The Boys | I know, I know, the hook is great and the series is supposed to be amazing, but I’ve seen the very first scene and did not expect it 🙈 it really shocked me so I might need a while to get over it.

Law and Order SVU | I have tried watching it but I cannot stomach it

My favourite monologue of all time? Jane the Virgin, season 5 episode 1.

It is the most breathtaking monologue I've ever seen. From the raw emotions, the way Gina Rodriguez delivered it (perfection) and how the scene was shot... It is a work of art. It shows just how much talent Rodriguez has, and it shows that the people who wrote, directed and produced this scene are incredibly talented as well.

Unsurprisingly, this this not a singular opinion. I was googling "Jane the Virgin That monologue" and found many great articles on the greatness that it is. For example, this one by Kathryn VanArendonk and Maria Elena Fernandez for Vulture, or this one, by Linda Maleh for Forbes. All three authors captured the magnificent essence of the monologue and give a lot of background information. And: both articles are soooo amazingly well written!! (Almost as if the people who wrote it get paid for writing...)

I just re-watched the season finale of Arrested Development's season 4 and once again came to the conclusion that the last shot of the episode is one of my favourite episode endings of all time. (One day, there's going to be a list, but not today)

Alright, here are the reasons why:

The entire scene, or well, the finale of the final scene, is perfection. First of all, George Michael punching his father Michael in the face came as such a surprise to me, I gasped (loudly!) the first time I saw it. While leading up to this moment throughout the entire series, it stated a definite turning point - or a point of no return - for their father-son relationship.

Secondly, the seconds that showed them both reacting afterwards. Looking at each other surprised and not surprised, remorseful yet not remorseful at the same time, without saying anything. Meanwhile I (the viewer) am freaking out because George Michael just punched his father. George Michael! The kindest of the Bluths! He punched (!) his. own. father.

And then came the cherry on top, the icing on the cake, the flower patels on the mini-cupcakes: Boomerang by Lucy Schwartz starts. The first beats are powerful and fit the scene perfectly, the song itself is uplifting and sounds like summer (for me at least) and with it, the end credits roll.

Overall, it was as funny and unexpected as Arrested Development can get, and added a certain sense of an actually impactful conflict into the upcoming season.
