29:6  And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds. Allah does not need you. The one who created you, knows you more than you know yourself, does not need you. We are not obedient to Allah in order that Allah becomes greater but for our own improvement. Therefore, when you are working towards completing actions of our deen and completing the sunnah of the Prophet (sws), Allah does not somehow exalt even more, Allah is exalted and has been exalted before you existence.  Don’t ever think that you are praying for someone and something else other than yourself. Do not ever think that you are giving charity, having good character or doing anything that encompasses this deen, other than for your own benefit.  This also reminds me of the verse, that the blood of the animals that you slaughter does not go to Allah. Allah does not have us complete actions in order that he become greater or is more dignified, Allah’s power and dignity has already been established, this is for you, for your sancitiy and a means for you to get back home.  We are striving towards Allah not for Allah.  ‪#‎juz20‬

In the taraweeh covering Juz 20, we finish Surah Naml, Surah Shuraa, and start Surah Ankabut.  One powerful lesson in this portion I thought was in Surah Shuraa, Allah is telling us the account of Musa (as) and how he accidentally struck a man during an argument and the man ended up dying. Right after that, Musa (as) makes tawbah, he repents to Allah but the way he does it is awesome and these ayahs really show tawbah done right. "He said, "My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me," and He forgave him. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. He said, "My Lord, for the favor You bestowed upon me, I will never be an assistant to the criminals." [28:16-17]  Musa (as) first sincerely asks for Allah's forgiveness and in the second part he tells Allah and proclaims that he will never do that again. He actually doesn't say he won't strike anyone again, he says that he will never be an assistant to those who criminals, meaning he won't even go near it. SubhanAllah! Part of repenting and truly making a U turn back to Allah is first sincerely begging to Allah for forgiveness, feeling remorse and guilt for the sin committed and then the second part- promising yourself and Allah that you're gonna try your very best to never commit that sin again! And if after that you do commit the same sin again, repeat the process and may Allah make us amongst those that are constantly turning back to him.  Another awesome lesson that we learn through Musa (as) in this portion is when Musa (as) has fled from his home, and he is now in Madyan where he sees two women struggling to bring their flocks to the water and so Musa (as) helps them out does their job, and then says an amazing, powerful du'a. "So he watered [their flocks] for them; then he went back to the shade and said, "My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good You would send down to me, in need." [28:24] Musa (as) in this du'a is thanking Allah for the opportunity of good that Allah has sent his way and he says that he is in need of any opportunity of good. He did something so small and yet after that, this is what he is saying subhanAllah. The lesson that we can take from this is that when we do some kind of act of good, it's not us that did it, we're not awesome cause we did x,y,z but rather it was a favor of Allah upon that Allah opened that door of goodness, that opportunity to attain those blessings and this can be something as small as being able to open the door for something, to being able to pick up trash off the road, to helping our mom set the table for dinner, to bringing food for a friend, or giving a smile, or serving in your local MSA's or communities or masajid. Allah is the one that opened that door of goodness for us, Allah granted us that honor and responsibility, and this is a du'a that we should employ into our daily lives- Ya Allah we are more and more in need of the good that you have sent our way.  Another ayah that always sticks out to me is the second ayah of Surah Ankabut: "Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?" [29:2] When it comes to tests, it's not a matter of IF we will be tested, we WILL be tested and our tests are customized and made just for us by Allah. For some the tests come in the form of sickness, loss of possessions, an internal quality that someone is really struggling to fix, and tests could also come in the form of people like for example our family members. Allah says that do we really think that if we proclaim to believed, that we're not gonna be tested? Tests are a way to see how strong our faith really is. Is our iman gonna crumble, are we gonna fall into despair when we are being tested and tried with some difficulty? Or will we rise up, push through it, become closer to Allah through the trial, and come our purified, better, and stronger people than we were before?
