This is the post I was working on that I accidentally sent privately before I’d finished it, LOL. Thanks @imorahtarm107 for sending it back after what must have been a confusing request.
CONT: Rebecca Sugar has spoken before about how much they dislike the statement by press that Bubbline only became “canon” in the finale, because Sugar and Muto were working on that pairing all the way back in s3, those characters have been canonically queer the whole time. It’s not some novelty thing that was canonized at the very end just because everyone else was doing it, or that the characters were only queer and dating if they got to kiss on the mouth!
So yeah, I was a bit salty abouta few things. I mostly thought that season 10 had been underwhelming compared to the spectacular seasons 7 to 9. Honestly, I still stand by that opinion because those seasons were really good.
I felt that there were some other things missing from s10, but some of those got followed up either in the finale or in Obsidian, albeit less in depth than I’d have liked (primarily the fallout to Elements on the side of the Elementals themselves - I thought this was only appropriate considering what happened in Jellybeans Have Power. Are they not terrified of themselves? What are the long term consequences of that takeover, if any? It seems much bigger than the stuff with the Lich that barely anyone knew about.)
HOW MY THOUGHTS HAVE CHANGED
Well, honestly? Just hearing more from the crew about the problems they faced on CN, not just the AT crew but also Rebecca Sugar with SU, it clears SO much up.
Kent Osborne said to Ghostshrimp in a podcast that, even though they knew the show was ending, the team had no idea how many episodes they had left! Unlike the earlier seasons where CN just made block orders of 52 eps, it seems like from s6 onwards, things were far less stable. CN no longer ordered consistent season lengths. I’m not sure if they instead ordered blocks of eps, or if they gave the crew a flexible budget to work from, like Legend of Korra had.
From my observations and theories, the reason seasons 7 to 9 have so many miniseries is possibly because Adam Muto was using those as a way to appeal to what CN wanted out of Adventure Time, and therefore, to prolong the lifespan of the show. It worked really well as both standalone miniseries and as episodes of the show. Olivia Olsen commented that there were many times they thought they were on the last season but it turned out they weren’t. Adam Muto pitched the first eps of Distant Lands originally as miniseries to “extend” season 10. He was probably hoping he would be successful!
Unfortunately, this time he was not successful, and Kent Osborne said that the crew were taken off guard by Come Along With Me being their last ep. When they started work on it, they thought it was a special in the middle of what could be a longer season. Kent even believed they would’ve had another 26 eps left. Adam had to beg for an extra couple of months so they could figure out how they could turn what would have been a gumbald special (whatever that would have entailed) into a finale for the entire show!
Watching Come Along With Me with the knowledge that the crew were taken so off guard changes entirely what I think of it, because what originally seemed like lazy rush jobs - Simon turning back but not having any time as himself, the ep havingt so much going on, the conflict between Bonnie and Gumbald being a bit empty - now feels like the best possible outcome!! How on earth did they make Come Along With Me as good as it was?? They gave so many characters good moments, they had the whole thematic resolution to the land of Ooo and the themes of the world going in circles but nothing staying the exact same, they paid respects to Finn’s growth, and had the outro as the finale song while showing life goes on!
Now that I’ve had so long to process exactly what happened in the ep, I greatly appreciate so many scenes that I previously overlooked or dismissed. The intro sections by Steve and Tom are brilliant at building up tension, which is part of why the second section feels so jarring. However, the dream sequence is so funny, with interesting imagery that it’s still nice to pick apart. Jake gets to be a good brother, Finn gets to battle Fern, and you have that chilling swapperoo epiphany with Gumbald and PB. The scene where they’re all on the beach is so cathartic.
Then the second half of the special is just intense start to finish - everyone working together at the culmination of their character arcs, to take down GOLB! Until the power of a little robot’s song turns out to be the best tool of holding it back, and Betty performs the ultimate sacrifice for her mistakes with a smile on her face. So good. The ending scenes with Finn and the treehouse, Shermy and Beth, the music hole, those are a thematic conclusion to the show.
So, yeah, it did a great job. To an extent it’s better enjoyed if you pick it apart than if you watch it all at once, since it’s unfortunately not as hard-hitting as a lot of the single 11-minute eps of Adventure Time, including the previous season finale Three Buckets. However it absolutely does its job.
As for Bubbline, well... Adam was trying to get the show extended, and if anyone looks at the twitter comment I currently have as my pinned post, then you’ll understand that there’s no way PB and Marcy could have kissed or made their relationship undeniably explicit unless it was the very end of the show :/
Adam said himself that he didn’t see it as much his fight to battle the decisions of execs as Rebecca did. And while that hurts, it makes sense - he was the owner of someone else’s show that is a smorgas board of a large number of people’s ideas, whereas Rebecca was the owner of their own show and felt that if they weren’t able to express themself in their own show, Sugar was willing to completely take down SU. And that actually happened - Steven Universe got cancelled immediately!!! Adam was not prepared to do that with AT, especally when CN were already talking about cancelling it.
The good news is he didn’t give up on having PB and Marcy’s relationship be at least fairly clear, especially s7 onwards. I don’t know what happened behind the scenes, but it’s likely a number of the crew members taken on at that time found it important to press for Bubbline, and Adam decidedly agreed. If someone other than him had taken over as showrunner, or even if Pen stayed in charge (he supported it but didn’t want to be wrapped in controversy), I wonder if they’d have never interacted after What Was Missing :/
So yeah, with that in mind, as annoying as Marcy and Hunson still is, I can forgive the crew for doing a finale kiss. Rather, I can really thank Hanna K for pressing for one - she knows how important it was to at least confirm what people had expected, without a retroactive tumblr post ala Korrasami.

“The Gift to Keep on Giving”
Hey there @the-ill-doctor ! I’m sorry this is getting to you so late but at long last here’s your gift! I had a lot of fun working on your prompt. It was so sweet, it got me right into the holiday spirit lol I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it! And Happy New Year!
Feel free to read your story under the cut or over on my AO3!
There were a few subjects Stanford didn’t think about when moving to Backupsmore. Or at least things he tried not to think about. The holidays was one of those subjects.
While everyone was packing up their dorms for the semester Stanford honestly didn’t know what he was going to do. He hadn’t gone home during Hanukah. The most he’d done was send the Pine’s family a few cards and some presents to give to Shermie. He knew he wasn’t in hot water with his parents, at least not as much as Stanley, but since he hadn’t made it into his dream school things still felt weird between him and his father. If he were to go back to New Jersey for his holiday break he’d be happy to see his mom and Shermie, but he’d be stuck under the same roof as his dad again.
And if he was honest with himself, Stanford didn’t even want to go home for Christmas. Having it just be him, his parents, the baby, all stuck in a quiet house...
He tried to rationalize his decision with extra evidence. He could better optimize his work if he didn’t waste the time and money going back to New Jersey. He could use the break to study for next semester. Perhaps get a head start with the research program he got into. Maybe even begin writing a paper on theoretical physics for the Backupsmore Science Journal.
But he knew the bigger reason why he didn’t want to go back home. Even if he never said it out loud.
He told himself he was fine, therefor he was fine. He’d spend the winter break at school. Doing work. Doing important work. And he’d be fine.
So when Fiddleford McGucket practically demanded he pack a suitcase and come to Tennessee with him it practically ripped apart his original plans.
“No way I’m letting you stay out here in California by your lonesome!” He’d called out as he shoved the last of his coats and shoes into a duffel bag. “You’re my friend!”
“But I don’t even know your family!” Stanford groaned from his bed. Watching Fiddleford race around their dorm like a headless chicken. “Hell, I’ve only known you for four months! Isn’t that weird?”
Fiddleford actually had the gall to laugh and looked over his shoulder. “Stanford Pines! A friend’s a friend, no matter how long you’ve known’em! Besides, if you knew my folks you’d know they love having guests. They’ll take any excuse they can get to throw a party.”
“And you don’t think they’ll find me… Odd?”
Pausing, Fiddleford turned back from his bags to give Stanford a sincere look. “Trust me, you’ll hardly be out of place. I’m sure they’ll love ya!”
“You really think so?” Stanford asked.
“I know so!” Fiddleford declared.
“I don’t even celebrate Christmas, I’m Jewish.”
“Still no excuse to leave you all alone here. Especially since break goes through all of December and New Year’s.” Fiddleford called back. But he stopped for a moment, talking a little slower. And sighing “Ok wait, hold on. If you don’t wanna go, I shouldn’t be forcing ya like this…”
“What? You seemed so keen on me going with you just moments ago.”
“I know, and I want you to. I mean, I don’t want you feeling left out is all. But if you wanna come or not, it’s entirely your choice.” Fiddleford replied.
As he went back to packing Stanford found himself faced with a difficult choice. Continue with his original plan of staying at Backupsmore? Or go with Fidds?
It was true that he’d only known the other man for four month now. But he was also one of the only friends he’d made at school besides one girl and guy in his history class, and his roommate… Kinda. But of everyone he’d come to know it felt like only Fiddleford ever had the patience to actually talk with him. To talk about the things they liked, and with so much in common between them they hardly ever sat in awkward silence.
And despite not knowing one another long Stanford found that he really enjoyed Fiddleford’s company. Together they felt like this unstoppable duo, that they could do anything if they only set their minds to it. And no matter what they’d always have one another to support their endeavors and have each other’s backs.
Stanford hadn’t had a person like that in his life since he and Stanley were kids…
But would it be worth it to leave school, abandon all the plans he’d made, just to spend more time with Fidds?
Fiddleford actually jumped with a tiny squeak when a duffle bag was suddenly dropped next to his.
“Alright buddy, count me in!”
Fiddleford’s eyes lit up. “You mean it?”
Stanford shrugged “Eh, might as well do some traveling. I’ve never been to Tennessee after all!”
Before he could back up, Fiddleford tackled him in a hug. “Aw, thanks for doing this! You’re gonna love it! And just wait until you meet my family!”
“I hope so…” Stanford said with a sigh. He wasn’t completely sure he made the right choice but at least now Fiddleford was happier once again.
“Let me just call my Ma so she knows I’m not dead and I’ll start packing!”
A few days later Stanford found himself on a cross-country bus alongside his best friend. The ride might have been dull had he been traveling alone. But with Fiddleford there trip was much more enjoyable. It didn’t feel any shorter, but at least there was banjo music, talks of science, stories and plenty of good books to keep both of them busy.
And as soon as they left the station after two days of near non-stop traveling, the McGucket family clan was there to greet them with open arms.
After that the next few days became a blur. The McGuckets treated every Christmas like a family reunion so the old farmhouse was packed to the gills. It was a little claustrophobic at times but in some strange sort of way Stanford found himself almost enjoying the chaos of it all.
True to his word, Fiddleford’s family seemed genuinely interested in him. In such a crowded house people seldom even noticed his hands. And even when he did most of the McGucket’s seemed more interested in his hands than disgusted or disturbed. Though sometimes he did find himself uncomfortable around Fiddleford’s grandmother when she started commenting that perhaps he had been marked by a devil. But Fiddleford could shoo her off easily enough.
When Christmas Eve finally came Stanford honestly didn’t know what to expect. In his house they’d barely cared about the christian holiday. The most interest Stanford and his brothers had in it had been all the presents and the candy and the comfort food. But he’d always seen it on television and advertisings. From what he’d gathered as a kid the rest of America seemed to care about Christmas a lot.
And sure enough Christmas Eve proved to be the big red and white party he’d always seen in movies. Funny enough though Stanford expected Fiddleford’s family to be even wilder than the ones he saw on TV, seeing how excited they’d been already. But come Christmas Eve Stanford swore the McGucket clan actually seemed slightly more subdued than they had every day leading up to it.
They did insist on doing a lot of baking though. All day it seemed like there were people working in the kitchen. Roasts, pies, casseroles, cakes, salads, unique recipes Stanford didn’t even know how to categories! And it seemed like everyone was contributing to a massive dinner platter over-flowing with cookies by the end of the night. All for Santa supposedly. It seemed rather excessive but let the family continue doing it, not wanting to spoil all their fun.
Fun… that was probably the biggest feeling he’d gotten from the McGucket’s Christmas Eve. Everything seemed to be so much fun to them. And when he saw the joy that seemed to radiate off Fiddleford he couldn’t help but agree and smile back.
And later as he got ready to go to bed he couldn’t help but think about it still.
“I know that look.” Fiddleford said with a smirk. “Wha’cha thinking about, pal?”
“Not much, buddy.” Stanford answered back, keeping his voice low. With such close quarters not only was Stanford rooming with Fiddleford, but also three of his other cousins as well and they were already fast asleep.
“I guess it’s just… you and your family are a lot different from my own.”
“You think so?”
“My family is nothing like this, I’ve only seen some of my relatives once or twice. And never all at once like this. They just tolerated each other. But you, you and your family, you all seem so close.”
“I think that’s all thanks to my Dad and all his siblings.” Fiddleford said, looking over to a few of his cousins. “They always believed that family owed it to one another stick together through thick and thin. And if it weren’t for them sticking like that, I doubt I’d see these guys nearly as often. If ever.”
“What family owes?”
Fiddleford shrugged. “You know. Looking out for one another? Caring about everyone? My Granny was sure to hammer that int’a everyone’s skulls.”
“It’s a bit ironic,” Stanford realized. Trying to ignore the bubbling guilt in his gut the more he thought about his family and his brother. “Despite being people with such similar interests our home lives couldn’t be any different. I… don’t really like being around my family that much. I didn’t even go home for Hanukah this year just because I didn’t want to see them so soon.”
“Well next year put it on the calendar! Whether we go to New Jersey or not I wanna celebrate Hanukah with you!” Fiddleford declared. Quickly putting his hand over his mouth when one of his cousins grumbled in their sleep.
“You would?” Stanford whispered in disbelief.
“Of course!” Fiddleford declared, trying hard to keep his voice still a whisper. “It’s been so nice havin’ you here. It’s the least I can do after dragging your butt out of sunny California here in the dead of winter! And I’d love to celebrate more things with you. It could become like a little tradition if you wanted.”
“I think I’d like that very much.” Stanford agreed. “And you know there’s more than just Hanukah… I could show you all our other holidays if you like.”
“I’d like that very much.” Fiddleford said warmly. Then he stood up out of his bed and went to put back on his shoes.
“You aren’t going to bed yet?” Stanford asked, stifling a yawn. Usually when they’d slept over in one another’s dorm Fiddleford had always been the first to fall asleep.
“Oh, I was just gonna go help my Pa out in the stables. Apparently the horses are givin’ him trouble settling down.” Fiddleford rushed to say.
Stanford could hardly hear any commotion outside, not to mention hadn’t seen Fiddleford talk to his father once, but he didn’t think much of it. Yawning he snuggled deeper into his blankets. “Alright then, goodnight whenever you do go to sleep.”
“Night buddy.” Fiddleford said before padding quietly out of the room. “And merry Christmas.”
Wondering what would happen the next day, and already dreaming of what it’d be like the celebrate Hanukah with Fidds, Stanford let himself drift off…
If Christmas Eve had felt like an ordeal at the McGucket household, Christmas day completely blew him away.
When he got up the next day it was like he’d stumbled into a completely different house. There was even more decorations placed along the walls and in every nook and cranny of the house. There were so many gifts placed under the tree they took up an entire half of the living room floor. And somehow during the four hours he’d actually slept someone had managed to eat the entire platter of cookies left out by the chimney. And when Stanford tried to ask who did it, he got the same answer the adults gave the kids.
“It was Santa silly! He sure loves his cookies!” Fiddleford declared.
“But I mean who really ate them all?” Stanford tried again. Keeping his voice low just in case any of the children there heard.
Fiddleford looked at him blankly. “… Santa!”
“Ok fine keep your secrets!” Stanford said. “I just wanted to know who could eat all those cookies. And I doubt they just threw them all out, that’d be a waste!”
“You really have no idea how Santa did it?”
“No and this is going to drive me crazy for the rest of the day. You’d have to be in diabetic shock after eating so many cookies at once!”
“Fine! I’ll let you in on a secret.” Looking around to make sure there weren’t any kids, Fiddleford pulled him aside back to his room and pulled out a cookie from his coat pocket. Letting it fall into Stanford’s hands. He couldn’t believe it.
“Wait, you did-”
“It’s a team effort.” Fiddleford replied in a hushed whisper. “Most the grown-up’s stay up to go decorate the house and along the way we clean off the plate.”
Stanford immediately blushed. “I uh-”
The longer he stayed quiet the more Fiddleford’s face fell. “Did you- Did you think only one person was allowed to eat those?”
“I… I hadn’t considered it.” Stanford replied in a quiet voice. He really hadn’t thought of that.
He could tell Fiddleford wanted to laugh really badly, but the man just clapped him on the shoulder, struggling not to fall over and cackle. “Stanford Pines! You’re a genius but I swear you got the perception of a- of a… I don’t even know!”
While Fiddleford found the situation hilarious, Stanford wanted to crawl away somewhere and hide. How had he not figured that out? He was on track to finish his bachelor’s in two years and yet he couldn’t figure out that more than one person could eat the cookies. Fiddleford thankfully didn’t mock him for long before taking him by the elbow and dragging him back towards the dining room.
“Don’t worry though, your secret’s safe with me!”
“I hope so.” Stanford grumbled. “A mistake like that could ruin my reputation…”
Fiddleford shook his head, “Aw don’t be so hard on yourself it happens to everyone! You look too close at the details and you’ll forget what the big picture’s supposed to be!”
Even with Fiddleford’s reassurance he still couldn’t help but feel foolish. Hopefully this was something he’d keep in mind once he went back to school…
He was pulled from his thoughts when someone called out “PRESENT TIME!” and they were all dragged down to the living room where the tree and all the gifts were. It was quite a scene to watch. There were children all over the floor and adults began handing out presents one by one. Everyone seemed to just buzz with anticipation as the kids began ripping into their presents.
Stanford got so caught up watching everyone else he almost jumped when a present was dropped into his own lap.
Fiddleford was quick to apologize, laughing nervously. “Oh dear! I wanted to surprise you. Not startle you.”
When Ford looked over the package he wasn’t quite sure what to say at first. “Fiddleford I- Well, thank you, but I couldn’t possibly-”
“Aw, don’t you worry none. I already got plenty of gifts from all my folks.” Fiddleford said quickly. “I know you don’t celebrate… but I wanted you to feel included.”
“But I wasn’t able to get anything for you. Not to mention the rest of your family.”
“Hey, that ain’t what the holidays are about.” Fiddleford replied. “I got you a gift cause I wanted to give you one, not cause I expected you to do anything in return.”
Stanford still looked unsure, but he decided to let it go for now. And instead went about unwrapping the gift. For all of Fiddleford’s talent and skills, wrapping was not one and Stanford found himself navigating a strange puzzle of weird folds and a ridiculous amount of tape. He was pretty sure it was a book of sometime. Probably a textbook. It was certainly heavy enough. And he could feel a hard cover of some kind under his fingers.
When he finally pulled back all the paper and could read the cover. It was all navy blue with golden trim with a strange looking beast on the front that seemed almost unreal.
“Anomalous Phenomena”
“I thought you might like it. Since you always seem so interested in genetic anomalies. Plus when you mentioned trying to find the Jersey Devil as a kid...” Fiddleford said quietly.
“Fiddleford…” Stanford breathed. “I… I love it! Where did you even find a book like this?”
“Saw at school when they started discontinuing a bunch of books. It seemed like something right up your alley. Thought it’d be a shame if such’a interesting book like that disappeared off the face of the earth.”
Stanford remembered hearing about the library being clear out, but that was weeks ago. Fiddleford had been holding onto this the whole time? Just waiting for the holidays to come, waiting until now to give this book to him. He really thought that much of Stanford Pines?
Ford felt his cheeks start burning the more he thought about it.
“Thank you Fiddleford. I mean it… Truly. For everything.” Stanford said slowly, running over the book cover with his hand. Letting all six of his fingers brush over the golden trim “I think you may be one of my dearest friends.”
“Aw shucks.” Fiddleford said with a light chuckle. “It’s nothing really.”
“Not to me it isn’t.” Stanford replied. He could still feel himself blushing and hoped no one noticed. “No one’s ever done something like this for me Fidds. You, you probably don’t realize what this means to me. I can’t thank you enough.”
“Well once or twice is good enough for me.” Fiddleford said back with a smirk.
Stanford wanted to say more but one of the McGucket youngsters ran up to them and started pulling Fiddleford away for more presents.
“Sorry Stanford, but duty calls!” He said, pretending he was heavier than he was while his younger cousin dragged him back over to the tree to open more gifts. All around him a few more of his siblings and cousins laughed at his antics before they all settled down back under the tree and Fiddleford began passing out more gifts to the rest of his family.
For those few moments it all seemed so perfect. The whole family there. Together. Happy. And Fiddleford near the center of it all, practically glowing with a beautiful smile, golden brown hair and sharp blue eyes that never missed a thing.
Stanford had always thought Fiddleford was a handsome-looking fella. Sure, he’d never said it to the man’s face but he’d always thought it. But in those few moments as he watched him, practically brimming with Christmas spirit, Stanford thought he was absolutely beautiful.
A soft smile fell onto Stanford’s face as he started trying to formulate the perfect gift to get Fiddleford once they went back to school. Part of him still felt obligated, he had to return the favor. But Ford also found himself holding onto Fiddleford’s words. He wanted to give Fidds a gift because he wanted to give him something nice. But what could he possibly give the other man? A man who was quickly becoming one of the most important people in his life currently.
A book? Perhaps something about robots? He was certainly an admirable engineer…
Stanford also made sure to get a couple extra jars of Mrs. McGucket’s fruit preserves and save them for whenever he noticed Fiddleford getting homesick once they were back in school.

AT FINALE THOUGHTS
OHHHHHHHHHHHMYGOODNESS.
OKAY. SO I JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE AT SERIES FINALE AND…. HOOOOOOOOOO BOY. I just sat in silence and stared at my black computer screen after the episode ended for a long time… and my hands feel so numb. I can’t believe Adventure Time is actually over. I’ve been watching this series since 2012 and continuously since 2015… so 6 years invested fam. 6 years and it’s over today.
I really loved this episode because of all the references that it had to all the past episodes. It was really nice to see the AT continuity at work once more, and how everything was so nicely put together in the end.
Another thing I loved about this episode was all the themes & metaphors, the themes circling around being the very last episode of the legacy that is Adventure Time. The themes of: “going on a new adventure” but yet “the fun will never end”. Even though it’s all over, we’ll still keep moving forward, keep living our lives, keep going on new adventures, but yet forever hold Adventure Time dear to our hearts and carry the memories of the past with us. This also kind of reminds me of the Stakes theme, “different but yet the same”, “everything stays, but it still changes.”
"You and I will always be back then.”
This song was just so bittersweet and tearjerking. Even if we haven’t seen each other for a long time, even if we haven’t talked, even if we’ve all gone our separate ways, we’ll always still hold the memories of the past, the precious memories of when we were together, dear to our hearts. Even if 1000 years has passed, despite everything that will happen, is happening, has happened, when we look back upon our past memories, held up like a billion tiny picture frames, you and I will always be back then. And because you and I will always be back then, that’s why, you and I will always be best friends.
“Time is an illusion that helps things makes sense. So we're always living in the present tense.”
We don’t know everything about the past or the people who lived before us, but that’s okay. When 1000 years have passed, the past may be forgotten, our lives may be forgotten, people in the future won’t remember who we are, and sure that’s scary, but it’s okay. Time is an illusion: life goes on forever behind and ahead of us - in both the past and the future. Everything stays, but nothing stays the same. Our own lives are undoubtedly short, but yet it’s important, not because of the fact that we need to be remembered and make a mark on the world, not because we need to write down every minuscule detail so that those in the future will know who we are. Life is important because of the abruptly forgotten happiness and undeniable joy that we experience each and every day, in all of our waking hours.
“Everything stays, but it still changes.”
Things will happen, happening, happened. Adventure Time has happen, happening, happened. Even if it’s over… no matter what, we will move forward and just keep living our lives. We will move on to a new adventure, a new home, new struggles & new people… we will move on to a new journey. So when it’s happening, enjoy the time we have. But when it’s happened, we will never forget the times we shared in the past, the times we shared as best friends and lived so merrily. Things will happen again and again. They may be different, and they may happen to different people in different times, but they will be familiar. Life will go on forever behind and ahead of us, and the people who lived both before and after us will be different, but yet familiar in the ways that matter. Maybe one day everything will come to an end, but because we remember, because we experienced joy, because time goes on forever and we’ll find ourselves in the people of both the past and future… that’s why the fun will never end. So, just go out, live your lives, be brave, have fun, and enjoy the ride.
“Time will unbind our memory glue. And I’ll be as nobody-ish as all of you. So don’t care about a thing now.”
Adventure Time tells us to always live in the present, have fun, and be happy. Don’t care about the past, don’t care about the future. The past has happened, the future will happen. All that matters is to have fun, right now. Dance your heart out. Embarrass yourself. Wear those unused socks you’ve been afraid of getting dirty. Use that untouched silverware you’ve been saving for a “special day”. Don’t care about what other people think. Ask someone out. Go on 3AM spontaneous adventures. Spend lots of time with your friends and family. Cry. Laugh. Live. Love yourself. Just enjoy your life. Don’t wait for the future, don’t fall back on the past. Enjoy it now.
“Maybe by next summer, we won’t have changed our tune.”
A new adventure is starting and we’ll keep living our lives, but you and I will always be back then, and we won’t ever forget Adventure Time. I think this finale portrayed these themes in such a beautiful way through Shermy, Beth, and of BMO telling the story of 1000 years ago.
One thing I was really hoping for in the finale was for it to wrap up all loose plot ends & to have bubbline be canon lol. And I think it achieved both! Although rushed for sure, this finale did manage to wrap up all the loose plot ends. There are absolutely still a lot of things that I would’ve liked to see, more things I wanted wrapped up, more lead up, more character development, more plot & world building…. especially with the open ends that the finale left off. Of course there’s so more that I want to see. I know there’s so, so, so much more story to tell, so many more adventures to go on, so many plot gaps to wrap up. But all in all, for once I can finally say, I’m satisfied with this ending. And I’m glad the crew pulled off this ending, despite the limited time & lead up they had to do it.
I think Adventure Time has shaped my childhood as well as my adulthood. To be honest, it’s the reason I want to keep pursuing art as a career today, why I’m striving so hard now to get into the animation/art industry so maybe I can create masterpieces such as this show. It’s the reason I want to write deep, lavish, and loving stories for others to read or watch. It’s the reason I want to become a hero… just like Finn.
Thank you for shaping me into who I am. Thank you for teaching me how to be brave and how to be myself. Thank you for everything, Adventure Time.
Even though Adventure Time is now over, you and I will always be back then. Let’s go on a new adventure together, and the fun will never end.
Come Along With Me - 10/10
Adventure Time (2010-2018) - 10/10
Thoughts about the finale episode itself below read more. Obvs spoilers.
SO. THOUGHTS… jumbled order because my mind is a mess rn. Will maybe organize later
Shermy & Beth. Descendants or future lives of Finn & Jake? A new adventure. “Everything stays, but yet it still changes.” “The people that come after us may be different, but they’ll be familiar in the ways that matter.”
BMO AS THE KING OF OOO
Having all that stuff in his house, including Grob Gob Glob Grod’s head, princess crowns, Finn & Jake’s signs….
It’s been 1000 years since Finn & Jake huh…
BMO forgetting Finn’s name was really funny at first, but then it felt really bittersweet. It kind of reminds me of this quote from Angel Beats: “Even if we forget the faces of our friends, we will never forget the bonds that were carved into our souls.” Maybe BMO has forgotten Finn & Jake’s names and faces, it’s been 1000 years after all. But their impact and their bonds on each other, are everlasting.
“Have fun on the other side of this door”
I feel like this is a direct comment to the viewers from AT itself… :’(
“What happened to Phil and Jake in the end? Or Princess Bubblegum?”
“Well, you know, they kept living their lives.”
… so bittersweet :’)
It’s so bittersweet to imagine a world without Finn & Jake, a world where they’re not there. But they just kept living their lives, having fun…
I feel like the crew is trying to tell us to keep living our lives, even after the show’s over, even after the adventure’s over. I love this ending. Shoot, I’m tearing up again.
“Thank you for visiting the King of Ooo”
Honestly I feel like all these little things that BMO told Shermy & Beth were metaphors/parallels directed at us viewers. The crew is telling us, “Thank you for watching Adventure Time.”
Really like the dream scene. I was very confused at first, but I ended up really liking it. It was a chance for the crew to showcase and reference past episodes and characters. And I also really like how the dream paralleled PB - Gumbald, Finn - Fern, Jake - Jermaine.
I liked that in the dream sequence, Finn became a butterfly (his past life). Maybe Shermy is a future life of Finn?
BUBBLINE IS CANON
MY FAVORITE OTP SINCE 2015 IS FINALLY CANON WTF OHHHMYGOODNESS THE FEELSSSS
2015 ME IS REALLY POPPING THOSE BOTTLES RIGHT NOW
Yeah sure the reveal/lead up could’ve been better, but I’m honestly just so glad that it happened at all. I think I’ve been dreaming about this day for four years now
HOLY SHIT FERN
HOLY SHIT BETTY
HOLY SHIT SIMON
WHY TF DID BETTY JUST DIE….???!?!???
I know she died saving Simon and destroyed GOLB but like WTF BETTY
“I always thought I’d go out saving someone.”
“No one gets to chose how it happens” -Simon
WTF WHYYYYYY SIMON. That’s hard…
“Please listen to me! We’ve been friends for a long time.” - Finn… Then PB immediately saw Shoko in Finn. Shoko’s metal arm to Finn’s…. Once more all the feels.
“THEY’RE ALL DEAD!”
“Un-Make Me”
FERN IS FINALLY SAVED… his anguish is gone. FINN AND FERN FINALLY FACED THE VAULT. THEY FINALLY FACED THEIR FEARS AND GOTTEN RID OF THEIR FEARS.
Honestly I’ve kind of forgotten about the Vault until this episode. And I’m so so so glad that Vault was finally brought up again, and that BOTH Finn & Fern are finally facing their deepest fears. I think that sends a really good message… to face your fears so you can heal.
WHY DID FERN HAVE TO DIE MY SWEET ANGSTY GRASS BOY HE JUST RECOVERED, DESTROYING HIS TRAUMA AND HE DIED… AND HE JUST WANTED TO SEE THE TREEHOUSE ONCE LAST TIME BEFORE HE DIED OH MY GOD I CAN’T
Finn planting the remains of Fern in the ruined Treehouse
AND THE REAPPEARANCE OF THE FINN SWORD…. TO MAKE A NEW TREEHOUSE. a new journey… a new adventure. FERN WANTED TO SEE THE TREEHOUSE BEFORE HE DIED SO HE BECAME THE TREEHOUSE. the feels are too heavy why is it raining
LUMPS & LEMON. W T F.
Honestly this surprised me more than the Bubbline kiss. Like WTF lol.
GOLB
OMG GOLB FINALLY MAKES HIS APPEARANCE???
Tbh I felt like the lead up to GOLB could’ve been A LOT better rather than just a quick flashback into Simon’s memory when he read about GOLB in a book. But I guess the AT crew did what they could with the limited time they had.
GOLB BECAME BETTY THO???That scene of GOLB leveling up/becoming Betty WAS LIT AF… when everything turned black & white and chalky? OH MANNN I LOVE animations that do that. Kinda reminds of Gurren Lagann or Evangelion lol.
SWEET PEA PROTECTING HIS PARENTS
I really thought that the Lich arc was going to take off again, somewhere, somehow, before the end of the series. But I guess not, I guess the Lich will stay a Sweet Pea forever.
SWEET PEA IS BECOMING BILLY?!?!??
Marcy’s Mushroom War flashback
MARCY ONCE MORE RELEASED HER POWER FROM STAKES AND TURNED GOAT MODE TO PROTECT HER GIRLFRIENDDDD
Simon is finally, finally saved. Although they had to kill off Betty in the process… Not sure how I feel about this yet…
However, if Simon trying to save Betty now? The reverse is happening? That ending scene when he went to visit Prismo… he must’ve been trying to ask Prismo for a wish to save Betty but Prismo didn’t know how, he just shrugged his shoulders. I vaguely remember in the past that Betty has also went to Prismo to ask to save Simon. So Simon & Betty kinda swapped positions now. I just hope all the same thing aren’t happening all over again but with Simon instead of Betty……..
I LOVE BMO’S SONG. EVERYONE STARTED SINGING TOGETHER. IN THE END, MUSIC HEALED AND SAVED THE WORLD. YOU AND I WILL ALWAYS BE BACK THEN.
GUNTER BECAME EVERGREEN/ICE THING?????
Comment from Reddit: If Betty’s intuition was right, the crown reset back to it’s pre-golb state once it was no longer in the confines of Golb. So the crown went back to the default wish prehistoric gunter made; to be like Evergreen.
So like… is Orgalog still there? Orgalog = Evergreen? Would have liked to have seen more details/light on this.
I mean he doesn’t look too evil checking out books at the library and marrying Turtle Princess lol.
I also would’ve like to see more insight about the Elements, since they were just recently introduced, and how the elements all come to play a part in everything.
Was also imagining a Jake death for the finale but I’m SO glad that didn’t happen. I guess Jake’s banana space prophecy dream was just a dream after all.
FINN IS ALMOST THE SAME HEIGHT AS PB. FINN GOT SO MUCH OLDER & TALLER & MATURE. WHY DOES THIS REMIND ME OF FMAB SO MUCHHHH.
I LOVED THE REAPPEARANCE OF THE MUSIC HOLE. I REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVED THE FINALE’S USE OF PAST EPISODES/PLOT/CHARACTERS.
I LOST IT WHEN THE MUSIC HOLE STARTED SINGING THE ENDING SONG. THAT ENDING SEQUENCE D E S T R O Y E D ME. I CRIED SO MUCH. Just watching all the characters go about their post-show lives… UGH these kind of ending sequences in any show ALWAYS GETS ME. This ending just brought back so many FMAB ending sequence feels… :’)
GUNTER AND TURTLE PRINCESS…. WTF LOL
SWEET PEA GRADUATED
SIMON VISITING PRISMO TO ASK HOW TO SAVE BETTY :’(
PB & Lolly hanging out, being pals, singing to Neddy :’)
The fern tree/treehouse 1000 years later. Kind of reminds me of the 1000 years later scene from that one graybles episode.
Normal Man and Margles… I guess he never got to save her, but he’ll always remember her. THE FEELS……..
GIRL SQUAD
BONNIE AND MARCY SNUGGLING IN BED TOGETHER. MY GAY FEELS I CAN’T. Also LOL Peppermint Butler’s “Dark Magic 101″ (wait is he still peppermint kid? lol)
Finn only one arm forever now? Finn didn’t end up with anyone in the end, and I’m actually really happy about that. It was SUCH a great choice to not force Finn into a romance, and I’m loving it.
Finn’s mom & other humans finally came to Ooo!!!!!!!
I liked how the entire ending’s theme is, “a new adventure”, “things will never end, everything goes around in a circle”. This show will live on forever. Especially with Shermy & Beth pulling out the Finn Sword Finn & Jake style. “The fun will never end”.
“It seems unforgiving when a good thing ends. But you and I will always be back then. Will happen, happening, happened. And will happen again and again. Cause you and I will always be back then. That’s why, you and I will always be best friends.”
“Everything stays, right where you left it. Everything stays, but it still changes. Ever so slightly, daily and nightly. In little ways, when everything stays.”
“Maybe by next summer, we won’t have changed our tune. We’ll still want to be with the butterflies and bees. Making up new numbers, living so merrily….”
YOU AND I WILL ALWAYS BE BACK THEN
COME ALONG WITH ME

You probably answered this before, but what are your opinion on Carla and sta/rla? And what do you think about the fans? For me I don't like it. I guess is just how the show showed about their relationship. And what are your opinion on g4g? For me I don't like it either. I would love to hear your opinion. Hope this question isn't a bother.
Hmmm, I think I’ve talked about it before, but I don’t think anyone has outright asked me what I think about it before- they’ve all just been vents or someone wanting to complain with me. This question isn’t a bother at all, friend!
For Carla, on her own and in canon... I don't really give a shit about her??? She's a character that was used as a minor plot point in like two episodes, she has less screentime than fucking GOMPERS for God's sake. Like, it's cute that Stan and Carla dated for a while, but the fact that she became a HUGE ship and people thought she was actually significant it's like. I started to hate her REAL quick. Plus the fact that she left Stan on a dime, and that Stan probably wasn't the best of boyfriends, and if you ask me I headcanon that she kind of shamed Stan into getting more fit. And then after that, Stan got so jealous he harassed both her and her new boyfriend.
So like, I don't mind the ship much as the fluffy-short-lived-high-school-romance, but when the ship is like "omg carla is the love of stans life!!!!!!! omg carla is gonna come back and they're gonna get together!!!!!!!!! omg carla is the grandma of dipper and mabel!!!!!" it's just. shut the fuck up. she's literally JUST a teenage fling that was used to get Dipper and Stan to bond over something.
And as for the fans, my goodness, they were terrible. They fought so much with the Stancest shippers back in the day when they were still rampant through the fandom. And gosh, it's been a while and my memory is hazy, but I know there were ACTUALLY ST@RL@ FANS who said some homophobic as FUCK stuff (Since Mystery Trio was still a big thing, so was Fiddlestan, and the Starla fans got SO pissy that Stan was being shipped with another male - no, instead, he should be shipped with CARLA, because SHE CAME FIRST etc etc), and there was some entitled as fuck stuff they said, including one Starla shipper getting pissy that there was a Fiddl3st@n art that had Stan and Fidds dancing - because that's a ST@RL@ THING. ONLY STAN AND CARLA CAN EVER BE SEEN DANCING TOGETHER EVER. And that's just scratching the surface, but I know so many of them were like "STAN CAN'T BE WITH ANYONE BUT CARLA EVER" because that's some of the stuff they said to me back then lol. Plus the fact they just KEPT spouting off like they were the definitory ship, even when the show proved again and again that they aren't into each other at all anymore, they still acted like they were the best ship ever and they were NOT a tiny dingboat with a fucking hole in it. And it's not like they've changed, there was actually a recent incident with a shipper that happened that I don't want to go in depth on because it will be too obvious who/what I'm talking about.
And then god... g4g..... legit and honestly the worst thing in this entire fandom. Like, take St@rl@ shippers, make them ten times worse, and that's G4G. Like, THE worst I swear. There's a lot of bullshit going on with antis right now and all that, but I'm still SO relieved that G4G is mostly dead.
Like, just focusing on the theory for a moment, it makes no sense and it never did. They claimed that Stan got Carla knocked up in their teens, and then Dipper and Mabel are their grandkids. Timelines wise, it's not TOO far fetched - but they also were like "Stan got Carla knocked up and then ditched her and the baby" which fucking NO. NEVER IN HIS LIFE DO I THINK STAN WOULD EVEN CONSIDER ABANDONING A KNOCKED UP LADY AND A BABY. That is just SO INCREDIBLY OOC AS FUCk. And then they turn around and ALSO say that, a big reason G4G is "confirmed" is because "Stan loves the kids too much just to be a great uncle" which i think is one of the arguments that got me frustrated the most because like????? okay u say Stan loves them SO MUCH that it doesn't make sense to "just" be an uncle, but he's okay with abandoning their parent for years on end????? and the kids' parents are totally okay with sending the kids to stay with the brother of the man who abandoned them???????? what the fuck??????? but it just frustrates me SO MUCH that they were like "He's just an uncle he can't love those kids THAT much if he was just an uncle" like what the absolute FUCK does that mean. family ties???? mean nothing when it comes to love and bonding????? they act like the more closely related u are the more you care about a person and like no????? there's people who hate their parents and parents who hate their kids and there's some grandpas that couldn't give less of a shit about their grandkids, and then there's uncles who are better dads than the dad in question. like, I had a great uncle, he lived in california and he cared about me more than one of my grandpas ever did so??????? that logic is so skewed and actually kinda offensive so jeez
and there's so many other little things that they saw and screamed "CANON" at the top of their lungs like an idiot. MABEL WORE A FLOWER AND CARLA WORE A FLOWER IT'S CANON. STAN SAID SOMETHING ABOUT KNOCKING A GIRL UP, COULDN'T HAVE BEEN A JOKE HAD TO BE CARLA. And uh. god there was a ton of other stupid shit that they said was "evidence"
but I think their attitude was the most absolutely abysmal - like I said, they screamed. they literally got into all caps fights with people who didn't agree with the theory, called people who didn't agree with it idiots, generally screamed down ANYONE who wasn't along with the theory - all while believing there was no way ever in the possible universe that THEY could be wrong about this completely true theory!!!!! Stanley says he's their great uncle? HE'S BLUFFING G4G IS CANON!!!!! Alex says Stanley doesn't have kids? LIES HE DOES TO ALEX IS TRYING TO THROW US OFF!!!! Alex says AGAIN that Stan never had kids? L I E S STILL HE JUST DOESN'T WANT US TO FIND IT OUT TOO EARLY!!!! Stan literally says outright that they're Shermies grandkids? LYING ALEX IS GONNA PULL THE RUG OUT FROM UNDER US AT ANY MOMENT!!!!! Alex literally answers a fan asking 'is stan the grandpa' with 'no'? HE'S STILL LYING HE JUST CAN'T SAY IT YET!!!!! Canon compliant game mentions Shermie again and Stan mentions fighting him off to hold Dipper and Mabel? LI E S HE IS TH E G RA ND PA
It was the most infuriating bullshit. Even though Alex had said himself three times before Stan wasn't the grandpa, even though there's a shit ton of canon evidence and outright things that debunk it, they STILL thought they were the most canon thing in the universe, to the point that they STILL yelled at people who didn't agree with them.
just. ugh. seriously, if you're new, be relieved you didn't take the brunt of the G4G bullcrap. i mean i still feel bad the for the stancest shippers who were there before me because I came in at the very end of it but I saw how bad it was. weirdly enough St@rl@ shippers targeted Stancesters a shit ton???? it was weird but yeah
