"Coward", "Cry me a river": Mourinho's "embarrassing" remarks have left many Spurs fans reeling
Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has left the Spurs fanbase fuming following his recent post-game remarks over the lack of striking options at his disposal.
The north Londoners were defeated 2-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon as their hopes of making the top four in the Premier League took a major dent.
Spurs were well beaten despite the narrow scoreline, managing just five shots to the home team’s 17, per the BBC’s match report.
Following the game, Mourinho said: “We have zero strikers on the pitch. Zero strikers on the bench. Zero strikers in the stands & two in hospital” as relayed by Hayters TV via Last Word on Spurs.
🇵🇹 Jose Mourinho bemoans his lack of attacking options following Spurs’ game versus Chelsea:

Here’s what fans have been saying in response…
As predicted has to spout excuses ! Embarrassing
— Tony Baker (@essexLADtb27) February 22, 2020
Mouth filled with excuses 😭😭

Spurs just wait to concede under Jose crouchy spot on saying spurs play like stoke ridiculous managerial appointment Mr excuses.
— james 🌎 (@james08056172) February 22, 2020
This is all true but Jose needs to stop playing the “cry me a river” card in press conferences. He had January to sign players and brought in another winger who can play off a forward.
Tactically he got today woefully wrong as he did for Utd (a) and Chelsea (h)

Having no strikers is no excuse for such a toothless, spineless, gutless, embarrassing performance
— A.Young (@beattie2028) February 22, 2020
There were plenty of superlatives used to describe the comments with “embarrassing” frequently cropping up while “toothless,” “spineless” and “gutless” were other words of choice.

It led to some calling for Troy Parrott to feature for once – he hasn’t even been named in the matchday squad in recent weeks.
Mourinho was labelled a “coward” for not playing him by one supporter and another called him a “tool” for leaving the teenager in the stands.
One promising young striker in the youth you coward https://t.co/vaf4WUfps2

@troyparrott9 was in the stands? but could have been on the pitch or bench. This is making me so so angry.
— David Williams (@DavidWilliamsDK) February 22, 2020
Just start parrot then, in can’t be worse right? It’s better than nothing right?
— Nadia (@AfUrankar) February 22, 2020
Troy Parrott in the stands
— Football Ollie (@FootballOllie) February 22, 2020

— Gareth Pugh (@GarethPugh10) February 22, 2020
No hope Play Parrott.
If it comes off he’s a hero If it doesn’t – nothing lost
Sherwood played Kane – that went Ok

However, not everyone saw the culpability lying solely with the Portuguese boss as ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy also took some of the blame as well as the ENIC Group who own around 85% of Spurs.
So who is to blame for this. Answer is Potch and Levy.

Once again, you’re up Levy. #COYS 😒
— Mike (@msmit423) February 22, 2020

Spurs failed to sign a striker during the January transfer window and one of their Deadline Day targets, Olivier Giroud, even made them pay over the weekend.
But there’s not much Mourinho can do with Heung-min Son and Harry Kane on the treatment table.
From green pitch to silver screen: What productions did these famous footballers star in?
