What's funny is that folks thought we were playing games. With the recent reveal that King Grayskull, the source of the Power for He-Man, is a Black man with locs.... the void of representation of Black Heroes within super accessible properties is filling a bit. This isn't a trend or an agenda. This is what it looks like when IPs reflect its fandom...not just one sect of it. . . @fitnessbysutton has been my right hand in my endeavor to get @Mattel and @fisherprice to alter their toy lines to reflect all children as opposed to just one demographic of kids. My thinking is if you inundate kids with imagery of all shades of color, those who grow up to be Police or Judges will be a bit slower on pulling that trigger or putting a knee on someone's neck. We're getting there but I feel like Ricard and myself have applied pressure via our cosplay, @afropunk panel, #JuneteenthEvent and continued actions to raise awareness of what's necessary for effective changed behavior. . . @oliverbanksart of #ArtMonkeyAnimation has joined the fight by partnering with us to bring PSAs that will be accessible for ALL children but specifically the Black youth who sorely need the imagery of Heroes they can stand behind and with. They've been holding us down by validating our existence in the face of those who say we don't matter... its time we return the favor. Our Kickstarter for these PSAs begins August 1....$1,000 per 30 seconds of animation. Our goal is to get at least 1 out and if we get more, we'll make more. . . I often think about why I did Kratos as my first cosplay back in 2017. Then why I would want to do it again but with the Golden Fleece. Being a recognizable conduit for unfamiliar deities has always been the role for the Ghost of Sparta. To tell a story that broadens the horizons of many. There's never been a cosplay that I've done without a purpose... and I want to keep it that way. . . I've now gotten to the point where I put others on and a crap ton of people in the world will see them... whether it's been @menshealthmag or through @headnerdsincharge ... the world is now aware of people they wouldn't have been if it weren't for folks trusting me to handle their images with care and professionalism. We've got a long way to go but I trust the people who trust me and who have held me down over these last 4 years. And we will bring the culture along with us, kicking and screaming, if we have to. . . Lately.... I've been feeling that feeling of victory for the accomplishments made by so many people due to their efforts and i am just thankful for them all. That comment is strange to me because in my mind, there's no other way I'd have it until he can speak to his own choices. I may not have been cosplaying until 2017 but I've been of the "initiated" since 1987 where I can remember watching VHS dubbed tapes of what you all call "classics" now. . . It's in my son's blood to be a Blerd. And this is where he'll know he can be free to express that side of himself freely and without judgement. I'm not forcing anything on him... in the future, he'll simply know that he's done it, did it well and will always have a choice to stunt with his daddy. . . I feel like I've got to put these thoughts and emotions into words for the benefit of not only myself... but for those who may need that push to make a right as opposed to a left. And for those who can't tell what's genuine and what's performative... i've had to learn myself that children.. especially toddlers... can't lie. If my son didn't bond with me on a certain level.... there's no way I'd be able to HALF of what's in this video. I worked for his trust. I earned it. Because I love him the way I do, nothing I go through in this community will change that... good, bad or indifferent. And I think he knows that. . . In partnership with @oliverbanksart of #ArtMonkeyAnimation....I will be launching a #Kickstarter campaign to fund at least 5 30 second PSAs for children in the classic 80s era fashion. These PSAs will address the very relevant and present troubles that plague children of color.... all in an effort to help guide those difficult conversations with their parents. . . This is a proof of concept so that you'll have an idea as to how it'll all look. In the coming weeks, I'll be detailing more and more of the Kickstarter so that when it comes time to launch, you'll know exactly what you'll get, how you'll be a part of it and what's to come thereafter. . .
