a/n: sorry for the delay! but this picture is the inspo of this blurb because he looks so soft

josh loved that he got the opportunity to showcase his skills and talent during the all star weekend for the rising stars event. he got to spend time with some of his idols and other players, but most importantly you.

no matter where you were going to end up, you took the weekend off to travel with him and his teammate for the all stars. of course, of all places it had to be cold and snowy Utah. so much for a vacation you thought to yourself.

“don’t look so pouty, at least we get to spend more time together.” which was true, despite the fan events happening around the clock, his publicist and the team made sure to slip in a couple of hours of time with you. you took the time out of your life to come here, he wanted to make it worth while.

“so what do you want to do? we’ve got three hours to ourselves before your meet and greet at footlocker.” you asked scrolling through your phone trying to find anything to do that the internet told you was a must see from Utah. of course, all the fun things listed were meant for summer activities.

“we can do whatever you want. I’m up for anything.” he watched you set your phone down, a smile creeping on your face and he knew exactly what you were going to say.

“shopping?” your smile only widen when you saw him roll his eyes at your excitement. you jumped up from the bed moving over to where he sat to press a kiss to his lips.

“if that’s what you want, we can do that.”

“well I don’t want to bore you, are you sure?” you asked, he nodded his head getting up from his spot going to find his things before calling for an Uber.

“my hands are ready to carry all your purchases.”

The rain was softly hitting roof, jarring you awake before Josh. You softly stirred, trying not to wake him up as it was a little later before he had gotten home from his game last night.

Slowly rolling off of his chest, you quietly got out of bed. You made your way downstairs.

The sky was extremely dark from the storms that were rolling in. Josh had forgotten to close the blinds to the sliding glass door, giving you a clear view over the city.

“There wasn’t a call for storms,” Josh muttered as he walked behind you, his arms wrapping around your waist.

“I know.” You whispered, your hands covering his arms as you felt him squeeze you a little tighter, “but it makes a good day for nothing but cuddles.”

“I think that’s a perfect idea.” He replied as he rested his head in the crook of your neck. He slowly craned his neck to see the clock on the stove blinking, “Power must have went out.”

You looked to see what he was talking about, noticing the light too.

A collapse of thunder ran through the air causing you to jump slightly, a laugh leaving Josh’s lips.

You patted his arm, “Get off.” You chuckled.

The lights flicked before going off completely, “Well there goes me cooking breakfast.”

“That’s okay.” He said as he pressed a kiss to your cheek, “but now this means I get to drag you up to our bed with no complaints from you.” He grinned as he continued to press kisses between every word before grabbing your hand, leading you up the stairs.

NBA mock draft 2021: Latest rumors and buzz for final first round projection

Here’s the latest on the 2021 NBA Draft.

The 2021 NBA Draft is finally here. After a full year of evaluating this class, the next generation of NBA players are about to learn where they will begin their careers. You can watch the 2021 NBA Draft at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, ESPN and the ESPN App.

We did our first mock draft for this class the day after the 2020 NBA Draft. There have been some big risers and fallers since then. International players like Josh Giddey and Alperen Şengün have emerged as likely lottery picks after great seasons in pro leagues overseas. Certain college players didn’t quite meet expectations. The end result is a 2021 draft class that feels extremely talented within the top-four and then becomes something of a grab bag throughout the rest of the lottery.

This mock draft is based off what we’re hearing ahead of draft night. We have already published our top-30 big board player rankings, and in-depth profiles of first round picks Sharife Cooper, Ayo Dosunmu, and Giddey. We also profiled Cade Cunningham almost two years ago to the day as he started his journey to become the No. 1 overall pick.

Here’s how we see the first round playing out:

The top four of the NBA draft appears to be locked in

Cade Cunningham was widely projected to be the No. 1 pick coming into the year. He maintained that status with a tremendous freshman season at Oklahoma State. While there have been rumors the Rockets and Thunder tried to trade up to No. 1 — as well as rumors Detroit has yet to fully commit to Cunningham — he’s obvious choice at the top. Anything else would be shocking.

While we have a preference for Evan Mobley as the No. 2 overall pick in this draft (more on our top-30 big board here), the Rockets seem zeroed in on Jalen Green. There’s certainly an argument for Green as the safer pick. He could flirt with being a 30-point-per-game scorer at his peak.

The Cavaliers should be doing backflips that Mobley is still available at No. 3. He’s a wonderful fit next to Darius Garland, Isaac Okoro, and (if he isn’t traded) Collin Sexton. We think he can play the four next to Jarrett Allen early in his career while also unlocking lineup flexibility when he slides to the five. Mobley has the highest defensive ceiling of any player in this class, and while he’s not hardwired to score, his passing skill and shooting potential will make him an effective offensive player.

The Raptors have reportedly been considering Scottie Barnes at No. 4, but it’s hard to imagine them passing on Jalen Suggs. Suggs is less of a heliocentric star and more of an overqualified complementary piece in the backcourt, but he’s a well-rounded player who should be a plus on both ends of the floor. He’s the last player in this draft class who feels likely to one day compete for All-Star bids.

The Magic appear to be settled on Scottie Barnes at No. 5

The level of talent in this draft drops another tier starting with the fifth pick. The Magic were seen to have two options when they landed at this spot in the lottery: G League Ignite forward Jonathan Kuminga and Florida State forward Scottie Barnes. It appears Barnes will win out.

Barnes is a Florida kid who played his entire high school career in the state. He fits the Magic’s longstanding history of favoring players who are, well, long. Barnes’ 7’3 wingspan and elite motor help make him one of the best defensive prospects in this class. His creation ability as a passer is the most enticing part of his offensive game, but he’ll have to improve as an outside shooter. Barnes feels more likely than Kuminga to make an immediate contribution.

The Thunder are a true wild card at No. 6

The Thunder reportedly made a strong offer for the Pistons No. 1 pick, with some speculating they included star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the package. It wasn’t enough for Detroit. If they stick at No. 6, the Thunder will have a ton of interesting options. Given their history of favoring players with impressive physical tools who are still raw, Kuminga feels like the most likely option.

The Thunder appear to have no interest in winning until they get a shot at drafting 7’3 French phenom Victor Wembanyama in 2023. By that time, Kuminga could be ready to contribute at a high level. One of the youngest players in this class, Kuminga is a big 6’8 wing who showed off poor shooting touch in the G League, but has all the tools to eventually be the type of two-way foward teams covet. He just feels more likely to be OKC’s selection given their history than someone like UConn sophomore James Bouknight, who has also been getting buzz.

The Warriors have two lottery picks and plenty of options

Golden State picks at No. 7 and No. 14 in the lottery. Their top option should be a trade for immediate help with Steph Curry coming off a near MVP season, Draymond Green still playing at an All-Defense level, and Klay Thompson finally returning after two years missed because of injury. It’s just hard to find a deal out there that feels worth it for both sides.

The most likely option is the Warriors making two picks on draft night. We would have a preference for two players in this spot: Franz Wagner and and Josh Giddey. Wagner feels like the most overall talent on the board (we have him ranked No. 5 in this class) because he’s the best bet to shoot of the big forwards while still offering potentially elite defense. Giddey is a 6’8 Australian playmaker who could offer redemption after the Warriors foolishly decided to pass on LaMelo Ball last year.

Golden State could also consider Baylor’s Davion Mitchell, Kuminga, and UConn’s James Bouknight. We’ll give Bouknight the edge here given the recent buzz. His scoring ability is seen as a known quantity in a draft that doesn’t offer many outside of the top-four. It’s not our favorite pick personally, but Bouknight’s instant offense and endless motion in the halfcourt could be a nice fit in Steve Kerr’s offense.

The Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly looking to trade up again

The Grizzlies already made a move from No. 17 to No. 10 after completing their deal with the New Orleans Pelicans. They reportedly want to move up again. Memphis is said to have two targets: Giddey and Wagner. It’s likely they need to move up to get Wagner, who is widely projected to go No. 9 overall to the Sacramento Kings.

We’ll guess Wagner doesn’t make it to the Kings’ pick. The Grizzlies may trade up to No. 7 with Golden State or No. 8 with Orlando to get their guy. It’s also possible the Warriors or Magic just take Wagner with their own pick.

Where will Alperen Şengün get drafted?

The big man put up incredible production in the Turkish league at 18 years old to force his way into the lottery conversation. He doesn’t have ideal tools for an NBA center, lacking ideal measurables, quickness on the perimeter defensively, and three-point range on his jump shot. At a certain point, though, Şengün’s production will be too tempting to pass on.

Sacramento at No. 9, Charlotte at No. 11, and San Antonio at No. 12 feel like the most likely options. He’d also be a solid pick for the Warriors if he slides all the way to No. 14.

3 ‘old,’ tall shooters could crash the top-15

Corey Kispert is well known to basketball fans after a starring role on a Gonzaga team that fell one win short of an undefeated season in the national championship game. Virginia’s Trey Murphy III and Oregon’s Chris Duarte were lesser known names during the college season who have gotten plenty of buzz in the pre-draft process. All three are on the older side in a draft class largely filled with freshmen. All three have a chance to go in the top-15 of this draft because of their skill as three-point shooters.

Kispert or Duarte feel like an obvious selection for the Warriors at No. 14. Murphy is getting buzz at No. 15 to the Washington Wizards. The back-end of the lottery is still anyone’s guess, but at this point it would be a surprise if any of the three slipped out of the top-20.

2 big sleepers in the 2021 NBA Draft

Sharife Cooper is the best playmaker in the draft after Cade Cunningham. He has an ultra-quick first step, an endless combination of dribble moves, and the best vision and passing ability in this class. Cooper is held back by his lack of size (6’1, 180 pounds) and unrefined three-point shot, but we think he’s a top-10 overall talent in this class. The Knicks at No. 19 or No. 21, and the Houston Rockets at No. 23 and No. 24 feel like wonderful landing spots.

Jaden Springer is the youngest American player in the draft. He’s also one of the best on-ball defenders. While didn’t get to show everything he could do offensively on a Tennessee team that provided little spacing around him, it feels wild that he’s projected to slip outside of the top-20. The Knicks, Rockets, Suns, and Jazz would be nice fits for Springer late in the draft, but we’d take him much earlier than that.

The Knicks could trade up in the 2021 NBA Draft

New York picks at No. 19 and No. 21 coming off a surprising season that saw them grab the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference in their first year under Tom Thibodeau. The prevailing logic is the Knicks will take a guard and a shooting wing with these two selections.

In our mock, the Knicks take the ‘best available player’ with their first pick with mega-athletic guard Keon Johnson dropping. They also take Kentucky big man Isaiah Jackson, who is a CAA client and has ties to assistant coach Kenny Payne, who used to work for John Calipari and the Wildcats.

It also wouldn’t be a surprise if the Knicks moved up, as ESPN’s Bobby Marks reported. The Hornets could be an option at No. 11. It makes sense after Chicago Thibodeau’s Bulls once traded the No. 16 and No. 19 picks to move up for Doug McDermott. Kispert, Murphy, or Durate feel like targets for New York if they trade up.

“Oh boy,” Josh chuckled as he saw your face on the kiss cam; it widening to show you both. He patted your thigh, pointing towards it as a blush covered your cheeks once you saw the screen.

“I mean do we?” You asked, not too sure how to handle the situation.

You and Josh were just hooking up, on the verge of a relationship, but no one knew that. To everyone else, you were just friends.

“Do you mind?” He asked, “We can just ignore it if you’re not comfortable.” He said.

“Kiss me Giddey.” You giggled as you saw a grin spread across his face.

His hands came up to cup your cheeks, him pressing kisses all over your forehead, cheeks, chin, everywhere but your lips, causing the teammates that were with you to boo the young star.

“Not gonna lie, but we all knew this was coming and we’re glad you’re about to be public.” one of his teammates commented from beside him.

“Shit, we didn’t think this through did we?” Josh groaned.

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“We’ll we’re not exactly dating yet.” Josh whispered, “The tabloids are going to have a field day with this one.”

“Oh you bet they are.” You whispered, but loud enough for just Josh to hear, “But would it be so bad dating me? I mean, it’s not like we aren't already doing all the couple stuff as it is. We just don’t have a label.” You shrugged, trying to act like his comment didn't bother you. 

Josh gave you a sad smile, finally realizing how you felt before leaning over, “I know this isn't romantic and probably how you wouldn't want to be asked, but I'm not waiting any longer,” He grinned as he used his finger to turn your chin towards him, “Will you be my girlfriend?” He asked, a grin taking over both of your faces. 

“Of course.” You whispered as you planted your lips on his.

“Oh look! The kiss cam found Josh and Y/N again.” You heard from beside you, “and this time they actually kissed.”

“About time!”

“Hey- Y/N.” Josh grinned as you two magically walked out of your doors at the same time. 

Magically. Definitely not Josh waiting to hear you walk out to bump into you. 

“Hey.” You softly smiled as you took in his appearance, “What are you up to?” You asked, “You look happy.”

His hair was curlier and fluffier than normal, his eyes looking brighter, and an adorable smile on his face. 

“Just in a good mood,” He quickly said, thoughts running through his head, “I’m actually heading up stairs to the roof, Some of the boys live in the building and we’re going to play a quick game of pick up before the game tonight,” He said as the two of them started walking down the hallway towards the stairs that were next to the elevator, “Hey, do you actually have plans?” He asked.

“Uh- no.” You blushed, “Well depends if you count a smoothie from the place around the corner, a book, and people watching plans then I have the best plans this afternoon.”

“Honestly, it sounds great.” He quickly said, showing he didn’t mean it if he has offended you, “but I was going to see if you wanted to ditch those plans and come up and watch us play? If you don't want to that’s-”

“I would love to Giddey.” You grinned as you followed him to the stairs, “Lead the way.”

“Well well well, its about time we meet the girl that Joshua won’t shut up about.” Jalen grinned as he shook Josh jokingly. 

“So he talks about me?” You grinned towards Josh as you watch his cheeks flush.

“Sure does.” Aaron said, “Like he said,” he started as he pointed towards Jalen, “Never shuts up about you.” 

“Hmm good to know.” You chuckled, hearing the door open behind you as you turned around, seeing another male and girl walk in.

“Another girl? Thank god.” the girl softly spoke as she walked over, introducing herself, “I'm Hailey and you must be Y/N,” she smiled, “and I'm assuming these idiots didn’t introduce themselves, did they?” 

“Actually-”

“I wasn't asking you.” Hailey rolled her eyes at the younger men, before slowly introducing them as Jalen, Aaron, and Shai. 

“Y/N.” 

You were ushered over to a seat beside Hailey as they got the game started. 

Josh was missing easy passes, not rebounding, and sometimes not even hitting the backboard. 

Once or twice was okay, but after a few of each one and more, the boys started heckling him over it. 

“What the hell Giddey?” Aaron shoved the youngest boy, “We can’t have you playing like that tonight, got it?” 

“Stop embarrassing me.” He whispered, “I’m trying to impress her.”

“Impress her by sucking? Got it.” Jalen grinned, “Hope it works for you buddy.”

“Hey Giddey!” You shouted at him, “How about actually putting the ball in the net?” You joked as his friends let out laughs as you joining in. 

“Looks its not as easy as it looks!”

“Should be pretty easy when you’re that close to the net.” You shrugged, “Just a thought.” 

Josh shot the ball again, completely missing.

He looked back towards you, a grin already on your face, “Okay give it to me.” He said, his accent coming out thicker than usual.

“Man, you really suck at basketball, huh?” You laughed, “Maybe I shouldn't come tonight.”

“I didn’t invite you up here for you to bully me the whole time.” He chuckled, “and what do you mean? You’re coming to the game?”

“Yeah- my boss got us tickets for tonight as a thank you.” You nonchalantly shrugged. 

Josh nodded, “Good.” he muttered as he turned around, his eyes widening at his friends as he walked towards them. His foot scuffed the ground causing him to slightly stumble, you letting out a laugh at him.

“Josh, keep it up and you’re going to need a helmet. That isn't the first time you’ve tripped today.”

“It’s just him falling for you!” Jalen barked out, a laugh escaping right after.

Josh’s face flushed for what felt like the millionth time that day.

“Look I gotta run now,” You said as you walked over to Josh, him giving you a small hug before you walked towards the stairs, “The smoothie is calling my name now and frankly, I’m starting to feel bad watching you eat shit every few minutes.” You grinned, “Like a baby deer or something,” You added, “But I will catch you tonight.” 

“See you later,” he replied, “and definitely not a baby deer! Just finding my footing.” He rolled his eyes.

“Yeah like a baby deer.” You remarked, “I’ll see you later.” You chuckled as you opened the door, quickly leaving the rooftop,. 

“Oh you’ve got it bad Giddey,” Shai clapped his back, “Playfully insulting you and you just took it? You might as well sign the marriage certificate tomorrow.”

“Someone is moving into the apartment across from you.” Jalen said as he munched on some popcorn.

“Who is it?”

“Well Josh, I didn’t ask.” Jalen rolled his eyes as he plopped on his couch, “Didn’t think it mattered, does it pretty boy?”

Josh’s face flushed as he heard a huff outside his door before a timid knock.

Josh walked over, quickly opening the door as he saw the girl Jalen was talking about standing there.

“Hey- sorry to bother you, but I seemed to lock myself out of my apartment when I was carrying stuff up. Went down to grab more and didn’t have my keys or my phone.” You ran your hand through your hair stressfully as you watched the strange man’s face change, “Is there any way you can call the landlord and ask if he can bring the master key and let me in?”

Now granted, you could have walked down there, but you were tired and it gave you a chance to talk to the cute neighbor you had seen walking in and out of his apartment the last couple of days while you moved in.

“Uh yeah.” Josh’s accent rang out, “Do you wanna-“ he stepped aside, motioning into the apartment.

You nodded stepping into the time that looked very familiar to yours, yet different.

Josh quickly made phone calls as you sat on one of the bar stools, your head rested in your hand as you watched his friend on the couch look between the two of you, a smug grin on his face.

“Hey, he said he’ll be right up.” Josh said as he walked over to the couch, taking a seat, “you’re welcome to hang out here until he arrives.”

You nodded, “Thank you…”

“Josh.” He perked up, “That’s Jalen. He doesn’t live here, but he’s my teammate and one of my best friends.”

“Teammate?” You questioned, your interest getting the better of you.

“Okay cool.” You said as you stood up, saying a quick bye to Jalen, “Thanks for letting me hang.” You said, walking out the door behind your landlord, “See you around Josh.” You grinned as you shut the door behind you.

“You’re in love.” Jalen poked fun at his friend.

To say you were unathletic was an understatement. When dating an athlete, most of them were determined to teach you how to play the sport that more than likely paid their bills. 

“No no.” Josh said as he grabbed your hands, “Put your thumb here over the little black dot,” Josh wasn't worrying about terminology as you would probably forget what he showed you by tomorrow, “This will help you steady the ball and aim correctly.” he said as he guided your other hand to actually hold the ball, “Use this hand on the side to hold it before you shoot.” He said, demonstrating how he does it.

“Helps when you’re 6′8.” You grumbled as you tried doing exactly as he told you, the ball bouncing off of the side of the backboard, outside of the square.

“In the square baby.” Josh chuckled causing you to glare at him as you shot again, the ball falling a few inches before it reached the rim of the the goal.

“Little harder.”

“That’s what she said.” You joked as it was his turn to roll his eyes at you.

You shot the ball once more, it finally going in and Josh fake cheered, his arms wrapping around you from behind. He picked you up, shaking you as he continued to cheer. 

“She shoots, she scores!”

“Baby, they’ll love you.” He said, “If you don’t want to go, just tell me and I’ll stop pressing, but I think you have nothing to worry about.” He continued, “If you want to be there, I want you there. Hell, I want you there either way; it’s all up to you love.”
