well, it does depend a bit on which variant/concept you're talking about with me, but the main one that i default to is that corruption is a disease of sorts, caused when a shape/other thing has too much energy and therefore it bleeds into the environment and starts infecting everything it touches/comes into contact with. (corruption can be any color except for white/gray/black)

it also has some prion disease traits, since corruption lingers for a long time in a area without purification, and can even be absorbed by plants and rarely, if something eats said infected plants, they can get re-corrupted, repeating the cycle.

there are a few different stages, spreader, manic, stable, and succumbed. - Spreader is like the corrupted flowers ig- no thoughts head empty, only spreading the corruption further either via attacks or fluids towards perceived non-corrupted. -Manic stage is best compared to furious rabies, with the individual becoming aggressive towards everything as well as becoming far more physically energetic. can and will bite and while the individual is starting to recover a bit mentally they are still very much controlled by their corruption. - stable stage - while still capable of corrupting/infecting others, the host is now the main one in control, the corruption only regaining control in specific circumstances. they are aware of what's going on and regain memories of what they've done in the previous stages.

the succumbed stage is a bit different, it's essentially when the corruption energy is so overwhelming that it can't be forced out quick enough, think annihilate in-game, the corruption is in full control mentally, and the host will be forced to change physically due to the energy that can't escape. body horror central as well as the host starting to literally melt from what's left of their systems/mind trying to force the excess energy out in any way possible. it can happen at any time as long as that overwhelming energy criteria is met.

also while not truly intelligent/alive, corruption does have some form of basic intelligence, being able to prioritize targets for corruption, (it prioritizes infecting shapes/other things that aren't the same color as it, i.e a blue corruption would ignore a blue/green or a yellow/blue shape for the most part but will absolutely gun for a red/orange shape. it interprets white/black/gray as its own color as well) and even able to use some strategies.

Notably, corruption can't change someone's personality, it only twists and warps what was already there, bringing out what mental traits/behaviors/etc. that would benefit it. Because of that corrupted individuals are prone to self-harm, extreme violence or... well other ways to get corrupted body fluids in contact with others. I am not going to clarify.

another thing to note: if a host ends up making babies while corrupted, no matter the uncorrupted colors of the parents, either the primary or secondary color of the offspring will be the color of the corruption. the young will naturally have a resistance because of that- and will actually not be contagious if the corruption is still ongoing.

how does corruption work

what are the player shapes (if they're normal shapes or ✨something else✨)

YIPPEE HELLO FIRST ASK 1)🔷Corruption is something that takes the form of an illness. It’s almost like werewolfism, causing Shapes to mutate & grow into more beastly versions of themselves. Often they take on invertebrate features, exoskeletons & stingers & such, along with fur. It takes a long time for them to reach their full beast forms, several years, through a series of molts. 🔷It typically takes just as many years for a Shape's mind to be corrupted. Cube and Beetle were the only two to have it get to their heads during the events of the game, because they both had corrupted pieces of the Tree. 🔷Once purified, Shapes remain at whatever molting stage they advanced to. Very few Shapes had long-lasting changes since the Heroes dealt with the corruption so quickly (less than a month). 🔷Cube’s transformation process was expedited because Beetle gave her a piece of the Tree to heal her from an injury. Her third molt was only after a week. She got an exoskeleton, fur, tail, and a more forwards-leaning posture in her back & legs (to compensate for the tail). This much change should have taken closer to 6 months. It was very painful for her. 🔷Shapes theorized the Corruption was a curse, some very old and unstable magic not meant to be found again. That’s not entirely accurate.

2)🏵️Natural shapes are akin to mammals. They are warm blooded, have a lifespan of about a human, reproduce as mammals do, can get sick & disabled. 🏵️The player shapes, the Heroes, are not. They are “artificial” life forms born from the Tree of Life, more akin to a living crystal. (That’s why they shatter, vs other shapes like Cube, bleed.) The Heroes have a longer lifespan, were supposed to have a stronger connection to magic (it ended up being mostly Cyan though), and cannot fall ill to viruses/bacteria/etc.

3) Cube :3 She will be getting her own introduction post soon, but some opening information: She is the adoptive parent of Cyan, later becomes the adoptive parent of the other Heroes, is transfem, and is disabled with chronic pain among other things.

honestly? sorta similar hc here, but different bc corruption isn't a shape in my HCs/interpretation, it's essentially a intelligent(ish) disease. it doesn't affect things that are the same color as it bc it registers it as already being corrupted, but that doesn't mean that it wont have a ill affect on the shape in question if they get too exposed to it.

(annihilate in my interpretation of canon is essentially, the disease being the one in control, and it's intelligent enough to realize that the squad are a threat to it, so it's pulling out all of the stops to get rid of them like a cornered animal, which it kinda is when you think about it.)

I am a queer transmasc nonbinary person! My pronouns are He/They/it, and I tend to draw nonstop at a daily basis [this is probably a problem but it’s fiiiiiine]!

My birthday is Oct. 11th and I am 17! Woah my old lmao.

I tend to ask people I meet and be friends with to use tone indicators with me because I have trouble understanding your tone! Tone is hard to decipher on text so, I would really appreciate it if you used them!

I officially started drawing since I was 10-11! I’m slowly trying to learn how to code and 3D model! [4 years so far] I mainly use Maya [student edition] because I find it easier than blender! For the coding part, I use Unity! I’m not very good at coding so don’t even ask for advice </3

little bit of shape worldbuilding:

shapes are partial shape shifters, as well as partial size-shifters, it's pretty limited and depends on the individual in question.

their height does depend on the amount of energy available in their energy reserves- for the most part this is a gradual thing, though in some individuals' cases, like the player shapes, they remain the same size until a certain threshold is met, upon which they sorta explode in height. there is a maximum and minimum amount of height though this again does depend on the individual.

Shape physical changes are dependent on the individual, though there are some common types of changes:

Unconscious changes (normally a response to the shapes mental/emotional state)

Conscious Changes (things that a shape consciously decides to change about them, some shapes describe these sort of changes 'like switching a light switch on and off')

do keep in mind, changes can be both types, but this is sort of just a outline.

some examples:

Fresh/Boss when startled, stressed, or pissed will grow spikes, this is an unconscious change

Sticking with Fresh/Boss, his claws are mostly a conscious shift, while they will sometimes shift in alongside his spikes.

Post-corrupted Cube's clamps and other energy constructs are a unconscious change for the most part, they don't really know how to control them, having never needed to learn how to control shifting like that bc of their condition.

Barracuda normally keeps their mouth sealed so they don't start biting people on reflex (being hideously and VERY lethally venomous does that) this is a conscious change.

hi hi thank u for this ask tony i am sorry it took me. like two months to answer it 🏃i had beatstuck thoughts today & i will do my best to not type a ten thousand word essay (giggle)

basically it takes place in Paradise, which iirc is where. Jsab takes place in as well. But the four player shapes (skya iris cirk & pent) r living at a different point in time than the boss characters (basically all the bosses from jsab, not counting final boss or annihilate bc they're the same character)

this is the cool part: they're basically in a time loop. Paradise gets destroyed and turns into the ocean wasteland, then it gets reborn again, and then gets taken over again. Basically at some point one of the characters realizes that they're stuck like this and they use the game as a way to escape (not necessarily just to escape the time loop for all the characters though, I think having a theme of wanting to escape something by playing the game would be really cool :]])

basically. lots of time shenanigans that are gonna destroy my brain cells

also: one team has a space player but no time player and the other has a time player but no space player. so in order 2 create a new universe they devise a plan to merge their game sessions somehow hehehe

hrmm how do I word this. the player shape's version of "Paradise" is this, vast ocean wasteland. there's some buts of land scattered about that have like, I guess pocket dimensions (basically the levels in jsab. I think this would sorta be like the area you first start out in jsab itself, like before u get to the main area of the game) but for the most part it is just water.

The bosses' version of "Paradise" is much more,,, lively than the other Paradise. This is just the Paradise that u see in game basically <3 but specifically the Island after it's been taken over by the antagonist. basically Paradise is under a tyrannical rule by the boss from New Game so life there is very far from paradise , actually.

also, something 2 note is that Boss/Bosse, I can't decide on the name yet, (the character from Long Live the New Fresh) & Neuga (name I came up w for the character from New Game that. I will not elaborate on [yet]) are separate characters here. Neuga acts more as like a guardian to Boss (but like. not a very good one)

umum anywho things to note is that the main few areas are the cave, factory, volcano, & the mainland (had a very important tree there that basically creates new objects that got wrecked and replaced w a sick tower. by Neuga of course <3

im gonna be real with u 60% of the worldbuilding is loosely based on what the actual game gives us and then 40% is just. stuff i thought was cool.

OK SO I FAILED AT NOT WRITING AN ESSAY ,. I wanted to ramble abt some of the characters too but ‼️I don't want to write a novel (and also I'm a bit tired) so i think i will definitely ramble abt them at a later date
