Classic fishing vessel as they'd look 1900 - 1940s. This one is out of Frederikshavn in Northern Jutland, facing Kattegat. These vessels had diesel engines made locally... they'd have like 1 stroke every second.

Field trip in Jutland, part 1

I just realised i never uploaded my photos from my recent field trip in Jutland, where we visited outcrops and gravel pits from the Miocene delta that stretched across Denmark at the time. Here are some highlights!

Miocene tidal flat, underlain by dark lagoon mud, outcropping here in Kolding Fjord.

Miocene foreshore sand at Hvidbjerg (it's sand all the way down)

A gravel pit in a deposit of fluvial sand overlain by a layer of lignite, with occasional pieces of petrified wood. The foresets in the crossbedding shows tidal influence, as the sets are gathered in tidal bundles.

Another day, another gravel pit, this is where a two channels of an ancient braided river met and over time filled in the resulting scours in the seabed.

SMS Seydlitz. She took part in both the Battle of Dogger Bank and Battle of Jutland. She suffered severe damage in both engagements. A near magazine explosion at Dogger Bank and she was hit twenty one times by large caliber rounds and a torpedo at Jutland. But at Jutland she and Derfflinger destroyed the battlecruiser HMS Queen Mary. She ended life interned, then scuttled at Scapa Flow.

Petite balade en Wallonie, il y a 15 jours, plus précisément l'Archéo-site d'Aubechies. Ici le petit musée avec des trouvailles locales et des fac-simile d'autres pièces.

Un fac-similé en argent du célèbre chaudron celte de Gundestrup - Jutland, Danemark, fin 2ème s. av. J-C.

Ici, ce seraient sans doute des représentations d'un même dieu, à différents âges (photos 1, 2 et 3 ) . Sur la 2, il serait, jeune, entre les constellations du Dragon et de l'Hydre.

Puis sur la 4ème et sur la 5ème à droite du chaudron, ce serait une déesse jeune, puis âgée entre les constellations d'Orion et d'Hercule
