are there any other recent college graduates out there, who don’t have some sort of permanent official job lined up (me), or who are still living with their parents (me), or are just kind of trying to figure out what to do with their lives (wow me again look at that) that are just ultimately terrified of the idea that we can be anything we want? Seriously. I know its some old repeated shit that our parents told us growing up and its this sort of mantra that supposed to have shaped a generation or whatever, but its honestly true; we could go out there and do whatever we want and be whoever we want to be and theres kind of no one stopping us. I’m literally a young educated black woman (what a concept holy shit) and I literally have the option of cutting off everyone I know, driving in one direction until I find a place I want to stay and be whoever I want to be in that place and no one can tell me no. I can create an entirely different self that nobody there would know. and it would still be me. I could fuck off to Canada for the next 20 years and illegally live there bartending and sight seeing and that could be my life. I could be the head of a corporation or start a non profit. I could shoot whack ass homemade movies and road trip the U.S. I could fucking decide to study with NASA and do whatever the fuck they do if I really wanted to, and I could just sit and watch sunsets in holy nature places if I wanted to do that shit. Its so weird for me to think I can do these things. like holy fucking shit. I can be whoever I decide to be. And thats kind of terrifying and amazing all at the same time. I’m kind of ready for it.

JXTPS- "Tactics"
.@Juxtpose doesn't waste a second on the sleek and fully locked-in techno track "Tactics"
On “Catalina,” one of the countless highlights from Raekwon’s 2009 revivalist hip hop gem Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2, there’s a sample from The Killer where someone urges “don’t disturb the doctor.” And though the Melbourne techno artist JXTPS couldn’t be further removed from the Wu-Tang Clan, that sample would make a good DJ drop for him. Particularly before a song such as “Tactics.” The…

Melbourne producer - JXTPS switches gears with his ‘Wu Kush’ moniker heading for more housey and electro vibes compared to his usual techno output. ‘Rolling Devestation’ comes fresh off the recently dropped Xenomorph EP, and features some classic Chicago house touches alongside a chunky electro beat and flickering synthesizers.  Grab the release here Follow   Soundcloud Spotify

 Machine isoStream 18 :: JXTPS
Melbourne producer /musician, JXTPS takes on freeform expressionism with a colourful palette of mixed genres, creating a mesmerizing sonic canvas for Machine isoStream 18, where he wanted to create something different, more of a listening vibe and not to be bound by tempo too much…. Directive achieved.

JXTPS interview
Short interview with music producer JXTPS as a preview for Berlin Calling LIVE techno this 23rd of March at The Sub Club Melbourne.
Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Luc I am a producer and I live in Melbourne, I make Techno and other types of Electronic music
Tell us about your music career and your influences
When I was a kid I used to listen to weird music - weird Rock and Roll and Punk and some Jazz. After school I got into University and studied Jazz for 4 years. After that I did a Rock band and then after that Techno. So I’ve been involved in quite a variety of music
Do you play an instrument?
Yes I do, I play guitar *strums guitar*
What kind of rock music do you like?
After Jazz I really liked the Mars Volta and Tortoise. Playing jazz, which is quite often a softer music, I wanted something more hard, so Post Rock and Progressive Rock was perfect for me. Nowadays I listen to a wide variety from Ambient and Experimental to Soundtrack Music
When did you start to switch to electronic music?
Well I was having quite a difficult time with my bandmates and it was not working out. But I still wanted to make music so I started thinking about making Electronic music. One day I heard a radio show by Ennio Styles, his show had interviews with Mad Mike from the Underground Résistance and Carl Craig and it was amazing. It opened my mind. I didn’t know that Techno came from Detroit
Do you DJ?
No, I tried to but now I mostly do live
What motivates you to do a live show?
Because of my music background, Initially I wanted to integrate live instruments and Electronic music together, but then I discovered synthesizers and drum machines and that’s what I’m doing now, though I hope to come back to using live instruments again at some point
Techno is a DJ culture and that’s  great, but for me, I feel that there is too much waiting time between tracks and I just don’t know what to do with myself on stage, so I prefer to keep my hands busy *chuckles*
But I guess the other thing is I’m just very interested in making my own music and that’s my primary motivation. I spend more time making music than listening to other people’s songs, and when I try to DJ I find that there is so much work to do to catch up. I don’t have enough time to do both at the same time. It was good to learn to DJ for a bit, but I’d just rather make music
Do you feel the interaction between the audiences is different when you do live, compare to DJing?
Yes, that’s a good point. When you are in the moment, someone in the crowd or something happening can affect you. That can make you do things that are much more spontaneous, it’s quite different to practising alone
Which and where has been your best live gig? And how long have you been playing in Melbourne?
I think my first gig was around 2013. I had some good shows at Pleasure Planet and I did a live hardware set at Strawberry Fields in 2015. Though I’ve never really been as confident as I am now. So, a lot of the gigs that I did early on I found quite nerve-wracking and probably didn’t have as much fun
The most fun and satisfying gigs I’ve had were at Sub-Club end of last year and Boney at the start of this year, playing with a bunch of new material. Feels like now I know what I’m doing a lot more and the new material is a lot faster
What is your opinion of the techno scene in Melbourne and its perspectives?
I think Melbourne is quite privileged, there is always something going on every night so that’s positive. But people take it for granted - I definitely do. However I do want to see more variety in terms of genres being played, most people tend to play the same thing. I know that that is just my own personal taste, but I do hope the future could be kind of like it was in the old school days where people played alongside different styles
As for the future, who knows? For me I see Techno is a kind of element that I want to use for other things - I am seeing that in some of the really new young new crews coming up which is great. Mainstream Techno is a little bit too much of the same, so I’d like to see that evolve otherwise I reckon it’s going to become like EDM with everyone standing around and waiting for “the drop”
What do you think of this live techno concept and what will be your set up for the night?
I think it is a great concept, definitely. The thing that I am not looking forward to is battling my way to through all the gear that is going to be there!
My setup is really simple, a drum machine, controller and a laptop. Most of my playing comes from the drum machine, the Elektron Rytm which is a drum computer essentially. It’s kind of like Jeff Mills playing with his 909, except with my setup I also do basslines and melodic patterns and can control the volume of everything via the APC 40.
