☆◞: IM ALWAYS JUST A DOOR AWAY ✧ SPENCER REID
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SPENCER REID X FEM READER
SUMMARY: when you moved in to your new apartment, you never imagined your neighbor, spencer reid, would be such a nightmare. he wasn’t your favorite guy. in fact, you hated him. unfortunately for you, you can never seem to escape him. the universe clearly has other plans for you two.
WARNINGS: mentions of alcohol and alcohol consumption in some chapters, angsty, arguing, spencer is kind of (definitely) an asshole, kissing, cursing, somewhat darker plot points as story progresses (this is my first ever full story fanfic! so it might be bad…) this will also be 10 parts so yayyy
GENRE: enemies to lovers, fluff, angst
⋆·˚ ༘ *
chapter 1 : a nightmare..
✎Was it even possible to hate someone so much that even the thought of them made your blood boil?
You never thought that was even possible. You were always trying to see the best in people, even if they were rude to you. That all changed when you moved next door to Spencer Reid.
Spencer Reid
The bane of your existence.
You had moved into your first apartment alone, with the help of your parents loaning some money and your waitressing job, when you had the unpleasant experience of meeting him.
God, he was so stuck up and pretentious. Getting to know him might have been your biggest regret.
The first day you met him, he immediately gave you an attitude.
You weren’t all that familiar with this area, so you took it upon yourself to try and make friends with the neighbors.
As you walk up to the door and knock, you become excited at the potential of a new friendship.
Behind the door, you can hear a quiet, muffled voice and some shuffling before it’s opened to reveal a rather tall man looking down at you.
“Yes?” He sounded a bit annoyed, yet you continued your introduction.
“Hi, I’m your new neighbor! My name is-“
“Cool, I’m really busy, and if it isn’t important, don’t bother me.” The man quickly shuts the door.
You were so puzzled and quite upset.
Who just shuts the door on someone’s face like that?
-‘๑’-
However, after some time, you forgave it. Everyone has bad days; everyone is very busy at some point. Maybe he was just overwhelmed, right?
That was until you saw him again, in the parking lot of the apartments.
You found out his name was Spencer Reid from some other neighbors. This only made you more interested in getting to know him, or at least being civil with each other.
You were getting out of your car after returning home from work when you saw him coming down the stairs to the parking lot. Trying to be friendly, you waved and smiled.
“Hello!” Your expression was bright and kind, as always. Something Spencer never seemed to return. He visibly rolled his eyes at you, rushing to his car.
Did I do something wrong? Did I say something to offend him? Do I have something stuck in my teeth
Your thoughts ran wild, doubting every interaction you have had with anyone before. Were you just annoying? You barely had a conversation with the man; how could he find you annoying?
Maybe he just sucked?
-‘๑’-
For months, your interactions were the same. You’d attempt to be friendly, and he’d quickly (and quite rudely) shut you down. You had convinced yourself he was just a busy man until you were proven right. He just sucked.
Friday, 10:49 pm
Music played throughout your living room as you unwinded on your couch. The weekend had just begun, so you decided to finally relax. Work had been extra shitty today, and you felt you deserved a break. You sat on your couch, reading a book, as your favorite songs played when you heard a knock at the door.
Who could be knocking so late?
Placing your book down and quickly turning the music off, you rush to answer the door.
As it opened, you'd never been more confused to see Spencer Reid standing in front of you.
“Uh, hi? Is something wro-”
“Can you turn the music down?” He seemingly snaps, not even letting you finish your sentence.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to have it so lo-”
“If you’re going to blare your music, you shouldn’t have such terrible taste.”
You were taken aback. You were used to the interruptions, the eye rolling, even being completely ignored. But now, he was just being plain rude.
“What? I said I’m sorry.. What’s your problem?”
You were almost about to snap at him. It took all of your power to not rip into him, calling him every name you could think of.
“My problem? My problem is that ever since you moved here, I can’t get even a moment of peace. Some people have jobs and commitments.”
What the actual fuck?
“Holy shit, Spencer. I’ve done nothing to you, but all you’ve done is be an asshole to me!”
Your anger and frustration seemed to boil over in that exact moment, not caring if you hurt his feelings anymore.
“Actu-”
“No, let me talk for once. I don’t know where you work or what you do to make you think you are so morally superior to me, but fuck. You are so fucking mean.“
He seemed shocked at the sudden outburst, as you only ever showed him your bright and bubbly side. His eyes widened slightly, not expecting the blow-up.
“You don’t get to talk down to me because you’re in a pissy mood. So leave me the fuck alone.”
With that, you slam your door in his face and quickly turn around. Your fists clench as you storm to your room and flop onto your bed, letting out a groan of frustration.
God, he was a nightmare.

₊˚╰ 𖣠 MERCY ✧.* SPENCER REID
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SUMMARY: During one of the most detrimental and devastating outbreaks this world has ever seen, the BAU had spent countless hours trying to bring in the man responsible, dead or alive. When they seek help from a minacious mercenary, and personal feelings somehow get involved, the situation quickly becomes much more complicated and difficult than anticipated.
GENERAL WARNING: ANGSTY and horror (somewhat), weapons, violence, descriptions of viruses and diseases, death, kissing of course, zombie like creatures, apocalypse, outbreak, descriptions of mutations
CHAPTER WARNING: descriptions of violence and viruses, reader is kinda an asshole. THIS CHAPTER MAY SEEM BORING BUT PLS the story will get interesting as it progresses! just gotta explain the basic concept!
A/N: the first chapter, yay! this is clearly inspired by resident evil (my fav game series). i thought it’d be interesting and unique to combine my two fav hyperfixations. i made the virus names and effects, and im clearly not a scientist so if they are scientifically inaccurate ignore it or im gonna cry. also, I wrote this with early spencer in mind (3-5) but if you imagine him from a different season lmk! ALSO sorry if any of the writing is bad, my english is terrible!
ACCOMPANYING SONG : SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT, NIRVANA
. . .
CHAPTER 1
January 15th, 2009
- 985 days since the outbreak
You had been caught. You had finally been caught.
Of course, you were well aware of the risks that came with being a mercenary, being caught was one of them. Yet, this didn’t diminish the anger you felt, sitting in a dingy, dark interrogation room, cuffed to a table.
It felt as if days passed by. Your eyelids felt heavy, you couldn’t manage to find a comfortable position to rest in. A metal folding chair would quickly prove to be a poor place to even attempt to relax in. Sitting in silence for so long, your ears could perfectly hear the buzzing of the flickering bulb above you, and it drove you crazy.
Just before you could drive yourself insane, focusing on each bothersome aspect of the interrogation room once more, the door opened.
Two men, two entirely different vibes.
One was an older, tall, stoic man wearing a suit practically devoid of color.
And while the man that stood beside him wasn’t wearing the most colorful outfit, his blue shirt and purple tie were a stark contrast to the other man’s outfit.
His long, wavy brown hair stood out as well. A part of you wanted to just stare at him, he was so pretty. But the other part of you, the majority of you, wanted to knock both officers unconscious and attempt to run away.
“I’m Unit Chief Aaron Hotchner, this is Special Agent Dr. Spencer Reid. We’re with the Behavioral Analysis Unit.” The older man explained as both of them took a seat across from you.
The words practically went unnoticed by you, your mind had been more focused on the discomfort caused by the tight cuffs around your wrists. Your eyes met Hotchner's, and he could tell exactly what you were feeling.
Angry.
“Wanna take these cuffs off?” You request.
“I’m afraid I can’t do that until you cooperate with us and give us the information we need.”
“What information?”
Your eyes naturally rolled, gradually growing more annoyed by the second. Even with how frustrated you were, you weren’t going to cooperate easily. You were a mercenary, and the FBI was well aware you had only ever been motivated by payment.
It sounded selfish to everyone else. It was selfish, but to you, it was the only way to survive.
Hotch extracts papers and files from a manila folder, spreading them out onto the table in front of you. Your eyes watched his hands as he displayed each paper for you.
“For the past seven months, me and my team have been observing your every move.” Hotch’s eyes are glued to you. “Several times in these past months, you’ve been employed by Luca Ansaldo.”
The name has been drilled into your ears by this point.
Luca Ansaldo, a wealthy, ‘brillitant’ virologist and CEO of the virology company SynX. And, unbeknownst to you, the creator of the Lazarus Virus.
Ansaldo had employed you many times before, and with the pay being more than generous for a seemingly easy job, you didn’t think twice about accepting his offer.
But now, just hearing his name was enough to enrage you. Yet, you remain calm, returning Hotch’s eye contact. You barely even noticed Reid beside him, merely observing the interaction between you and Hotch.
“He paid me well for a simple job, is that what you wanted to hear?” You mutter.
You knew that wasn’t what they wanted to hear, but you also couldn’t tell what they wanted.
The past officers that had come in, aggressively interrogating you, never made it clear what exactly they wanted from you. All you could really understand was that they wanted his whereabouts, and you couldn’t tell them that. You didn’t even know.
“What jobs did he pay you for?” Hotch inquires.
“Easy jobs. I’ve done that plenty of times before for others, why does it matter now?”
Hotchner adjusts in his seat, probably finding it just as uncomfortable as you were in that moment.
“It’s important because we’re not currently after the other individuals you’ve worked for, we’re after Ansaldo.” He explains, sliding a document toward you.
Your eyes quickly scan the words on the paper, taking in all of its details.
“Under SynX, Ansaldo has managed to manufacture one of the deadliest viruses known to man, the Lazarus virus. You can see the results of his work walking in the streets.”
“Lazarus Virus?” You question. “Like, from the Bible?”
You clearly knew about the outbreak, every human did. You just had never been able to put a name to the virus responsible.
Reid took this question as an opportunity to share every bit of knowledge he had about the virus.
“Yes, actually. The name derives from Lazarus of Bethany, mentioned in the Gospel of John. The story claims Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, only four days after his death.” He hadn’t even noticed your eyes locked on him as he rambled. “We believe the virus attacks the brain stem, destroying the brain's basic functions. However, while mental capabilities deteriorate, physical capabilities are enhanced, explaining why they’re rather strong and violent. Those infected by the virus are called ‘Revenants’.”
You couldn’t help but be impressed at his ability to speak for so long without even losing his breath. He had spit out each word with urgency, as if he had been waiting to share this information with you.
“You seem to know a lot about the virus, why am I here?”
“We don’t know enough.” Hotch replies. “Without a sample of the virus, we won’t be able to produce an effective antidote. Ansaldo is currently the only man we know of that has any samples, and you know more about him than any of us. You may be our only chance at finding him before it’s too late.”
He leans forward, an even more intense stare accompanying his statement.
For a moment, for a brief moment, you allow yourself to absorb his words. It was as if a switch flipped in your brain, allowing yourself to prioritize others before yourself.
And again, this sounded so incredibly selfish. You could recognize that, of course. But you couldn’t blame yourself. And quite frankly, neither could Hotch or Reid.
The outbreak was and is devastating. Major cities were overrun and filled with chaos, with millions dead or missing. Trusting people wasn’t as common as it was years ago. Especially for you. You had been alone, fighting to survive, for years. It was all to protect yourself. You had the right to protect yourself, right?
“How much?” Hotch’s words bring your attention back to him, back to the situation you were in.
You weren’t sure if you misheard or misunderstood him, and it seemed as if Reid shared that same thought. His eyes widened as he snapped his head towards Hotch, questioning him with his eyes. Hotch, however, doesn’t even seem to notice Reid’s shock.
“What?” You stutter just a bit, clearly confused.
“How much do we need to pay you for your cooperation?” He repeats.
“You want to pay me to work for you?” You reply, skeptical about the offer.
Reid visibly shared the same sentiment. It was as if he couldn’t close his mouth. You didn't expect this, and neither did he.
“You are the closest connection we have to Ansaldo.” Hotch ignores the shocked faces of you and Reid, “If we have to pay you for your cooperation, then we are willing to do that.”
His expression shows that he’s serious. You consider the offer a bit longer before spitting out the first number you can think of.
“Two hundred thousand.”
You wait for any change in his expression, you wait for him to simply refuse. But he never does.
“We can arrange that.” He gives you a small nod before rising from his chair, Reid following. “I will assign an agent to keep an eye on you. You will be kept under supervision at all times as you work alongside my team. If you even attempt to betray our agreement, I promise you will not see a single dollar.”
“Wait.” You blurt out before they can even make their way to the door. “Can I choose what agent gets to follow me around?”
The way you word it makes it sound like a privilege, like it was an honor to have to watch over you. In reality, it most likely wasn’t.
The FBI considered you a dangerous, difficult mercenary. Asking you for help was a last resort, one they tried to avoid. But as they watched the virus spread across the country, unable to stop it, they knew they had no other choice.
“Do you have an agent in mind?” Hotch raises an eyebrow, confused by your question.
You nod in response, your eyes landing on Reid.
You couldn’t explain why, but his quiet, shy demeanor drew you to him. He wasn’t standoffish like the other officers and agents, he was actually quite the opposite of you.
Reid furrows his eyebrows. Neither he nor Hotch had expected the request; their looks expressed that. Hotch looks over at Reid, as if he were contemplating whether he could handle such a job. It was a silent conversation between the two; you were just an observer in that moment.
“Reid will watch over you as you work the case with us.” Hotch proclaims.
“Hotch, are you sure?” Reid whispers, just loud enough for you to hear him. He sounds nervous as he speaks, causing you to smirk.
“If she causes any problems for you, I will assign a different agent for the job.” Hotch responds, going for the door. His hand lands on the door knob, twisting it and pulling the door open with Reid behind him.
“Can you take these cuffs off me?”
Hotch and Reid turn their attention towards you once again before Reid digs in his pocket, pulling out a set of keys. Hotch watches as Reid walks over to you.
Your gaze remained fixed on Reid as he fumbled with the keys. You observed his shakey hands, finding all of it almost humorous.
When he finally managed to remove the cuffs, he let out a breath he hadn’t known he was holding in.
You stand up from your seat, rubbing your wrists where the cuffs had previously been.
“Thank you so much.” You say with a teasing, playful tone.
His eyes never meet yours as he steps back, allowing you to stretch, glad to be free from the metal chair you were held down to.
“The team is gathering to discuss our next steps in the case. You’ll be joining us, since you’re working alongside us now.”
He explains the situation quickly as he leads you out of the room, still avoiding any eye contact.
“Exciting.” A smirk was still plastered on your face as you walked behind Reid.
While Reid was more nervous about the situation, and you clearly found it amusing, there was one thing the two of you had in common at the moment.
You had no idea what you were getting into.

chapter 2 : it’s dr. reid
✎ It has been a couple weeks since you blew up at Spencer, and not much has changed. Well, except for your attitude towards him.
You never smiled or waved at him. In fact, if he even glanced at you, you’d quickly roll your eyes before he got the chance.
As you sat in the back at your work, counting tips, you couldn’t help but think about how much you hated him.
God, he’s so stuck up.
He doesn’t even know me.
Wearing a vest doesn’t make you any better than me or anyo-
"(Y/N), are you okay?”
Your coworker (and closest friend), Liv, interrupts your thoughts. She stared at you with a subtle hint of confusion. You hadn’t even realized you'd been zoned out or that you’d been slamming down the cash on the table.
You and Liv met when you first began working here. She was possibly the happiest person you know, and the kindest. She always listened to you ramble about anything, whether it was a stupid hobby, a rude customer, or even the most mundane story about your week.
“Um yeah. Just some problems..” You weren’t even sure how to answer her. Bringing up the situation made you even more furious.
However, Liv became a bit more concerned with this answer.
“Oh no! What’s wrong? Family troubles, a boy?”
You breathe in deeply, trying to suppress the anger building up again before you start talking.
“It’s just... my neighbor.”
Liv leans on the table you sat at, obviously interested in what you have to say. “Go on…”
Her saying that immediately gave your mind the confirmation it needed to go ahead with your rant.
“Well, when I moved in, I wanted to greet him. I don’t know, trying to be neighborly and whatnot, like one does. But.. like..”
You rub your face with your hands. It became clear to you that talking about this would anger you no matter what, so why not just get it over with?
“He’s such a jerk. Like, he interrupted me when I tried to say hello. He even slammed the door in my face.”
Your friend's eyes widen, leaning more towards you, showing her interest. Honestly, even if she wasn’t showing any care whatsoever, the words would’ve kept spewing out regardless. You needed to get this off your chest.
“Oh, and he showed up at my door, telling me to turn my music down. I have no problem with that, but in the same breath, he tells me how I have terrible taste. He said, 'Some of us have jobs and commitments', or whatever bullshit he said to me. Like oh I’m sorry, I never knew because I don’t also work my ass off!”
Your voice gradually became louder, yet you weren’t quite yelling. All Liv does is nod softly, almost as if she knew how much anger and frustration built up inside of you.
“And I live next to him, I can’t avoid him. He’s like the plague! Maybe during the apartment tour, the realtor could’ve been kind enough to give me a heads-up! Maybe like, ‘Oh, by the way, the neighbor is insanely rude and pretentious, so maybe avoid him if you can’, I dunno!”
“Jesus, (Y/N), I’m sorry.” Liv quickly says. Venting to your friend calmed you down a bit, but you were still visibly annoyed.
“It’s fine… It’s not... whatever.” Your body slumps into the chair, the tip money you were previously counting still spread in front of you.
“Let’s go out tonight. You and me!” Liv suggests happily.
The idea sounds nice, but you haven’t been out in what feels like forever. When you moved, you left all of your dresses and more risqué clothing behind to make the move easier. I mean, you didn’t even think you’d have a reason to go out of the house.
“Liv, thanks for the attempt at helping, but I haven’t gone out in so long. I don’t even have going-out clothes.”
"Well, you’re in luck, sweets! I have tons of going-out clothes, or whatever you call them. When I’m out in a couple hours. Finish counting your tips, go home, shower, and I’ll pick you up. No ifs, ands, or buts. See ya!"
With that, she smiles sweetly at you and hurries off, going to serve another table fast enough so you can’t say no to the plans she made. You let out a small huff, seeing no way out of this.
And Liv was nice; what harm could going out with her do?
You gather the cash and stuff it into an envelope, sliding it into your purse and gathering the rest of your belongings. Untying your apron and setting it down, you exit the restaurant through the back and make your way to your car.
Please let tonight be a good one.
-‘๑’-
“Choose an outfit, any outfit!”
Liv displayed all her dresses for you to choose from on her bed. She had picked you up a couple hours prior, and the two of you had been talking for a while before getting ready.
You straightened your hair and did a smokey makeup look, something you hadn’t done in a while.
The dress selection was quite impressive, but a simple short, sparkly black dress stood out to you the most. You pick it up and show Liv your choice.
“Ooooh, skimpy, yet simple. I like!” Liv said, smiling from ear to ear.
“Go put it on!”
She eagerly pushes you into the bathroom to change, shutting the door behind you.
Slipping the clothes on and staring at yourself in the mirror, you felt insanely confident. Since you hadn’t been out in so long, you forgot how fun it was to get dressed up.
Stepping out of the bathroom and into the room where Liv went to change, she audibly gasped upon seeing you.
“Jesus (Y/N), you look hot!”
A giggle escapes your lips as you look down at the yourself and smile at her.
“I might have to steal this dress, I like them too much.”
“I’d pay you to keep it, you look good.”
The comment made you blush slightly as your friend continued to compliment you.
“Alright, I'm ready. Let’s go!”
The two of you order a cab and head to the club. The thought of Spencer Reid is nowhere in your mind.
-‘๑’-
As you arrive at the club, you can already tell it’s quite full. Just upon entering, you see tons of people dancing and drinking—even a drunk girl spilling her drinks all over herself as her friends quickly try to clean her up.
Liv grabs your arm, dragging you up to the bar in a matter of seconds. It seemed so fast; you hadn’t even noticed she ordered you two drinks.
“Two tequila shots, two waters, and two limes, thank you!” Liv orders from the bartender. He nods and heads off to grab you guys your drinks.
“Starting off strong?” You say this, laughing softly.
“Of course! I want you to have a good night, (Y/N). It’ll be fun, trust me!"
Liv smiled softly at you as she grabbed the salt on the counter, seeing the bartender come back with the shots.
“Here you go. Enjoy, ladies.”
The both of you nod as the bartender steps away, helping others with their drinks. You lick the back of your hand and sprinkle salt on it before grabbing the shot and throwing it back.
It burned slightly, going down your throat, and you winced a bit. Quickly licking the salt off your hands and sucking on the lime, you can’t help but shake a little bit. It’s been so long since you’ve even consumed any sort of alcohol, so this shot felt incredibly strong to you.
"Jesus, I forgot how much I hate tequila.” You say, clearing your throat a bit. You grab your water and take a sip as Liv laughs, seemingly having had no reaction to the shot.
“Welcome back to drinking, huh?” She jokes, which makes you both laugh a little.
-‘๑’-
As the night goes on, the two of you dance and drink more, progressively becoming drunker. The shots began going down like water; a lime wasn’t needed to help anymore.
As you and Liv danced together, you decided to get more shots. Liv was clearly having too much fun to get off the dance floor right away, so you made the sacrifice to step off and grab them.
“I’ll go grab us some more shots; you just stay here.” You say to her, words slurring as you walk over to the bar. You lean on the bar to order more shots, hoping to make them your last ones as you get more and more tired.
The bar was full, so the bartender wasn’t going to tend to you right away. As you take a seat to help you have some sort of balance, you become aware of the presence of someone behind you. Assuming it was Liv, you snap your head to look at the person.
No fucking way
It seemed like you could never escape the nightmare that is Spencer Reid.
"Holy shit, Reid... are you stalking me?” You say this, looking up at the tall man. If your words didn’t indicate how drunk you were, your face did. Your eyes were heavy, and your face was slightly flushed red.
“Stalking you? I wouldn’t even if I was paid.” He states, making you roll your eyes.
“I don’t know what karmic debt I have to pay off, but it sure is hell seeing you everywhere I go.”
The words coming out of your mouth were so slurred, it made him chuckle. This made you roll your eyes again, annoyed at everything he did.
“I’m not particularly pleased to see you either." He answers, not even looking down at you as he scans the bar.
“And besides, you’re not the only one allowed to go out. I’m here with some work friends, not for you. They’re all just too drunk to hold a conversation…”
You laugh slightly as you tilt your head. “You don’t drink”
“No, not really. Can’t say the same can you? Try not to clear out the alcohol…”
Of course he had to throw in a snarky comment quickly. Even if it wasn’t normally seen as rude, coming from him was a different story.
“I’m leaving anyway.. have a.. nice night… or whatever.” You reply swiftly, forgetting the shots you planned to order and hopping out of your seat. You stagger a few steps away before feeling his hand wrap around your forearm, quickly stopping you.
“Wait, how are you getting home? You can’t drive like this.”
It almost felt like you couldn’t roll your eyes anymore than you have. You turn your head to look at him, your hair falling in front of your face.
“Don’t pretend to care.. where.. I’m going." Your words seemed to take forever to get out; you just wanted to get as far away as possible in that moment.
“Just because I don’t like you at all doesn’t mean I’m going to let you be in possibly dangerous situations. Especially in this state..." His eyes didn’t seem angry at that moment; they were just worried. It almost felt foreign to see him not roll his eyes back at you. It shocked you.
“How are you getting home?" Spencer’s voice is a lot more stern this time, startling you a bit. You never expected him, of all people, to care.
"Well, mister Reid…”
“It’s Dr.” He corrects you.
“Whatever.. me and my friend… Liv… will get a cab home. Any other questions?"
When he doesn’t respond right away, you think that’s the end of the interaction. When you attempt to slip your arm out of his grasp, he only tightens his grip a bit more. Not hurting you, but stopping you from walking away.
“I- I don’t think that’s very safe. I’ll give you guys a ride.”
Usually you’d argue and protest, but he seemed too serious to even try. And besides, you’d rather get a free ride than pay for one.
“Whatever..” You begrudgingly agree, pulling your arm away to go get your friend. Liv is easily pulled off the dance floor this time as you explain the situation. She holds onto your arms as you exit the club behind Spencer. It was obvious she had many more drinks than you; you could’ve looked a little sober next to her.
"Hello, sir, thank you for the ride.” She says to Spencer, her words are barely comprehensible. Spencer just nods, not really understanding what she said.
You walk to Spencer’s car with Liv on your arm, then softly help her into the backseat, buckling her up. She was laughing and giggling as you did so, not paying much attention to Spencer at all.
"Please, please, please don’t throw up in my car.” You hear him talk to himself as he walks to the driver's side door and gets in.
As you get in the front seat beside Spencer, you look around at the interior of the car. It was completely clean; there was not a speck of dirt in sight.
“Huh, is the car new?” You ask, turning your head to face him. He shook his head as he stuck the keys in the ignition, starting the vehicle.
“No. I just don’t drive much. I don’t like to, I usually take the train or have a coworker drive me. Can you give me your guys addresses?”
You nod, telling him both addresses, seeing as Liv was too inebriated to say much. The car begins to move, and you lay your head back to stare out the window. Watching the world pass by was calming; you even began to drift off a little.
Suddenly, the car stops.
“We’re at Livs.” He almost whispers. You lift your head up and look around before getting out of the car. You still had pretty bad balance, but better than Liv’s, who had passed out by now. Spencer gets out as well and helps you hoist Liv out of the backseat.
“How much did you guys drink?” He asks, referencing how drunk your friend was. The two of you begin walking to the door of her house.
“Not a lot, just... a lot..” You joke, laughing at your own stupidity.
“I wouldn’t do that. Alcohol causes 13 percent of deaths among-“
“Boooorinnng.” You interrupt. He presses his lips together as you two reach the door. You dig through the purse Liv had on her shoulder and fish her keys out, quickly unlocking the door and pushing it open.
“I’ll go put her to bed.” You say, dragging Liv off Spencer’s shoulders and to her room. She is easily carried, being quite light. As you reach her room, you set her down on the bed and take her purse off her shoulder, placing the keys beside it on her dresser. She didn’t really respond much, but you did hear her softly snoring as you laid her down.
As you shut the lights off and exit the house, you see Spencer waiting on the sidewalk for you.
“Come on, I’m tired.”
You walk to the car and get it again, buckling up quickly.
As you begin driving, he suddenly begins talking to you.
“I never took you as someone to go out at all.”
“Dr. Reid, you don’t know me at all.”
Saying this makes you realize, you don’t know him either. I mean, he was annoying, yes, but what did he do? What did he like? Were his interests as painstakingly pretentious as he was? You grew curious, then quickly grew confused as to why you were curious at all.
When he laughs at your comment, you immediately snap out of your head. “I do know you’re a pain in the ass.”
“You’re not exactly a dream either, believe me.”
You go back to staring out the window, waiting for the car to finally park in front of your apartment.
When it finally does, you get out as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, Spencer is right behind you.
“Stop following me, weirdo.” You comment as you walk in front of him, refusing to turn around.
"Sorry, princess, but in case you forgot, I’m your neighbor.”
You groan at this comment as you both reach your apartment doors. You were already so irritated and tired that you couldn’t bear another snarky comment or remark from him. Opening your door, you look at him and nod.
“Good night, Dr. Reid.” Your tone was sassy, yet jokey. He rolled his eyes and smiled at you, lifting his hand to wave goodbye. Before he can reply or say anything, you shut the door.
You made him smile.
He smiled cause of you?
Why did you care so much that he smiled? Shouldn’t that annoy you? Maybe you were just too drunk to function properly. You shake the thoughts off and slip into more comfortable clothes, quickly jumping into bed and falling asleep. Maybe tomorrow you’ll be thinking straight…

chapter 3 : hangover
✎ Your head was pounding when you woke up; you felt as if it would explode. You sat up in bed and held your head for a couple minutes before remembering last night.
It almost felt like he was glued to your side, always there to be an asshole. You groan as you recall all of the events of last night.
Your hands fumble to find your phone to text Liv, making sure she was alright and telling her everything that happened last night. She was incredibly excited to have finally met the infamous neighbor of yours, not remembering much about him, before telling you she was going back to sleep since her headache was unbearable.
Even though you didn’t like him, you wanted to thank him for the ride. Maybe this will smooth things over. You get up and throw your hair into a claw clip, not caring that you were still in your pajamas.
You walk over to his apartment and knock on the door, not knowing how you expect him to react. He answered pretty quickly, dressed and ready for the day, as always.
“What?” His rude answer didn’t phase you, at least not anymore. It used to upset you, of course. But now, you were so used to it that if he said ‘hello’, you would’ve asked what’s wrong.
"I just wanted to thank you for the ride last night. You didn’t have to take me and Liv home, but you did so.. Thanks."
Being nice to him felt very vulnerable; he would almost always respond rudely. This time was no exception.
"Yeah, yeah, sure. You’re welcome.” He quickly responds. A moment of silence is shared among the two of you before anyone says anything.
“Do you need something, or are you just being annoying?”
You roll your eyes, unsure of why you were there anymore.
"No, I just thought I'd thank you and be nice. Remind me to never do that again.” You were incredibly annoyed. Spencer Reid plus a migraine was the worst combination anyone could ask for. He scoffs and quickly shuts his door. You groan again, stomping back into your apartment and slamming the door behind you.
You were mad at yourself for trying to thank him; you felt ridiculous. Even with such a simple thing as thanking him, he’d find a way to be rude.
You lay on your couch, still exhausted from the previous night, and your bed seemed too far away. As you lay, your eyes grow heavier, drifting off back to sleep. Maybe a nap could help ease the frustration.
This would prove to be useless, waking up to loud music blaring from next door.
How ironic, as it was coming from no other than Spencer Reid’s apartment.
The rage in your body seemingly built in an instant as you sat up and stormed out of your apartment, right to his door. You ended up knocking harder than you intended to, but you really didn’t care.
How come he thinks he can blast music, but when I do it, it’s a problem?
It takes a while for the door to swing open. You hear two voices behind the door, yet you don't think anything of it until Spencer opens the door, a blonde woman sitting on the couch behind him.
She started at you from her place on the couch, and you even felt yourself staring back at her, speechless, shocked.
“What do you need?" His voice was soft yet clearly annoyed, probably not wanting to be rude to you in front of his date or whoever this was.
You stammer for a bit, flustered, even a little jealous. You’ve never been so confused; why were you jealous of her? Shouldn’t you feel sorry for her?
“Jesus, (Y/N) spit it out.” His voice cuts through your thoughts, and you look up at him, remembering why you were even here. Seeing the girl made you angrier than you were before.
“Jesus Spencer, turn the damn music down! Bringing home some girl isn’t an excuse to blare your terrible music into everyone else’s apartments.”
He smiled at you, almost teasing in a way. “What, are you jealous?”
“Jealous, of what, her? If she could shed, she would probably be sending an SOS to get away from  you.
With that being said, you turn around and storm home. You didn’t want to hear what other comments he had, and you didn’t know why you were so upset.
The music turned down, but you were still angry. What the hell was wrong with you?
You buried your hands in your head, desperate to forget whatever was happening.
Never have you ever wished so desperately to be able to erase your memories.
