I apologise for asking this if it isn't something you want to talk about but do you know why there is so much hatred for Kagura from so many S*ssr*n shippers/HnY fans? I haven't seen HnY because I don't like sequels that take away the happy ending of the original so I only know a few spoilers through the grapevine, but the Kagura hate I've seen lately from some HnY fans reminds me of anti-Kikyou Inukag shippers from twenty years ago. But Inukag shippers are more supportive of Kikyou nowadays and fandom in general is less misogynistic than it used to be, so I don't understand why another woman being important to Sesshoumaru in the original Inuyasha series is so unacceptable that Kagura gets hate now. Even if people ship S*ssr*n, love isn't a finite resource? Sesshoumaru loving and wanting to avenge Kagura doesn't mean he can't love anyone else, it doesn't diminish his other relationships—especially because Rin was a literal eight-year-old child when Kagura was alive. It's not like Kagura was a yandere type who harmed Sesshoumaru or anyone else he cared about, either, after a while Rin knew she had nothing to fear from Kagura and was squee'ing about Kagura being in love with Sesshoumaru.
Again, I apologise for how long this question was and sending it on Anon, I just didn't want to get hate from S*ssr*n shippers or HnY fans. Kagura's my favourite Inuyasha character, so it made me sad to browse the Inuyasha reddit/tumblr and see people calling her a 'manipulative bitch' and such when I went looking for fanart and fic about her. It's especially strange coming from people who praise other former villain characters like Sesshoumaru, who did worse things than Kagura when he was evil.
hello buddy sorry this is late i literally did not see it??
but since i'm obviously on the opposite end of the spectrum in this situation & have only really been involved in the tumblr iy fandom for so many years, the only thing i know about any of that drama is that she's perceived as a threat to their yucky ship bc she was really the canon love interest for sesshomaru in the og series. and kagura is obviously the polar opposite of rin in literally every aspect. like, we have a demoness that was born from the body of the main villain who comes out the gate swinging on koga's entire family & is forced to beef with the whole inugang constantly and calls sesshomaru a bitch to his face the second time they meet. versus a cute lil baby who's a complete blank slate. so for people that don't care for her bc of their ship bias it's pretty easy to misinterpret her character & motivations and draw silly conclusions lmao. i'm not gonna say kagura isn't problematic in some ways but LITERALLY WHO CARES it's not that serious?? pretty much everyone in IY has done morally questionable shit. it's a fairy tale set in feudal japan, like. and it sucks that you're coming across negative bs when you're just trying to enjoy yourself in this fandom!! that happened to me too when i first got back into iy in 2020 bc i didn't know that kagura was like severely hated until i joined an iy group on fb (owned by you-know-who, unbeknownst to me) and saw all that weird shit lmao. but there's a lot of really great creators on tumblr, at least, that are anti-sr & pro-kagura, so i hope that you could at least enjoy yourself on this blog!! <3

✚✚ ABOUT ME ✚✚
(Just realised I haven't made one yet lol)
✚General✚
Name: 'IWillStealYourToes'
Nicknames (in order of pref): Toto, To, IWillStealYourToes (bit ominous saying my whole username 💀 /lh)
Pronouns + Gender: She/her + Female
Sexuality: Bisexual/a-spec(?)
Languages: English, though I'm learning Spanish and French (with little knowledge on German) too :)
MBTI: ENFJ(-T)
Other: I'm neurodivergent bc I have OCD (and probably Autism)
✚Interests✚
Academic:
Languages - Ever since early Highschool, I adored all languages! I currently only learn German and Spanish, but if I could I would learn French too. My dream is to be at least tri-lingual!!
Non-academic:
Gaming - I love gaming with all my heart. I think I've always been interested in games since I was at least 9 or something. My current favourite game is probably TF2!! I started playing in 2019 and haven't stopped loving it since (although the a lot of the playerbase can be toxic)
Drawing - I'm not the best at drawing, but a sketch now and then always helps me, especially when I want to make a new OC! I also like sketching up outfit ideas for me to try out later. Idk why but I can't draw masc people :(
Writing - Of course I love writing! I started writing 'x reader' fics when I was on Wattpad then moved to Tumblr!
Piano - I'm self-taught so I'm not that good, but I still enjoy playing simple tunes now and then. Last song I was learning was 'Libet's Delay'. :)
Swimming - I don't take classes anymore, I just enjoy relaxing in the water. Sometimes it's really nice just to immerse yourself in the water and not make a sound, you know?
✚My current fandoms✚
TF2 - I think this is probably my special interest lol. I love TF2 more than anything, if I can relate it to TF2 I probably have tbh-
My fave character is Engie or Demo and my main is Medic!
PAYDAY 2 - Something about shooting things as a team is just rlly fun to me lmao. The OST is genuinely so good if you can't get the game just listen to it pls- I usually am a stealth guy but omg M1 garand go ping yippeeeee- Used to be my hyperfixation lol
My fave character is Sokol or Rust and my main is Joy (I play Sokol or Dallas sometimes)
Undertale - Probably the first game I actually loved??? It's literally still on my favourite list fr- I would play it again but I did the True Pacifist run and I don't wanna ruin Frisk's life 😭
My fave character is Papyrus!
Star Wars: Clone Wars - It's an amazing show with great characters and visuals! I definitely have it as one of my special interests... It's really interesting to watch the show and see how each season the animation/visuals improve. I wish there was a separate show or smth where the clones actually get a good ending for once... 😭
My favourite character is Fives, Tech or Plo Koon :)
(I literally just found out the graffiti on Plo Koon's ships say 'Plo's Bros' and I can't stop thinking about it)
Lethal Company - I love this little horror game so much! I had a hyperfixation (no longer) to the point I actually made a 67 slide PowerPoint about it... I might have a problem. I like playing it with my friends the most, since I get scared alone really easily!
Republic Commando - I got it a little while ago and got a huge hyperfix on them- I love these lil guys so much I sure hope nothing bad happens to them!! (especially to Scorch and Sev haha) (/s, I know what happens)
My fave character for sure is Scorch :) He's just a silly guy (he has committed several murder-sprees and will continue to do so)

i've finished the demo! do you think the last scene will change depending on origins? there is a possibility like alchemist would be more link to leander. it's advertised as a dark gothic romance novel for mature audiences but i think since the game is nowhere near finish, they cannot put an age rating on it yet.
oh, i didn't realised you could add additional items to your tier, i'm new to kickstarter so i have no idea lol. that's good but i've heard the cost of the shipping is pretty expensive too.
ais might be the true route for the game like with other otome games, you have to play the characters in certain order to reach the final/canon ending/route.
there are character sheets??? i feel like mhin is a character that grow on you and leander is the ideal one to start with and vere, you either love or hate him.
really? i thought ais intro was intense esp with that soundtrack! his music theme is the most memorable one. if there are changes, hopefully they will just add more piercings to sen or something like that considering she already have a nose ring.
elyon (?), i felt like he was deliberately designed like that because of his mysterious brief profile information like trying to find the one thing that money can't buy.
what do you think the potential new stretch goals could be? i think we are at the last one. i hope they add more physical merc for the basic tiers then because a lot of fans had chosen them.
omg maybe! i know each origin comes with its own special trait of some sort!! i wanna play sum more when i get home later this week!!! wbu?? r u gonna play thru again using a diff origin? alsooo my fren actually did play thru as alchemist and the dialogue for kuras in particular are diff!! not sure about leander but i thought about that too!!
also yesyes!!! on the touchstarved blog theres chara sheets for all of em! it tells u what they like + dislike alongside their fatal flaw! leanders is cut out im pretty sure soo im sooo curious abt hims. :3 also omg real! mhin is soooososososo pretty eee n i do enjoy their personality buuut, leander is def ideal eep!! vere is super cute to me, but i feel like id stutter to talk to him irl and then perish cus i give in too easily LMAOOO
also yes!! i agree w sen!! give her more piercings shes so damn hot im passing OUT!!! also also, i think leander n vere’s intros kinda swooped me away…. like i literally was dming my friend like: PLs i hope its not vere next ill pass out AND DIE… and then he showed up n i died. poof. GONE. (;ω;)
okok so the whole ais thing w me was like, hmmm. ur hot yes and ur music slaps but that was about it for me! i agree it was really intense! IM NOT EVEN SURE WHY i just felt like. nuffin towards him when i played it LOL. but the scene where he almost borderline kills tht one dude was so hot fusjdjjdjdjkaka. i have a whole lil drabble rn about ais and said alleyway…. im … hes…. hes so. (>_<)… on the floor SOBBING!!! if he is the true route i wont b mad!!! like they do put him in the middle of all the promo art sooo… i could see leander being a true route also. hes soo sweet. i wanna *** him.
yea yea i also agree abt elyon! he’s super handsome tho i bet his route will be great! i wonder what his personality will be like doe… like condescending? rude? patronizing?? hmm hmm. ohh also b4 i forget! yesyes u can change ur tier n do add-ons on the page! it’ll say edit tier or somthin like that! i think shipping will probs b 15 but i am a fool w a lil bit of extra monies. ʅ(◞‿◟)ʃ
personally i gots nooo clue for stretch goals but im the same thinking as u!! im praying for more physical merch. I WAN AN AIS DAKIMURA PLS PLS PLS PLS PLS telepathically trying 2 connect w the devs rn… HEAR MY PLEAS!!!

What Naps Are Like With Them (Everyone)
In celebration of my first post kinda blowing up, I wrote a little something for all the characters, including Luke! (platonically for him, of course)
Again, thank you guys for all the love on my Satan Reacting to Montero fic <3 I’ll be working on requests after this.
Also, no beta we die like Lilith.
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Lucifer
➼ Never sleeps, e v e r
➼ His brothers would destroy the House of Lamentation in his sleep
➼Took a while to convince him to take a nap with you because of this
➼ His brothers listen to you more than they listen to their older brother, so you begged them to behave for a few hours so that their older brother can rest for once
➼ You will use your pact if you have to, just please let this man sleep
➼ You made sure to pick a day where you know Lucifer hadn’t slept the night before due to his workload
➼ Seriously, you had to talk to Diavolo about that
➼ You both got into your comfiest pajamas and played some soft classical music for ultimate relaxation
➼ You thought about taking a picture of hm while he slept
➼ He saw it coming and had you sleep facing away from him with his arms wrapped around you so you couldn’t turn around
➼ Smart bastard
➼  If you complain about it he’ll laugh at you
➼ Hey, at least you get cuddles
➼ Luci here looks so calm and peaceful while he sleeps, it’s adorable
➼ No wonder everyone tries to take a picture of him sleeping
➼ He’s a heavy sleeper, so you end up having to wake him up after a few hours
➼ He thanks you
➼ He’s well-rested and in a good mood for the rest of the day
➼ His brothers obviously take advantage of that
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Mammon
➼ Unlike most of his brothers, he actually has a decent sleep schedule (most of the time)
➼ However, if you wanted to take a nap with him, he wouldn’t say no
➼ Well, he’d say no, but then say yes immediately after
➼ “Whaddya mean you wanna take a nap with me? Do I look like Belphie!?”
➼ Blushing like crazy while complaining, as usual
➼ “Fine, I’ll go nap with him, then.”
➼ “Oi! Come back here! I changed my mind, I wanna take a nap!”
➼ Tsundere baby
➼ Obviously, you tease him about it
➼ “Jealous, huh? I thought that was Levi’s thing.”
“Shut up! Are we gonna cuddle or not?”
“I said nap, not cuddle.”
➼ Cue the pout
➼ The definition of the 🥺 face
➼ Please love this child
➼ “I’m kidding, of course we’re gonna cuddle.”
➼ Usually a little spoon
➼ Unless he’s in a jealous mood
➼ If he is, he will hold on to you like his life depends on it.
➼ More teasing, obviously
➼ If you think about it, Greed and Envy are very similar
➼ Poor baby wants love
➼ New drinking game: take a shot every time I call Mammon a baby
➼ I shot of water, I know you’re dehydrated
➼ Anyways, naps with Mammon = cuddles
➼ Either you’re holding him to you or he’s holding you to him
➼ f o r e h e a d  k i s s e s
➼ Mammon gets nightmares about what happened with Belphie sometimes, so lots of comfort cuddles
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Leviathan
➼ “Levi, did you sleep at all last night?”
➼ Obviously not
➼ He was up all night binge watching the latest season of “The Magical Ruri Hanai: Demo Girl”’s  spin-off series
➼ Why would you even ask?
➼ “Levi, did you stay up all night?”
➼ He looked away, a little embarrassed. “Uh, yeah.”
➼ “Levi, honey. You need to sleep. It’s not good for your health to be staying up so late.”
➼ Leviathan.exe has stopped working
➼ You’re worrying about him?????
➼ And you’re calling him honey?????
➼ Are you trying to kill him?????
➼ “You must be exhausted. Wanna take a nap?”
“Oh, uh. Yeah. I guess I could use a nap.”
“Alright. We should go to my room, since there’s more room on my bed than in your tub.”
➼ Wait you meant a nap together????
➼ You’re really trying to kill him.
➼ Usually, he’d make fun of you and call you a normie.
➼ But he was currently too busy dying.
➼ If somehow you managed to resurrect him and get him to your room to nap, then you’d know this shy boi is a little spoon.
➼ Does this really come as a surprise to anyone? It shouldn’t.
➼ He’s blushing like crazy the whole time.
➼ “Levi, if you can't sleep with me here, I can leave.”
“No!”
➼ He does sleep eventually.
➼ Sweet baby cuddles you in his sleep.
➼ Wholesome af
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Satan
➼ As the most responsible one in the family, he has a pretty good sleep schedule, so he doesn’t normally take naps.
➼ However, if you ask him to, he’ll agree.
➼ If it makes you happy he’ll do it <3
➼ He’s not really touchy-feely and won’t initiate any cuddling.
➼ Dude that you asked to nap because you were tired and wanted to sleep.
➼ Nah bro, you just want cuddles.
➼ While he won’t initiate any cuddles, if you make it more obvious that you want some, he’ll give them to you.
➼ Big spoon
➼ If you want him to be the small spoon, he will, but he’ll be flustered af.
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Asmodeus
➼ “Asmo, wanna sleep together?”
➼ Could you have made a poorer word choice?
➼ No, you could not.
➼ This boy literally made the lenny face.
➼ “Asmo, I meant a nap.”
“Well, I suppose that’ll satisfy me for now.”
➼ You then proceeded to smack him with a pillow.
“Hey! Don’t mess up my hair!”
➼ You had to wait for him to take off his makeup and change his clothes and stuff.
➼ It’s a process.
➼ Cuddle’s tf out of you.
➼ He’ll be the big spoon or the little spoon. It doesn’t matter to him, so you can decide.
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Beelzebub
➼ Takes naps with Belphie a lot and thought it was cute that you also wanted to nap.
➼ Pre-nap snack first, though.
➼ Then he’s ready.
➼ Sweet boi will enjoy the nap whether he’s a big spoon or little spoon.
➼ If you’re happy, he’s happy <3
➼ You kiss his face a lot.
➼ He thinks you’re the cutest little human ever when you do that.
➼ I’d say soft Beel, but when is he ever not soft?
➼ Not counting the custard incident
➼ He Likes to kiss the top of your head while you sleep.
➼ He definitely snores.
➼ It takes some getting used to, but you’re not gonna let keep you from cuddling your big boi.
➼ It honestly feels really safe and comforting to just be wrapped up in his arms.
➼ Equally comforting to have his head resting against you.
➼ Overall just really soft.
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Belphegor
➼ You don’t even need to ask. He’s the king of naps.
➼ Being around Belphie for an extended period of time makes you sleepy.
➼ You’re not sure if it’s because he’s sleep or if it’s because he has some sort of sleep-power.
➼ Any time you cuddle you end up taking a nap.
➼ Do I even have to say it?
➼ S m a l l  s p o o n
➼ The smallest spoon.
➼ As the youngest, he’s the most spoiled, so he’s really really clingy and just expects you to drop whatever you’re doing at any given time to nap with him.
➼ I mean, you’d probably do it even if he didn’t expect you to.
➼ He does this adorable thing when he’s sleepy and he sees you nearby where he’ll go up to you and wrap his arms around you and rest his head against your shoulder and just say “Sleep, please.”
➼ You will stop whatever you’re doing no matter what and go up to the attic to nap with him.
➼ Not an exaggeration. It’s happened while Lucifer was talking to you before he he was p i s s e d.
➼ It was obviously intentional
➼ But how can you say no to his cute face?
➼ He seems to be able to keep you from having nightmares and you sleep 100x better with him than on your own
➼ Softest boi
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Simeon
➼ While he may dress like a stripper, this man is an angel and is pure™
➼ Anything you want, you’ll get. How can he ever deny you a thing?
➼ He can’t.
➼ You want naps? You get naps.
➼ You want cuddles? You get cuddles.
➼ You want sleepy kisses? You get sleepy kisses.
➼ Hotel? Trivago.
➼ But seriously, sleepy kisses are definitely a thing.
➼ Especially forehead kisses.
➼ Big spoon. He likes to hold you.
➼ Sweet boy loves you so much 🥺
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Luke (Platonically)
➼ Purgatory Hall has weekly movie nights, and they invite you over a lot to join them.
➼ You and Solomon have a very long list of human world movies you want Simeon to watch, but the poor man can’t figure out how Devilflix works for the life of him, so group movie nights are the only way.
➼ Not that any of you mind, of course.
➼ Luke begged Simeon to let him join you guys (he has a pretty strict bedtime)
➼ Simeon lets him occasionally if the movie is appropriate.
➼ Luke insisted on sitting next to you and sharing any treats he made that day.
➼ Poor baby ended up falling asleep not even halfway through the movie.
➼ Solomon obviously made fun of him.
➼ “Looks like it’s naptime for the little chihuahua.”
“Don’t tease him!” You say, defending Luke.
➼ At some point, Luke shifts so that he’s leaning against you in his sleep.
➼ You coo at how cute the ‘lil cherub looks.
➼ Aaaand then you proceed to fall asleep as well.
➼ You woke up the next day still on the couch. You were pretty confused since Simeon usually carries anyone who falls asleep to their bed (or the guest room, in your case).
➼ Then you realize Luke still asleep and wrapped around you.
➼ HE IS THE MOST PRECIOUS BABY EVER
➼ You assumed Simeon didn’t want to attempt moving one of you and risk waking the other so he just left you too
➼ Whatever it was, you went back to sleep with the little cherub snuggling you
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Solomon
➼ Purgatory Hall sleepover!
➼ Everyone had already fallen asleep, so you asked Solomon if he’d be alright with you two sleeping together.
➼ Not a good idea.
➼ You’re both settled in his bed and you’re about to drift off to sleep when this silly little sorcerer decided to tickle you.
➼ You  s h r e i k
➼ “Solomon!”
➼ “Keep your voice down, dear. You wouldn’t want Simeon hearing and getting the wrong idea, now. Would you?”
➼ The  s m a c c  you gave him though-
➼ “Can I sleep now, or are you gonna keep bothering me?”
“You know you love me.” He grinned.
“Well, duh. But I also love sleep.”
➼ He does let you sleep after that.
➼ You fall asleep first, and one look at your sleeping face and he falls in love with you all over again.
➼ You’re so  p r e c i o u s.
➼ He held you close to him as you slept, pressing soft, featherlight kisses against our forehead and nose, careful not to wake you.
➼ He’s a bitch until you fall asleep, pretty much.
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Diavolo
➼ It wasn’t intentional for you to fall asleep, really.
➼ You’d had a long day, and you had been sitting with the demon prince at his palace as he told you about his day over a cup of tea.
➼ It wasn’t like what he was saying was boring.
➼ No, it’s just that you were so tired, and the sofa you were sitting on was so comfy, and Diavolo was talking so much.
➼ It didn’t help that the tea that Barbatos had prepared was especially soothing.
➼ You couldn’t help yourself. You dozed off.
➼ Diavolo continued talking, and probably would’ve gone on for a long while without even noticing if Barbatos hadn’t cleared his throat and gestured towards your sleeping form.
➼ If it had been anyone else, he would have deemed it disrespectful.
➼ But it was you, and he had realized a long time ago that he was incapable of being upset with you.
➼ “It seems they’ve had a tiring day, my Lord. I suggest you let them rest.” Said Barbatos.
“Of course. I wouldn’t dream of disturbing them.” Carefully, he made his way over to you and pried the teacup from our hands so that you didn’t move and break it in your sleep.
➼ Then, he removed his suit jacket and draped it over you like a blanket.
➼ Not gonna lie, even Barbatos was a bit shooketh.
➼ He didn’t say anything, though.
➼ Diavolo kissed your forehead lightly and had Barbatos bring him the last of his paperwork for the day, which he finished quickly while remaining by your side.
➼ After that he picked up our still sleeping form and brought you to his room where he tucked you in.
➼ He sent Lucifer a text saying that you would be staying the night at the palace then went to sleep after answering a few emails.
➼ He snores loudly, but you somehow managed to sleep through it.
»»————- ♔ ————-««
Barbatos
➼ Diavolo set up another palace retreat (because I said so)
➼ You had been assigned a room with Luke and Beelzebub that time.
➼ It went good at first, and everyone was sent off to sleep at around 10 p.m.
➼ At some point in the middle of the night, you awoke from a particularly nasty nightmare.
➼ You were more scared than usual when you woke up, since the room you were in was not your room at the House of Lamentation.
➼ It took a while for you to realize where you were and calm down, but even then you were to afraid to sleep.
➼ Slowly, you exited the room, careful not to disturb Luke and Beel.
➼ You made your way to Barbatos’ room and knocked softly.
➼ Briefly, you wondered if he was asleep, but then he opened the door.
➼ You silently panicked when you realized your hair was a mess and your clothing was rumpled from sleep, but your disheveled appearance didn’t seem to faze him.
➼ “Hello. I was just about to prepare for bed. Is something the matter?”
➼ Suddenly, you felt very, very silly to come to such an ancient, powerful being for help with a little nightmare.
➼ “Sorry, it’s nothing. I apologize for bothering you. I’ll leave.” You said, your cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
“You never bother me, my dear. Would you like to come in?” He asked, opening the door wider and stepping aside.
“Yes. I would like that.”
“Is something bothering you?”
You blushed. “I had a nightmare. I couldn’t go back to sleep after that. I know, it’s silly.”
“Of course it isn’t.”
“Can I... Can I stay here with you tonight?”
“If it would make you feel better, you may.”
➼ Barbatos tucked you in then sat next to you, gently running his hands through your hair. He began singing an old song in some ancient, forgotten language. His voice was soft and soothing as he sang, and you found yourself unable to stay awake even if you tried.
➼ “Goodnight, my dear.” He whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.

rec post for @f-eef that got too long for its own good, and is now just. a general rec post i guess
(as of writing, today is the steam summer sale! writing this before that goes live, so no guarantee everything on here is on sale, but! most of these are older games, so it’s likely. keep them in mind~)
- Iconoclasts my absolute favourite game, ever (along with OFF, but shh), if you check out one game from this list, let it be this one. it’s a genuinely almost flawless package, with gorgeous pixel art, fun gameplay, a really good story, and a cast of characters i just. adore. it’s so so so good, and three years later, i’m still not over it
- The Binding of Isaac so there’s this genre called roguelikes, wherein the whole gimmick is that, when you die, you gotta start from the Very Beginning; and the ‘point’ is getting better and better at the game, until you win! it’s super easy to just, play a few runs (they generally don’t last that long!), and then go on with your day, so it’s a really fun game to just waste time in, if you just wanna chill with some game. and, in my personal opinion, Isaac is the best roguelike game, with so much stuff to unlock, a whole slew of items to play with, and so much content it’s kind of unreal. i definitely think the DLCs are worth picking up, but it’s mostly for more content than like. actually being necessary
- Terraria it’s minecraft, but 2D. unlike MC, it’s got a bit of guidance, which i personally prefer, with bosses to fight and such. an absolutely BLAST with other people too
- A Hat in Time a 3D platformer, ala Mario, that’s just. super charming. it’s also really fun to play. i haven’t actually played the DLC’s, since i played it way back, but i’ve heard good things about Nyakuza Metro, which does look super slick, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Slime Rancher you are a slime rancher. you ranch slimes. it’s honestly just wholesome as hell, and just exudes happy vibes. mostly for running around and collecting slimes, ngl
- The Messenger really funky retro game, wherein you play a ninja on a mission. it’s primary draw is definitely in its gameplay, but there’s a surprising amount of story for this kind of genre? i honestly really just like this one. it’s neat
- Underhero you play as a cute minion, who kind of like. managed to kill the hero. and whoops, guess you’re doing his job now? it’s got that undertale vibe, though i’d say it’s less polished than it. HOWEVER, it’s absolutely lovely and it’s climax is REALLY good
- Hatoful Boyfriend bird dating sim. trust me. the ‘secret’ finale route is just. *chef’s kiss* fantastic
- Night in the Woods if you don’t mind having a very poignant sad time, oh my god, i could not recommend NITW more. it perfectly captures that period when you’re done with school, and suddenly your whole life is stretching before you, and you feel so so fucking lost, and overwhelmed and pained with it. it’s just. so good. a sadness worth experiencing
- Shovel Knight another retro game! this one is, pretty much, the king of the genre, and for very good reasons. the first one (shovel of hope) doesn’t have much story, but the latter ones really add on it. they’re honestly just, really solid games! with funky knight characters!!!
- Hyper Light Drifter man, it’s just a masterpiece. everything about it is perfect. it’s been like, five years, and it’s still one of the very best indie games
- Tell Me Why it’s currently free for june! and it’s a story game! plus, if you like the genre, the devs got the ‘Life Is Strange’ serie(s) to delve into!
- Cat Quest honestly, i just really like this little game. the gameplay is SO much fun, and everything else is just. really charming :’)
- Yoku’s Island Express metroidvania, where you play as a dung-beetle post officer, and the gimmick is that it’s pinball-y! it’s really fun, and very cute and just an all around good time :)
- Owlboy you play as an owl boy! named Otus! and you can fly around, and there’s GORGEOUS pixel graphics, and a neat story, and just. the BEST cast of characters. it’s delightful
- Yuppie Psycho + Count Lucanor just gonna bundle these two together, because they’re both REALLY GOOD. YP is the newer one, and is therefore probably ‘the better one’, but i like them both a ton! they’re 2D horror, but i wouldn’t say they’re that spooky? though that might just be because they’re pixel games! you explore spooky place, and weird stuff happens around you. just a really fun time :)
- Angels of Death my FAVOURITE rpgmaker game, it’s main draw is, a 100%, the main characters and the relationship that develops between them. i just love it a whole lot, and it’s got that lil’ tinge of horror that i, personally, fucking adore. there’s actually an anime based on this, but i haven’t seen it myself!
- Celeste curve ball! it’s a 2D platformer! it’s really good, got a ton of accessibility features, and has like. the tightest gameplay- and, on top of that, surprisingly emotional story!
- Bastion putting Bastion here, because it’s actually the only one i’ve properly played, but you could probably buy any of the Supergiant Games, and come out satisfied. Bastion is the oldest of the bunch, and is definitely a bit less polished for it, but i personally adore it; the gameplay probably hasn’t aged that well, but i think the story and presentation more than makes up for it
- The Darkside Detective funny point and click adventure, with great wit, and a pair of characters i kind of simply adore. it’s main draw is definitely its humour
- Littlewood very wholesome and chill farming game, that feels more like an RPG than something like stardew valley- i’d not recommend it over SV, but if you want more of SV, Littlewood might scratch that itch!
- Pony Island + The Hex absolutely adore both of these, though if i had to rec only one, it’d probably be Pony Island? they’ve both got that undertale-off vibe, though Pony Island definitely leans harder into it. very interesting plays, both of them
- Oxenfree another horror-ish game! primarily story-focused, but oh boy, what a story! i’m a BIG fan of this game, and the sequel was recently announced too! definitely worth a look if you like ghost shenanigans
- Creature in the Well wasn’t a 100% sure if i should rec this, but beside the finale boss, i really enjoyed my time with this! it’s this weird pinball inspired hack and slash, with some amazing vibes
- Kindergarten 1 + 2 they’re just fun little games okay. the 2nd is much more fleshed out, but the 1st one is really fun too
- the Henry Stickmin collection I JUST... LIKE THESE GAMES A LOT... i think you can find the old versions somewhere on the internet, if you wanna check them out first? idk, they’re fun!
- LIMBO + INSIDE personally, i like INSIDE more, but both of these are classics, and also they’re made by a danish team, and i like them a WHOLE LOT
- The Final Station i could not tell you why i like this game as much as i do, but oh my god. i love this game? it’s got a dying world, neat pixel graphics, big zombie apocalypse vibes, and a weird little story
- Year Walk i love Year Walk :)
- Smile For Me if you liked undertale’s lovely cast of characters, oh boy, you’d likely LOVE this game! it’s really, really, fantastic, and the epilogue (not in the actual game lol) hit me right in the feels
- Pikuniku just a fun little game! there’s not really much there, in the grand scheme of things, but it’s a wonderful little play, one of those games that just sets out to give you a good time, and absolutely success. i like it a lot :’)
- A Short Hike wonderful game, where it’s more about exploring the island than actively finishing the game. it’s real wonderful
- ULTRAKILL ANOTHER CURVEBALL! no idea if you like FPS, but oh my god. ULTRAKILL is so fucking good. just an absolute blast to play. there’s a demo to check out, and i’d definitely recommend it, because if it’s a genre you might like, you’ll love this one (OH also it’s in early access, which means it’s not finished yet! personally, i don’t mind that, especially considering this is more gameplay focused, but ya’ know!)
- My Friend Pedro it’s honestly just really fun to play, and sometimes i still think about the implied lore, and go all !!!!
- Little Misfortune another point and click! this one is pretty short, and is set within the same universe as their other game, Fran Bow, which is much bigger, but idk. i like this one. it’s dark cute
- This Strange Realm of Mine i honestly dunno how to explain this one, because it’s kind of weird and a bit odd, but i really like it, in all its weird poetic glory. it’s neat!
- Donut County you’re a terrible racoon who’s ruined the whole city with holes. it’s great and i love it
- OneShot another ‘gives me undertale vibes’, though this one was in development before UT, if i recall correctly! it’s so good, and it’s got some fantastic meta bits, and i love Niko. i love Niko so much
- Inmost gorgeous vaguely spooky game with a neat story... my favourite genre
- Sayonara Wild Hearts i’d call this more of a spectacle than anything else, but oh my god. what a spectacle it is! the OST is amazing, everything about it just hits right, and even if you suck at the gameplay (which i did), it really doesn’t matter, in my opinion? it’s just great all around!

Personality: Hina is a snarky young woman who is honest with her feelings. She doesn’t like to sugar coat or beat around the bush, especially when it comes to Idia. She's his opposite in a lot of ways in person, but the two seem to get along online. Sometimes she even likes his online persona a lot more.
She grew up destitute, and thanks to her parent's being indebted to the Shouds, Hina was offered as collateral. She resents her parents, but still is thankful for living a better life without them. Her intelligence made her an asset and she has skipped a few grades in school. Her plans are to buy her freedom when she graduates. Her special magic wasn't cultivated like other people's but instead happened suddenly. Hina was not interested in plant life but disciplines herself to learn.

"This guy beat me in chess...again. He's one of the few dudes I enjoy talking to. He's sweet, but also pretty smug when he wins. He knows I hate playing complicated games like this."
"Eheheh, but I'm waay better at speed running otome games than he is. The guy’s abysmal with women."

The Right Curves
"You probably noticed this by now but...I'm the only girl in Ignihyde."
"It's weird, right? I was surprised too. I like my dorm well enough, but I feel odd being around so many guys…they're already weird around me as it is…"
"Actually, I was hoping to be far FAR away from...well, nevermind. What's done is done. I'm stuck with him regardless."

Hina and Idia: Dare to Compare
"Hey, can you do me a favor?"
🎮 Eep! (such a scary face…)
"Can you help me out with this program? I tried to mess with the coding but I ended up getting bounced out."
🎮 Wait...are you trying to get past a security system???
"Uh yeah? It's just a fake one for practice."
🎮 You practice on a fake security system? I haven't done that since I was like, nine.
"Lay off me, Shroud. I'm a mechanic, not a programmer…"

Chat 5
Hina and Ortho: Test Run
🤖 Onee-chan! I found you!
"So you did. Did you need something, lil man?"
🤖 Hehe I beat that demo you gave me! It was a lot of fun!
"Ah? But I gave it to you this morning. Was it really that good if you beat all seven levels already?”
🤖 Waa? I had a lot of fun and the best part was the story anyway!
"But it wasn't challenging...the whole point is to stump you…"
🤖 Onee-chan, is beating me all you can think about?
Fin
Idia: Rocky friendship. Hina's family is indebted to the Shrouds for unknown reasons. As a result, she acts as an assistant to him to repay her parents' debts. Hina has a dislike for the man he's become while she prefers his online persona. Idia tosses whatever work he can at her to avoid having an in person conversation with her. She's his unofficial vice prefect.
Ortho: Is crushing on her. Ortho’s crush on her is well known and heavily advertised. Unfortunately, Hina has already rejected him but he feels that he just needs to convince her that she loves him back. There's no telling if this crush is thanks to original Ortho’s feelings or simply the chemistry android Ortho has felt with her. Either way, she is unable to talk him out of it.
Deuce: Bond over mechanics. She also helps him with math. Hina thinks that Deuce doubts himself too often and that is why he isn't reaching his goals yet. Deuce looks up to her and often goes to her for advice. She doesn't mind since he’s genuine about his feelings.
Sebek: Often finds him in the greenhouse during her club meetings. It's just her, so she doesn't mind that he's an extra body. Hina secretly added him and Leona to her club roster so she didn't have to disband. Sebek doesn't like respecting her, but she demands that he does. She can get as loud as him, which makes him back off. She also grows food for him to nibble on so she can keep his name on her member list.
Epel: Amused by his accent and often asks him about apple care. Hina isn't good at gardening, but she wants to better understand her special magic. Epel is helpful and he's glad to info dump all the time.
Leona: His pillow. He makes her drop everything to sleep in her lap as compensation for being in her club. She gets frustrated with him and his laziness and they often have it out for each other about it. Still, she has no choice but to do his bidding. Sometimes he pays her to do his schoolwork. There is a bit of romantic tension between the two due to Leona’s odd way of showing affection. He won’t give her the satisfaction of being upfront about it.
Shinko: Hang out alone together. Since they're both loners, they don't mind being around each other.

Doomed & Stoned Turns Five!
Coinciding with Doomed & Stoned's fifth anniversary, Todd Severin of The Ripple Effect talks to Editor in Chief Billy Goate about this bitchin' lil blog, from its inauspicious beginning in the summer of 2013 as a simple social media platform to bring together lovers of the doom-stoner sound to dabbling in its own music festival, a massive compilation series, podcasting, and of course album reviews and interviews. Touching on both the joys and challenges of coordinating a multinational team of contributors, Billy discusses battles with burnout, the excitement of new discoveries, and the struggle to stay on top of an exponentially mushrooming music scene.

Let's start with the obvious: why Doomed & Stoned?
The name Doomed & Stoned isn't really meant to be edgy, though it does have a nice ring to it. It came to me as a simple way to sum up the heavy vibe that is the heart and soul of our writing: doom metal and stoner rock. I consider those to be the enduring styles of true metal and classic rock 'n' roll, best encapsulated by the music of Black Sabbath. Sabbath played music that was famously downtuned, slow, plodding, and somber, documented so incredibly by those first four albums. Then they had their up-tempo swings that tapped into the feel-good era of the 1970s, "Hole In The Sky" and "The Wizard" comes immediately to mind, as does "Sabbra Cadabra" and a number of songs on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973) -- such a forward-looking album. Black Sabbath is the quintessential doomed and stoned band and it has been, broadly speaking, the stylistic portfolio of music we've decided to hone in on for this venture.

As soon as I was turned on to the doom-stoner vibe, I began to notice things happening into my own backyard of Portland, Oregon. At the time, Oregon’s proudest exports were bands like Witch Mountain, Yob, Lord Dying, Danava, and a handful of others that were being signed left and right to labels like Relapse and Profound Lore. Well, I just started documenting everything, because I felt there was something really special happening here, much as there'd been a magical vibe about our sister city Seattle in the '90s when my family had moved up here from East Texas.
It all began with me showing up randomly at shows and shooting live footage, I believe the first was the Portland Metal Winter Olympics in 2014, then Hoverfest. Initially, no one knew who the hell this guy was showing up with his camera, but gradually I became more accepted by the community, which opened up opportunities for doing interviews, album reviews, and a big 75-band compilation of the Portland scene, which kicked off this massive series of scene comps that many know Doomed & Stoned best for.

What gave you this crazy idea of promoting the scenes to the rest of the world?
Doomed & Stoned originated out of a frustration I had in sharing discoveries like Windhand, Saint Vitus, Sleep, and Goatsnake with my metal friends. Many wouldn’t give these bands a chance or listened for half-a-minute and gave up. Surely, I thought to myself, there must be others out there who were just as in love with the doom-stoner genre as I am. It wasn’t long until I met Melissa Marie in a metal forum. I told her what I was planning, she was down, and together we burrowed in the heavy underground and discovered a whole community there welcoming us. Melissa was my first contributor and along the way, we made acquaintances with aspiring writers and photographers who really caught the vision and volunteered to document their own scenes. She's since become my executive editor and the organizer of our flagship festival in Indianapolis.

Just like that, the Doomed & Stoned team was born. Roman Tamayo joined the team shortly afterwards, now the Editor of Doomed & Stoned Latinoamérica and I started meeting people from all over who wanted to contribute an album review here, a bit of concert footage there. It all happened very naturally and organically, fueled by simple passion, a mutual love of fuzzy, downtuned riffs, and a desire to document the energy and excitement of what we were all witnessing -- Demon Lung in Las Vegas, Orchid in San Francisco, Pale Divine in Pennsylvania, Pilgrim in Rhode Island. It didn't take us long to discover was going on in the rest of the world and it blew our ever-lovin' minds.
With the explosion in blogging and desktop publishing, we gradually discovered there was a loose network of folks covering the doom-stoner scene all over the world, too. Most of them have been very friendly and we’ve even had the opportunity to collaborate with folks like The Sludgelord, Outlaws of the Sun, The Ripple Effect, Invisible Oranges, Revolver, Blabbermouth, and so many more. There are others that wouldn’t acknowledge our existence -- still won't to this day -- I’m guessing because we were viewed as unwelcome competition in an already small market with a tight circle of friendships. The thing is, we never really wanted to compete with anyone; we just wanted an outlet to share our love of music. It’s hard not to be competitive sometimes, of course. Competition can be positive in that it inspires you to push yourself, try new things, and grow.

That said, since none of the 20+ contributors to Doomed & Stoned are doing this full-time, we want ultimately just want to have fun and you can’t enjoy the ride if you’re constantly trying to outdo this site or that. We found our niche in digging into local scenes and telling the stories of the bands who may very well be the next Sleep or Windhand a decade or two into the future.
We're now in the fifth year of our existence and I feel we’re becoming known as people willing to give bands and their local scenes the kind of in-depth coverage they deserve. That speaks to our motto: “Bringing you the music and the stories of the heavy underground, with an emphasis on the Sabbath Sound and local scene coverage -- by the underground, for the underground.”

How has the scene grown and changed in the intervening years?
Well, since those bright-eyed early days, the doom-stoner scene has absolutely exploded. We were lucky enough to time our entry, purely by happenstance, to ride that wave just as it was nearing its crest. Right now, the scene is at least twice as big as it was five years ago and it’s becoming practically impossible to listen to all the new albums coming out, even if we limit the consideration to just doom metal, or even a subgenre of doom like blackened doom or death doom. It becomes a matter of practicality to prioritize those albums that are brought to your attention by PR firms and record labels, but I always remember that some of our greatest discoveries have been unsigned bands.
Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to discover bands like Disenchanter, Holy Grove, Troll, Year of the Cobra, Toke, and dozens of others that have since risen to international prominence. Just to know you were there the moment their demo showed up on Bandcamp. You were among the first to listen to their self-produced CD on the commute to work. You were there to witness them opening for a touring headliner. You wrote their first review. You made that social media post that sparked a fire of interest. You recommended them to one of your overseas blogger pals. All of that is tremendously gratifying to be a part of.

We're all the product of our musical past. What's your musical history? First album you ever bought? First musical epiphany moment? First album that terrified the hell out of you?
I was raised by parents who came of age in the ‘50s and ‘60s, so I was exposed initially to a lot of late-‘60s rock, big band jazz, and later the ‘70s radio pop. Mom was fond of playing three classical music albums with a mix of music by Mozart, Beethoven, and Rossini, and that left a very powerful impression on me early on. She also was fond of Olivia Newton John, so I have “Jolene” permanently etched on my psyche and every so often vainly attempt singing it in the shower.
My first vinyl was the Ghostbusters soundtrack, which dad bought for me, and it unleashed a curiosity for the popular music of the ‘80s. Like a lot of my friends at school, I was nuts about Michael Jackson and I remember asking dad if I could have one of those swank red jackets that he wore so famously in “Thriller” (I was denied, though I did get quite good at grade school moonwalking). I distinctly remember the day my family got cable TV for the first time and with it MTV, which brought the music of Metallica, Boy George, Madonna, Aerosmith, and Run-DMC into our conservative Texas household.
It didn’t last long, because somewhere in the mid-‘80s, my family got caught up in the whole “Satanic Panic” movement. They started monitoring my listening habits vigilantly. One day, for instance, my mom was horrified to find her ten-year-old boy singing along to “Nobody’s Fool” by Cinderella during Casey Kasem’s American Top 40 show. From that point on, both rock and metal were banned from the house and my radio was confiscated. It was too late, though, because I was hooked – particularly by metal. Something about it has always moved me in a way that only classical music has matched. My first metal album, which I purchased in secret, was ‘Appetite for Destruction’ by Guns ‘n’ Roses – which at the time represented the pinnacle of late ‘80s heavy metal. People need to understand how revolutionary it was to hear something that “hard” on mainstream radio and MTV. I listened to it and ‘Lies’ incessantly on my Walkman and continued listening clandestinely to FM hard rock and heavy metal.
Since I couldn’t listen to it openly, I started developing an interest in the darker side of classical music, the moodier pieces by Beethoven, Liszt, and Scriabin, and took up playing the piano around 13. My family was supportive of that talent and I would spend hours and hours a day for years playing the piano in solitude. That was my first introduction, in kernel form, to “doom” – especially late Beethoven, when he started growing deaf and began expressing his frustration and despair more poignantly through dark tones. Franz Liszt, later in life, experienced so much tragedy that he begin to write very bleak, obscure music and was one of the first to experiment with atonality.
It wouldn’t be until my college days that I’d come face-to-face with doom at a Saint Vitus show in Portland. From that moment forward, I knew I’d discovered my soul food. Doom metal made an immediate connection, as it addressed the fucked up nature of life and society in a way that felt authentic to me. It wasn’t just anger. It was dark, slow despair and even a blithe kind of acceptance to it all. It was refreshing to have those feelings mapped out in song like that. That triggered a wave of discovery that led to Usnea, Cough, Pilgrim, Demon Lung, Serpentine Path, Undersmile, and others that are now staples of my musical diet.

What do you see happening in the music scene today, good and bad?
More people are digging to the doom-stoner sound and the scene is growing exponentially. The internet has democratized music in a way that has made it easier than ever for bands to form, record, and share their music. It’s also made it much, much harder for a band to get discovered. We’re simply oversaturated by it all. We’re reaching peak information and many listeners have just stopped exploring altogether. I think there was a study done some years back that said by the late-20’s/early-30’s the average metal listener typically hardens in their musical tastes. I don’t know how true that is still, but I know that I’ve been increasingly suffering from listening fatigue. 2014 was the last year I felt on top of it all. 2015 was explosive and every year since has found me woefully behind in my listening. I’m still digging through the rubble and discovering incredible records that I share now and then in a series of short reviews I call, “Doomed Discoveries.”
Among the trends I’ve seen in our scene in particular is the increase in female-fronted bands (which we tried to document in our compilation, The Enchanter’s Ball) along with more experimentation with genre blending. It’s becoming harder to find bands who traffic in traditional doom, but that’s fine because I think we all needed more diversity in our playlist to keep us from becoming jaded. For a while, it seemed every other band was “witch” this and “black” that. I’m the last person to judge a band by its name, but it was leading to a ton of criticism from fans -- to the point I’d have a hard time getting doom-stoner listeners to take a chance with a newer band that had the word “wizard” in their name. One thing that seems to be a theme of the doom-stoner scene is a continual drive for excellence and evolution. On the negative side, we tend to expect more of our heroes, as a result -- which is why bands like The Sword and Electric Wizard have been criticized for producing music that would have otherwise excited us if they were a brand new band.
youtube
Holy Grove at Hoverfest (Film by Billy Goate)
What's been your all-time greatest "find"? That band you "discovered" before anyone else and started the word spreading?
It’s hard to pinpoint one band, but I’ve been instrumental in boosting the music of Holy Grove, Disenchanter, Troll, and Year of the Cobra -- all bands from out of the Pacific Northwest. Initially they were promoted through Doomed & Stoned and then found their way to small-to-medium sized record labels and festivals. Over half of the bands that played the Vinyl Stage at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in the inaugural year of Psycho Las Vegas were my direct recommendations. Though I was less involved in the following year, Psycho Las Vegas booked most of the bands that appeared at Doomed & Stoned Festival, such as Merlin, Toke, and Youngblood Supercult. It was a huge confidence booster in Doomed & Stoned’s ability to be a “taste tester.” This is not to say our taste in bands has always been picked up by festivals or record labels. The scene is getting bigger and out of necessity bands have to diversify their reach through a multiplicity of media outlets, because you never know who will read that one feature at the right time and dig your sound. Besides, there’s too much music in the doom-stoner subgenre for any one site to cover right now, so there are plenty of great recommendations coming from a number of amazing blogs and webzines.
What's the last album to grab you by the throat and insist you listen?
Definitely ‘Celestial Cemetery’ (2017) by Purple Hill Witch. I was only a nominal fan of their first album, but their second one was quite convincing, emotionally. There’s an underlying sadness to the record that appeals to me as a person who has long battled depression.
Celestial Cemetery by Purple Hill Witch
What's the hardest thing you encounter in promoting shows?
Convincing people that live music is worth leaving the comfort of our homes to experience, to say nothing of many benefits that come from connecting others in the underground music community. These days, we tend to value how conveniently something can be delivered to us. Audio books have replaced the need to sit and read (and collect printed media), our homes have become veritable theaters so no need to go out for movies anymore, and streaming high-definition music makes us feel like we’re in some sense getting the real deal.
Of course, those of us who go out to shows know there’s just no substitute for the excitement, energy, and sound of a well-produced live show, especially in a small venue. This is to say nothing of the community that comes with it. My best friendships in the scene have come about because I chose to breach my comfort zone and venture out to a show, sometimes merely on a whim. With that said, I admit I struggle with convincing myself to go out. It’s the introvert in me, I suppose. However, I have a saying that I try to live by: “Feel the fear and do it anyway.”

Witch Mountain -- first tour with Kayla Dixon (Film by Billy Goate)
If you could write a 1,000 word essay on one song, which one would it be, and why? What makes that song so important?
Funny, I actually did write a 1,000+ word essay on Cough’s “Possession” -- the only song I’ve been moved to write an entire piece about so far. I think it’s because it spoke to me during a time in my life where I was feeling such raw, charged emotion and witnessing a personal transformation from being a happy-go-lucky, easy-going dude, to someone emptied of hope and weighted down by a very nihilistic outlook and pessimistic thinking. This was, in turn, keeping me more closed off from other people, because my trust level was at an all-time low.
I’ve always valued music for its ability to commiserate with me in my circumstances. During Basic Training it was Superunknown and Down on the Upside by Soundgarden. In my college days, it was Alice in Chain’s last album just prior to the death of Layne Staley, which fans nicknamed Tripod. In 2016, Cough returned after a long absence, released Still They Pray, and headlined the first ever Doomed & Stoned Festival in Indianapolis. It was a year of transition for me with a lot of upheaval in my personal life and “Possession” seemed to capture my inner storm perfectly, which inspired me to write a few words about it.
Give us three bands that we need to keep our eyes out for.
White Wail: The grooviest psychedelics this side of Berlin are nested right here in Yob country, my hometown of Eugene, Oregon. White Wail is best described as part-Graveyard, part-Radio Moscow, with a special kind of DIY electricity that has made them hands down one of the most entertaining live acts in the region. Their upcoming second album is going to put them on the map for many people, I predict.
I by White Wail
Reptile Master: Norwegian doom-sludge clan with two guitars, two basses, a drum, and one unhinged vocalist. You’ll find none fiercer. “The Sorcerer’s Weed” (opening number off their first LP, In The Light of a Sinking Sun) is positively frightening. I can feel its seething rage filling up my chest cavity like pneumonia every time I listen to it. I believe they’re expecting a new album out in the first quarter of 2019, if not sooner, and I can't wait!
Chrome Ghost: The ultimate contrast of light and dark come to us from a relatively unknown band in Roseville, California. The secret sauce here involves incredible vocal harmonies pitted against massive, crunchy riffs, something that’s done very effectively in their recent EPs, ‘The Mirror’ (2018) and ‘Reflection Pool’ (2017). Now, they just need to take this show on the road so the world can get better acquainted with them.
Shallows by chrome ghost
Tell us about your personal music collection. Vinyl? CD? What's your prized possession?
People think I have a huge vinyl collection, but mine is quite modest, really. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to have a bigger collection and show it off, but unfortunately, I haven’t a lot of money to put into it, really. My most prized records come from bands I’ve supported from their earliest stages, like Holy Grove, Menin, Soom, or Vokonis. CDs have come to dominate my collection, not so much by choice, but quite a few promos are sent to me that way. Mostly, I have a vast digital collection that takes up almost six terabytes of data. Since I’m doing a lot of podcasting, this allows me the easiest point of access to put together my mixes for The Doomed & Stoned Show.
youtube
BelzebonG at Psycho Las Vegas (Film by Billy Goate)
What is it about this particular type of heavy music that makes it mean so much to you?
To me, doom metal and stoner rock has incredible staying power. It’s something I can listen to over and over again without growing weary of it. Add to that the fact bands in this genre take so much care in crafting their live sound and you can go to any doom-stoner show knowing you’re going to have an incredible time, perhaps even walk away with a better experience than the record gave you. I was constantly disappointed by the concert experiences I had while immersed in mainstream metal. It just never sounded as good as the records did. With doom-stoner music, my experience has largely been that a band's show can, and often does, transcend their studio recordings. It’s just the ethic of our scene; we're fanatical about sound.
Tumblr media
With BelzebonG
What makes it all worthwhile for you?
That's a really good question. My philosophy is that as long as we’re all still having fun, it’s worth it to keep doing Doomed & Stoned. With that said, it can be very demanding and stressful, especially as we’re increasingly turned to by bands, labels, and PR firms to host track and album premieres. The gratification of a piece well done -- whether by me or by one of my team members -- is ultimately what keeps me going day-to-day. I find a lot of joy in developing talent and even helping writers and photographers hone their craft, gain greater name recognition, and develop the confidence to even branch out on their own as freelancers. Several have gotten gigs with larger outlets like Noisey due to their work here and that just blows my mind.
When Melissa first started, she wasn’t confident at all that she could do an interview. Next thing you know, she’s interviewing Wino, negotiating contracts with promoters, booking venues, and organizing a music festival with international acts. I’ve very proud of the team and everyone who has been a part of it, if only for a season. I'd add to that my relationships with growing record labels and ambitious promoters, who I've been able work with to get bands like Tombstones, BelzebonG, Spelljammer, Vokonis, Cardinals Folly over here to play for the first time in the United States.

How would your life be different if you weren't spreading the word about music?
I suppose I’d be spending more time playing the piano, something I’ve neglected more than I’d like to admit since starting Doomed & Stoned. There are some gnarly pieces by Beethoven, Liszt, Scriabin, Godowsky, and Prokofiev that I've half-chewed, just waiting for me pick them back up again. Either way, I don’t think I can stay passively involved in music. I have to be playing it or writing about it, preferably both.

Ever been threatened by a band or a ravenous fan?
No, but I’ve been doggedly pursued on Facebook by overly enthusiastic bands trying to get me to review their albums. What they don’t realize is that I’ve got a very heavy editing backlog -- it takes at least 2 hours and more commonly 4, 6 or even 8 hours –- to prep a feature length piece for publication. To review a record, I need even more time to let it soak in. I have to find something in it that connects with me on an emotional or at least an intellectual level or I can’t write about it. Because of that, I don’t write very many reviews a years. Maybe a half-dozen traditional, track-by-track reviews, though I do try to write at least one short review a week on our Facebook page.
Part of the blessing and the curse of doing this as a hobby, as opposed to full-time, is I don’t have a lot of opportunity to hear gossip, get into interpersonal dramas, know who's not speaking to whom -- that kind of thing. With that said, I really wish I could spend more time responding to every message I receive and developing deeper level friendships. Perhaps in time I will. My work schedule is so packed right now that it’s very hard for me to tear away and just relax and get to know people. On the positive side, it does save me from a lot of inter-scene conflict and allows me to be more of a neutral party when issues arise between bands, venues, promoters, forums, or fans.

In the end, what would you like to have accomplished, or be remembered for?
I’m hoping we can be remembers for documenting this special era in heavy music history. I want to get better at showcasing the bands in their scenes and telling their stories, just like the writers and photographers of the Seattle grunge era were able to capture the imagination of the world with the Nirvana-Soundgarden-AIC-Pearl Jam vibe of that scene in the early-to-mid ‘90s -- what the 1996 documentary Hype! captured so well. I also hope I’ll be remembered for writing interesting, engaging, and relatable music reviews that aren’t pretentious crap. That’s still a work in progress!

Many people may not realize the hours you devote to what you do for little or no pay. Is there a day job? If so, how do you find the balance?
This is most certainly not a day job. I have a full time job that I work 40-50 hours a week and I do Doomed & Stoned in the evenings and weekends. Right now, I’m not doing very good with the balance, to be honest. I’m an unrepentant workaholic, if I’m being honest with myself. That said, every other weekend, my mind and body revolt and refuse to allow me to do anything except sleep or just lay around watching movies or doing normal things like, you know, mowing the lawn. If I could will it, I wouldn't sleep more than four hours a night, hit every show that comes to town, review every new release, put out a podcast every week, edit every article within a few days of it being submitted to me. In other words, I'd manage Doomed & Stoned as if it were a full-scale entertainment website. However, I have to remind myself that I started this to build community and to have fun, so it’s okay to operate on a different model.

What's next? Any new projects?
This year, we’re on a roll with our compilations, thanks to some wonderful organizers who are embedded in their local scenes and are good at rounding up tracks from all the participating bands. We’ve released Doomed & Stoned in Ireland, Doomed & Stoned in Philadelphia, and Doomed & Stoned in New Zealand, Doomed & Stoned in South Africa, Doomed & Stoned in Sweden, and we're coming up on Doomed & Stoned in Deutschland, and our fifth anniversary compilation, Doomed & Stoned in Portland III.
Other than that, we’re in the third year of our flagship festival, Doomed & Stoned Festival, which takes place on October 6th & 7th in Indianapolis. Over the summer, we’ve had two new festivals: Chicago Doomed & Stoned Festival and Ohio Doomed & Stoned Fest. We’ll likely be doing a festival in Portland later in the summer, too, perhaps doing an all-dayer in Eugene, too. These are very much passion projects and we're lucky to break even on them, but the joy of putting on a successful fest that brings together members of the community, that brings bands like Vokonis and Cardinals Folly to the United States for the first time, is totally worth it. This is history in the making. More than that, it's vital therapy for our people -- refueling our storehouses with the power of the Riff!
Tumblr media
Finally, other than the music, what's your other burning passion?
I have cats that I love to death. I’m a fanatical collector of B-movies, from the ‘60s and ‘70s especially –- the more awful the movie is, production wise, the more I delight in it. Probably that has a lot to do with growing up on Mystery Science Theater 3000. When B-movies and cats collide with music, I’m in a very happy place (see the band Gurt!). Also an avid fan of vintage comic books -- many of the narratives of the pre-code 1950s comic books were taking chances that rival many of the shocking storylines of Marvel and DC today. Surprisingly, one of the themes that I see recurring between titles is DOOM! It's a delight every time I discover one of these stories. Art, film, and music have a very important, symbiotic relationship and I find it tremendously gratifying to play historian and trace the threads of the past into the present and watch how they continue to evolve into the future.
I've also got a gang of cats that keep me in line and like to be very involved with the production of Doomed & Stoned, so much so that I've had to make cat beds in front of my monitor and in the drawer of one of my desks for a pair of twins I adopted from the pound some years back. They absolutely are enthralled with that desk of mind, whether I'm editing an article or interviewing someone for a show! Best of all, they love them some doom. They sleep soundly every time I've got the likes of Sea Bastard or Serpentine Path rumbling my speakers. Wouldn't trade 'em for all the vinyl in the world.

“Diablo on the beat, bitch.” Audiences have been listening to that four-word producer tag on some of the hottest tunes of the previous numerous years, by artists like Wifisfuneral, Craig Xen, Smokepurpp, and also, of course, Lil Pump. Los Angeles-by-way-of-Florida producer Diablo, 23, has collaborated with all of these artists as well as even more. Now he’s riding the greatest wave of his profession with the upcoming launch of Pump’s long-awaited Harverd Dropout.
Diablo generated three documents on the album–“ Failure,” “ION,” and the controversial “Shelfs on Shelfs”– as well as recorded Pump’s vocals on more. “Racks on Racks” got some interest lately when Portishead’s Geoff Barrow claimed that the track experienced his work from the Destruction soundtrack without consent. The tune’s material also distressed him. Barrow called the track “deeply fucking sexist,” and included that, particularly since he as well as Annihilation co-composer Ben Salisbury both have daughters, “This crap requires to seriously fuck off.”
Conflict or not, Harverd Failure is the end result of a year and a half of Diablo and Pump’s work together. I contacted Diablo (as well as his manager Henley, that weighed in with the periodic information) to go over the production of Harverd Failure, why the Florida SoundCloud rap scene was destined for success, and what all that difficulty over an uncleared example was about.
In around 12 hours, Harverd Dropout comes out. Which tunes did you create? We were working that task for a long, very long time. I would certainly state for practically a year and a fifty percent. We made a lot of tunes, at least 70. The last variation [of the cd] is the best songs that came out of every little thing. I taped the intro, “Failure.” And also I did “ION,” which is with Smokepurpp. That’s actually me as well as CB [Mix] I also did “Shelfs on Shelfs.”
What was that 18-month period like? What was your procedure? It was a crazy process. From tape-recording him on a moving trip bus, which is really stressful from a manufacturer as well as engineering perspective, to videotaping him when he got on house arrest in the garage while it’s truly cold exterior– that was possibly one of the craziest situations. “Drug Addicts,” I bear in mind specifically tape-recording him while it was incredibly cold in LA. He was in the garage, he was on house apprehension. That was a pretty dope experience.
You engineered tracks that you didn’t create? Yeah, I helped tape most of his stuff.
Tell me regarding tape-recording Lil Pump’s vocals. Is it various than working with other artists? What’s dope regarding taping Pump is that we have really good chemistry, considering that I’ve been tape-recording him for 2 years. It’s actually very easy at this point ‘cause I know specifically what he desires. Me and also CB are his main manufacturers, the major people tape-recording him.
He doesn’t really even like the studio that much. We do a great deal of house setups or established anywhere actually that isn’t a workshop. That’s where we make the majority of our hits. We make bed room hits, generally.
Exactly how do you account for soundproofing if you’re just videotaping anywhere you can obtain him most comfy? Individuals ask me that a whole lot. As long as we have respectable configuration, we do not require that much. If you can get a clear vocal, you don’t need to videotape in a soundproof space. Everything comes down to blending them in the future.
What is an unusual place that you’ve videotaped Pump? The most uncommon one is certainly the garage while he got on house arrest. Other places? Just random Airbnbs around America. I videotaped him in the scenic tour bus while the scenic tour bus is relocating. That was truly busy when it came down to mixing the vocals. My favorite location is my initial house. That’s really where we made “Manager.” That simply went platinum, which is rather cool, just to assume that we made that hit in my bedroom.
There’s been some controversy around “Racks on Racks.” Geoff Barrow claimed that the tune examples his songs from the Destruction soundtrack without approval. Did you sample that soundtrack? We provided a final variation of the tune that did not personify any type of sample. And after that for one reason or another, Detector Brothers provided a demo version of the track that they produce, an old variation, that had a placeholder keeping that sample in it. What you individuals listened to was the old version of that track for some reason. They didn’t publish the last version to iTunes as well as all that stuff. That’s where I think the entire complication came from.
So what takes place now with the track? Which version made it on the album? The final version right now you listen to on all the DSPs has no example in it whatsoever. Not on the YouTube variation, not on any version– SoundCloud, iTunes, Spotify. There is no example in it now.
How did Geoff listen to the very early version? I have no idea. I just saw him tweeting at me on a daily basis. [Henley: “The early version was an accidental upload. That’s exactly how he heard it.”] Yet it was really funny to see him tweeting at me everyday. He would tweet some stuff. I don’t recognize just how old he is, but I assume he was perplexed, 'cause he was tweeting that the track was misogynistic and all this things. He was like, “Oh, there’s rapping regarding titties.” Like, I think he believed “racks” was titties. I’m like, “Guy, I don’t understand just how old you are, however it’s not discussing titties. It’s talking about cash.” I assume there’s a great deal of confusion in the entire scenario.
His words were, “The song is deeply fucking sexist.” That’s not something you agree with? I don’t know, man. He’s very opinionated. I appreciate the individual a lot, but also, begun, take a look at Cardi B. She simply won a Grammy for Rap Cd of the Year and her things isn’t the most deep songs. She has some crazy things in there. I think you should appreciate everybody’s music and look into the musician a lot more prior to you simply begin slamming left as well as right, you recognize?
Do you make beats for Pump in different ways than you would certainly for other musicians? Well, yeah. I seem like my beats have their very own personality, and that’s why Pump actually appreciates my style of songs. I do not know any type of various other producer that actually makes beats like I do, that style of extremely bass heavy as well as likewise sometimes repetitive. But Lil Pump gets your focus and it ends up being actually good for him, 'cause it’s like, “Oh, trendy, I know a dope tune that would certainly opt for this.” Then it ends up being an actually dope tune.
Do you believe the bass hefty facet of your beats originates from Florida? Florida has a 35, 40 year history of bass songs. Yeah. We absolutely developed this wave of lo-fi heavy bass songs that we weren’t credited on. It’s unusual, 'cause Atlanta gets such large hype, but I seem like Florida didn’t obtain sufficient love and also press for all these artists that we put out the last number of years. We really transformed the whole SoundCloud game, the whole music video game. We have all these brand-new rap artists that are absolutely affected by us. We created a new style of music.
A couple of years ago, you began creating for a bunch of people you recognize from institution or around where you made use of to live in Florida. And after that they all blow up around the same time– individuals like Wifisfuneral and also Smokepurpp and also Pump. What was that like for you? I believe it was fate. I actually mosted likely to college with Wifisfuneral. He is one of the initial rap artists in West Palm Beach that I linked up with to make music. We mosted likely to primary school together. We really did not socialize until later on, when we were both in senior high school. He wished to record music and I occurred to simply develop a studio in my space where I tape-recorded Pump. We ended up functioning and afterwards I was like, “Oh, male, I enjoy hip jump.” He made many beats, 50 beats a month during that time.
I wound up linking up with Florida musicians as they were coming up, like Pump. This is when they all were nothing, like, under 30K [fans] Everybody was simply starting. It’s actually insane to see where everybody is. 2 years ago, we were all refraining from doing shit.
What was Lil Pump like when you individuals first satisfied? Pump is a fascinating one, 'cause he’s precisely just how he is now, but just now he has a shit ton more loan. When I fulfilled him, I thought we coincided age and after that I discovered that he was 15. I resembled, “What the fuck?” He was currently smoking more Backwoods than I ever could.
You stated the track “Boss” previously. Are we ever gon na listen to the initial version of “Boss” concerning Obama? Wait, exactly how do you also know that? That’s so weird.
It’s sort of like the initial version of “Boss.” That’s when we remained in our bags, making songs nonstop. The track is actually on YouTube. It’s just called “Obama.” It’s an old variation of that design of songs that we were taping at the time. It’s actually amusing.
Among the important things you do is excursion doing solo DJ collections. What do you like about that? Just how is that various than being a producer? My first goal was intending to be a producer/DJ and also place on my very own live programs with my visuals as well as my songs. But I was concentrated on dealing with my songs first– working on tasks as well as things. I devoted two years to dealing with rap music with as many artists as I can. Currently I’m ended up.
Honestly, I took most of my time with Pump, 'cause he tapes a lot of music. Currently there’s a cd coming out. It’s dope, 'cause I can concentrate on my cd that I’m putting out, which is featuring Pump, Purpp, a bunch of various other artists.
And afterwards with the DJing component of it, now I can play real-time shows, play my songs, and highlight these hip jump musicians that I’ve collaborated with. That’s actually what I’m trying to include in the EDM globe.
In 2014 you spoke about entering into EDM. That’s a wave you get on? Yeah. I have songs with Dillon Francis, I have songs with Alison Heaven. I have collaborations with a great deal of EDM artists. I’m dealing with placing them out this year as well as doing even more celebrations and programs.
What’s a Diablo solo set like? Actually extreme, really dope. A lot of hip jump, a great deal of bass hefty music. Now, I’m practically finished with touring. It’s been terrific, the reaction I’ve been getting for my online programs. I’m truly thrilled to simply maintain doing this and construct it larger and bigger. I have a whole lot more followers than I assumed I did.
Any kind of prospective day on the solo album? I’m aiming for March. Now that I’m done concentrating on everybody else’s album, after I’m made with this excursion, I’m back residence. Then I’m simply settling down, just dealing with this cd and wrapping up whatever. [Henley: “Allow’s call it May, to be more precise.”] That are you on tour with now? Dillon Francis as well as Alison Paradise.
Exactly how’s that going? It’s going fantastic, guy. We have actually been striking a lot of cities, a lot of big shows. We did a program with 8,000 individuals. That was rather dope. It’s really an enjoyable experience, from doing hip-hop programs and events to bringing that style to the digital scene.
Anything else you desire people to learn about Diablo? Yeah. I’m just excited to do my own things and also end up being a solo act, doing at my own festivals and producing my album this year. Stay tuned.

Stay tuned.

The Homecoming: Continental cross-over pt9.
[An excerpt from the Discord server ; detailing the experiences from the various attendees to arrive.
Happy-Yesterday at 9:20 PM
* No. No you're not doing it for my sake or my boyfriend's sake. NO No no no no no no no.... and fucking no. Happy's annoyed tone is clear again. He looks at Johnny with pure disappointment written on his face.
 * Pal, what you're basically telling us, is that where we live is inferior to this place because it has it's own fucking problems. Sure yeah pal. We live in shitty places. My hell is MY personal hell, because it's partly my fault in the first place it's like that.
 * AND YEAH I GREW USED TO IT. ITS MY HOME. Of course I would, but at least I'm making it better for me. Now don't get me wrong here pal, I love sight seeing and maybe taking a vacation or two away from the house and get a breather from a dead timeline but you know, there's nothing like home.  And I'd rather be the rat hiding in it's cage it's gotten so used to than to be the rat that got thrown into unknown territory for it's "own good" because that’s the "natural" habitat only for it to be EATEN THE FUCK ALIVE because of the lack of understanding of the place.
 * And don't you DARE tell me or anyone else that we'll "get fucking used to it", pal. I've been isolated from any contact of anyone for years pal. It's only been what... a year and some months since I've been able to get into this timeline business? Do you think I'm truly used to any of those changes? Pal, do you really think a bunch of monsters are gonna enjoy being whisked away from their lives and what they are comfortable with? Do you really think separating people from their human friends is going to help them either?
 * Stop being a dumbass, pal. That ain't gonna bring a happily ever after, it's just gonna have a lot of people pissed off at you. He was grinning through his teeth. That smile was made out of pure annoyance and anger.
Samga
The flower's speech made the Rabbit pause as he leaned over sideways to peek out at Happy's schpiel, and then he let out an exasperated whistle. "Sounds like you've made somebody mad Johnnyboy.."
Sela
"You're putting us in the same position you were once in, dumbass." to Alpha
Revak
* Not only that, but you're putting thousands, if not MILLIONS in that same position.
Happy
* THERE WE GO. RIGHT THERE. THE POINT. THE POINT RIGHT THERE.
Samga
Samga continues his stroll all the way up to Johnny's side, "Look, Johnny, I getcha, you wanna protect us and keep us safe but c'mon, get over yourself, what makes you think any of this is gonna make us safer--- Let alone happy?!"
He leans against Johnny's leg. "How about you get offa your lil' high horse, put us all back where you got us from, and we can put this whole thing behind us! It'd save us alott’a trouble I'll tell ya that much!"
Sela
Sela isn't sure if she wants to smack Johnny for his behavior, Samga for what he just did just now, or herself for getting mixed up in this.
Paul
...Frankly, while Paul hadn't expected Samga to show up, the nonchalant behaviour and...Tone showing that they undermined it had practically made his whole body turn white, jaw becoming slack.
Revak
[Revak just kinda... scowls at the newcomer. This kid was bound to get hurt pulling something like that.]
Samga
Samga takes another bite out of his haunch of meat, cleaning the bone of its last remaining succulent contents and leans the cartoonishly large bone over his shoulder, "Take it from someone who's seen people go through similar situations like yours, it doesn't end well for them."
Sela
"Samga, you fucking idiot, stop being water on hot oil." Says the demoness about to blow a fuse.
Lilith
[* Lilith meanwhile is.. only half ignoring the newcomer. Good percentage of her attention is pointed at her 'friend' at the moment, but she's hearing some reasonable things. Her wristflames have almost become jet engine fires at this point.]
Corrupt
[Oh. He'd Blanked and Zoned out. There was Lots of Yelling, Yes. And Now a Bunny Who Seemed Cool. Who is being Yelled at by the Purple Demoness.] [It's Quite Loud.] [Guess That Meant a Fight was Soon to Break out. That was Nice.]
Samga
"And what, you guys were doing any better at getting through to him?!"
Lilith
"Mind you we have been trying, rabbit." [* She's crabby.]
Revak
* Oh don't you fucking start, bunny boy, we tried our damn hardest, and look where it fucking got us? [Yeah, someone probably shouldn't poke the many bears in the room at the moment.]
Samga
"Yeah, still stuck out here."
Happy
* Hey. Can you shut the fuck up, pal? This is me not asking you, but telling you. Just shut your fucking mouth. Nobody needs your ass- in fact where the hell did you even come from?
Samga
"Well I fell into a city, grabbed a bite to eat, saw this giant towering colosseum and figured there was somethin' fishy goin' on up here, then I find Johnny who looks like he's hit the fertilizer a lil' too hard and a whole buncha other familiar faces! Then I sat by for a bit while I ate my snack and saw you were basically talking to a brick wall."
"All in all, feels like a tuesday to me.."
AlphaJohnny
The titan's monitor soon darkens, relaying their words...Closely. They just didn't understand. Frankly, he needed to realize...You can't change opinions, whether it be them agreeing or working things through. However...During his internal conflict, he had failed to notice the rising aggravation throughout the group. Until finally, the reddened eyes of the titan would soon come back into focus, or rather, their gaze was now directed at Samga.
Before there was even a moment to allow them their moment of debauchery that the rabbit was suddenly yanked, in the matter of Johnny snatching them up while ignoring the audible squeak coming from Samga.
"...Insolent pest." Were the only words before he was violently tossed away as if he treated them like garbage, causing the rabbit to crash into a wall with...Quite the force apparently, judging by the spider webbed cracks left upon impact.
It was all clear to him. A 'Crash course' was required. From there, as he took in the fact they continued to deny his...Will, that he had honestly gotten fed up by now.
"...You know what? Fine. I get a power boost, simple as that but when I emphasize what's better here on out. You all see it as a bad thing."
"And You all think I'm insane? Great, that's just pretty damn dandy when I could say the same for all of you. Just goes to show that you all remain ignorant for the dangers to come." Soon after stating this, Johnny begins his slow trek towards the group, a menacing scowl creases over his mouth - the titan's luminous monitor glowing brightly ; brows furrowed in absolute intensity to show the lack of empathy he held. Truly, this was a massive difference compared to what Johnny had been previously.
"If you're willin' to try and go back to that terrible place, then be my guest. I'll let you all know I'm gonna be callin' the shots. If I have to show you an example of those 'people' then so be it."
Johnny has begun to exhibit dangerous intentions and it seems talking will not work. From here on out, you'll have to be careful.
The fight for freedom has begun.
