He's never had reason to question himself.

His life has always been one of structure—of discipline, of quiet expectation, of learning exactly who he was meant to be and how to wear that identity with ease. He was never the loudest in the room, never the most daring, but he’s always been steady. Dependable. The perfect student. The perfect friend. The perfect son.

But lately, he wonders if that’s all he is.

It’s subtle, at first. The way people’s gazes linger for a second too long, like they’re waiting for him to say something—to remember something. The way conversations cut off when he walks into a room, leaving behind only that tense, charged silence.

The way his magic—once predictable, once second nature—sometimes crackles against his fingertips like a stranger.

And the dreams. God, the dreams.

Flickering glimpses of something he doesn’t understand—of fire licking at his skin but never burning, of shadows curling around his limbs like an embrace instead of a threat. Of a voice he’s never heard before, calling out to him in a language he doesn’t know but somehow understands.

He wakes up feeling like he’s lost something. Like he’s missing something.

But that’s ridiculous, isn’t it?

He knows who he is.

Doesn’t he?

It should be simple—his life has always been simple. But lately, the certainty that once steadied him feels… brittle. Fragile, like glass waiting for the wrong pressure to make it shatter.

And worst of all—no one will tell him why.

So he carries on, like he always does. He pushes it down, ignores the questions curling at the edges of his thoughts, convinces himself that the pieces will fall into place eventually. That there’s no reason to feel like something is missing.

But deep down, in the quiet spaces between certainty and doubt, he can’t shake the feeling that the truth isn’t just being hidden from him.

It’s been stolen.
