Time to answer some more of your questions. I have a lot this time, and still a lot left I’ll have to save to another post. You are all very good at being curious and asking interesting questions. There are also some asks that are replies to old asks, and then I’ll include the link to the referenced post.

Ask 1 - About KTH1 and expectations

Ok, so I did write a shit post about this... (I mean… This is literally all Vmin’s songs so far ), but I still think your questions are worth a proper answer.

Honestly I think speculating about KTH1 is kind of hard, and as seen in the shit post I am quite torn with my expectations... In general I am the type who doesn’t like to expect too much in fear of being disappointed. I rather be pleasantly surprised. That being said Vmin does have a track record of getting involved in each other’s songs. I mean a lot is just speculation of course, but we do have confirmed cases as well, enough to not be too surprised if they would keep it up and do something for Tae’s solo album as well. (Tae saying his mixtape would be named Jimin back in 2016 still haunts me.)

On the other hand, they have already given us a lot of collabs. Adding more would feel more like a statement, at least if it would be only Jimin out of the members on that album. The thing is that if Vmin would have something “real” or at least if they are a bit careful with how they come across... I am not sure they would do something too “obvious”. But where such a line would be drawn is impossible to know. I mean clearly they managed to write and sing Friends and it worked fine, even if they did get more attention as a ship.

We also know Tae has been quite loud about Jimin in ways that single him out, so maybe they would really dare push the boundaries as far as actually including Jimin in the album somehow. It’s also very possible there could be other members, and honestly we probably shouldn’t hyper focus too much on it and that it has to mean something no matter if anyone is on it or not.

I think one of the rappers being on it is probably more likely out of the members, but it seems Tae has shown an interest in collabs with people outside of BTS, so that’s kind of what I am expecting the most. No matter who in the group is on it I am sure fans will make a big deal out of it, and maybe Tae would rather have his own thing for his first album. I really don’t know how his thoughts would go.

But again, looking at how Tae and Jimin has talked about working together, and have had moments like Tae promising Jimin a song or Tae saying they will work together again... It’s definitely not impossible to get another Vmin song. I do feel it’s more likely for any connections to be vague and not instantly noticeable though (at least not anything romantic looking because we know what happened to the Christmas song). Especially considering how they have only recently revealed things like 4 clock’s inspiration more openly and had Friends followed by Sweet Night. My main stance for any possible real ship is still that they have reason to be careful, and yet another Vmin collab, on Taehyung’s first personal album would probably raise some eyebrows considering everything else we already have. But it could also be me over analyzing them, and maybe they just really like and want to work together. Tae for sure has after all been vocal about this preference and want to work with Jimin.

So yeah, on one hand they have a track record that is hard to ignore... But on the other I wonder if they might want to add another “point” for ARMY to look at them and their songs. I also don’t want to assume that if there are songs on there that sound romantic that they automatically will be about Jimin. There will have to be legit possible connections for me to acknowledge them.

It’s tricky. I guess we will have to wait and see. I am kind of scared both that there won’t be anything or that there will be SOMETHING. Thank you for the ask, and I hope I shed some light on my thoughts on this subject. Either way I am very excited and looking forward to an album full of Taehyung’s own songs and the stories he wants to tell.

Ask 2 - KTH1 spoiler with “Oh lady”

I am not sure it is “lady”, since it’s a bit unclear in general. He also has a part that just seems to go “do be do” and I don’t know if the lyrics are even finished or if he worked with someone else etc. We basically lack a lot of information. But even so using lady/her/she etc. in a song doesn’t have to mean it is about a specific person or that the person is a she or that it is Taehyung’s own feelings (I know he said he usually sings about things he have felt, but just saying it doesn’t always have to be). 

Of course I don’t want to downplay it and say it doesn’t mean anything, but considering their fanbase is majority women, they live in a homophobic country and he has even been denied to sing a romantic song with a man before, it’s not impossible to add that to make it more “relatable” or less “gay”. God, that sounds terrible. I don’t want to start discussions where we don’t take their words for what they are, so I hope you might understand my point of view. That being said of course it could just as easily be to or about a specific woman in his life that we don’t know about. Or as you say, he isn’t actually in love but is simply writing love songs that could be inspired by non-romantic relationships or movies etc. as was the case for his inspiration for Winter Bear.

Tae also used “she” in Winter Bear, and that seems a bit forgotten. Or people try to say it has to be about his grandmother... Which we obviously don’t know, it’s just the woman people jump to since he used “she” and many people don’t like the idea of him dating a woman or writing about a woman we don’t know. Either way I think we need to remember that anything is possible and we don’t know them personally and how they think or why they choose to do what they do.

I think we need to remember that there is always going to be the possibility that ships aren’t real, that the romantic songs aren’t about Jimin and that either one of them could be in a relationship with someone else (all genders included).

Ask 3 - Vminies getting superiority complex

Hello! I want to address something that has been bothering me for a while now. I have been seeing some vminnies have a superiority complex just bcoz they ship vmin. Its very rampant among new vminnies and twt vminnies. I get that we all feel validated and happy when out OTP claim to be soulmates and bff. I feel that way too. But people have to remember that vmin are real people and their relationship is dynamic. Like they did grow from bff who used to tease e/o and fight alot to soulmates who are gentle and caring. Who is to say that one day they wont drift apart (i hope not and dont think thats gonna happen but for argument sake) so there is no reason to feel superior or look down on other shippers. 

If people think vminnies are superior bcoz they are not toxic they probably know they are lying. Lbr i have seen my share of toxic vminnies though may be a lesser number but they are there and its not the ship but its that particular person who is at fault. While i agree that some ship theories cultivate hate and toxicity there may be people among those ships who are just as sane and good as we claim to be. I just wanted to address this bcoz seeing some vminnies on twt saying locals thinking vmin were tgt after coway add is a validation kind of triggered me. I m sure there would have been similar responses to any other ship bcoz they all have been tgt for a decade and are very comfortable with e/o. I just wanted to talk to someone about this and i know you have discussed similar topics in the past. So yeah this was very long.

First of all, on request I won’t show your name, but thank you for sending me this and letting me know who you are. It’s always nice to know who is behind the question. But that being said I don’t mind people asking on anon, I totally get it being a lot easier to ask or question things when you don’t have to reveal yourself. Either way I am just glad to get interesting and important topics and I do think the things you bring up are worth talking about.

As you say, there is this thing when people start to feel and act superior for various reasons, and I too have seen some Vminies do this. Getting a lot of moments is sure nice. But honestly, just imagine if another ship came and mocked Vmin or gloated every time they got more moments. It has surely happened too, and I am sure it doesn’t feel very nice when on the negative end. Just be a decent human, ship moments will always vary and it’s great to be happy about getting moments, but there is no need to compare or look down on other ships. I say it again, shipping is not a competition, just enjoy your own ship and let others enjoy theirs.

As for feelings superior based on group behavior I think we really need to stop looking at groups and start looking at individuals, both when it comes to groups we are part of and groups we consider “bad”. I have said it many times, but individuals of other groups we don’t agree with won’t all be bad, or all stupid or young etc. We might want to tell ourselves they are worse, but it really doesn’t change much. 

Being “less bad” it not a merit and it shouldn’t be a competition. We all have our own selves to answer to and we should judge other people based on their actions and not based on what group they might belong to.

I think size and the toxicity of a narrative can lead to more people in certain groups behaving in toxic ways... But I think any person could happen to fall into these behaviors if not careful and aware. Often the change is gradual too, or you feel attacked by the other “rival group” and thus feel it’s justified to attack back, and so it escalates.

Vminies are at the moment as a group smaller, and thus have less “bad apples”. We likely also have a narrative for Vmin that doesn’t require as toxic mindsets, for example extreme jealousy or Vmin being forced to hide. But there for sure are still toxic Vminies, and there are also a lot of non-toxic shippers in all groups. Usually the louder ones are also the worst ones while the chill and nice will remain in their own lane and ship more peacefully. But being part of a smaller group doesn’t make you superior, your actions is what is important.

As for small moments getting noticed or other types of “validation” for your ship, of course it’s going to feel nice. However, what people see and think of any relationship in BTS is still just an outsider view and literally has no meaning for their actual relationship beyond it being a cute moment. That’s why size and popularity also doesn’t matter as any kind of “proof”. Interpretation will always just be interpretation, good or bad, if you like it or not.

Sadly I think we will get more and more toxic behavior from more ships as the fandom grows and as some things get more normalized within those ships’ communities. It’s about certain behaviors growing into a community culture... The more toxicity that is allowed the more others will follow. That’s why bringing up the problems is important, but trying to do so without shunning people so that they don’t go and create their own space where everyone else is the enemy. After all, being open and welcoming and understanding is much more likely to make someone listen and even change their mind than by attacking them.

I answer for my own actions. So does every person. I don’t want to be judged for everything every Vminie or ARMY or Multi K-pop fan etc. has done. Generalization is a huge problem in general, not just in fandoms or ship wars. I do try to be a positive influence, to not judge too harshly and to remember that being hostile won’t help any situation. But that’s about it. I am glad you brought up this topic, because talking about it is important, but sadly I don’t think there is a lot that can be done about it. Just try to be nice and open minded.

Ask 4 - Not dismissing the bond between Vmin and the other boys

Thank you. I really see no need for it. It’s clear as day that they all love each other, and even if one pair would happen to be romantic instead of platonic that won’t change. We don’t have to compare and we definitely don’t have to downplay the moments they share with each other. All shippers should at the very least accept the the things they do and say as mostly genuine. I trust BTS and what they show us, it’s that easy.

I know some also get influenced by toxic fans, but we really need to remember that no narratives by fans matter when it comes to reality and what bonds BTS share with each other. They are all great people and seem to have such love and respect for each other I frankly don’t understand how you can be a fan if you think any of it is played up to the point some claim.

Likely no ship in BTS is real, but if any is, to me I am sure the ones involved would be happy and supported by the rest of the members. That’s why it doesn’t really matter what ship would be real or not real as long as they are happy. We shouldn’t let our own views and sometimes want or hopes affect the way be judge their reality. This applies for things outside shipping as well.

Ask 5 - Other people’s words can influence your thoughts

Indeed. The brain is a powerful thing. This is very obvious if you are a multi-shipper or a general fan, but BTS truly has a lot of questionable moments between all kinds of pairs. Focus is a interesting thing. If you like something you will notice it more, and you will also remember it more while you forget other moments. Likewise if something is “negative” like a rival ship you are likely to notice them more as well. This happens even if you just watch the general content and get your own bias. Imagine then how it might influence you when others keep repeating either your happy interpretations or things you worry about? You’ll get it stuck in your head and remember it more than other things.

Like isn’t it funny how we might gush about Vmin sharing beds, or worry about ji/kook or tae/kook cuddling while hope/kook literally sleep wrapped around each other in both Bon Voyage 3 and 4? Sometimes it’s all about perspective.

By now we need to realize that fan perspective will influence us a lot. And in particular if a lot of people say it or if it is presented in a way that makes it sound logical and intelligent. Words have power. 

I still think using “Vmin is dead” or spreading worry often in itself leads to people thinking it and it being somehow accepted as fact. In similar fashion getting to hear about certain ships or certain narratives will make us notice things in relation to that. My own words and posts too will have influence on some people that read them. That’s why I try to be so careful, and why I try to avoid using strong words or claims that might cement themselves in someone’s mind. (I’ll actually talk more about the power of language in my big analysis as well)

Thank you for your input, it’s definitely an interesting thing to consider and another aspect of why shipping mentality is so complicated. 

Ask 6 - Vmin not sharing rooms in Bon Voyage Malta

Hi and yes, I have answered this before HERE, but it’s ok. I know it’s not easy finding old topics amongst my collection posts.

In short I think Vmin wanted to share rooms but that Taehyung got fooled when Jimin stopped him from checking the upper room. Because it seemed like Jimin stopped him from walking into that room by saying he couldn’t peak Tae probably assumed it wasn’t Jimin’s room and that when Jimin said it was his room he was joking (his face was definitely something). So yeah, I think he just got fooled by Jimin’s statement about not being allowed to look inside the room before picking. There are other interesting things about this whole moment, but the one thing we should take away from it is how it is one out of now many examples that seem to show that Vmin have a preference to share rooms/beds. Thank you for the ask. :)

Ask 7 - Has being a Vmin shipper always been so overwhelming with all the content?

I wouldn’t say it’s something recent. I say it often, but we really do get very intense periods from time to time with many of the ships. For example in February 2017 with ISAC, fan signs and everything else we got a lot of Vmin too. I remember being overwhelmed myself, and that was coming out of BST era Vmin. We got many moments every day and that’s just one specific period I can remember. 

 Over the years sometimes we do get these very intense days or weeks with a lot of moments at once. Usually I get asks like “do you think something is up with Vmin lately” or “wow I can’t believe how much Vmin we have gotten lately” but really, it’s hard to tell, because it really does happen from time to time. I also still say we always get Vmin moments regularly as long as we get BTS content, but sometimes a bit more and sometimes less. I am sure there will be more times when we also get “Vmin is dead“ and worried people because we get less moments than they expect. It just happens, up and down and around it goes.

As for what ships are big I will definitely say Ji/kook and Tae/kook are the biggest, but that all BTS ships are big by now. Meaning as soon as we do get moments it will be seen online. Especially if you follow people who talk about it of course. I also think what platform you are on can result in some ships being seen more than others. For example I know ji/kook is by far the biggest BTS ship here on Tumblr while Youtube seems to have more tae/kookers.

Ask 8 - “Just a friend” interview

Ah yes, I have a bit of a soft spot for this interview myself. I am not sure, but I think it might be from 2017 (since Tae wrote a birthday letter to Jimin in 2016), or at least that’s when I found it and saved it down. I haven’t actually tracked the original source. You can find the translation in the link shared HERE, credits to @95z​.

Seeing this close after the chaos of Let’s BTS and other letter confessions it really does seem very cringe for them to express sincere thoughts in these more formal ways. I can’t blame them. 

I do think this interview is yet another example of how much Vmin has tried to adapt to each other, learn and be more open with expressing how they feel. They literally inspire and learn from each other in how to express themselves. Isn’t it completely endearing? 

I also love how they get each other to feel strong emotions and how they are there for each other when in need. On a slightly more analytical note I also can’t help but note the “just a friend” vs “soulmate” descriptions and how they seem to have a hard time putting it into proper words. We already know this of course, but yeah... They really don’t have an easy time describing their relationship.

Thank you so much for sharing this moment. I was going to talk about it in my big analysis anyways, but honestly I can’t save everything for it, and you mentioned it so who am I to keep it to myself.

Ask 9 - The garnet necklace

Oh yeah, I know that JK wore it once and that the talk was that a fan gave it to all of maknae line. Not much was ever confirmed from what I know, but regardless it doesn’t change why I think it’s a Vmin/soulmate necklace and why I see it as special.

Here is the thing, when I use “Vmin thing” it really doesn’t have to be exclusive. To me it’s the context around it and how they have used it and even reacted to it that makes the garnet necklace something special for Vmin. In the case of the soulmate necklace Vmin wore it a lot. Almost constantly during a big part of 2017 and even a bit into 2018. They also wore it at the same time a lot. I find this very cute, and we all know “couple items” is something all fans enjoy even if it would just be a platonic relationship behind it. But if both of them wearing it was all there was, as a lot of Vmin sharing clothes (or BTS in general sharing clothes) I wouldn’t really think too much about it beyond it being cute. It could still be just a cute thing that Vmin did, but I personally see it as something beyond the normal clothes/jewelry sharing.

(At the very least you can remember Vmin did this while people thought their relationship was dead, which doesn’t make much sense to do if you hate or dislike someone.)

The things I find more noteworthy about this necklace is the fact that the fandom picked up on it and because they wore it so much and so often at the same time it was dubbed the “soulmate necklace”. Possibly knowing this Tae also brought specific attention to the necklace at two times, as if wanting to show it off. Interestingly enough, in one of these times Jimin seemed to ignore Taehyung who was bringing attention to it on purpose. For me it came across as another thing Taehyung wanted to show off and that Jimin was a bit more careful about. 

Of course I could have read it wrong, maybe Jimin just misunderstood. But even so, Tae did bring attention to it in specific relation to Jimin. You can watch the clip HERE. (BTS Tell Us What They Love About Each Other & An Update On Tony & Nate From America Hustle Life) 

The other time was in Run ep. 39, right after Vmin talked about being in school together and showing off their school uniforms. If Tae is the one to try and highlight something, I feel it likely has some meaning to him at least.

Either way the necklace is basically a symbol of Vmin’s relationship and the fact that they liked it so much and wore it together during a long period I think they liked wearing it not only because they both happened to like the design but because they both had it. If JK also had one and didn’t use it of course it could include him, but I will still say it remains significant for Vmin’s bond with each other.

As for buying a necklace together they haven’t talked about this one in particular, but Tae did mention he bought his tiger necklace with Jimin in NY, so maybe you are mixing the two things up?

Ask 10 - Vmin in CMs

Thank you for loving my blog and for the ask! :) I am not sure if you perhaps meant in a lot of BTS own photoshoots/units as well, but I’ll focus on CMs in this post since that was your direct example. I might go a bit beyond here, but I saw it as a good chance to revisit some Vmin ad moments.

I wouldn’t personally say we have gotten “way more” but I do think because of their Friends unit they got to do some more interviews together and some CM stuff too. I also think we have gotten more BTS commercials in general now, likely because it’s an income alternative to touring during the pandemic. So that obviously means more CMs, and more chances for them to be paired up. They also have gotten paired with others of course (like in the Bodyfriend CM or Baskin Robbins), but most commonly they aren’t divided in smaller groups at all.

We also have gotten Vmin paired up before, both in photoshoots and in CMs. Of course we saw some great ones in 2016 with Puma and NUGU, but I don’t think we got that much more in 2016 and before than in 2017-2019. I think what we can see is BTS having more endorsements after Covid.

Like honestly, the Puma adds are iconic. Of course the original one, but also the revisits from 2018. Puma definitely seemed to like to pair Vmin in particular. (There are so many good examples from Puma that I’m not including)

We also got a snippet in the Hyundai one, also from 2018.

Another snippet from the Coconut Chicken ad from 2017.

I mean, I don’t know if I should count the snippets at all, like from BTS x VT cosmetics in 2019, but I feel sometimes just being seen in the same frame seems to get attention as being paired up so. (I decided to not include being together when it’s at least a third member in the frame)

And guys... Have you ever watched BTS and the milk song?

What did we get so far more recently? In 2020 we had the Hyundai interview.

Samsung gave us a snippet recently.

Coway was basically couple goals and like the best one in my own opinion (besides Puma because it is going to take a lot to beat Puma).

But other than that? I don’t think we have seen it that much, have we? I am not complaining or anything, like I am happy with what we got, but I don’t know if it’s that much. I might forget some obvious ones, but these were the ones I had top of mind. Feel free to add ads if you can think of more recent ones that I left out.

So I think we have gotten more BTS ads in general, also more where they are not all of them or single focus, and that we have seen maybe Vmin getting paired a little more after Friends. But to me there is such a small difference I can’t really say if it is anything particular to Vmin or just BTS doing more CMs.

I mean, I don’t have a sheet of who has been paired with who and how many times over the years. But either way I don’t think we should look too deeply into things like CMs or even photoshoots units. Thanks for the ask though, I hope you enjoyed this mini collection. :)

Ask 11 - Taehyung uncomfortable about shipping/tae*kook?

So this is a thought sent in after THIS ASK though it really brings up a new subject, which is that of Tae possibly being uncomfortable with shipping. As for Tae saying that to a tae/kooker in particular I think we have to remember it could very easily just have been in the moment and we can’t know why he decided to reply to that person in particular.

The Vmin post was not invasive and it wasn’t romantic. I mean, I do think Tae keeps showing again and again that if there is any person in BTS that is special to him it’s Jimin. But the difference in the posts also likely matters, but we can’t know how much. We don’t know if Tae would feel annoyed if a Vminie wrote the same thing as the tae/kooker did, and we don’t know if it was just in that moment that he got fed up with the shipping discourse in general, or if it was because it was tae/kook.

Honestly any shipper, regardless if a ship would eventually prove to be real or not, should not go and invade spaces where the boys get exposed to it. We don’t know if Taehyung would have reacted in a similar way if it happened to be another ship.

Personally I don’t think tae/kook drifted apart as a result of shipping, because honestly they still kept being pretty intimate physically and engaged in fanservice on stage etc. If they truly were uncomfortable with the idea I just don’t think they would “feed it” much at all. I think as they said in ITS they just, kind of changed and it became harder to talk. I’ve talked more about tae/kook and my views on their bond in THIS POST and a little in THIS POST as well as about BTS possible stance on shipping HERE.

I also think all of BTS has a pretty good distance from hate and fandom speculations in general. I think that because they know about shipping and partly also feed into it they probably expect crazy people to some degree as well, even if they probably don’t like it. Hetero shippers as well, or solo stans etc. have very toxic behaviors at times, but I think BTS can recognize that it is kind of “bound to happen” with their popularity, no matter what they do about it. Not saying they would like it, and they could definitely feel awkward or annoyed because of it, but it doesn’t seem to bother them too much as I think they can detach themselves from it pretty well.

I also think “fan opinions” in form of rival shipping wouldn’t really harm a hidden couple as it first would likely be a sort of “shield” and second because they have their relationships and are likely comfortable with them on their own terms. What fans think is probably secondary.

It is possible that they could get annoyed or frustrated at times, but again, if they truly felt bothered by it they probably wouldn’t do a lot of the things they do. Because I am sure they are aware to some degree that fans scrutinize their every move and ship moments. Both Tae and Jimin are some of the most physical out of the members, and also some of the members that seem to like to initiate fanservice moments... So I doubt they would have much problem and can feel secure enough in their relationship no matter what fans think.

Ask 12 - What did Jimin write on his shirt in Run ep. 53?

Hi, I guess you got curious after I talked about this episode recently in my post Ask: Reply - 2021.03.30 (Ask 8 - Going down the rabbit hole, micromoments and shipping vs believing).

I don’t know hangul, but I do know what “Jimin” looks like. On Jimin’s shirt from behind the scenes of Run ep. 53 you can see he’s written his own name “지민” Jimin followed by what looks to be “ 님 “ which is nim. So basically the text on the container in the picture says Sir Jimin.

Jimin seemed very keen on writing his name on both his own shirt and on Tae’s and even tried on JK’s. He failed of course, but he sure did try.

Ask 13 - Gina Maeng ask follow up

Glad you liked my reply. :) (From Ask: Reply - 2021.03.30  Ask 4 - Idols dating members of the same group). Yeah I get what you mean, talking about it openly I suppose isn’t so normal. But since it seems to be more and more fans who assume it happens to some degree maybe it’s not so strange if it starts getting more talked about as well. I’ll take it as a good sign, even if the information is nothing new in itself, being more open is going to make it easier for fans to realize it’s possible for their idols to be LGBT+ or have hidden relationships.

As for K-Population it doesn’t seem to be too well known, but it’s one of few actual examples to be found. So yeah, interesting that we know it has happened, and also that it shows what risks it could mean to get involved with a group member. I think the risk of a falling out is something a lot of shippers tend to forget. Anyways, thank you for your reply. ^_^

But really, we can all just watch Vmin in awe and be happy they have each other and feel such immense love for each other, no matter what that love is. It’s kind of amazing. Like even if they are platonic their relationship is so wholesome and they put so much love and effort into it that it’s truly inspirational. I love when we get bombed with moments like this with a very intense period of great Vmin interactions. As you, me too never fail to feel all soft watching them together.

I have finally finished watching blooms at ruyi pavilion and i have mixed feelings about this drama. The obvious reason I watched this drama is bcoz i miss zhang zhehan. I liked his character in this drama. I feel like his character in the drama is comparatively softer than his character in legend of yunxi and he looks really cute in this drama. I wouldn’t say it’s a good drama but i think it wasn’t bad too. I feel like this drama could have been a lot better if the scriptwriter and editors did a good job. I feel like some of scenes were not edited and cut properly. I mean, i would be enjoying a scene but then it would abruptly move to the next scene, i feel like the transition wasn’t smooth during some of the scenes. The dubbing also sucked for me at the beginning but slowly i got used to it and i was fine with it. The funny thing is zhou zhisu’s voice actor dubs another character in this drama and i think bcoz i watched word of honor a lot, it just felt weird to hear another actor that is not zhang zhehan having zhou zhisu’s voice but slowly i got used to it. All the romantic secenes between duke su/xu jin (zhang zhehan’s character) and fu rong (ju jingyi’s character) were really cute and i wish there were more and long romantic scenes between them. The second couple were also really cute and their story was also quite good. My favorite scene of them would be when they had a romantic date on a wheel chair. I know that was supposed to be a romantic scene but i found that scene really hilarious . What I really disliked was the second male lead duke an. I did feel a bit bad for him when he died at the end coz he did so many bad things to take revenge for his mother’s death, only to realize at the end, that his mother was actually alive but i will never forgive him coz he really didn’t care about other people’s lives except for the female lead and he harmed and tried to kill xu jin many times. Also, I didn’t like how fu rong never completely trusted xu jin. She literally blamed xujin for the death of her father, her master and a member of the ruyi pavilion. I do understand that there were certain coincidences and there were false evidences and situations created so as to present xu jin as the murderer but since she loved him, i wish she could have trusted that he would never do anything that will hurt her.There were also situations when i wished xu jin had also trusted fu rong a bit more but there were more situations i wished fu rong had trusted him more.

I feel like this drama has a lot of flaws but it also had the potential to be a better drama. All the actors did a great job. The customes were good too but i feel like ju jingyi’s make up was a bit overdone in some of the scenes. I mean, even in the funeral, she had the same make up and she looked too bright with those bright colored eye shadows and lipstick even in the funeral and i prefer her makeup in the legend of yunxi more than this drama. Some of the scenes felt unnecessary and boring but some of the scenes were also really cute. If only the scriptwriters and editors had done a bit better job, this drama would have been better. Another thing i liked about this drama was their ending. I was completely satisfied with the ending and i am glad that it was a happy ending unlike legend of yunxi.

MacGyver 5x01

After the long wait MacGyver has returned with a kickass premiere. And because the wait was too long, my review will be long too! So you are warned.

The episode was great. Loved the John Wick references, the storyline was solid, pacing was good, action scenes were brilliant and the fight choreographies are getting better and better each season so this episode also did not that dissapoint on that front. And bcoz i missed all the characters so freaking much, having them back felt so good.

Vincent is probably one of my favorite guest stars ever on this show. Loved the humor he brought to the scenes and i think he had great chemistry with both Russ and Mac. I wasn’t even sorry that he double crossed them coz he did it so smoothly! LOL

In another life Mac and Vincent could have been best buddies!

Girls Team & Boys Team

One of the things i loved about this episode was the “tension” between the characters. I was glad to see that the whole Codex mess wasn’t glossed over.

It was nice to see Mac-Russ and Riley-Desi trying to save the day while dealing with their “trust issues”.

I really loved the paralel storytelling between Boys Team and Girls Team.

Last time it was MacRiley vs RussDesi… And now Matty mixes the teams so that they could regain some of the trust that was lost between them. I love you BOSS LADY!

Now this episode might have been “perfect” if it could have handled the Riley-Desi resolution better. I enjoyed how Mac-Russ made things work in the end. Russ already apologized Mac in 4x13 but in this episode we saw that his trust issues and paranoia were still going on. And Mac was having a hard time working with a guy that tried to “kill” him. DUH!

It was so good to see Mac saying everything that is needed to be said and in the end Russ finally realized the wrong in his behaviour and let Mac know that he has his trust from now on.

Riley&Desi

But IMO things didn’t end in a satisfying way for the Girls Team. The writers trying to “soften” Desi’s behaviour in 4x12 by throwing some of the guilt on Riley, left a bad taste in my mouth.

Desi says she could have joined Riley if she would have let her in on her plan.

And this is 100% NOT TRUE.

Lets remember 4x12 very quickly…

Mac’s gone rogue. Russ tells the team Mac is now an enemy of the state. Desi sides with Russ. Matty and Bozer are neutral. Riley tries to reason with everyone on the team.

“Guys, is this really neccessary?”

“Mac does everything for a reason.”

“Mac doesn’t have an evil bone in his body.”

While Riley tries to make Desi & the team change their minds about Mac, what does Desi do?: 

That’s not my interpretation guys, that’s canon. That is what happened in 4x12.

So we all know that Riley letting Desi in on her plan could only end with Desi stopping her. Desi’s mind was set, she didn’t trust Mac and she wanted nothing but to stop him. Let’s not change history!

Besides, why did Desi need Riley’s plan, couldn’t she come up with her own to save Mac if that’s what she really wanted to do?

So as you see, Riley apologizing to Desi was total BS. Desi was the only one who needed to say sorry and unfortunately the best she could do was to say “she regretted her choices”…  I think once again writers missed the opportunity for some character development for Desi. Desi needs to OWN her mistakes alone without other characters’ HELP.

The triangle

Because i’m an obssesed fan who likes to delve more deeply into the characters, i rewatched this episode and here’s the conclusion i’ve come:

Desi is angry and resentful. But not just angry at Riley but herself too. She says she regrets not being there for Mac and Riley. She knows she should have trusted Mac and messed up!

But i also sensed some jealously there. By the end of 4x13 Desi’s anger towards Mac seemed to dissapear. So why was Desi angry at Riley in 5x01?

Because as Mac’s girlfriend she should have been the one by his side when it really mattered.

Because as Mac’s partner, she should have been the one risking it all to protect him.

But it was Riley who did all that.

That’s why she’s projecting all her anger on Riley. Because she is jealous. And i think Riley noticed that too. Our queen is very perceptive especially when it comes to reading people’s emotions.

Throughout the episode she tried to make things work with Desi. But Desi blocked all her attempts. And when Desi opened up, Riley realized that there is a much deeper wound under all that anger. That’s probably why she apologized. It was Riley’s way of making things work. Riley was the bigger person here. She wanted peace, she needed a solution. So she said sorry

Back to Desi’s “jealousy”… When she asked Riley why she followed Mac, she was totally fishing for another answer.

Desi is not stupid she already knows the obvious answer. Riley followed Mac bcoz she trusted him. But that’s not what she was searching for. She asked the question to read Riley’s expressions and body language. And Riley felt that too… But bcoz our queen is a true queen she delivered the best line of the episode:

“Because i trust Mac. Question is why didn’t you?”

This line is heavy people! Riley counterattacks Desi. She is basically saying “Instead of interrogating me about my feelings how about you question yours?”

This episode might have resolved the Codex tension, but the triangle is still a reality. Both girls have feelings for Mac, so there’ll be more tension/awkwardness between them. Better get ready!

Timejump

10 months and a pandemic since Codex, huh?

We all know that the writers added that line and the information about Phoenix being shut down to fit the new episodes to a pandemic world. But for die-hard fans like us, it’s not working. The characters are acting like Codex happened yesterday, Riley recently moved to a new place which she was looking for in 4x11…

So i’m gonna ignore the 10 month time jump coz i know that the additional episodes weren’t designed that way.

1 to 10, how hot was the opening scene? *cough 11 cough*

It was literally and figuratively HOT.

I really wanted and expected Mac’s towel to drop at some point. Obviously dissapointed when it didn’t! LMAO

To end my weekly MacGyver ramblings; i can say that i’m ok with the team resolving the tension. The episodes we are watching now were actually written as a continuation of season 4. Probably back in the day the writers didn’t want to keep the dark-tense episodes going forever so they needed to put an end to that and move to lighter and more fun dynamic.

Summary : You were a member of the pogues and no matter how much the ‘no pogue on pogue macking’ applies you could never stop yourself from falling for JJ. So when John B and Sarah had to escape you had to follow them because you were a professional at driving boats (probably not in storms). How will JJ react without knowing what’s going to happen to you ?

The four of you were on the parting deck waiting for John B as JJ and Pope were getting the boat ready. Neither of them knew what was racing through your mind as you stood beside Kiara. Your palms sweating, you examine your friend’s faces, your family’s. You glance at JJ, you couldn’t help falling in love the the boy you were close with since your childhood.

The two of you had flirted jokingly among the years, but you've always remind yourself that he could never think of you more than a friend. Yet, you couldn’t resist those blue eyes that makes your heart flutter and his charming smile. From his happiest moments to his darkest times he’d break down violently crying on your shoulder every night he comes to you, you’d do your best to comfort him. You knew about his life, he tells you everything and at some point you knew that he needed you and you needed him. God, you knew that even if you poured your heart out to him and if there was any chance of him accepting you were to afraid of breaking the fragile boy's heart more.

But seeing as it is now, would you do it while you still can? Your heart aches at the thought of leaving them, of leaving him.

“He’ll be here” Pope’s voice snapped you back to reality.

You gathered all your courage in your heart and said..

“I-I’m going with them” you said it so quietly that they weren’t sure if they heard you right. You look down at your hands now fiddling the hem of your shirt afraid of their reaction. “come again?” Kie asks.

Slowly you lifted your gaze “I’m going with them..” you said louder “with John B and Sarah” you fix your eyes on JJ’s stunned expression as you say this. ”I’ll have to..right? Agatha’s coming and with John B’s still on the chase. The three of you know that I can help him. Hell, I’m basically a GPS on sea” you force a smile half-joking but they stared at you silently. Kie gives you sad smile.

You know they were worried for you just like they were for John B you didn’t know how long you’ll be apart from them. But you had to do it. Even if it means parting with the boy who owns your heart and is unaware of it.

“He’s capable of it” JJ’s voice was stern as he jumped off the boat walking slowly to you. “I just think it’s be-” he was a feet apart from you now, you could smell his cologne. ”This isn’t some fucking fishing trip Y/N. We can’t risk you giddying up on a boat together and going god knows where” I can’t risk you his heart silently whispered.

No matter how much you wanted to just hug him, you stood your ground straighter than before. “I think trying to save our friends is better than not giving our best” you said softly but firmly lifting your head to look into his eyes, you saw sadness in them that were somehow pleading you to change your mind.

“JJ, she’s right” Kie said looking at Pope then at JJ. Pope nodded his head in agreement and continued his task. “come on guys we better finish this up”

JJ sighed and looked away for a moment as if he was thinking. He looked back into your eyes and hesitantly grabbed your right hand “Y/N, there’s something I-”

His words were interrupted by a loud siren coming from a distance as a blue car came to through the driveway

“Hey, yeah get back on the boat” Pope instructed warrily

“Shit”

You were about to walk to the boat when you saw John B coming out from the car. You hear Kie laugh “uh..”

“No..” a smirk slowly appearing across your face “No f’ing way” Pope said grinning. John B came towards you and the pogues and you hug each other. You lightly punch him on the arm “You had us for a minute there” you were glad he was safe.

JJ cleared his throat “it wasn’t easy bro, I got the phantom for you and she runs like she’s made yesterday” giving the keys to John B. “I’ll take that please” you take the keys from him before he could give it to John B . You hopped on the boat and took the wheels.

John B watches you, confused. “Well, are you coming?” you smile. “Um, yeah yeah” he said rubbing the back his head while looking at his friends.

He knew what you meant and he knew you were stubborn so he had no time to argue and went along with it. “where’s Sarah?” the four of you looked at each other “She’s not with you?” Kie frowns. “No, we got separated at the swamp, she said she’s gonna meet me here” he explained worriedly. “No we haven’t seen her man”

“Okay well we’re not leaving without her” he continued turning to look at you. “John B, look at me I know you feel bad for leaving but there’s no time man..you’ll have Y/N with you” he said sighing at the end then looked at you and gave you a smile that made your heart tremble more than it already did. He gave John B firm instructions. “You got that? Hey-”

“Yeah I think we’ll be fine from here” you assure him.

You and John B got on the boat ready to leave as JJ and Pope started pushing the boat then you felt the boat stop. You let yourself look at JJ, your heart breaking as you hold back your tears.

You could hear the blood thumping in your veins as he walks over to you and pulled you in for a hug. The both of you have hugged before but for some reason you felt this hug was the shortest.

“Will you at least call me to tell me you’re alright?” He asks pulling away. You gave him an assuring smile “Of course, J”

(skip to the hurricane) -Bcoz i can

The rain poured heavily. You could barely see anything as the sound of multiple sirens chasing onto the three of you. The thunder growling above you. You tried not to flinch as you turned the Boat’s engine on full speed.

“They’re coming from around the cut” John B yelled holding tighter on the boat’s railings. Your eyes fluttered shut for a moment “We’ve gotta go South”. Sarah looks at you unbelievably “Into the storm? you steered the wheel “Yes, into the storm”.

The thunder rumbled you knew this wasn’t going to be be good. You cried silently as John B and Sarah hug each other. Regretting not telling JJ how you felt. You remembered how much he made you feel happy, when the two of you would hang out near the beach watching the waves the peacefulness of each other’s company. ‘It’s okay to cry’ that’s what you always tell him and now you’re silently wishing he was saying it to you.

“HOLD ON”

JJ was shaking he could only hear muffled sounds as his mind rapidly thinks, they’d be fine, she’d be fine right? There’s no way the only girl who’s ever accepted him and understood him suddenly dissapears from his life. He couldn’t think straight. If you were beside him he knew you would have squeeze his hand and comfort him. He’d already made up his mind, he would tell you he loves you when you get back, he’d promise to be better than he was. He’d-

A few cops came into the tent slowly like a doctor about to discuss a failed operation. JJ stood up anxiously along with Kiara and Pope.

“Did you find them?” Pope asks

The cop slightly shook his head “No.”

“So they got away” They look at each other. JJ could feel a weight lifting off him. He turned to the cop waiting for the reply.

“We, uhh..lost them”

JJ stood still. He felt his heart throw itself against his ribcage. Suddenly the weight he had before drops onto him a thousand times heavier. He thought no no no.

He couldn’t hear anything else. The thought of living in world without Y/N seems too unbearable.

He heard Kiara’s voice “So they’re dead?” he glance at the cop fire building in his chest.

“We don’t know”

“YOU DROVE THEM STRAIGHT INTO THE STORM MAN” he yelled holding back the lump in his throat. He launched himself to the cop trying to attack violently but was then held back by other cops. He strangled trying to get himself away from the grip in anger. Hot tears running down his face. You broke him then without realising it.

a loud gasp forced the two to pull away from their kiss quickly, both of them quickly moving to look in the direction of where the noise had come from.

kazuichi went red due to embarrassment, noticing the unmistakable blonde hair of miss sonia darting away.

she had poked her head around the door to souda’s room - they never locked it in case leon wanted to come and cuddle - meaning to ask the pinkette if they’d been given any homework as she had been in first aid for most of the day before, unaware of what was happening between the mechanic and their crush.

and now she was running off, trying to give the pair privacy. souda, panicking because their illusion of heterosexuality was likely being broken, ran after her, calling “miss s-sonia! wait!! i-i swear it’s not what it looks like i’m s-sorry miss sonia you’re the only one i love i swear!!” they were crying for real now at the realisation that they had just ruined the one thing that was theirs.

the blonde suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned back to kazuichi. her face had an odd expression that kazuichi couldn’t read.

she put a hand over the mechanic’s mouth. “you do not understand souda, i do not care about you and kuwata’s relationship! in fact, i am glad because now you can leave me and miss fukawa to our relationship in peace - i was and still am rather disgusted at your lack of knowledge on personal boundaries but now i do not have to worry about that because you have no reason to!” she spoke slightly forcefully without meaning to. when she was done, she took her hand away and started walking off again.

“miss sonia!! i-i-i-“ kazuichi couldn’t gather their words, thousands of thoughts racing through their head. “we’re not dating... it was.. it was only a kiss....” they would mumble, more tears streaming down their face with every word. “i-it was all my fault anyways... i-i.. i was.. i was the one who kissed him and it was so so stupid of me because he’s the only person i have left and now he probably hates me for- for-“

their voice cracked and they couldn’t go on speaking, their legs giving way underneath them. “for being such a disgusting fucking faggot!! and-and-and i don’t blame him because i hate myself too!!” they were practically shouting now. “but dammit i love him so fucking much! so much, it hurts! god it feels like my heart is being ripped apart and i can’t fix it and i don’t know what to do and i hate that! and even if i could ever tell him properly i just know he’d hate me because who could ever like such a pathetic little FAG”

they didn’t know why they were telling all of this to miss sonia, maybe it was because they didn’t want her to think leon’s standards were so low as to date them. maybe they just needed to let everything out, needed to rant. because the moment they opened their mouth the words seemed to vomit out.

and once they were done ranting they ran off to the loos so they could actually vomit, as they often did out of distress. they ran to the far away disabled loos, on the opposite end of campus - they were the only public gender neutral loos on campus - so they wouldn’t have to face leon again, who they assumed was still in their room.

key word: assumed.

because leon had actually heard every word, only a few paces behind kazuichi during their confession. he had ran to try and take the mechanic in his arms, to say that it was okay because he loved them that way back. he had ran, just as kazuichi ran off.

meanwhile the princess was just happily beaming to herself, knowing that leon heard every word. she had successfully wingwomanned for the creep and the punk! it was a double win, as leon tended to flirt with touko as well as kazuichi’s horrible attempts to look straight by chasing after miss sonia herself. she made her way to her girlfriend’s dorm to tell her all about what she did.

leon’s thoughts were racing, as he tried to figure out what was even happening. kaz was in love with him... kazzy loved him back... but they thought that kiss was all their fault? as if leon hadn’t chosen to kiss them too? and now they thought he hated them? why? why would he kiss them if he hated them? god kazuichi was a dumb bitch at the best of times...

leon couldn’t help but smile through his tears, which he hadn’t noticed either.

but they thought leon felt the opposite...

right...

well, leon would just have to change that, he decided as he started looking for his best friend. he knew the mechanic got physically unwell when they were unwell, so he’d just have to check all the loos until he found the right one!

except kazuichi was nonbinary and relatively androgynous, so the baseball star had no clue which loos they’d be in, and he couldn’t exactly barge into the women’s loos checking to find his friend.

so, that meant he’d have to find ibuki, who had joined his band, and ask nya to check the girls’ loos while he checked the men’s and disabled loos. nya was also non binary, but at least she passed as a girl enough to enter the women’s loos.

it wasn’t hard, seeing as the noise they made made all over on the other side of the campus-

(conveniently close to one of the only gender neutral loos on campus)

-was loud enough to be heard in another country. leon was regretting leaving his ear plugs in kaz’s dorm, as he plugged his ears with his fingers and ran towards the sound.

“IBUKI!!!!” he yelled once he was in the practice room mioda was in.

“WHAT?!?”

“WHAT???”

“WHAT?!”

this was going to be tedious, leon thought, as he moved towards where everything was plugged in and unplugged the speakers.

ah, silence,,, at least it would’ve been if mioda wasn’t screeching at leon for what he did. “jesus christ calm down ibuki! i need you for something important” leon hissed, ibuki going completely quiet at the word “important” - void loved being helpful!

the bubbly musician sped off to search once leon explained what he needed. knowing nya, she’d probably check all the men’s loos too, void didn’t seem to get what made people so iffy about not sharing a bathroom with different genders.

but with that, leon got to looking too. and it wasn’t long before he heard the sound of sobbing in the disabled loos, accompanied by the sound of vomiting. well, there’s kaz...

he knocked on the door “kazzy?” he tentatively spoke. there was the click of the door being unlocked for leon to enter. he soon dropped to the floor, next to the pinkette, pulling them into his lap and holding them tightly. “shshshhh... i’m here kazzy...” the ginger would whisper sweetly into souda’s ear.

he held the younger student’s hair back as they puked again. “now how about you tell me what’s going on in that mind of yours?” he whispered, despite knowing already. he wanted kazuichi to say it again. to him, not to miss sonia.

but kaz didn’t want to talk. “it’s stupid” they said, snuggling against leon.

“if it’s stupid why don’t you say it?”

“coz you’ll hate me even more than you do for kissing you” their words were hard to understand through their tears.

“what makes you think i hate you? if i hated you, would i be here with you now? c’mon how about you wash your mouth out? all that puking must have left a horrible taste” leon spoke with a gentle tone, which was unlike him but comforting to the sobbing boy in his lap.

once almost all traces of puke had been ridden from the mechanic’s mouth, leon sat them on his lap again, holding them tightly. “how about you tell me what’s wrong now, eh kazzy?” he said sweetly, wiping his best friend’s tear stained cheeks with his sleeve.

“promise you won’t hate me?”

“pinky promise”

the pinkette drew a deep breath, getting ready to speak. then shook their head. “i-i can’t”

a realisation dawned upon leon then. this was his chance to reveal his own secret! “i’ll tell you something about me that i’ve been hiding if that would make you feel any better” a slow nod gave him the ok to speak.

“i’m intersex. when i was born the doctors told my mom and dad and they were.. well, i don’t know how they felt but i was forced into an opporation to make me “fully” male as a baby and all my life i’ve had to take medication to keep my hormones at a “normal male” level, which is odd coz i was never actually told that’s what it was for until recently” the ginger spoke, resting his head on kazuichi’s shoulder

“but, i want to stop taking my meds, i don’t want to be 100% a boy, and that decision kinda scares me in case people won’t accept it. in case you don’t accept it” he added after hesitating. “now do you wanna talk about your problem?” he wanted to change the subject.

kaz had gone quiet. then, after a few seconds they said. “it sounds silly now that you’ve told me how serious yours is... but- but-“ they paused to figure out the words they wanted to say. “i-i- i’m so sorry for kissing you! i had no right to do it and i-i- i didn’t even take the time to ask you if you wanted a kiss and- and- and- i’m so sorry i know you hate me for it and i don’t blame you because i totally deserve it” the words seemed to fall out quicker than kazuichi could think of them

“and i know you probably never want to see me again but if you could ever forgive me i’d really appreciate it because you’re the only friend i’ve got and i love you dude!” as those words came out, the pink haired mechanic started tearing up again. “i-i love you... i love you so much it hurts and i don’t know what i’d ever do without you but i totally understand if you hate me because how could you ever love someone who’s such a disgusting f-“

their words were cut off by leon kissing the shorter mechanic. it was a brief kiss, even shorter than their first, but the pure, raw emotion behind it was clear. love. reciprocated love.

“if i thought you were disgusting, why would i choose to kiss you twice? because now you know it sure as hell weren’t just you who wanted that first kiss” leon said simply, wiping the shorter guy’s tears away. “but i don’t still want to be friends,” he said, suddenly going cold, making the pinkette’s face drop. “i want to be boyfriends!” he said, making kazuichi start laughing with relief.

just as they were about to share another kiss, in barged mioda, yelling about how nya had found the pink haired mechanic, then once void noticed the ginger sat next to them and started yelling about how unfair it was that she had been looking all over for kazuichi for leon when the ginger was probably with them the whole time.

the couple smiled and sheepishly promised to make it up to the ultimate musician. the end.

Hi i love your metas. I am now get worried that Tsurumi is a sociopath but he, Ogata are spies so hard to understand. I always think Ogata has BPD bcoz he is like this person and normal for a man. But author sometime writes him only for making plot twists. Sorry for bad english.

Don’t worry about your English as I’ve said many times English is not my mothertongue either.

Now, in regard to your ask and personality disorders let’s put some order in this as I’ve noticed there’s quite a lot of interest for this topic.

First of all rarely characters from works of fiction have accurate personality disorders. The best they can have is the trope version of that personality disorder, unless they’re stories dealing either with real life people or written by someone competent or that researched a lot into the topic as writing realistically someone with a personality disorder isn’t easy at all.

Also, more often than not they go for the extreme version of the personality disorder as the tame version wouldn’t be worth the effort.

That’s why instead than using my studies in psychology I fish up the trope descriptions for personality disorders and use them. It’s not just simpler but also more fitting considering the subjects at hands.

It’s also worth to note way too many authors aren’t trying to represent a personality disorder... with the result it becomes impossible to fit a character in that personality disorder because any resemblance is coincidental and the character simply isn’t meant to have it.

Long story short, I don’t think Noda had a particular disorder in mind for Ogata otherwise he would give him much more obvious syntoms.

Noda, instead than giving disorders to his characters, seems more focused in giving them traumatic experiences and maladaptative copying mechanisms giving them ambiguous disorders without really having to dig too much into them so as to make them accurate.

The only disorder Noda seems to refer at, albeit vaguely, in his manga, is the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as most of the cast is composed by war veterans who might be esperiencing it one way or another (well, actually in real life not everyone experience it but in fiction it either doesn’t exist or everyone experiences various deegress of it and becomes a Shell-Shocked Veteran).

The good part of having so many cast members who are probably experiencing this is that in order to keep characterizations different, each of them experiences it differently, giving the whole thing a tinge of realism instead than a flat aderence to a trope.

Of course this too can be Noda merely referring to a trauma and to the maladaptative copying mechanisms derived by it, without Noda really planning to dig too deep into the disorder’s condition.

Sugimoto, after all, isn’t really qualified to give a diagnosis for himself and the others and it’s worth to note part of the people he’s thinking at had pre-existing traumas.

Long story short, even if post-traumatic stress disorder seems a safe bet, we can’t really be sure about it.

Anyway, let’s give a look at the two disorders you mentioned.

Antisocial personality disorder (ASPD or APD) and Borderline personality disorder (BPD) don’t quite have a referencing trope as far as I know.

It can be because to people who aren’t really into personality disorders antisocial personality disorder closely resembles sociopathy and psychopathy and borderline personality disorder resembles post-traumatic stress disorder so media didn’t feel like digging into the distinctions.

Or maybe they just aren’t mainstream enough.

This of course lowers the chances Noda thought at them as well.

Anyway, Antisocial personality disorder.

I’ll just pick the main defining traits from tv trope again because they feel what an author would use more than the defining traits from a psychology book... even though since I’ve already said Ogata didn’t fit the sociopath trope, this might feel redundant.

Antisocials will simply take what they need or want, and don't think of anybody as a friend; everybody is a tool.

While Ogata has no friends, not everybody is a tool to him as, as I mentioned discussing the sociopath and the narcissist tropes, he went out of his way to spare Huci, help Nikaido, spare Shinpei and even comforted Koito.

They have a reputation for rationalizing acts most would consider dog kicking, in the process shaming their accuser for standing up for themselves. Contrition and remorse are tools for getting what they want and nothing more; if they think or know that they can win their way back into someone's good graces by appearing to want to atone for their actions, they will, only to revert to their old ways the minute that they have succeeded.

Ogata never tries to atone for his own actions... but I’ve already discussed how he clearly feels guilty for Yuusaku’s death.

They are also notoriously prone to violent and aggressive behavior and will frequently seek revenge after a setback, and their general inability to experience guilt or appreciate consequences means that they are unlikely to view punishment as anything other than an undeserved injustice, something to bullshit their way out of, or as a score to settle.

Ogata, being the trope of the cold sniper isn’t really prone to violent and aggressive behaviour. Sure, he used scissors against Ejiri Matasuke, but that’s probably the only time Ogata did used physical violence against someone without being in need of it (kicking Koito to render him unconscious is tactical, not gratuitous violence).

He didn’t kick Asirpa when she tried to reach for the arrows nor beat Koito after he was immobilized to take revenge for Koito hitting his nose with his head.

In a time period in which people are actually very violent (look at the Nikaido brothers beating Sugimoto up or at Sugimoto threatening Shiraishi or even at him and Kiro beating the guys who were trying to rob them), Ogata is comparatively very calm and cold.

More traditional methods of teaching empathy are generally held to be useless with antisocials, as they typically just learn how to be better manipulators.

Again, I’ve talked already about how Ogata fails as a manipulator.

(They) have no qualms of violating established rules or disproving widely held theories.

This can be perceived as fitting... but it actually fit all the cast. No one is really following the law in the gold hunt, it’s a pre-requisite to take part to the gold hunt itself and again just a trait wouldn’t be enough to.

Long story short, no I don’t think Noda had this in mind when he created Ogata.

Borderline personality disorder now.

I’ll skip all the elements it has in common with post-traumatic stress disorder... as this can be a disorder in Golden Kamuy.

So... defining traits that differentiate it from post-traumatic stress disorder are: frantic fear of abandonment, unstable and intense relationships, impulsiveness and inconsistent image of self.

None of this really fits Ogata.

He is an abandoned child, true, but while he likely would have preferred for Asirpa not to leave him, he didn’t show a ‘frantic fear of being abandoned’ by her.

His relationships aren’t intense or they wouldn’t fit with the trope of cold sniper.

Ogata isn’t consistently impulsive, he’s a risk taker, true, but he usually plans things first when possible and hardly acts on impulse.

Regarding Ogata’s image of self he knows very well how good he is as a sniper... but also how little worth he had in his father’s eyes.

Long story short I don’t think Ogata was meant to have this one disorder either.

Again it’s just me.

If the Golden Kamuy characters were real life people to make a diagnosis about what they might suffer would be a lot more complicate than just checking a checklist. As they’re just characters, we should expect them to have just the defining traits to the disease, the ones that would eventually create a trope.

Still, if you want, you might consider reading @chibivesicle‘s post which actually considered the chance of Ogata having borderline personality disorder per the NIH as @chibivesicle diggest into this not from the trope side but from the psychological side.

Now... can Tsurumi be a sociopath?

Skipping I don’t think Noda had in mind specific diseases for his characters, Tsurumi is much more complicate than Ogata to analyze because we hardly have any introspection for him... and since he’s meant to fit the trope of chessmaster and manipulative bastard we hardly see him in contests in which he can be himself still... let’s try.

Mind you, this time I’m going to report only the main points and not the descriptions.

1) Lack of Empathy and Devoid of Conscience

As I said there are little to no introspection scenes with Tsurumi so we can’t really say if his actions are due to how he feels or due to the image he has to project outside to play out his role of chessmaster and manipulative bastard to judge.

However the fact he tries to send away Fina and Olga...

...and seemed to genuinely suffer for their dead

since he remained with Fina until she died, holding her hand and even told her his true name, showed affection for Olga...

...and even set them down to rest together before leaving...

... make me think in those moments he was showing empathy and coscience otherwise he would have had no reasons to waste his time with them once Kiro and Co were out of sign.

Also although it would have been easy for him to persuade his men to get rid of the lightnight bandit and O-gin, he spared him and even entrusted him to Huci alongw ith some money wrapped in his parents’ clothes so he would even have mementos of them.

2) Consummate Liar and Manipulator.

As said before Tsurumi fits the tropes of chessmaster and manipulative bastard so of course he’s a consummate liar and manipulator, the best in the whole Golden Kamuy were everyone lies and way too many have tried manipulating someone.

The problem comes from the fact this isn’t an enduring maladaptative behaviour which characterize a personality disorder but a set of skills he had to learn to be an effective spy and that now is using to reach his goal. As we’ve no info on Tsurumi PRIOR to him becoming a spy, we can’t know if he’s just someone with enduring maladaptative behaviours which he’s using to do his job or if those are merely acquired skills.

3) Pathological Need for Stimulation.

I wouldn’t say Tsurumi is doing all this for the thrill, even if there are moments in which he seems to relish on the thrill. We also have no info about him viewing his existence as boring or meaningless.

Tsurumi seems to have a clear goal in mind, and all this doesn’t seem just an excuse to have fun.

4) Shallow Affect and Complete Lack of Emotional Reciprocity.

Again he seemed to care for Fina and Olga but, due to the situation, it’s hard to say how much. He might care/might have cared for others, like Tsukishima, but again, his plans get in the way and with the lack of internal dialogue we can’t really tell, just speculate.

5) Grandiose Sense of Self-Worth.

I can’t remember Tsurumi babbling at how clever he is but since he wants to become the new Hokkaido dictator I guess he could have some.

To sum it up.

Info on Tsurumi are vague and, due to the tropes he represents and the lack of inner info or past info about him, we can’t really sort him well.

Tsurumi has very little evidence going again the idea he’s not a sociopath (never mentioning Noda even had fun compating him to hitler or a demon) and actually, considering other factors people could very well buy he’s one.

Is that the case?

Actually I still think we miss pieces of his past that we should know before judging him... and I’m not sure Noda aimed to represent personality disorders and, in this case, the resemblance with one is ‘coincidental’, the result of Tsurumi being an antagonist as well as Noda wanting to use the chessmaster and manipulative bastard tropes, and not to a genuine effort to portray a personality disorder... but again, maybe I only saw the tip of the iceberg.

Still, it's worth to note I think if he wanted us to buy he's a sociopath he would have given us absolutely 0 evidence he could not be one and instead he gave us 2 moments that seem to deny it and much more evidence he's one when there are actually some parts for which we've no evidence.

In short Tsurumi I understand how people can thinks Tsurumi can be a sociopath... but his resemblance to the Sociopath trope can very well be coincidental due to the other tropes he represents and due to us missing some info. It’s hard to say FOR SURE as for now we've nowhere near enough elements to judge... and some elements seem to go against this theory.

Noda seemed to favour being vague so I think we can only wait and see.

Hi! I’m glad you like the birthday fic I wrote for Temari. I gotta say it was one of my favorites to write as well💕 I was supposed to post this weeks ago, but I decided to put it off until now for Shikamaru’s (and Shikadai’s) birthday. I’m sorry for the wait! I hope you like it! :)

“Surprise!” 

Temari uncovered Shikamaru’s eyes and anxiously stepped forward to see how he would react to her present. To her astonishment, he wordlessly ran a hand over the shiny flat surface of his new shogi board. 

“Temari….” he finally said, face blank and void of any expression. “Where did you buy this?” 

A trumphant look crossed her face. “My brothers told me it was being sold in Suna so I had them deliver it here. I knew you were collecting different boards for your collection.” She couldn’t help but peer at him when he didn’t utter a word. “Do you like it?” 

Shikamaru abruptly wrapped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her tight against him—as close as her bulging stomach allowed. Her heart leaped when his lips pulled into a smile. “It’s great, Tem. I couldn’t ask for a better gift.” His eyes visibly shined as he said this. 

The shogi board was stll cloaked in its usual pristine exterior, and Shikamaru reveled in it like how a child would usually react to a brand new toy. Though there were already several similar boards scattered throughout their home, this was the first he received from his wife; which made the present even more special than it already was. 

He was just about to lean in to thank her with a kiss when he felt a slight kick to his abdomen. 

“Mendokusei.” He chuckled before tenderly encasing Temari’s big womb with his hands. “Am I not allowed to kiss her? You’re not even born yet, but you’re already overprotective of your Mama.” 

Temari heartily laughed as she watched her husband pouting to her stomach. “He’s telling you not to be naughty,” she teased and flicked his forehead. “Our unborn child already has more sense than you do.” 

“Mendokusei,” he said again with a shake of his head. “If mother and child are against me, then there’s nothing else I can do.” His eyes flickered over to the unused shogi board. “If I’m not getting a kiss, how about a game of shogi then?” 

She perked up at the challenge. “You’re on. You prepare the board while I finish up with the dirty dishes.“ She turned on her heels to go, but Shikamaru latched a hand on her wrist to stop her. 

“Don’t push yourself so hard.” He gently pushed her in the direction of the sofa. “I’ll do it.” 

Spurred by her unrivaled pride and stubborn independence, Temari placed her hands on her hips and firmly stood her ground. Even with a bulging stomach, she still managed to appear intimidating. “Do not baby me, Nara Shikamaru. I can take care of myself.” 

“I’m not babying you.” He internally sighed at his wife’s sudden mood change, which admittedly had been occuring often since her third trimester begun. “I just don’t want you to work too hard. It’s bad for both you and our baby.” 

She scoffed. “Washing a few dirty dishes isn’t going to stress me out.” 

“You spent long hours cooking tonight’s dinner without a break,” he pointed out. “Rest for a while. Let me take care of everything.” 

Temari opened her mouth to protest, but a wet tingling in her lower body stopped her. She turned wide-eyed at Shikamaru, who looked equally surprised. 

“I think my water just broke,” she stated calmly. 

Without a moment’s hesitation, Shikamaru easily lifted her off the ground and rushed her over to Konoha Hospital.

“Push, Temari! You’re almost there!” Sakura yelled over from the end of the bed, her pink hair barely visible from behind Temari’s leg. 

“I’m…pushing…already…!!!” They heard her exclaim among the incomprehensible noises leaving her mouth. Her body buckled as another wave of excruciating pain swept through her. Temari bit her lower lip as hard as she could to stop herself from screaming her lungs out. 

Shikamaru’s knuckles turned white from her vice-like grip, but he couldn’t find it in him to care. He kept his eyes glued to her face, silently wishing that he was in her place, so he could shoulder all the pain she was feeling. When her screams subsided at last, no baby cries filled the room. 

That not normal, is it? With fear in his heart, Shikamaru whipped his head towards Sakura for confirmation. He nearly collapsed in relief when her smiling eyes met his. 

“It’s a boy!” Sakura gleefully raised the newborn high for the couple to see, before carefully passing him to Temari’s tired, yet eager arms. She tenderly ran her fingers through strands of black hair sticking out from the top of his head—her son had Shikamaru’s hair. 

Shikamaru could only gape wordlessly at the newborn, who barely moved an inch since he was given to Temari. Unlike other babies, his son stayed unusually silent and peered up at them with his mom’s single-lidded almond eyes. The next time he spoke, Shikamaru’s voice was thick with emotion. “Can I hold him?” 

Without a word, Temari sat up and carefully set their baby boy into his arms. He stiffly held on to him, as he felt the weight of the life he was partly responsible for cocooned safely in his arms. 

A profound feeling suddenly washed over him. I am this boy’s father. The baby in my arms is my son. 

Shikamaru felt his eyes warmed as he affectionately gazed down at his beautiful son. “He’s the most perfect gift I can ever ask for,” he croaked out, before a single tear strayed down his cheek.  

Even in the state of near exhaustion, Temari couldn’t resist smirking at the reappearance of the crybaby she knew and grew to love. “Even though he interrupted our kiss a while ago?” She teased. 

Shikamaru raised his eyes to lock hers in a tender gaze. “Even then. Thank you, Tem, for everything.” 

Suddenly overwhelmed by the affection she felt for the man by her side, she cupped his face in her hands and brought her forehead down to his. 

“Happy Birthday, Shika.”

You were sitting at the Y/H table when the mail started arriving. Owls started leaving letters in front of dozens of students. You weren’t expecting anything for you, since your family... well. So you were surprised when a letter was dropped on you. Your friends, knowing about your family issues, looked at it with interest while you opened it.

Y/N, it’s mom and dad’s anniversary this Saturday, as you know. They decided to give a ball at their house. I found a way of attending even with the amount of work I have to do and talked to your headmaster about it. He gave the permission for you to attend the party as well. If you find something to fit on you, please contact me and I will pick you up at King’s Cross, Saturday morning.

You sighed and gave it to your best friend read.

“A ball! It’ll be fun!” she said excitedly.

“Not if my family is there.”

“I think you’ll have fun...” and she stopped talking, looking at something behind you.

“Y/N, can I talk to you?” you heard Draco and turned your face to him. He was holding two papers and seemed a bit shy. You nodded and stood up to follow him to the Entrance Hall.

“Read this,” he handed you one of the papers.

The reason for this letter is because this Saturday is my parents’ anniversary. The invitation for the ball either is in your hands already or is arriving right after my letter. You couldn’t not notice the difference between the two letters. Your brother were much more affectionate with your boyfriend than with you.

“And here’s the invitation,” Draco showed the piece of paper, “It’s the same as yours, probably.”

“I didn’t get one,” you whispered. Draco looked at you for a couple of seconds and sighed. He knew your family. He had spent last Christmas in your house.

“Because they knew you wouldn’t need one,” he tried to make it simpler than it was, “I saw you were reading a letter. From your brother, I presume.”

You nodded.

“Saying basically the same as yours, but a lot colder.”

“I see. I want to be sure you’re okay with me going. I mean, if you would like me to go,” he said, “If you don’t feel comfortable, I can tell your brother I’m sick or something.”

“What? No way. How am I going to survive this ball if you’re not with me?”

He smiled and pulled you for a quick kiss. There were a few students walking by and you blushed.

“It’ll be fun. You’ll see,” he hugged you.

“I think you’re being too optimistic.”

You received the letter from your brother Tuesday. You sent your answer the same day, confirming your and Draco’s presence.

You couldn’t hide your apprehension from Draco. He knew you weren’t thrilled for coming home. Since childhood you heard a few comments from your siblings and cousins about your body. You didn’t like it, but the adults didn’t do anything to stop it, so you learned early that you couldn’t rely on someone to defend you. You had to defend yourself. And you thought the best way to do it was by trying to ignore them.

But even pretending you didn’t care, you cared a lot. You couldn’t understand why your family was always being so mean to you. Why your family couldn’t accept you like you were? What was so wrong about your body? Nothing, you thought. But you couldn’t stop yourself from feeling disappointed every time they said something.

As promised, your brother was standing at the station waiting for you and your date, Saturday morning. You took a deep breath and Draco held your hand.

“Draco! Y/N!” your brother greeted when he saw the two of you, “I’m glad you agreed to come. Mom and dad will be happy to see you two.”

You gave him the best fake smile you could pull and Draco nodded to him. You both knew he was acting nice to you because Draco was there. Draco never heard any of the comments, because your family never said anything in front of him. But you told him. You told him everything.

When you got home, your mother came outside to hug you.

“I’m so happy to see you, sweetie,” she said, “And you too, Draco. Welcome.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Y/L/N.”

“Daniel, take their baggage inside, please. Y/N, Draco, come on, everyone is waiting for you,” your mother pulled you two into the house. You felt chills going down your spine with that information. “Look who just arrived!”

“Y/N! How I missed you!” your oldest sister came to hug you.

“Oh, did you?” you hugged her back emotionless.

“Draco, you look so handsome,” she hugged him, “Y/N is really lucky.”

“I think I’m the lucky one, actually,” he said and you smiled to yourself, “Nice to see you, Violet.”

Your sister gave him a fake smile after that and sat down on the couch.

“Oh, you’re still together!” your brother-in-law said from the couch, “That’s cute.”

“Tom...” you sister poked him slightly with her elbow.

You rolled your eyes and pulled Draco upstairs to your room.

“I hope the dress fits in her. My little girl is getting horrible,” you heard your mother before you closed the door.

“Y/N...” he pulled you for a hug as your eyes started tearing up.

“I’m used to it, but...” you spoke against his chest, “I didn’t want you to hear it. You’ll probably realize they’re right.”

“What?!” he moved away to look at you, “Y/N, you are beautiful! Do you understand me? You are the most beautiful girl I know.”

You pulled him again and hid your face on his chest.

Draco sighed and the room fell in silence. He was having an idea. Would it be crazy? Probably. Would it make you feel better? He didn’t know, but it was worth the try.

“I’m going to get some water,” he told you, “You’re going to be okay?”

“Yes,” you answered, wiping your tears, “Don’t worry.”

He left the room after giving you a kiss on the forehead. I’m definitely crazy, he thought.

Your family was still in the living room, so Draco stayed on the stairs, listening to the conversation, hoping they would bring you up. And they did.

“I really don’t understand how a boy like Draco could be with Y/N,” he heard your sister, “I mean, she’s sweet but... He could have so much better.”

“Your sister would be an amazing girl if she lost a few pounds,” your brother-in-law said.

“I agree. She should stop being such a piggy.”

“Draco has a kind heart, kids,” your mother spoke, “I think he could talk to her and convince her to try that potion I bought.”

“I don’t think she needs any potion,” Draco entered the living room, surprising your family, “I think she’s beautiful just the way she is.”

Nobody said anything as he went on.

“I don’t think I could have ‘so much better’,” he looked at your sister, “She’s already the best.”

“Draco, son, Y/N has a problem-”

“Yeah, she has,” he interrupted your mother, “You guys are her problem. There’s nothing wrong with her. She’s perfect. You are the ones who have something wrong. And I’m the one who really doesn’t understand how a sweet, kind girl like Y/N could come from such a shallow family.”

Everybody looked at him, no one being able to say anything.

“And I’m sorry for insulting you in your own house, but I can’t just see my girlfriend in pain and not do something about it.”

With that being said, he left the room.

While Draco went to get water, you decided to change your clothes. You opened your wardrobe and saw a dress which wasn’t there when you left home for school. It had a note on it, a note from your mother.

For the ball.

You didn’t even bother to try it on. You knew it was two sizes smaller. It was a pretty dress though, but you didn’t feel sad. You had brought one. One you had bought. And that was the one you were going to wear.

You got the clothes you needed and went to your bathroom. You looked at the mirror and started analyzing your figure. What was so wrong about it? Nothing, you tried to convince yourself. It was always like this. At Hogwarts, you didn’t feel like that. But when you were home, you felt horrible. You felt worthless.

“This isn’t healthy,” you told your reflection and turned your face to change your clothes.

When you were just in underwear, you heard the bedroom’s door being opened and closed.

“Draco?”

“Yes?”

It was him.

You quickly put on your clothes and left the bathroom.

His expression was tense. He was sitting on your bed and staring at the floor. You approached him slowly and sat beside him.

“What’s wrong?”

He looked at you hesitating.

“I think I just did something I shouldn’t,” he told you.

“What?”

“I confronted your family.”

“About...”

“About that, yes,” he nodded.

“Draco...” your eyes widened.

“I screwed up.”

“What did you say?”

He told you every single word of what he had said and once again your eyes teared up.

“You really think that about me?” you asked him softly.

“Of course I do.”

“Draco...” you hugged him tight. Really tight.

“You’re not mad at me?” he asked surprised.

“Of course not! How could I be mad at you for standing up for me and telling my family the things I’ve always wanted to tell them?” you laughed, wiping one lonely tear.

He smiled and put a gentle kiss on your lips.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered in your ear.

You shyly smiled to him and leaned on for another kiss, when you heard knocks on the door.

“Who is it?” you asked.

“It’s me. Just to tell you lunch is ready,” your sister said in a reluctant tone.

“Okay!”

“This is not going to be awkward at all,” Draco sighed when he heard your sister leave.

During lunch, your family pretended you two didn’t exist, which wasn’t bad, since they always talked about the food on your plate during meals. When the evening came, you were told to get ready for the ball.

Draco got ready fast, so he went downstairs to help with the tent, while you had a bath.

When you took your dress from your trunk and put it on the bed, you got a bit nervous. The dress was beautiful. It was of a light blue color, ending just a few inches before your knee, sleeveless and it had shiny little dots on the cleavage, which wasn’t too deep. You loved it so much when you saw it on the store, but now you felt a bit insecure with it. Would it look good on you?

You put the dress on and sat down to do your makeup. You couldn’t stop thinking about Draco and if he would like your dress. When you were done with the makeup, you went for you hair. You decided to wear it loose with a gemstones headband. You put on your high heels and that was it. You were ready.

You looked at the mirror and analyzed your outfit. Is it too much?, you wondered. It was perfect. You looked amazing. You looked through the window to see if the tent was ready. Not only it was ready, but there were guests entering it. What time was it? You were late! You took too long to get ready.

You ran downstairs and noticed that the house was empty, so you went straight to the tent.

“Get your wand and say the spell with me,” your brother told Draco and they managed to set the enormous tent up.

“Good job!” your brother patted Draco on the shoulder, “Thanks, mate.”

“No problem,” your boyfriend replied. He was still a little confused about why your brother was talking to him like nothing had happened.

Your brother motioned his wand towards the tent and dozens of tables with chairs appeared inside it.

“Now help me with these decorations,” Daniel said, “Mom asked to put it on the columns.”

The two did the whole work perfectly and the tent looked really nice.

Draco wanted to go back to the house and wait for you so you two could come outside for the ball together. But when he headed to the door, your father appeared and asked him and Daniel to help with the guest tables map.

“I need you to take the guests to their tables,” your father told them, “Tom is coming to do it as well.”

He gave two maps to Daniel and one to Draco.

“I’m going to be inside waiting for your mother,” he told Daniel and left.

“Violet is pregnant,” your brother said suddenly.

“What?” Draco looked at him with a shocked expression. He didn’t expect that at all.

“Violet is pregnant. No one knows besides her, Tom and me. And now you,” he said, “They haven’t told mom and dad yet. Or Y/N.”

“And why are you telling me this?”

“Because you’re right. We are a shallow family. When you said it this morning, I remembered Violet admitting that her biggest worry with this pregnancy is to gain weight and look like Y/N. Do you see how messed up that is? She’s not worried about the baby’s health. She’s worried about her looks! I realized how wrong this is, how wrong I’ve been treating my little sister. I was a jerk. So... thanks, man.”

“Y-You’re welcome.”

The guests started to arrive and Tom came to help Draco and Daniel place them.

Soon enough, the tent was starting to be filled with noises of people talking and laughing and drinking... Draco was trying his best to welcome the guests and look for you at the same time. He was feeling nervous for being around your family without you.

“Thank you, dear,” an old lady said to him as he helped her sit down at her table.

Your parents and your sister were already there and Draco was starting to think you had passed out in the bathroom.

“Over there,” your brother told him, pointing at the tent’s entrance, and then left to help another group of guests.  

When Draco looked at it, he instantly held his breath. There you were. With a shy look on your face, searching for someone. You looked absolutely beautiful. You were stunning. You were truly breath taking.

For a moment, he felt like there was no one there, just the two of you. You were glowing and he felt like his chest was too small for his heart, it felt so tight. And when you finally looked at him, he felt his chest explode. You shyly smiled to him and started to walk towards where he was standing. With every step you took, Draco felt his heart pound harder.

“Hey,” you softly greeted him.

“H-Hi,” he barely whispered. He had forgotten how to act around you, “You look... so...”

“I know...” you said looking down, “It’s a bit much.”

“No!” he technically yelled and a few guests looked at him, “I mean... no. It’s... it’s... perfect. You look perfect. You look... I don’t... You are just so beautiful, Y/N.”

You blushed fiercely with that. Did Draco just nervously stuttered because of you?

“You look good too, Draco,” you said, “Really good.”

He was wearing a black suit, making his eyes seem lighter than they already were.

“I look like shit, Y/N,” he laughed, “You’re the good looking one here.”

You intensively smiled to him. He moved closer and held your hand, taking you to the dance floor, where there were a few couples dancing already, including your parents.

“What are you doing?” you asked him panicking.

“Taking my girlfriend for a dance.”

“But I don’t know how to dance!”

“Neither do I.”

You looked a bit scared, but he was with a big smile on his face.

He held your waist and you put your hands on his shoulders. You two started to move along with the slow music, looking into each other’s eyes.

“You are so beautiful.”

“I’m losing the count on how many times you’ve said that today,” you joked.

“It’s because... you are so beautiful.”

“Thank you,” you smiled and rested your head on his chest. His heart was beating fast and you smiled even more with that, closing your eyes.

“Y/N?”

“Hm?”

“I love you,” he said it for the first time.

You opened your eyes and looked at him. He was serious, with a bit of fear in his eyes.

“I love you too, Draco.”

You kissed him softly and rested your head on his chest again. You didn’t see it, but Draco had a silly smile on his face.

this is a fic that my very dear friend @katherine-ciejek encouraged me to write (*´∀｀*) she had a huge hand in coming up w/ ideas for this so please check out her writing @imagine-some-fluffy-asks and credit her too ;3;

i’ll be posting this story in five installments. it’s reader/ebumi and is v plot heavy~ tw; for body image issues, angst, hurt/comfort & verbal abuse. the first chapter includes all of these things as well as his abuser before the reader appears but dw its a happy ending with lots of fluff  (•́ ω•̀)

“Heh, Masaru, you’re so cute.”

“Nah,” the blond grins slyly, leaning on the door frame with his eyes transfixed on his partner, “you’re the cute one!” “Come on babe, shirt off,” they playfully command. “I’ve been waiting to see my big, strong, rugby-playing boyfriend shirtless all week.” They say it with particular enunciation on those all-defining masculine features, and perhaps there’s a little too much pride in the term ‘rugby-playing boyfriend’ specifically. Ebumi is oblivious to any potential for ulterior motives, or the possibility that he is being used, however. It’s been a long time since the second-year delinquent has felt this much purpose and excitement in life. Being in a relationship has turned lonely nights with rented DVDs and cigarette breaks driven by fits of anxiety into a thing of the past. It is amazing how having one special person can flip everything around. They have become his idol; a thing of worship and Ebumi hasn’t ever considered himself a romantic before, but love has proven itself to be a many-splendored thing indeed. Perhaps this unabashed, unrestrained flood of devotion and dependence on one person is why it is so hard to put himself back together when he feels, for just an awful moment, that every fragment he used to build his world has been smashed, swept up, and put in the bin along with his heart. He quickly brushes aside the comment. He must have heard it wrong, or misinterpreted it. His love would never intentionally hurt him like that, of course they wouldn’t! It’s his fault, obviously. He’s an idiot after all; stupid Ebumi who’s only good for getting into fights and lending out money. Naturally he would take things the wrong way, that’s just his bad habits reappearing. “Oh… wow, I did not expect you to look like that,” they said with deliberate and apparent distaste.  “H— how do you mean?” Ebumi murmurs, his grip tightening on the hem of his shirt after at first being so eagerly removed. “Come here; let me take a closer look at you.”

He obliges. His partner is surely keen to disprove themselves and simply wants to reaffirm how much they adore him, just like they said. They had said that. ’Masaru, you’re so cute.’ He remembers it!

“Are those… oh my g— for real? Do you have stretch marks?! You do! Look!”

“Huh?” Ebumi flinches, looking down at his hips; dimpled where his partner’s fingertips press without care into the plush skin. “Oh gosh,” they chuckle then, “look at this belly as well, that’s not what it’s meant to be like.” “What do you mean? Why isn’t it?” Ebumi wonders, trying so hard not to react to it as if it’s an insult. 

Of course it isn’t, his love would never do anything to intentionally hurt him. It’s his fault: stupid Ebumi… who really feels like crying.

“Well, y'know… good looking rugby players are all fit and toned. No stretch marks or muffin tops,” they snicker. “Like Sekizan! He’s how I imagine a real rugby player to look!”

That cuts through him like a white hot blade angled straight at his heart, and he squirms uncomfortably as he tries to get out of their scrutinising grip.

Their fingers only press deeper into his hips when he retreats though, his partner squinting in a way that can only be described by him as hateful. Like they hate what they see, they hate how he is; they hate him, because he’s not Sekizan. “B— babe,” he tries weakly, his voice breaking as he pushes away their vicious hands. “Mm,” his partner responds thoughtfully as they relinquish their clawed hold and slump over the edge of the bed. “Well, you’re okay, I guess. Not quite there… but you’re alright.” “W— what can I do?” Ebumi pleads, almost immediately accepting this treatment when he comes to the conclusion that if he doesn’t try to appease his love then they will abandon him. “Mmmm,” they ponder in a listless tone. “Maybe just keep your shirt on to be honest. At least I can pretend you’re different under there then.” Ebumi’s heart is fragile, contrary to what others would expect of him, but this is more than enough to wound anyone immeasurably, and possibly even beyond repair. The aching weight in his chest sinks right into the pit of his stomach as a heavy, painful sadness branches out into his extremities. You said you loved me how I am, he wants to reason, but he’s become apathetic all of a sudden, his sense of conviction and self-esteem in complete tethers. “I… I should go home,” he manages to grind out through chattering teeth, tugging his shirt on and hiding his ugly, shameful body that has allegedly repulsed his partner so much. “Might be best, I’m not really in the mood now, y'know?” They say as if that’s perfectly reasonable and that he has utterly disappointed them. “I— I’ll call you,” Ebumi promises, hoping that if he walks away now and tries again tomorrow he’ll be graced with the realisation that this whole thing was nothing more than a nasty dream. “Oh you don’t have to babe, I’ll call you actually!” They lie smoothly, masking their malice with the sweet dressing of a pet-name. Ebumi tries his best to smile after he’s fully dressed himself again and is about to close the door behind him. “B— bye— goodnight,” he stutters, nodding before taking his leave. He’s glad it’s dark so that no one can see the bitter tears streaming down his burning cheeks as he leaves his partner’s house. He’s glad no one is ever home for him, either, when he curls up in bed, ignoring the note and the money from his mother. And he’s glad that no one cares that he’s crying himself to sleep without dinner.

That awful evening rudely persists in the fact that it was, tragically, reality. Ebumi has felt rotten for days; he hasn’t eaten, he hasn’t stopped crying, and he hasn’t been to school once.

He just lays in bed, not daring to walk past a mirror, and staring hopefully at the harsh bright screen of his phone, clinging to the possibility that he’ll get a text from his love that will alleviate his worries and his desperation. For three days though he receives nothing, except from his teammates reminding him of an upcoming match. He ignores them all, even Matsuo. There’s nothing and no one else that he needs as much as his partner. Even just a vacant, ‘hi there,’ would satiate him. But, funnily enough, not long after thinking this, he is blessed with something just like that… from you. He frowns at his phone, having thought he’d temporarily blocked any incoming messages from anyone besides his partner, but there you are on his lock-screen. It’s a picture message, and he deliberates over opening it; his thumb dancing above the home button before, for whatever reason he decides to, he actually clicks it.

'Made me think of you, isn’t it cute??’ Is the caption that accompanies a rather disgruntled looking tawny owl with ruffled feathers and one eye narrowed, squinting at the camera.

Regardless of the state he’s in and the misery he has allowed himself to succumb to, for the first time in three whole days, Ebumi smiles and begins to type back.

'Y bcoz he’s fuck ugly ?’

You get his message, and are quick to return it, knowing what a breakthrough this is given that no one else has heard from him.

'Nooo, he’s beautiful! (´；Д ；｀)’ you insist.

For a split second upon reading this, a flitter of genuine belief and gratefulness blossoms, and Ebumi almost begins to type out a desperate plea to know if you are serious and if you think that of him.

He shakes his head and scowls, berating himself quietly before he settles for, 'where did u c him ?’

'In the park~ they came for a day out with the bird sanctuary LOL’

He’s at a loss for how to reply to that. He has no energy to ask more questions that won’t really lead to much in the way of substantial conversation, but at the same time, he doesn’t want you to stop talking.

His heart jumps a little when he sees that you’re already writing another message though, and he gnaws his thumb in anticipation, a slight curl to the corner of his mouth.

'So hey! the guys said you’ve been off for a while, if you’re ill do you want any shopping bringing over or anything?’

You know full well that he isn't ill. That is just Ebumi’s default cover story for the times he takes off to brood or avoid people while he gets over something, but you humour the facade for his sake, knowing there’s probably a good reason for his distance.

'Nah thnx,’ he types with a smile, 'b back 2morrw ᕙ(•̀∀•́)ᕗ’

'Back to torment us so soon Ebucchi ψ(ಥ◇ಥ)Ψ’

The blond laughs out loud as he reads your final message, and he goes over the conversation several times, renewing his grin every instance he relives the interaction.

Tonight he finds the will to order himself food, and he goes to sleep surprisingly without a single thought of the message he’d been waiting on all this time, but of seeing you in class the next day instead.

MacGyver 4x13

So, lets talk about MacGyver season finale.  Now did i like it? Yes. It was a solid episode with great action. 

Was it the best episode of the season? Unfortunately no.

Its hard not to have big expectations from season finales. Especially when you have a season long arc you want it to end in a satisfactory way. Now i'm one of those who LOVED the Codex arc from the very beginning. But i didn’t really feel satisfied in the end. IMO we needed to spend more time inside the Codex world.  

I wanted to have more of Scarlett. But she had like 2 scenes and she died in one of them. Such a shame.

I'm soo dissapointed that Auntie Gwen died. And she died exactly the way James did. Poor Mac, he just cant have a break, can he? 

The only consolation for me is that Codex isnt done. Bcoz lets face it, you cant take down an organization that's been around for centuries by just stopping one nuke. Leland is still out there and hopefully we'll see him again. I think he was pretty scary and cool btw.  

While the heavily promoted showdown between Mac&Riley vs Russ&Desi was great and very well acted, it didnt live up to the expectations. They built up great tension, they created a believable conflict but then it all got resolved in 5 minutes. Russ was like "sorry for the gun in your face thing" and Mac's like "Whats a gun in the face between friends?". Resolved.

I understand where Russ’s coming from just like i understand were Mac’s coming from. But i guess i wanted to see them working on building the trust, working on the friendship. But maybe we will get that when the show comes back with new episodes. We’ll see...

MacDesi: 

When it comes to MacDesi, nothing really makes sense. I feel like this season the writers forgot their own writing and tried to retcon the story a few times.They did it again in the finale. 

We had a Desi, calling Mac compromised, telling "i knew it" the minute she realized Mac's gone rogue, saying "sometimes you just have to sacrifice the things you love" with a straight face, saying "Mac has to be stopped"... But in  this episode suddenly Desi was talking about how she TRUSTED Mac. 

Its always Mac's fault. Mac has to be the one who always need to apologize and take the blame. Even Russ said sorry, but not Desi. Never her.

And what was their last scene all about?

"I know you better than you think "

Of course she knows him! She knew Mac couldnt be compromised. She knew, that Mac always did everything for a reason. She knew he didnt have an evil bone in his body. 

Oh wait, that was Riley. Sorry.

Knowing someone doesn't mean knowing superficial things about them. It means knowing their heart, knowing their soul. And when you really, truly know someone, you trust them. You believe in them. 

One thing i'm glad about MacDesi scenes was that all the emotion (be it anger or concern) it came from Desi and not Mac really. All scenes were initiated by Desi. And Mac just let her. I dont know how long the writers are intending to keep this relationship going. One more episode, 2 more, 3? 

But i got a feeling that Mac now realizes this relationship can't last. He is truly sorry for hurting her. He cares about her. But they lack fundamental things such as trust, understanding, equality and compatibility.  

MacRiley:

So we didnt get big scenes with MacRiley in this episode. But i loved the ones we got nonetheless. So im gonna talk about each and every one of them!

What i love with MacRiley is that they're always in snyc. Riley says something, Mac comes up with an idea. Mac presents an idea, Riley improves it. They sense danger at the same time and take action like they planned it all along. They're the king and queen of improvising. Best team ever. And we need more of that in season 5!

Onto the scenes:

Loved how Riley sensed that Mac’s focus seemed a bit shaken and brought him back to his senses. "I need you to clear your head" "Yeah you're absolutely right"...  

Loved how Mac repeated that they were a "package deal". I guess he really enjoys it. We feel you Mac. We love it too!

Loved how he didnt want to be seperated with Riley but had to. And i loved how he ran to Riley to see if she's ok after the talk with Leland. 

Loved the scene in car. Mac turned to look at Riley when he said he jammed his phone under the ramp before he fell out of the truck. Riley smiled at him already tracking the signal.... Always in sync!

We got one “Riles” wohoo... Call me crazy but i love how Mac always thanks Riley even when its the smallest things like handing her tablet to him. This time he thanked her twice tho, when he took the tablet and when he returned it. LOOOL 

When the bomb went off and Mac wasn’t out yet, Riley quickly checked Desi. And it kinda broke my heart coz Russ and Desi were there and she felt like she had to hide her feelings. But the minute she saw Mac, she couldn’t stop herself and ran to him. That’s my girl. Loved how Mac rested his back on Riley's leg. Riley probably wanted to hug him but again Desi and Russ were there so all she could do was pat his shoulder.   

Russ giving MacRiley their badges back! LOOOL I bet he cut the badges into tiny pieces himself. And when Riley and Mac realized whats in the envelopes? They had the exact same reaction. Somebody please gif it side by side.

yes, english :3. it's funny my country is literally known for its diversity & endless languages (and it flexes about it too lmao) but in reality does nothing to help in/encourage learning other languages. hindi & eng are the only languages schools teach & 3rd one depends on what state you live in. minority languages are not even in options.
