A quick collection of parenting culture-clashes that happened in Zaun Family between Jayvik and (mostly) Silco based on things that have happened in my family:
All of Silco's kids spent basically until they could walk being carried about by someone nearly constantly unless sleeping so when Viktor and Jayce intentionally put Naph on the ground (on a blanket) he is very confused and the sentence "What the fuck is floor time" is uttered when they try to explain that it's good developmentally for a baby
Silco has done the thing where while Naph is teething he's just dunked his finger in his whisky on the rocks and then run it along Naph's gums (a very common way to help with teething before modern numbing gels were created). Jayce does almost squeak out "did you just give my son alcohol?" at it
Naph when newborn sleeps in a cot with only a thin blanket where he is safe (from SIDS). All of Silco's kids when newborn slept in his and Vander's bed to keep them safe (from people breaking in).
Jayce and Viktor have one of those modern baby harnesses. Silco thinks it's dumb because as far as he's concerned all you need is long piece of fabric. Flip side of this is that Jayce and Viktor probably go for the baby swaddling onesie things while Silco can swaddle in that same piece of fabric.
Jayce and Viktor purchase/invent many things in the lead up to Naph's birth that Silco thinks are a waste of money/time. He ends up being right for about half of them.

The Connection Between Posture and Spine Health: Explained By The Best Spine Specialist In Surat
Whether we’re hunched over our desks, slouching on the couch, or constantly looking down at our phones, poor posture has become increasingly common in our modern world. But what many don’t realize is the profound impact that posture has on our overall spine health. This blog post explores the intricate connection between posture and spine health, and provides practical tips for maintaining a healthy back throughout your lifetime through the lens of our experts at SIDS hospital, considered as the best spine specialists in Surat.
Understanding Posture and Its Importance
Posture refers to the position in which we hold our bodies while standing, sitting, or lying down. Good posture involves training your body to stand, walk, sit, and lie in positions where the least strain is placed on supporting muscles and ligaments during movement or weight-bearing activities.
Experts from SIDS Hospital, one of the best hospitals in Surat, assert that maintaining proper posture is about more than just standing up straight. It’s a crucial component of our overall health and well-being, particularly when it comes to the health of our spine.
The Spine: A Marvel of Engineering
To understand the impact of posture on spine health, it’s essential to appreciate the complexity of the spine itself. The human spine is a remarkable structure consisting of 33 vertebrae, separated by intervertebral discs, and supported by an intricate network of muscles and ligaments. This design allows for flexibility and movement while protecting the spinal cord and supporting the weight of the upper body.
How Poor Posture Affects Spine Health
The best spine specialists in Surat share the opinion that poor posture can have a cascading effect on spine health:
1. Muscular Strain: When we maintain poor posture, certain muscles are forced to work harder than others. This imbalance can lead to muscle fatigue, strain, and eventually, chronic pain.
2. Disc Compression: Slouching or hunching forward can increase pressure on the intervertebral discs, potentially leading to disc degeneration or herniation over time.
3. Misalignment: Consistent poor posture can cause the spine to become misaligned, leading to issues such as scoliosis or kyphosis.
4. Nerve Compression: Misalignment and disc problems can put pressure on the nerves that exit the spine, potentially causing pain, numbness, or weakness in various parts of the body.
5. Reduced Flexibility: Over time, poor posture can lead to a loss of flexibility in the spine and surrounding muscles, making it harder to maintain proper alignment.
6. Decreased Lung Capacity: Slouching compresses the chest cavity, potentially reducing lung capacity and oxygen intake.
The Benefits of Good Posture
Maintaining good posture offers numerous benefits for spine health:
1. Proper Alignment: Good posture helps maintain the spine’s natural curves, reducing unnecessary stress on the vertebrae and discs.
2. Muscle Efficiency: When your body is properly aligned, muscles work more efficiently, reducing fatigue and strain.
3. Improved Breathing: An upright posture allows for fuller lung expansion, improving oxygen intake and overall respiratory function.
4. Enhanced Core Strength: Maintaining good posture engages and strengthens core muscles, providing better support for the spine.
5. Reduced Risk of Injury: Proper alignment reduces the risk of strains, sprains, and other musculoskeletal injuries.
6. **Better Circulation**: Good posture can improve blood flow throughout the body, including to the spine and its supporting structures.
Practical Tips for Improving Posture and Spine Health
Spine specialist from the best hospital in Surat, SIDS Hospital, have share some practical tips for improving posture for better spine health:
- Ensure your work environment supports good posture. This includes adjusting chair height, computer screen position, and desk setup.
- Take frequent breaks to stand, stretch, and walk around, especially if you have a sedentary job.
- Focus on exercises that strengthen core muscles, including the abdominals and back muscles.
- Incorporate stretching and yoga into your routine to improve flexibility and maintain proper alignment.
- Be aware of your posture throughout the day. Set reminders to check and correct your posture if necessary.
- Use a supportive mattress and pillow to maintain proper spinal alignment during sleep.
- Maintain a healthy weight to reduce excess stress on your spine and supporting structures.
- Wear shoes that provide adequate support, especially if you spend a lot of time on your feet.
Consider techniques like the Alexander Technique or Feldenkrais Method, which focus on body awareness and efficient movement patterns.
Conclusion
The connection between posture and spine health is undeniable. By understanding this relationship and taking proactive steps to maintain good posture from the tips given above by the best spine specialists in Surat, you can significantly improve your spine health and overall quality of life. Sleeping Safely: How Long Can Your Baby Sleep in a Bassinet?
In this blog post, I delve into the recommendations provided by pediatric and safety experts, examine the developmental milestones that signal it's time to transition to a crib, and even explore how your baby's unique sleep patterns can affect this decision. Pediatric Recommendations: Duration of Baby Sleep in a Bassinet Pediatricians, guided by organizations like the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), typically recommend that babies sleep in their parent's room—in a separate crib or bassinet — for at least the first six months to a year. This arrangement is known to decrease the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). However, the exact duration that a baby can sleep in a bassinet can vary depending on several factors. Primarily, the transition from a bassinet to a crib should occur when your baby exhibits specific developmental milestones. For instance, once your baby starts showing signs of rolling over or pushing up on their hands, usually between three to five months, it's time to move them to a crib for safety reasons. Bassinets have lower sides than cribs and are not designed to contain a baby who can roll or move around significantly. Additionally, many bassinets also have weight restrictions, typically around 15-20 pounds, which parents should adhere to for their child's safety. It's always recommended to follow the specific guidelines provided by the manufacturer of your bassinet. However, remember that these guidelines are just that—guidelines. As a parent, you should always use your best judgment and consult with your pediatrician to determine the best sleep environment for your baby. Reasons to Transition Your Baby from a Bassinet to a Crib There are several key reasons why transitioning your baby from a bassinet to a crib is important. - One of the primary factors is safety. Bassinets, with their limited space and lower sides, are not designed to accommodate babies who can roll over, push up on their hands, or sit up unassisted. These actions can occur anywhere from three to five months of age, and they significantly increase the risk of a baby toppling out of the bassinet. Moreover, most bassinets come with weight restrictions—typically around 15-20 pounds—and continuing to use them beyond these limits can pose safety risks. Similarly, as babies grow, they need more space to stretch and move during sleep. - Another significant reason to transition is related to your child's sleep pattern. A larger crib allows babies more freedom of movement, which can lead to more comfortable and better-quality sleep as they grow and develop. While the transition might initially seem daunting, both for the baby and parents, it's a necessary step towards ensuring your child's safety and comfort. Remember, when in doubt, consult your pediatrician about the appropriate time to make the switch. Personal Insights: Transitioning Baby from Bassinet to Crib and Their Own Room In my opinion, as both a pediatrician and a mother, I've found the guidelines suggesting that babies should sleep in their parent's room, in a bassinet or crib, for at least six months to be quite practical. Not only does this arrangement help in reducing the risk of SIDS, but it also makes those middle-of-the-night feedings more manageable for us parents. As for when to stop using a bassinet, the critical cues are developmental. When your baby starts showing signs of being able to roll over or push up on their hands, it's definitely time to transition to a crib. In my experience, this usually happens between three to five months of age. Bassinets are cozy and compact, but their design isn't equipped to handle a mobile baby. You should also pay attention to weight limits; most bassinets have a restriction of about 15-20 pounds. Now, let's talk about when should the baby move to their own room. As per the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the ideal time is when the baby is at least 6 months to a year old. In my personal journey, I transitioned my children to their own rooms close to their first birthday. It was a process that required patience—there were a few nights of interrupted sleep as they adjusted to the new environment. But with a baby monitor in place and a safe, comfortable crib, it turned out to be a smooth transition. Remember, each child is unique, and so are their sleep patterns and developmental milestones. Trust your instincts, watch your child's cues, and consult with your pediatrician to make the best decision for your little one's sleep environment. Comprehensive Guide: Duration of Baby Sleep in Bassinet When it comes to determining how long a baby can sleep in a bassinet, various factors come into play. Here, I have broken down the main reasons and factors that determine when it's time to move your baby from a bassinet to a crib. Remember, each baby is unique and may reach these milestones at different times. Always trust your instincts and consult with your pediatrician to make the best decision for your baby's sleep environment. Essential Equipment for Prolonged Bassinet Use Choosing the right equipment can help to prolong your baby's sleep in a bassinet and ease the transition to a crib when the time comes. Here's a table outlining some of these key items: Step-by-Step Guide: Understanding the Duration of Baby Sleep in a Bassinet - Know the Guidelines: Familiarize yourself with the general guidelines provided by pediatric experts. Typically, it's recommended for babies to sleep in a bassinet or crib in their parent's room for at least six months to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). - Check Developmental Milestones: Keep a close eye on your baby's developmental milestones. If your baby starts showing signs of being able to roll over or push up on their hands, typically between three to five months, it's time to consider transitioning to a crib. - Check Weight and Size: Pay attention to your baby's weight and size. Most bassinets have a weight limit of about 15-20 pounds, and continuing to use them beyond these limits can pose safety risks. Similarly, if your baby seems cramped or unable to stretch out comfortably, it's time to move them to a crib. - Observe Sleep Patterns: Watch your baby's sleep patterns. If your baby appears restless or seems to be waking up due to a lack of space, this might be a sign that they're ready for the more spacious environment of a crib. - Consult with a Pediatrician: If you're unsure about when to transition your baby from a bassinet to a crib, always consult with your pediatrician. They can provide personalized advice based on your baby's growth and development. - Make the Transition Gradual: When it's time to make the move, try to make the transition from bassinet to crib gradual. Start with naps in the crib before transitioning to nighttime sleep. This gives your baby a chance to get used to the new sleeping environment. Remember, these steps are guidelines and each baby is unique. Trust your instincts, watch your baby's cues, and consult with your pediatrician to make the best decision for your baby's sleep environment. Top Resources for Understanding Your Baby's Sleep in a Bassinet - KidsHealth - A Guide to Your Newborn's Sleep (https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/sleepnewborn.html): KidsHealth offers a detailed and easily understandable guide to newborn sleep patterns. As a pediatrician and mother, I appreciate their plain language approach to explaining the complex world of newborn sleep. When can I stop worrying about SIDS?
As a parent, you’re going to worry. You’ll worry about concrete things like whether your baby has gotten enough to eat or if your toddler is warm enough without a jacket. You’ll worry about abstract things like if your child is happy or whether they’ll always “do the right thing.” And you’re going to worry about sleep. Especially when they are a newborn, you’re going to worry about sleep. It’s kind of ironic but some the biggest worries during the newborn stage are likely to occur when your baby isn’t crying and is actually sleeping peacefully.
Meet our expert
Jamie Engelman
Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant, Founder of Oh Baby Consulting
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is a terrifying reality that impacts over a thousand American families per year. While SIDS is the leading cause of death in babies under 1 year of age, most SIDS deaths (90%) occur in babies under 6 months of age.
Will I always have to worry about SIDS?
SIDS only occurs in babies 12 months or younger. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to throw safe sleep practices to the curb after your baby’s first birthday. There are many things parents can do to help prevent SIDS both during the highest-risk period and beyond.
Before your baby turns 1, you can reduce the risk of SIDS by:
Room sharing for the first 4-6 months
The AAP currently recommends room-sharing for the first 6 months as a preventative measure for SIDS. When your baby has their own sleep space but is also close by, you can quickly and easily attend to their nighttime needs and may not be as tempted to bring them into your bed in the middle of the night. However, new research has come out indicating that while the risk for SIDS decreases significantly at 4 months, the rate of unsafe sleep practices and less nighttime sleep when room-sharing past 4 months actually increases.
2.Placing your baby on their back to sleep
Back when we were infants, we likely were placed on our stomachs to sleep and your mom or grandmother may even encourage you to put your baby down in this position. But in 1994, the American Academy of Pediatrics launched their “Back to Sleep” campaign after research found that if infants were placed on their stomachs, their risk of dying from SIDS increased two-fold.
When babies are placed on their tummies, there is more risk for their airways to be blocked if they wind up face-down in the mattress. With very immature motor function and weak head, neck, and trunk muscles, it is difficult for young infants to turn their head and clear their airway. That’s why I hold firmly to the motto, “Back to sleep…tummy to play!”
3.Ensuring a firm, flat sleep surface
Infants should be placed on a firm, flat sleep surface covered only by a tightly fitted sheet. I know it can seem boring and even uncomfortable to envision your new little bundle sleeping in a bare crib on a rigid mattress, but softer materials (like memory foam) can result in indents or small pockets that can increase the risk of a phenomenon known as carbon dioxide re-breathing. As your baby breathes in oxygen, they breathe out carbon dioxide. If their face is too close to a small pocket (or even another piece of fabric), that little space can begin to fill with exhaled carbon dioxide instead of oxygen.
4. Not using loose bedding, soft object, or crib bumpers
Everyone loves adorning a baby’s nursery with adorable décor, and cribs are no exception. But please make sure that when it comes time to place your baby into it for sleep, there is nothing else in there with them. With fluffy bedding, blankets, bumpers, and even plush toys, the risk for entrapment, obstructed airways, and suffocation rises greatly.
5.Avoiding the use of commercial devices inconsistent with safe sleep recommendations
As you know, the safest place for babies to sleep is on a firm, flat mattress in an approved crib, bassinet, or play yard. These spaces have gone through the rigorous testing needed to be deemed safe for unsupervised sleep. It can be tempting to want to rely on loungers, positioners, swings, wedges, or co-sleeping to keep your baby snoozing just a bit longer, but these devices and apparatuses are not designed with infant sleep-safety in mind and should only be used during supervised awake periods.
If your baby sleeps best when snugly confined (as most newborns do) consider using the gently weighted Zen Swaddle. When used safely and correctly (an easy feat with the Zen Swaddle), swaddling is a very effective tool for promoting longer periods of sleep in newborns
6.Asking for sleep help
When you’re in the throes of exhaustion, it can be very easy to rely on any variety of the devices and apparatuses that promise to help your baby sleep well. It’s tempting to bring your baby into bed with you at 3 a.m. when they just won’t fall asleep after a feeding or strap them into a swing because you know it can buy you an extra hour or two before they wake up again. Unfortunately, you now know that these are not safe sleep practices, and as parents we have enough to worry about to spend time fretting about our babies’ safety when they’re sleeping. It is possible for your child to sleep well and safely and sleep coaches (like me) help families do this every day. You are not alone.
After your baby turns 1 years old, continue to:
Place them on their backs to sleep
“Back is best” still applies. When your baby eventually rolls from back to tummy on their own (usually around 4-5 months), many pediatricians and sleep experts agree that it is okay to leave them in this position to sleep as long as they are no longer swaddled (please check with your own pediatrician).
Stick to firm sleep surfaces
Ensuring that your baby is sleeping on a flat, firm mattress will keep them safe in any sleeping position—whether their tummy sleepers, side sleepers, or always rolling around. You should also continue to avoid sleeping in swings, loungers, etc.
Keep the crib clear
The AAP recommends that cribs stay bare for at least the 12 months of life (and many experts recommend beyond). If you’re concerned about your baby being cold while sleeping, consider using the Zen Sack as an alternative to lose blankets.

Owlets Latest Smart Sock can also keep tabs on your kids up to age 5
The term “baby monitor” is no longer appropriate. On Wednesday, Owlet unveiled its new Owlets Smart Sock Plus, which fits youngsters up to age five (and 55 pounds). The first Owlet Sock has launched in 2015 and monitors heart rate, blood oxygen level, and sleep patterns in infants up to 18 months of age (or about 30 pounds). According to the firm, the most popular request from consumers is to prolong the product’s use into early infancy. This smart infant breathing monitor has come a long way since CNET first reported it in 2013. “Sock” back then was more of a boot, and the firm was still in its early stages of crowdsourcing. As of today, the Owlet Sock is a lightweight. Basic design that has used to monitor the vitals of over 1 million newborns. While the new Smart Sock Plus has the same appearance and feel as the Smart Sock 3, the bigger sizes make it more comfortable. It has also modified its algorithms to take older youngsters into consideration.
Evolution in Baby Technology
There is a danger that this type of baby technology may appear to be a solution in search of a problem for parents. As a result, the market for smart baby monitors has exploded in the years since Owlet’s launch. With new products like Nanit Pro, Cubo AI and Miku Smart Baby Monitors. These can measure and track vitals like oxygen levels in the baby’s lungs and temperature as well as sleep quality. All of this information is presented in visually appealing charts and graphs that data-hungry millennials find appealing. In the past, I’ve recorded my son’s milk consumption, diaper changes, and naps for a whole year for no apparent reason. The Owlet app delivers similar bio-intelligence to my Fitbit Charge 4. Which has used to track my own sleep, physical activity, and heart rate.
Discovering trends and patterns that you wouldn’t otherwise have access to is a great thing to do. My son’s pulse rate calms down as I sing him to sleep with the Owlets latest sock. When I hear your voice, my BPM settles down. Aww. When he was younger, I would wake up in the middle of the night, convinced that he had stopped breathing. To monitor your child’s health as they get older, Owlets has created the Smart Sock Plus. There is just enough ambiguity in that promise to make it seem enticing without making any claims regarding value. A parent’s sleep habits or heart rate data probably won’t tell them anything about their child’s health. Keeping track of your child’s sleep isn’t much more than a curiosity in the absence of any health issues.
Owlets Smart Sock Reduce the risk of SIDS
A medical gadget, Owlet’s Smart Sock does not promise to prevent SIDS (in fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics actually advises against using breathing monitors like the Owlet to reduce the risk of SIDS).
I see the Owlet Smart Sock for infants as a security alarm for a house without doors. However, if your kid is able to roll over on their own by the time the doors (and locks) are placed, you may still want to add an alarm. The peace of mind during the newborn phase is worth it. If your budget allows it, and if you’re not able to sleep despite following safe sleep practises to the letter, like I am. “Sleep while the baby sleeps” would be easier with the Owlet or similar breathing monitor.
There are three sizes of Owlet Smart Sock Plus socks and a base station that can be used to charge the socks wirelessly for $349. Pricey, especially when you consider that the video monitor is an add-on ($159 if purchased individually, or $459 if purchased with the Smart Sock Plus). By purchasing a $69 Smart Sock Plus extension pack, current Smart Sock 3 users can upgrade to Smart Sock Plus. The price of the Smart Sock has nearly doubled since 2016 due to the fact that it may now be worn by children as young as five years old. Given how much my need for “peace of mind” diminished after the first year. It’s impossible to determine whether the increased price is justified by the expanded age and weight range.

OBESITY - A MAJOR PROBLEM DURING LOCKDOWN
By Rashi Batra
It's not just about the weight or the outlook for which you need to get worried about but the health problems which come along accompanied with it, is what should ring a bell of danger in your head too. Obesity is majorly an outcome of overeating that too mainly unhealthy foods and what worsens the situation is minimal or negligible indulgence in physical activity. Obesity is something which seeps in quite easily in urban livelihood because of the busy schedules, bad eating habits and disturbed sleeping patterns.
These risks have increased due to the lockdown, since our outdoor activity did stop completely, due to the global crisis, resulting to which people have resorted to over indulgence in eating junk and not working out as expected.
•Include green in your diet
WAYS TO COMBAT OBESITY
For adults
When has there been a time when green went wrong? Leafy vegetables have always been a good investment in providing the requisite nutrition to our body that it requires. It is suggested that an adult body must include 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies per day. Raw, green food helps the body to get rid of toxins. Also, such foods are high on nutrients and low on fats. Thus, in turn it helps in not pushing you over the obese sid do the bar.
•Exercise
How exercise helps to stay fit hasn't remained hidden. It has become a necessity to exercise daily in order to lubricate our muscles and to provide our body with the flush of blood by exercising or working out. How does this mechanism actually works is explained here. It has been reported repeatedly that urban population is more likely to get obese due to the lack of physical activity in their routines. There are times, we end up eating more than what we wish to. During such exceptional cases, one can work out extra in order to cut down one's calories which are raised due to overeating. A moderate workout of 150 mins or a vigorous workout of 75 mins is suggestive to be undertaken each week.
• Include nuts in your diet.
From the early childhood, one can remember their moms and grandmoms stuffing their pockets with handfuls of nuts. Ever wondered how do they contribute in keeping your body fit? Nuts are quite multipurpose. It helps to boost our immunity, also helps in maintaining a good metabolism. And from the very long time we have been listening about their magical contribution towards our concentration. Yes, they do help us to focus and concentrate. Nuts help you to curb your hunger for a longer time, without making you go hungry.
• Dietry fibres
Dietry fibres is one such nutrient that works best for your diet. It doesn't lead to an increase in your weight at all but on the other hand helps you to maintain a stable weight. Cereals contain magnesium and vitamin B6 which many diet foods lack in them. You can start your day with a Dietry fibres rich food i.e. a bowl full of cereals.
• Know your fats
Cutting onto your meals is a dilapidated method of reducing weight. A balanced diet is a must for us to grow and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Not including fats isn't the correct solution to it but including the correct fat is. You must include unsaturated fats in your diet like avocados, vegetable oils, olive oils instead of saturated fats like ghee, butter etc. By making such small alterations in your diet, you can move ahead in your journey of moving away from the obese pointer.
• Do not skip your breakfast
Skipping your early morning meals is a myth which many have been following from ages. Breakfast is a must and shouldn't be skipped by you, as it keeps you energetic for the rest of the day. It also keeps your tummy satisfied for longer duration of time. You should have a hearty breakfast.

Simple Steps to presenting a wholesome Pregnancy
If you've decided to have an infant, the main thing is that you treatment a great deal, so that both you and the infant are healthy in the foreseeable future. Ladies who receive care and take the right decisions are highly more likely to have healthy infants. You can also get more advice and tips by reading the pregnancy miracle guide www.bethkileypersonalpathtopregnancy.com
Prenatal Care
If you are discovered by you are pregnant, see a medical expert as quickly as possible to start receiving prenatal treatment (treatment during being pregnant). The earlier you begin getting health care, the better the probabilities that both you as well as your baby are healthy in the foreseeable future.
If you can't afford to go to a health care provider or purchase the discussion in a medical center for prenatal treatment, sociable service organizations exist that will help. Ask your parents, college counselor or another respected adult to support you in finding resources in your community.
Through the first consultation, the physician can make a lot of questions, such as the time of your last period. In this real way, you can calculate how long are you pregnant and what day you anticipate your baby.
Doctors estimation the period of being pregnant in weeks. The deadline is estimated, however the majority of infants given birth to between 38 and 42 weeks following the first day of last menstrual amount of women, or between 36 and 38 weeks after conception (when the sperm fertilizes the egg). Only a little percentage of women having a baby at the approximated delivery date.
The pregnancy is split into three phases, or quarters. The first one fourth operates from conception to getting rid of week 13. The second reason is from week 14 to 26. The 3rd, from week 27 before the end of being pregnant.
The physician will examine you and execute a pelvic exam. The physician will also order bloodstream assessments, urine checks, and tests to check on for sexually sent diseases (STD by its acronym in British), including an HIV test, an extremely common condition in children. (Because some STDs can cause serious health issues in newborns, it's important to get appropriate treatment to safeguard the infant.)
The doctor will clarify what are the physical and emotional changes that are likely to experience during pregnancy. We also figure out how to recognize the symptoms of possible problems (problems) during being pregnant. That is essential, because teenagers are at greater risk of crossing certain problems such as anemia or hypertension, and give delivery before the expected time (early labor).
Your doctor will want to begin taking prenatal vitamins containing folic acid, iron, and calcium away. Your physician may recommend vitamin supplements or can suggest a brand you can purchase without a prescription. These vitamins and minerals help ensure the nice health of baby and mom and prevent certain birth problems.
Ideally, you should visit your physician monthly through the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. You then should visit every 14 days until week 36 and every week thereafter until delivery. When you have an illness like diabetes, which requires careful monitoring during being pregnant, chances are that your physician desires to see you more regularly.
During consultations, your physician will monitor your body weight, blood urine, and pressure, in addition to calculating your belly to visit record the baby's growth. When the baby's heartbeat can be noticed with a particular device, the doctor will listen to each time you visit. Chances are that your physician will also show another testing during being pregnant, such as an ultrasound to ensure the baby is within perfect condition.
Also part of prenatal care to wait for classes where women expect an infant learning how to truly have a healthy pregnancy and delivery, as well as what exactly are the basic look after the newborn. Chances are these classes are conducted in private hospitals, medical centers, colleges, and colleges locally.
If adults can be difficult to speak to your doctor about your own body, this is even more complicated for children. The role of your physician is to help you love a healthy being pregnant and have a wholesome baby... which is likely that there surely is nothing a pregnant female has not informed. So don't be scared to inquire about all you need to know.
Continually be honest whenever your doctor will ask questions, even if they're embarrassing. Lots of the issues that your physician desires you to protect could impact the fitness of your baby. Think of your physician as a person who isn't just a source but also a pal you can trust to discuss what is occurring to you.

Among other changes that pregnancy hormones produced in your skin are yellowish or brownish places that show up on the facial skin, which are called melasma, and a dark stripe operating from the navel to the pubis, which known as linea nigra.
Also, moles or freckles you had before pregnancy may upsurge in size or become darker. The areola even, the area around the nipple becomes darker. Stretchmarks may also happen (slim lines of red or crimson) in the stomach, thighs or breasts.
Aside from the darkening of the areola, which is permanent usually, these epidermis changes will go away after delivery.

Smoking during pregnancy bears some of the next dangers: the delivery of a dead fetus (whenever a baby dies inside the womb), low delivery weight (which escalates the probability that the infant has health issues), infants babies (babies created before 37 weeks) symptoms and sudden baby death (SIDS because of its acronym in British). SIDS is the unexpected loss of life for no obvious reason, an infant under twelve months.

How to be mindful during pregnancy

raw meat, fish or simply cooked;
processed meat such as sausages or chilly cuts;
Unpasteurized smooth cheeses such as feta, brie, blue or goat, and
milk, unpasteurized cider or juice.
Additionally, it is desirable to limit the intake of artificial sweeteners and caffeine and artificial sweeteners.
Exercise
Working out during pregnancy is wonderful for your health when you have no problems with the pregnancy and choose appropriate activities. Doctors recommend low-impact activities such as walking generally, yoga and swimming. Generally, you should avoid contact sports activities and high impact aerobic activities that present a higher threat of injury. Additionally, it is not suggested to execute a job that involves heavy raising for ladies during being pregnant. Speak to your doctor if you have questions about what kind of exercises are safe for you as well as your baby.
Sleep
It's important to get a lot of rest during being pregnant. Through the first weeks of pregnancy, attempting to obtain the habit of sleeping working for you. As pregnancy advances, lying working for you, knees bent, would be the preferred position. It'll facilitate the working of the center because the baby's weight won't exert any strain on the vein that bears blood from your toes and legs back again to the heart.
Some doctors specifically advise that pregnant women should rest on his remaining part. Because a few of the major arteries are in the right aspect of the belly, laying on the still left side helps maintain the uterus places pressure to them. Ask your physician what your suggestion. Generally, the secret is to lay on either part, to reduce strain on the back again.
Through the entire pregnancy, but especially in the later stages, chances are that you awaken frequently during the night to visit the bathroom. Although it is important to drink a lot of drinking water during being pregnant, try to drink more during the day rather than at night. Go directly to the bathroom before bed. As being pregnant progress, you may be difficult to find an appropriate position during intercourse. You can test placing cushions around and under the belly, back or hip and legs to feel convenient.
Stress can also influence the rest. Perhaps you're worried about the fitness of the baby, delivery, or how it'll play this new role of mom. All these emotions are normal but can produce sleeping disorders. Speak to your doctor if you have sleep problems during being pregnant.
Emotional Health
It's quite common for pregnant children to experience several feelings such as dread, anger, guilt, sadness, and confusion. Maybe you take some time to change to the fact that you are having a baby. This means an enormous change that is natural for pregnant teenagers wonder if they're ready for the obligations involved with becoming mothers.
The feelings of an often depend on how much support received by the baby's father, his family (and category of the baby's father) and his friends. The problem for each youngster is different. Based on your situation, you may need to seek more support for individuals who are not part of your family. It's important to talk to people who can support you, show you and help you talk about and straighten out your emotions. Your college counselor or nurse can show you to get the resources wanted to help your community.
In some full cases, teenage pregnancies and spontaneous abortions have lost the infant. This is very unfortunate and difficult to conquer for some, but to others, it causes a sense of alleviation. It is important to discuss these feelings and receive support from friends and family, if this isn't possible, go to advisors or educators.
The institution and the near future
Some girls intend to raise their baby independently. Sometimes grandparents or other family help them. Some teenagers choose to provide her baby for adoption. These difficult decisions involve significant amounts of courage and concern for the infant.
Young women who've completed senior high school will have higher chances of obtaining a good job and revel in a far more successful life. So far as possible, you should finish high school now rather than trying to go back to school later. Ask your college counselor or a reliable adult that you provide information on what programs and classes offered locally for pregnant teenagers.

The Sleeping Habits Of Newborn Children Things To Know Before You Buy
The Best Guide To The Sleeping Habits Of Newborn Children
It is, however, a stage in a child's life that is typically misunderstood. Recent research has actually assisted to explain this change in an infant's sleeping behavior and also modifies some of the important things experts believed or understood about infant sleep. Until just recently, infant crying and sleeping issues have actually been lumped together, however there is growing evidence that they are separate problems, with various causes.
On the other hand, baby sleeping problems, which normally include babies getting up in the night, do not happen up until after 3 months of age. So, sleeping issues happen in the night and at an older age than weeping problems. Additionally, recent research studies have actually shown that infants who cry a lot in the first 4-6 weeks are not particularly most likely to interrupt their parents in the night at 3 months of age or have sleeping issues later.
What concerns moms and dads is when their child continues to get up during the night after a lot of other children have actually stopped. This awakening at night does not generally include a great deal of crying. The primary sources of adult concern are (1) that their baby is behaving differently from a lot of other children in our society; and (2) that the baby being awake in the evening keeps the moms and dads awake too and for that reason disrupts the parents' own sleep.
The 6-Second Trick For The Sleeping Habits Of Newborns
Kid development research studies utilizing infra-red video-recording have discovered that almost all infants continue to wake in the night even if to the moms and dad they appear to be sleeping all night. By 3 months of age, the majority of babies begin to sleep for extended periods or to fall back to sleep on their own, without awakening their parents.
Babies who continue to interrupt parents in the evening are referred to as night-time 'signalers' What, then, do we understand about why some infants continue to be night-time 'signalers' while many babies stop doing this by 3-4 months of age? Initially, and most notably, a number of research studies have shown that most infants who get up and 'signal' their moms and dads during the night are healthy, put on weight and grow normally, and do not go on to have developmental problems - other than for continuing to get up and call out in the night.
Since infants who are born early have a higher rate of neurological issues than full-term-born infants, these babies provide a test case for whether waking up during the night is because of neurological disturbance. In fact, several massive studies have discovered low rates of night waking and signaling among infants who were born too soon.
Facts About The Sleeping Habits Of Newborn Children Revealed
A typical description is that breast-milk is absorbed quicker in a child's stomach than other types of milk, leading the child to continue to wake up starving in the night. We do not understand for particular whether that is right, but it is usually accepted that breast milk is advantageous for infant development.
Thirdly, and more controversially, there is proof that parenting approaches affect whether or not children wake and signify in the evening. Four different research studies have actually found that if parents follow easy actions in how they care for their babies, then their babies are most likely to stop indicating in the night by 12 weeks of age.
Before describing them, however, it is necessary to acknowledge that not all research studies have actually found that these techniques work, while some specialists have actually expressed issues that they might have unexpected repercussions. Up until additional research has dealt with these problems, moms and dads will need to utilize their judgment, as well as the scientific proof, in choosing whether to embrace these types of baby-care.
8 Easy Facts About Helping Newborns To Fall Asleep Described
Problems with getting toddlers and children to settle to sleep (in some cases called bed-time 'battles') end up being more typical after about 2 years of age. Problems of this kind typically occur together with night waking and signaling, however the two can happen individually. Although the proof is weaker, bed-time struggles are believed to be partially due to how parents handle their children's bed-times.
These approaches, too, are described in the section titled, . This section of the site was modified in December 2013 to include current research study evidence.
YOUR BRAND-NEW BABY (LESS THAN 2 MONTHS) AND SLEEPAt first, your new baby is on a 24-hour feeding and sleep-wake cycle. Newborns might sleep between 10 and 18 hours a day. They stay awake only 1 to 3 hours at a time. Signs that your infant is ending up being sleepy consist of: Crying Eye rubbing Fussiness Try putting your baby to bed drowsy, however not yet asleep.
The Sleeping Habits Of Newborns - Truths
Sleeping with an infant more youthful than 12 months might increase the risk of If your kid comes out of his space, avoid lecturing him. Utilizing excellent eye contact, tell the child that you will open the door again when the kid is in bed. If the child says he remains in bed, open the door.
Avoid lectures or sweet conversation. If your child just can not sleep, tell him he may check out or look at books in his room, however he is not to disrupt other individuals in the household. Applaud your kid for learning to self-soothe and drop off to sleep alone. Bear in mind that bedtime routines can be interrupted by changes or stresses, such as relocating to a brand-new home or gaining a new brother or sister.
She stated the suggestions covered a year "to be on the prudent side," however that the first six months were essential since that's when the threat of SIDS is highest." We don't know why, but it appears to be protective to have child oversleeping the exact same space as moms and dads, not in the very same bed but in the very same room," Dr.
The Only Guide for Getting Newborn Babies To Sleep
To back this up, the academy mentioned three research studies and an out-of-print book, "Abrupt Baby Death Syndrome (SIDS): New Trends in the Nineties." This is the very same proof the academy mentioned in 2011, when it also suggested room-sharing, however less prominently. The 3 studies are case-control research studies. That indicates scientists assembled records of babies who passed away of SIDS and matched them as carefully as possible, based on things like age or geography.

Reflecting On Being A Stay At Home Dad For Two Years: Eight Takeaways
I still remember the day my son was born like it was yesterday. After only about an hour of labor he joined us in this world at 11:58 pm. It was the greatest moment of both our lives.
From that time forward, we pledged to care for him as best we could. In a big way, all the years of saving and investing were to prepare for this moment that we could both be stay at home parents.
As first-time parents, we didn’t know what to expect. So we figured having both of us care for our boy would be the optimal way to go.
Here’s my personal reflection as a stay at home dad for the past two years. I’ve sent this post to his e-mail account for him to read when he’s a little bit older.
Reflecting On Being A Stay At Home Dad For Two Years
1) Losing income is hard, but losing time is harder. Due to being a stay at home dad for two years, I’ve lost out on between $400,000 – $1,000,000 in income. With 18-20 years of experience in finance and online media, getting a $200,000 – $250,000 a year job + restricted stock units is very possible in the SF Bay Area. If I were to go back to banking, my base salary would be $250,000 a year + bonuses equal to 0% – 200% of base salary.
Although losing out on so much income is hard given we now have more expenses taking care of our son, I wouldn’t miss out on the first two years of my son’s life for any amount of money.
You could give me a billion dollars, and if I had to be away from home for 14 hours a day to make that money, I would decline. I’ve spent time with billionaires before, and they are just like you and me, except they fly private everywhere.
Over the past two years, I have witnessed his every milestone: his first smile, his first rollover, his first crawl, his first steps, his first words, and so many more. Each milestone witnessed felt like a blessing. I hope due to all the time both of us have spent with him, we will have an even stronger bond as he grows up.
I’ve gotten to know a couple of nannies over the two years and they have told me how they won’t tell the parents about new milestones so that the parents can think they are first time witnesses.
I knew I could always make more money but I could never create more time with our son.

2) Hardest job in the world without a doubt. For all the stay at home parents out there, I salute you! And for all the single parents out there, you have my deepest admiration.
Working 14 hours a day in banking where there’s constant pressure to produce is a walk in the park in comparison to full-time fatherhood.
With full-time fatherhood, you are on 24/7 due to risk of injury or death by the child. The first year of life is the most fragile, which is why you’re always on high alert for choking, suffocation, tumbles, running into a corner, and so forth.
I kept reading stories about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), which were all so incredibly heartbreaking. For the first year, this paranoia wouldn’t let me sleep uninterrupted for more than 3-4 hours. Back is best and get rid of all the blankets and pillows in the crib please.
Once your child starts to verbalize his or her desires, it’s all about repetition. My son loves garage doors and will say the words “garage door,” “double-wide garage door,” “quadruple wide brown garage door” etc over and over again. He’ll then open and close garage door toys a hundred times in a row. I’ve got to repeat the words and open and close the doors with him. Otherwise, he knows I’m not paying attention.
I’ve also heard whines, screams, and crying 3 – 6X a day for 730+ days in a row. In the beginning, this was quite a shock to the system because we never had any of this since my wife and I started shacking up in 2001. Our boy is a top 1% chatterbox and super determined individual. If he can’t do something or doesn’t get what he wants, he definitely makes himself heard or felt!
Over time, things are getting better as he’s able to verbally communicate his needs and desires. He’s no longer as frustrated because he can tell us he’s tired, thirsty, hungry, sad, and so forth.
And here’s the kicker. My wife did around 70% of the care-taking largely due to nursing needs, and I still felt being a stay at home dad was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. One must develop incredible patience and endurance to survive.
3) Have children and the money will come. Although both my wife and I gave up healthy salaries to raise our boy full-time, we were somehow able to make more money each year after he was born.
When you have a child, your mind and body go into overdrive to try and provide as much care and support as possible. As a result, you gain even more energy to find ways to financially support your family.
In my case, instead of waking up between 5:30 am – 6:15 am to start the day and work on Financial Samurai, I began waking between 3:30 am – 4:30 am to try and get more done before our son would wake up between 7 am – 8 am.
I did not quit because I knew I could not. My family depended on me.
If he has had a particularly poor sleeping night, I would try and take over for a couple hours to allow for my wife to sleep in or decompress. I’d also try to nap as many times as possible during his mid-day nap so that I too could recharge for the afternoon and evening sessions.
After our boy went to bed, usually between 7:30pm-9pm, it was often Netflix, catching up on work stuff I’d postponed during the day, and preparing myself for the next day.
Once he turned 24 months old, our son now has the ability to go from 6:30am – 7:30pm non-stop with no naps several days a week.
Just the other day I took him on a 1 hour 20 minute walk in the morning around our hilly neighborhood. I would have bet anything he’d take a two hour nap after lunch. But he just kept right on going until 8pm!
Overall, we are talking about 4:00am – 10pm days on average with a 45 minute nap in the middle of the day.
As the saying goes, “the days are long and the years are short.”
4) Easy to gain weight and get sick. When all you’re doing is caring for your baby at home, it’s extremely easy to gain weight. I went from around 168 lbs to 173 lbs, even though I was consciously trying not to overeat.
But after about the 18th month, I started losing weight and am back down to about 166 – 169 lbs. The main reason why is because I’ve started to take my boy on almost daily walks. I also went back to playing tennis three days a week.
For men who are looking to have a baby and stay at home, I suggest trying to lose 5 – 10 lbs before your baby is born. That way, you’ll have a 5 – 10 lbs buffer for the inevitability.
Another downer is the increased frequency of getting sick after the first year. Our boy got his first cold at 12 months old. Then he started getting sick about once a quarter as we interacted more with the public.
His sickness spread to us, and we found ourselves frequently battling colds as well. Luckily, neither my wife or have have been sick at the same time.
Ideal healthy weight chart for men
5) Nannies aren’t paying close enough attention. I’m really sad to report this but after spending over 150 sessions in a public setting (park, museum, playground, etc), the vast majority of nannies (90%+) are on their phones the entire time they are supposed to be watching over your child.
Every time I play chase with my boy, there will inevitably be 2-3 kids who will play along because their nannies are not playing with them. I’ve seen countless falls by 11-16-month-olds just learning to walk because their nannies are not paying attention.
I often wonder whether one of the reasons for slow speech development is because the nanny simple does not spend enough time speaking to their child or describing things to the child as they happen. We parents should be verbally describing everything our children are doing and seeing to help them learn. But with nannies, what I’ve observed is largely silence.
If you are having difficulty deciding whether to return to work or staying home to take care of your child, I recommend you chose to stay home if your can afford to. Nobody will care more about your child than you. It’s not even close.
Many of us are addicted to our mobile phones. The nannies I’ve seen take it to the next level. It’s like they’re getting paid for being on the phone!
If you go the nanny route, I would explicitly tell them to stay off their phones during play time. Whether they do so or not is up to them. But at least you’ve voiced your desires and there’s a greater chance your nanny will follow your instructions.
It is completely sad and a wee bit alarming to have a little one come up to me, a stranger, and ask me to play with them because they are being completely ignored.
6) There was no discrimination. You sometimes hear stories about moms excluding dads from conversations or moms whispering mean words about dads being stay at home parents.
Out of all my outings, I have never once been discriminated against or been made to feel embarrassed or bad for being a stay at home parent. None of my friends have taken jabs at me either.
Maybe it’s because I live in San Francisco, where we’re very accepting of people. Maybe it’s because my wife was also with me during most public settings. Or maybe it’s because I’m a proud dad who is more impervious to the disapproval of others.
Don’t let our insecurities run amuck.
Once I went with a moms group walk around Golden Gate Park and we decided to take a break under a large tree. All the moms started to breastfeed their children, but only one had a shawl. It frankly felt weird to be around the group, so I decided to take a short walk instead.
For all the stay at home dads out there who would rather say you retired early, are a freelancer or entrepreneur, you don’t have to be ashamed that your wife or partner is bringing home the bacon.
Embrace your occupation as a stay at home dad. It is the most important job in the world!
7) Wish I started sooner. I find that men are a little to relaxed about when to have children because we don’t have the same biological deadline as women do. We like to avoid the subject for as long as possible. But this is not fair to women who want to have children. Have a mature discussion early in your relationship.
Physically, I’m still holding up pretty well. But I’m definitely not as limber as I used to be and it takes me longer to recover from a cold or a sports injury. After about age 45, I’m not sure if my body would be able to handle all the necessary bending over and carrying any more.
Having one kid makes me want to have a second. Therefore, it’s good to plan as much as possible. Even if you plan, it might take longer than expected to have a child.
If you know you want to have children, it’s better to have them sooner rather than later. Not only will your body be able to better handle childcare, but your kids might also be able to spend more time with their aging grandparents.
See: When Is The Best Time To Have A Baby
8) You never feel like you’re doing enough. I’m constantly in awe of my wife because of her patience, kindness, and ability to naturally feed our boy when he was a baby.
As a stay at home dad, my son and I have a close connection, but it’s not as close as the connection he has with his mom. As a result, I used to feel a little sad when he cried out for mommy while I was right there playing with him.
What am I, chop liver or something? I’d sometimes think to myself.
Because I’m unable to nurse our boy, I try to make up for my deficiency in other ways: cleaning, driving, grocery shopping, playing, washing dishes, ordering food and so forth. I’d throw myself deep into my work in order to feel the power of being a provider.
Slowly, I’m starting to feel more worthy of being a father. As he gets older I hope all he’ll want to do is play with his old man. It’s just such a weird feeling to never feel like you’re doing enough no matter how hard you try.
Proud To Be A SAHD
After two years of being a stay at home dad, I’m firmly on the side of the rest of the world that provides 6 – 12 months of parental leave after having a baby.
For a woman to return to work within three months seems cruel, especially if a C-section is involved. All a baby wants to do at that age is be with his or her parents.
One doctor said it best, “Nine months to create, nine months to heal.” If male managers and CEOs were at home every day helping their wives recover, they would be more empathetic as well.
Unfortunately, companies aren’t in the business of subsidizing our personal life decisions regarding having children. My hope is that American institutions will soon start to offer some type of token paid parental time off for at least the first child.
At the end of the day, I know my wife and I have tried our very best to raise him so far. Looking back, the two years went by quickly. Looking forward, I’m hoping for many more wonderful experiences.
Are there any stay at home dads out there who would like to share what it was like for you? Stay at home moms feel free to share your thoughts and also how your husband or partner has helped or how we dads can do more.

I know I would have regretted pursuing more money over time with my son. The guilt would have consumed me.

Ideal Weight Chart For Men
5) Nannies aren’t paying close enough attention.
One doctor said it best, “Nine months to create, nine months to heal.“
Unfortunately, companies aren’t in the business of subsidizing our personal life decisions regarding having children. My hope is that American institutions will soon start to offer some type of token paid parental time off for at least the first child.
At the end of the day, I know my wife and I have tried our very best to raise him so far. Looking back, the two years went by quickly. Looking forward, I’m hoping for many more wonderful experiences.

10 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me About Breastfeeding
(Source: Breastfeedingprobs)
You don’t always hear people say how hard it is to breastfeed. But it is. It's hard. Those first few weeks or even months can be a battle, and it seems like no one wants to tell us because they think they’ll scare us away. I think they underestimate us, and I think the denial of the challenges of breastfeeding are the real problem. If you bring your baby into the world thinking nursing is going to be dreamy and easy, and you’re met with reality at 3AM when you’ve had about five hours of sleep the entire week…well, it’s a shock. Now my baby is eight months old, and for the most part breastfeeding is pretty easy these days, but we had a rough start, as many others do. So here are ten things I wish someone had told me about breastfeeding, BEFORE I had my baby.
Your nipples are going to hurt. It drives me crazy when LCs are always spouting off how breastfeeding isn’t supposed to hurt, and if it is, you’re doing it wrong. Well, I’m here to tell you that you can do everything right, and it will still hurt. The absolute best things I have found to combat nipple pain is 100% pure lanolin, Earth Mama Angel Baby Natural Nipple Butter (I alternate the two), Medela’s gel soothies, and a properly fitting bra. I would encourage you to buy some bras that fit you as soon as your milk comes in, and once your supply settles, go back and buy a couple more that fit. Your breast size will change, and you may even lose quite a bit of weight in the first month. I went from a 36F to a 32DD after my supply settled, at around 6 weeks postpartum.
You don’t have to switch sides at every feeding. This is another misconception that seems to be pretty widespread. Try nursing on one side until your baby is satisfied, and he/she will unlatch, and then switch. If your baby doesn’t unlatch, don’t unlatch them. The only time I would unlatch baby is when he was in a deep sleep and I wanted to lay him down in his bed. If you switch sides too often, you may witness a frothy green poo in baby’s diapers, which may mean he/she is getting too much foremilk. If you let baby completely finish one side before switching to the other, baby will get the fattier hindmilk.
Your baby may want to nurse. All. Day. And that’s NORMAL. There will be days or even weeks where you seem to be glued to your couch with a baby on your boob. It’s normal. Keep in mind that your tiny human is brand new to this world, and you, Mommy, are your baby’s greatest source of comfort. You have a life that is solely dependent upon you for survival, and it is human instinct to want to be close to mommy. You are protector, giver of love, you smell amazing, and you keep baby’s belly full. So what if you let a few chores go? In a few months your newborn will sit up, crawl, walk, run, talk, sleep in his/her own bed, go off to college…etc. In a few short months you will look back at pictures of your tiny baby and miss every moment. When you’re old, you will never remember what chores didn’t get done. You will remember rocking your baby to sleep.
Your milk supply is fine. As long as your baby is wetting enough diapers and gaining weight, your supply is fine. Your baby may nurse all day and all night. Your baby may fuss and cry more often. He/she may fuss and cry every day from 5-8PM. Your baby may not poop for five days. Your baby may spit up what seems like truckloads of milk. Your baby may begin to nurse and suddenly pull off and fuss or cry. You may be pumping and suddenly find that you’ve only pumped four ounces instead of six. You may not be able to get anything to come out with a breast pump. But none of that means that you have low milk supply.
Your baby probably won’t sleep through the night any time soon. You may get lucky and have a baby that sleeps all night right away, and that’s great. The rest of us are insanely jealous. That is, until the four month sleep regression rolls around. But breastfed babies digest milk more quickly than formula fed babies, and therefore they get hungry more often. Including at night. My oldest son began sleeping through the night a few nights a week at five months old, and my youngest began sleeping all night at seven months old, but every now and then he will wake up at 5AM. My good friend’s two year just recently began sleeping through the night. All of this is normal, and it’s the reality of having a baby. You will get less sleep. Life will change. But it’s just a short time in your child’s life. It will pass.
Breastfed babies are difficult to get on a “schedule." This will drive some of you crazy, but you’ve got to let it go. I have attempted twice to put an exclusively breastfed infant on one of these infamous feeding schedules, and found it to be impossible. Sometimes my baby slept for two hours, sometimes for forty-five minutes. Sometimes he wanted to eat every thirty minutes, or not for three hours. He was impossible to predict. I gave up. But again, this is the reality of having a baby. You cannot fit your child into your old schedule. Your child now dictates your schedule. Society seems to hold disdain for letting your baby decide when he or she wants to eat, but for crying out loud, they're babies. They cannot lie or manipulate you. They are hungry when they’re hungry. Trying to schedule when they eat and sleep is just going to give you a headache. As baby gets older, you may notice a pattern of eating and sleeping. At one month old I established a bedtime routine for my kids, and at six months I put them on a "schedule” that suited their needs. But ultimately they decided what that schedule would look like.
Don’t compare your breastfed baby to formula fed babies. Try not to compare your child to other children in any case, but I know it’s difficult. However, comparing your breastfed baby to formula fed babies is impossible. They have different growth patterns and feeding habits. Formula takes longer for a baby to digest than breast milk, and formula fed babies are often on “schedules” of eating every 3-4 hours. But newborn breastfed infants will likely want to nurse more often than this, for hunger or comfort or anything else.
Studies show that breastfed babies cry or are more irritable than formula fed babies. This too is normal. This crying and fussiness is not a sign of distress or hunger. Researchers believe that this is just a normal part of babyhood, and that babies fed formula cry less because they are not allowed to feel hunger or are overfed. A breastfed baby that cries may just want mommy for comfort. This is normal. Research shows that babies need your comfort and love, and they need to be close to you. Understand that your baby may cry more, but breast milk is still, and always will be, the best possible nutrition for your child.
Don’t be afraid to nurse in public. I felt very anxious and self conscious about nursing my first child in public places. I always went to a private room or hid behind something, and of course covered with blankets and capes. I still use a cover, but I will never breastfeed in a bathroom again. You shouldn’t either. Your baby deserves to eat wherever, whenever, just like a bottle fed baby. There’s no shame or embarrassment in that. Except in rare cases, no one else is really paying attention to what you’re doing anyway. If anyone does have a rude comment, don’t let that deter you. The more we nurse in public, the more people will become familiar with it, and the more it will become normal.
Breastfeeding is more than just feeding your baby. You’re providing comfort, pain relief, reassurance, stress relief, social interaction, visual development, nurturing, protection during illness, and reducing the risk of SIDS. Breastfeeding increases the release of oxytocin in both you and baby. You reduce your risk of breast cancer, and your child may enjoy lower blood pressure and healthier arteries throughout life. And once you get past these difficult first weeks, breastfeeding is a breeze. It really is dreamy and easy. Fewer dishes, fewer things to remember to pack in your diaper bag, fewer hassles in the middle of the night. And an immense amount of benefits for your child, for life.
I hope this list didn’t scare you away, like some of the experts seem to think. The reality is that having a baby isn’t easy, and breastfeeding can be difficult at first, especially when you don’t have adequate support. I had no idea what challenges I would face when I began, but I also never knew the real benefits I was providing until much later, and something other than “breast is best” would’ve been more encouraging. But everything here is the honest truth, from a mom of two, and I wish you the best on your breastfeeding journey.

Motilal Oswal S&P 500 Index Fund NFO – Should you invest?
Motilal Oswal S&P 500 index fund NFO is launching today for subscription. There is a huge noise around this fund. The reason is that this is an Index Fund and it is INTERNATIONAL Fund. But should you invest?
In India, Index Funds are gaining popularity and I am also one among them to recommend to all my clients. In fact, I already have written my recommendation on my yearly article about my fund choices at “Top 10 Best SIP Mutual Funds to invest in India in 2020“.
There was a huge demand for an international fund in India. Because we all wish to have our investment diversified across the globe also. Hence, considering this trend, Motilal Oswal launching the new fund offer which will track the oldest Index S&P 500 Index.
Motilal Oswal S&P 500 index fund is an index fund that invests in the companies that are part of the S&P 500 Index (US) in the same weightage as in the index. The objective of this fund is to seek investment return corresponds to (before fees & expenses) the performance of the S&P 500 Index (US), subject to tracking error.
What is S&P 500 Index?
Before discussing about this fund, let us first understand the S&P 500 Index.
It was created in 1957, the index is one of the oldest indexes with over a 60-year live track record. The S&P 500 was the first US market-cap-weighted stock market index. Today, it’s the basis of many listed and over-the-counter investment instruments.
The S&P 500 is a proxy for the US equity market, and it is the only stock market benchmark serving as an economic indicator in The Conference Board Leading Economic Index. It has stood for US stock market performance in that context since 1968.
The S&P 500® index includes 500 leading companies that are diversified across all 11 Sectors. The index covers approximately 82% of available market capitalization that are listed on US Stock Exchanges.
The index is regarded as the best single gauge of large-cap US equities. There is over USD 9.9 trillion indexed or benchmarked to the index, with indexed assets comprising approximately USD 3.4 trillion of this total making it the largest and most widely traded index in the world. For more information on the S&P 500 Index (click here).
The current top holdings of the Index are as below.

This much understanding about S&P 500 Index.
What is Motilal Oswal S&P 500 Index Fund?
Motilal Oswal S&P 500 index fund is an index fund that invests in the companies that are part of the S&P 500 Index (US) in the same weightage as in the index. The objective of this fund is to seek investment return corresponds to (before fees & expenses) the performance of the S&P 500 Index (US), subject to tracking error.
What is an Index Fund?
An index fund is a type of mutual fund which constructs its portfolio by tracking the composition of a standard market index such as the Nifty 50 or the Sensex. The fund not only invests in stocks that constitute the benchmark index but also the same proportion.
For example – a rise of 1% in the index will lead to a 1% increase in the fund and vice versa. There are numerous indexes (Nifty50, Nifty 500, Nifty Smallcap 150) and many others.
Index Funds are popular mainly for the below reasons:-
Low expense
For long term Index Funds obviously a better choice.
No mad rush to search for BEST Mutual Fund.
Alpha and beta are two of the most important concepts in investing in mutual funds.
Beta represents market returns or benchmark returns. This index funds are built to deliver beta (market) returns.
Alpha represents the return in excess of beta returns. For example if the market/benchmark delivers 8% whereas a fund manager delivers 10%, alpha is 2%.
Every fund manager’s goal is to provide alpha. If he/she fails to deliver alpha, then investors are better off investing in beta products (index funds).
The above points are shared from the Motilal Oswal S&P 500 index fund details. I don’t want to into all those questions or in detail about SID.
Motilal Oswal S&P 500 Index Fund NFO – Should you invest?
Let us now discuss on the main aspect of this post. Should we invest in Motilal Oswal S&P Index Fund NFO?
International LOVE:-
Many of us have a tendency to diversify our investment INTERNATIONALLY. Also, many are running behind this NFO just because it is investing in the US market.
Sadly for many of these investors, INTERNATIONAL=USA. They are unable to understand the basics of investment that even if you NEED international exposure, it should not be a particular country-specific. By investing in USA based funds, are you not creating a concentrated risk in your portfolio?
Many have reason to invest in this particular fund by quoting John Bogle as he is the founder and major force to accept that Index Funds are BEST.
His simple Five-Fund Portfolio is as below:-
Large Cap-50%, Mid Cap-10%, Small Cap-20%, Sector specific-10% and International-10%. However, he again stress and share what is meant by International Fund.
I am quoting what John Bogle said in his famous book “Common Sense on Mutual Funds”.
“While I talked about international as a single asset class, I now believe it has two distinct components: developed markets (Britain, Germany, France, etc.) and emerging markets (Singapore, China, India, Brazil, etc.). In this increasingly globalized economy, I see little reason to invest heavily in the former group and would prefer to emphasize the latter (with its smaller but more rapidly growing base, and of course its higher risk). But I’d still limit the international componenet of the portfolio to no more than 20 percent of the equity position”.
It is now relevant that International does not mean one particular country. It should be in multiple countries to diversify your international exposure.
If we look into this aspect, I never consider this particular fund as my international fund. Because it is country-specific. Hence, don’t believe that by investing in this fund, you are DIVERSIFYING your equity exposure.
Taxation of Motilal Oswal S&P 500 Index Fund
When adopt index investing the primary reason is cost. Whether the cost is because of TER (Total Expense Ratio) or because of tax.
If we consider Motilal Oswal S&P 500 index fund, it is treated for us (Indian investors) as a debt fund. Hence, if your holding period is within 3 years, then the taxation is as per your tax slab (Add a surcharge to it). Suppose you are under 30% tax bracket, then you have to pay the 30% tax on such gain.
However, if you hold it for more than 3 years, then the tax will be 20% with indexation (Add surcharge).
This is a huge differentiator for Indian investors when it comes to the cost of investing. If you are investing in the Indian Index Fund (ETF or Index Mutual Funds), the taxation is as per the current equity taxation rules.
However, if opted this fund, because of your taxation, you may end up in adding more expenses in the form of tax.
Expense Ratio
As per Motilal Oswal claim it is mentioned that it is currently at 0.5%. Even if we consider this as our real and forever expense ratio, then it still costly compared to other Index Funds in India (I am concentrating on Large Cap Index Funds and ETFs).
Do remember that this TER will not permanent. Because we know from past experience that how abruptly Indian Mutual Fund Companies change the TER (within SEBI regulation). Hence, I do not jump into this fund just because the current expense ratio is mentioned as 0.5% (for direct funds).
Tracking Error
When we discuss the Index Fund, the utmost important aspect we have to look for is Tracking Error. The product one-pager mentions this line “Return that corresponds to the performance of S&P 500 Index subject to tracking error”.
Because the fund’s tracking error is utmost important when are choosing the Index Fund.
I will again copy paste the same wordings what they defined in their SID “The Fund Manager would not be able to invest the entire corpus exactly in the same proportion as in the underlying index due to certain factors such as the fees and expenses of the Scheme, corporate actions, cash balance and changes to the underlying index and regulatory restrictions, lack of liquidity which may result in Tracking Error. Hence it may affect AMC’s ability to achieve close correlation with the underlying index of the Scheme. The Scheme’s returns may, therefore, deviate from its underlying index. “Tracking Error” is defined as the standard deviation of the difference between daily returns of the underlying index and the NAV of the Scheme. The Fund Manager would monitor the Tracking Error of the Scheme on an ongoing basis and would seek to minimize the Tracking Error to the maximum extent possible. There can be no assurance or guarantee that the Scheme will achieve any particular level of Tracking Error relative to the performance of the Underlying Index.”
Tracking error plays an important role while investing in Index Funds. However, we can’t judge this tracking error at the NFO level.
# Size of the Fund
When we invest in Index Funds, the size of the fund also matters to us. Usually, higher the AUM the better for the fund manager to manage the sudden redemption or investment by investors. Hence, even though we don’t have any other such kind of fund, I don’t think we need to just jump into this fund for the sake of our INTERNATIONAL LOVE.
Conclusion:-As I pointed above, for me International means not to a single country-specific. Also, it is premature to judge the fund performance (even though it is an Index Fund) at the NFO level. Hence, I suggest you wait and watch the game rather than BLINDLY jumping into FANCY. I am not discussing here how much should be our international exposure. I am satisfied with my low expensive Indian Index Funds rather than high cost and high taxed international funds.
