A reminder to all English speaking journalists that you can be incarcerated and executed if deemed complicit because you used the wrong wording to decribe war crimes like an ongoing genocide
Look into your contract, keep all copies of prior drafts, and know your rights to legal up if your management, boss, or coworkers wrote/edited your script/article to remove/change words but aren't credited in the edit in a public way.
#mun post#i keep seeing us jouranlists using 'sanitized' language and im like uhoh UHOH U H O H#some news media outlets are not going to be around anymore at this rate

killing jouranlists is a war crime.
they arent collateral damage, theyre being targeted
has isreal left any international law unviolated?
In WWII, in 6 years, 67 journalists were killed
In the Vietnam war, in 20 years, 63 journalists were killed
In Gaza, in 70 days, 89 journalists were killed

the new clip of Blake making comedic jokes when the jouranlist asked her about people in real life that have experienced domestic violence and coming up to her after the film.....did she not have any media training (I mean obv) but why would you turn a serious question like that into a time to make jokes where even your co star sitting beside you looked uncomfortable
yikes i saw, such a hard watch 😭 also i swear the other main guy hasn't said a single word yet

Civil War 4K UHD Review: Front Lines in 4K
This year’s portrait of a modern day civil war presents the cautionary tale as a stark reality in 4K. Civil War was shot for IMAX theaters so that clarity ports home, if not the full scale of it. You are there in the city streets and driving the backroads of America. The camera remains low on the ground as the photographers and jouranlists sneak through towering cities under siege. You’re also…

I take issue with jouranlistic coverage of reasearch articles though there's often spin or misunderstanding that leads to them over or under emphasising the findings. And the gap between reading a something in a newspaper and reading the original paper is massive. For a lot of people they might as well be learning a different langauge.
Journalistic articles that cover reasearch papers are easy to read. So you can at least kinda see why people might expect that knowledge to be simple and delivered to them without additional background reading or critical thinking.
Information should be more acessible from credible sources and without paywalls imo.
Also so many reasearch journal pages are bight white with tiny text and iffy accessibility features at best.
i genuinely have no animosity towards ppl who get upset abt not being able to read academic texts + i do think we need to expand the pathways/methods of being exposed to critical concepts so that "sit + read for 2 hours" is not the only option.
however, as someone dx with adhd + incapable of sitting still for even a minute (actually right at this moment i am writing this instead of reading the book sitting open in front of me), i do feel like a lot of ppl do not realize that not all readings are designed to be read like a novel.
as in, it's ok + normal + good to need to reread a paragraph several times, to only read part of a book, to have to research or reference words or concepts in order to grasp the reading, to skip over large chunks of text which are not relevant to your expertise, to continue reading despite not understanding a concept. this is something 'neurotypical' academics do frequently + many of these texts, especially contemporary ones, were designed with this in mind.
there are many ppl with accessibility needs that are not being met by academic texts at this time! many texts (in my humble opinion) are unnecessarily complex in order to show off or hide the fact that they have no idea what they're talking about.
i still feel like many of the kneejerk reactions on this site are based on the assumption that their experience reading academic texts should be similar to their experiences reading a nyt bestseller, rather than a process of thinking, analyzing, researching, processing, returning. some of u are telling yourself that any challenges u face while reading are a result of some internal fault u have + not an expected + precious part of the experience.

Off the Air | Christina Estes | Published 2024 | *SPOILERS* ARC
Equal parts thought-provoking and entertaining, Emmy Award winning reporter Christina Estes introduces Jolene Garcia in her Tony Hillerman Prize winning debut, Off the Air.
Jolene Garcia is a local TV reporter in Phoenix, Arizona, splitting her time between covering general assignments - anything from a monsoon storm to a newborn giraffe at the zoo - and special projects. Stories that take more time to research and produce. Stories that Jolene wants to tell.
When word gets out about a death at a radio station, Jolene and other journalists swarm the scene, intent on reporting the facts first. The body is soon identified as Larry Lemmon, a controversial talk show host, who died under suspicious circumstances. Jolene conducted his final interview, giving her and her station an advantage. But not for long.
As the story heats up, so does the competition. Jolene is determined to solve the murder. It's an investigation that could make or break her career - if it doesn't break her first.
Off the Air follows Jolene Garcia, an investigate jouranlist working in Phoenix. After receiving an exclusive interview with Larry Lemmon, a controversial radio talk show host, Jolene is mildly happy to know that she was the last person to have an interview with Larry before his untimely death, albeit only mildly.
Larry dropped dead in his recording studio at the KFRK building. The cause of death is being considered suspicious, as he was fairly young, although overweight and didn't take care of himself. Police are interested in speaking with a woman whom dropped off cookies that morning, of which Larry had eaten 3, prior to becoming ill, collapsing and subsequently dying.
Jolene is hounded by her superiors to get interviews. As the investigation into Larry's death continues, Jolene does anything and everything she can (within reason) to gain first hand knowledge of what is going on with the investigation, and while she is given information that others may not have access to thanks to her source in the police department, she is told she cannot use it, for this source was burned by a prior journalist and does not want his name associated within the press at all any longer.
While Jolene is trying to gain access to interviews with individuals who were with Larry at the time of his death, she is thwarted by her journalistic rival, JJ, a blonde woman who flirts her way into getting what she wants. JJ is given exclusive interviews with various people from the radio station while Jolene is having to use old interview clips and sound bites.
As the investigation into his death continues, Jolene is finally given access to the security camera footage showing the woman who delivered the cookies. Jolene recognizes her as a woman who asked for information the day Larry was found dead. Jolene is able to track her down, and speaks with her. The woman, Susan, whom is homeless and spends time around the KFRK building, was prompted to deliver the cookies by Ralph, Larry's producer and close friend.
Deciding this is what she was looking for, Jolene contacts Ralph and he invites her to his home, off the beaten path, where he houses a sanctuary for dogs in his backyard. When Jolene arrives, she realizes that this was a bad idea. Having a huge fear of dogs, Ralph is working with two large pit bills named Bullet and Trigger, and speaks with Jolene.
He confesses that he is the one who poisoned Larry with cyanide, but not with the cookies that have been under suspicion. Instead, he chose the cookies as a diversion, and poisoned his coffee instead. Jolene, who did not give anyone her location or whereabouts, is sure she is about to die, either by the gun that Ralph is holding or by the dogs surrounding him, listens and learns that instead of helping Ralph like he told, Larry was taking dogs from him when his santcuary got too full, and allowed people to hunt them on his property for money. Naturally, as an anima lover, this killed Ralph and he choes to kill him.
As Ralph is about to send his dogs on Jolene, Jim, her source at the police station arrives to save the day and not only shoots Ralph to detain him, but also calls off his dogs who only listen to commands in German. Despite her fear, Jolene also uses the German words she heard Ralph using and calms them down as well.
Despite the ordeal, Jolene is devastated to learn that the video she thought she was recording while her confrontation with Ralph was happening turned out to have been for nothing; the battery had died inside the hidden camera, and she thinks that she has once again lost an exclusive, ground breaking discovery.
But in the end, she wins an Emmy for her efforts during this ordeal, successfully beating out JJ in the same category.
I was provided an ARC of Off the Air by the publisher, author and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. A summry of that review is below:
While the story had much potential, I felt the story fell flat. While this was an unedited copy of the story itself so this may be a contributing factor, I found bits of the story to be confusing, and that parts of Jolene's dialogue didn't flow well, as she could be speaking with one person in one location and then only a line later, being speaking with another person in another location without a transition or knowledge.
Jolene was also quite a bit annoying, which I guess fit her journalist ways, but it was excessive. She was always complaining about one thing or another, and I just didn't connect with her at all.
I guess journalist thriller/mysteries just aren't for me. I gave it 2.5 stars out of 5.

. . #julien#blancgras #tourist#jouranlist#photographe #touriste#journaliste#journalism#photographer #traveling#the#world #lelivredepoche#francais#french#edition #book#writer#peom#ecrivain#livre #france#worldwide#everywhere https://www.instagram.com/p/CcVHA5AMdOM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
