tw: james tartt sr. (slight mention of abuse)
i know this isn’t an unpopular opinion or anything but i need to talk about it because it makes me so upset but like…
JAMIE WOULD NOT FORGIVE HIS DAD THAT EASILY LIKE WHAT?!!
guys that scene in the end of season three where he’s in the rehab center would just not happen. first of all, james would never get sober unless he had to (so he’s probably mandated by the court to be in rehab) and even then he would not stay sober. he just wouldn’t.
and yeah, i think jamie would be glad that his dad was in rehab, because even if he hates the piece of crap he’s still going to have that hope that he can get better, but he would not be going to visit him and smiling and laughing with him like that. i will say that jamie might go visit him, but the healing process would be a long one for jamie and he was not immediately feel comfortable around him like that.
just because his father is in rehab getting better and he probably apologized does not mean that it makes up for a life time of abuse. let’s not forget all the damage that james has done to jamie not even in the series but as a child (specifically amsterdam) and probably much more not even mentioned. I feel like this scene pretty much excused all of his abuse and it’s icky.
shoutout to all the fan fictions i’ve read that don’t keep james sober!! (and further using it as a plot device for angst)

if you’re still doing jamie asks can you do like a secret romance thing where they’ve been dating (or however you want it to go) but like sneaking around? And maybe somebody finally finds out? I loooove your stuff honestly it makes me smiley
(i'm so happy people are liking my jamie stuff. i was scared i wasn't doing him justice!)
You always prided on not dating any coworkers. But stupid Jamie Tartt with his adorably stupid face just had to fuck it all up for you.
You never wanted people to think less of you for dating a colleague, especially one of higher status. So when you, Higgins' assistant, started dating Jamie, AFC Richmond's prized striker, you informed him upfront that your relationship couldn't be public.
Thus the sneaking around.
You'd give each other knowing looks, sneak kisses in the boot room if Will wasn't around. Had a few quickies in some storage room a few times. It was all so...exhilarating. The thrill of getting caught, knowing anyone could find you out. It was exciting...at least in the beginning.
After a while, it became tiresome. Jamie started asking if you two could ever go public. Not even public - public, just the team, coaches, and Rebecca. As much as you wanted to...that fear still stuck with you. The fear and anxiety of people giving you judgmental looks, questioning everything that you do. You couldn't stand the hypothetical version of it, how would you deal with it in real life?
It frustrated Jamie to no end. He loved you so much, he wanted to brag about you to anyone and everyone. Why won't you let him? Were you ashamed? Did you really not love him as much as he loves you?
Jamie's own anxieties started to build up as well, unbeknownst to you. So when Jamie broke things off with you, you were surprised. Okay, well not really. You had a feeling why he broke things off, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt.
Fuck it.
The only person you knew you could talk about this with was Keeley. So after a few days post-break up, you head over to her place. You now stand there at her door, knocking on her door. When it opens, it reveals-
"Jamie?" who stands there shirtless, wearing only joggers.
You knew Jamie and Keeley dated previously, you just didn't think he'd go running to her in an instant.
You scoff, "Well that didn't take long." You turn on your heel, already digging out your car keys, but Jamie rushes in front of you with his hands out.
"Please, this isn't what it looks like!"
"Why else would you be shirtless at your ex-girlfriend's, Jamie?!"
"I spilled wine on my shirt and Keeley threw it in the wash for me, I swear!"
"Y/N!" Keeley rushes out, looking at you with pleading eyes, "I promise nothing happened! Jamie was just telling me about-about you two and the break-up."
You pout a little, "That's why I came here."
Jamie shrugs, "Beat you to it."
Keeley grabs your hand and Jamie's, "I think you guys should talk things out, yeah?" she pulls the both of you back into her place. She gestures for you to sit on the couch, "I'll be upstairs to give you privacy."
Once you hear Keeley shut a door, you sigh, "I made a promise to myself to never date someone I work with. I've seen colleagues in the past receive such horrible treatment and was judged a lot by our peers. I never wanted to put myself in that position. But you made it so easy to fall for you. I was scared of being judged for loving you, but I lost you to my own insecurities. That's why I didn't want people to know."
Jamie gives a nod, "A bit stupid to think that. Everyone loves you." he looks down, fidgeting with the fabric of his pants, "Thought maybe you were ashamed of me or somethin'."
"I've never and will never be ashamed of you, Jamie. You're an amazing and wonderful man. On and off the pitch. I'm sorry I made it seem that way."
"Thank you."
"I would like to get back together, because I love you so so much. We can tell the team, Rebecca, Higgins, everyone."
He shakes his head, "Not if you're ready."
"I think I've been ready for a while. Just had to get my head out of my ass."
"Your right sexy ass," Jamie responds with a grin.
You smile, "We're okay?" you offer your hand out to him.
"More than okay," he places his hand in yours, fingers intertwining with yours.
"AAAWW GUUUYS!" Keeley cries out as she rushes over to you two, hugging you both.
"I thought you were giving us privacy?" Jamie asks with a smirk.
She shrugs, "Well, I didn't hear any yelling and thought perhaps you ended up fucking, which I'm kind of disappointed you aren't." She holds out Jamie's shirt, "This would be yours."
Jamie takes it and pulls it over his head. He grabs the rest of his things and slips his hand into yours, "Let's go."
Keeley pouts, "Leaving already?"
"Yeah. Gonna have some makeup sex with me girlfriend, 'cause that's what she is, me girlfriend. Me sexy and beautiful girlfriend."
You snort, "You're gonna be so annoying for the next week, aren't you?"
"So fucking annoying," he smirks, pecking your lips and waving to Keeley, "Cheers, Keeley!"
"Bye Keels! And thank you!"
"I didn't do anything, but you're welcome! Love you!"

Hey there! Just finished season 2 of Ted Lasso and I am having feelings for Jamie Tartt. Could I request Jamie being a prick to people who misgender his they/them partner?
Don't be a dick (Jamie Tart x nb!reader)
Rating: T
Warning(s): misgendering, fluff, slight angst
A/N: thank you so much for the request. This was honestly very enjoyable to write. I hope I did your prompt justice and that you liked it!
After a successful match for AFC Richmond, it was time for a press meeting. And Jamie, who had scored the winning goal, was up next. You were in the crowd, close to the back to not draw much attention. This was about him after all. But you did want to be there to support him.
You were always supportive of him, being by his side through a lot. And until recently no one knew about the nature of your relationship. But recently some tabloid articles had started circulating. You weren’t a well-known person. Not famous by any means. So there wasn’t a lot out there about you. So you figured it was only a matter of time until people started asking. You almost didn’t want to be in the press room for this very reason, but you stuck it out for Jamie.
The first few questions started rolling in, pretty tame and mostly about his match performance. “How did that play come about?” “What’s next for Richmond?” “What’s next for you?” All the standard questions asked at these kinds of things. And he answered them perfectly, at least you thought he did.
But then someone had a different question.
“What do you have to say about the dating rumors revolving around you and an unnamed guy?” A journalist asked and you could feel yourself deflate.
“First off, they aren’t a guy. Second off, my private life is private.” He shrugged. You kept your head down even more, definitely not wanting to be noticed now.
More hands went up and you could tell he was a little annoyed. But he kept going anyway. He pointed to another reporter.
“So you are seeing someone? Is she another athlete or well-known in other areas?” The reporter asked.
“Again, I’m not going to speak about this. I’m not even sure if they want to be associated with me.” He shrugged. You almost laughed. Of course you’d want to be associated with him. But you loved that he wasn’t speaking for you. You hadn’t really talked about making your relationship public but you wouldn’t be opposed. It was just a lot to be known in the public eye for something like that.
“So you and her aren’t on good terms?” The same reporter asked. Jamie frowned.
“Their pronouns are they/them. Don’t be a dick about it.” Jamie said. You couldn’t see the reporter’s response to it, but it obviously wasn’t good, as Jamie continued talking. “Alright, get this guy out of here.” Jamie said. Soon after, the man was escorted out.
You were shocked but didn’t say anything. You didn’t want anyone to see you.
“Anyone have anything else to say?” Jamie said, testy with the crowd. But the crowd was silent. The next few questions went back to football. You were more than relieved at that.
As the media junket finished up, you made your way over to Jamie and he walked with you out of the media room. He didn’t seem the least bit surprised to see you there.
“Pretty eventful.” You commented once you were alone.
“I don’t like people being shitty towards you.” He shrugged and you kissed him. He was sweeter than he gave himself credit for, you were sure of that. He was a lot more than he gave himself credit for.
“Well thank you, I appreciate it. And about everything, I don’t care if we go public or if we don’t. I’m fine with either. As long as you're comfortable.” You said.
“I was going to say the same thing. As long as you’re comfortable.” He said.
“Then how about we just don’t do anything about it. Act normal. Who really cares?” You offered. He nodded.
“I like that idea.” He smiled at you, taking your hand in his. You both made your way out of the stadium after saying your proper goodbyes and getting everything you needed.
You didn’t care who saw you as you walked hand in hand. People would think what they wanted. As long as you had Jamie by your side you wouldn’t care.

Jamie Tartt prompt: Jamie finds out that it was Rebecca and not Ted who did the ManCity switch.
Hiya! So this is short and sweet but I may do a longer version some other time.
Enjoy!
Jamie doesn’t hold grudges. Okay he does, but usually they’re well deserved. Like Sam and Dani getting a shit ton of praise after playing less than stellar (Sam was a fantastic player) or being injured (Dani was an amazing striker). Or like Roy for acting like he was the shit (still one of the best midfielders ever).
Alright so maybe he’s a little petty.
He does feel totally justified for holding a small grudge against Ted for letting him go. From how it had been explained to him, all Ted had to do was say he wasn’t going to bench Jamie for the rest of the season. He knows on some level that if Man City had really pushed, Ted wouldn’t have much of a choice. Still, he’s pretty sure that Ted hadn’t said anything at all. Jamie remembers the exact moment he got the call saying he’d been recalled. He’d run through so many thoughts and feelings, he was surprised he had any left. The first was definitely ‘what the fuck’, which had been followed by shit he was leaving Richmond. It wasn’t that he hadn’t wanted to leave…. He just didn’t want to. He’d actually been bonding. Fuck sake he’d given a whole talk on why he was a prick. He’d shared a bottle of alcohol with the lads. That was when he’d started getting angry. Because fuck that. He’d started to feel like he might have a place with the team and it had gone and gotten fucked. When things got fucked, Jamie blamed someone else. And all he could think was Ted fucking Lasso had done this. He probably wasn’t chipper enough for the yank.
So maybe, just maybe Jamie did something a little petty and spiteful. And maybe he called Ted a twat to one too many people.
Getting Richmond relegated hadn’t exactly felt like justice but Jamie would be lying if it hadn’t felt a little good. Not in a ‘fuck you I’m the best’ kind of way, more of a ‘fuck you how could you toss me’ way. His dad ruined it and Ted saw he’d ruined it. Jamie wondered, fleetingly, if Ted had actually fought for him to stay. The little soldier he gave him followed him everywhere. He’d even swallowed his grudge to ask Ted if he could go back to Richmond. He didn’t hold onto it, he’d actually been pretty good at hiding the minuscule resent he may still bare.
They’re drinking. They just won a match and they’re living it up at one of the many bars around. Or everyone else is. Jamie is maybe three sips into his first beer. He’s never been a big drinker, especially not when he’s in the on season. He’s not ruining his physique thank you. He doesn’t mind though, being one of the few that doesn’t really drink. Drunkenness lowers a lot of walls. He sees people behave in ways, not that they never would, but in ways that they normally wouldn’t. Isaac is very cuddly, Colin’s accent gets so Welsh he may just actually be speaking Welsh. Sam compliments everyone in his immediate radius. Dani dances and strips. Jamie likes that his team is so bubbly. He slides into a seat next to Ted briefly. He knows he should congratulate the man, or at least one is his coaches on the win. Even if he thinks Roy is fucking ancient.
“There he is!” Ted cheers. He pokes Jamie’s chest a few times. “Our star player.” Jamie feels warm and gooey about the compliment.
“Course I’m the star.” He says. “I’m amazing. But congrats Coach, couldn’t have done it without you yeah.” Ted smiles at him and it strikes Jamie as a little off. It’s too wide, bright with a gleam of something. He’s drunk Jamie realises with a start. Ted Lasso is wasted. Jamie doesn’t think he’s ever seen the man drunk. Maybe shy of tipsy but never outright drunk.
“Thanks Jamie.” Ted slurs slightly. He drapes an arm over Jamie. “I’m real proud of you.” Jamie’s body is taut from the unexpected touch but he melts into it eventually. “We’ll be back in the premier league lickety split.” Ted seems to find what he just said hilarious. Jamie smiles as Ted starts repeating lickety. The arm is still over his shoulder and Jamie feels like he and Ted are having some sort of in cahoots meeting. It’s like being secretive, hidden. He feels emboldened to ask.
“Why did you let Man City take me back?” He asks. Ted stares at him for a while, like the question didn’t fully go in. Jamie thinks maybe he crossed some sort of line.
“Honestly Jamie? I didn’t.” Ted says. He waves his other hand, Jamie watchful of the glass in it. “I wanted to keep you.”
“Oh.” Jamie says, glad that no one can see him blush slightly. “Then why’d I get sent back?” Ted looks like he’s mulling it over. Like he’s thinking if it’s something he should tell Jamie. “Was it me? Was I too… pricky?” His voice comes out small. He knows he wasn’t the best behaved but he didn’t think it was enough to have him sent away. Ted’s arm tightens around him, rubbing up and down. It’s probably meant to console him but Jamie just feels a bit claustrophobic.
“Hey now, it wasn’t you.” Ted slurs. “There was some hijinks. Rebecca had some things going on and that’s it. Wasn’t your fault.” He smiles at Jamie, who is processing that Rebecca sent him away. He never really spoke to their owner other than occasionally spotting her with Keeley. Maybe it was because she hadn’t wanted him and Keeley close by or something. Maybe she thought he was a prick. He’s not entirely sure and mulls it over. He wants to be mad at her because why would she boot him? He’s Jamie fucking Tartt. But he’s already wasted a lot of time and feelings on this. He can’t go through it again (he doesn’t think he wants to know).
Jamie thinks that’s enough discovery for one night and starts to slip out of Ted’s grip. He’s got drunk teammates to get home.

This is so fucking important. Ted Lasso gets so many things right about mental health and growth and forgiveness. But giving James Tartt a redemption arc by having Jamie forgive him is such trash.
James is a monster. Being a drunk doesn’t automatically make you some type of predator. This man didn’t just hit Jamie, psychologically and emotionally abuse him, he paid for him to essentially be r*ped at 14. 14! By someone who would have been a fully grown adult!!!
Like?!?
And Jamie doesn’t even seem to get why that’s bad? Like he brushes right past it?!
And it’s never mentioned again?!
We see him fully disassociated when dealing with his dad? To the point that he does it with Ted when Ted yells about practice?
And he’s just….looking at pictures with his dad and laughing about it? Laughing about what is most likely childhood photos from a life that had an absent father and then an abusive one….
No

I’ll never stop being mad about it honestly. Season 3 leaves a lot to be desired and it’s infuriating when seasons one and two are so good
