Things This Week

Highlights from May 29th to June 4th 2017

This has been the official last week of the tv season this year and it is true that there are quite few shows we follow still airing. We watched The Leftovers and Veep on Monday. They were both so good but I still cannot believe there is only one episode of The Leftovers left and then that’s it. I’m not ready.

We finished The Americans and while it has not been their best season it is still top quality. We binge-watched House of Cards and, again, not their best season but Robin Wright is as fascinating as always and Patricia Clarkson was everything. We also kept watching American Crime’s second season which has very good performances and a somewhat shaky script. We closed Sunday with yet another brilliant episode of American Gods. Salim/Not Salim is one of my favorite characters already! Oh, we also had a Glee flashback, watching a few numbers on Youtube.

Regarding movies, I watched Bowling For Columbine and it is what I’ve come to expect from Michael Moore. I tend to agree with him but his way of making his point is so basic, manipulative and irritating.

For the Queer Challenge we watched Honoré’s Les chansons d’amour and it was very Demyesque, very good. After that our movie choices were eclectic to say the least. We watched Hong Sang Soo’s great Tale of Cinema on Monday as well. On Tuesday we saw The Myth of the American Sleepover (very good), Assaya’s Boarding Gate (masterpiece), Princesas (quite meh), The Gift (better than expected) and Twilight (now that Robsten are arthouse darlings).

On Wednesday we watched the incredibly good Nothing But a Man. Then on Saturday it was the delightful Crossing Delancey, the worse than expected Cat People and the what-were-we-expecting Scary Movie 4 and Scary Movie 5. Sunday was for Familystrip (wonderful), Mona Lisa, Un hombre llamado Flor de Otoño (both very good especially in their last moments) and the very nice Mujeres en el Parque.

Foodwise, we had Moscow Mules in the great Josealfredo with Miguel while we discussed the best monologues to get in a drama school. After that we had dinner at an underwhelming vegan asian buffet. The food was convincing enough, I could have been served the “pork” without realizing it was tofu but the choices were a bit limited.

On Friday, D treated me to L’Entrecote Café de Paris, taking advantage of the fact that they serve all day long and on sunday we had milkshakes at Mistura and a little McDo.

All in all, my life is way better than yours.
