every episode of daredevil s1 is just
karen and foggy, bonding and earnestly trying to help others even in the midst of constant fear and danger: “hey i wonder what matt’s up to right now. i hope he’s okay!”
hard cut to matt having the worst day of his fucking life, taking 1,000 points of bludgeoning and psychic damage
#just started my fourth daredevil rewatch#i’m normal about this i swear#dare i say one of only like 3.5 consistently good marvel shows?#i absolutely dare#3.5 might be kinda generous ngl#daredevil#marvel

here's some of the moments during my rewatch of deadpool & wolverine that were gold for my dad (an x-men/blade/ryan reynolds fan)'s first viewing:
- bye bye dance (dk if he knew that wasn't ryan dancing)
- the happy hogan chauffeur joke
- dopinder's airpods "joke?" "story?"
- yukio like.. pursed her lips up at one point? and my dad thought it was funny so he mimicked her
- he also just loved the wade/yukio moments
- the different code words for cocaine al and wade used (also the delivery of ryan saying "motherfucker" got him for some reason)
- the pegging/hookers joke
- seeing the different wolverines
- THE THOR JOKE (every mention got him)
- "get my country's name out your fucking mouth"
- "haha! not the will smith reference."
- me: *didn't even clock the reference my first time watching the movie*
- the captain america/johnny storm misdirect
- johnny falls
- every hit is followed by my dad being like "ohh. oh. oh. OHHHHH!! damn."
- "i'm marvel jesus. mj if you nasty."
- my dude started CACKLING at that
- idk if my dad remembers all of the xmen series because he didn't recognize toad that much. he did recognize sabertooth tho.
- sees antman skeleton lair
- "yooooo that's dope though!!"
- every drunken logan scene was a blast for him
- his disgusted reaction to nicepool's hair
- his equally disgusted reaction to mary puppins (he liked her tho)
- his even more disgusted reaction wade making out basically with mary puppins (+ immediately sung lady in red tho)
- the honda odyssey scene (idk if he understood the implications. mind y'all he was half asleep)
- "coexist?" he said
- that was his only reaction
- "is that carmen electra" - my dad seeing elektra for the first time (he did see the movie years ago)
- i think he missed the daredevil joke because he was busy laughing at another one
- "ohhhh blade!!!!"
- "you need to watch blade" "I'M WORKING ON IT DAD!!"
- laughed at the "i don't like you." "you never did." joke (blade: trinity is his favorite blade movie for those who don't know or ya know, couldn't tell)
- "ohhhh gambit!"
- "is that...IS THAT REALLY CHANNING TATUM???" (all of the flashbacks of us arguing about channing being gambit coming to the forefront of his mind)
- still isn't sold on it. thinks he's too buff. love the buttery nuts line he said tho
- sees laura
- me giving him a refresher on who that is
- dad: "ohhhh, she's older now!!!"
- laura and wade saying "let's fucking go"
- my dad "hey, did they just copy what logan said earlier?"
- campfire scene
- "you got the wrong guy."
- "you were always the wrong guy"
- dad laughs "yeah dad, you suck."
- dad enjoying wesley snipes as blade
- "there's only one blade"
- "deadpool looks at the camera (referencing blade's reboot coming soon-ish)"
- me and dad "technically he's right."
- dad: "well they're still working on the movie"
- me: "yeah but they went through five directors already"
- dad: "you right. you right."
- blade: *gets stabbed once*
- dad: "ohhhh"
- me: "it was one stab... he's fine."
- me: *forgot why laura had her backpack on* "she could just take the backpack off"
- dad: "she just like you" (after getting home from class i tend to leave it on)
- me: "heyyy"
- dad: "sings the dora "backpack" theme song
- cassandra making a sling ring portal and giving the boys a five second chance to go back to their world
- dad: "you know what would be fuc-messed up? if she closed the portal and they just died."
- "ngl i thought that's what they were gonna do."
- cassandra nova touching people
- me: "imagine having some chick's dirty long fingers inside your head and nose"
- my dad "THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!"
- laughed at kidpool's wolverine's dick line
- confused at the beheaded zombie wade wilson
- *lightskinned stare fourth wall break* "the proposal"
- "what the fuck was that? bitch, is that what you think i do?"
- dad: LAUGHS (i think he just likes when ryan cusses. he laughed every time he did. but also my dad just really loves ryan reynolds. they have the same humor. tbh the delivery was really good though)
- laughs at nicepools death (i don't blame him)
- logan: *puts on mask*
- dad: "oh he's going old school"
- paradox explaining matter and anti-matter going through someone's body
- my dad, the science fanatic "yup. you gonna explode."
- me: "i know scene just got you excited because they speaking your language."
- "it did."
- madonna's like a prayer plays
- my dad, a madonna fanatic, immediately starts singing
- "he's risen baby girl."
- dad: laughs
- me: sings along to iris
- "put your greasy tits away you preening slut"
- dad: laughs HARDER
- mary puppins comes back
- dad: "ofc"
- mid credits tribute to fox
- "is this the last one?"
- "no it's a tribute to fox. remember disney bought it. wade explained it in the movie."
- "RIIIIIIGHTTT!"
- *sees little dafne*
- "she was so little!"
---
before y'all say anything. no he didn't seen the end credit scene but he did enjoy the whole movie though!!!
this is all the reactions i can remember. i remember him also cackling reall hard at a joke but i don't remember what it was at all to save my life (i think it was when wade said "the gays understood" when they were talking about the multiverse. he also clocked the scoutmaster kevin joke and went like "ohhhhhh damn."

My opinion on the Multiverse Saga so far.
So I know that Phase 4 was incredibly divisive and with Quantumania’s reception Phase 5 has already started the same trend. I don’t know if I am just easily pleasable but here are just quick thoughts on the Multiverse Saga.
WandaVision- Outside of having mild issues with the finale, great show. 9/10
Falcon and the Winter Soldier- Loved Walker. I mean I liked other things but by himself I loved this show. I thought the Flag Smashers were interesting but not too sympathetic in the grand deal. 8/10
Loki- Fantastic show. Enjoyed every character. HWR is fantastic in the finale. Favorite D+ show so far. 10/10
Black Widow- Fairly standard MCU movie. I liked Natasha and her family, Yelena especially. Also while I was not outraged, Taskmaster was boring. 6.5/10
What If?- Outside of some continuity issues, namely I am still confused as to how Thanos got 5 stones in 2015 in the Infinity Ultron episode and thinking that the Thor grows up as an only child episode could have gone in a more interesting way than he becomes a party fratbro douche, I really enjoyed this show. Hyped for the Tony and Gamora episode once Season 2 happens. 8/10
Shang-Chi- Just rewatched it last night. Fantastic, one of the best origin movies in the franchise. 9/10.
Eternals- It’ll have to take a rewatch, but I remember liking this movie in theaters. Maybe it was just because the sense of scale was impressive and made it an experience but I enjoyed it. Also some of the characters were great (Druig, Makkari, Thena, Gilgamesh) but it was kind of a mistake to have 10 new characters. 5.5/10
Hawkeye- Really liked this show. Great checking in on an underrated character, great seeing Yelena again and Kate is a great addition. 8/10
No Way Home- Loved this movie. Cemented Holland as my favorite live action-Spider-Man. Just an experience to watch it in theaters. 10/10
Moon Knight- I really hope Isaac comes back in some other project. He made this show. Other than that, nothing too special though the ending of the fourth episode is about as stunned as I have been watching anything ever. 8/10
Multiverse of Madness- Definitely requires a rewatch but I remember liking the movie for the most part but thinking that in spite of Olsen’s amazing performance, Wanda’s story was mishandled. Also the trailer did seem to imply the multiverse aspect would be played up more. 7.5/10
Ms. Marvel- Loved Kamala, loved Bruno and thought the first 3 episodes and finale were great, but the villains sucked and the 4th and 5th episodes were fairly boring. 7.5/10
Love and Thunder- I do think this movie has some good parts. The ending was great, when he did have screentime Gorr was great, Thor and Jane’s romance felt real unlike in the Dark World. But I agree with the point of the movie was too jokey. Also Korg seemingly dying but being reduced to a face that still makes annoying jokes and stating the obvious annoyed me almost as much as 3PO seemingly dying in Rise of Skywalker and then there being a back up memory file. 6/10
She-Hulk- Liked this show. Didn’t think there was anything special about it good or bad. Thought the last 2 episodes were great. Liked the fourth wall breaking though disliked Matt and Jen having sex since I was a huge Matt/Karen shipper from Daredevil Netflix. Also while the CG wasn’t that good I never thought it was terrible. 6/10
Werewolf By Night-Just really liked this, hope they do this sort of special more often. 9/10
Wakanda Forever- Loved this movie. While Ironheart’s introduction was a little clumsy and Ross’s plot is also clearly all set up, everything else is great. Namor is a great villain, I thought Shuri was thankfully a way better character than she was in any prior movie and Ramonda was just sublime. 9/10
Guardians Holiday Special- Just loved this special. Gunn has done no wrong in the whole franchise. Can’t wait for Guardians 3. 9/10
Quantumania- Loved Kang though his introduction has been clumsy. Scott is great as always and so was Janet. Also parts of it were just so wonderfully bizzare. On the other hand, Hope was just so irrelevant, and Cassie’s character change was kind of too abrupt. 6/10
Guardians 3- Just I have basically no words. It's absolutely fantastic. Rocket and Star-Lord in particular are done so well but it is just such a great finale to Hunt's trilogy. 9/10
Secret Invasion- This show generally sucked. Good first episode and the individual performances are great and Sonya is fantastic and that's it. Hated Talos's death, hated the Rhodey reveal. Hated the surprisingly low amount of intrigue and surprise. Also insane that Fury couldn't find the Skrulls a planet considering that Thanos's planet with the garden is empty. 3/10
Loki Season 2. Fantastic. If this is Loki's finale then it was a great ending to one of the best MCU characters ever. OB is fantastic the expansions to every old character except for Sylvie is done really well. OB is fantastic. In spite of his real life issues Majors is awesome. 9/10
The Marvels- Loved Kamala, The primary dynamic between the three leads is great, the Young Avengers setup was cool. The sequence where the Flerkens eat the SABER people was actually really funny. Kamala's family are great. Fury is entertaining. On the other hand the movie is too short and Dar-Benn is not a terrible villain but could have been great. 7/10

Okay. Okay, so I just finished a fifth rewatch of Moon Knight s1 and I’ve been devouring the comic runs since the final episode came out and here’s what I want from that elusive second season (hopefully a third and maybe even a fourth one too). Hear me out. I want it to go all in and embrace that tagline they used and get chaotic with it. Let me explain (and just a warning this is gonna get a teensy bit graphic):
First: Moon Knight is a brutal character in the comics. He even makes a point of telling someone that on a scale of Spider-man to Punisher he’s not that far below the murderous vigilante. While he may not, for the most part, cross that line (with one notable exception that drove an entire run and has influenced the character since) he doesn’t exactly hold himself back, even carving crescent moons into the foreheads of those he’s come across in his mission for Khonshu. What especially, and specifically, caught my attention was the somewhat recent set of issues that established Jake Lockley as the more violent and merciless of Marc’s personalities and being so because he was created to do so. A characteristic they’ve already introduced into the show, which I’ve written about here.
Next: The MCU has somewhat folded in the Netflix Marvel series into their universe with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, who will also be getting his own Disney+ series. Now we’ve yet to learn if it’ll be a continuation of the character’s arc started in the Netflix series or if that was just a Matt variant and we’ll be getting a soft reboot. I’m rooting for the latter mostly because what a waste that would be otherwise but also because it sets a precedence for the future graphic nature of the MCU Disney+ series moving forward. The Daredevil series (along with all the other Netflix Marvel shows, though I didn’t watch Iron Fist and never will) is savage and doesn’t hold back on showing what vigilante justice truly means. A perfect springboard for the next season of Moon Knight I would say, especially given that those shows may not have been in the wheelhouse when the first season was being written and shot.
And: As much as I disliked Multiverse of Madness for oh so many reasons it did bring gruesome deaths and horror elements into the MCU. Which means more room for Moon Knight to spread it’s crescent shaped cape so I’ll give it that.
So: I want Moon Knight season 2 to lean hard into the vigilante justice aspect of the character. The current run in the comics is Marc using his Mr. Knight personality to aid the ‘travelers of the night against those who would do them harm’. Obviously, in the series Mr. Knight is Steven’s armor (not exactly ceremonial, of course) from Khonshu but there have been several different iterations of the Moon Knight costume in the comics that would serve Jake Lockley well. It’s clear that if we do get another season that Jake will be the driving force for Marc and Steven to internally wrestle with. How interesting will it be to see Jake to be doling out escalating violent vengeance that leaves Marc/Steven with the dawning horror that they’re not the only ones in their head? Then having to agree to allow him to help defeat whatever big bad they bring in for the season because they actually need his brutality? I want that and I think the MCU needs that to keep pushing their story telling forward.
Yeah, that’s what I want from the next season of Moon Knight and dear Khonshu I hope we get it.

*couGH COUGH* making another post cuz I don’t particularly feel like reblogging that other post *finger guns* also adding a read more because this got a lot longer than I expected whoops
So my dad and I used to be really into watching shows together, and though we don’t watch TV much together anymore, there were a few good shows (we’re trying to make our way through the second season of Luke Cage so we can watch the second season of Iron Fist and then the newest season of Daredevil so THEN we can watch the fourth season of Flash so I can finally finish season six of Arrow but that’s besides the point) and well one day we were trying to figure out what to watch (after a lot of scrolling I found that we had just gotten done with Limitless just an fyi). One of these occasions I told my dad that American Horror Story looked good and he told me no lol (I ended up watching it by myself anyway don’t tell my dad)
Anywho my dad stumbled upon Heroes and he was like “how about this” so I read what it was about and me being me was like “sure”. I can’t for the life of me find out when we first started watching it, but according to the watch history thingy on Netflix, we watched Collision on August 1, 2016. Just to let you know
I don’t know when, but Netflix decided they wanted to get rid of the show, so the little caption thing appeared saying that it was leaving October 1 (yes I looked it up and I’m sad to say that that was the same day Psych left and I never realized that)
So, like I said a while ago, it was a race against the clock to finish it
Offhand comment but I would like to let you know that my dad had watched it before and I had no knowledge of this while we were watching it together and it bothers me. But that’s neither here nor there
We finished it on.... 9/10/16. And it left just over half a month later, so it pretty much disappeared from my mind. So that’s the story of how I started watching it. But then there’s the story of how I got into it
So the following winter/spring (winter ends in like April where I live so I would say the end of winter but that’s just a guess) something happened that I’ll explain in a little bit. First some background stuff:
I have this friend who used to be OBSESSED with DeadRising (I don’t even know how I remember what it’s called). She was especially obsessed with a Very Specific character. That character is Dylan Fuentes. If you don’t know who he is, do yourself a favour and don’t look him up
Well anyway she was like “Dylan is the best fight me” and I said that he wasn’t and that Sylar was the best. Why did I say Sylar? I have no idea. My life probably would’ve ended up completely different if I said someone like Matthew Keller or the Seventh King (the Silver King? What do I even call him) or some other bad guy. But no I said Sylar
So there was this whole thing with this list of “Dylan vs Sylar” where we asked people who was better. I don’t remember how I explained Dylan but I’m pretty sure Sylar got more votes
It’s autumn now which means the next school year. I got myself a school laptop now and I don’t know I think I was looking through emails or something and I found an email talking about the Dylan vs Sylar thing. And I was like “oh my gosh I remember this let’s see if I can find Heroes online”. I found it on Crackle. And I find it hilarious that I can’t remember this part even though it happened more recently than the rest of this but I can’t remember if I decided to watch it by myself or I first started rewatching it with a friend. I have no memory of rewatching it on my own but I remember considering myself obsessed by the time I got him to watch it, so I think that’s your answer
At one point I got into Heroes fanfiction and that was a treat. By this time I was already into the habit of writing, and I was in the middle of a Team Red fic that we won’t talk about. I don’t remember if I first started reading Heroes fics on Ao3 or FFN, but if it was Ao3, then my first ever Heroes fic was either deleted or this and oh my gosh I can’t believe I forgot to mention that the reason I started shipping Petlar was because of a photoshopped picture (you can probably guess what I’m talking about) and I remember downloading it and angrily thinking “I shouldn’t ship it cuz they hate each other and yet”
fun fact the first fic I read was a White Collar fic that I only read because the two people at my birthday sleepover were like “let’s read fanfiction” and I felt left out so I looked up White Collar fanfiction on dA
Okay back to me writing fanfiction. I first started writing Heroes fics as crossovers (my first Heroes fic was a White Collar crossover and it’s so bad and I want to rewrite it), and then it got to non-crossover fics and there you go that’s how a specific fic came about that I’m not sure if I wanna say
Anyway so after that I just slowly got more invested in the show and the characters
Also sorry for the rambling that’s just how I tell stories,,
#how did this get so long you might ask#because i have a tendency to ramble that's why#and now i made myself upset again because i mentioned that buT#that's not the point#the point is that this took half an hour to write#hope you enjoy lol#personal#Primatech#gamebird#gather round it's story time

I was tagged by @apesoformythoughts! thank you!
Rules: Tag 21 people you’d like to know better! (If you don’t know 21 people that’s fine too, just tag who you want)
Nickname: all the variations of Catherine (which is already not my first name) which my dad calls me: Katerina, Kat, Cate, etc
Zodiac: not only do I not buy into astrology, I'm starting to realize that signs are more complicated than I initially imagined and thus I actually have no idea what my sign even is.
Height: 4′10″ and a bit
Last movie I saw: The Little Mermaid, 2018. You all witnessed that beautiful disaster.
Last thing I googled: Peter Wimsey.
Favorite Musician: if we’re talking Enduring Favorite not just favorite of the moment, it’s either Sara Bareilles or Mumford and Sons. If we’re talking favorite of the moment, it’s Taylor Swift.
Song Stuck In My Head: this utterly charming “Holy Ground”/“State of Grace” mashup
Other blogs: @alwaysalreadygift, the school/theology blog which I’ve done a terrible job updating the past two semesters. @beautypoweranddeath, the now-defunct buffy the vampire slayer blog which I keep open so I can go through my old tags. and @thevampirediariesdiary, the completely unreliable tvd rewatch blog!
Do I get asks: I didn’t used to? but lately I’ve somehow convinced people that I am a Real Blog, which is fun!
Blogs following: 269. most of them are inactive buffy/tvd/teen wolf blogs, because I never seem to get into a fandom until it’s fully dead.
Amount of sleep: anywhere from 5 to 10 hours, depending on how life is going
Lucky number: I guess 7?
What I’m wearing: hand-me-down jeans which are too long for me, and an orange and gray plaid flannel
Dream job(s): tenured professor at a sane university, somewhere near family. theology/philosophy consultant to Mike Schur, or for a mythical fourth season of Daredevil. homeschooling mom.
Dream trip: I’ll happily travel anywhere!
Favorite food: hmmm I’m gonna say pasta all’amatriciana!
Play any instrument: nope! four out of my seven siblings do play instruments, and of the other two who don’t, one is only ten and has plans to pick up an instrument soon, and the other has had starring roles in multiple local musicals. I’m kind of the dud child, musically speaking.
Languages: English; rudimentary reading translation skills in Latin, Biblical Greek, and Spanish - whether those skills are enough for me to pass my exams, remains to be seen. (French is also next for me!)
Favorite songs: (organized into a mini-playlist here) “Poison and Wine”, “Broken Piano”, “Bright Lights and Cityscapes”, “After the Storm”, “The Run and Go”, “Breathe Me”, “Are We There Yet”, “I Hate Seagulls”
Random fact: I wanted to double major in theology and dance for undergrad, and was actually accepted to the dance program on a probationary basis, but I figured Going To School for the first time in my life would be hard enough without worrying about re-auditioning for my major halfway through the year, so I just started out as a theology major.
Describe yourself with aesthetics: mismatched bookshelves, studying at train stations, large mugs of tea, leather jackets over lace shirts, Degas’ little dancer, small sugary rainbow candy, iconography, traditional English hymns in four part harmony, all the ingredients for a big meal set out on the counter prepped for cooking, braiding other people’s hair, linking arms with friends while walking, vampires.
I tag @shieldmaidenofsherwood @mademoisellesarcasme @coruscanttojerusalem @and-back-to-normal-life @motleysaint @iamfitzwilliamdarcy @theofficestan @septembersung @anarnianfox @thegriffin-blakefamily @digorykirke @contagiousgrace @consoleyourself aaaaand anyone else who would like to join in!

I got tagged in this by @wolfiejimi (holy shit I love your blog) I’m answering it here because I barely use my main blog anymore, it just comes up when I like things.
1. Relationship Status: the seagulls from Finding Nemo screaming Mine!Mine!Mine!
2. Lipstick or Chapstick: Peggy Carter Red, whether it’s appropriate or not, because red lipstick is always appropriate, fuck you. But the one from Burt’s Bees, so it’s technically chap stick.
3. Three Favorite Foods: fresh snickerdoodles, any kind of pasta in sauce, and iced coffee.
4. Song Stuck in Your Head: currently none, but I probably just jinxed it.
yeah I did, High Hopes from p!atd and Glitter and Gold from Barnes Courtney. They don’t blend at all.
5. Last Movie You Watched: fully finished? Black Panther. (holy shit holy shit is that a good movie, ooooh my god). I re-started Tintin tho. (its fucking cute! and one of the first books i remember reading)
6. Top Three Shows: Bones, Hawaii Five-0, and Star Trek (all of them).
Also, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow (but only up until Oliver and Felicity got together), The Good Place, DareDevil and the Blacklist. Oh and Riverdale.
7. Books I’m Currently Reading: Um. Jack Reacher: The Midnight Line (Lee Child), Drape Expectations: A Caprice De Luca Home Staging Mystery (Karen Rose Smith) (don’t judge me, they’re popcorn books and cute), From Krakow to Krypton: Jews and Comic Books (Ari Kaplan) (very interesting read), Stan Lee’s How to Draw Superheroes, and Sprig Muslin (Georgette Heyer). Oh yeah, and so many fanfictions. So many.
8. Last thing I googled: “Lothario Synonym”. For the trainwreck of a fic I just posted.
Notable mentions: “Mister Rogers”, “Movies like Jumanji (2017)” and “Jim Kirk Fanart” for references.
9. Time: 4:30.
10. Dream Trip: DISNEYLAND. PRECEDED BY WATCHING EVERY ANIMATED DISNEY/PIXAR FILM. AND HAWAII. and like the entire world. I wanna see everything.
(Honestly we already planned our retirement - a year long cruise around the world.)
11. Anything you want: Art supplies. For someone to teach me how to use those supplies properly. Speech to text tech that can help me write while I daydream. THE FOURTH STAR TREK MOVIE TO BE MADE AND MADE WELL. for people to stop arguing and just start fucking fixing things like they should. For the world to be a better place for my kids, because fuck if I trust it with them yet. For that dress to go on sale, I beg you, I need it. For an excuse to get dressed up in a ball gown and go to a masquerade. to be able to draw like I want to instead of my current skill level. For all my fic ideas to be written by someone else but exactly right because I don’t have the patience to write them out myself. A ghost writer that’s what I want. To rewatch Naussica of the Valley of the Wind. And coffee. I want another coffee.
Rules: Tag 15 people! Like wolfie-jimi said: I’m just going to tag whoever the last 15 people in my notifications/who followed me/who interacted with me in some way/whose username in some way stands out to me for good or for ill. That seems democratic. Or something. I feel so awful if I have to actually choose people. Like I’m judging you all. So this is judgement free selection. Think of it like jury duty, only more flippant and less intensely problematic. (literally i just left their words here)

RIP to arguably the most popular Marvel Netflix show, and the one that started it all for Marvel over on Netflix.
According to Deadline.com: This was Netflix’s statement about cancelling Daredevil.👇🏾
“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix,” the streamer said in a statement tonight to Deadline. “We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.”
Hmmm... this makes me put on my conspiracy theory tin hat though, because the wording could be verifying my previously posted theory about Marvel purposely allowing all their Netflix showd to be canceloled so they can go on to live on the soon to be active Disney streaming app, Disney+! 🤔🤓
The Deadline article goes on to say this too... 👇🏾
“While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel,”Netflix said also.
“Future projects for Marvel? Hmmmmmmm... you mean like Daredevil Season 4 on Disney+? And/or perhaps even a Heroes For Hire or Daughters Of The Dragon series? 😈
And the final piece of the puzzle that tickles my nerd conspiracy whiskers is the part of the article mentioning Vincent D’Onofrio (aka Daredevil’s amazing villain, the Kingpin). 👇🏾
Overall, the cancellation of the series starring Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who had been tweeting about a fourth season in the past few weeks, shows just how strained relations between Netflix and the Jeph Loeb run Marvel TV have become. A far cry from when their multi-series deal was first announced back in 2013 with big smiles and almost bigger plans.
The current state of affairs became painfully evident when the SVOD player abruptly pulled the plug on a third season of Luke Cage last month. One week after Iron Fist was pink slipped, that October 19 cancellation of Harlem’s Hero came after nearly half the scripts had been written for a Season 3 and a formal renewal had been considered a foregone conclusion.
I feel it in my gut, the Marvel Netflix characters/shows will live on in some form over on Disney+ - it’s just too much easy money for Marvel/Disney to pass up.
Daredevil and all the other Defenders on Disney+ = all of the money with none of the (widely reported) Netflix hassles. 👍🏾👍🏾
Taking all the Marvel Netflix characters over to Disney+ is the definition of a no brainer, IMHO. 🤷🏾♂️
Sooo, that’s my theory. 💁🏾♂️
And now... we wait. ⏱
*cues up all the Marvel Netflix series to rewatch them (except for Defenders of course, because UGGGGHHHHH)*

2017 Year in Review
This past year was, to put it mildly, rather tumultuous. For every high point of the year, there seemed to be low points all around it. But now the year has ended, and hopefully, this next one brings more good and a hell of a lot less bad than its predecessor. However, as said; 2017 wasn't all bad, and this is what I've decided to write about today. Finding myself inspired by the myriad of posts about people's top five or ten games, movies, shows, and so on, I've decided to continue that trend and catalogue the media I found to be exceptional, the media that helped me through the ups and downs of these twelve long months we just experienced. Some I may have written about before, and some will be new, but all of them deserve praise and recognition abound...at least, in my opinion. So without further ado; here are my most enjoyed pieces of media I experienced in 2017.
We'll start this article off by discussing a category I haven't really discussed on this blog before - music. The reason I don't usually write about music is due to how disparate my preferences can be for this particular media medium. Some days, I'm all about hard and the heavy, while others I'll dip into instrumentals, jazz, or video game soundtracks. Hence, the music I'll be listing here won't have much of a comparable flow - I just thought it was all pretty good.
This first album ties into one of my favorite games from 2017, easily a contender for my choice for Game of the Year; the soundtrack to the superb indie game Night in the Woods, as orchestrated by Alec Holowka. The soundtrack is beautifully mellow, pleasantly tuned for ambiance. In the game, the music accentuates and emphasizes all of the game's themes, emotional depth, and down-to-earth feel. Out of the game, the soundtrack is perfect for chilling out, studying, writing, or any such easy-going activity. I frequently found myself playing it in the background whilst reading or doing the few articles I wrote, or using it to relax after a particularly trying moment. Continuing the theme of game soundtracks, another that caught my fancy was the Persona 5 OST, composed by Shoji Meguro. An eclectic mashup of genres, the soundtrack bounces between somber piano, energized guitar, and jazz compositions, with a handful of excellent vocal tracks thrown in for good measure. This album is great for a variety of moods or activities thanks to the numerous tones and tempos the music flows between. And with nearly four hours worth of music to sift through, it stands to reason you'll be able to find something you like.
Moving from video game music, another album I found myself enjoying through the year was Alestorm's No Grave but the Sea. If you're unfamiliar with Alestorm, they fill a rather particular music niche; Pirate Metal, a fusion of piratical slang and heavy metal. Alestorm further accentuates their distinct sound with frequent usage of brass and string instruments, as well as a synthesized accordion. I found myself intrigued by their music several years ago when the band released the album Back through Time, and have followed them since. No grave but the Sea is relatively short, coming in at under an hour across its ten tracks. If you're a fan of niche genres, or just a metal fan looking for something new, I'd recommend you give it a listen. Closing out the music section is Linkin Park's One More Light. OML released only a few weeks after Alestorm's No Grave but the Sea but usurped it in my music library almost instantly for a brief time before the unfortunate suicide of Chester Bennington. In fact, I would call One more Light one of Linkin Park's best albums, despite it being the starkest departure from the band's hard rock sound to date. That isn't to say the album isn't heavy, though. One More Light is heavy in tone, as opposed to sound; If you want an example, listen to the premier single "Heavy" or the titular "One More Light", and you'll get a firm grasp on how the album feels. One more Light clocks in at a short but sweet thirty-five minutes, and I would wholeheartedly recommend taking the time to sit down and listen to it in full.
TV shows take the second slot, though I'll be honest; I definitely don't watch a lot of television. Not live, anyway. Most of what I watch is through streaming services, so a few of these aren't technically from 2017, at least not in full. But since I first watched these shows in 2017 it counts. Without further ado, here are my favorite television shows I started or finished in 2017.
Kicking off the television roster is Twin Peaks. If you're unfamiliar with the show, Twin Peaks was written and directed by David Lynch. It stars Kyle MacLachlan as the charming and amusing Special Agent Dale Cooper, a federal investigator sent to the enigmatic small town of Twin Peaks to solve the murder of local sweetheart Laura Palmer. Not much can be said about the plot of this show without spoiling it or just plain confusing somebody, but suffice it to say that all they appear to be. Everybody has a secret, and the show doesn't take too long to spiral into the surreal in typical Lynchian fashion. Twin Peaks initially debuted in 1990, earning two seasons and a cult following that lasted the 26-year gap until its third season released in 2017. Long story short; the show is great - It has intrigue, comedy, a wide cast of interesting characters, and a story that will keep you guessing until the end and beyond. The show isn't without its faults and can be flat out baffling at times, but despite all of that the show and its story is a fantastic experience to behold.
The next show on my list both compliments and contrasts Twin Peaks; Broadchurch. Broadchurch is a crime serial taking place in the fictional (and titular) town of Broadchurch, starring David Tennant as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, and Olivia Colman co-stars as Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller. The series kicks off by investigating the murder of local youth Daniel Latimer, before moving on through its three-season run to investigate another murder case and finally a sexual assault, all the while weaving a compelling tale of a small town trying to cope with and move on from these horrible crimes. Broadchurch is a heavy experience, with very little levity to break up the tension of each investigation. That being said, It's still an excellent show with a genuinely compelling narrative backed up by the top-notch acting of the cast.
Setting aside the crime drama, we come to the next show - Voltron: Legendary Defender. Technically, the series' first season debuted in 2016, but 2017 saw the release of the second, third, and fourth seasons, meaning it was a pretty Voltron filled year. Legendary Defender is the latest in the long line of Voltron adaptations, following the Paladins of Voltron as they fight to defend the galaxy from the evil Galra Empire. Now I've never watched any of the other Voltron shows, so I can't speak for their quality (or lack thereof). As far as first impressions to a series go, Legendary Defender couldn't be better. Helmed by DreamWorks and Netflix, and written by the creative minds behind Avatar the last Airbender and its sequel Legend of Korra, Legendary Defender was probably the best-animated show I watched all year. In terms of quality, the show is top notch. Excellent voice acting, great animation, and a fun but serious story that has me eagerly anticipating wherever it goes in 2018.
Wrapping up this section are the many, many Netflix Marvel series. This includes Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and finally The Punisher. I had already seen some of these before but went in for a rewatch in preparation for all the new stuff coming out in 2017. If you're not familiar with these shows, however unlikely that is, I'll summarize each show in a sentence or two. Daredevil follows Matthew Murdoch who, after losing his sight but gaining superhuman senses as a child, fights crime in hell's kitchen on two fronts; as a lawyer, and as the vigilante Daredevil. Jessica Jones follows former street hero turned private-eye, Jessica Jones, as she tries to deal with the aftermath of a traumatic incident in her past while an old foe comes back to haunt her. Luke Cage follows Ex-Con and titular character Luke Cage as he tries to clean up the streets of Harlem and free it from corruption. Iron Fist follows Danny Rand, boy billionaire and sworn defender of Kun Lun as he tries to combat a mysterious organization known as The Hand. The Defenders finally unites these four heroes for the first time, as they all come together to battle the aforementioned Hand in an attempt to stop them once and for all. Finally, we come to The Punisher, which follows war veteran turned vigilante Frank Castle as he hunts the people responsible for the murder of his wife and children. I won't go into an extended review here, so to keep it simple; Daredevil is amazing (though its second season has some flaws), Jessica Jones is great, Luke Cage is great, Iron Fist is fine, The Defenders is amazing, and the Punisher is fantastic...to summarize, pretty much all of these shows are worth a watch.
Now, as I said at the beginning of this article, 2017 was a pretty shaky year. A lot of ups, and a lot of downs. Many of these ups, at least for me, are in the next category; 2017 was a pretty great year for movies, in my opinion. It was a busy year for movies, but when isn't it? For every one movie I watched, there were three more I had to wait on, but pretty much every film I watched in 2017 knocked it out of the park. From comic book films to horror flicks, each one of these movies takes the cake.
The premier movie for this article is Get Out, one of the contenders for my favorite movies of the year. Helmed by Jordan Peele, Get Out is a genuinely uncomfortable horror/thriller about a black boyfriend meeting the family of his white girlfriend. It tells a heavy but undeniably compelling story, one that keeps you guessing and inspires a fair amount of thought after the fact. I won't go into too much here, but I will say that if you haven't seen this movie, you absolutely should. Speaking of movies that make you think, Bright is up next, the new racially-conscious Netflix movie starring will smith and....no, not really. Actually, The Lego Batman Movie is up next; a goofy, charming, and stark contrast to all of the gritty DC movies that have been churned out over the past few years. This movie was genuinely funny and felt fun to watch...something that can't be said about some of the more recent DC films. I've written about this movie before, and my thoughts today still echo that review; This was one of the best Batman movies I've seen. Following The Lego Batman Movie, the next film on my list is John Wick: Chapter 2. There's not much to say about this movie other than the fact that it's a top-notch sequel that keeps all of the pros of its predecessor, and in some cases, improves on them. It isn't a terribly different story than its predecessor; Somebody messes with John Wick, so John Wick messes back by going on a vengeance-fueled spree. It's an action-filled thrill ride that doesn't disappoint.
Another action-filled thrill ride takes the form of Logan, and....wow. Logan is another contender for my favorite film of the year. The movie serves as equal parts finale for both Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman as Charles Xavier and Wolverine respectively, and it does so perfectly. Logan is a shining example of what Comic Book films should aspire to, with an outstanding script, Oscar-worthy acting, and a top-notch story to close out this era of the X-Men cinematic universe. Finally, we come to one of the last movies released in 2017; Star Wars The Last Jedi. I'm sure if you're reading this, you've probably seen this movie. Maybe you liked it, Maybe not. I, however, thought this movie was pretty damn good. One of the better Star Wars films, I think Rian Johnson did well at what he set out to do. I won't say it's the best movie of the year, but it makes my list of favorites.
Finally, we come to the last section of this year in review: Video Games. I actually got to play a fair few of these this year and liked basically all of them. But, this isn't "Year in Review, things I thought were passable". This is "Year in Review, my favorites", and so what follows are my favorite games of 2017. From AAA titles to simple indie games, each one of these had the right amount of fun, charm, and entertainment to keep me hooked and keep me coming back to them time and again.
We'll kick this list off with a game that embodies charming simplicity; Slime Rancher. This game debuted back in 2016 as an early access title but finally released in an official capacity in August of 2017. I didn't think much of it when it came out, just grabbed it since it was free through Xbox Live's games with gold program. Color me surprised, then, when it turned out to be one of my favorite games of the year. I previously wrote about this so you can see my full review here, but what I'll say here is that Slime Rancher is a surefire recommendation on my part. The next two games are anything but simple, at least in terms of story; Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 HD (PS4). I had played these games before, on the PS2 and PS3, but what can I say? Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite gaming franchises out there, and the ability to play it again on modern consoles was a treat. With the release of Kingdom Hearts III on the horizon (hopefully), going back to experience the franchise in full was a fantastic refresher. If you've never played Kingdom Hearts before, getting the modern gen remasters is your best way to experience these games right now.
Following Kingdom Hearts is Persona 5, one of two games I would strongly consider as Game of the Year. I had never played a persona game before this, at least not in full, and this game almost made me regret that. Persona 5 is near perfect, with a great story, smooth and snappy gameplay, and a top-notch aesthetic balanced between its visuals and its sound design. Atlus has a history of making quality games, and Persona 5 is no exception. Continuing from there, we come to Night in the Woods, the second of my two Game of the Year contenders. In fact, were it not for Persona 5, Night in the woods would be the winner for 2017, at least in my book. This is another game I've written about in full and I would recommend reading that review here because I had a fair amount to say. Night in the Woods saw two releases in 2017, once at the start of the year, and once at the end of it. Because of this, the game both kicked off and closed down my 2017 year, and I couldn't have asked for a better game to do so.
That about wraps up my Year in Review. 2017 was a full year for media, and I have a lot to catch up on, but luckily I was able to experience just about as much as I missed. Not everything I did this year appeared in this review, but these were the things that elevated themselves above the competition and took the titles of favorites for 2017. I extend my thanks to anybody who stuck with this blog, or even read just one of my articles in the last year, and hope that the new year is kind to all of you. This year promises to be just as good, if not better for media purposes, so I eagerly await whatever comes next. Here's to a great 2018, folks.
