I used to love the way he towered over me. That's was until I dreaded the way he towered over me. There's yet to be a lifetime in which I've had the chance to tower over him. Well physically per say. There had been many a time, in which I've been beyond his reach but there has and seems that there will always the pull. The invisible tether that neither one of us has ever been able to rip, break, trample, unknot, cut or even simple tightrope across. It is our ultimate duality, funny thing that we both push and pull against our ingrained commitment phobia. Perhaps we can now agree that that particular character flaw is more nurture than nature. Since we continue to fall back to earth like gravitys bitches. Hence we forrrrrrrggggggeeeeeet. "We're trapped"

Juliet. "8. A kiss on an injury my muse gave to yours". Because it happened. Almost twice. You know it did, hohoho.

She remembered. The memory was so clear in her head… Like it happened the night before. Like a dream, so vivid and real it could only be a vision. It was sometimes the case in her family. Her mother always said… That when a dream brushed reality so, it was destined to happen, even if it wasn’t always obvious how, or when, or why. She didn’t know, for sure.

But she remembered. The weight of another body in her bed, a foreign presence, hazy and strange and brilliant. Breaking through her nightmare of fire and fallen moons… A feather-light touch, warm against the cool skin of her hand. It didn’t wake her up at first. She had been so spent, so tired… She could have slept for a century, and still wished for more. It was so, that her sharp senses didn’t notice the woman by her side at first.

She remembered feeling weak. Huddled up between the sheets, lethargic and defenseless like a child. She remembered… Slurred words telling the woman to stop, to leave her alone, asleep and forgotten. She remembered falling into slumber right after…

She remembered Juliet, her friend, biting her in her sleep.

It didn’t hurt much. The au ra had tasted her fair share of pain in her life, and that was far less than the sting of steel in her side, or the claws of cold and sickness around her throat. It was but a small wound… Open, bleeding red blood and radiant aether. It was only… Only a small…

It was betrayal, still.

It had felt like that. Nissa didn’t understand why Juliet had harmed her, why all her effort to reach the hyur’s frozen heart were being lost… Wasted.

That night, Nissa had screamed at her. “What’s wrong with you?!”, she had said, recoiling and sheething, leaping to her dagger drawn to her delicate, porcelain neck. Plenty. There was plenty of wrong... With the both of them, in fact. The night had ended without clear answers, with Juliet fainting after the fact, unable or unwilling to talk about it after. Why did she sneak into her room that night? Why did she continue to do so, every time Nissa felt tired, her aether in the verge of stagnation? The au ra started to fear her once friend… At least, until the last night. They fought, not with blades or magic, but with words. It was enough: At dawn… Juliet wasn’t there. Never to return, her dawn-like light lost in the horizon.

Yes, she remembered… That it could have been other way.

Nissa was a thief by trade, but sometimes��� She wished something had been stolen from her that night. A kiss, perhaps? Soft lips easing the pain, the whisper of white magic closing that wound in her hand, never to be remembered. She had learned to like being restored that way… It felt good, as if, for an instant, everything was just alright. Everything was safe and warm. Juliet had made her feel that way… And not only with her healing magic.

Even now, lost as she was to her… Trust broken, questions unanswered, room empty. Even now, part of Nissa still wished for that kind gesture. For being corresponded in the affection she had shown, trying to bring friendship to someone who considered herself a heartless monster. Just to be used, manipulated… And then, abandoned when she finally said no.

It could have been other way. Any other way.

Be it an explanation… Or that kiss that would never happen. Be it that presence again in her bed, or the brush of slender fingers wiping the blood away. Be it an apology or silence… Any, all other ways could have been better than just losing Juliet, never to meet her again.

So Nissa could only remember. Remember the wound, remember the hope for that kiss… And wish for her once friend, to be well.
