You Ain’t Heard Radio Show Blog: The Rise of Morrissa Nicole in Voice Acting
The You Ain’t Heard Radio Show, hosted by Jay Brooks, celebrates stories of resilience, creativity, and success. This week, we’re spotlighting Morrissa Nicole, a voice acting sensation who’s making waves in the industry. From commercials for CBC News and Ford to voicing Lydia in Lyla and the Loop, Nicole is a talent to watch—and she’s only been in the game since the pandemic began.
A Journey Rooted in Passion
Morrissa Nicole’s path to voice acting is one of adaptability and dedication. Starting in musical theater as a teenager, she transitioned to film, TV, and eventually voice work. A national competition win opened doors for her in acting and music, allowing her to release her first EP and perform in productions like the North American tour of We Will Rock You.
When the pandemic shut down live performances, Nicole pivoted to voice acting. “I had a studio, I had the equipment, and I just wanted to stay in the vein of what I love to do,” she explained. After taking classes and signing with a voice acting agency, she landed her first role in Zokie of Planet Ruby.
The Freedom of Voice Acting
Nicole finds unique creative freedom in voice acting, where she can play a wide range of roles, experiment, and let her imagination run wild. “It’s just me and the script,” she shared. “I can be as silly or as big as I want.”
Her voice allows her to take on roles beyond her physical appearance, from older characters to younger ones, while maintaining authenticity and representation. “As a Black woman, I can speak to different Black experiences and ensure authenticity,” Nicole emphasized, noting the industry's increasing commitment to diversity.
Lessons in Perseverance and Growth
Morrissa Nicole’s success didn’t happen overnight. She credits her growth to training, networking, and persistence. “You invest in yourself and reap your reward,” she advised. For Nicole, voice acting classes were a game-changer, helping her hone her skills and build relationships with casting directors.
Even when she doesn’t book a role, Nicole has found that leaving a lasting impression on casting directors is invaluable. “It’s not just who you know, but who knows you,” she explained, sharing how word-of-mouth recommendations have led to more opportunities.
Advice for Aspiring Voice Actors
Nicole’s journey offers valuable insights for anyone looking to break into voice acting:
Invest in Training: Take classes with active casting directors to improve your skills and network.
Be Prepared: A good voice isn’t enough—success comes to those who are ready for opportunities.
Experiment and Explore: Use the voice booth’s privacy to take risks and find your unique style.
A Talent on the Rise
Morrissa Nicole’s rise in voice acting showcases the power of resilience and adaptability. Her story is an inspiration for aspiring artists looking to carve their paths in the entertainment industry.

The You Ain't Heard Radio Show hosted by Jay Brooks on WKMT-DB Dagr8FM / Triple One Marketing & Media recently highlighted the inspiring journey of Atlanta-based casting director Leslie M. Greene. Known for her remarkable resilience and creative vision, Greene's career serves as a beacon for aspiring industry professionals.
Leslie M. Greene began her journey with determination, overcoming multiple rejections while trying to break into the entertainment industry. Starting with marketing and PR, her passion for creativity led her to casting after a serendipitous opportunity with Stomp the Yard. “They told me I was the most organized extras casting director they’d ever had,” she shared, recounting how that project sparked her interest in casting.
Breaking New Ground in Animation
Last year, Greene ventured into animation for the first time, casting the Netflix remake of the classic 70s hit, Good Times. Transitioning from live-action to animation presented unique challenges. “You are impaired because you can’t see the person,” Greene explained. “I had to block out the words and listen to the tones, like music. It was amazing.”
Her work in animation taught her to appreciate the nuances of oratory skills and diction, pushing her creative boundaries further. Greene’s ability to adapt has allowed her to flourish, with multiple projects currently in production.
Lessons in Perseverance
Despite her success, Greene remains humble and attributes much of her journey to persistence and relationships. Early on, she faced a series of “thanks, but no thanks” from industry leaders but refused to let rejection deter her. Drawing strength from her upbringing, she channeled the advice of her grandmother: “Don’t worry about the no, just prove them wrong.”
This philosophy extends to her work with actors. Greene emphasizes the importance of delivering 100% in auditions, regardless of the outcome. “Rejection is part of the process,” she advises. “A good casting director will always remember you.”
A Champion for Black Filmmakers
While Greene’s career has naturally aligned with Black filmmakers, she views her work as a testament to the power of relationships in the casting world. Her collaborations with independent creators and institutions like the Savannah College of Art and Design have built a strong foundation for her career.
