i am dead set on keeping my professional life & my personal social media 100% separate & nobody really seems interested when i talk about it on twitter but sometimes I do really wanna talk about mental health & therapy! there are so many misconceptions out there & so many legitimate criticisms of mental health providers & just unaddressed societal issues like lack of access to care. before grad school i considered myself pretty knowledgeable about therapy but i still feel like i have a totally new perspective.
someday i’d love to start a collection of resources: different ways of finding a therapist, including very low-cost services or for specific populations, emphasizing that building a strong relationship is the most important part of therapy & if you really don’t click with your therapist you should have the option to see someone else, encouraging clients to question or challenge their therapists & advocate for themselves, what culturally responsive therapy is supposed to look like, helping people understand when & how to file an official ethical complaint about a therapist, basic explanations of common therapy concepts & approaches to therapy, therapeutic interventions that people can suggest to their therapist or try on their own, more information about diagnoses & how the traditional approach to diagnosis is often deeply flawed, suggested readings on different topics, etc.
still working on... finishing school & applying all that to my own life. but! manifesting i get to share that with a wider audience someday
#i am cringe but i am working in a field i'm genuinely passionate about & that can empower people when it's done well#just realized i badly need a shirt that says Ask Me About Feminist Therapy#emphasizing once again that this is Not At All A Professional Account & i'm not even licensed yet#but feel free to ask me for my opinions or suggestions for resources
