Fav moments in outsiders GMA performance (warning I’m gonna use actor names instead of character names cuz it’s easier for me, but please know that 95% of the time this isn’t about the actors lmao):

-when Brody and sky start singing together and you can see that they’re both genuinely smiling and laughing with each other and it’s so cute

-“they’ll do all that they can to keep you poor and scared”

-when all the greasers are revealed Brent’s kinda hugging Anna and it’s so cute

-at the same time Tilly’s messing with Daryl, then she reaches up to Renni, then kinda hugs Brent’s leg and he leans into her AND ITS SO CUTE HRHFJDH

-Daryl and Brody doing the handshake

-Jason greeting sky then audibly slapping Josh strobl with the rag 😭

-Jason slapping Brody with the rag

-the way Emma’s with kwp and they’re being all romantic and then basically immediately she’s lifted into the air by rj and kwp is forgotten

Could you pls go into a bit more detail on how Darrel comforts Soda right after his breakdown? Also a bit more detail on how Soda comforts Pony after Johnny dies? Like how they’re sitting, hand/arm placement, etc. and if the comforting for both is done a little differently each time. I know you said once that sometimes, based on who the actors are, that Soda and Pony talk a bit to each other while Soda is comforting him, have you been able to make out what their saying? Also, listening to your last audio of Soda’s breakdown, I love the soft little “heys” Darrel gives him along with a barely audible “it’s ok” 🥺

Sorry if it sounds like a weird request, I just love hurt/comfort! 😭 Also the odds of me being able to go see the show are very low, so I would just like (and I’m sure many others do too) a little more detail pls because I want to be able to imagine it more clearly! 😫🙏🏼

darry doesn't always totally comfort soda! he usually will put a hand on his shoulder or leg,,that's about it! i've noticed that brent is usually the one who is most comforting! victor didn't do too much, and i don't remember dan doing anything besides an arm around soda. it also kinda depends on how jason plays how upset soda gets! in the last audio i have posted of it, he was full on sobbing and brent was basically holding him. like brent is kneeling behind him and jason is sitting with his legs out in front of him and brent is kinda hugging him from behind,,,if that makes sense! i've only seen them play it like that twice!

as for soda & pony after johnny's death...pony goes and sits on the floor by johnny's hospital bed. soda walks over and sits with him and holds him. it is pretty different every time, depending on how whoever is playing pony reacts to soda's presence! jason kinda does the same i described brent doing,,,hugging pony from behind and sometimes he'll hold pony's head and i've seen him kiss pony's head as well..trevor & josh are both pretty receptive to the comfort from when i've seen them,,brody used to just ignore him and sit in his hug,,,but recently he's been holding onto him and playing into it more!

- brody makes A LOT of eye contact

- he pointed at me and smiled and giggled a bit when i was mouthing the words to him while he was sitting next to me

- victor loves his middle finger, he was flipping everyone off for most of the time he was on stage in tulsa 67

- brent is so funny to watch on the side of ggah

- he kept making snarky little remarks to himself

- he specifically said “sodas gotta watch his mouth” really loudly after sodas verse

- he fixed dans necklace at one point for him 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺

- dan was soooo touchy with brent and brody tonight

- the way brent threw himself into dans arms after titt made me sob

- also the way dan was holding brody on the ground after johnnys death

- i actually couldn’t breathe

- tilly screamed “get off of me” sooooo loudly at the start of the rumble

- brody kept adjusting his wig during act 2

- at the end of the rumble when it was blackout, dan stuck his hand off the stage and fist bumped one of the girls in the group next to me

- i thought rj was going to kick me in the face during the rumble, he came very very close a few times

- i was actually shaking and hyperventilating during little brother

- i kept looking at brody during scenes where he was just observing on the jungle gym and wasn’t actually apart of and he could definitely feel me watching him because he made DIRECT eye contact with me a few times 😳

- no one ate any of the food last night

ahhh plz give ur review of the show tn. ive been reading on the blogs how locked in/amazing brent and jason have been recently. how were they tn?

brent and jason were amazing! brent in particular i thought was really on point. really strong vocals from him tonight. i was sat next to someone who knows josh and she commented how much stronger titt was since she saw it last. he seemed genuinely sad at the start of ritf, i wanted to hug him.

jason gotta a lot of laughs after his "i'll fold the laundry...i'll fold all of it" line. he did it so serious. like soda really thought folding all the laundry would solve all their problems lol. soda's outburst at the end was especially heartbreaking today. every time i see it i swear jason gets angry and sadder. darrel had an arm wrapped around soda and pulled him close when they are on the floor in this scene :')

jason and josh also are super cute in the scene just before ritfr. when johnny mentions that pony talked to cherry, he and soda get super excited. then when darrel and pony continue talking jason turned to josh and they did this cute low-five/woogity woogity a la rocket power.

saw the outsiders musical last night (7/20/24) and thought i would make a little post about some of my favorite parts!! brody, sky & daryl were out so i saw trevor wayne as pony, josh strobl as johnny & henry julián gendron as two-bit!

there’s a bit after pony gets jumped by the socs where darry and soda are cleaning the blood off his face and when they’re done and have gotten up johnny comes and sits next to him and takes out a rag and starts also cleaning pony’s face <3 it’s so so sweet

henry does a couple little opt-ups as two-bit in both grease got a hold and hoods turned heroes where i was like “ooh!” i adore daryl tofa so i was a little disappointed when i found out i wouldn’t be able to see him but henry was SO fantastic!! such a talented dancer and you could tell he was having so much fun with the character! such a standout for me.

was deeply impressed by how many items were successfully thrown and caught in grease got a hold like holy shit dude

the LIGHTING in great expectations has pony pointing his flashlight at darrel on “darrel was on his way up in the world” & johnny on “johnny has no kind of chance in this world” and then as the verse goes on he points it at all of the greasers standing all over the stage and the light lingers on them for the rest of the song it’s so fucking cool-looking! and during the chorus the stage starts to look like a starry sky which is a choice they bring back for the little great expectations reprise at the end of far away from tulsa. 

the moment where pony & johnny do their little cool guy walks over to cherry and marcia at the drive-in with their popped collars was so precious to me

i ADORE cherry valance and i ADORE emma’s take on her!! her little convo with pony at the drive-in was really sweet and i loved that they chose not to make the dynamic feel like a crush on ponyboy’s part it was such a nice moment of two people finding and genuinely understanding each other so deeply <3

lighting sound & everything was so next-level during the fountain scene-bob’s death like i don’t even think i can describe it it was so much and so crisp and so visceral in the absolute best way

staging for run run brother was SO cool — there’s a part at the end where they use the tires and boards from the set to make two platforms that the other actors can roll them back and forth while johnny is on one and pony on the other and they roll them away from each other and they are both reaching out so desperately towards each other its so fantastic

i also really liked the part in run run brother where dally gives pony his jacket like he just wordlessly put it on for him it’s so nice

lighting & subsequent blackout at the end of run run brother as pb&j are in the air after jumping off the “train” was ELITE

pony is holding johnny’s switchblade during death’s at my door and at the end of the song johnny reaches out to take it from him but he doesn’t pull away so he’s just holding pony’s hand and then he puts his other hand over pony’s too and they sit there like that until the lights go down <3

LOVED what they’ve done with darry’s character here!! i know people have some nitpicky things with it but he is such a fascinating character and i’m so glad that the musical theater medium was able to do so much with him that the limited pov of the novel couldn’t — brent comer plays darry so so well and my heart aches for him like fuck dude he cares about his brothers so fucking much and he’s doing his best and he’s so so tired :((( give him a break!!

jason schmidt’s voice is SO fantastic holy fuck throwing in the towel was GORGEOUS!! and the little bit at the end where soda hugs darry and it looks like he maybe kisses him on the head a little is so darling <3

the entire “do i look like julie andrews?” scene is so fucking good… genuinely made me laugh out loud. “fine, paul newman, then!” “…no shit?” is so fantastic and johnny’s little “she is pretty as hell :)” about cherry is adorable. and ofc the “goldilocks and her ugly sister” line is fucking great

the way that johnny perks up when he hears “say hey to johnny for us :)” in soda’s letter is so cute

the church fire scene is perhaps the coolest shit i have ever seen onstage

ponyboy is crying so hard after johnny dies that has to sit down on the floor of the hospital room and soda sits behind him and just holds him <3

ponyboy is like actively crying as he narrates dally’s death its so fucking heartbreaking. i liked that they drew the parallels between the train crashes in order to make dally’s death meaningful despite its departure from the book. and the detail about the train derailing when it hit him was wonderfully written. 

there is a scene where ponyboy is like inconsolable sitting on the living room floor with his head in his arms after johnny and dally die and cherry comes by the house because she has been volunteering at the hospital and no one came to pick up johnny’s clothes after he died and she thought ponyboy should have them and she tells him there’s a letter in the pocket addressed to him and after she leaves he just sits there for a while and when he finally moves he picks up johnny’s jean jacket and fucking like hugs it and buries his face in it and it’s so so so heartbreaking and soda has to come over and start reading the letter to him before johnny appears and starts singing stay gold <3

johnny starts SR at the beginning of stay gold while pony is sitting on the car at SL but he is slowly moving closer to pony as the song goes on and right before they start singing in harmony johnny sits down next to him <3 <3 <3

josh’s stay gold made me CRY!! especially him and trevor singing “i have known a love that many never know / and that love lives on no matter where i go” holy shit. their voices blend together so beautifully

overall i fucking ADORED trevor’s ponyboy!! he embodies the role so so well and has such a fourteen-year-old boy vibe when he’s onstage that i definitely did not expect from an actor in his twenties! i’ve heard that his pony is a little more emotional than brody’s & josh’s and that was a choice i really really vibed with!! and his voice was like jaw-dropping, what a talent!!

stagedoor afterwards was so so wonderful! i made drawings for the entire cast and everyone was so so nice and seemed to really like them! the ensemble & understudies especially seemed really thrilled that i had made something for them

henry in particular was so so sweet and seemed like he couldn’t believe that i had drawn him! he was like “is this me for real?” and someone (i think it was trevor) told him to look at the back where i had written his name and a little note and he was really excited about it!! he actually was like “this is awesome i have to go inside and give this to my mom right now so i don’t lose it” and his family was right inside the stagedoor and he pointed me out to them and they were so excited! he gave me a hug too it was really nice :)

trevor was also really excited and was like “this is a drawing of me for real? not brody?” and he was so happy when he turned it around and saw his name <3

i gave melody and sarahgrace copies of the same drawing of both of them and as soon as i gave it to melody she immediately looked around to find sarahgrace and show it to her (she was still inside but it was very cute) and then she told me they were going to put it on the wall in their dressing room!!

sarahgrace was like “omg you even drew my bracelet!” and was excited when i pointed out the detail i put in for the pattern on her dress!

trevor yelled across the sidewalk to tell josh to stop talking to his (trevor’s) mom as a joke lmfao

everyone except jason & kevin c came out to stagedoor and they were all so so sweet!! got photos with most of them and they all signed my copy of the book!! overall such a fucking fantastic experience! the drawings were a lot of work but it was so nice to see the looks on the cast’s faces when they saw them!!

Outsiders Thoughts

Hi! Been a while since I've actually posted something, and I had the extreme honor of getting to see the Outsiders like 2 and a half months ago, and now that I've had more than enough time to process it I figured I would put down my thoughts! I'm going to start from the beginning, then keep going. Forgive the numerous parentheticals -- I absolutely loved this show and can't shorten my review. I had been listening to the cast album since it came out, looking at all the posts, hoping but never considering that I would actually be able to go. I got a gift of tickets to go with a friend and it was an AMAZING experience.

First thing's first -- important to note that I am not from New York, so Broadway culture in general is very interesting to me. Most shows I am lucky to see come on tour. It was very wild getting to see everyone's faces and the details on stage so clearly even from a mezzanine seat, something that isn't very normal for me and was awesome.

Anyhow, so I got in line with the person I went to see it with, put on all my bracelets I had made for the cast (I was kinda sad because both my Ace and Paul bracelets broke [several times haha] but what can you do) and went into the theater. That night we saw most of the original cast, except for Josh Strobl as Johnny (flawless-- I'll get to that later) and Milena Comeau as Ace (also fantastic). The ushers were really nice, and one of them complimented my outfit which made my night (among other things -- again, we'll get to that later). We sat down and listened to the music that plays before the show starts. I saw in a post by @throwing-in-the-towel that multiple songs play, but something must have been weird or it was on loop because I'm fairly certain I heard Jesus Was A Cross Maker about 10 times in a row (things happen!).

Anyhow now for the actual show where my thoughts will be more rambly

It was so cool to see Brody on the tire before the show started. No clue what he's writing in there, but he was QUITE focused on what he was writing. I could see people in orchestra trying to wave at him, which I think may have been kind of rude but I also don't know

anyway so the show started but there's no turn your phone off please, blah blah blah warning so it was kind of startling when it started, that's okay though because it definitely pulls you in

Tulsa 67

Tulsa 67 was just -- so amazing. I saw what I saw from watching the Tonys, but seeing the choreography in person was AMAZING. I constantly was hyperfocusing on one or two of the dancers (Especially Daryl Tofa and Milena) throughout the show which might have caused me to miss some things but I think that's okay because it was astonishing

Seeing the screen fade to Darry and Soda in the beginning made my heart drop into my stomach. I don't even know how to explain it. I wanted to cry 20 seconds into the show, because these characters felt so REAL

The introduction to Josh Strobl's Johnny was when I knew he was fantastic, just the way he carries himself is SO johnny. His voice was so sweet, I fell in love with the character that I loved so much in the book all over again.

The scene where Bob and the Socs beat up Ponyboy felt kind of like BAM because it's not something I expected to see right after the opening number. That being said, it makes sense plot-wise so it worked. Kevin William Paul as Bob was so Menacing (the capital was intentional) like he TRULY hated greasers. It's hard to sympathize with a guy like that -- kinda wish they showed more about how his heart could be "good" but also understand why they didn't. First act is pretty much solely Ponyboy's perspective.

Grease Got A Hold

LOVED the introduction to all the characters. They seemed so genuine, Jason and Brent have such amazing chemistry as stage brothers, and Daryl as Two-Bit was hilarious.

His like cracking up for a solid 10 seconds before he says "got one of their hubcaps"

was a little sad at the reducing of Steve as a character, but also I get it in terms of the plot -- it doesn't change the story much.

the choreography in grease got a hold is so good. Truly. with all the gravel everywhere, truly adds to the grittiness of the show. I knew how it looked partially because of the performances that are on youtube and from the tonys, but the way they make use of the set is so cool

Josh Boone's stage presence as Dally is unmatched. Seriously. Get this man a Tony. I'll get to more of this later, but wow. And his riffs in Grease Got A Hold. don't even get me started.

daryl's delivery of "you better bet your life" is different from the cast recording but in SUCH a good way.

I always love the part that's a-capella with the claps because it reminds me of come from away. can't really explain it, it just does and I love it

everyone making fun of Darry when he sings his verse -- cracked me up

Also jason schmidt -- just wow. what a performance. he has such a hold on you (if you'll forgive the pun) the moment you see him because I feel like you can tell that he's so much more than an airhead/flirt/etc. from the get-go. jason's portrayal of him is so perfect.

how physically affectionate the gang seems with each other

Runs in the Family

no seriously he was fantastic. there isn't much movement in the song, but you don't need it. you can feel his pain. his frustration. they could never make me hate Darrel Shaynne Curtis

AND HIS VOICE. actually my favorite in the entire show

when the gang comes in and Ace is like "hey Darry got any chocolate cake", and the gang is all scooching together with big old smiles on their faces watching tv while Darry's scrubbing the kitchen

all of darry and pony's interactions are laced with so much tension, it's palpable. and darry's inherent mistrust of dally is very real

that being said -- dally is A LOT nicer in the musical. like no way would he hug pony and johnny in the book, or outwardly say how much he cared about them, even if you know that's how he felt. I do like how he's portrayed here but it is very different.

Great Expectations

love the whole scene beforehand

the 544 pages thing cracks me up

they all have such good brotherly chemistry, but I also feel like Jason Schmidt could have chemistry with a brick wall -- seems like he is the reason the brothers all mesh so well together

when they all look up at the train sound -- ahhh

Now for the song -- WHOA

okay so I was obsessed with the song when it came out, but after listening to it many many times I got kind of less excited about it. HOWEVER. Seeing and hearing great expectations live was an out-of-body experience. The harmonies! The high notes! The fact that Two-Bit and Ace look like they're floating. I truly can't put into words how beautiful that scene is.

the scene with Dally and Johnny made me cry, a little, but that's not hard to do lol

feel like this is poor theatre etiquette because I am like 99 percent sure you are not supposed to laugh when Johnny's like "I think he might kill her" but people were laughing and I was like seriously?!

the amazing chemistry between josh boone dally and josh strobl johnny. never seen sky but I hear his and josh boones chemistry is fantastic as well. josh strobl feels so ethereal as johnny. don't know if I'm explaining it right, but his voice is so sweet, he really feels like a kid.

the way Johnny physically pushed Dally away from going into his house, curling into himself afterwards, and how sad Dally looks after that

Friday at the Drive-In

I love emma pittman. i will probably say this several times. her stage presence is remarkable.

choreography was stellar as always

two-bit and steve seemed like on visibly hostile terms with Paul. like paul kept whispering to the other soc boys and looking back at two-bit and steve, and they kept being like Paul! paaaauuul! it was very entertaining

love the dynamic of the Soc girls. Cherry is so joyful, Marcia just looks happy to be there, and Bev is there with her happy snappy smile while she's looking at all the greasers like they're dirt

Ngl i'm kinda bored of writing thoughts for every song and I've been working on this post for a month lol so I'm just gonna give basic thoughts

two-bit's scream in justice for tulsa absolutely broke me. every time I think about it -- same effect.

at the second great expectations bit in far away from tulsa I started crying, it was so beautiful and I knew it was coming but like! the power in those voices!

Little Brother is probably my favorite scene in the entire show. josh boone's grief as dally is SO palpable -- and the background vocals also made me cry.

In the scene before stay gold soda genuinely looked like he was having a panic attack and darry and pony both looked so scared

I did not know how much I needed josh strobl singing stay gold

in the cast album I can't hear it as well, but live I heard the gorgeous harmony by daryl and brody for "everybody loves to judge us" and I may be wrong but daryls part of the harmony sounds almost exactly like the tune for "they say there's strength in numbers" in great expectations. do with that as you will

SO yeah the show defied my expectations, it was brilliant, I was in tears by the end, but we left our seats as soon as it ended because we were in the mezzanine and I wanted to get a spot at the stagedoor. The cast were so kind and genuinely gracious and excited to talk to the people at the stagedoor (including me). I wish I had said more but I was kind of starstruck -- I gave the cast the bracelets that I had made. The people that came out that night were kevin William paul, Kevin csolak (this was when he was still in the show!), melody , josh strobl, sarahgrace, emma , brent comer, daryl tofa, milena and jason . their reactions to the bracelets were so sweet! Emma did a little dance with hers, lol, and you can see it for a split second on one of her vlogs which was so cool to see after the fact. kwp was so kind, he complimented my magen david necklace and I believe I melted. Daryl was there but I missed him -- sg was signing my playbill and I was talking to her so he moved on the the next person and kept going -- which makes sense! I was so glad to see him though and he seemed really happy. I gave the rest of the bracelets I made to emma who said she would give them to the cast members who didn't come out (thank you emma!).

BUT

The next day, my grandmother and I won the suffs lottery and got to go see that show (which I'll post about later) and I got out to stagedoor there while the outsiders stagedoor was in full swing across the street. people were SCREAMING. The suffs cast had some guests come in so they didn't come out so early on, so I was like, why don't I cross the street, see if I can thank/express my awe to some cast members I didn't get to meet last night while I wait for the suffs cast to come outsara. AND I DID! I got to meet josh boone, who I extolled my highest praise to (I was probably babbling lol) and he was SO KIND, and I met daryl tofa and we had a fun conversation about friendship bracelets and took a picture which was amazing. Fully did not expect that that was going to happen that night.

Long story short the outsiders is amazing and definitely one of my favorite musicals ever with such a sweet and talented cast. go see it if you can!

it was pretty quiet and not too crowded (still kinda crowded, but it didn’t feel as insane as I’ve seen in pictures) i left during bows and got barricade. The girl next to me was saying how bad she felt to leave during bows and I was like “ahhh same!” oh my god and I was shaking so bad… my character shoes are partly to blame but like my legs were going crazy!

my cousin got videos of a lot of my interactions but I’m way too scared to rewatch them so im gonna go off of memory!

first Brent came out, and I was right at the door so when he walked out he looked at me and said “Marcia!” Then continued on to sign other people’s playbills before he came back around to me.

RJ came out but I can’t remember for the life of me what I said to him

i got to meet Dre and I told him how glad I was that I got to see him (cuz he’s only in the show for a month) and he was so sweet

kwp lowkey looked so brain dead during stagedoor and I do not blame him 😭 but we got a photo together and he put his arm around me and I think i passed away

Josh strobl came out (not to sign, he wasn’t in the show that day lol) and I just watched him walk away and was fangirling so hard tbh

melody came out and complimented my costume! I told her I’d cried off all my makeup and she said she would have done the same, then told me that sg would be coming out soon (which was a lie)

Emma came out and was THE SWEETEST EVER!!! She took her time with all of the fans, and with one of them she commented on how quiet it was and the fan jokingly asked if they should all be louder and she was like “yeah we should all hum our favorite songs” and it was sooo funny. when she turned to me she was like “right… and you ate” and kept on complimenting my costume which KILLED ME she was so nice… I told her my friend had made it and she was like “well tell the friend that it’s amazing!” And i gave her the letter I wrote to her (which she was again so sweet about) and when I asked her for a photo she was like “well Marcia and Cherry are best friends!”

then Trevi came out and I told him how glad I was that I got to see his ponyboy and he was really sweet

Anyways I love this cast so much and it was just an incredible experience!

Are all the actors who play Darry and soda taller than the Ponyboy actors? Wondering whether they’ll be casting the show in the future with height range requirements

the only one who's a lot taller is brent!

dan, brody, victor, & jason are all relatively close in height. trevor is short and josh is even shorter LOL i kinda love that when josh is on as pony, he visually looks a lot younger than everyone else because of his height.

not sure if that's something they look for, but i'm sure it's kept in mind
