the thing is, julie has never ever ever felt like this before, for anyone.

and like. yeah. obviously. she's never met anyone like luke before, and not just because he's a ghost. even flynn--flynn is her best friend, her soul mate, and she knows her inside & out, but that's not--that's not how julie feels about luke.

luke is like a soulmate. kind of. it's like he hears the music her very soul makes, if that makes sense? it's like something musical pulled him through space and time and now he's here with julie and her heart is just...so glad about it. she loves him, so much, with every beat of her heart, but it's not--hm.

It's not the way she loves flynn, who is her best friend and always will be.

it's not the way she liked nick, all fluttery smiles and flutters of disappointment.

it's not the way she loves alex, who is like a big brother she never had, who sometimes can just *look* at her and she dissolves into laughter.

no--luke is something different.

he holds her hand (they can do that now!) and julie hears a melody. it's not a love song, though--well, not in the way the songs reggie writes are. (he still won't say who those songs are about.)

it's more a song about coming home, about being completed; about keys in locks and finding a perfect harmony, and the funny thing is it's--it's not a romance. that's not who she and luke are. she thought maybe once, but now that they've come out on the other side? no, it's not a romance but it's something else entirely.

The Phantoms Watch JatP: I am actually so, so proud of this one and have been considering rereading it for myself because I know I did some really funny shit. It's like the title says but they're in a QPR and aged up quite a few years. It was my very first ever fanfic and I'm happy that it led me to writing as much as I do now.

I'm Underneath the Undertow: This has been such a labour of love and a processing device for some really traumatic shit in my life and I'm so happy that others are enjoying reading it. Basic premise is Reggie supporting Julie through grief (in a platonic friendship - this is important to me) and then Julie and the rest of their friends (and Ray) supporting Reggie through major trauma.

Gem in a Black Leather Jacket: I still can't believe how this one came about. This entire series exists because I was trying to find an organic way for the boys to be introduced to a band I love and connect to them and then it spiraled fantastically. This was such a fun way for me to play with Reggie's bi crisis.

Neurotic to the Bone, No Doubt About it: Some Alex backstory and bonding with Julie wrapped up in the band's love of Green Day and Pansy Division. Also the result of aforementioned band introduction attempt.

Hit Like a Girl: My newest addition to the same band-related series and it was a lot of fun. I wanted a way to plug some women rockers I love, complain about algorithms 😅, and make Carrie a closet metalhead.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? YES! Gosh, I appreciate comments so much and for me, receiving ao3 emails about a writer replying to one of my comments is often almost as great as receiving an email about a comment of my own.

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? This is complicated but technically I guess Underneath the Undertow? Even though it doesn't end on angst but there isn't like... a happy resolution to the big trauma. Most of my endings are probably just neutral? I don't actually know (feelings are hard for me).

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hmmm... I guess probably The Phantoms Watch JatP? I only have one plot-driven fic so far but this one ends with a cuddle pile sleepover iirc.

8. Do you get hate on fics? – Not yet. I don't really know whether to expect any or not but I do wrap my politic into my writing so I'm preparing for it to happen eventually. Hopefully with the shrunken fandom I'm safe? We'll see.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Negatory. I've found my way back to reading it but I don't think writing it is within my skillset or comfort zone.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? omg. I'm actually so mad about this. No. I have not. Yet. But a dear mutual (whom I will not tag without their permission) has put a crossover idea into my brain and I HATE IT but it will probably get written eventually so it can leave me in peace.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not yet but I am in the middle of one exploring asexuality that I may co-write with an allo friend because there are too many things I don't think I understand well enough to write how I want to. We shall see. I'm also a bit of a control freak so the premise terrifies me a little bit but also seems fun.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship? Oof. Within JatP only? For canon compliant, probably Juke or Rayvorose (I will fight you, I said compliant)? But gosh, I love Willex too. The longer I spend in the fandom, the more ships I love. Polycurve and polyphantoms? Adore. Flarrie. Boggie.

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I don't have high hopes for the one based on an old band vlog. I keep toying around with how to make it work but I think a lot of what I find funny or want to use for the Sunset Curve boys requires video. We'll see though. I thought I'd never get anywhere with my 'Bad Bobby' fic and now I'm... a whole lotta words in.

16. What are your writing strengths? I don't like this question. Not just because I don't know how to compliment myself but because I genuinely do not know. Maybe someone who's read my stuff can share their opinion.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I struggle with connecting scenes and endings. I'm sure there's other stuff too but honestly same note as above. Oh. And titles.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? If it's something I can easily google (not translate but actually get context for) without falling into a deep rabbit hole, I'll do it. But I would generally prefer not to.

20. Favorite fic you've written? Oh. Like of ALL of them or just what's on ao3 so far? Because I'm quite fond of some of my little Tumblr ficlets... 🤔 I need better guidelines! If we go for >1k... AH I still don't know. I'm just gonna say The Phantoms watch Julie and the Phantoms cuz it's been on my brain lately.

It takes them what feels like years to figure their shit out. At first they do all the traditional romantic stuff (including kissing) until Julie speaks up and is like hey!! I'm not really comfortable with that!! And Luke is like that's totally fine I don't mind at all and ily!! And then they keep doing traditional romantic stuff minus kissing and it takes so long for Luke to finally admit that hey!! He's not v comfortable with a few of these things that they're doing!! And Julie's like bitch!! You should've said something sooner!!! Ily and it's okay!! And then everything works itself out

When Luke tells her how he feels she's like don't worry!! We can be qpp's and he's just like. What is that. And then she explains and then they live happily ever after good night.

They tell people they don't know very well that they're dating just because that's what it can look like from afar and it's much easier than explaining everything

But ofc the gang (alex, reggie, flynn, willie) knows, and they eventually tell Ray and he's supportive bc he's literally the best dad ever

And even though they both agreed it would just be for the best that people assumed they were dating they still want to throw up any time that someone says they are, even though technically they were for a bit. Just the thought of it is so weird bc they've been at this state of comfortable-ness for so long

They hold hands a bunch. Like all the time. Like if they're standing next to each other and able to, they are holding hands.

FOREHEAD!!!!!!! KISSES!!!!!!!!! ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE OF THEM IS FEELING DOWN OR SAD!!!!!!! JUST!!!!!! FOREHEAD KISSES!!!!!

They share clothes constantly. Well, the entire gang does, but it is rare that you'll find them sleeping and Luke won't be wearing one of Julie's hoodies and Julie won't be wearing one of Luke's sleeveless shirts

Not to put another random Luke hc in here but Luke is allergic to sleeves in the daytime but at night he is constantly cold and rarely doesn't have sleeves on, even in the summertime

The gang has movie nights every friday bUT juke has their own movie nights by themselves and even though they take turns in picking movies the other always complains if they didn't pick it

Flynn and Luke always joke that Julie is going to leave them for the other BUT they all always know that it's a joke and that Julie loves them equally just in different ways. It's always a joke and they all always know it

There's also a running joke that Flynn doesn't like Luke and he is just constantly trying to win her over but really she loves him and the impact she's had on Julie's life

One time Flynn and Luke went to hang out and Julie pretends that she is very offended that her qpp and girlfriend are leaving her for each other

They're constantly giving gifts to each other because "I saw this and thought of you"

They can be random things from stores or even just rocks that they found outside

I'm not saying that Luke is the one who is good at cooking I'm just saying that he's the one who is good at cooking

Julie draws him in her notebook one time and he literally cries when she shows it to him

They don't do short hugs very often,, when they do hug it's nice and long and comfortable and I love them more than anything

Everyone starts to refer to them as juke when they're together. "Oh, juke went to the movies" "Yeah, juke is being sappy again," Stuff like that, and they pretend that they hate it but honestly it makes their hearts feel so warm

Anyways they love each other that's all good night.

Julie glances away from the stove as Luke trudges into the kitchen. It’s a little surprising that there’s no one clinging to him, already. He’s like a lightning rod whenever he’s feeling high or low, attracting loved ones to his side, giving or receiving energy with every touch.

Then again, Reggie has that huge final he’s been studying for, Alex is probably still out with Willie, and Flynn and Carrie may live across the hall, but Julie suspects that Carrie and Luke would both rather cuddle with a cactus than one another.

She wonders if she should speak, if Luke needs a distraction, but his eyes are weary and pleading, a blue-green watercolor blurred by standing tears. 

Not yet. 

Julie tilts her head, then returns to the pots on the stove like it’s no big deal. Come here.

He wraps his arms around her waist and buries his face in the crook of her neck with a little sigh. She hums a snippet from the song they’ve been working on, stirring the pasta so it won’t stick and burn, and briefly allows her head to rest on top of his. The angle’s too awkward to keep it up, especially while she’s cooking. He doesn’t seem to mind, and some of the tension bleeds out of his body as she continues to hum. His fingers drum against her hip.  

She’s about to flip off the burner and gently detach herself when he mumbles into her neck.

“I called my mom.” 

Julie carefully transfers the pasta to a different burner. Her heart shudders violently in her chest, surging with several strong emotions, struck by the significance of those four little words. She squirms, and he relents enough for her to turn in his arms, winding hers around his back. 

He gives her a wan smile, a highly diluted form of his usual grin, and it wobbles as he waits. There’s more he has to tell her, she can tell, and the dam is on the brink of bursting, but there’s a haunted look in his eyes, one that he wears whenever he’s a war with himself, especially about this. She knows what he needs to hear, what reassurance she ought to give. 

She takes a deep breath, eyes stinging, and cradles his cheek. She tells him the truth. 

“I am so proud of you.” 

They both crack, then, and he crushes her to his chest with a wet laugh, echoing with relief that she feels deep in her bones. She twists her fingers into the fluffy fabric of his flannel.

You’re okay. I’m here. You called your mom and the world didn’t end. 

Even if it had, I would still be right beside you. 

I’d still be so proud of you.

If Alex and Reggie come home to them half-laughing and half-sobbing in a heap on the kitchen floor, with dinner long cold and a few ghosts finally put to rest, well—

That’s okay, too. They can always order takeout.

Luke blinks, trying to drag himself up from the weird place he sometimes goes when he’s hanging out with a Julie, where his thoughts are too abstract to form lyrics, but so purposeful and inspired that he retreats to a space in the back of his mind where he can exist as pure music, creating riffs and rhythms he can return to later, once words start making sense again. “Huh?”

She smiles, and he’s overcome by how goddamn beautiful she is the way he always is when she smiles at him like that. “I just think you’re really cool,” she says. “And I’m glad we met.”

yess thank you for the ask, that’s completely right!! i think they’re inspired by the victorious characters for sure (like julie has the same new girl energy as tori) but it’s mostly a combination of them, if that makes sense? for example, carrie has some of the older sister who thinks she’s better than you vibes that trina has (though not to the same extent haha), but also some of jade’s mean girl vibes (again, not to the same extent) and some of beck’s popular kid vibes? this is making a lot of sense in my head but idk if that’s coming across lol i hope so though!

so, jade and beck as individuals: carrie has some jade elements, i think alex has some of her snark (and the reggie-alex friendship is a bit like jade and cat) but luke has jade’s plot with her dad with emily. then for beck, he’s kind of split between carrie, bobby, and nick, i think? and then later when willie joins he also gets some of that cool popular kid credit. they have the hair for sure!

when it comes to jade and beck as a couple, that’s nick and carrie! they start out dating, break up and make up a bunch of times, and at some point enter a qpr. it’s one of the bigger plot arcs! in terms of power couple energy, though, juke gets close, as well as willex (or possibly willexie? i’m still figuring reggie out lol)

caleb is both mr sikowitz and a very important board member slash almost principal! so one part wacky teacher, one part influential dude, all parts dramatic entrances. everyone’s very much intimidated by him, but he’s also a favourite teacher at the school!

Apparently all I needed was a few days of thought. Not quite the exact same, rather Alex goes to a pride festival and I forgot to mention the word aromantic but there’s QPR Reggie, Alex, and Luke at the end and I could easily be enticed to write more for QPR Juke and also Reggie creating a bracelet with Flynn for Luke because that sounds like an epic idea.

Small (not so small) snippet from the fic (which you can find here):

There’s a tug in his gut and then he reappears, almost tumbling sideways when he finds himself precariously balancing on the back of a bench. He reaches out, grabbing hold of both Reggie and Luke, and then they find all three of themselves tumbling downwards and slamming into the ground.

Reggie groans and Alex finds apologies spilling from his lips as he leaps to his feet, helping his bandmates out. “I wasn’t expecting you to be,” he waves his hand at the bench, “doing whatever you were doing!”

“This isn’t our fault!” Luke immediately responds. “You’re the one who pulled us down with you!”

“I mean… You were trying to stand on the back of a bench.”

Luke points a stern finger at Reggie. “You’re the one who dared me to do it!”

“Guys!” Alex shouts, breaking through the bickering of the other two. As one, they turn to face him. Faced with his bandmates’ entire attentions, he fights the urge to hunch his shoulders and shuffle his feet. The exuberance from earlier has worn off, been replaced by what-ifs. What if Alex is wrong? What if he’s just assuming incorrectly? He knows Luke, knows that the other won’t be mad or angry or anything, but what if-

“Alex?” It’s Reggie’s voice that breaks through Alex’s spiralling thoughts, his bandmates pressed against his sides. “You were so happy and excited before. Are you okay?”

“I-” He gulps in a breath. He’s not hyperventilating, just uncertain and on the edge of a spiral. Luke grabs his hand and squeezes, and Reggie shuffles into Alex’s side so he’s hyperaware that his bandmates are there and he’s not alone. The pamphlet is still in his hand and so he shoves it at Luke, who takes it, looking confused. “It sounds like. You. But…” He trails off, words disappearing from his mouth. In silence, he waits, leaning a little bit more into Reggie, who leans back easily.

Luke is silent, eyebrows furrowing together as he reads the information. Then he pauses at the end, rereads it. He looks up and his eyes look suspiciously teary. “Are you- This is- I’m-” Luke swallows and Alex squeezes his hand, a half-smile curling on his face. “I’m not broken?”

Alex’s heart fractures, splintering into jagged sharp pieces. Luke never should have felt broken. He doesn’t know what to do with the rage unfurling in his chest, a forest fire raging at the injustice of the world. The words feel tangled in his head, caught up on the anger coursing through him.

But Alex isn’t alone and, where he can’t speak, Reggie can, easily folding Luke into a hug. “You were never broken,” Reggie says, serious as anything. “Never. You’re just you and there’s nothing wrong with that.”

G!!!! okay so, aro luke!!! and how there wasn’t a word for aromanticism in the 90s, so here you’ve got luke who’s really lovey dovey with everyone but then gets super grossed out and feels betrayed if someone develops feelings for him, and the only explanation his boys can come up with is “that’s luke, he’s just Like That.” then fast forward to 2020 and alex decides to hang out and haunt some pride center for awhile (bc the future is awesome! most people just let you be gay here!) +

@littlepetbee:  + and discovers some pamphlet about aro identities and brings it back to luke like “it you!” and luke’s like “no way that’s a thing? i’m not just a giant weirdo?” and alex is like “no no no dude you’re DEFINITELY a giant weirdo, just not for this.” and then idk luke and julie qpp it up, the end!

THIS IS KILLING MEEEEEEEEEEEE ARO LUKE!! alex being like HEY REMEMBER HOW YOU’RE JUST LIKE THAT? THAT’S A THING!! and being so excited for luke to finally have answers this is making me so emo lol
