Title: late night studying
Genre: idrk what to officially classify this as, but i’ll just say… domestic?? (plz don’t judge me 😭)
Warnings: no warnings!
Paring: jotaro kujo x ashley ashton-kujo
Summary: jotaro is studying and doing some school work late at night when one of his and ash’s young daughters pays him a visit.
Extra Note(s): this was super fun to write! this oneshot was an older one that i made, but it was still really enjoyable to write! i’m a sucker for domestic fanfics 😊 also, sorry if this is shorter than usual.
{~~~}
THE ONLY LIGHT THAT ILLUMINATED THE LIVING ROOM WAS THE LIGHT OF THE TV. Little three year old Jocelyn shifted against her mother, who had fallen asleep during the movie. That night Ashley and her daughter Jocelyn had decided to have some mother-daughter bonding time. They had decided to watch a magical girl anime series that Jocelyn was marvelling over while Jotaro was working on his school work for his study of marine biology. Jocelyn’s twin sister Josephina had slept over at her grandma Holy's house that night, while Ashley and Jotaro’s youngest child, a 1 year old daughter named Joy, was fast asleep in her crib. Jolyne was also fast asleep in her room.
Ash and Jocelyn had been covered up in two fuzzy and heavy blankets, cuddling together during the majority of the magical girl anime. Heat overcame Jocelyn as she threw the fuzzy blanket off of her. Ashley, her mother, stirred in her sleep.
“Jocelyn…” Ashley mumbled sleepily, barely opening her dark violet orbs, “what are you doing…?” Ash yawned softly, covering herself up in the blanket.
“I can’t sleep, momma.” The three year old stated, “It’s too hot. Is dada awake?” Jocelyn asked.
Ash yawned once again. “I… maybe…” Ash trailed off as she laid her head on the navy colored pillow beside her. She stretched her legs across the couch, laying on her side.
Jocelyn turned away, leaving her mother to sleep in the living room with the tv on. Jocelyn left the living room in search of her father, Jotaro. The little ravenette peered into the master bedroom, but she didn’t see her dad. She even looked in her shared bedroom with her twin sister Josephina, her younger sister Jolyne’s bedroom, and her 1 year old sister Joy’s nursery, but Jotaro was nowhere to be found. Walking across the hall, Jocelyn then peered into her father’s work room.
She saw Jotaro sitting at his desk, writing notes on a sheet of paper as he read one of the books he was assigned to read. The only light that was present in the room was the lamp light that illuminated a yellow shine around Jotaro and his work.
Jocelyn entered the room quietly. Even though Jotaro didn’t look up from his work, he could tell that his small little girl was soundlessly making her way to his side. The raven haired male set down his pen after writing down one last sentence, only to turn his head towards his little girl.
“Why are you still up, Jocelyn?” Jotaro huffed as he rubbed his ocean blue eyes. His blue orbs were heavy with sleeplessness, and his wrist was cramping from how much writing he had been doing.
Jocelyn averted her eyes from her father. “I… I can’t sleep.” The little girl said smally.
“I thought you were in the living room with your mom?”
“The blankies got too hot.” Jocelyn responded. She then outstretched her arms towards her father, wanting him to pick her up. “Up! Up!”
“Yare yare.” Jotaro sighed as he lifted his daughter into his lap. Jocelyn laid her ravenette head onto Jotaro’s chest. Jocelyn had a content smile on her face as she wrapped her legs around his waist, with her arms secure around his neck.
“I love you, daddy…” Jocelyn mumbled tiredly as she yawned. The little girl relaxed her body and let her mind go blank as her breathing steadied to the beating of her father’s heart.
Even though Jotaro didn’t show it, he felt the love his little girl had for him warm his heart. Jotaro leaned back in his chair as he tilted his hat to where it masked his eyes. The ravenette male smiled softly at his daughter, who was fast asleep against his chest.
(~~~)
Ash suddenly awoken by a loud noise on the tv show she had fallen asleep to. The brunette woman sat up, pushing the thick blanket off of her ivory body. She observed her living room, seeing as her older daughter Jocelyn was nowhere to be found. The brunette rubbed her silvery eyes as she stood up from the couch. She looked at the clock that was on the hallway wall. 6:00 am, it read.
Ashley sighed. She walked into Jotaro’s office, expecting to have to tell him to go to sleep. Instead, the brunette woman saw her husband and their daughter fast asleep in Jotaro’s arms.
Ash went over to her lover and their daughter, kissing Jocelyn on the forehead and kissing Jotaro on the temple. She smiled contently at the heartwarming sight.

Also, since this oc of mine is a part of bloodline, I will do an information post on the Ashton Family bloodline at some point in the future. BACKSTORY;
Ashley Remilia Ashton-Kujo is from the Ashton family bloodline, a bloodline in who is an ally to the Joestars and has been since Jonathan Joestar’s time.
Born and raised in Japan, Ashley Ashton lived with her single mother, Annelise Ashton. Her father, Eron, never wanted anything to do with Ash, despite having been in a relationship with Annelise for a ten years prior to Ashley being born. Ash’s father was secretly unfaithful to Annelise (which resulted in Ash’s older half-sister Carrie). Annelise had (reluctantly) forgiven Eron (as she forgave, but she never forgot), but when Ash came along and Eron officially left the family, Annelise and Ash knew that Eron just didn’t want the responsibility of a child.
Despite not having her dad around, Ash grew up with her mother just fine without a father figure. Ash’s mother is childhood friends with Holy Joestar, so it wasn’t shocking that Ash and Jotaro became childhood friends as well. Along with Jotaro, Ashley became friends with an American transfer student named Joanna. Joanna moved to Japan because of her dad’s job, and since her mother had to stay in America, Joanna went to Japan with her father. Joanna, Ashley, and Jotaro are the same age, as Ash and Jotaro were five years old when they met Joanna. Ashley is also really close to her cousin Anika. Anika was born three years before Ash, and the girls were inseparable. Because of the age gap between the two of them, Ash always looked up to Anika as an older sister she never had.
At age 12, Ash and Jotaro’s best friend, Joanna, passed away abruptly. Joanna and her father were on their way to a family event when they had gotten into a horrible car crash. Joanna and her father were immediately rushed to hospital for treatment. Joanna’s father managed to make an eventual recovery, but 12 year old Joanna herself was left in a coma. Ash and Jotaro visited their best friend ever day since she went under a coma, and they didn’t leave Joanna’s side at all. Sadly, after a week of being under a coma, Joanna had been pronounced brain dead, and she was taken off of life support. It was a definite struggle for both Jotaro and Ash. Ash became more reserved and more withdrawn. For a long while, years after Joanna’s death, Ash struggled with her mental health. She struggled with depression and anxiety, and she was really struggling. It also didn’t help that had been secretly dealing with bullying. Ash was bullied during her elementary school years, as well her 6th grade year.
Years went by with Ash still struggling with her mental health. Ash, who is a stand user (her stand is called Paramore), decided to aid Jotaro and the others on the trip to Egypt. During the trip to Egypt, Ash and Jotaro’s friendship augmented into something more, and they started a relationship. In August of 1990, at age 20, Jotaro and Ash welcomed their twin daughters. They decided to name one of them Josephina, after Joseph, and the other twin Jocelyn-Joanna, after their best friend Joanna. In 1992, the two had their third daughter Jolyne, and six months later on July 27th, 1992, Ashley Ashton and Jotaro Kujo married. In March of 1993, Ash and Jotaro had their fourth child. A daughter, named Joy Kujo. Ash and Jotaro both went to Morioh in 1999, with Jotaro later getting his doctorate in marine biology and Ashley getting a doctorate in psychology. Ash usually stayed with their daughters, but on some occasions she’ll travel with her husband Jotaro (like when they went to Morioh). Currently, Ashley and Jotaro lives in Florida with their family, as their jobs had taken them to the state (and Ash had extended family in Florida).

<~~~>
While on their trip to Egypt to defeat DIO, Ashley would hold Iggy in her arms or let him lay on her lap. Ash just adores Iggy 🥰 She is an animal lover.
Ashley smokes as well. Since Jotaro and Ashley both smoke, they’ll offer each other cigarettes. Although when their twins are born, both of them ease off of the smoking and don’t quite smoke as much. Jotaro smokes more than Ash used to, but they still don’t smoke like when they were teens.
When she’s older, around 17 years old, Josephina starts smoking like her parents did when they were her age.
(⚠️mentions of mental illnesses!⚠️) Ashley suffers from Schizoaffective Disorder Depressive Type, PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Joy, Ash and Jotaro’s youngest daughter, struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Jocelyn, the eldest along with her twin sister Josephina, struggles with depression.
All of the members of the Kujo family have Stands! Of course, Jotaro has Star Platinum and Ashley has her Stand called Paramore. Josephina has her Stand named Halestorm, Jocelyn has Evanescence, Jolyne has Stone Free, and Joy has Fit For Rivals.
(⚠️mentions of alcohol!⚠️) When Ashley’s drunk; when Ash is drunk, she’s very clumsy and very flirtatious. She can get somewhat touchy, but she’s mostly flirty. If she’s not flirty, then she’s really freaking spaced out. But it’s very rare for Ash to get completely wasted, as she is very good at taking her alcohol.
Josephina and Jolyne are definitely the chaotic ones out of the Kujo sisters. They’re even more chaotic when they’re together. And they are always together.
Jocelyn has a very calm demeanor, and she’s not very emotionally expressive. Although she is very hard to read, much like her father Jotaro, everyone knows when Jocelyn is mad. She just gets this pissed expression on her face and this enraged look in her ocean eyes… I guess flaming pissed is just one emotion that Jocelyn can’t conceal.
Jocelyn is definitely the most protective of the Kujo siblings. Joce is really protective of Joy, the youngest Kujo sister, but she is definitely protective of her twin Josephina and her younger sister Jolyne. The next protective sister would be Josephina, as her temper can set her off easier than Jolyne’s.
While she gets along really well with everyone in the Stardust Crusaders team, Ashley and Polnareff are like best friends. Polnareff really likes Ash as a friend, and to him Ash reminds him of his younger sister Sherry.
Josephina’s personality; this girl has a temper. Do not anger Josephina— it will not end well for you. Jo is the rebel out of her siblings. She doesn’t have a filter, and she’s rather blunt. Josephina doesn’t beat around the bush at all, she’s honest and will tell it how it is. She can get quite emotional relatively quickly, and she has a confrontational approach when it comes to conflicts. She also tends to hold grudges if someone wrongs her, and if you break her trust you may not get it back. Josephina is protective of her siblings and is often perceived as intimidating to others. On the inside, Josephina really does care about her loved ones, even if she does have trouble showing it. This girl is so intelligent and smart! Jo has her lazy spells, but she easily gains her motivation back. Josephina has a mischievous and playful side, as well a fierce yet laid back demeanor. In a battle, Jo is ruthless and doesn’t hold back. She’s headstrong and stubborn, but with a loving, loyal, and caring side underneath.
Josephina’s appearance; her average height is 5ft 11in. She has thin, wavy raven colored hair that goes down to her bra-line. Her skin tone is fair, and her eye color is violet, like Ashley’s, her mother. Josephina’s body build is slim, and she wears lavender purple lipstick.
Jocelyn’s personality; Jocelyn isn’t emotionally expressive. Very much like her father, she tends to come off as stoic. She seems cold towards others, and she rarely talks. Jocelyn doesn’t let her emotions surface. Jocelyn tends to be the straight-man in certain situations. Jocelyn is an introvert and reserved. Despite how stoic she may seem, the one emotion Joce can’t seem to conceal is anger and annoyance. If you’ve made Jocelyn mad or irritated, she won’t hide it and you will know if she’s upset with you in some way. Jocelyn is headstrong and powerful, snippy and sarcastic, and she’s a woman of few words. Jocelyn can be grouchy when annoyed, and she’ll shut down when she’s angry for whatever reason. Jocelyn tends to be serious, and she doesn’t take any shit from absolutely no one.
Jocelyn’s appearance; Joce has thin raven colored straight hair like her father Jotaro that goes down to just above her tailbone. She has fair skin, and she has Ash’s violet eyes. Her height is 6ft 0in, and she has an athletic body type. Jocelyn wears wine red lipstick.
Jolyne’s personality; Brusque and snappy with her elders, and someone who doesn’t take shit from anyone. Jolyne in her teenage years was considered a delinquent because of her behavior. Even though her older sister Josephina has more of a temper, Jolyne also has a bit of a temper, which has led to her being impulsive in some situations. Jolyne can be competitive, as well as her older sister Josephina. Jolyne is also blunt and she’s sassy. Jolyne can have a vindictive side to her, not holding back if anyone wrongs her or her family. Like Josephina, Jolyne really does care for her loved ones— she just has her own way of showing it.
Jolyne’s appearance; She wears her hair in two layers (i guess that’s how you can describe that). She has raven hair including two large buns atop her head and a short length going down her neck; above which, lightly dyed a lime green color or bleached, and Jolyne keeps a plait or braid that winds around both buns, joining in a short length at back, and Jolyne also has bangs. She’s 5ft 8in in height. Her build is athletic and slim, and she wears lime green lipstick.
Joy’s personality; Joy is so creative. She’s patient and shy, as well as understanding— traits she inherited from her mother Ashley. Joy is very kindhearted and she’s also quiet. She tends to bottle up her emotions, and she isn’t very good at keeping up a front. Joy is devoted, loving, and adaptable, as well as quiet, highly instinctive, intuitive, and joyful. Joy is easygoing and imaginative, easily flustered, accepting, and selfless. Since Joy is determined and committed, she can sometimes take it a little too far and end up overworking herself. Understanding, generous, and sympathetic, Kujo Joy is a girl with a warm heart and a creative mind.
Joy’s appearance; Joy is 5ft 9in in height, and her skin tone is fair with an athletic build. Joy has aquamarine eye like her father Jotaro, and she has natural chestnut brown hair. Her hair type is thin and her hair length is slightly past Joy’s shoulders. Joy wears light pink lipstick.
Josephina and Jolyne get really competitive whenever they play video games together
Jo and Jolyne really like playing Mortal Kombat and other fighting games
“I’m gonna kick your ass, Jo!”
“Ha! We’ll see about that, Jolyne!”
The Kujo sisters wear lipstick and dye their hair in their favorite color. Joy’s color is light pink, Jolyne has lime green, Josephina’s color is lavender purple, and Jocelyn has wine red as her main color.
The only ones who can call Jolyne ‘JoJo’ are Ashley, her mother, and Josephina, her older sister.
Josephina mainly goes by her nickname ‘Jo’. Jocelyn goes by her nickname ‘Joce’ regularly.
Jocelyn is bisexual, and her twin sister Josephina is a lesbian panromantic. Personally, I see Jolyne as bisexual, but with a lean or preference for women. Joy is pansexual.
(⚠️Mentions of PTSD!⚠️) Ash and Jotaro both suffer from ptsd. There is no way that they came out of the trip to Egypt unscathed. They were 17 years old— those events happened when they were still kids. Both still suffer with nightmares pertaining to DIO, Ash will have moments where she’s reminded of when Kakyoin didn’t survive, Jotaro will be reminded of when he saw his own grandfather die in front of him— these two have been through hell and back at such a young age.
Despite everything they’ve been through, Ash and Jotaro support and comfort each other when they’re having a difficult time. Ash and Jotaro went through these experiences together, so no one knows how they feel more than… well, them.
Ash is a really good cook! Like, a damn good cook. Ash will surprise Jotaro with some recreations of his mom’s recipes
Jotaro loves that shit

Title: Time Flies By
Genre: slight angst
Warnings: no warnings! :)
Paring: Jotaro Kujo x Ashley Ashton-Kujo
Summary: After 10 years of being in a coma, Noriyaki Kakyoin finally wakes up from his coma. His parents are by his side, along with two of his good friends from the Crusaders— Kujo Jotaro and Ashley Ashton. Finally, after a long time, the three friends reunite. Jotaro and Ashley invite Kakyoin to go to a cafe with them to properly catch up. In doing so, Kakyoin realizes just how much time has flown by.
Extra Note(s): Basically, this is if Kakyoin had survived part 3 and was in a coma for ten years (so a little after the events of part 4.) bruh, I fricking miss Kak y’all 😤😤
<~~~>
THERE COULDN’T HAVE BEEN A BETTER WAY TO DESCRIBE WHAT ASH WAS FEELING. Excited, relieved, happy— so many emotions flooded over the brunette woman. The same could be said for her husband Jotaro. When he heard the news that his friend Kakyoin had finally awoke from his ten year coma, him and his wife Ashley immediately rushed down to the hospital he was at to visit him.
When the married couple had gotten to the hospital and made their way to Kakyoin’s room, they saw the red haired male’s parents at his bedside. Kakyoin was sat up in his hospital bed as he talked to his mother. Ash recalled Kakyoin’s cherry red hair being much longer, and he had less muscle due to him being in a coma for so long. Kakyoin looked weak and exhausted— he was in such a state that Ashley swore she almost burst into hysterics.
It was extremely difficult for Ashley and Jotaro to see their friend in this situation. It pained both of their hearts to witness their dear friend in such a disheveled state, a state that absolutely no one should see their loved one in. Jotaro remembered the night he and his wife Ashley got back to their hotel in Morioh, where he and Ash had a moment together. The married couple embraced each other, with Ash hugging Jotaro by the waist, while Jotaro did the same to her. Ashley just laid her head against Jotaro’s sturdy chest as Jotaro stroked her chestnut brown hair gently, Ash letting the tears fall from her violet orbs.
Eventually, Kakyoin managed to heal up quickly, and soon enough he was discharged from the hospital. Though it was extremely difficult and challenging for the lovers to witness their good friend in such a heartbreaking state, Jotaro and Ashley were just immensely proud of the progress that Kakyoin has made. Currently, Ash and Jotaro were at a cafe with Kakyoin. The two of them had so much to catch Kakyoin up on, as there were many things that the cherry red haired male had unfortunately missed out on.
Now, Kakyoin looked to be at a healthy weight. He definitely seemed to be in a better mood than earlier when he first woke up from his ten year coma. Kakyoin’s once mangled red hair was now brushed and styled into a long braid. He wore his signature color, an earthy green that brought out his deep violet orbs, in the form of a long sleeve collar shirt. He wore beige jean pants to match his outfit, and, of course, Kakyoin wore his signature cherry dangly earrings.
Ash sipped her blackberry mint tea from her cup, a refreshing taste lingering in her mouth. She sighed, a smile gracing her features.
“What have you and Ashley been up to over the years, Jotaro?” Kakyoin asked before taking a drink of his chamomile tea.
Jotaro set his cup of earl grey tea down on the table. “Well,” Jotaro started, slightly sitting back in his seat, “Ash and I have been pretty busy with our work and schooling.”
Kakyoin raised a brow in interest. “Oh, really? What are you two studying?” The male asked with curiosity lacing his voice.
“I recently got a doctorate in marine biology.” Jotaro responded.
“I’ve been working towards my doctorate in psychology. I just have one more thesis to write, and I should be good.” Ash spoke before taking another sip of her tea, crossing her thin leg on top of the other.
“What route are you taking in psychology?” Kakyoin questioned.
“I want to be a traveling psychologist. That’s my ultimate goal.” The brunette woman replied. “Jotaro’s job also causes him to travel. It’s a downside to our jobs because it’s hard for the kids to be away from us for a long duration, or for them to keep moving around.”
Kakyoin’s violet hues widened with a grin. “Kids? I’m assuming you two finally tied the knot?”
Ashley and Jotaro smiled a small smile. “Yes, we did.” Ash let out a giggle, as mentioning her beloved family made her lighthearted and giddy. Ash and Jotaro interlocked their hands, showing their gold wedding rings on their ring fingers. “We married on July 27th in 1992, a few months after having our third daughter Jolyne.”
“About a year and a half before we got married, we had twins named Josephina and Jocelyn-Joanna in August of 1991.” Jotaro spoke up, adding onto what his wife was saying. “In March of 1993, shortly after our wedding, we had our fourth daughter named Joy.”
“Wow… congratulations on your family, you guys.” Kakyoin said, “That’s definitely exciting.”
“Thanks… we may be away a lot, but when we are with our daughters, we always spend all the time we can with them.” Ash commented, taking another sip of her blackberry mint tea.
Kakyoin held his cup in his hand, staring at it absentmindedly. “I remember back on the trip to Egypt,” Kakyoin started slowly, “it was so obvious that you two liked each other. I remember Polnareff teased you both about your crush on each other.”
Ashley giggled, while Jotaro smiled. Kakyoin smiled a little, as well. “Polnareff teased me more than he did Jotaro!” Ashley said, her smile growing into a huge grin on her face.
“If I remember correctly, babe, your face would always be as cherry red as Kakyoin’s hair after Polnareff teased you.” Jotaro said nonchalantly as he sipped his earl grey tea.
Ashley’s face immediately flushed cherry red. The 28 year old woman huffed as she crossed her arms across her chest. “I did not get that flustered!” Ash protested. Despite her protesting, Ashley knew that she couldn’t keep her grin from growing just ever so slightly. “You got flustered, too!”
“On some occasions. I was better at hiding it than you were.” Jotaro pointed out, “You would always get flustered whenever Polnareff even mentioned the thought of us dating.”
Ashley sighed, uncrossing her arms. “You still blushed…” Ash mumbled.
Kakyoin laughed at the couple, finding Ash’s protesting to the obvious truth pretty amusing. Kakyoin sighed. “Speaking of him, how is Polnareff?” The red haired male inquired about his good friend.
“Polnareff has been in France this entire time. We haven’t physically seen him since me and Ashley’s wedding.” Jotaro answered, “Before our wedding, we hadn’t seen him since we went our separate ways at the end of our trip to Egypt.”
“We have talked to him every once in a while over the phone, and from the sound of it, Polnareff seems to be doing pretty good nowadays.” Ash added to Jotaro’s statements. “It would be hard for us to physically meet up and see each other anyways because he lives in France and me, Jotaro, and the girls live in the USA now.”
“Really? The USA?” Kakyoin raised the question. “What part of the USA? Also, why the USA?”
“Our jobs took us to the USA, specifically Florida. Since our jobs were taking us and our kids to the United States, we decided to settle down in Florida because I have family members there. That way, we’re close to our jobs and our extended family.” Ash explained, taking the last drink of her blackberry mint tea. “Despite it being an extremely difficult and huge move from Japan, I’d say it worked out pretty well. Wouldn’t you agree, honey?”
“Yeah, it wasn’t too bad…” Jotaro responded, “Except for the part where Joy got sick and threw up in my lap.”
“Oh, right… that wasn’t very pleasant…” Ash trailed off for a very brief moment, “...but we know how she has a weak stomach. Poor girl…”
As Ash mentioned another thing to her husband, Kakyoin couldn’t help but get so lost in his thoughts. The fact that ten years had just gone by was astounding to him. Ten years Kakyoin has had his eyes closed. Ten years he has missed out on. Ten years he will never get back. One moment, Ashley and Jotaro were teenagers who had just begun their relationship, and then Kakyoin opens his eyes and suddenly it’s ten years in the future and Jotaro and Ashley are happily married with four daughters. The realization of just how much time he’s lost, his reality, is setting in for Kakyoin.
Jotaro noticed the somber expression in his good friend’s demeanor. Ash wasn’t oblivious to Kakyoin’s solemn change of mood. “Kakyoin?” Jotaro started, “Are you okay?”
Kakyoin snapped back into reality, no longer lost in his thoughts. He blinked a couple of times, blinking back the tears that didn’t have time to flow. “Time flies by… doesn’t it?” Kakyoin pondered for a moment, his once bright smile now saddened.
Ash looked to Jotaro with concern written in her expression, with Jotaro replicating his wife’s worry.
“Everyone else’s lives have moved forward, while I’m still stuck with the fact that ten years of my life is just… gone! Ten years!” Kakyoin gripped his tea cup. Jotaro gently reached over and had Kakyoin set down the shaking tea cup. “That’s ten years that I’ll never, ever get back! That’s ten years that is completely lost… forever…”
Ash and Jotaro saw Kakyoin’s tears gloss over his violet eyes. Still, Kakyoin didn’t let the tears fall.
“Kakyoin… I’ll say this…” Ashley started seriously, almost tearing up as well at her distressed friend. “...none of us, not a single one of us on that trip, came out unscathed. We came out with not only physical scars, but with unseeable scars that have a long-lasting impact on us. The trip to Egypt, the experiences with DIO— they’ll forever have an impact on us for the rest of our lives! Hell, it’s been ten years since then and I still have nightmares about that motherfucker!”
Ashley continued to monologue, never breaking eye contact with her friend. “There’s one thing that we’ve done throughout this duration of time. We’ve persevered. We’ve stayed close to each other, we’ve stayed strong throughout the aftermath. If we can do it, you can sure as hell do it, too, Kakyoin.” Ash offered a kind smile towards Kakyoin, which he gratefully returned.
Even if Ashley didn’t realize it, she had always had a way with words. Both Jotaro and Kakyoin knew that. Ash’s words were encouraging to Kakyoin, and at the impact of her words, Jotaro smiled. Ashley’s monologue meant so much to Kakyoin— it gave him hope.
“We’re here to support you, get you back up on your feet. Jotaro and I want to help.” Ashley said softly.
Kakyoin smiled gratefully, an expression of appreciation shining in his violet orbs. “Thank you, guys. Really, I wouldn’t know what to do without you two.”
Jotaro nodded. “Of course, Kakyoin.”
Ash nodded as well, humming in response.
Kakyoin knew that even if ten years had gone by while he was in a coma, even if he had missed out on so many occasions over the decade… one thing he knew was he’d always have the support from his friends.

Title: “I Can’t Sleep.”
Genre: angst
Warnings: mentions of death and loss
Paring: no paring, although it is indicating ashley x jotaro
Summary: After recently losing her grandmother, Jolyne finds it hard to move on. She can’t let go of the past. It’s difficult accept the sudden loss of her grandmother. Late at night, Jolyne’s mother Ashley goes to check on her daughter in the middle of the night, in which a conversation ensues.
Extra Note(s): I wrote this while struggling with the loss of my grandmothers. It’s been a pretty hard couple of months, especially since I’ve lost two grandmothers within only months of each other. So here’s this angst filled oneshot! Also, I haven’t really read Stone Ocean— I’ve only read the first two volumes, so I’m still trying to get Jolyne’s character down. With that said, I apologize if Jolyne is OOC. It’s not my intention, and I hope I do a good first attempt at Jolyne’s personality. Also, please don’t bottle up your emotions, as that is incredibly unhealthy for you! Talk to someone you trust, journal about it, etc. Practice healthy coping mechanisms!
{~~~}
IT WAS CHALLENGING FOR Jolyne to get some sleep. Every time the seventeen year old girl would lay down and close her aquamarine orbs, Jolyne would find herself instantly sitting back up in her bed. She grumbled to herself in frustration. Jolyne couldn’t sleep, she couldn’t eat or drink. Jolyne wasn’t doing okay— she herself knew that.
So here Jolyne was, laying in her bed in her pitch black room with the box fan on high. Even though Jolyne tried to focus on the sound of the box fan, the ravenette’s thoughts were way too loud in her head. No matter how hard the seventeen year old female tried to shut out or distract herself from her plagued thoughts and poisoned feelings, the efforts of the young woman were futile.
Jolyne didn’t want to be trapped in her mind. She didn’t want to feel like she was drowning in her emotions, or like she was suffocating, constantly gasping for air. That’s how she felt ever since her grandma Annelise had been re-diagnosed with brain cancer. After a week of Annelise being in hospice, Ashley had let her daughters, as well as other family members, know that Annelise had passed away. Jolyne recalled the night she was woken up by her mother crying her eyes out, talking on the phone to her husband Jotaro at three in the morning to inform him. Ash then called her cousin Anika and her daughter Audrey, and they very shortly headed over to the Kujo household for their family members.
The last few weeks had been a blur for Jolyne. At one moment she, her mother Ashley, her father Jotaro, and her sisters Josephina, Jocelyn, and Joy were laughing and sharing funny stories with Annelise. Then in the next moment, Annelise Ashton was on her deathbed. With how fast the tragedy happened, it was no wonder that Jolyne couldn’t sleep.
The sound of her bedroom door opening snapped Jolyne out of her toxic thoughts. She darted her aquamarine orbs over towards her bedroom door, only to see her mother Ashley standing in her doorway.
“Mom…” Jolyne sat up in bed, tearing the covers from her body and sitting criss cross applesauce. She saw her mother with her medium length chestnut brown hair in a messy bun. The hairstyle was a rare, but fitting style for her mother to adorn— Jolyne had always thought that Ash wearing her hair up in a bun was suiting for her. Because of her daughter’s compliments on her hairstyle, Ash started wearing her hair in a bun just a little more over the years for Jolyne. Ash was in a grey sweater and black pj bottoms, crossing her arms across her chest with a raised brow, leaning on the frame of her daughter’s bedroom doorway.
“Jolyne… you’re still awake.” Ash started softly.
Jolyne can hear the tiredness in her mother’s voice. “Y-Yeah… I’m just having trouble sleeping… but I’m feeling tired now, so…” Jolyne didn’t quite know what to say, so she said what she always said whenever her parents checked on her during the night.
Ash sighed, going over to her daughter and sitting on her bed. “Honey, it’s 4:00 in the morning. You should be asleep by now.” Ash said softly. Jolyne could hear a pinch of concern and a sprinkle of sadness in her mother’s weary voice. The weariness came from more than just how late it was, Jolyne knew. “I-Is there something wrong? Is there something that’s keeping you up, or that’s on your mind?”
Jolyne had never been very good at conveying her emotions. Jolyne would try to avoid situations that had her speaking about her feelings as much as she could, finding an excuse to leave the room or quickly changing the topic of conversation. Jolyne also got defensive, depending on the severity of the topic. “I can’t sleep.” Is all Jolyne responded with, wanting her mother to leave her be.
Ashley hummed in response. She studied her daughter’s mannerisms. Ashley was one of the only people who truly knew her daughter— other than Jotaro and their other three daughters. “JoJo, honey,” The brunette woman started as she took her daughter’s hand in hers, looking her in the eyes with worry, “what’s really bothering you?”
Jolyne shrugged, averting her aquamarine orbs away from her mother’s grey ones. She didn’t even grasp her mother’s hand. “I just can’t sleep. That’s all.”
“You’ve said that all the other times your father or I have come in here, only to see you wide awake.”
“Mom, I can’t sleep, okay? There’s nothing to be worried about!” Jolyne insisted, a tad bit of defensiveness to her tone of voice.
“There seems to be something I should worry about.”
“There isn’t! I just happen to be up later than usual!”
Ash stayed quiet, as did Jolyne. Jolyne recognized that she was getting defensive and irritated, and she knew that her mother recognized her mood, too.
“Jolyne…” Ash whispered, perceiving that there was something that her daughter wasn’t speaking up about. “I know you better than anyone else. Our family knows you so well.”
“So?” Jolyne crossed her arms across her chest.
Ash retracted her hand away from her daughter. She had a downhearted but sharp expression to her face, her stormy grey hues sharing the same expression. “Your father, your sisters, even your grandmother Holy— we’ve all seen a change in you. I know it’s been an extremely challenging time for our family—”
“I don’t want to talk about it.” Jolyne practically growled out. Jolyne hardened her expression, and she grew more tense. At the mere mention or hint of her grandma Annelise, Jolyne wanted to cry. She just wished that she could be alone so she could finally release her tears, and she could finally be alone with her emotions. As much as that’s what she wanted to happen, Jolyne knew that the last thing she needed was to be alone in her turbulent thoughts.
Ash caught onto the sternness in Jolyne’s voice. So that’s what’s bothering her. Ashley thought, It’s the death of my mom that’s been troubling her… “JoJo, you need to speak up about these troubles! If you bottle up your emotions, it’s not going to be an easy way out.”
Jolyne grumbled in her mind. Throughout this whole conversation, Jolyne just found herself growing more and more agitated by the second. “Mom, I said I don’t—”
“Jolyne!” Ash snapped lightly, furrowing her brows. She sighed, exhaling. “Please, speak up. The fact that we don’t know what’s going on in your head— it’s scaring your father and I. Even your sisters have come to us worried for you.”
Jolyne stayed worryingly silent. It stayed silent for a few moments longer… until Jolyne just cracked. The ravenette teen started to cry, sobbing as she crashed into her mother’s arms. Ashley caught her daughter, scooting closer and wrapping her daughter in a hug, resting her chin on Jolyne’s shoulder. Ash let Jolyne cry on her shoulder. Ash knew that her daughter needed to let all of her convoluted emotions out. Ashley felt Jolyne embrace her tighter, and her tears just kept flowing.
Ash gently stroked Jolyne’s raven colored hair to comfort her. Ashley was going to say something to Jolyne, but Jolyne had already beat her to it.
“Momma… I miss Grandma Annie…” Jolyne said as she wiped away her released tears.
Ash teared up at the sensitive subject, as well as the sadness of her daughter. “I miss her, too, baby…” Ashley sighed shakily as she blinked out tears. “I miss my momma, too…”
After keeping the hug for another short moment, the mother and daughter broke the hug. Ash wiped a tear from her eye. Ash sighed, letting the silence linger just a little bit longer. “Thanks, mom.”
Ashley looked over to Jolyne. The brunette woman smiled softly. “Of course, JoJo. I’m being serious about speaking up about your feelings and thoughts. Our family— we’re going through an extremely difficult time right now.” Ashley explained.
Jolyne only nodded in response.
Ash kept her soft smile, leaning towards her and planting a kiss on Jolyne’s forehead. “I love you, Jolyne.” Ash said genuinely, standing up from her daughter’s bed and walking to her bedroom door.
“I love you, too, mom.” Jolyne said, pulling the covers over her body as she laid down in her bed.
“I’m gonna check on your sisters. Goodnight, sweetie.”
“Goodnight.” Jolyne spoke up. Ashley blew her daughter one last kiss before she exited Jolyne’s room, closing the door behind her.
Jolyne laid in her bed on her side. The ravenette teenager let out one last deep sigh before she closed her aquamarine orbs, steadied her breathing, and relaxed, finally escaping into the peaceful sleep that she deserves.
