Good Sunday morning to you. Love this truth bomb from one of my favorite Jesuits priests, Fr. James Martin. I went to Catholic school for 12 years, studied with the Jesuits and have read the entire bible. The Christianity I grew up in taught us to be kind and compassionate towards others, and Jesus said, love one another as I have loved you, so this is lost on me as well. I've seen Jews, Muslims and Sikhs being better "Christians" than "Christians." So let's get a little real and call out hypocrisy and hate for what it is, because God lives nowhere in that house. Knowledge is Power. A little civic lesson with my morning coffee. This is part of my daily practice. In addition to my morning #prayer and #meditation time, I've made it a practice to have study time. If you look at my library, I've built a large self study curriculum in the domain of #spirituality. My years of study have served me well and I will always be on that path. However, these days my new curriculum of learning is in the domain of civic engagement, politics, social justice and conscious business models. I feel that to start a dialogue, to create new narratives for change, one must learn the current state, the history that brought us here, and understand the mindset which led us here. It's not enough to create solutions, we need to shift mindsets and beliefs and we must first start with our own. Have been making conscious efforts to focus on and do things that make me happy, bring my joy and keep me balanced. Finding that I really need to do this to keep my self positive, focused and not get so caught up in the daily emotional highs and lows that come with this new America. I encourage all of others to make sure to include that in your daily practice. It really will help counter balance all of the activism energy we are also being called forth to exhibit right now. For me, the littlest things bring me joy...like walking through my neighborhood, picking up books from my local library, taking myself on a lunch date and buying my favorite Kombucha. I fell in love with Health-Ade Kombucha in LA and it makes me so happy that one of the grocery stores within walking distance from my house actually carries the brand. True Food Kitchen carries it too...its a hard find item in Chicago so little things like finding something that I love, that is also good for me...brings me so much pleasure. I invite you to join me. Let us all have the courage to open our mouths and let our voices be heard. Let us stand together united as a symphony to shape a new conversation. Let us stand for humanity, and justice and kindness and love. Let us be willing to risk appearing stupid to say something that could profoundly impact the life of another, be it in our families, our businesses, our communities. Let us speak up for those who may not have a voice. Let us remember that words have power so may we raise the level of the conversation to the highest vibration.
