Back where i left off 6 years ago. I started Bjj at the age of 30 to 36 then switched over to Judo for financial reasons. For the past 6 years i gave up all dreams of getting a black belt in Bjj and focused entirely on Judo. But now that Bjj is available where i train my Judo under coach @pugliarenan. Damn it! I did a cool throw there i think but the kids turned the camera and were talking smack about my phone at the same timeπŸ˜‚. Boys will be boys. But men pass the age of 30 usually get fat. At 42 i always hover around 9-12% bodyfat. It's healthy on the joints, and i don't have to worry about medication for high blood pressure, diabetes, clogged arteries and so forth. We all have to die, but we can do so gracefully without breaking the body and a whole lot of suffering. Beyond execise, beyond mindset, beyond habits, lies consciousness. Raise your consciousness and you'll stop doing things out of compulsion and that's where real change happens. Eating too much and the wrongs food too often won't be a problem anymore. Need help? God i look small πŸ˜‚. Here with my wrestling crew and coaches. Actually we're missing half our athletes. Anyhow, they say wrestling ia a young man's game. Absolutely true. One of the fastest and safest ways to get that heart pumping. If you don't have a skipping rope you can simply jump up and down. I personally like to throw in some footwork and shadow boxing in between sets of rope work as well. At 42, warmig up properly before i do anything strenous is non negotiable at this point. Training at a high level when you're an older athelte requires more thought and discipline. Judo is the hardest combat sport imo. So many things happening at once. The gripping, the footwork, the off balancing, the entry, the throw and so much more. So why would i continue practicing it at 42 years old? Well because it's just fun. And that's the key to staying fit as you age, finding something that you enjoy and just keep doing it. The only caveat is injuries. If you jump back into a sport or exercise routine too intensely after a long period of inactivity, you'll snap something up. Proper progression, guidance, accountability and coaching is a great way of getting back into it safely. Knowing what to do vs actually being able to do it in real time against opposing forces is a doozey. Hindsight is 20/20, and hence one of the reasons i film my sparring sessions. By having actual footage/data, i can see what went wrong, i can also see what went right. And i get coaching from my coaches and teammates as well. That's how progress is made in a consistent and conscious manner imo. When working with clients on their health and fitness, tracking is one key component to their success. Without data we're just shooting in the dark. And without some serious accountability and coaching, that data will be useless. You don't need a coach to track your workouts and calories. You do need a coach to keep you consistent and to guide you through the peaks and valleys of your journey. Coaches come in many forms, parents, friends, spouses, etc. The best ones i've come across are the ones who care and have a vested interest in your success. Getting thrown a bit after Bjj class. At 42 i can stil get up after being thrown. This might not sound like much but keep in mind i get thrown like that multiple times during drills and practice sessions. A few reason why i can take a licking and keep on ticking. 1. I know how to break fall. 2. I'm flexible. 3. I have enough muscles for my size. 4. I'm light because i don't carry around much body fat. Staying in great shape as you get older gives you freedom to keep doing whatever you enjoy doing. Whether it's sports, outdoor activities, running a business or just playing with your kids, you can never have too much energy. Yes we inevitably slow down as we age, but not at the rate most men do. A little Wrestling specific exercise for the road. I don't do enough work with the Bulgarian bag but i plan on incorporating it a little more often. I believe in trying out and experimenting with different tools and equipments at your disposal. Main reason is it just makes everything more fun, and it also allows you to get creative with your workouts. Not that you should be switching things up every single day, but that for another post. How many days do i train? 6 days/week. How many sessions total, 10-12. But mind you i sleep 8-10 hours + naps and i eat pretty darn clean. Everybody is different. You have to find the right balance for your lifestyle and for your goals.
