Among The Baggages

After 28 years of being a follower of Jesus, I’m finally reading through the story of the Kings of Isreal through 1 Samuel.

Reading through Saul’s anointing, I’m so encouraged. After Samuel anoints Saul as the to-be king, it says that Saul would “...be turned into another man” (10:v6) when the Spirit of the Lord rushes upon him. It says when Saul turned to leave from his prophetic word, “...God gave him another heart.” (10:v9).

I’m here thinking: “That’s me! I experienced that too, Saul!” God also gave me a new heart! We are one in the same!

But then I go on to read that when it came time for Samuel to call him out as King (in the same chapter of him turning into a new man with a new heart), he was.... hiding.... in the baggages.... and the people had to run and take him out of there. (That’s embarrassing). 

Did he fall? Was he being humble? Was he hiding?

This begged me to question... With a new heart and a new mind; are we as believers stewarding it well? Or are we (even after our anointing) just hiding? Hiding behind others? Hiding behind our fears? Our inadequacies?

God gives us revelation, projection to our destinies. He gives us new hearts. But it’s up to us to do something about it.

Father, thank you for your love. For counting me worthy of allowing me to be someone better than myself. May I never let it go to waste.
