WHO: Juliana León & Rhodes Iverson (@anhedcnias) WHERE: Rhodes' apartment complex
It was amazing how people could spend their days so differently. some individuals spend their whole day tucked away in bed, while others distract themselves with work from dusk 'til dawn. Juliana was a member of the second group. She liked to have her days busy, and though working as an ER nurse and executioner helped with that, she still itched to fill the leftover hours in between.
That's why she occasionally found herself babysitting RHODES IVERSON'S daughter, Goldie. She didn't even care about the money--- being able to distract herself from the horrors of her other jobs by playing with an adorable toddler was payment enough. Tonight, though, wasn't an actual babysitting job. Tonight was just a casual catch up between Juliana and Rhodes.
She was giddy with excitement. Juliana didn't have too many friends, so this was a much needed escape from her daily life. As soon as the door opened, she practically fell through the open door. Steadying herself on the wall, Juliana weakly held up the bottle of rose she purchased on her way here. ❝I promise I haven't drank this without you.❞ She glanced around the apartment, trying to find a familiar set of eyes. ❝Where's Goldie? I wanted to give her a big hug. I feel like I haven't seen you two in ages.❞

a sapphic lit primer 🌸
also known as, an opportunity to insist you read my favourites
if you’ve ever found yourself wanting to read more sapphic books, but not quite sure where to start, let this be the post for you! if you’re looking for even more sapphic books, i hope you find something in here too.
there are a few books on here i’ve not read, that i wanted to include to raise awareness of them, more than anything. those are marked by *. as such, you will probably also see a fair few more well known books and authors missed off (but i promise i know about them!).
this is not meant to be at all exhaustive! it’s a collection of sapphic books that i’ve read and would rec, meaning there are still tons more out there. & you can find some of those more at @sapphicreadsdb, readsrainbow (which i co-run with @tenderpotter), sapphiclitbot on twitter & my list of every sapphic book i’ve read.
as ever, this was meant to be a relatively short post. haha.
(i promise i did put links on this post, but for some reason those aren’t working on the blog page. dashboard version seems fine, i think.)

How healthy are the flat faced cats the rescues have? Juliana seems to have less of a muzzle than even most pugs I've seen. How in the world can some of those flat faced cata even breathe? (Not trying to imply anything about the quality of care they're receiving! Just holy hell, some of the babies yall have look like someone hit them in the face with a frying pan)
They’re all rescues for a reason, tbh, and a lot of that is health related. Julianna does NOT deal well with the heat due to her flat face, and Goldie has the worst breathing of the bunch. It’s not just about the flatness of the faces; Goldie barely has any nostrils. They’re little tiny slits, so any amount of excess stress or over-exercise makes her wheeze. Clipping her is a nightmare.
Mac is the best off of the flat-faced muppets. He’s still very active and can regulate heat well.

juliana's comfort movies
updated: 15.06.2021.
dead poets society (1989)
main actors: robert sean leonard, ethan hawke, robin williams
short summary (imdb): "maverick teacher john keating uses poetry to embolden his boarding school students to new heights of self-expression."
why i love it (in a few words): incredible actors, loveable scenes, heartbreakingly good performance, perfectly written lines, i love robin williams, dark academia aesthetic, full of adorable (and attractive) characters
hacksaw ridge (2016)
main actors: andrew garfield, sam worthington, luke bracey, vince vaughn
short summary (imdb): "world war ii american army medic desmond t. doss, who served during the battle of okinawa, refuses to kill people, and becomes the first man in american history to receive the medal of honor without firing a shot."
why i love it (in a few words): incredible actors, ww2 movie, true story, inspiring and breathtaking, really graphic (this can be a warning as well)
little women (2019)
main actors: saoirse ronan, timothée chalamet, emma watson, florence pugh
short summary: "jo march reflects back and forth on her life, telling the beloved story of the march sisters - four young women, each determined to live life on her own terms."
why i love it (in a few words): the aesthetic, so many incredible actors, i love this story (loved the novel and the original movie too), somehow it's so relatable, i absolutely adore greta gerwig
good will hunting (1997)
main actors: matt damon, robin williams, ben affleck, stellan skarsgård
short summary (imdb): "will hunting, a janitor at m.i.t., has a gift for mathematics, but needs help from a psychologist to find direction in his life."
why i love it (in a few words): i love matt and ben and i'm so impressed that they wrote this whole thing so young, inspiring, somehow relatable even though i'm not a math genius, the aesthetic, the actors' performance oh my, as i already said i absolutely adore robin williams, young matt damon looks breathtaking (sorry not sorry)
the godfather i & ii (1972, 1974)
main actors: al pacino, james caan, robert de niro, robert duvall
short summaries (imdb): "an organized crime dynasty's aging patriarch transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son." and "the early life and career of vito corleone in 1920s new york city is portrayed, while his son, michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate."
why i love it (in a few words): for some reason i have a thing for mob things, i love al pacino (phenomenal acting talent, pretty attractive), this one's a true classic, literally oldie but goldie
dunkirk (2017)
main actors: fionn whitehead, mark rylance, tom hardy, harry styles
short summary (imdb): "allied soldiers from belgium, the british commonwealth and empire, and france are surrounded by the german army and evacuated during a fierce battle in world war ii."
why i love it (in a few words): i love christopher nolan's movies, ww2 movie, perfectly written script with all the needed things, so many amazing actors and characters, the cinematography
memo (2016)
main actors: tamás lengyel, áron molnár, péter haumann
short summary (imdb): "an ambitious psychiatrist is researching a strange and unique mental state: hypermnesia, just so he could help his amnesic father. when he finds a patient with hypermnesia, he decides to take him out of the mental hospital at his own risk and study him. an unusual relationship is formed between the two men, which starts to endanger the doctor's career, his marriage and even the patient himself."
why i love it (in a few words): it's one of the few hungarian movies that i truly love, amazing actors that i love so much, such interesting story, could watch whenever and endless amount of times
back to the future i, ii & iii (1985, 1989, 1990)
main actors: michael j. fox, christopher lloyd, lea thompson
short summaries (imdb): "marty mcfly, a 17-year-old high school student, is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-traveling delorean invented by his close friend, the eccentric scientist doc brown." and "after visiting 2015, marty must repeat his visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985...without interfering with his first trip." and "stranded in 1955, marty learns about the death of doc brown in 1885 and must travel back in time to save him. with no fuel readily available for the delorean, the two must figure how to escape the old west before doc is murdered."
why i love it (in a few words): could watch endless amount of times, i love michael j. fox and christopher lloyd, they are perfect for these roles, it's funny interesting and so enjoyable, time travel
when harry met sally (1989)
main actors: billy crystal, meg ryan, carrie fisher
short summary (wikipedia): "the story follows the title characters from the time they meet in chicago just before sharing a cross-country drive, through twelve years of chance encounters in new york city. the film raises the question: can men and women ever just be friends?"
why i love it (in a few words): so much fun to watch, honestly though somehow it's so fanfic like, these two actors oh my, this is the standard of romantic movies, it set the bar to high so no romcom ever could reach it, oen of my favourite romantic movies ever
about time (2013)

short summary (imdb): "at the age of 21, tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. his decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think."
why i love it (in a few words): i love domhnall and rachel SO MUCH, bill nighy is in it and he's phenomenal, this is such an interesting concept, it makes me think and try to live my life with a more positive mindset, this is my other favourite romantic movie ever, it makes me feel so happy whenever i watch it, time travel

two households, both alike in dignity/in fair verona, where we lay our scene/from ancient grudge break to new mutiny/where civil blood makes civil hands unclean
𝑽𝑬𝑹𝑶𝑵𝑨: on the outskirts of the nevada desert, rests the small town of verona. two rival gangs have threaded a fragile peace for the last twenty years. the blood shed in their last conflict still washes verona’s streets. the strife has given space to romance, as the heirs of both gangs have secretly fallen in love with each other and plan to run away together so they can finally live without their parents’ grudge surrounding them. with juliana castillo and roman medina presumably missing, a war brews in the belly of verona once again and the repetition of the massacre committed twenty years ago looms over the town.
𝙇𝙊𝙎 𝘾𝙊𝘽𝙍𝘼𝙎: the east side gang, commanded by gustavo medina (though many would say it is actually his wife, luciana, who makes the moves). they are known to be the most violent gang in verona and only the worst of the worst are amongst their ranks. they have a monopoly on drugs and entertainment. many would say that the cobras came out as the big winners of the last conflict between the gangs.
𝙀𝙇 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝘾𝙇𝘼𝙑𝙀: the west side gang, commanded by martin castillo. martin is the younger brother of the late valentin, one of the many casualties of the conflict twenty years ago. the conclave is more strategic than their east side counterparts, and martin prefers to think rationally and clearly before making the next move. they are responsible for weapons and networking. the town’s citizens may think el conclave lost the last war, but they still believe in the organization’s power, as they have stayed strong for over fifty years in verona.
tl;dr: a gang discord verse, loosely based on baz luhrmann’s romeo + juliet.
application:
( faceclaim. gender. pronouns ) 𝙻𝙾𝙰𝙳𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙵𝙸𝙻𝙴… first last is a age in letters year old occupation, they have been described as +trait and -trait. they are reminiscent of 2-3 aesthetics, which has aided them many times in gang name. ( ooc alias. age. timezone. pronouns. )
possible occupations:
drug dealers, escorts, assassins, gunners (soldiers for the two gangs), weapon dealers, night club workers, corrupt law enforcement members, getaway drivers, underground racers and underground fighters.
guidelines:
no godmodding and no ooc drama. open to mutuals. muns and muses must be 21+, respecting the five year age bend rule for fcs. you’re allowed up to two muses, and it is encouraged for them to be diverse.
mun slots (9/12):

We Asked 10 Bartenders: What’s the Most Underrated Vodka?
Vodka’s place behind the bar and on liquor store shelves is insurmountable. Sales of the versatile spirit are steadily on the rise, comprising the highest volume of any spirit in the U.S.
Most recently, sales volume for vodka sat at more than 74 million 9-liter cases in 2019. That compares with fewer than 70 million cases in 2016.
Despite some vodkas’ reputations as flavorless, interchangeable mixers, some bottles are actually well worth seeking out. Below, bartenders from across the U.S. share which vodkas get them excited about the category, including vodkas made from a range of ingredients, from wheat and corn to raw honey and pears.
“Such a hard question! I’m going to go with my favorite which is Founding Spirits Vodka made here in D.C. I think Founding Spirits is still finding their way into their spot among many great brands and I believe their vodka is of very high quality. It has a great mouthfeel with very very subtle notes of fresh vanilla and lemon peel.” — Kapri Robinson, Bartender, Reliable Tavern, Washington, D.C.
“Ida Graves out of Alexandria, Minn., makes a vodka with raw local honey that is delightfully creamy and floral. It’s seasonal, so if you see a bottle, grab it!” — Megan Luedtke, Bartender, Martina, Minneapolis
“Cinco Vodka, out of San Antonio. While I’m not a huge vodka drinker, experiencing a blind tasting with Cinco, Grey Goose, and Ketel One I was shocked to find that I picked Cinco. It is made with 100 percent U.S.-grown wheat and [is] extremely smooth, and you just don’t hear much about Cinco. The distillation process mimics the European style of these other big names. Their hammered copper kettle is beautiful.” — Sarah Rahl, Bar Manager, Goldie’s at Austin Proper Hotel, Austin, Tex.
“The most underrated vodka, in my opinion, is Beluga Vodka from Siberia. I especially like their Transatlantic Vodka, which is rested for 45 days and filtered four times through charcoal, silver, sand, and cotton. Beluga is expertly made with great thought, history, and science. It has a clean, crisp taste. It’s definitely worth a try.” — Juyoung Kang, Lead Bartender, The Dorsey in The Venetian Resort and Hotel, Las Vegas
“We make a lot of vodka Martinis at Highlands, but one of the most versatile, affordable, and least-called vodkas we have behind our bar is Russian Standard Platinum. It’s made to be smooth enough for sipping neat, but its citrus notes work extremely well as the base for our Beaune Cocktail with lemon and Lucien Jacob Cassis.” — Juliana Campbell, Bartender, Highlands Bar & Grill, Birmingham, Ala.
“The most underrated vodka is Wheatley vodka, from the Buffalo Trace Distillery by Harlen Wheatley. This small-batch vodka is distilled 10 times, triple-filtered, and bottled at 82 proof. There is an oily and pleasant mouthfeel with hints of creamy vanilla. This is hands-down one of the most easy-to-drink vodkas on the market that I feel should get more love.” — Harry Chin, Bar Director, Here’s Looking at You, Los Angeles
“St. George All Purpose Vodka, for me, is the most underrated vodka. Distilled from a blend of Bartlett pears and a neutral grain spirit, it provides a soft and silky full-bodied vodka. Like its name, this vodka literally serves all purposes behind the bar and at home.” — Westin Galleymore, Spirits Director, Underbelly Hospitality, Houston
“The most underrated vodka is Nue. It’s a small-batch vodka, made from corn and distilled in Austin, Tex. Unlike Tito’s which is now mass produced and no longer made in Texas, Nue stays true to their tagline and also happens to be quite tasty! The price point is exceptional coming in at $12 a bottle! It’s been a staple on our bar when we decided to only carry small-batch brands. We’ve converted many Tito’s drinkers to this sleeper hit!” — Oliver Zabar, Owner, Devon, New York
“I think Barr Hill Vodka made by Caledonia Spirits in Vermont is a really underutilized vodka in programs. It is distilled from raw honey and has a richer mouthfeel than some other vodkas. It is a clean and neutral spirit, but still has a lovely wildflower note that is fantastic in a Vesper Martini.” — Alexandra Cherniavsky, Beverage Manager, The Love, Philadelphia
“Absolut Elyx is the vodka brand I don’t see ordered enough. The copper pot distillation leaves a crisp, clean vodka which can be enjoyed on the rocks or incorporated into any Martini. I’ll put this single estate vodka against any of the other top-shelf brands, and all the beautiful copper tools and drink receptacles they offer heighten the guest experience and keep them coming back. Definitely underrated and should be called more often.” — Nick Casanova, Head Bartender, Mi’talia Kitchen & Bar, Miami

21.02.20 LUX FRÁGIL Microdosing: Ivan Smagghe x Fantastic Twins live x Autarkic live
Showcase da Microdosing com Ivan Smagghe, Fantastic Twins live e Autarkic live. Microdosing is a series of compilation 12”s selected by Julienne Dessagne aka Fantastic Twins, and designed in collaboration with French visual artist Geff Pellet. Microdosing is a collective experiment aimed at helping you fighting back your modern obsession with happiness. You may deserve a nice day but the day does not need a nice you, nothing should be forced, everything is permitted. Microdosing will provide you with sonic healing weapons on regular basis and at irregular dosage. Those doses will favour psychedelic social techniques against self help tyranny, creation over soma, provoking over numbing, our outer-selves over our inner-selves. Microdosing refuses the fatality of the pleasure principle. Life is a struggle, time to embrace it.

Our master of ceremonies Dub Tiger accomplishes another lap around the sun. The best part of it is that knowing him as we do, the birthday present will never be his, but yours. On February 22nd, Kremlin opens its doors to celebrate a night as special as its line-up and the birthday boy himself. Invited to help blow out the candles are Nox, Daveed and M.dusa, who tonight share the booth in a B2B. There' s only one more thing we can say: Dear Captain, let us have another 20 just like these! Ideally, with us always partying by your side!
