Yoo, Amane Trial 3 MV dropped early?!
youtube
Day 15 of Milgramtober: Amane/Skeleton
(CWs for child abuse, death imagery, minor flashing images)
Song by The End of the Asterisk by Los Campesinos!: The End Of The Asterisk (Remastered)
This video has captions! I'm not sure if I aligned them correctly so if you see any issues please do inform me!
Technically there's no skeletons here but there is a egregious amount of coffins so I think it counts.
I like rambling about art process so that's going under the cut:
I'm trying to exorcise the ghost that is "Amane Momose could be dead" from my mind so I can stop thinking about how close my blorbo was to dying so boom- whole animatic about her dying and being dead.
A lot of this was really fun, as you might notice I have a lot of fun framing things so very much an enjoyable experience.
Fun fact: The flowers weren't supposed to be symbolic of anything, they were just generic flowers, and then 1moremilgram-enjoyer made this really good Kotoko post and it in there's flower symbolism breakdown and my brain kind of short-circuited and now they mean things! Flowers are white lilies and baby's breath respectively but I'm not good at drawing plants so it probably looks a bit off.
I feel like the standard of quality for animatics rose gradually over the years and I'm not sure how to feel about that. Does not help my anxiety but ah well I did this in 3 days give me a break.
In the middle of doing this at like...2am there was a sudden quick brownout, which happens a lot where I live but I did not save so I panicked. Luckily opentoonz has autosave and I didn't lose too much but that was still terrifying.
I think Amane Momose "exists" in the times she was most in pain and that makes me want to explode btw.

AMV, MMD & animation recs!
do you want all my bilibili bookmarks? Bilibili is a chinese site similar to youtube, where a lot of creatives post their AMV, MMD, edits, etc. You can fall into it for hours... I recommend clicking around. Here are my fav videos.
if you wanna search through the plethora of MMD on your own, there is a comprehensive tag.
Disclaimerz: I wish this list could adequately represent my personal love for Nene x Amane x Tsukasa, or at least my love for HanaNene and AmaTsu equally, but unfortunately, content does not exist in equal measure to my passions. There are almost no AmaTsu MMD for some reason, despite there being plenty of AMV and original animations. HanaNene has many MMD, but honestly... many of them are rather plain/boring, and don’t celebrate the uniqueness of the dynamic, so I don’t bookmark much. So, you should browse bilibili yourself after clicking around my list to get a start, if you don’t already, because you might find tons of content that suits you ♥
Just be forewarned that not all video thumbnails are an accurate representation of the content within, and you’ll kind of get ‘tricked’ by thumbnails a lot, lol. I thought providing my list might help you get a start.
Absolute favorites:
Animation: Yellow Amane x Tsukasa. A beautiful animation! It respects everything about Tsukasa and Amane's history, their attachment.... a beautifully chosen song. Beautifully imagined, beautifully drawn. Amane closing Tsukasa's eyes as he says "It's safer to think that way.".... my favorite part..... It's so incredible to see something which remembers and considers so much of their past. The blood striking the radio.... Tsukasa's stabbed body below the horrified Amane, stars and night sky in his emptied chest.... holding hands at Tanabata, kissing sparklers together..... powerful juxtaposition! Reference to Tsukasa being kept hidden, tucked away, in the visuals and lyrics.... this is really my favorite video of all. The video itself is relatively gen, but this artist does draw them kissing in their other work, lalalalalla hahahaha ♥ lyrics in english
Animation: Mermaid A gorgeous Hanako x Nene video set to a very appropriate song!! I love that it centers on a very specific time in the narrative, when Nene first meets the living Amane himself..... lyrics in english here. It’s so rare, but it’s something that really pays respect to the pain Nene feels, loving the tragic boy she does.
VA IMITATION: "YOU ARE KING" Gen. a very talented vocal imitation of Hanako and Tsukasa's VA, singing a song together! You can read the lyrics here in english.  My favorite part is Tsukasa's "onegai" and "darling, darling" His part has a kind of sweet devotion and ache to its tone!
animation: 7150 days Amane x Tsukasa! Ah... this video is so ardent and sincere. It's using traced panels, which feels like such an effort....I'm glad this person wanted so badly to convey this message, and put it together. the song is carefully chosen. The shots are very sweet... it touches my heart. Lyrics in english here.
MMD: MONSTER Gen. Oh one of my favorites. More tiktok-flavored in its editing, very new-age, but I accept it, it's fun! I love this song for Hanako loool ♥♥♥ SHOULDN'T HAVE MESSED WITH HIM!!!! ARE YOU READY FOR THE MONSTER??????
AMV: Indoor Kei nara Trackmaker (BIGWAVE remix) Gen. this AMV has such amazing on-beat editing! The song is literally meaningless, but this video-- I watch it all the time-- because it does such a good job playing Tsukasa and Nene footage side-by-side, making everyone feel so similar! Such a delight! There aren't really AMVs for Nene x Amane x Tsukasa, so this is the closest I get haha.... ♥
MMD: "Otome Kaibou" A really nice Hanako x Nene MMD that respects the canon dynamic and events really well...! It also includes Picture Perfect boy, which is SO EXCITING. The person making this clearly put a ton of love and dedication into it. Maiden Dissection is a good song for Hanako to sing, really.... english lyrics here.
MMD: "Tokoyo" Gen. Though made by a shipper, and likely considers that element to Tsukasa. Ahhh this one I like a lot-- interesting editing, and a really good song choice. I’m glad at least one Tsukasa MMD exists which really considers his long existence, his patience. Very atmospheric. The lyrics in english here.
AMV: FREAKSHOW nice editing. I love anything that embellishes Amane's creepiness ♥ An appropriate song for him! It does a good job representing both Hanako x Nene, with some Tsukasa thrown in ominously, like he's a distant memory..... ♥ I love the part it plays Amane saying "Yashiro" many times.
animation: Otome Kaibou Amane and Tsukasa! Oh gorgeous perfect drawings of Tsukasa.... feminine, luxurious, elegant. The song itself is relevant for Tsukasa or Amane-- english lyrics here. The visual in the music video itself for this song, pertains to communication deteriorating between people over time (speaking with a tin can, a radio, etc).
Other favs to parooze:
AMV: "TASTE THE FLESH" ok so this one is just a horny AMV, Amane x Tsukasa. But here's the thing. It's not wrong. This edgy song suits the feeling. I mean. What can I say. Tsukasa would like you to give it to him harder and let loose. He would like your teeth to sink into his flesh.
AMV: ?? uh. Amane and Tsukasa  hypnotizing short edit, layering his introduction on the roof with music..... very addicting to rewatch again and again.
MMD: "LAMB" Gen. I don't feel a special way about this song's lyrics. I just like that Hanako does jerk-off motions in this MMD. Thanks for doing jerk-off motions and then saying Aishiteru. I-- thanks. it's not all deep for me. The hammer/stabbing motions also do it for me. The lighting's also so nice!
MMD: "Bury a Friend" Gen. oh such a funny song, but good for Hanako, what can I say! I loooove the "careful♥" part... very Amane ♥
AMV: "MINDBRAND" Gen. This video feels like it's just for you to stare at and oggle Amane... let's stare at him together.
AMV: Cradles Gen. I like this song. Short, simple, but, a nice Tsukasa-centric AMV.... not too many of those, given the anime’s limited footage.
AMV: MINDBRAND another Mindbrand AMV, BUT THIS TIME it's actually someone doing an impression of Hanako's VA! So, it sounds like him singing it. The editing is nice, as well! Hanako x Nene centric.
MMD: DOUBT Gen. Lol I love 21 Pilots.... simple, short MMD. Well, good for Amane's feelings..... it’s gen, buuuuut.... I like to think it pertains to Tsukasa.... ♥ I love the line "gnawing on the bishops. claw away at their system. repeat in simple phrases. someone holy insisted." mmm ♥ God blesses you Amane ♥
MMD: Monster(2) Gen. another Hanako MMD set to this song! There's a lot honestly, everyone understands it suits him, lol. This one has different motion data though!! Honestly I love when people put him on his throne. Nice and crazy. Now that's my boy!!
MMD: The Wolf Gen. Hanako be on his throne. It's simple but pleasant. Good to register this possessive dangerous beast.
MMD: I dont know this song ♥ Gen. I just like to see him run around. Don't you. Lookit him go. It scares me when his pupils suddenly disappear or go black. Kinda a good simulation of being on mr bones wild ride. He is... insane.... hi.
MMD: "AUTOPHAGY" Gen. A RARE TSUKASA MMD. There are so few, it breaks my heart. Trust me that this list would be more if there WERE more. I'm begging for scraps. I don't think the song really suits Tsukasa at all, but the animation is fun nonetheless, and I'm unwilling to not include the little Tsukasa content there is. Please know he’s not underrepresented for a lack of appreciation, but simply because... there’s not much. MMD are either solo Hanako, or, HanaNene. There’s not even more than 2 Amane x Tsukasa ones. ):
MMD:  .... I don't know what song this one is... ♥ Just a really cute Hanako x Nene MMD, with Nene in a cute outfit, matching him!
MMD: "Shake" Gen. well. it's just Hanako shaking his hips creepily. Why wouldn't you want to watch that.
MMD: SOLO Gen. ok this one is really funny. I watch it and pretend I am Tsukasa and Nene in the audience. Lookit him do his little moves. This is what MMD is all about. Watching a little dance. The single-finger waggle is very 'Hanako'. OOoohh teach me a lesson!

Let It Out
Written early in the morning for hananeneweek. The final installment for the Where the Shores Meet series. Inspired by this amazing artwork drawn by @sunny16504.
Amane was practically dead on his feet as he shuffled through the front door. Tentatively, he glanced around the entryway but to his surprise, there was no loud cry or cheery voice to greet him. He stepped through and toed out of his shoes, setting them beside three pairs facing toward the door. Hesitantly closing it and wincing as the lock clicked into place. When no one arrived, he pursed his lips and furrowed his brow, hanging up his school bag on the hook beside two small jackets and one overcoat. His hands working diligently at the buttons of his own coat as he peered into the sitting room and then the kitchen, finding both of them empty.
Which was more off-putting than anything considering the time of day. Normally, when he returned home late there was someone waiting for him. Ready to tackle him the moment that he stepped through the door. Lately though, or at least for the past week or so, he’d been finding that greeting less and less though he couldn’t understand why. Rubbing his chin, he decided to head upstairs and listened out for the familiar thump and patter of feet. Reaching the top of the stairs, he blinked owlishly at the folding ladder leading up to the attic.
It was still out.
Checking his bedroom, then the other, he frowned and scratched at his head before deciding to take his chances. Taking hold of the ladder, he climbed up wrung by wrung until he reached the darkened room. The hatch leading to the rooftop was open and he could hear soft laughter and giggling, his eyes softening as he followed the sound. His hand pressing against the glass as he pushed the window pane aside, poking his head out and peering around. On the veranda built onto the makeshift observatory tower at the top of his home, the view of the stars was much better without all of the light pollution.
Although he had to ask his wife and was nearly ready to plead, she conceded easily and smiled at him as he cheered. His heart pounding as he climbed up, closing the hatch behind him. The stars were everywhere and the moon was full, hanging high in the sky and bathing the world in a silvery glow. Beneath it, standing at the railing where his telescope was, his wife was adjusting the scope in the same careful manner that he showed her.
“Nene?” Amane called as he walked across the veranda, raising his hands when she startled. “It’s just me.”
“Amane…?” She smiled widely and laughed heartily, side-stepping a checkered blanket covered in toys, action figures and pages with doodles of stars and suns and moons. Her arms wrapping around his neck as his found home around her waist. His cheek rubbing against her shoulder as ashen teal locks brushed against his chin, tickling beneath his nose.
“I thought you wouldn’t be home for another hour,” she said as they parted, holding him by his shoulders. “Did Tsuchigomori-sensei decide to let you off easy?”
He wished. The day that happened, he would be an old man. With a shake of the head, he pressed a kiss to her temple and eased his hand to rest at her hip while the other tucked in his pocket. They walked side by side to his telescope and he was pleased to see that it was realigned properly. Pressing another kiss to her cheek and listening to her weak protests as her arm wrapped around his back and hugged him close to her side.
“Doesn’t matter,” he admitted, nuzzling her forehead. “I’m home. Though, I did miss my usual greeting,” he whispered close to her ear.
Her nose wrinkled and she swatted at his chest, a smile playing on her lips. “They have been looking forward to this for a week now, it’s the first clear night since the rainy season started…”
She was right about that. Night after night, it was difficult to see the heavens as clouds and heavy mist covered the moon and its stars. He couldn’t stand the disappointed faces as they gazed out the windows mournfully over another night lost.
“Speaking of them, where are they?”
Looking up at the observatory tower, Amane shielded his eyes with his hand. His wife squeezing his side lightly and a shiver ran down his spine at her hold. She flashed him a smile then cupped her hand around the side of her mouth.
“Tsukiko! Hikari! Your dad is home!”
The winding staircase leading up the observatory tower had an echo and Amane could hear the thunderous footsteps quickly approaching. Clamoring, a bit of bickering and apologies before the door swung open to the veranda, sending some of the pages scattering across. Two children with unruly dark hair and nigh identical features coupled with ruby eyes that reminded him far too much of his wife’s shot out from the doorway, hurrying across the  veranda into his waiting arms.
A loud cry of “dad” both warming his heart and making him want to cry. Their little faces tucked against his stomach, tiny hands clutching at his coat and pulling. His heart leaping into his throat at the contact before he relaxed, feeling his wife’s hand on his shoulder. It was difficult. Associating touch with happiness rather than pain, genuine love rather than its twisted counterpart.
“Evening you two,” Amane greeted, pressing a kiss to the top of their heads to hear those soft giggles. “Your mom said that you were planning something for me.”
Hikari was the first to pull away from him, eyes widened and smile practically too big for his face. “Uh-huh, Tsu and I did a thing!”
“You did a thing..?” Amane glanced up at Nene and she shrugged. “Okay, what’s the thing?”
Tsukiko was slow to let go of him but followed his brother’s quick strides to the papers they left lying around. Picking up one after another and bringing them back to show him each one. They clamored over one another to talk about what they’d done, pointing at things that he couldn’t quite make out and others he could. Their focus shifting to their mother when she complimented their artwork, giving Amane a moment to look them over.
His job as a teacher made him prone to pointing out inaccuracies but he couldn’t bring himself to when he saw his childrens’ drawings. Pictures of their family standing atop of the moon, holding hands and smiling. He glanced up at the moon, full and beautiful. He may not have been able to go there but he had his own moon right in front of him and could always see It whenever he wanted.
Sifting through the papers, Amane took stock of each one until he heard Tsukiko and Hikari’s bantering turn into bickering. Nene trying to calm the boys before they fought and a grainy image of his own childhood painted across Amane’s mind. The papers were tucked away in the inner pocket of his coat as he approached, kneeling on one knee. He took habit of doing it when speaking to his sons. Never wanting to tower over them or make them feel small.
His hands settled on the back of their heads, guiding two sets of ruby eyes to him.
“What’s wrong?”
It was Tsukiko who pointed a finger at his brother. “Hi said that I’m still too small to use the telescope, but we’re both small, dad!”
“Nuh-uh,” Hikari shot back, brushing aside his brother’s finger and pointing at him with a slight pout. “Mom said that I’m older by two whole minutes, so I’m two whole minutes bigger than you.”
Amane tilted his head, glancing up at Nene to see if she could make sense of this. Her lips were pressed tightly together and twitching but the amusement was in her eyes. He could already see the story that she would write about this playing out in her mind.
“Honestly…” he ruffled his sons’ hair. “Tsukiko, Hikari… you two…”
Their bickering died down and they stared up at him widely, making Amane pause in mid scolding. Although they had Nene’s eyes, they inherited her features as well, seeming softer and smaller. But they had his sharp tongue and his unruly dark hair, and shared his fate of being bound to another person by blood and appearance. Distantly, he yearned for Tsukasa. Despite their differences, his brother was still his brother but they were far too volatile in their love for one another to be healthy for his sons.
Or for Nene.
“You’re brothers, and it’s alright if you don’t always get along but… you’re supposed to help one another. Tsukiko, your name is part of the moon… and Hikari, yours is light. The two of you need one another to shine and you might not always like it. But, would you want anything to happen to your brother…?”
Both boys looked absolutely guilty as they looked toward one another, shaking their heads vehemently. His sons were gentle children although they could be mischievous. They were playful and sweet, and filled with morals that confused Amane at times but reminded him wholly of Nene.
“If Tsukiko is small…” Seeing Tsukiko’s protest, Amane repeated. “If…” His gaze drifted to Hikari as Tsukiko deflated with a huff. “Then it’s your job to help him, Hikari. Not tease him. Alright?”
Hikari’s jaw clenched and he nodded firmly, his head bobbing and hair falling in his eyes. Amane smiled and brushed his hair aside, stroking the back of his knuckles against his cheek. “Good. Now, I want to see what surprise you two had for me.”
They perked up immediately, racing to the stool that Nene set down for them to climb up on to use the telescope. Lingering behind them as they helped one another up and balanced on it to adjust the telescope for themselves, he wasn’t surprised when her arms wrapped around his own.
“They’re better listeners than most students,” Amane said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Tsuchigomori-sensei says that I go on and on about space when there’s plenty of other scientific topics to talk about. But how are any of them as important?”
Nene rolled her eyes fondly, squeezing his bicep as she hugged his arm closer. “As long as you’re not giving them a hard time like Kou-kun, isn’t he the new P.E. teacher?”
“Mhm. The school is going to be whipped into shape by the time we have a competition. Kou really doesn’t play around…”
“And Yako-san?”
“Still causing trouble in theatre. Did you know that she offered to pay for all the production as long as she got the show that she wanted for this years’ play?”
Nene sighed. “Well, she did say that nothing would stop her.”
“Still…” Amane shook his head, pillowing his cheek against the top of her own as he stared up at the heavens. “How is your writing going? Still have a bit of blockage?”
“Nope!” Nene chirped proudly, setting one hand on her hip. “After the boys left with Aoi-chan and Akane-kun, I managed to finish one whole chapter!”
“Oooh…” Amane clapped his hands as best as he could. “Did you use that kabedon thing you were talking about?”
Her cheeks burned red and she swatted at his hand as she laughed.
“That’s not funny! I told you not to mention that again.”
“No, no, you said not to surprise you again, there’s a difference!” He pecked her forehead, and the anger drained from her face immediately. Her eyes wide and adoring as she smiled.
“You’re really too much still.”
“Sorry not sorry..”
“Dad!” Two voices called out, waving over from the telescope. “Mom, come look! You can see Venus from here!”
“Venus?!” Amane grinned and started hurrying over but a tight hold on his hand kept him from crossing to them. Tsukiko and Hikari’s faces frozen with their smiles and hands raised in the air. Even the wind and the sound of birdsong stopped and Amane’s smile steadily fell, turning to look over his shoulder.
“… Something wrong, Yashiro?” He asked softly, curling his fingers around hers and squeezing tight. “Tsukiko and Hika—”
“Hanako-kun…” Her eyes were wet with unshed tears as she guided him back to stand in front of her. The warmth that he felt from her touch was no longer there and his heart ached for it as he grasped at her hands uselessly. “You’re taking care of yourself, right? You’ve been coming back more and more lately…”
His heart stammered in beating and from the look on her face, the one on his own must have given him away. “It’s peaceful here,” he admits, glancing down at his feet, the drawing of their family and their smiles tugging at his heartstrings. “I want to stay here… Yashiro. With you, and with them…”
“Tsukiko and Hikari wandered into this Boundary years ago, and I kept them safe.” She smiled affectionately at the boys staring up at the sky. “They still don’t know that they died, or why… and that’s alright. When the time comes, their dad and mom will tell them… when we’re all truly together as a family.”
Amane pressed his lips together and shook his head, trying to shake off the words. He wanted to go through the motions with them. Watch the stars until the boys fell asleep, share a kiss with her under the moonlight, carry them to bed and eat a quick dinner before falling asleep talking about everything and nothing. He couldn’t have that if he woke up. He couldn’t have it if he accepted what she said.
Her hands pressed to his cheeks and the warm trails running from his eyes were brushed away.
“Hanako-kun…”
Amane willed himself not to open his eyes, trying to find the warmth in her grasp, to ignore the sound of the tide. The Far Shore where her life was taken away.
“We’ll wait for you…”
The warmth built and his cheeks felt wet, his hands grasping at her own wrists but his fingers passed through them and a seething sob choked from his throat.
“Once your job is finished, we’ll be right here waiting for you. Right here…”
The waves crashed against the shore and he breathed in the salty air and the aching pain. His eyes slowly opening, staring at the wood of the third girls bathroom stall. The bathroom was still cleaned properly but he had no other assistant. The Mokke deciding to take on the task since his former one’s passing.
Stepping off his perch, he set his hand on his shoulder and swiped it clean across the air, his cape appearing in a flourish. Once his duty was finished and he was released from his contract with God — perhaps he would grant him the ability to see his moon once again.

So, I watched the Death Note movie.
Tumblr media
I have an unpopular opinion for you: I actually liked it.
Now, before you jump to my throat with this, hear me out for a sec.
I’m a huge DN fan, as you probably know if you’ve been following me for a while. I’ve read the manga and watched the anime several times and in several languages. I’ve watched about every live adaptation, including fan-made material. I cosplay. I write fan fic and opinion essays. I draw fan art. I roleplay. Blah, blah, blah.
So yes, I take my shit quite seriously, and I could hardly explain how much DN has changed my life. Then why the hell did I like Netflix’s adaptation?
1)    I knew, from the very moment I found out Netflix would make an American adaptation, that it wouldn’t be really Death Note. It’s miraculous enough that Ryuk and the Death Note exist at all. Yes, I was pissed at the beginning, but I decided I wouldn’t watch this movie as a hardcore fan, but as a regular person watching just any film. Guys, we all knew it wouldn’t be loyal to the source material. That doesn’t make it into a terrible movie by itself. Just… don’t think about it as an adaptation, but as a completely different story with vaguely similar character names.
2)    And that’s actually alright, given that Netflix never meant to target us unconditional DN lovers. The creators knew we’d all watch it, at least to properly hate it, anyway. This movie is aimed at people who probably never got in deep touch with the series before and are just looking for some entertainment. So yes, the plot has been twisted beyond reason, but you should at least admit that, if you all weren’t DN fans, you would’ve found it interesting, to say the least.
3)    N’s DN is a gross, unforgiveable White-wash, and we can all agree on that. But in terms of business, the decision wasn’t all that bad. I’ll take my mother as an example here. I tried to introduce her to the series before, several times. But ever since her lil’ girl became this weird weeb writing now, she sort of rejects anime and Japanese culture in general (I know. She’s a monster. She’s also a racist, a homophobe and damn I could keep on going forever. Unfortunately, there are lots of people like here out there). However, when I told her Netflix would make a live, American adaptation, she was actually thrilled. “Now that it’s not all cartoonish I can actually enjoy the story!”, she said. Be honest: how many people out there reject anime without even giving it a try, just because it’s “Japanese cartoons” and it’s “weird”? N’s DN is WhiteTM trash. But it’s still a good business. Sorry.
4)    About characterization:
Light Turner. Edgy as fuck? Overreacting? Take a chill pill? What the hell happened to cunning, sociopathic prodigy Light Yagami? “This isn’t good. I actually like him”, said a friend of mine while watching the movie. God, I was upset. This isn’t the Light we all wanted so bad to see at all.
Or is he? That ending, for Kira’s sake. Friendly reminder that Light Turner cold-bloodedly wrote Mia Sutton’s name on the Death Note, and even specified how she, while falling to her death, would rip that one page from the Note, which would eventually be burnt down. He literally sacrificed Mia to save himself and even planned a few days ahead so he’d brush off the police’s suspicions and get the Note back in one shot. All of it written in detail in the Death Note, everything executed with impeccable acting skills to match his smarts. He fooled Mia into believing him to be that naïve, way-too-emotional boy, to the bitter end. He looked at her in the eyes with devastation as she fell to the death he had staged for her. If that’s not the sociopathic manipulative piece of crap we all know and love, then I don’t know what it is. And if he managed to pull that off, then I can’t say for sure he didn’t pretend to be a naïve, stupid boy from the very beginning. As to Nat Wolff’s abilities as an actor, I think he did an amazing job with what he was given. He’s super expressive, and managed to bring to life a very complex character.
Mia Sutton. Bitch! Manipulative as fuck. What the actual hell. But! Misa Amane had always been reckless when it came to using her power as the Second Kira. She makes rash decisions and cares little about anything and anyone, herself included. Also, she’s ready to do anything, and kill anyone, to get Light’s attention and monopolize him. It’s only natural that Mia doesn’t quietly sit and watch while the Light Turner she fell for fades away, because Misa would do something about it. You all guys said you were pissed at Misa for being so stupid, then why hate Mia? In the end, she remained true to Light. She loved him for real. And the only reason why she snatched the Note from him: because that was what Light specified she’d do! It wasn’t even a choice to begin with.
Have you ever wondered if, only maybe, ever since Mia suggested that they changed the world together, Light has been thinking of ways to get rid of her? I believe he manipulated her through and through, just as he fooled us all. I believed he wanted Mia to underestimate him. He wanted it all to culminate in her death, without ever looking like the bad guy himself (quite a Light Yagami thing to do, in my opinion). That’s why I think Ohba and Obata said they loved the adaptation; because they could see beyond the façade, while we all easily fell for it.
L. I have no words here. Lakeith Stanfield did a superb job at portraying L with all his quirky habits and characteristic speech, plus that more childish, Watari-deprived side of L we don’t get to see very often in the original series. Not to mention that perfect Japanese! In addition, the fact that the most intelligent character in the story, and one of the main and most loved parts, was given to a black actor is amazing. This deserves our approval. Stanfield’s job is about the only thing about N’s DN we can all agree was a good decision.
Watari. The only thing that pissed me off is that his name was actually just Watari. Otherwise, I freaking loved the man.
Ryuk. Superb. No negative comments whatsoever. Awesome choice of actors. Acceptable animation. All in all, that’s some good shit.
5)   About the movie as a cinematographic piece: It was quite good. The choice of music was excellent. In regards to lighting, color contrast, angles and shots, beautiful. Special effects were quite alright, and all in all it was very harmonic, visually-wise. And it sort of managed to compress lots of context in an hour and a half in a logical way. Some moments, like Light creepily walking into the dim-lit dining room or rolling his eyes white into their sockets will never leave my mind.
There’s much more I didn’t cover in this post, so if you find any holes in my arguments or have further doubts on topics I haven’t talked about, please get in touch with me, so we can properly discuss it.
Well, if this hasn’t been enough to convince you, feel free to keep on hating N’s DN. You can also clog my inbox with anon hate or tell me I’m an idiotic whiteTM trash for defending this piece of crap. I just needed to state my opinion. Who knows, I might have changed your perspective on the whole subject for the better.
By the way, the cosplayers on the picture above are @lassieonvalium as Light and me as L.
