I just went to a bioethics transplant talk about something tangentially related and much more important than the fictional drama I'm about to apply it to, but the popular dicourse around the gc donation as an act that victimized jc primarily and unforgivably is really wild to me as someone who works in transplant on both the donor and recipient sides AND someone who may need a transplant in the future bc yes jc was lied to about the specifics of where his organ was coming from and the risk to other people but one of the MOST important aspects to a live organ donation is making sure that the donor is kept safe as well which takes into account both the risks during surgery and post-transplant quality of life. wwx may have been fully aware of the risks and willing to take them, but under the modern medical ethics that ppl use to claim jc's autonomy was violated, wwx was at FAR greater risk.
jc wouldn't have died due to medical causes, and an otherwise perfectly healthy wwx had a 50% chance of death, and a shortened lifespan with weaker powers even if he lived. its all risk! risk to the extent that I highly doubt any modern surgeon would have agreed to the procedure. and its so disingenuous for fans operating under that framework to act that it was all an act of violence towards jc and not a deeply destructive act for wwx as well. autonomy for one person and safety for another aren't always easy to balance in health care and this is definitely a unique situation, but they both absolutely weigh heavily. there's a lot to be said about ethical decisions in transplant and I'm not saying any of these considerations are objectively correct or free from flaws, but under this current framework that fans are arguing under, its just an unbalanced discussion.
