What I thought dark romance was: Love interest is a monster or just a straight up pyscho who adores MC to the moon and back and is willing to kill whoever hurts them, like downright down BAD. Love interest is submissive in a guard dog way
What it is apparently: Non-con, age gaps and the male love interests are ALWAYS just abusive with no redeeming qualities or interesting. He will go out of his way to terrorize MC and even hurt them, (there's no actual romance )
