I hope this isn’t rude or anything but do you plan on writing again? I miss reading all your prompts x
Hi! This didn’t come off as rude dw.
This got long because I can’t shut up sorry.
I’m really not too sure. Definitely not anytime soon. I’ve got some major life stuff going down right now and everything’s lowkey in the shitter, but I’m making money moves and getting myself on track.
I’ve been doing a few like, here and there, but definitely not the way that I used to.
I don’t know if I’ll do prompts the way I used to. I used to hold myself to a minimum of 8 prompts filled a day. I would do that during my “free time” which was after I went to bed, meaning I hardly slept and pushed myself to crank out as much as possible and I’d write anything I got, even if I didn’t really vibe with the idea, I’d push myself until I found a way to make it happen and that wasn’t,,,,,,,,, the tea. If I open prompts back up I’m going to be much more picky about what I write, and not give myself a quota.
I’ve been taking this time to write some long fics and I’ve got three in the works. One of which I was gushing about to some folks the other day, I’m so excited about the concept. And it’s my very first original fic idea so it’s making me feel good things.
I think I did myself dirty by being so active in the beginning. Now that I hardly write I feel like I’m letting everyone down (which is my own shit I gotta deal with dw) and I’ve always felt kinda,,,,,, odd in this fandom,I guess? So now I feel even more odd not just being the Prompt Bitch anymore, you know? And on top of it all I’m in some of the fattest idea block I’ve ever had so,,,,, it’s all cute.
And maybe pushing myself to write ideas I didn’t vibe with made me think more and that’s why I had more creative juices? Or maybe I’m just all dried up. Idk.
But I can’t go back to cranking them out like I used to if I do them again. That’s for sure.
#yikes talks#the way that I couldn’t remember how to add a read more on mobile <3#if you saw that no you didn’t#and you know#sometimes you’re just a one trick pony in a fandom of multi-talented people#and then you stop doing that one trick and it slaps you in the face you don’t have anything else to offer 😙✌️#pls ignore it’s been a really fucking awful week

Crashing Down
(steve harrington x hopper!reader)
Guys, I'm super emotional… this- is the last part to the fic. But more importantly this chapter is what the whole fic was written around. It's insane. Well more so like the very ending of it. But I'm so happy that this happened and I finally wrote my first fic ever. I just can't believe it. Thank you to everyone who read this and continued to support me through this. A special thanks to @harringtown who literally always has my back and was helping me out with this. I think i might write another fic one day but in all honesty who knows. It's freakin hard idk how Brooke spits these suckers out almost every day??? But who knows maybe i'll be more original next time and not have a full fledged slow burn fic.. Anyways love you guys! Xx ps its finally (steve x reader) !!!!
catch up here
Warnings: cursing, death, fluff, angst, super hella sadness, all the good stuff. And season 3 spoilers ig
Part 9/9
Word count: 3.7k (THIS IS INSANE??)
Summary: Sometimes things just don’t go as planned and your world just comes crashing down, but it’s a good thing that you have people in your life to be there to catch you when you fall.
><
You squirmed out of Steve’s arms and ran to your dad, El limping close behind you pulled him into a big hug. Even though the last time you saw him was a few days ago, now was not the time for full fledged reunions you had to figure out what you guys were going to do to beat this thing.
As everyone was explaining their part of what had been going on over the last couple of days, you took your place under Steve’s arm. You watched as Jim gave Eleven the extra care she needed in that moment, making your lips curl up at the corners.
“But instead of, like, screws and metal, the Mind Flayer made its weapon with melted people.” Steve said trying to make sense of everything he was being told
“Yeah, and it was fucking terrifying.” you say remembering what happened at the hospital yesterday.
“Yeah, okay I’m just makin’ sure”
><
Hopping up on the counter next to Steve, you watched everyone scramble around trying to make last minute preparations before, Joyce, Murray and your dad headed down into the Russian bunker. You look at Steve’s face and how messed up it is and then look back at your father, hoping nothing too bad would happen to him down there.
Steve notice how deep in thought you were,
“Don’t hurt yourself, thinking to hard over there Hop.” he said trying to make light of a situation
You laughed slightly, still letting your mind wander in and out of focus.
“You okay?” he asked moving across the counter to be a little closer to you
“Yeah just thinking. A lot of things could go wrong, just nervous I guess.”
He nods his head in agreement, “But this is your dad we're talking about, he’ll be just fine.”
You overhear Dustin telling Hopper that they need a head start and a car to get to the highest point in Hawkins. He turns and waves Steve over, Steve gives you a pat on the knee before jumping off the counter and heading over to him. After telling Steve what he needed to do, he hollered out your name meaning you were needed.
Steve met you in the middle causing you to stop, he pulled you into a hug while telling you that he was in charge of taking Dustin and Erica to some radio tower.
“For the love of God, please be safe. It’s bad enough you’ve already been fucked up by the Russians, I really need you back in one piece.” you say to him pulling him just a little closer
“Oh you don’t have to worry about me, it’s you I'm worried about.”
You took a deep breath in before pulling away. You looked up into Steve’s eyes and placed a hand on his face, stroking his cheek with your thumb before walking over to your dad.
“I was summoned.” you say marching up to and standing next to your dad
“C’mere,” he said, pulling you into his side, “I need you to keep a really close eye on El for me, okay?”
“Of course dad.”
“This thing is after her, so you guys are going to Murray’s house, so you guys can stay safe, protected and off the radar until this is all over.”
“Alright.” is all you can muster out before he pulls you into a lung crushing hug.
><
You climb into the backseat of the Wheeler’s family car before Will and Lucas, leaving El, Mike and Max in the very back of the car. Nancy tries cranking the car but the engine just won’t start. Jonathan gets out to look, and says that there's a part missing, and it doesn’t make any sense. But all thoughts are put aside when you hear the sound of a very loud and familiar engine revving up.
“Get out, get out the car now” you say rather loudly nudging at Lucas’s side.
You all get out of the car and head back into the mall where you would be a little bit safer.
After you get inside Mike instantly pulls out his walkie and starts sending out a code for ‘Scoops Troop’. You're standing next to El with your arm wrapped around her shoulder rubbing up and down her arm in an attempt to keep her calm.
You see Jonathan, Nancy, Will and Max all walk over to the car that El had flipped over onto the Russian’s earlier that evening. You call Mike and follow in pursuit, climbing over the counter and behind the car to try and flip it over. You even let Eleven try to slip it over with her powers but it’s no use, but suddenly a bell goes off in your head. The same bell apparently goes off in Mike’s head because almost as if you were reading each others minds.
“Physics.” you both say in unison.
You flip the car over with the use of leverage and Jonathan begins his search for the ignition cable.
Max was the one to notice El digging through the trash, you were the first to walk over to her and Mike was the one to call out to her. You were asking if she was okay and telling her that she needed to save her energy when none other than the Mind Flayer comes crashing down into the mall.
“Fucking hell..”
You grab hold of Eleven’s hand and pull her away and out of sight.
The four of you are hidden behind some sort of stand in the middle of the mall when Dustin comes over the walkie talkie telling you all to confirm your safety, but the Mind Flayer wasn’t having any of it. It let out one of the loudest screeches you had ever heard, you hadn’t been that close to it before. Tears formed in your eyes from the pain and from fear.
“We’ve gotta move.” you whisper to Mike
“There’s a way to get out, through The Gap.” El whispers back
Mike peeks his head up to see where the Mind Flayer is and is looking,
“Okay, okay. Now.” he said, grabbing El’s hand making a break for it, but of course not without making some fort of ruckus making the Mind Flayer turn and charge. Luckily you push them behind a clothing display just before it makes it to where the items had fallen,
You put your index finger to your lips signaling for them to be extremely quiet before you covered your mouth with your entire hand, attempting to silence your heave breathing. Looking at the three teens you motioned for them to crawl over behind the checkout counter in case it was just playing games, not wanting to risk anything. Though moving to this new spot didn’t help too much because you heard to your left the nasty sound of what you could only imagine was the flesh moving around.
As you turned and looked to your left you could confirm what you had heard, seeing the flesh like claw coming around the corner to snap at you. There was a loud popping noise, that sounded a lot like a balloon that caused a distraction making the claw retreat now redirecting its attention to the new sound.
“Go, go go.” you said to the kids and you got up making a mad dash towards the exit.
You run out the back door and towards the gate that allows delivery trucks in and out trying to catch up with Nancy and the others. But as you make it just outside the gate you see Flayed Billy standing behind his car. You make the kids turn around and go back inside the mall in hopes that Billy didn’t see you, but you wouldn't go unnoticed especially since you had to go back and press the close gate button a second time because it didn’t work the first time.
You run down a few different hallways trying to find another way out, whether that be up or down. So you pulled off into a side room where an elevator was, and mike pressed the button a few times. You really thought you had lost Billy at this point so you were good to take a little breather, until you heard the opening and shutting of a heavy metal door.
Max was the one to round the corner and see who it was,
“Billy. Billy, you don’t have to do this. Billy. Your name is Billy, Billy Hargrove, you live on 4819 Cherry Lane. Billy please, I’m Max, I’m your-” was all you heard before the monster backhanded her out of consciousness. Mike was the first to lunge at him, but instantly got thrown against the wall and was also knocked unconscious. That left you and El, you take your stand in front of your sister and attempt to throw a punch at him, You successfully hit him in the jaw,
“You’re gonna regret that you little bitch” he says as he grabs you by the arm and twists until you’re facing away from him and he slams your head into the wall, everything goes black
><
You wake up, what seems to be like hours later, seeing both Max and Mike still unconscious on the ground. You sit up, head pounding and your wrist and shoulder in excruciating pain. You crawl over to Max and get her to wake up, and when she does, she yells at Mike to get up.
“Are you guys okay?” you ask them. The both shake their heads, but then begin looking around the small room.
“Where’s El?” Mike asks.
The three of you run around in a panicked state of mind calling out for her hoping she had fucked Billy up and ran for help, but the more you looked the less hopeful you felt. You ran back down what you thought were the same hallways from earlier, but with your new concussion you weren’t so sure anymore.
You looked down to the ground and saw drops of blood and some sort of black stuff.
“Guys, look.” you say pointing down the hallway where the trail of blood led.
After some time you finally manage to make your way to the main part of the mall. You pulled yourself to a complete stop, sticking your arm out to stop Mike and Max from continuing on any further. El was on the floor talking to Billy.
You watched with wide eyes as Billy stood up in a protective stance over El. He stood there and stared at his creator, the thing that had destroyed him. Millions of memories flashed before his eyes as the fleshy tentacle that was supposed to kill your sister, shot out towards him. He stuck his arms out to stop it, to sacrifice himself.
You watched in pure shock as tentacles pierced into his sides and back, grabbing hold of him, hoisting him up. It all happened in slow motion, as if the universe was trying to torture you in some way. You watched as that thing took your Billy Hargrove and pierced into his chest.
“Billy!” you and Max screamed one after another
You choked up a sob as you took off running over to him, Max close behind. You slammed your knees into the ground as you grabbed Billy’s shoulders and shook them trying to keep him awake.
“Billy, Billy. Stay with me. Billy?”
His eyes fluttered open for a split second, this was the last time that he’d see your beautiful face.
“Hey, hey, hey, I need you to stay with me. Baby I can’t lose you. Please, baby please.”
He somehow managed to get an ‘I’m sorry’ out but you didn’t care he didn’t need to be apologizing right now, but that was the only thing he said before his whole body went limp. You continued to shake his shoulders, in disbelief that this was happening and that if you kept him awake long enough he would be okay.
“Billy, no please, Billy.” it suddenly feels like you can’t breath but the only thing you can do is yell. You’re choking out sobs as you strain your voice yelling out his name.
Steve makes it down to the second floor as quickly as he can and is behind you in seconds. He puts his hands on your shoulders in an attempt to pull you away and into his arms but you turn and yell at him.
“No! Stop it! Don’t let them touch him! Billy! Billy!” Each phrase is spoken with more sobs. You finally collapse into Steve’s arms, shaking violently with each cry.
All you can seem to say at this point was Billy’s name. Steve leads you to a paramedic and says that he’ll meet you outside, turning around and running back inside. You along with all of the others are checked over and are cleared to go home after sitting in ambulances for a while.
After Steve is checked, he walks over to you, Max and El and takes a seat next to you. The two are in a very tight hug, your sister is doing her best at comforting Max in this time of loss. You sit in silence, not having enough energy or emotion to talk. Steve wraps his arms around you with his blanket and pulls you into a tight embrace. You mellow out your breathing until you realize that you haven’t seen Murray, Joyce or your dad anywhere.
In a panic you release from Steve’s grip and grab your sister’s hand leading her to stand up. The two of you spend a few minutes looking around for them with no luck, suddenly you spot Joyce. No sign of Hopper, you notice that El see’s her too and looks to you confused as to why dad wasn't with her. But then she realizes, you know it too, dad didn’t make it.
Eleven turns into your arms and lets all of her tears out, and just when you think you don’t have any tears left to cry, all of your tears fall on top of her head. She lets out one scream and that’s it, the rest are sobs. You cradle her head, holding onto her and not letting go.
Both Joyce and Steve offer to take both you and El in for the night, seeing as how the cabin had been destroyed earlier that night and Hop wasn’t there to take you in for some extra loving. Of course you spent the next couple of weeks staying the night at the Byers’ house. But after a while it started to get a little too cramped so while El stayed with Joyce while you stayed with Steve. Most days were the same, super hard and emotional. But other days, you would be taking a few steps forward to recovery. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn't ever going to get easier, but you at least had the right people in your life to help you out.
>3 months later<
Over the last three months things have gotten better, you spent lots of time with Max and Eleven. Making sure that they’re both okay and that they know that they are both very loved. Your dad always told Joyce that if anything were to ever happen to him, that if she was up for it, to take care of El. It wasn’t that he didn't trust you to take care of her, he just knew that it would be a lot for you at such a young age.
Joyce took her in with open arms, and even offered a room to you when she mentioned that they would be moving to Maine. You declined, only because Steve couldn't handle all the kids by himself. Steve’s mom even offered to let you stay in their guest room until you and Steve could get your own place, you had only been talking about it since you were 11. The two of you still planned on doing that, but with being unemployed at the moment it was kinda hard to have money to pay rent.
Today was the final day of packing up the Byers house. You had planned on being there but got pulled into a last minute job interview at Family Video with Robin and Steve. But as soon as you were done there, you were heading over to say your goodbyes. It was a hard day and you were trying not to think about it.
Good news: the three of you start work on Monday. Bad news: it was time for the Byers to leave.
As you and Steve pulled up it looked like they had just put the last box in the moving truck. You hopped out of the car and jogged up to the door right as Joyce was coming out with a box for you to take home.
“What’s this?” you ask, taking the box from her
“Just a couple of Hop’s things, I thought you'd might want them.”
You sat the box down on the front porch and pulled her in for a hug, “Thank you, for everything. For the stuff and for basically being my mom and for taking El in. It means a lot to me.” A few tears escaped from your eyes.
As everyone was saying their final goodbyes you pulled El in for one final hug.
“You don’t have to go, you know..” you say in a half joking manner. “you could stay here with me, get our own place or fix up the cabin. He did it before.”
All she does is chuckle lightly and buries her face deeper into your chest.
“I'm really gonna miss you, kid” you say quoting something your dad would say, “but I’ll see you soon. I think we’re all coming up for Thanksgiving next month and then Christmas is right after that.”
“I know” she said quietly, “I love you, Y/N”
“I love you too El.” you pulled away from the hug and locked pinkies with her and kissed your own hands. Giving each other a small smile before moving on to the others.
“You have Steve’s number right?” you asked before pulling her into one last hug. She nodded her head as she pulled you closer for one last squeeze before climbing into the passenger seat of the moving truck. You shut the door behind her patted the door and just like that they were gone. The kids all ride their bikes back to their designated homes and you and Steve climbed back into his car to head home too.
><
As Steve puts his car into park he shifts a little in his seat, you don’t notice because you're looking down at your hands with tears rolling down your cheeks.
“I know today’s kind of a hard day for you, but I have something that might make you feel a little bit better.” he says running a hand through his hair.
He reached behind you into the back seat and pulled out a flat velvet box, you give him a curious look,
“Max and I, we talked about this for a really long time and she really wanted you to have this.” he says handing you the box.
You open it and your eyes fill with more tears as your hands drop to your lap and your head hung forward. Inside the box was Billy’s Virgin Mary necklace. It had been polished and shined and cleaned and it looked better than ever. You set the box to the side and you wrap your arms around Steve and give him a hug. After you pull away you pick up the box again and look down at it.
“I miss him Steve,” you say resting your head on his shoulder.
“I know you do.” he said as he wraps his arm around you
You sit up and look at him and he's looking back at you with nothing but love in his eyes, you think it’s time you told him.
“Steve there’s something I need to tell you.” your heart is beating so hard you’d be surprised if he couldn’t hear it. “These last 3 months have been some of the hardest months of my life, not only because I lost so much but because I’ve realized a lot of things. I learned my self worth, it’s been a while since I’ve truly been happy. And I found that I’m only truly happy when I’m with you. I also know that Billy would’ve wanted me to move on at some point, and as much as he said he hated you Harrington, he wouldn’t want me to be with anyone but you.”
He looked at you like if he blinked everything would fade away and none of this would be real. You reach out and place a hand on his face, looking over where wounds had once been and were now turning into scars.
“ I love you Steve.” You finally say
He doesn’t say anything back he just leans in and presses his soft lips against yours. The kiss held so much love and emotion. It felt just like the movies, like the moment when these things always happened. Time seemed to have slowed down, allowing you take it all in and cherish it.
“I’ll take that as the feeling’s mutual?” You say with a giggle.
Steve brushes his nose against yours before kissing you again, only this time with more force. You took this as his way of saying yes. His mouth hot on yours as his hands grabbed your waist awkwardly from the place he was sitting and pulled you as close as he could. You both only pulled away to catch a breath.
This would be a moment you would remember for the rest of your life. It wasn’t your first kiss, wasn’t even your second, or hundredth, but it was your first kiss as lovers, but it definitely would not be your last. The world would throw crazy things at you, especially when you aren’t ready for it, but you don’t have to deal with it alone anymore.
You just always have to know that sometimes things just don’t go as planned and your world might come crashing down and it’ll fall apart, but always remember that you’ll have people in your life to be there to catch you when you fall.

if you're still doing the dewey song fics, can i request the song Finally // Beautiful Stranger by Halsey? 💕
Okay, but have you seen her performance of this song on SNL? What a bi-con. (I said what I said.)
This is such a perfect song for Dewey! Thanks for requesting it, love! Hope you don’t mind that it’s sort of unedited...heh.
Words: ~1,485 (originally, it was about 885, then i realized i could do better, and, well...)
Your eyes, so crisp, so green.
“Hey!”
“Hey, you’re Dewey, right?”
Before you could decide whether to shake his hand, he stood from the booth and held out his arms. You stepped into his embrace and felt him kiss your cheek, so you returned the gesture. “Yeah, you must be 'New Tinder Match!'”
Sour apple baby, but you taste so sweet.
You laughed breathlessly, and a self-deprecating edge snuck in. You knew leaving your roommate alone with your phone had been a mistake. “Yeah, that’s me.” You reminded him of your name.
Dewey repeated it quietly, his arms lingering around your waist. “Well, be honest. Was it really your roommate I was talking to?”
You got hips like Jagger and two left feet and I wonder if you’d like to meet.
“I assume so – she wouldn’t show me the conversation.” You narrowed your eyes playfully. “Though I did see your profile, and I gotta say, your eyes looked greener in your pictures.”
“Oh, I wondered why you unmatched with me.” His smile gave him away, though you still felt the need to defend yourself.
“No, that was her! I swear, I’d never unmatch with someone I’d never even talked to.”
“Well, now we’ve talked,” he said.
There was a pause. You weren’t sure what he was waiting for – you never did this.
Your voice is like velvet through the telephone.
Dating had never been a priority for you, dating apps had always been out of the question. Your roommate, however, was somehow under the impression that you were secretly desperately lonely.
You can come to mine, but both my roommates are home.
She probably thought she was doing you a favor. The truth was that you’d not felt this awkward since your last date, more than a year earlier.
Think I know a bar where they would leave us alone…
Still, here was this guy who actually seemed to want to talk to you, and frankly, you weren’t sure how to say no. Your roommate had been kind enough to let you see your profile, and it was surprisingly true to who you actually were. So, your roommate got you Dewey’s number.
And I wonder if you’d take it slow.
“So, what did you think of the show?” he asked.
“You were fantastic!” You surprised yourself with your own enthusiasm, but you couldn’t bring yourself to apologize. If he noticed your flinch, it did nothing to dim the new sparkle in his soft eyes.
“Yeah?”
“Definitely.”
“You just seemed a little skeptical when I asked you to come.”
“I mean, yeah, I was a little thrown when you told me you were playing the Roadhouse.” You glanced at your poorly-lit and undeniably dirty surroundings. “But honestly, as soon as you started playing I kinda didn’t mind. You’re super talented.”
You thought you saw a blush rise to Dewey’s cheeks, though it may have been the dim lighting. “Well, thanks,” he laughed. You gave him a smile.
Uh, uh, oh…
Something in the curve of his lips – shadowed by scruff but full enough – caught your attention for a split second longer than they should have.
Uh, uh, oh.
That first night at the Roadhouse kicked off the strangest relationship you had ever been in. It wasn’t that you asked to see each other every time you parted, or that you had standing dates. Honestly, you weren’t sure what you were doing was ‘dating.’ But from that first night, it was a given that you would see each other again. You made each other laugh at museums with your bad impressions of the people in paintings, you held hands while he tried to teach you to ice skate, you kissed each other’s cheeks and stayed close while he walked you home. His roommate, Ned, let Dewey borrow his car for your next…outing.
I grab your hand and then we run to the car.
Of course, the next time you saw each other, there was a freezing February downpour. You left the open mic night at the Roadhouse and immediately felt the rain soak through your shoes. Instead of being horrified, you and Dewey looked at each other and laughed.
Singing in the street and playing air guitar.
You took his hand and ran for it. The music from the speakers inside chased you down the sidewalk – Dewey had parked on the next street. You sang along, Dewey imitated the power chords in midair.
“God, I love this song!” you shouted, the alcohol on your breath clouding the chilly air in front of your mouth.
“Oh my God, I know,” Dewey groaned. “It totally changed the game!”
“Yeah, but you say that about every song you like.”
Dewey, slightly more sober than you were, held up a finger. “Ah, I never said what game. This song totally changed my game.”
“Sure it did.” You skidded to a halt beside Ned’s car. Dewey had to manually unlock it, and he opened the door for you.
I've never recognized a purer face.
Once you had both settled into the car and he had started the engine – and cranked the heat – you glanced over at him. It was dark outside, but the streets were lit by a million New York City streetlamps, and Dewey’s face glowed golden.
You stopped me in my tracks and put me right in my place.
“Dewey…” You weren’t sure how to phrase your question.
“Yeah?” He frowned at your hesitance.
“…what are we?” Dewey tilted his head, looking confused. “Like, to each other. Like, I know we’re kinda together, but, I mean, are we?”
Used to think that loving meant a painful chase.
Slowly, Dewey smiled. “Is that what you want?”
Suddenly, your face felt hot. “Maybe.” You bit your lip and watched as his smile broadened.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
But you're right here now…
“Yeah.” The way he said it was infuriatingly casual, but you weren’t sure why. “Y’know, you coulda just told me that.”
You just shook your head.
And I think you'll stay.
Dewey followed you into your apartment and shed his wet coat. “When did you say your roommates would be home?”
“Two days, they went skiing.”
“You didn’t wanna join them?”
“Well, we had plans…” You trailed off, realizing too late what you were saying. When you glanced back at Dewey, however, he was smiling, seemingly to himself. If only to make yourself more comfortable, you grabbed the remote from the kitchen island and turned on the sound system. It connected to your phone via Bluetooth and within seconds, your music was playing softly from the living room. “Shoes,” you reminded your…partner? Was that what you were now?
He complied. “So, what’s the plan?”
“Oh, um, I guess I don’t really have one.” You chewed the inside of your cheek, and you could practically feel Dewey thinking.
“Well…” Before you knew it, Dewey had stepped over to the opposite side of the island to face you, and was holding out his hand. You had only left a couple lamps on and the glow that shone on him now was similar to the glow he had had in the car. His hair was visibly wet and slightly in his face, and his eyes looked both darker and softer than normal. The slope of Dewey’s shoulders was inviting, and the slight curve of his half smile told you that whatever his plan was, you would go with it.
“Hm?”
“May I have this dance, my totally exclusive partner?”
Your heart momentarily obstructed your airway in a not-totally unpleasant way, and you took his hand. He guided you out of the kitchen and into the living room. Refusing to think too hard about it, you let your hands drift up over those shoulders and meet at the back of his neck. Dewey pulled you close by your waist and swayed with you. Close as you were, however, you knew he could feel the stiffness in your back.
Beautiful stranger, here you are…
“What is it?” Dewey asked softly.
“What is what?” you replied, hoping he would drop it.
In my arms, and I know…
“I don’t know, you’ve just, um…” He sighed quietly. “You’ve been kinda tense since we left the bar.”
“Oh.”
“Are you not ready for me to be here? Because I can go if–”
“What? No,” you said, a little startled. “Dewey, I wouldn’t have asked you to come over if I didn’t want you to.”
That beautiful strangers only come along to do me wrong…
“So, what’s going on?”
Absently, you noticed that you had yet to stop dancing. “I don’t know, I guess I’m just…” Your mouth twisted to the side.
Rather than grow discouraged, Dewey bumped your forehead with his nose and waited. You gave an involuntary shuddering sigh and half-relaxed, then squeezed your eyes shut.
And I hope…
“I’m just waiting for something to go wrong. not that I think you’re…I just…I’ve never had a good relationship.”
You felt Dewey smile against your forehead. “Is that all?”
Without thinking, you released the nervous laugh you didn’t realize you had been holding. “No pressure.”
Beautiful stranger, here you are…
“No, I mean, if that’s all it is, then I can just prove you wrong.”
You pulled back with a disbelieving frown and looked up at him. “I, um…I don’t know what to say,” you told him softly.
In my arms, and I think it’s…
“It might not be easy,” you said.
“That’s okay.”
Finally, finally, finally, finally, finally safe…
In a breath, Dewey had leaned down and kissed you fully on the lips. With a start, you realized he had never actually done that. You held him close with your hands still at the back of his neck. He somehow kept you swaying to the beat of the music.
For me to fall.
When Dewey pulled away, he went back to nuzzling your forehead.
Uh, uh, oh.
If it were possible, he pulled you even closer. You smiled.
Uh, uh, oh.

Chapter Ten Recruited
The sound of thunder startled Sam out of a nightmare. His cheeks were wet and his body bathed in cold sweat. The sheets were twisted around his limbs, probably because he was trashing in his sleep. With his heart pounding in his chest he sits up straight. Almost losing you yesterday didn’t do him any good. And not to forget the way Victor Sullivan judged him for bringing you and Nathan back into this life.
Flashback You were still unconscious when Sully takes care of your pretty nasty headwound. “It took a long time for them to get out of this game,” Victor spoke softly. “Huh?” Sam replied not knowing where he was going with it. “I realize it couldn’t be easy… all those years away. And I’m sorry for what happened to you. But it’s not their fault,” he continued while cleaning the dried blood from your face. Sam was confused, “You see a gun to their head? They chose this, okay. We are meant for this life.” Sullivan scoffed, “You really believe that?. “Why are you here, Victor?” Sam asked. “Because somebody’s gotta keep an eye out for them.”
Everything is blurry when you open your eyes. You questioned how you got in bed, or how you got in these clothes. Your muscles felt weak, just like your energy. Aside from your own breath, there is nothing to be heard and the room is too dark to see much at all. Where is everyone? The last thing you remember is sliding down the slope towards the plane, and the freezing water. Everything after that is gone. Your head throbbed, feeling like you had taken a knife to the skull. Slowly you lift your hands to your forehead and graze the stitches. “That is definitely Sullivan’s handy work,” you mumble. Carefully you sit up, swinging your legs off the bed. Still a bit unsteady you shuffle to the door. You walked down the hall, looking through a couple rooms until you spot Sam’s denim jacket. “That’s his jacket, but where is he?” you whisper walking on to the next door. “Oh, bathroom. Just what I need.”
Without making too much noise you open the door, but the view in front of you made you gasp; Sam was taking a shower, washing the last signs from the nightmare off his body. You could have turned around, but quietly you undress and step in the shower behind Sam. He didn’t hear you over the running water. Gently you wrap your arms around him, leaving a kiss on his back. He opened his eyes and turns around to face you. “Hey, you scared me,” he chuckles, wrapping his arms around you and pressing a kiss on your head. “What happened?” you ask looking into his hazel eyes. “You almost drowned, Y/N/N. One moment you were behind me, and the next you were gone. Nathan had to use CPR on you.” You were shocked - your brain stuttered for a moment, while every part of you goes on pause and the thoughts catch up. Sam noticed and pulled you closer again, so your head could rest on his chest. The water pours down and drips down your side as you relax into his arms. After half an hour you step out of the shower and walk back to your bedroom. A few extra hours of sleep were welcome, because at noon you would take off to your next destination. Sam was exhausted, but with your body next to him it was easier to relax and eventually fall asleep.
The next day The map in Scotland led you to King’s Bay in Madagascar. All the recruits that were looking for Avery’s Paradise centuries ago left with a coin after completing the trial, and Nathan figured out that the coin was holding the next clue. “So… with our luck, what are the odds this volcano is going to erupt on us?” Nate asked. “Zero. It’s extinct. Trust me, that’s the first thing I looked up when you said we were heading for a volcano. Well, that and where to rent the cheapest 4x4,” Sully answered. “Wait, Sully… you’re telling me that you actually did some research?” you asked with a huge smile on your face. “Can’t let you be the know-it-all every time, kid” he replied with a wink.
Nadine’s men were already searching the area inch by inch when you arrived. They had found an old colony outpost, but it was the wrong one. The four of you took out the military types at the old fort and were heading further up the mountain. The view was spectacular, like you were at one of those locations on a postcard, but the way up was muddy and wobbly. Luckily, Nathan convinced Sully to rent a jeep with a winch. Carefully you drove on and arrived at an old ruin with a drawbridge. “Well, it would appear we got here first,” Nate said. “Let’s check the place out and keep moving,” Sam replied. “What do you make of the drawbridge, Nathan?” he asked. “A little out of place. But you don’t put up a drawbridge unless you are trying to hide something.” The stairs to the crank of the drawbridge was busted, so you had to find another way to lower the medieval mechanism. Nate climbed up the tower, and you, Sam and Sully checked out the ruins. “I just keep waiting to wake up and find myself in solitary or something,” Sam spoke softly. “It’s all some kind of dream.” “Sam, I… I’m still struggling too. It’s normal, you know. I wake up in the middle of the night, just to check if you are really here. That it’s not some kind of twisted dream. Fifteen years ago I lost you. I lost everything. And now… there is so much to talk about, but I just don’t know where to start… how to start,” you told him. “My heart is still yours. And that will never change. I love you, Sam. And I hope… I really hope you still feel the same.” Sam stepped closer and cupped your face, “Babe, I’ve been wishing to hold you in my arms all these damned years. Fuck. I wanted to see you, hug you, kiss you, make you smile and make you laugh. Lie on the sofa next to you and fall asleep with you beside me. I love you too. Don’t you ever forget that.” Suddenly you heard Nathan, “Hey guys, there’s a massive tower just past the drawbridge. Biggest one yet.” He was on top of the tower and standing behind a crate. “Sam! Special delivery!” he yelled as he pushed the crate down and got pulled down with it. “Whooaa! Whoa, whoa, whoa!” he screamed before crashing down on the building. “Hey kid, you all right?” Sully asked as you run over to the younger Drake. “I’m fine,” he replied. “Thank god,” you said grabbing his arm. “But uh… maybe you can use this crate to get to the crank,” you continued. He climbed on top of it and jumped towards the higher level. “You three just relax, I got this,” he joked reaching for the wheel. The drawbridge was half way when Sully told Nate to stop immediately, “Stop, stop! Shoreline coming! Guys, hide!” Sam pulled you with him behind the abandoned structure, and Sully ran towards the tower. Quickly you pull out your gun and move closer to the side of the ruin so you had a clear view. “Ah, these clowns are really getting on my nerves,” you whispered. “No shit,” Sam answered almost inaudible. With caution you and Sam creep up to the car and take out a few mercenaries, as Nathan and Sully take down the ones near the tower. “Hey! Let’s go before more Shoreliners show up!” Sullivan shouted running for the car. “All right… now… let’s get that bridge down,” Nathan responded making his way to the crank.
When you arrive at the tower you notice that the entranced is blocked. You had to find another way to get in and claim Avery’s treasure. With the help of some explosives and grenades you get inside a small building in front of the tower. “Time to see what’s inside,” Nate exclaimed. You ran down a spiral staircase and come upon a large hall, just like the one in the Scottish cathedral. Again there is a Saint Dismas statue, but this time its surrounded by multiple sigils. “There’s our boy Avery. Thomas Tew. And that’s, um…” Sam continued, “That’s Adam Baldridge. That’s Joseph Farrell, and that’s Richard Want.” “Hm. Pirate captains,” Nathan replied. “I don’t think your pirate pool theory wasn’t so ridiculous after all,” you observed. “All right, so uh… Let’s see, what do you think the trick is here? You gotta push a button, pull something?” Nate asked. You walk back over to Sullivan to get a better view of the wall and start to chuckle. “You see what I see, Sully?” “Darling, I think we got ourselves a map,” he replied with a smile. “Boys. Whenever you’re done fondling poor Saint Dismas, I think you might want to come take a look at this... The trapezoid is obviously the volcano. The crown, that’s King’s Bay,” he explained. “Victor, you’re a goddamn genius,” Sam responded as you walk back to statue again. “Look, this tower lines up with Avery’s sigil. So, the other sigils must be the towers from Avery’s time. Our treasure must be in one of them, right?” you remark. “Yeah, but which one? I count twelve towers,” Sullivan asked. You didn’t get the time to figure that out as an explosion crumbles down the roof of the hall. “Ah, shit!” Sam calls out. “It’s an ambush!”
After taking down the last of the Shoreline mercenaries you walk back to the statue. Sam was crouching over one of the bodies. “Shit! Look at this,” he uttered holding up a map with markings on it. “They figured out the towers too. Locations, sigils, the works.” “So now what?” Sully asked. “Now we’re screwed. Okay, because there’s four of us. And there’s God knows how many of them? And they have a head start.” Sam said with anger in his voice. “Yeah, but they don’t know which tower to go to yet,” Nate stated walking over to you. “That’s great, Nathan, cause neither do we,” Sam replied. “Yes we do,” you state as you hold up the coin and point towards the sigil with the scale. “Are you sure? Because I mean it could be this one, too” Sam said pointing to the sigil with the trident. “Crap!” Nathan scoffed. “But still… two beats the hell out of twelve,” Sullivan added.

Bad Girls Club (Branjie) Chapter 3 - Joley
a/n: read on ao3 here
“So, you just straight up laid there and listened to her get off while thinking of you? And she still has no idea?” When Yvie said it back to her, Brooke Lynn supposed she could understand why it seemed so strange. It was as embarrassing as she feared it would be, if she were being honest.
“Well, what was I supposed to do?” was her defense. Brooke shoved her hands into the pockets of her shorts and huffed. “Hop in bed with her and see what happens?”
Yvie stared at her incredulously. “Yes, stupid.” With an exaggerated eyeroll, she continued. “You guys probably won’t ever see each other again. There’s literally no downside to fucking her… if you’re not worried about catching feelings, that is.”
Brooke’s cheeks flushed red and her eyes pointedly avoided the other’s face. What she wanted to say would be something along the lines of ‘of course I’m not going to catch feelings,’ but her mouth refused to adhere to that lie, only allowing her to squeak out an “I’m not!” Shit, she couldn’t even convince herself with that one. “Is that what’s going on with you and Scarlet?”
“Scarlet and I have been together for six months. Which you would know if you listened to me when I told you instead of making heart eyes at Vanjie every thirty seconds. Christ, it’s like you think if you stop looking at her, she’s gonna disappear.”
If she had been that obvious, though, why hadn’t Vanessa said anything to her? Was she intentionally playing dumb or had she sincerely missed what was apparently clear as day to Yvie? She must have been exaggerating, that was the only explanation. Sure, Brooke could get lost in Vanessa’s warm eyes and melt at her sweet smile. And yes, maybe her heart skipped a beat every time they touched. And maybe every time she caught sight of her in a state of undress, the overwhelming desire to pin her to the nearest surface crept up on her.
Okay, maybe Yvie was on to something.
“It doesn’t matter, this sort of thing is playing with fire. If things go south, we’re still sharing a room together until the end of the program,” Brooke explained after a moment. She didn’t have time to get caught up in feelings – that was what she always told herself. Even if she admitted her attraction to her roommate, it didn’t mean anything would come of it. Besides, if it wasn’t for what had happened the other night, she wouldn’t even picture herself as Vanessa’s type.
Again, she was getting a dumbfounded look from Yvie. “You really are stupid.”
——
With Brooke Lynn outside with Yvie, Vanessa and A’keria had the room to themselves. They were both sat on Vanessa’s bed while she did her friend’s hair into cornrows. “And like, I know she know, but she too polite to say it, you feel me?”
“In her defense, how the fuck do you bring that up to someone without lookin’ like a full creep?” A’keria scrolled aimlessly through her phone as she sat cross-legged and upright. “Everyone’s just waiting for the pin to drop with y’all.”
Vanessa furrowed her brow as she finished the first tight braid. “What you mean? We’re both hot, yeah. I’d wanna see us fuck too if I wasn’t us,” she mused, shrugging it off.
“What’re you waiting for then? She been lookin’ at you like a cat in heat for days.” She winced as Vanessa yanked at her hair. “Don’t act like I’m wrong – just let her get at your kitty and we can all move on with our lives.” Another sharp pain and yelp. “Ow! I stand by it though. Y’all as bad as Ms. West and Monét.”
This gave her pause. “Wait, how do you know about that?” She did recall Brooke Lynn mentioning their closeness, but she had warmed up to the idea that it had been their secret.
A’keria shrugged. “I’m more astute than you give me credit for.” She didn’t need to see Vanessa’s face to know she had that confused expression loosely resembling a gassy infant. “Anyway, maybe that’s something y’all could bond over – being matchmakers or whatever.”
“Well, shit.” Vanessa exhaled with a dry laugh. “Might be the smartest thing you’ve ever said, Kiki.”
——
While gossip was commonplace within Brooke Lynn’s community, actually weaseling into it to change the next chapter was beyond her realm of understanding. But that’s what Vanessa did best, she supposed – she brought a new prospective with her on even the most mundane of situations.
And it was one of her favorite things about her – she had grown to love hearing her go off on borderline nonsensical tangents because she was so damn passionate and excited about every thought that popped into her head. It was like she was a wind-up doll and Brooke had developed an affinity for turning the crank.
“This is your last chance to bail, blondie,” Vanessa remarked when they were just feet away from the home economics room.
Brooke let out a deep breath and shook her head. “No, no I’m good. Let’s do this.” Cautiously, they walked into the room. She watched from behind the closet while Vanessa made her way to the desk on the far side of the room.
But just as Vanessa placed the sealed envelope on the desk, they heard the distinct sound of high heels clacking down the empty hallway. “Shit, hide!” she whispered in a panic as she watched Brooke duck into the closet. Not knowing what else to do, she dove in after her, leaving her sandwiched between her body and the door.
Vanessa had, in the past, dealt with minor bouts of claustrophobia, but that wasn’t what had her face flushed and heart pounding now. The four-by-four closet would normally be enough to comfortably fit two thin teenagers, but they were competing with boxes upon boxes of supplies and left with no way to avoid touching each other.
It wasn’t easy for her to stand there and keep her legs from shaking. She could feel Brooke’s breath hit the back of her neck. The familiar, sweet citrus scent of her shampoo filled her nose. It was hardly moments until her head was spinning and Brooke had clouded her mind. “Your knee’s in my crotch,” was what she decided to whisper instead of, perhaps, literally anything within the realm of flirtation. Though she did shift and inadvertently rub against her thigh in the process, a soft gasp slipping out and a hand promptly being clamped over her mouth.
“Deal with it or we’re fucked,” Brooke whispered sharply, lips grazing the shell of her ear as she spoke. While picking up on the hints Vanessa had been dropping thus far – aside from the one that she still held as a secret – hadn’t been her forte, ignoring that response was impossible.
She knew she was playing with fire, but the adrenaline pulsing through her combined with their unresolved sexual tension propelled her forward. Her lips traveled up and down Vanessa’s neck, leaving soft, slow kisses in her wake. Her hand grazed her breast – seemingly by accident at first – only to purposefully grope it the second time.
And Vanessa reacted just as she anticipated. She bit down on her lip and started to writhe against Brooke’s thigh. Part of her wanted to remind the other girl what was at stake, but that part was easily quieted by her body begging for more. Every touch and kiss lit another spark of desire inside her and it showed in the way she ground herself into her, craving what little friction she could get.
While Vanessa was successfully distracted, Brooke noticed the sound of the door opening and closing and the same heels walking back down the hall. Her hand started to reach for the handle but stopped short – she had no idea if she would ever be able to work up the courage to do this again, to get that same uninhibited surge of adrenaline that subdued her fear of consequences. So, she pushed her leg up, bare skin pressed against the soft cotton of her shorts.
“Fuck…” Vanessa exhaled in a whisper before biting down on her lip to keep herself quiet. Her body was trembling, and her face was on fire. In any other circumstances she would have been mortified – she was beyond humping a pretty girl’s thigh like a bitch in heat, wasn’t she? But Brooke Lynn was into it – she could tell from how tight the other girl held on to her, the fervor in how she groped her, the heat in the kisses she left along her skin.
Brooke kept her own body pressed up against Vanessa – she wanted to feel every twitch of her body, to know just how desperate she was. It was unclear how much time had passed, but before she knew it, Vanessa was jerking erratically, her back curving up and breath hitching in her throat. Then, everything was still, and they stood in silence for a moment before she reached her arm out from behind her and opened the door. She smoothed out her shorts that still didn’t cover much of her thighs and watched in mild amusement as Vanessa haphazardly tried to get her hair back in its original style.
Forgoing the next part of their matchmaking plans temporarily, the two of them left the room. The walk back to their room was silent and devoid of eye contact. They were both red-faced and disheveled, but actively refusing to acknowledge it. Unlike the previous incident, this couldn’t be ignored forever.
But, in a subtle movement, they finished the walk holding hands – perhaps all hope was not lost.
——
“Wow, is that a French braid?” Monét asked with casual interest as she made her way around the classroom. “That’s a new look for you.”
“Your girlfriend do it for you?” A’keria chided.
Vanessa huffed and elbowed her friend in the side. “How many times I gotta tell you Brooke ain’t my girlfriend? We just friends.” It’s not that she hadn’t considered it over the past few weeks, especially with their supply closet rendezvous, but that was for her to figure out on her own.
Monét scoffed and shook her head. “Oh please. Vanessa, stop pretending Brooke Lynn’s your friend, we all know that she loooove you.” That elicited a few laughs from the rest of the group, as well as Scarlet shaking A’keria while mouthing ‘I told you so’.
Vanessa bristled and rolled her eyes. “Yeah?” Her voice was high and strained. “Where’d you hear that from? Ms. West?”
The teacher was taken aback by her pointed tone. “Girl, you better watch it,” she warned, though she remained lighthearted. With that, she kept moving to the next set of pushed-together desks.
On the other side of the room, Brooke Lynn was trying – and failing – to be subtle with her eavesdropping. “I heard my name, shut up,” she defended as she felt the judgmental gazes of the rest of her group burning a hole through her head.
“You are the textbook example of the ‘useless lesbian’ trope. I just want you to understand that.” Yvie’s remark fell on deaf ears as Brooke continued to unsuccessfully try to pick up on the conversation across the room. So, she just shook her head and continued on with their work.
Once class ended, Vanessa waited by the door for Brooke – the daily habit that didn’t exactly help the ‘not girlfriends’ argument. Still, they made their way to the dining hall for lunch as if everything was normal.
Brooke looked around to find an empty table. “Let’s go eat by the lake.”
“Don’t mind the chance of people talking?”
“You talk more than anyone and I don’t mind you.”
Vanessa giggled and looked down. “A’ight, let’s go.”
By the time they had finished setting up their meals a few feet from the water, it felt like their own little picnic. Well, if picnics consisted of stale pizza, limp carrot sticks, chips, and water. And yet neither of them would have traded any part of that moment for the world.
“We need to talk about what happened.” Brooke Lynn looked out at the lake as she spoke, knowing she would chicken out the second her eyes met Vanessa’s.
Vanessa was looking at the grass anyway, eyes trained on each individual blade in her field of vision. Just because she was right didn’t mean they had to do it, she thought. This wasn’t even like her – normally she was ready to put her heart on the line at the drop of a dime, being the type to wear her heart on her sleeve. She couldn’t explain why Brooke Lynn was so different from every girl she had ever dated or slept with – aside from the obvious social class.
“How d’you even label what happened?” she asked with a weak laugh. “Two horny bitches got hyped on adrenaline and fucked around in a closet?”
The mood lightened, but the girls still kept a cautious distance. “That is what happened, yes…” After what felt like ages, Brooke turned to face her. She gingerly placed her hand on Vanessa’s knee and waited for her to look up. “But where do we go from here? If we keep trying to ignore whatever’s going on here, things are going to get very awkward very fast.”
“What do you wanna do?” Vanessa didn’t want to answer her question first, in fear that she may come on too strong and expedite the awkwardness they were already trying to avoid. Besides, Brooke was articulate and chose her words carefully – it was simply the better choice to pawn it off on her as far as she was concerned.
Brooke shifted closer to her and cupped her face with one hand. “I am very attracted to you, Vanessa. I’m pretty sure everyone on campus has figured that much out. And I think… we did things a little out of order, and we should at least start there.”
“Out of order?”
“I gave you an orgasm in a broom closet and we haven’t even kissed.”
They were both able to laugh at that, and suddenly the air around them felt less heavy – they could both exhale for a moment. “So, you gonna kiss me now?” Vanessa arched her brow and looked at her expectantly.
“Kind of ruining the moment, babe.” Brooke pulled Vanessa onto her lap. “But yes.”
The kiss was nothing like the heated, passionate moment they had shared a couple days before. It was tender, affectionate. Brooke could taste the strawberry flavored lip gloss on her lips, and she could feel how the sun had gently warmed her skin. She lost herself in the picture-perfect moment, and Vanessa was just as swept up in the embrace.
Neither of them wanted it to, but the kiss did come to an end. Vanessa’s fingers were still tangled through Brooke’s hair, and Brooke’s arms were still looped around her waist. A few more kisses followed that – both of them were pretty sure they could have spent the rest of the afternoon kissing and cuddling in utter contentedness.
At the end of the day, the label of their relationship was no clearer than it had been at the start. Feelings were complicated and the quasi-date on the lake only scratched the surface – much to the chagrin of Vanessa. But this was the start of something – a summer fling, a budding adolescent romance – all either of them knew was that whatever they had would be kept under wraps – lest they face a myriad of ‘I told you so’s’ from everyone around them.

Stillwater - Chapter 13
Stillwater [Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.Net, Mibba]
Characters: Original Female Character, Monkey D. Luffy, Rorona Zoro, Vinsmoke Sanji, Nami, Usopp, Tony Tony Chopper, Nefeltari Vivi
***
"We build as only children know to build
We made a way where there's a will
No slowing down or standing still
Innocent and reckless
"How did we get so old and never notice
How did we gain the world and lose the moment
Rise and fall, the tide surrounds us
And drowns us all"
-Hands Like Houses
***
“You’re an idiot,” I said, staring at Zoro incredulously. “Ice swimming. It’s below freezing. Below. And what about Carue? You thought you should just leave the duck to guard the ship?”
“Everything was fine. I wasn’t going far.”
“Not going far? You ended up in Big Horn.”
“It was that stupid avalanche’s fault.”
“No. The avalanche must’ve pushed you to Big Horn, which means were on your way to Gyasta. You got lost.”
“I did not!” Zoro yelled.
“It took an avalanche to get you remotely back on course. You were lost.” I shook my head, getting back to my original point. “Your sense of direction isn’t the problem at the moment. It’s below zero out, and not only didn’t put on a coat, you actively took clothes off.”
“Will you let it go?”
“It was kind of stupid,” Luffy said.
“Says the boy, who’s running around in shorts, sandals a coat with only one arm,” I shot.
“Hey at least I put on a coat.” It was a strangely sound argument from the rubber boy.
“I will give you credit for that, but what about socks, shoes and long pants, huh? Gloves? A scarf?”
“What about them?”
I groaned in frustration. Next time Nami and I went shopping I was going to find a fabric store and buy everything I needed to make these boys snow suits. Then I was going to go to the hardware store and buy everything I needed to make sure that once I stuffed them in there, they couldn’t take them off. I was gonna need some yarn too, and knitting needles. They were gonna need hats and socks and scarves, and holy hell I was turning into Cal.
“All you have is that cloak,” Usopp pointed out.
“And at least two of almost every item of clothing I have on my body. Don’t turn this on me. I don’t have proper snow gear onboard. I was snatched up from Logue Town with no real warning, remember?”
We were outside. The medical ward was crowded with the people of Drum and Vivi, who was checking up on Nami and Sanji. The sun had dipped below the horizon, but the moon reflected off of the snow, lighting up the whole area. Usopp was making a snowman, Luffy was still trying to get the reindeer to join us, and I was nagging Zoro.
“Reindeer! Wherever you are, Reindeer come out!”
I would’ve taken a much quieter approach to getting the little guy to come out, seeing how timid he was, but this was Luffy. He did things his own way, which meant screaming for hours in order to find the reindeer. Because it was Luffy, it worked.
The reindeer appeared at the edge of the forest.
“Reindeer Guy!” Luffy greeted, when at last the small creature showed himself.
‘He’s so damn cute,’ I mentally cooed.
“Hey, you’re gonna come on our ship and be a pirate with us, kay?”
“I can’t.”
“Sure you can, Reindeer. It’s a whole lotta fun.”
“That’s not a very good argument.”
I shushed Usopp. “And you’re not helping. Mr. Shoot-Him.”
“I can’t. I’m not a human. I’m a reindeer. I have antlers and hooves, you see. I even have a blue nose. Okay. Maybe I do want to be a pirate, but I can’t ever be one of you. I’m not human. I’m a monster. I can’t be your friend, and I can’t become a pirate on your ship.”
How many times had he been told that? How many times had he been shunned? I saw my brothers and sisters under go the same thing. Hell, many of them treated me that way, when they first met me. My heart broke for the little guy.
“You see? I’m just here to say thank you. I appreciate you asking me to join your ship. That was really nice, so thank you. I’m going to stay here for now, but if you wanted to, you could stop by here again.”
I chuckled. Not a chance.
“SHUT UP! LET’S GO!”
“Most people don’t make friends by telling them to shut up,” Zoro grumbled.
“Most people aren’t Luffy,” I reminded him.
The little reindeer started crying, before running over to join us.
Nami and Vivi had made their way out, dragging Sanji behind them. “That cannot be good for his back,” I said, approaching them, while Luffy celebrated our newest crewmate.
“He’s fine,” Nami said. “He’s Sanji.”
“He’s human,” I reminder her, kneeling down to check on him.
“Sanji. Sanji.” I waved my hand in front of his face, but didn’t get any reaction. He was really out of it. “Wow.” I sighed, placing one arm under his legs the other carefully under his back and picked him up, walking over to, where Zoro was sitting.
“Wow, can’t even walk on your own. How pathetic.”
Still no reaction.
“He’s not even in it to pick a fight with you.” I looked towards the girls. “What did you do to him?”
“It wasn’t us. It was that crazy doctor lady.”
‘That’ll do it,’ I thought.
“Doctorine!” the reindeer exclaimed. “I have to say goodbye, and I’ll need my bag.”
“Well then what are you waiting for?” Luffy asked. “Go get it.
“We’ll be waiting for you right here,” I assured him.
The reindeer ran into the castle, while the rest of us waited outside.
Usopp continued to work on his snowman. I sat with Zoro, Sanji in my arms. The girls and Luffy stepped back, staring up at the castle. That lasted about all of two seconds, before Luffy got bored and started making a massive snow ball.
“Nami, how are you feeling? Are you completely recovered from your illness already?” Usopp asked.
I peered at the navigator curiously, wondering that myself. Not that she couldn’t feel better so quickly, but Nami had lied about feeling sick to begin with in order to get Vivi to Alabasta. She didn’t look sick. Her skin had regained much of its healthy color back. She wasn’t sweating. I knew her fever was gone, and she didn’t really show any signs of fatigue.
“Sure am. I feel great.” Nami shot Usopp a thumbs up.
“Hey. How about we say goodbye to that old doctor lady and that guy, Dalton, from the village?”
“Don’t be so insensitive. We need to leave Chopper alone with Doctorine for a while. He lived with her for six years. We should let them say good bye in peace.”
I tuned out of that conversation, instead focusing my attention on Usopp and Zoro, who were bickering with each other like idiots. “Still, you two?”
“He started it!”
“No, I did not!”
“I’m ending it,” I said with finality.
Zoro muttered something under his breath. I couldn’t catch what it was though.
I carefully set Sanji down. Vivi, seeming to realize I was up to something, kneeled by him.
“Speak up, Zoro. I can’t hear you,” I said, using my left hand to hold my cloak in place, while sneaking my right one down to the snowbank we were sitting on.
“What makes you think I was talking about you?” he asked. “Kind of self-centered don’t you think?”
“Look at you go. That makes two ribs from the human popsicle. You’re on a bit of a roll.”
“I was training.”
“Well then here. Let me help you!” I said, giving him a snowy face wash.
“Damn it, Mira!”
I cackled with glee, only to get shoved backwards off of the bank into the snow.
Zoro looked down at me, smug.
“Oh it’s on.”
I wrapped my legs around his waist and cranked to the side, knocking Zoro off of the snowbank onto the ground.
“What the hell are you doing?”
I didn’t answer, continuing my momentum, so that Zoro was on his stomach in the snow and I was on his back. I pulled his arm into a chicken wing hold. It wasn’t enough to hurt, but it was enough that he couldn’t use that arm.
“Mira! Damn you!”
“Say, ‘Mira sorry for running my mouth,’ and I’ll let go.”
“No,” Zoro said.
I cranked back a bit more. This time it probably hurt, no severely. I didn’t pull enough to cause any damage. “Say it!”
“What was that about ending it?” Usopp asked.
“You can be next,” I reminded him.
Usopp paled. “Oh now. I’m fine. Give it to him, Mira!”
“Mira, don’t break Zoro,” Luffy whined.
“She’s not gonna break me!” Zoro yelled defiantly.
“You wanna bet?” I asked, pulling back more.
“And here I thought that you were the only sane one,” Nami sighed.
“Oh honey, you thought wrong.”
You couldn’t have as many male brothers, cousins, and nephews as I did and not engage in some rough housing from time to time. It was all in good fun. I wasn’t going to actually hurt Zoro, just as Zoro hadn’t been out to hurt me, when he pushed me off the bank. It was fun, and considering the day that we had been through, the worry, the agitation, I needed fun.
“SAY IT!”
“FINE! I’M SORRY FOR RUNNING MY MOUTH!”
I let go of Zoro’s arm and sat up, still straddling his back. “See you’re not nearly as stupid as Sanji says,” I said, patting his back. I stood up, allowing Zoro roll over onto his back.
“You’re strong,” he said. “A lot stronger than I thought, considering how tiny you are.”
I extended a hand to help him up, which he took. I hoisted him to his feet, purposely pulling to hard, so that he stumbled. “Big things come in small packages.”
“I gotta train even harder.”
I grinned, hearing those mumbled words just fine.
Zoro took his seat on the snowbank once again. I took my spot next to him. Luffy and Usopp had gone to get the rope way ready for us to depart.
Nami explained her general plan for getting Vivi back to Alabasta to us, stopping only, when loud noises coming from the castle distracted her.
“What’s going on? There’s a lot of noise coming from the castle.”
“How inconsiderate, making all that noise, while those two are trying to say goodbye. That’s just down right rude.”
“It would be if it wasn’t them making all the noise,” I said, seeing Chopper with a sleigh attached, running away from Kureha, who was spinning a flail above her head.
“Hey! We got the rope way ready to go,” Usopp called.
“Everybody, hurry and get on the sleigh. We’re going to head down the mountain!” Chopper said.
I just picked up Sanji, cause regardless of how we were leaving, we were leaving. The spiked ball of the flail got everyone else moving. We hopped in the sleigh, holding on for dear life as Chopper booked it down the rope of the rope way. We were moving so fast that it was hard to stay in the sleigh. I had to give the little guy credit. He could run.
“WOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOO!” Luffy screamed, flying behind the sleigh. Usopp had a hold of Luffy, using the seat to keep himself from falling out.
“LUFFY YOU IDIOT KNOCK IT OFF!” Nami yelled.
I held onto the railing with one arm and Sanji with the other.
“You know, you could hold on better, if you let the shitty cook go.”
“Mr. Bushido,” Vivi scolded, even though she was straining to hold on.
“Quit worrying about Sanji and hang to Vivi.”
“You damn marimo, don’t you even think about laying a hand on our precious princess!” Sanji yelled.
“Look who’s finally up. Sleeping beauty back to the land of the living.”
It took Sanji a moment the position we were in, but once we did, he completely and totally freaked. “Oh to be held in the arms of an angel! Mira, my sweet!”
With a hard thud that jolted all of us we landed back on the ground, still moving forward.
“That was fun. Reindeer can we do that again?”
“You idiot, we don’t have time for that.”
“Phew. I thought I was a goner.”
“What’s going on?” Sanji asked, confusion breaking through his love sickness.
“Oh Sanji, you’re awake,” Vivi sighed with relief. “How are you feeling?”
“Luffy, duck!” I yelled, my eyes, barely registering that the yellow and orange thing we sped past.
“What?”
“Carue!” I said, more clearly pointing in the appropriate direction.
“Carue! We forgot Carue!” Vivi looked back, alarmed.
“Grab him!” I yelled.
Luffy shot an arm out behind us, grabbing onto the bird, bringing him to the sled, when his arm snapped back.
“Oh Carue!” Vivi cried, hugging the duck. “I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry. I got so caught up in everything-”
“I’m sure you would’ve realized, when we made it to the Merry,” Sanji said, comforting her. “After all, you wouldn’t get onboard until we found him back in Whisky Peak.”
“What were you doing wandering through the woods,” she asked.
Carue, squawked, shivering and huddling close to Vivi.
The sound of cannons firing, caused us to all look back towards the castle.
“Is she really firing cannon balls?” Zoro growled out.
“No,” I breathed out, amazed by the sight in front of me. “No. Chopper stop! Look!”
The reindeer peered back over his shoulder, coming to a halt.
A massive pink cloud surrounded the top of the mountain, we’d just come down, obscuring the castle. It resembled a tree, the cloud making up the crown and the mountain itself the trunk. The color wasn’t limited to the cloud. The snow that fell was the same shade. It looked like the petals of cherry blossoms. At least the ones in pictures. I had never seen a real-life cherry blossom before.
Kureha hadn’t been firing at us. She’d been giving Chopper one hell of a sendoff. I didn’t know the significance of this specific gesture, the story behind the pink snow, but considering the way that the little reindeer broke down, there was something there, something more than the pain of goodbye.
Our journey back to the ship was much slower now. There was no need to rush. Kureha wasn’t out to kill us. It gave us time to appreciate the beauty of everything.
When we finally made it to the ship, Chopper stopped, taking it in.
“Shishishishi! Welcome to your new home, Chopper.”
“The finest ship on all the seas, the Going Merry! Gifted to us by the kindest most gentle girl in the world, the amazing Kaya!”
“It’s okay Vivi! I’ll help you carry your beloved-“
“No!” I nixed that right in the bud. “Zoro, carry Carue. Sanji, you’re not carrying anything until Chopper gives you the okay.”
“But Mira-“
“And you’re not cooking.”
“Then how am I supposed to keep my lovely beauties-“
“Luffy, can I ban Sanji from the kitchen until he’s better?” I asked. Luffy was already back on the ship, having just hoisted himself up over the railing using his devil fruit. “I’ll cook.”
Luffy nodded.
“What?!”
“Sanji, you have to get better, so then you can make me more meat,” Luffy said seriously.
“Unbelievable,” Sanji muttered, heading for the ladder.
We all loaded up and set sail for Alabasta. The boys started goofing around on deck, having busted out the brew, while I headed into the kitchen to make everyone something to eat. It was a long day, I was hungry, so I knew the others had to be too, especially Luffy.
“Hey Mira,” Nami said from the door way.
“Yeah.”
“Can you make something special for Chopper? I think he’s a little overwhelmed with those idiots out there.”
“Already working on it,” I said. “Can you leave the door open, so that I can still hear everyone else?”
“Sure.”
“Thank you.”
She headed back out.
“Carue, I’m so sorry you had to wander around like that. After you had finally thawed out too. How’d you even end up in the river in the first place?”
Carue squawked out a response.
“That bird. Ten berries says he slipped and fell into the river. He’s a clumsy one,” Zoro jibed.
“He said he was on his way to the ship, because he didn’t know, where you guys were. He knew Zoro wasn’t in trouble any more he just wanted to find you,” Chopper said.
“How’d he get in the river in the first place?” I asked.
“He said Zoro jumped into the river and disappeared. He thought Zoro was in trouble, so he jumped into the river to help and ended up getting frozen in it,” Chopper translated.
“So this is all your fault!” Nami’s words were marked with the familiar sound of fist hitting skull.
“Cause you got lost,” I added, poking my head out to give him a very pointed look.
“Are you really able to understand everything that Carue’s saying?” Nami asked.
“Yes. I’m technically half animal by nature, so I can understand what they say.”
“You can talk to animals?”
“Oh wow Chopper! Between your medical skills and talking to animals, you have some amazing talents,” Nami praised him.
“Don’t be silly like that, you jerk! Flattering me like that isn’t going to make me happy or anything!”
“He sure looks happy.”
“What did you mean about Chopper’s medical skills?” Zoro asked.
“Well Chopper here is a doctor and a first rate one at that. Dr. Kureha taught him everything there is to know about medicine.”
The boys were all shocked. I walked over to the door way and laughed at their reactions.
“What? Impossible. Chopper are you seriously a doctor?”
“How cool!”
“No way!”
“Really Luffy if you didn’t know he was a doctor, what did you think he was, when you asked him to join us?” Nami asked.
“Magical talking transforming reindeer monster.”
“That’ll do it.”
“Back up food,” Sanji answered, scaring Chopper.
I glanced at the spoon in my hand. I thought about throwing it at Sanji, but ultimately decided that my glare was enough for now.
“Wait! Oh no! I was in such a big hurry, I left my medical bag behind that had all my tools in it!”
“But isn’t this it?” Nami held up a small blue backpack with a white x on it.
“It is my bag. How is that?”
“What do you mean?”
I headed back in, finishing up our meal, heading back out on the deck with the platter full of sandwiches.
Sanji’s smelled it, before he even saw it. “Ham, cheese, bread, egg, powdered sugar, preserves. The egg serves as a dip, instead of being fried. It’s not a croque-monsieur, but close. Monte Cristo?” he asked.
“You’re good. Comfort food,” I said, my hand catching Luffy’s face, before he could attack the platter. Stretched out his mouth, wrapping my hand around it, so that I could get a good grip on it, so that he couldn’t open it. That way even if he grabbed at the food, he couldn’t immediately go and start jamming it down his gullet.
“Chopper, Straw Hat survival tip number one. Always defend your food. If you take your eyes off of it for a second, Luffy will eat it.”
Chopper’s eyes widened.
“But if he does, I’m always willing to sneak you something else later.”
“What?” Zoro and Usopp yelled. I rolled my eyes.
“My darling, Mira, such a sweetheart.”
“Why does he get more food and we don’t?” Zoro asked.
“Yeah!”
“He’s adorable. He gets special privileges.”
“Ridiculous.”
Alright everyone dig in!”
Immediately, everything went to hell in a hand basket, but that was typical for us. It was the usual. Everyone was fending Luffy off. Zoro and Sanji started fighting about something stupid, which Luffy encouraged, mouth full of sandwiches. Carue scarfed his down so quickly that he started choking, causing Vivi to become even more frazzled. There was going to be a massive mess for me to clean up, but it was worth it.
Chopper sat off to the side with Nami eating his sandwiches. I snuck into the kitchen, grabbing my special dessert for Chopper and plopping down on the other side of him.
“Here,” I said, handing him the small dish. “It’s cookie dough dip that I made with homemade graham crackers that Sanji made. Just for you.”
“Really?”
I nodded. “Yep. All for you.”
He dug in. “This is so good! Thank you…”
“I never introduced myself. I’m so sorry. “I’m Zale Mira Kai, but just call me Mira.”
“She’s the ship stewardess,” Nami explained.
“Luffy’s our captain, as you already know, and Zoro’s first mate.”
“Not that he acts like one.”
I snorted, nodding. “Usopp is our sniper.”
“Sanji’s our cook.”
“He blows my food out of the water by the way.”
“I’m the navigator.”
“And Vivi and Carue are from Alabasta, which is where we’re heading.”
Chopper looked at everyone. Luffy was still cheering, switching from Zoro to Sanji and back again. Usopp was screaming, trying to be heard.
“Hey. You know they’re crazy, but I’ve never had this much fun ever!”
“Good,” Nami and I echoed each other, smiling at the young reindeer.
“I propose a toast to our new friend Chopper!” Usopp finally managed to yell out over the chaos. The boys stopped fighting long enough to grab their mugs and raise them in the air.

Last Week’s Workouts
Last week’s workouts saw one negative and one positive.
The negative?
My plantar fascia flared up again after my run on Thursday. I was hobbling around for most of the day afterwards.
The positive?
I gave my heel extra attention, took two days off in a row from running, and I was able to crank out 13.1 miles on Sunday with hardly any heel discomfort. And then I jumped into a Parents vs. Kids soccer immediately afterward. I think that’s a win!
Monday
Strength training:
TRX mountain climbers
Half-kneeling cable lift
Single leg deadlift w/ shoulder press
Single leg squats
Bench press
Decline push up
Side lunge with touch
Standing single arm low cable row
40 minutes Elliptical w/ 8 x 60 sec bursts, 60 sec recovery
Tuesday
7 mile trail run, 12:09 avg pace, 236 ft elev gain
Over the weekend, a friend had mentioned the Sweet Trail and I instantly knew I needed to plan a run there this week. I purposely kept things super slow out of fear of falling and/or rolling an ankle on the rocks. There were so many leaves down that things were slippery too. I wasn’t able to do the whole duration of the out and back trail because of time constraints but I had a great time enjoying the cool, fall weather.
Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi
Wednesday
Strength Training:
DB bench press
DB pull overs
Barbell bench squats
Single leg deadlift to bench step ups
Cable bent over row
TRX fallout
Split stance cable chop
40 minutes Arc Trainer w/ 60 second bursts, 90 second recovery
Thursday
6.2 miles run, 8:47 avg pace, 299 ft elev gain
This run was a struggle from the beginning. My legs were ridiculously sore from the previous days strength session. Kyle and I had planned to do a “comfortably hard” paced workout. Well, comfortably hard was a lot slower than we had hoped. We’ll just consider it a nice effort and call it good.
Morning Flow Yoga @ Bending Bodhi
Gotta love the elbow sweat spots too!
Friday
60 minute Hip Hop Yoga Flow
I originally had planned on Friday being a gym day but my body wanted to sleep in a little. That extra hour was needed! Especially since I was going to a Hip Hop Yoga class later that night. You guys. This was SO much fun once again. The music was amazing (90s hip hop and some new) thanks to a live DJ. Our teacher is also an MC and treated us to a free-style rap near the end of class. So cool!
And when your friend suggests dressing up for the class in the spirit of Halloween, you pull together your best 90’s hip hop outfit you can. I really wish I would have kept my oversized overalls from ’96! Lol!
Rumor has it that the next class will be under black lights with neon body paint. Woohoo!
Saturday
Rest Day…especially after going out for drinks after Hip Hop Yoga.
Sunday
13.15 mile run, 9:13 avg/pace, 679 ft elev gain
After Saturday’s Nor’easter, I was really hoping that the wind and rain would be done on Sunday. The weather on my phone says it was. When I stepped outside, I realized it had not. Thankfully, it was much less so than Saturday with only a little mist. I met up with Kyle and Kailey for an easy pace run on the hilliest route in town. It was Kyle’s first time running 12 miles! And it was our last long run before the Seacoast Half in 2 weeks. I can’t wait for her to cross her first 13.1 off her bucket list!
Feeling like antiques after stopping for a pic in the cold rain. Things stiffen up way too much once you stop!
Immediately after running, I ate, showered and changed before heading to the soccer fields for a end of season Parents vs. Kids soccer game. I happily played Defender (less running) but somehow ended up Striker at some point. My legs felt fine during the game. It was afterwards that all I wanted to do was do Legs Up the Wall for the rest of the day.
How was your week in workouts?
Linking up with Hoho and Wendy for the weekly workout wrap up.

AMA Transcript: Awoken
This past week, @professor-maka and @sahdah stopped in to chat about their work on their 2016 Resbang, Awoken! Here’s some of what went down:
Q: How did your fic change/evolve over time? Any deleted scenes/headcanons you couldn't fit into the fic?
ProMa: Sort of? In that I wasn't exactly sure how far I wanted to take the plot at first, and at one point considered a Medusa appearance but decided I liked flipping the villain expectation too much to fuss with it.
Q: How the frick did you write the songs and stuff?? It was so good and hilarious.
ProMa: Ahhhh I can't music which is why the songs are either poems (only the first, and it's intentionally bad) or I took actual songs and just--modified lyrics in the same meter.
Q: You wrote your own lyrics tho?
ProMa: I did. I carefully plotted to the meter of the original. Or in the case of Ox's first song, just kept a really trite meter.
Q: Gotta ask the obvious question: What made you want to do an Enchanted AU!!
ProMa: It's a really fun movie, and I just felt I could do something fun with it. Though I'll admit there's a heavy Enchanted Forest Chronicles in there, too.
Q: What was the hardest scene to write?
ProMa: Hardest to write was hmmmm... Maka waking up the second time. I got stuck in that section forever.
Q: And which scene did you write first?? Loved the song summons btw. It made me laugh so hard.
ProMa: I wrote it pretty much in order except in a few places where I wrote the song before the scene, so the taxi scene came first. The song summons was so fun to write. I wanted to take that scene from Enchanted and completely flip it on its head.
Q: Proma, I love the running gag with the disembodied music, was that from the AU's or your own detail?
ProMa: Disembodied music was just drawing from the brand of humor in Enchanted Forest Chronicles, Patrick Dempsey's reactions in Enchanted, and the reality of musicals. So basically my take on it, lol.
Q: How early in the process did you figure out that Ox was gonna be the prince? Were you always sure it would be him or did you have to narrow it down?
ProMa: Ox was my prince pretty much from the get go. He just fit what I wanted to do. I was going for the more noble version of Hans from Frozen.
Q: Was there anything weird that you didn't expect to make it into the final cut?
ProMa: The potty humor I definitely wasn't sure I would keep. But I am 14 at heart and kept it.
Q: Alternately, anything you wanted to keep but had to cut?
ProMa: I kind of wanted a Black Star appearance but time and plot arc did not allow. Also Wes was not in the original plan but he happened anyway.
Q: Tell us about the art collab! How did it work for you?
ProMa: They were really enthusiastic and supportive and started throwing ideas out from the get go!
sahdah: Read voraciously, threw my ideas at Proma.
ProMa: The poster image sahdah did was so great she worked on it forever! sahdah: Proma was super chill and awesome about things, I'd ask for direction and she gave like dress ideas. It was so much fun!
ProMa: And rogha's painting was lovely.
Q: What was the hardest thing about that poster image?
sahdah: Ahhh the coloring. I did pen drawing and scanned but I'd just gotten a tablet for digital so working the layers was interesting. I had lots of support from Proma and Aer!
Q: How many drafts did you do before you decided on a final image for the art?
sahdah: Um, it started off with just Maka, and then Ox got added. And then I think Kim was next - this is all on the same page - and I knew Soul in a beanie had to be there. So it just grew.
ProMa: It grew in the most glorious way possible. Sahdah kept sending me updates and I just [said] YES YES GOOD YES.
Q: I am jealous of how well-behaved this fic was for not having any deleted scenes.
ProMa: AHAHA I'm a weird writer. I delete sometimes, but not often.
Q: SEQUEL?
ProMa: Noooooooo no no no no no. Epilogue is my limit.
Q: What was your favorite scene to write?
ProMa: Either the vermin scene or Maka laying the smackdown on Ox. Both were fun. Maka as badass is always my jam.
Q: Is this a genre you'd want to do again?
ProMa: It was fun, I'd definitely do it again!
Q: Please tell me what inspired the "friendly neighbourhood broctologist" line because I literally laughed at it for 30 straight seconds.
ProMa: B* works in mysterious ways. He always gets my best lines. What inspired it? B* being B*.
[discussion of the rats/roaches scene]
ProMa: That scene is one of the more direct lifts from the film. It's really nasty. Vermin squick me so hard, but vermin summoning is one of the most hilarious things in the film. I HAD to.
sahdah: Giriko running in fear when he next sees them, lol.
ProMa: Poor Giriko, he only wanted some loot.
[discussion of how numerous people have not seen Enchanted]
ProMa: It's cute and funny and I did something completely different with the premise because Maka is no Gisselle.
Q: Real question time: Why George Michael?
ProMa: Omg. It was my server name because it was a play on the kiss thing and then I just--had to. Because Wham is awesome and cheesy and it fit.
Q: I'm kinda mad with how it was not awkward or cheesy. How do you put Wham in a story and make it charming?
sahdah: Promagic.
ProMa: I have no idea. I love Wham, they were my first album. Call it a labor of pure love.
Q: Did you listen/watch anything (besides the obvious) for inspiration?
ProMa: I had a playlist I've been meaning to post: http://8tracks.com/professor-maka/awoken. I'll have to make it not unlisted later lol.
Q: Is it possible for Mr. Proma to do a cover the fic songs?
ProMa: It'd be hilarious but he'd side eye me hard. Very not his genre. Well, maybe the Foo Fighters. :') I would laugh so hard to hear them performed though. Maybe someday someone will perform one and make my life.
sahdah: Soul singing Pearl Jam in the shower <3
ProMa: Mr.Proma sent me that song when we were dating, it was a nod to self.
sahdah: Awwwh, such a good husbando!
ProMa: Such good husbando. Well, boyfriendu then.
Q: If you had to do it over, would there be anything you'd change?
ProMa: Hmmmmm man I just reread it. I wish I'd edited another round, because I missed some dumb reppy shit and just dumb shit. Also, the ending could be drawn out a bit. So I would do that if I had it to do again. But I was in serious time crunch mode.
Q: I am so impressed with how much fic you can crank out, Proma.
sahdah: Proma cranked out the last bit of the fic in... what was it, like 2 days?
ProMa: Yeah, the last third was very fast.
sahdah: I'm like WAIT!!! SO MUCH I NEED TO ART.
ProMa: Sahdah did her second two pieces in like two days so MASS APPLAUSE.
sahdah: /head scratch like there was so much good content!
ProMa: And those pieces are great too.
Q: How does one do that, pull out quality in such a short time?
sahdah: Copious amounts of caffeine and manic cackling with Resbang partners. <3
ProMa: I write fast under pressure. It's a skill I picked up in school that weirdly translates into creative things. Thank you, undergrad all nighters.
Q: Proma, [in the] epilogue, how does Ox fare with Kim?
ProMa: Omg Ox does not fare with Kim. She is all about dat Jackie. But I mean, he has his kingdom. Even if Spirit gives him constant shit for the rest of his days.
Q: How does Spirit react to maka moving?
ProMa: Spirit is so dejected. I haven't worked it out, but he would definitely seek Maka out. Might even just hand the kingdom to Ox eventually, and go [to the] whole other world. He will visit, that's not even arguable. That omake I will heavily consider.
Q: Proma, one thing that I was interested to see and that I think I'm glad about is that you didn't do the whole Aesop where Maka has to go back and learn how to break the curse, find happiness in her own world. While I can appreciate that message and I think it has its place, I also think that if people could really do that... there are probably people who would find a place and feel better somewhere other than their "home world." I mean, you could translate the "world" metaphor to people choosing to leave a toxic family of origin, which would be a good thing.
ProMa: Oh yeah, I was never going to go there. This was about Maka shaping her own life on her terms. I was not going for archetypes at alllll. Blair was always my choice for the fairy godmother role. It's so canon anyway. You can do some good things with that trope, it just wasn't the goal. Maka staying in her new life definitely came from the source -- even if a lot of the source is altered beyond recognition.
sahdah: I also love Maka working to improve herself on her terms. Like the details with the soufflé.
ProMa: I definitely borrowed some flavor from Wrede.
[more discussion of the vermin scene]
ProMa: That's one of the biggest actual pulls from the movie though -- I flipped it completely. Giselle summons vermin to clean the messy house. Yeah, that is not Maka. Maka just wants her crap back and she's not into the singing thing.
sahdah: Giriko! The real vermin, lol.
Q: Maka asking animals via Disney princess song to wreck Giriko's shit was one of my favorite things.
ProMa: It's Maka, she's not gonna sing to clean Soul's house, he can get off his own ass!
sahdah: Let's be real, he probably has a cleaning service, because of Mother.
ProMa: His house is spotless, there are maids. (Why a high powered lawyer in Enchanted couldn't hire a maid is beyond me.)
sahdah: Mc-Procrastinator, not Dreamy.
ProMa: Mc-raises kid in nasty house. I actually have a soft spot for pet rats, we had them in 3rd grade but an actual in my house rat would make me into a quivering pile of NOPE.
Q: Is it Mc-over? [ implied :( ]
[insert giant chorus of thanks]
ProMa: You guys asked great questions thank you! It was so much fun, I'm glad others thought so too!
sahdah: It was my pleasure, I love musicals!
ProMa: And thanks to my betas here too. Yulie and Sand saved my liiiife.

RACE #148: Drop13 Big Cottonwood Half Marathon
It’s no secret that I have an eternal crush on Big Cottonwood Canyon. I love this canyon. Ever since I was a child and my grandparents would take us up the canyon for a picnic to now as a runner — the beauty and majesty of the canyon leaves me awestruck. As a runner I jump on any opportunity to run this canyon I get — whether it’s a race or training run.
After I backed out of the Utah Valley Marathon a month or so ago, I decided to register for the Drop13 Half instead of simply downgrading to the half. This is a fun, fast course. And, unlike the Revel Big Cottonwood Half Marathon, 12 miles of the race are in the canyon compared to about 10 or so.
Not, that I don’t love Revel Big Cottonwood, it’s just — I love canyon miles. Being a bigger runner I love having gravity on my side. It makes it much, much more enjoyable.

Going into the race I didn’t really have a set goal. Still dealing with my sprained ankle I didn’t know what to expect? I wanted to at least come in under three hours — which I felt was doable. I still have pain in the ankle, but it’s pretty much only regelated to when I move laterally than anything.
If I wasn’t dealing with the ankle rehab I was really hoping to push 2:30 — which is what I ran last year. It’s been humbling dealing with this ankle, because I do feel like I could push that time, but the ankle hinders that. I just have to remember to be patient with my recovery no matter now anxious I am to move forward.
Race day started early — as is usual with summer races. With a 6am gun time I up at 2am and out the door by 3am so I could get on a bus for the start line at 4:30am. So, so, so, so, so early. But, that’s the beast of summer running.
After meeting up with Tim and his wife — Boojah — we rode up the canyon together. After a quick pit stop to the Honey Buckets we still had just over an hour left until gun time. The trick now was staying warm until then. Which isn’t very easy up Big Cottonwood — anytime time of the year.
A post shared by 🔼That’s me. (@josherwalla) on Jun 10, 2017 at 11:44am PDT
While wandering around the starting line for a bit, I found a group of my friends huddled together in the Uhaul with the engine running and heat blasted to high. There wasn’t enough room for me in the cabin, but I was able to stick my face into the open window — which did the trick.
After take a quick group picture and after waiting for the majority of the crowd to cross the start line — we were off! Tim and I decided to stick together for most of run depending on how we both felt. With my ankle and his lack of miles of late — we didn’t really know what to expect? So we just we just ran together.
I felt good in the first few miles of the race. My ankle felt really good and I tried to focus on pushing myself as best as I could. It wasn’t until about mile 4-5 that I started to feel the ankle rather aggressively.
Most of this discomfort was brought on by the twists and turns in the course. Many of those turns acted much like a lateral move which aggravated the ankle. Luckily, it doesn’t cause extreme pain in my ankle, but it makes it uncomfortable enough that if I am not careful I can misalign everything about my gait and pace. Which can cause more pain and issues in the long run.
A post shared by (phat) josh (@fight4phat) on Jun 10, 2017 at 3:13pm PDT
At this point I had split with Tim at the last aid station so he could use a Honey Bucket. So I just centered on my ankle, gait and pace. I cranked up my music and just watched the terrain so I could avoid uneven grades to pain my ankle.
Basically, as the course wound down the canyon my pace became more of a fartlek than anything. Which I was fine with, but it was a bit frustrating because I very much just wanted a consistent pace. But, I just focused on doing my best and pushing myself where I could.
Around Mile 8-9 Tim caught back up with me, we kept a good paced fartlek. We ended up walking most of the switchback. Even walking the switchback was tough on my ankle. The elevation drop lends itself to runners than walkers, so my quads lurched forward while my ankle got a brunt of the impact.
It wasn’t fun.
A post shared by (phat) josh (@fight4phat) on Jun 10, 2017 at 3:20pm PDT
The last few miles were pretty non-descript and was easier for me to run. But, at this point of the race my ankle was hurting pretty bad — so any push I made to run faster was rather painful. So, I just tried to find a good pace that was at least faster than a walk.
Tim was hurting pretty good and started walking more, so with about a mile, mile and half out I ditched him. I couldn’t walk without my ankle hurting worse, so I had to keep going at my set pace. Plus, I just wanted to be done — aaaaaand — I felt like a sub-three time was still a reachable goal.
So I pressed forward like a hot mess.
At Mile 12 I got a second mind as we exited the canyon. And, I pushed myself, especially as I saw that I would be cutting the goal time close. I kept the walking to a minimum and only in areas where I felt I needed to slow down for the sake of my ankle. But, I felt like I had enough energy to make it.
Which, I did.
A post shared by 🔼That’s me. (@josherwalla) on Jun 10, 2017 at 2:51pm PDT
I crossed the finish line in 2:56:08. Not my fastest time, but also not my slowest. And, given the circumstances with my ankle — I felt proud of myself. I could have easily taken it easy, especially those last couple miles. But, I didn’t. I kept pushing and it paid off. And, I met my goal.
Luckily, my ankle is feeling okay 24 hours after the race. Really the only pain I have is in my quads which is expected for a race like this one. That gives me hope for a faster recovery. I start physical therapy on the ankle next week so that will only help.
But, I have Race #148 done — and now I am focused on the Bear Lake Trifecta this week. Luckily, I am just doing the half marathon trifecta, but it will be a challenge for sure. Is it the smartest? Probably not. But, I won’t have any reservations backing out of any of the races if I feel like my ankle can’t take it.
And, if all goes according to plan I will also be hitting a milestone on Friday when I run my 150th race. It’s hard to believe this journey is just 30 races away from being completed. But, at the same time — I am excited to move forward onto some other goals in my running and life. More that I will share not much later.
A post shared by (phat) josh (@fight4phat) on Jun 10, 2017 at 3:23pm PDT
Anyways — I’ll be back for the Drop13 again next year. I’ve got some goals and unfinished business to deal with on this course. I want to redeem my time and hopefully meet a new PR! But, in the meantime I’ll keep my focus on strengthening my ankle, getting stronger, faster and slimmer.
But, right now the focus is on Bear Lake!
IT’S BEAR LAKE OR BUST, BABY!!!
MY NEXT FIVE RACES
RACE #148: Drop13 Big Cottonwood Half Marathon, June 10, 2017 (2:56:08) One of my favorite canyons and races. I was hoping for a faster time, but with my sprained ankle it was a little hard navigating some of the turns and uneven grades. The legs felt great and wanted to fly. Oh, well, I was still in heaven. I ran most of the race with Tim who was running his first race in nearly six months. I always enjoy running with Tim … kilt and all. I’ve just gotta have patience with my ankle. It will heal completely in time. But, man was it difficult on this course! I just wanted to fly! #drop13half #race148 #running @joshruns180 @fight4phat @josherwalla @onhillevents

I found a bag of Goldbären left as a gift from my German friends. I want to eat, but I don’t. I want to keep them for the rest of my life. But, I really want to eat them. But, I feel like I shouldn’t. Aaaaaaand …. they’re gone. Dare I say they were “DAS GOOD”?

That Time Our Beach House Photobombed HGTV http://ift.tt/2nHQPFh
Despite not even being close to finished, our beach house made its television debut on HGTV this past Sunday night! See it there on the right side of the screen? Our rotten siding basically worked its way into a solid 5% of the episode.
We had no idea it was going to be on, hence Sherry cranking her excitement level up to 11 on Insta-stories that night for those of you who got to witness that (here it is below, in case you missed it):
It was part of an HGTV show called Beachfront Bargain Hunt because the house RIGHT NEXT DOOR was one of the three homes the featured couple was considering (the show follows a similar format to House Hunters). Spoiler alert: it’s not the one they picked, so those aren’t our neighbors you see there. And nope, it’s not our realtor either. But the excitement? Still palpable.
Back when we purchased our house last fall, our realtor – who was the buyer’s agent for that house too – had mentioned that Cape Charles had been featured a few times on the show, and she knew there was another episode coming up that was filmed a while ago. And she texted us a few weeks ago to remind us to watch it once it popped up on the DVR as being the Cape Charles episode. But neither she, we, nor the owners of it knew that house had been filmed for the episode (filming happened before her buyers bought it). Needless to say, there were a lot of exclamation points exchanged via text when we all realized that our little row of houses were on screen.
Actually, Sherry and I found it HILARIOUS. The thought of the poor camera guys who probably just threw up their hands and were like “well crap, I guess we can’t crop this mess out” and instead had to shoot our sad siding from like six different angles, including shots that clearly involved a crane or a drone or something. They tried to use pretty fast shots of it, but more than a few of you guys recognized that janky siding and messaged us, so maybe even a fast pan isn’t fast enough.
We’re not exactly sure when they filmed it (we know it was before our neighbors bought it, and from the look of the hydrangeas we’d guess last summer). So even though our house wasn’t ready for its close up, at least there was pretty greenery to distract from it. Look over there everyone, big blue flowers!
I share this not just because I wanted to take lots of photos of my TV screen like a weirdo, but because the episode was actually a cool chance for viewers to see the potential we saw when we bought our house. Because not only is the home featured one of the four near-identical houses on our street, it’s actually the EXACT ONE that our realtor let us tour before we took the plunge on ours. You know, the one we frequently mention having sold for about three times as much as ours? So now thanks to HGTV, you get to go inside too!
The kitchen/dining area is the most interesting to look at, because you can see some of the differences in their floor plan. For instance, theirs still had the original chimney column, which they used to anchor a kitchen peninsula (their stove and hood are right on the other side). Our chimney had been removed by a previous owner, but it would’ve been right where that big open column is in the wall below.
They kept their back staircase too, but no longer had a back door – just a window – which allowed them to run some of their kitchen across the back wall.
Meanwhile ours has a back door there that we’re keeping for easy backyard/deck access, but it’s ridiculously fun to see “alternate realities” of a house with the same floor plan.
And speaking of the back stairs, this shot of theirs gives you a little bit of an idea of how ours might eventually look as you come up. Ours will open into the master bedroom, whereas theirs goes to an open living area (with a daybed) and an attached bathroom.
That upstairs bathroom is on the opposite side of the house than ours is, so that’s actually our bathroom window you see outside their bathroom window. Thank goodness for curtains!
The house is really nicely done inside, so I believe the featured couple’s reasons for nixing it were its size (they wanted one more bedroom) and that it was bit further from the beach (we’re 3 blocks from it, their pick was 1 block away). They didn’t mention that it was next to a house that appeared to be falling apart, but I think we can all read between the lines. ;)
If you happen to catch a rerun of it, the episode also provides a nice overview of Cape Charles (sometimes literally – there are some cool aerial shots) and the things that charmed us about it. You might also get a bit more insight into our exterior paint color decision if you watch the episode. We even learned a little bit about the town ourselves from watching it. Gotta take the kids to that train museum now!
And the good news is that if HGTV and anyone else decides to ambush our house with their cameras these days, it’ll be looking a bit more presentable over there.
In fact, we’re headed there this week to see our crisp white trim, which can’t come soon enough since the yellow tan looks kind of sickly with the pink. Not any worse than our house’s first TV debut though.

My Improvised Liberty Park Run
My Grandma had a saying whenever she had to do something she didn’t really want to do. She’d exasperate, “you gotta do what’cha gotta do, when gotta do it!” And, she’d usually follow that up with, “well Josher, you can’t win them all!”
You could pretty much sum up my Saturday long run with those words.
This weekend has been on my calendar for a loooooong run. Initially, I wanted to do a self-supported ultra run — 50 miles to be exact. I wanted to run from the State Capital in Salt Lake City to the Provo Towne Center. It’s a run that’s on my Honey Bucket List — and I WILL do it one day.
But, I decided against for a number of reasons — the main reason being my back, but also I liked the idea of doing it on a looped course, like my last ultra, so that I could have an aid station every 2-3 miles or so. I decided to do 50 miles at Liberty Park where I could have an aid station and/or 7 Eleven every mile and a half or so.
After that decision the plan went from 50 miles to 50K to 20 miles before deciding that a canyon run sound better, so I organized a group run down Emigration Canyon to Liberty Park. That run is about 13 miles from the Little Mountain summit and one I used to do quite a bit a few years ago. And, even though I am running the Emigration Canyon Half Marathon next week — I love the canyon enough that I knew I wouldn’t get sick of it come next week.
A post shared by (phat) josh (@fit.phat) on Mar 25, 2017 at 10:23am PDT
I had a good 8-9 people committed to the run, but come Friday night that number started dwindling. Part of that reason was the forecast, but others opted to stay home or get a bit more sleep — which I don’t fault or am upset about it. I get it — I’ve done it too.
So, come Saturday morning, when my friend Laura and I were the only ones to show — I knew I wasn’t going to be running down Emigration Canyon. Which I was fine with, so I just decided to just run Liberty Park. Laura had done 16 miles the previous day so she decided to just go home.
After talking for a while with Laura, I decided to get going on my run. And, I won’t lie — I really wasn’t feeling it. Especially with having planned to run 13-16 miles for the day. But, as much as I don’t mind running Liberty Park, I had my mind set on doing at least 13 of those miles down a canyon.
So, I tried to talk myself into my run. At first, I tried to justify just doing 8 miles, but after a couple of strong laps, I knew I had a bit more than that in me — so I fixed my mind on 10 miles. And, for most of my run I just planned on 10 miles — which is about 6-7 laps around the park.
And, for as much as I wasn’t feeling my run, I did feel rather strong. I alternated my laps with a running lap and a fartleked lap (walk, run, walk, run about every third or fourth of a mile … ish) and just got into a good groove. I just focused on losing myself into my music and thought.
A post shared by (phat) josh (@fit.phat) on Mar 25, 2017 at 10:19am PDT
Well, I guess I got lost pretty good because I lost track of my laps and ended up doing an extra one. I ran to my car THINKING I just finished running 10 miles, but when I looked at my watch I noticed it said 11.5 miles. I laughed at this realization and then just thought to myself — I got one more lap in me.
So, I beasted out one more lap.
At this point it was raining pretty strong. But, I was already wet, so it wasn’t going to matter anyways — so I just cranked up my music (R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” which had been on repeat for about 3-4 miles) and went for an even 13 miles. But, of course I ended up doing laps around the parking lot to get 13.1 miles.
I did briefly entertain the thought of doing another lap, but I knew if I did that, then I’d have to do another to even it to 16 miles — and I was actually getting a little tired. But, mostly hungry — and no thanks to me craving burritos for most of my run. So, I just decided to stop.
After sitting in the car to warm up a bit my hunger grew strong — especially for tacos or a burrito. So, I decided to trek over to the Sears Burrito for lunch. It’s been a looooong time since I’ve eaten at the Tacos Don Rafas stand and I just wanted/needed it in my life at that moment.
I was wavering between getting corn tortilla tacos or a burrito, because of the gluten in the flour tortilla. But, I made the decision for the heftier burrito justifying that I SHOULD be okay this once — especially if I didn’t get sour cream or cheese on it.
A post shared by ⬆️That’s me. (@josherwalla) on Mar 25, 2017 at 11:27am PDT
Anyways, long story short — I was wrong. But, at least it didn’t stop me from enjoying it in the moment. But, I paid for the flour tortilla later. Not fun — and a lesson learned.
But, all in all — I feel good about the run. It was tough to mentally get into it, but I eventually got into it. I didn’t let the rain mentally destroy me and I forged through it for a rewarding 13 miles.
A good way to go into my race next weekend. I’m looking forward to a solid week of running and workouts now that I have my back in a place where I want/need it. And, I feel confident breaking through with a solid sub-three during the race.
And, at least I know I’ll be running Emigration Canyon next week. No plan B — and no burrito.
Weekly Review
It was another tough week for me. I got in some miles during the week, but I wouldn’t call them good or what I planned on — but I still got about 17 miles in and I am good with that right now. My SI joint flared up again and made walking just painful for a few days. I’ve been doing a lot of stretching to avoid the flare ups, but when it happens — it happens.
I really should get into a chiropractor, but I won’t lie — I’m a bit too cheap for that. It’s usually my last resort. So, I did the next best thing and found some tutorials on YouTube on how to align your SI joint by yourself. And, you know what — it works! I haven’t had any stiffness the past couple of days. Truly magical.
Anyways — I want to go into next week’s race feeling prepared with a few strong runs in me next week. I feel that’s possible and I am ready for them. I want to gain some speed back. I just need to be a patient young grasshopper.

CAMELBACK FRIDAY
On Friday night my friend Emily celebrated her 30th birthday with (what will hopefully become a tradition) riding camels! Here is a little video she made of the adventure. I won’t lie … I want a camel now. Anyone want to buy one for me?
