Idk if the showrunners realized this while writing the script, but now that I've picked Saavi Ki Savaari up again, I realize why Nityam is unable to admit to even a smidgen of affection he has for Saavi. It's not because he's unable to be vulnerable with other people (we've seen him open up to other characters throughout the show), it's because he sees Saavi as less than him. He looks down on her and doesn't see any worth in her. This is why confessing to her is so hard for him. If he admitted to liking her, it would, for once, give her the power to reject him and deem HIM as not good enough for her. He cannot even entertain this idea because his ego will not allow someone who he finds low-value to devalue him.

Nityam has to have the worst personality in all of ITV I've watched so far. Shlok Agnihotri who plotted to have Aastha fall in love with him only to break her heart as revenge is an upstanding person next to him. Nityam is dumb. Although he's this supposed mega-successful self-made business man, he can't see through even one of the dozens of plots that's being spun against him. Instead he blames all his issues on Saavi. 30 seconds of coherent thought would be enough to realize that Saavi has no reason to be plotting against him 24/7. He's self-centered, childish and immature. He doesn't make even the slightest effort to consider a viewpoint that is different from him.

I'm saying he is far worse than Shlok, because at least Shlok had the decency to be openly evil once Aastha was trapped. He was very well-aware of what was going around him, but he decided to act in the manner he did because his morals were twisted. Meanwhile, SKS is trying to convince the audience that Nityam is a stand-up guy with a heart of gold and that the only thing that stands between him and Saavi are the plotting in-laws. No, what stands between them are Nityam's character flaws. He is the archtict of his own demise, and sadly, Saavi is the architect of hers because she chooses to stay with this terrible person.
