there's construction outside my window and my brain interpreted that to give me a dream that the rapture was going on. i dont know anything about scripture but i somehow came up with a whole thing. the righteous would transform into anthropomorphic half-lizard half-junglecat half-human things over the course of around 24 hours and then disappear, and all the while there was some frightening banging from the sky as if the foundations of the world were coming down. so i was trying to navigate what was gonna happen after this, and what it was was that there was this exact same house in 12 different locales, and i was making my way from one to another not on purpose but just in the course of trying to live my life. i was meeting different friends at each one and eventually had to start suspecting them of wanting to endanger me because night was coming and we were scared. the first house was in a construction desert and the next one was in the suburbs, and i was on my way to the third house, suspecting my friend who i also am attracted to irl, of betraying me to some evil forces, when i woke up. all in all it sure did feel biblical

Curses, Nicknames, and Sayings

I was thinking about how Warriors only has stuff like "fox dung" as a curse and barely even that, so! more culture for the Wayward colonies! (Under a cut 'cause it's long).

(warrior cats fans, if you see this, feel free to use any of these I would lose my shit over it [/positive])

Diminutives and Nicknames

Kitten nicknames! (...the only kind I have right now, lol)

- "little minnow" (Islandcats)

- "glacier" for a slow or calm kitten and "flurry" for a wild one (Mountaincats)

- "mouseling", especially for the smaller kittens (Forestcats)

- "mossball" (Marshcats)

- "hawkchick", especially for fiercer kittens (Grasscats)

- "songbird", especially for noisier kittens (Junglecats)

- "tumbleweed" (Sandcats)

These are a sign of closeness, and kind of ties the kitten to the speaker; to use one for a kitten that isn't yours is kind of like claiming them as a nibling. Usually they're used only for young kittens (0-3 months old), but sometimes older kittens (including trainees) will have them used, like having your parent to tuck you in after you've stopped needing that every night.

Curses and insults

Curses, listed from foulest to mildest! And also specified if they're universal (or at least, all the colonies use them) or colony-specific.

- "woundrot" (universal), only used when kittens aren't around. Considered the worst curse the colonies have.

- "maggot-taken" (universal), this one's milder but still bad. Like "shit" or "damn". A kitten who uses it would probably get lightly cuffed over the ears for swearing, but that's about it.

- "may the vultures take you" (Sandcats), used for cats you hate. I could see Tigerclaw having this used on him, for example.

- "riptide(s)" (Islandcats), decently mild but still technically a swear yknow? like "crap".

- "brambles"/"thorn in my nest" (Forestcats), "stoneskid"/"stone in my pad" (Mountaincats), "duneslide"/"sand in my eyes" (Sandcats), "rabbit hole"/"tunnel fall" (Grasscats), "vine tangle"/"mulchfall" (Junglecats), "tides"/"windwaves" (Islandcats), "quicksand"/"mud on my paws" (Marshcats)

The above are all along the lines of "oh frick" in terms of severity, and all related to traversal or things that would make movement difficult. Often used either alone ("Brambles!") or with an "oh" at the beginning ("Oh, brambles!").

Insults

- "half-named" (universal), used for trainees who are adult-aged but still don't have their adult name.

- "softpawed" (Mountaincats), implying that the cat is unfit for the mountains as their paws are too soft for the rock.

- "thorn-tongued" (Forestcats), used for cats who only have mean things to say.

- "directionless" (semi-universal, Grasscats), used for cats who can't find their way in tunnels. Later picked up by the other colonies, who just use it for cats who are prone to getting lost.

- "feather-furred" (Islandcats), used for cats whose fur holds the water and makes them sodden and heavy. Implies that they're not fit for swimming.

Sayings/Expressions

Just general phrases or words that you'll see cats of the colonies use.

- "I can see the rain in their eyes" (Forestcats), used to mean the cat spoken of reminds the speaker of a deceased cat. References their belief that dead cats live in rain.

- "[name] of the marsh" (Marshcats), a formality; clearly stating their allegiance and homeland. Not used in casual conversation.

- "the windless grass is shifting" (Grasscats), a saying that means "this gives me the creeps". If the grass is moving and there is no wind, that means something else is causing the grass to move.

- "agave's fire" (Sandcats), a term used for especially bright sunsets/sunrises. From the name of their founder and god, and her power of withstanding extreme heat.
