though navigating his grandiose demeanor and cruel tongue to find it remains difficult.
WREN has stepped into the Deputy Game Warden position to pick up the slack from her father's absence, and has placed her cashier position at the food market on a temporary hold- unless asked to fill in for a coworker. Still prone to overworking herself, she's managed to find a balance, though this is likely due to the constant presence of people in and out of the Romero house lightening her load enough that she feels comfortable enough to actually take some time to herself with her friends- or get some well-needed sleep.
ZIGGY has been assisting with efforts to rebuild, doing his best to attend to the minor issues of the townspeople that mean a lot- damaged belongings that can be fixed with a little care and attention. In the spaces between work, he's been visiting Bri and gathering the courage to ask Nattie to speak with him in private- rather certain he's worked out exactly who she is after their encounter at the festival.
OCTOBER has made himself comfortable at the Commune, using his stature and personality as a cudgel against people foolish enough to ask him to mind his manners or pull his weight. While he's playing along for now, picking up chores as required, he's grown to treat the common areas like his space- simply because no one in the commune is going to stop him. He continues to hover around Quinn- who's association with Raziel means the trio are often seen together- Much to October's general chagrin.
BUTTONS has resumed the roles she's always served, a quiet place to rest, a listening ear, and a problem solver. She has busied herself with providing care packages to the injured of food, sweets, and various other home remedies she can provide, and making certain that the mischief around the people trying to get better is kept at a general minimum. She continues to offer childcare services to those who need them around town, especially those with young children now working to help care for townsfolk, or putting town back in order.
LEX continues to be the town's cold, silent observer, judging and watching those around him operate. He has made it clear that his services are available to any suffering trauma in the aftermath of the earthquake or people possibly recovering from head injuries, and his touch is notedly gentler in the wake of something fresh. He continues to drink a coffee with a splash of milk and two sugars every morning like clockwork at the diner, and being a general miser.
ROBIN Romero has been tossing things into the big ol' hole in the middle of town. He's pretty sure he's worked out where the bottom is through science. While he stays a good several feet from the edge, his fixation on it seems to be to avoid his upset about his father's 'near-death' experience.

Perhaps against his better judgement, especially after the last celebration went so poorly, Kieran Barnes is still making the effort to attend the flower festival. Present not as a DJ but as an attendee this time, he's elected to sell a small handful of the handmade projects he makes while he's on the air, including crocheted insects and garden life in keeping with the theme of the festival and a small number of hand puppets not unlike the ones he used for storytime at the library early into and before the paradox.
While most are for trade for food, and more supplies to make more of them, He's got a weak spot for the little ones trapped in Huntsville alongside him- and has a tendency to simply give them the smaller, colorful spiders, slugs, and snails he's made in his leisure time.

THE HOST: KIERAN 'KB' BARNES
Three two one, we go live! Oh baby, you're a classic, like a little black dress- you're a faded moon. Stuck on a little hot mess. But you'll be faded soon.
"I'm Kieran Barnes, but everybody just calls me KB. I'm 55 years old, and I've been the host of H.87 The Riot since the 90s. I've lived in Huntsville since my twenties, after traveling for a while with a rock band as a roadie. I settled down, and prior to the paradox, I was a local celebrity who did a lot of readings at the local library and entertainment for the kids in town- though in the years recently, I've retreated in on myself. I live almost entirely in the radio station, where I broadcast local announcements and music even all these years later. I don't trust the commune and my vice is my own paranoia."
Name: Kieran Pietro Barnes
Age: 55 (September 4th)
Sexuality/Gender: Pansexual Cis Man (He/Him)
Personality: Generally kindhearted and jovial, KB is a friend to most everyone in town, having spent much of his time there a local, well loved celebrity thanks to the radio station. He's helpful to a fault, as long as it means he doesn't have to leave the station, using his knowledge of the radio and his presence as one of the last remaining staff of the place still alive to keep the town at the very least supplied with music to listen to, and a quick way to contact everyone with one button- responsible and doting on the safety of others, He's perhaps lonely, at his core, his children long grown and far away from the town he called home and is now trapped within. his outreach helps quiet the ache. The paradox has left him paranoid, however, convinced there's some larger conspiracy at play, he's quick to talk about it to anyone who will sit around long enough to listen, hoping to gather enough people who believe him to perhaps solve the mystery of the town and get them out- he'll abandon his life's work, if it means freedom and seeing his family again.
Occupation: Radio show host at H.87 The Riot
Affiliations: The townsfolk of Huntsville, H.87 The Riot, Former Roadie for several 80s-90s era rock bands
Scent Profile: Bitter coffee and caramel sweets, both hoarded from well before the paradox trapped him in town. The faint, lingering smell of sweat, something denoting that it's been a while, since he's gone home, all hidden under a cloud of cologne.
Aesthetic: Wires running from thousands of old machines, your voice through the waves, safe within them, winding around you like a cocoon, making themselves your new home- wires like red lines of thread on a corkboard, Your paranoia has kept you alive but it will make you lonely. The world is cruel now, and you can't cope with that. Your voice through the waves, everyone knows you on a first name basis. you are their normalcy. you haven't had any of your own for a long, long time.
Not the boy I was, the boy I am is just venting, venting, dear gravity, you held me down in this starless city- I'm not the boy I was. The boy I am is just venting, venting- dear gravity. You've held me down in this starless city.
CHAPTER ONE: LIFE IN HUNTSVILLE POST PARADOX.
Following the Paradox, KB has largely collapsed in on himself, a hermit of sorts living entirely within the radio station, broadcasting day and night only stopping to sleep and shower. He's happy to serve as the town's announcement system and an entertainer, things that feel normal, familiar comparative to the past decade spent living in relative terror. Once a local celebrity and entertainer, regularly doing story nights at the local library for the children and going to the school to do puppet theater shows, he doesn't have many young folks to entertain, anymore, his collection of plush friends left to the side to collect dust. He serves now as a reminder of a bygone era, a host of a station that has had the blessing to remain active, and with songs that only stretch up to 2012, he's tried to spice things up, opening the station up to bartering and trade announcements brought by every morning to be read out every few hours, radio plays, and with the arrival of Cyan, a handful of new songs provided to the airwaves in blocks on fridays through sundays- something for people to look forward to- a reason to tune in.
In honesty, he craves the company. the knowledge people are listening brings him comfort, the knowledge he's not just some scared old man hiding in his radio station, that somewhere- even if it's just through Huntsville, his voice still carries, that he's still somebody people care about enough to tune in- he doesn't want to fade away, an entity of a bygone era like the radio itself. He'll keep spinning tracks for the comfort of others- so long as he's still offered listening ears, and calls on landlines for company when that little box over his studio reads "On Air."

✏️ PENCIL - is there a particular quote / lyric that you associate with them? (kb)
Perhaps in direct opposition with his personality, his original conception leaned on lyrics from Antisocialist, by Asking Alexandria.
I had a dream once I didn't know at the time The world was perfect in that moment Then I woke up I was surrounded by these strangers Standing close and starin' in So I drink liquor to escape it But I always wake up

Happy Birthday Rory!
Kirby made him a denim jacket that they thought he’d think was funny and got him a custom wallet with a photo of Rory, Edgar and Parkley printed on it.

Have you seen Kirby around Faerune? They’re a Vamp/Fae Hybrid who’s Neutral about the Unseelie Queen’s reign. People have heard they’re Innovative, Witty and Imaginative but can also be Sneaky, Unsure and Depressed. We’ll see where they fall when the revolution arrives, but until then they can be found working as a Bartender at The 13th Tombstone Tavern.
Name: Kirby Age: 25 DOB: Aug 18th Species: Vamp/Fae hybrid Job: Bartender @ 13th tombstone tavern Sexuality: Questioning everything Gender: They/She/He Family: Roulette kid
Season 1
Season 2
Shortly after the crystals had erupted, Kirby had opened up a bit more about their parents to Rory during shifts. Soon finding out they really should have paid more attention in class considering they had to find out from him and Alex that they were adopted. Decked out in lab coats, Rory with crazy mad scientist hair and Alex wearing safety goggles, really committed to the bit of teaching Kirby basic body anatomy. Before they had time to process any of that the past had caught up to them, Ray had finally caught them for stealing the bike a bit ago, it was only a matter of time really.
This time their parents couldn’t pay their way outta this, not like they really wanted them too anyway. In an odd turn of events they liked being in jail, Kirby was away from their parents and finally had time to breathe and not be so afraid. They were only there for a few months, getting out on good behavior and having to be on probation so they contacted Edgar and shortly after moved in with him. It’s not like their parents were going to welcome them back with open arms but they didn’t care anymore, Kirby wanted nothing to do with them after finding out about being adopted.
Returning to the bar, a lot was still the same except they weren’t late to work as often anymore since they lived closer. Having a new found confidence they flirted with and took home whoever would let them and didn’t care much about who the person was, it was a fuck and forget situation. Some of them wanted more but Kirby wasn’t interested in relationships, still dealing with the “i’m unlovable” mentality which they’re trying to unlearn. Most days they’re fine but every so often she gets hit with the emotions of everything from the past, how different would her life be if she wasn’t adopted? Would she still be around if she hadn’t run into Edgar? One things for sure, she wanted to find out who her real parents are and is determined to find out

It was any other night for Kirby, unable to sleep, weed not helping and having the urge to be on venom again. They needed fresh air but it being past curfew already they’d have to be sneaky about it, not like they’ve never done that before. So they opened their window as quietly as possible trying not to wake Edgar up and made their way outside, shutting the window behind them.
They practically had Jacks route memorized at this point so they knew at this time he wasn’t going to be near so they took that as an opportunity to take off towards the beginning part of his route to avoid running into him soon. It was also around this time that, that Percy guy who’s let him hide out a couple of times was usually on his fire escape except tonight he wasn’t and Kirby found that odd.
He knew of Percy because of those few times and the times he’s come to the bar to hang out with Rory, sometimes October being there hanging close to him so he wasn’t unfamiliar to them. It wasn’t until Kirby turned down a usual alleyway that was close by his place when he spotted Percy, unconscious and laying on the floor.
“What the fuck.” They whispered trying not to be heard as they ran up to the unconscious man. Kirby tried to tap Percy’s cheek a little to wake him up but it wasn’t working, he was out cold and no intention of waking up soon. They knew it’s the affects of venom, often having a similar reaction themselves so they wrapped an arm around percy hoisting him up and throwing him over their shoulder.
They poked their head out and onto the street making sure the coast was clear and there was no sign of the dickhead anywhere before they made their way across the street heading directly towards Percy’s apartment. Kirby could assume which floor and spot it was based off where the fire escape sat on the outside so when they got there, they quickly went inside and made their way to where they thought it’d be. They had to set Percy down, feeling a little bad about going through the others things but they needed the keys to get in and couldn’t wake the other to just let himself in.
When they finally found the keys, Kirby unlocked the door leaving it open so they can pick Percy up, this time carrying him bridal style inside. Laying him on the couch, they grabbed a blanket, throwing it over him before grabbing his phone to try and text someone off it. Of course it was dead but then Kirby realized Rory had given them Octobers number just in case and they knew that those two were close so I guess this was the just in case moment.
[Text: guy who couldn’t wrap it] i found percy passed out in an alleyway
[Text: guy who couldn’t wrap it] he’s home now, looks like venom high
[Text: guy who couldn’t wrap it] idk what i should do tbh

I watch the smoke leap from my lips Slipping further with every kiss They say ignorance is bliss But how do you know when you're too far gone When it's been so damn long since you told right from wrong How far will you let this go Before you lose yourself and then everyone else
